    Best Book Boyfriends of 2015

I’ve had such an eclectic reading year that I don’t have nearly as many book boyfriends as I’ve had in the past. Many of the books I’ve read and loved didn’t even have romance as part of the storyline. And I also know that due to the number of books I have read and loved this year I am forgetting a few of them – so sorry my lovely fic boys! But I did not prep this post well in advance, as I’d hoped to, and so I am certain I’m forgetting some of my favorites.

I’m also losing a few due to the fact that they have to be from books read and released this year.

    Anyway… here they are.

Best Books I’ve Read in 2015

BEST BOOKS I’VE READ IN 2015

I’ve read so many seriously amazing books this year, that picking just ten was a dreadfully impossible task. I’m just glad I read THE STARS NEVER RISE by Rachel Vincent in 2014 or it would have made narrowing down my list that much more horrendous. It also didn’t help that I read more books this year than last, that I’ve been in an eclectic reading mood, and that there were just so many incredible books written.

#1 MENAGERIE by Rachel Vincent – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s unique, it’s hard-hitting, the writing is beautiful, the story is phenomenal, the series potential has me desperate for the next installment.

#2 DEAD OF WINTER by Kresley Cole – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because this series is an all-time favorite, because the ending is abso-freaking-lutely killer, because it’s dark and gorgeous and the waiting is exquisite torture.

#3 SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because the story is epic, the world-building incredible, the writing gorgeous, the detail impeccable.

#4 TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU by Claudia Gray – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because the writing is stunning, the world expansive and fascinating, the series riveting.

#5 BRUTAL YOUTH by Anthony Breznican – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s dark and gritty and edgy and shocking and disturbing, the writing brilliant, the story unforgettable.

#6 SCHISM by Jenna Black – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s complex and interesting and fascinating. The world is chilling and still amazing. The characters sympathetic and scary. The story compelling.

#7 AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s thrilling and epic and gripping and unputdownable. The dual POV makes it edge-of-your-seat exciting.

#8 THE ROSE SOCIETY by Marie Lu – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s so wicked and dark and wildly entertaining. It’s about villains. Nothing more needs to be said.

#9 ROOK by Sharon Cameron – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s action-packed, nerve-wracking, suspenseful. There are twists and turns. There’s romance, betrayal and heartbreak. What’s not to love?

#10 SALT & STONE by Victoria Scott – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s awesome and amazing and adorable and nail-biting. The characters are ones you can’t help but love, love, love. Though the possibility that there might not be a next book in the series is heartbreaking.

    Honorable Mentions

I really wanted to limit honorable mentions to just five, but I couldn’t do it. Limiting it to 15 was hard enough as it was.

So those are my favorite reads for 2015. What are yours?

    Description…

From New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu comes the second book in the exhilarating Young Elites series

Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, and she destroyed them all.

Adelina Amouteru’s heart has suffered at the hands of both family and friends, turning her down the bitter path of revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she and her sister flee Kenettra to find other Young Elites in the hopes of building her own army of allies. Her goal: to strike down the Inquisition Axis, the white-cloaked soldiers that murdered her love, the Crown Prince Enzo Valenciano.

But Adelina is no heroine. Her powers, fed only by fear and hate, have started to grow beyond her control. She does not trust her newfound Elite friends. Teren Santoro, leader of the Inquisition, wants her dead. And her former friends, Raffaele and the Dagger Society, want to stop her thirst for vengeance. Adelina struggles to cling to the good within her. But how can someone be good, when her very existence depends on darkness?

NOTE: This review is based on a finished copy received from the publisher in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book.

    The Audio Excerpt

    The Review

THE ROSE SOCIETY is darker, the characters deadlier, the story more action-packed, electrifying, riveting than the first book in the series. There are new enemies, new alliances, new and more powerful abilities, and new goals and motivations for those in power and those who want to be in power.

Kicked out of the Dagger Society, reeling from all that she has lost, Adelina Amouteru is not about to let guilt consume her. Not when she tried so hard to do what was right. Not when she felt just as betrayed as her supposed friends felt. Not when there was a chance that she could get her revenge.

Forced to flee Kenettra with its new Queen and the leader of the Inquisition hunting the Young Elites and imprisoning all malfettos, Adelina and her sister Violetta go in search of one of the most notorious Young Elites, Magiano, in the hopes of forging an alliance. Finding him would be tough, even with Violetta’s ability. Convincing him to join them on their quest for vengeance would be even more difficult. They would have to prove themselves worthy allies, which meant trusting a stranger and putting themselves at risk.

But if Adelina ever had any hope of exacting her revenge against Teren Santoro for what he’d done to her and what he took from her, and against Raffaele, the new leader of the Dagger Society, who’d deceived her and abandoned her, she would have to pass Magiano’s test. Which wouldn’t be that much of a challenge if she had the ability to control her rage and her powers and which would be a huge problem is she couldn’t.

The story picks up shortly after where it left off in the first book in the series and brings readers right back into this danger-filled world with characters who’ve become even more determined, ruthless, blood-thirsty, power hungry. It introduces new characters who are just as driven, violent, malicious. And it ratchets up the intensity of the conflicts, the battles, and Adelina’s struggle with her illusions, her anger, her sanity.

Author Marie Lu has taken her story and characters to a much darker place in this sequel. The thirst for power supersedes the goal of doing good, of saving innocents. Plans are put into action that pit former allies against one another in lethal clashes, that cross the divide between life and death, and that are guaranteed to leave substantial carnage and destruction in their wake.

THE ROSE SOCIETY is chilling, gripping, and wickedly appealing. The pace is lightning-fast. The action does not let up. The characters’ cold-blooded and vicious natures are both fascinating and disturbing. It is a story that is shocking, horrifying, and completely and totally mind-blowing in all the very best ways.

    The Rating

I write young adult novels, and have a special love for dystopian books. Ironically, I was born in 1984. Before becoming a full-time writer, I was an Art Director at a video game company. Now I shuffle around at home and talk to myself a lot. 🙂

    Formats: Hardcover, paperback, audio, eBook

    Description…

I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.
