    Best Book Boyfriends of 2015

I’ve had such an eclectic reading year that I don’t have nearly as many book boyfriends as I’ve had in the past. Many of the books I’ve read and loved didn’t even have romance as part of the storyline. And I also know that due to the number of books I have read and loved this year I am forgetting a few of them – so sorry my lovely fic boys! But I did not prep this post well in advance, as I’d hoped to, and so I am certain I’m forgetting some of my favorites.

I’m also losing a few due to the fact that they have to be from books read and released this year.

    Anyway… here they are.

Best Books I’ve Read in 2015

    Today’s topic is:

BEST BOOKS I’VE READ IN 2015

I’ve read so many seriously amazing books this year, that picking just ten was a dreadfully impossible task. I’m just glad I read THE STARS NEVER RISE by Rachel Vincent in 2014 or it would have made narrowing down my list that much more horrendous. It also didn’t help that I read more books this year than last, that I’ve been in an eclectic reading mood, and that there were just so many incredible books written.

#1 MENAGERIE by Rachel Vincent – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s unique, it’s hard-hitting, the writing is beautiful, the story is phenomenal, the series potential has me desperate for the next installment.

#2 DEAD OF WINTER by Kresley Cole – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because this series is an all-time favorite, because the ending is abso-freaking-lutely killer, because it’s dark and gorgeous and the waiting is exquisite torture.

#3 SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because the story is epic, the world-building incredible, the writing gorgeous, the detail impeccable.

#4 TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU by Claudia Gray – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because the writing is stunning, the world expansive and fascinating, the series riveting.

#5 BRUTAL YOUTH by Anthony Breznican – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s dark and gritty and edgy and shocking and disturbing, the writing brilliant, the story unforgettable.

#6 SCHISM by Jenna Black – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s complex and interesting and fascinating. The world is chilling and still amazing. The characters sympathetic and scary. The story compelling.

#7 AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s thrilling and epic and gripping and unputdownable. The dual POV makes it edge-of-your-seat exciting.

#8 THE ROSE SOCIETY by Marie Lu – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s so wicked and dark and wildly entertaining. It’s about villains. Nothing more needs to be said.

#9 ROOK by Sharon Cameron – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s action-packed, nerve-wracking, suspenseful. There are twists and turns. There’s romance, betrayal and heartbreak. What’s not to love?

#10 SALT & STONE by Victoria Scott – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s awesome and amazing and adorable and nail-biting. The characters are ones you can’t help but love, love, love. Though the possibility that there might not be a next book in the series is heartbreaking.

    Honorable Mentions

I really wanted to limit honorable mentions to just five, but I couldn’t do it. Limiting it to 15 was hard enough as it was.

So those are my favorite reads for 2015. What are yours?

    Series: Fire & Flood #2
Published by Scholastic Press on February 24, 2015
Genres: Dystopian, Epic Fantasy, Science Fiction
    Provided by: Edelweiss
    Rating: 6 stars

This book was provided in exchange for an honest review.

    DESCRIPTION

What would you do to save someone you love?

In Fire & Flood, Tella Holloway faced a dangerous trek through the jungle and across the desert, all to remain a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed for a chance at obtaining the Cure for her brother. She can’t quit–she has to win the race, save Cody, and then fight to make sure the race stops before it can claim any more lives. In the next legs of the race, across the ocean and over mountains, Tella will face frostbite, sharks, avalanche, and twisted new rules in the race.

But what if the danger is deeper than that? How do you know who to trust when everyone’s keeping secrets? What do you do when the person you’d relied on most suddenly isn’t there for support? How do you weigh one life against another?

The race is coming to an end, and Tella is running out of time, resources, and strength. At the start of the race there were one hundred twenty-two Contenders. As Tella and her remaining friends start the final part of the race, just forty-one are left–and only one can win.

    INTRODUCTION

SALT & STONE was released yesterday, so if you don’t have your copy in hand and haven’t yet read it, what are you waiting for? It was an awesome sequel. AWESOME. RIVETING. AMAZING.

But if you haven’t yet had the chance to pick it up, be sure to check out the Q&A to learn a little bit more about SALT & STONE and to see what Author Victoria Scott has to say about this sequel, the series, her characters. And if you’d like to know what I think, my review follows below that.

This one is an off-the-charts read. It’s sooooo good. You will not be able to put it down. There will also likely be tears. But I will say no more, except – READ THIS BOOK!

If you’re new to the series, there’s some information about the first book, FIRE & FLOOD, a bit further down, and there’s a chance to win a copy. Just enter in the Rafflecopter.

And if you’d like to know what other bloggers think about this sequel, the schedule is included at the bottom of this post. But now, without any further ado, here’s the interview.

    INTERVIEW

    Q&A WITH VICTORIA SCOTT

    Q. If you had to describe the Brimstone Bleed in 15 words or less, how would you describe it?

Contenders run a race to save a loved one with the help of an animal.

    Q. If you could pick one contender other than Tella or Guy who you think has the best shot of winning the Cure, who would it be and why?

Hmm, I’d say Harper because she’s tough, and has a lot of anger.

    Q. Which of the Pandoras is your favorite (and why)? And which of the Pandoras is your least favorite (and why)?

AK-7 (the grizzly bear) is my favorite because he’s been so mistreated, but remains a gentle giant. I don’t love RX-13 (the eagle). That bird may need to eat it soon.

    Q. Of all the eco-systems, which was your favorite to write about and why? And which eco-system would you least like to be a contender in and why?

Favorite was the jungle. So many possibilities to challenge my characters. Because of that, it’s also the one I’d least like to compete in.

    Q. Through each part of the race, Tella becomes a stronger and more independent competitor. Had you always planned for her to be able to stand on her own, become a leader, become less reliant on Guy Chambers?

That came after book one. She grew a lot in Fire & Flood, but I realized (and heard from fans!) that she had even more potential as a leader. That’s why I started Salt & Stone with, “I am stronger than I was before.” I felt that set the tone for the sequel.

    Q. Speaking of Guy – because we kind of have to – he manages to infuriate Tella even more in SALT & STONE. But he also manages to become more important to her – sorry, trying so hard not to reveal spoilers from that part there right at the end. What does he really think about her at the beginning of the book, and how do you think that opinion has changed by the story’s end?

Guy is tremendously drawn to Tella’s energy, but he also sees her as someone he needs to protect. It doesn’t make him think less of her, it’s simply that he sees himself as stronger, better trained, more capable. But Tella isn’t okay with his perception of her, and it’s one of the driving factors that causes her to push herself in the second book.

    Q. Guy seems to have pulled back from Tella at the start of SALT & STONE and yet the chemistry between them is still there making for some deliciously lovely tension. Can you reveal which of those “almost” moments was your favorite to write and why?

Oh, I can tell you off the top of my head that the romantic tension scene I love the most is the one in the ocean, after the storm. You know the one! Read: captain’s quarters. He’s so angry, and doesn’t know how to handle the emotions he has for this new, more independent Tella.

    Q. You introduce a few new characters and Pandoras in this book. If you would, please tell those who haven’t yet met them a little bit about Willow, Cotton and Mr. Larson and each of their Pandoras.

Sneaky, sneaky. I see how innocently you worded that. Trying to get me to divulge secrets and spoilers and such. Ha! I’ll say this, Cotton was my favorite new character to write, Willow I despised (for whatever reason), and Mr. Larson was the trickiest to get down on paper. I really wanted readers to sort of love to hate Mr. Larson, you know? Tough to do.

    Q. What has been your favorite part about writing these characters and this series?

The potential for action. Books are much easier to write when characters are in situations where the environment alone could hurt them. This book flowed easily, and that’s a lot more than I can say for some of the other titles I’ve tackled.

    REVIEW

SALT & STONE is an epic, heart-wrenching, action-packed, hold-your-breath and keep your fingers crossed kind of sequel. It has a lightning fast pace, an incredibly suspenseful, nail-biting plot, a female protagonist who gets stronger and more confident as the race continues, a male protagonist who is both infuriating and heart-stopping, even more Pandoras to adore, and a few surprises that can only be called jaw-dropping.

From the dangers of an ocean voyage to the perils of a snowy mountain, the action is non-stop for readers and contenders alike. The challenges are even deadlier. The losses are even more heartbreaking. The toll on the contenders more severe.

After having relied on Guy Chambers to get her through the first two rounds of the Brimstone Bleed, Tella Holloway is ready to take the lead and show that she is just as strong a competitor as he is. But proving herself to him and to the other contenders isn’t as easy as she’d hoped it would be. Especially when she’s not entirely confident about her decisions.

With so many lives already lost, Tella hopes to keep everyone in her group safe. But with new twists continually being added to the Brimstone Bleed, nothing and no one should be trusted. No matter how easy it is, or how much she wants to. Because with only one cure, how can anyone be blamed for doing whatever it takes to win?

Victoria Scott followed up her addictive and riveting novel FIRE & FLOOD with a sequel that surpasses it in intensity, tension, and heartbreak. It is even more thrilling, there are even more emotional highs and lows, the journey is even more harrowing, and the ending even more chilling.

The author keeps the hits coming, pausing only long enough to add some humor, ensure that the chemistry still sizzles, and allow readers to grieve over those lost along the way. She makes sure that this is a book readers not only won’t want to put down, but can’t put down. She places her characters in the most extreme conditions, requires them to have the strength to survive, asks them to retain their humanity, and hopes they’ll be able to live with what they’ve done.

SALT & STONE is an all-consuming, stay-up-until-the-very-end-no-matter-how-late read. It’s a story with a number of characters to love – a strong and immensely likable heroine, a swoon-worthy hero, a plethora of animal companions – and more than a few to hate. It delivers blows you will never see coming and some you will but won’t be able to avoid. It is, without a doubt, a spectacular second book in this series and is not only a must read, but a must read right this instance sort of book.

    The Excerpt

I’m frozen like an icicle in the ninth ring of hell.

“Who was that?” Kraven asks in a wary tone.

“A collector.” I silently curse myself for not opening my mind to sense another cuff. Because once I realized who it was, I sensed that cuff with screaming clarity. It was a careless mistake.

Turning around, I spot someone I don’t know standing near the girls. My legs move before my brain even processes what I’m doing. Then I’m standing between New Guy and Charlie. I grab the guy by his plaid shirt and shuffle him back and into a wall. “Who are you?”

“Whoa, calm down, steroids,” he says in a slight British accent. “Name’s Paine, and I’m going to give you some if you don’t ease up on the death grip, capiche?”

His words hint at smooth confidence, but he speaks in a submissive voice. It’s the voice of someone desperate to please others.

    I barely recognize it.

Kraven speaks up. “He’s one of us, Dante.”

Paine nods at his ankle where I imagine a gold cuff must lie hidden.

“A liberator?” I ask. Paine grins sheepishly, and I let go of his shirt. “Don’t be sneaking up on us like that again or you’ll be taking a dirt nap.”

“Sorry,” he says, and seems to mean it. He offers his hand. It’s wide and calloused and I respect that it appears he’s done real work in his short life. I shake it, feeling like an arse.

The guy looks to be in his early twenties and has a shaved head, though I can still spot the reddish-blond color he’s trying to hide. Paine’s eyes are set a bit too far apart, and he has long, chick-like lashes. His forehead protrudes, giving him a slight caveman appearance, and his body is that of a wrestler’s, like he’s itching to take someone to the mat. Overall, Paine kind of looks like a model, someone girls would dig because he’s strangely attractive. That’s not me. I’m hot like a bucket of fried chicken, baby.

I am so excited for this new series by author Jennifer L. Armentrout and can’t wait for my Kindle copy of WHITE HOT KISS to download on Monday Midnight. While I just recently grabbed an eARC, I wasn’t able to read it prior to its release but I will be reading the finished copy in the next couple of weeks.

I love that the main character in this story is part demon, part gargoyle. And I’m curious to learn how she manages to hide her darker nature. But I’m most interested in finding out whether a love triangle will develop between Layla, Zayne and Roth. This author really knows how to write angsty romance.

Plus, with the prospect of a demon uprising and the end of the world, this new series sounds awesome and I can’t wait to read it. I just have to decide whether or not to read the novella first.

    Description…

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

I am so excited that FIRE & FLOOD releases this week and that everyone will get the chance to read it. I can’t wait for the finished copy to download to my Kindle, especially as my eARC is a little mixed up and I’m definitely planning on reading this story again.

As I’ve already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post and I just posted my review for this earlier today, I don’t think I should ramble on and on about it. But it was a wonderful surprise. I absolutely loved the Pandoras – and Tella and Guy. And I really can’t wait for the sequel to come out.

It was such a great read that I’m hoping to be able to read it again in early April when I take my sailing class that will leave me on a boat for two nights with nothing but a Kindle to keep me company. It’s just one of those stories that you can easily get lost in and I have a feeling I’m going to need it.

    Book watch

    Description…

A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother’s life—and her own.

Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can’t determine what’s wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She’s lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she’s helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It’s an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother’s illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there’s no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can’t trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 480 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I absolutely love fairy tales and can’t wait for GRIM‘s release this week. I grabbed an eARC for review for the tour I’ll be on later this week and I read the two stories I have for my stop and loved them. But I can’t wait for the finished copy to download so I can read a few more.

Part of the fun with this anthology is trying to determine which stories relate to which fairy tales. Part of it is being able to experience each of these long favored stories in a new way, with a new voice.

I don’t typically read anthologies from cover to cover, but whenever I have a few moments to spare I will definitely be picking this up and checking out one or two.

    Description…

Inspired by classic fairy tales, but with a dark and sinister twist, Grim contains short stories from some of the best voices in young adult literature today: Ellen Hopkins, Amanda Hocking, Julie Kagawa, Claudia Gray, Rachel Hawkins, Kimberly Derting, Myra McEntire, Malinda Lo, Sarah Rees-Brennan, Jackson Pearce, Christine Johnson, Jeri Smith Ready, Shaun David Hutchinson, Saundra Mitchell, Sonia Gensler, Tessa Gratton, Jon Skrovan.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 400 pages.

THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS is the first book in a new series by Author Michelle Madow. The second book in the series, DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH, is slated for release on October 28, 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I received an ARC for review of THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS but I also pre-ordered a copy for my Kindle to show my support for the author. It was a super quick read and a lot of fun.

As the description is very cryptic I don’t want to say too much about what happens in this book. And as I plan on writing and posting a review this week, schedule permitting, I don’t want to end up sounding too redundant.

But it was a light and entertaining read with a chance to get to know a few of the characters through a story told in multiple point’s of view. And as it’s just the first book in a series, I’m curious to see where things are headed.

    Description…

    Savannah. Courtney. Peyton.

The three sisters grew up not knowing their father and not quite catching a break. But it looks like their luck is about to change when they find out the secret identity of their long-lost dad—a billionaire Las Vegas hotel owner who wants them to come live in a gorgeous penthouse hotel suite. Suddenly the Strip’s most exclusive clubs are all-access, and with an unlimited credit card each, it should be easier than ever to fit right in. But in a town full of secrets and illusion, fitting in is nothing compared to finding out the truth about their past.

    Faking Normal

FAKING NORMAL by Courtney C. Stevens will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 336 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I have long been awaiting the release of FAKING NORMAL, ever since I first heard about it ages and ages ago. And I was so totally excited that it would be downloading to my Kindle this week until I noticed that I had apparently grabbed an eARC and could have read it already – though even if I had known, I would be just as anxiously awaiting this in its final format.

The description and this book’s title make me just so curious about what happened to Alexi and Bodee and how they are able to help each other. It promises a story that is “searing” and “poignant” which makes me even more intrigued by it. I am expecting a story with characters I will either sympathize or empathize with and possibly one that will break my heart a little.

While this next week is going to be absolutely crazy IRL, I really hope to get this on the pile during the first two weeks in March.

    Description…

An edgy, realistic, and utterly captivating novel from an exciting new voice in teen fiction.

Alexi Littrell hasn’t told anyone what happened to her over the summer. Ashamed and embarrassed, she hides in her closet and compulsively scratches the back of her neck, trying to make the outside hurt more than the inside does.

When Bodee Lennox, the quiet and awkward boy next door, comes to live with the Littrells, Alexi discovers an unlikely friend in “the Kool-Aid Kid,” who has secrets of his own. As they lean on each other for support, Alexi gives him the strength to deal with his past, and Bodee helps her find the courage to finally face the truth.

A searing, poignant book, Faking Normal is the extraordinary debut novel from an exciting new author-Courtney C. Stevens.

Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?

There are an insane number of books releasing this week, but as of right now I only have five YA titles pre-ordered and two non-YA titles (HOUSE OF GLASS and FIFTY FIRST TIMES). But I’m pretty sure I’ll be grabbing books by Jessica Brody, Elizabeth Eulberg, Seth Fishman, and maybe one or two others before the week ends.

Things only get more crazy over the next month in terms of book releases, which makes me think I need to find a different way to create these posts as between researching releases, writing down my thoughts and posting all the details, they take anywhere from six to eight hours to create… more if I end up with close to ten books I’m pre-ordering.

My wallet is still not happy as I often acquire books mid-week. But at least all those charges don’t hit on one day.

I can’t wait to start reading WHITE HOT KISS by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I was hoping to get the chance to read it early, but my reading pile was just too crowded by the time I got my hands on a copy. And I can’t believe I forgot that I had an advance copy of FAKING NORMAL or I definitely would have read that pre-release.

Oh well… finished copies are always better, right?

Anyway… I hope that you get your hands on a copy of one or more of the awesome books releasing this week. There are just so many books that sound like fantastic reads that I hadn’t heard of before but I will definitely be taking a longer look at. Are any of this week’s releases new on your radar?

As always, happy bookish acquiring and reading this week!

    Review

Victoria Scott’s FIRE & FLOOD is a wonderfully addictive and immensely entertaining first book in a series of the same name. It offers a unique twist on a theme that is hugely popular, making for a story that is both instantly appealing and incredibly exciting.

The author invites readers into a world filled with deadly threats, unknown enemies and hidden agendas. She builds tension, nail-biting suspense and excitement in this action-packed adventure with a ticking clock, a mystery, uncertain and uneasy alliances and an environment that at times proves to be the biggest challenge of all.

When Tella Holloway is given the opportunity to save her brother, even if it means putting herself at risk, she leaps at the chance. Being isolated, in the wilderness that is her new home, and powerless to do anything but watch him get sicker, she is more than ready to throw caution to the wind and do whatever she can to help him get better.

Even if it means following the instructions of the recorded voice on a device her parents clearly didn’t want her to listen to. Even if it means running away from home in the dead of night to meet their deadline. Even if it means entering a competition where everyone is hoping to win the same prize.

Even if there can be only one winner.

FIRE & FLOOD invites readers to follow along as Tella enters the competition known as the Brimstone Bleed. A competition that pits Contenders against one another for the smallest chance to save someone they love. A race that challenges them to not only survive the threats from each other, but from the elements and natural predators in each ecosystem they are made to endure. A contest that forces them to put their trust in others who may not be the allies they appear to be.

A game that puts each participant’s willingness to do whatever it takes to the test again and again for a reason that is undisclosed. Put together by individuals who are unidentified. For a virtually unattainable prize whose effectiveness is unproven.

Danger, thrills, adventure, secrets, heartbreak and loss, shocks and surprises await readers in this riveting first installment in a series that promises more of the same. It introduces a main character who is compassionate, caring and loyal, albeit a bit naïve, but who has moments of fearlessness and strength, and who continues to grow throughout the story. It delivers an intriguing male protagonist whose agenda and motives are a mystery. And it delights with the enormously likable Pandoras.

Captivating from beginning to end, FIRE & FLOOD is an utterly enchanting and unputdownable must read.

    On a personal note…

I heard the buzz about FIRE & FLOOD long before I received a copy for review. I love the author’s writing so I knew that I’d end up reading this first book in her new series, but I wasn’t chomping at the bit to get a copy as I always try to steer clear of hyped books until the frenzy dies down.

But after I read the description I just knew I’d want to check this out early. Even with all the hype. Because I was curious to see how this particular author would deal with this type of story – a deadly contest, an incredible prize, contenders potentially battling it out to be the winner of said prize.

It’s a story that’s been done before and is kind of hot right now. So I was curious to see whether or not FIRE & FLOOD would come close to being as good as the story I compare all of these to – King’s The Long Walk.  I wondered if it would feel redundant or unoriginal or boring. I wanted to know if I would be captivated by it in spite of its similar theme.

And I fell in love with this story and its characters. It was a contest, there were tremendous risks, the Contenders did have to face deadly threats, they were forced to make decisions that put their lives and others’ lives on the line. But the way the author told the story, the main character she created to bring it to life, the elements she added that were all her own made this story riveting, exciting, memorable.

I probably should have guessed that I’d like this story solely based upon the name of the contest – the Brimstone Bleed. I think it’s one of the coolest titles ever. But I wasn’t entirely sure I’d like Tella, so I reserved judgment.

Tella wasn’t instantly likable. I don’t think the author meant for her to be. But over the course of the story some of the characteristics that made her likable began to shine through. And as the story progressed she grew as a character. By the story’s end I utterly adored her and am fully prepared to root for her in the sequel.

Before that connection, there was all sorts of stuff to keep me engaged – the mystery behind this contest, Tella’s fellow Contenders, the Pandoras, Guy Chambers. I fell in love with the Pandoras immediately, maybe even before I started to like Guy.

I would love to talk about what I found to be the most fascinating about this story, but as that is very much a spoiler, I can’t. Nor can I talk about what made it quite original – the Pandoras. And there’s no way I could talk about who made it swoon-worthy – Guy.

And while I was left with one question at the end of FIRE & FLOOD that I had hoped would get answered in that first book – I couldn’t figure out what drew Guy to Tella in the first place – reading a short scene from his POV that was outside of the story explained it perfectly.

FIRE & FLOOD is a super quick and totally addictive read – I devoured it in just a few short hours and immediately wanted the next book in the series to dive into. It’s incredibly exciting, with moments that are absolutely heartbreaking and those that are heart-stopping. It kept my interest from beginning to end and left me desperately wanting to remain in this world with these characters. To me that’s a win.

    Favorite passage…

Choosing just one – and a semi-non-spoiler-y one at that – was so hard. Of course most of my favorite passages involve Guy Chambers. Though a few involve a certain Pandora.

And while the one I am revealing is a bit… revealing… I didn’t include the entire passage.

My eyes find his, but he’s not looking at my eyes. He’s looking at my mouth. Before I can protest, he raises a hand and runs his thumb over my lips. I close my eyes and shiver beneath his touch. I feel him shift beside me, and then his warm palms wrap around my face. I pull in a breath.

FIRE & FLOOD Blog Tour: ‘Top Ten’ Guest Post + Giveaway

    FandF

I am so excited to be on the blog tour for FIRE & FLOOD and to be able to help spread the word about this amazing book. So. Freaking. Excited. And I’m just as excited to be able to share this post from Author Victoria Scott on the Top Ten Things Every Brimstone Bleed Contender Should Have.

    Emphasis on the should.

Because sadly not all contenders have all (or even one) of these ten handy items. And I’m not entirely sure anyone has item #8. I suppose I’ll have to ask the author about why that is. Everyone should have those. Always.

Anyway… I’m not going to spoil what the ten items are that the contenders should have. You can read about all of that below. And I won’t spoil what happens to Tella – what happens on the Brimstone Bleed stays on the Brimstone Bleed.

I won’t reveal more about the Pandoras – how awesome they are, how much I adore them. I won’t talk about the very swoon-worthy boy – step aside Dante Walker there’s a new, fierce, and infinitely hotter boy your creator has introduced. I won’t give away any hints about the different ecosystems – certainly not about how deadly they are. I refuse to reveal who seems trustworthy – or if anyone does….

And I absolutely will not discuss what I think is going on behind the scenes of the Brimstone Bleed. Not that I know anything about THAT… Well, not exactly….

FIRE & FLOOD releases next week – less than a week to go, oh my gosh! – so the wait is finally almost over. But if you can’t wait until then to get more F&F goodness, be sure to check out all the other stops on this tour. And especially the stop in which a scene from Guy’s POV is revealed. It explains so much. SO MUCH!

And if you’re in the US and you’d like to try and win a copy, scroll down to the Rafflecopter form toward the bottom of this post and enter for a chance. There are TEN copies up for grabs.

But now, after that way-too-long introductory ramble, let me turn the blog over to Victoria Scott so she can share the list of Brimstone Bleed should haves. Take note. Because you never know if you’ll be forced to be selected as a Contender.

Top Ten Things Every Brimstone Bleed Contender Should Have

    by Victoria Scott

    1.

A Pandora – This bugger will keep you alive, so be sure and choose your egg carefully at the Pandora Selection Process.

    2.

Boots – Trekking. Get used to that word because you’ll be doing a lot of it. Jungle, mountains, desert, ocean—regardless of what ecosystem you’re in, you need footwear.

    3.

Good underwear – Other Contenders are going to see you in your skivvies. Make an impression.

    4.

Toothpaste – Your meals will now consist of smoked snake and the occasional beetle. Better come packing to wash that flavor out of your mouth.

    5.

A knife – Hopefully your Pandora will render this tool useless, but you never know.

    6.

Tissues – There might come a time when you hear from your loved one back home, who you are trying to save. Prepare for waterworks.

    7.

A Lie Detector Test – Contenders may not claim to be who they say they are. Better safe than sorry.

    8.

M&Ms – Not sure why on this one. It just sounds like something that might be pleasant when you’re at your wits end.

    9.

A Canteen – Water is your friend in this race. Trust me; you don’t want to rely on others for it.

    10.

Your game face – Because really, this is the Brimstone Bleed.
