    The Review

THE QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS is an epic finish to an absolutely phenomenal series. There is not a page, not a moment, that isn’t riveting. The action is intense, the story is suspenseful and exciting and heartbreaking, the romance sizzles, the characters are interesting and engaging, lovable and detestable. It’s an all-consuming read that is utterly unputdownable.

Everything has been leading up to the explosive finish pitting the slayers against Anima Industries. But it’s not a battle that will easily be won. There will be casualties along the way. There will be heartbreaking loss.

Even with new allies, their victory isn’t certain. And even with Ali’s new ability she will not be able to save everyone she loves or keep herself safe from the danger that their enemy poses. But she will not go down without a fight, even if the price she has to pay is her own life.

This final installment in the series is filled with even more heart-stopping action, even steamier romance, and even more devastating, heartwrenching loss. THE QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS introduces new characters as it says goodbye to characters readers have known and loved, it introduces each chapter with a title that will make readers grin, and ratchets up the tension as it builds to its incredibly climactic conclusion.

There will be shocks and surprises accompanied by tears and heartache along the way. But there will be moments that will make readers cheer and others that will make them swoon. Lingering questions will be answered and by the story’s end everything will be wrapped up with a final note from one of the remaining characters.

Gena Showalter pulled out all the stops when writing THE QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS. She did not hold anything back and in turn delivered an amazing series-ending story that is unequivocally a must, must, must read.

    The Rating…

    06

Like In-N-Out Burger‘s infamous secret menu this one deserves my off-the-menu 6 star rating.

    On a Personal Note…

Best book in the series. That is all.

Oh… I have to say something else? Like why it was the best. Or why when I finished reading it I was a complete wreck. Or why that last little bit at the end made me smile even though I was totally destroyed.

Well, I can’t reveal any of that or it would be super spoiler-y.

So maybe I have to talk about how many times my jaw dropped because of what just happened. Or perhaps I should share just how often I said, “Wait…what? Did that just…? Are you kidding? No way… No way! Noooooooooooo!” Let’s just say it was often enough that by the end of the read my jaw was killing me and the looks I was getting for shouting at an inanimate object weren’t friendly. But I wasn’t embarrassed… not really.

Because THE QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS tore my heart out. It left me in tatters. It made me scream and sob. But it also made me cheer and smile and I never lost hope for a happy ending for Ali.

There were quite a few twists and turns in this last book. I guessed a few of them correctly, a couple others I did not see coming until I was completely steamrolled by them. As hoped for there was plenty of action. There was a ton of nail-biting, nerve-wracking tension and suspense. I was angst-ridden from page one until the very end.

Of course I would have loved this to be a longer series. I would have loved this series to go on for at least a couple more books. I would still love it if there were spinoff novels planned for certain characters – who I won’t name as I don’t want to reveal what happens to any of the characters in this series.

But it was an amazing ending to an absolutely phenomenal book and series. And even though there were all sorts of tears throughout the read, with moments that left me feeling completely gutted, I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

So, yes it was an emotional roller coaster, that often felt more like I was being shoved off a tall building. And yes, it was definitely a bittersweet addition to this series. And, yes, I am devastated about the fact that this has ended. But I couldn’t have loved it more.

    Favorite Passage…

As I don’t want to risk spoiling anything about this book, I am not going to reveal my most favorite passage from the story. But this one, from very early in the story, is all sorts of yummy.

“You can look at me now,” he said. “I won’t bite. Very hard.”

Our gazes locked, and I was inexorably trapped by a yearning that had plagued me since moment one. For him…this…more.

A slow grin lifted the corners of his wicked mouth.

Dude. He should totally come with a warning. Possible Panty Melting. Moonlight spilled over him, illuminating him, and for a moment, I thought I heard angels singing. His black hair stood out in adorable spikes, as if he’d plowed his hands through it one too many times. Eager to see me, perhaps? His gorgeous violet eyes were framed by lashes so thick and black he always looked like he was wearing eyeliner. (He wasn’t.)

    And his body…

Good glory! I knew what waited under his clothing. Skin bronzed to perfection. Muscles honed to perfection. A perfect chest covered by the most perfect tattoos. One of his nipples was pierced—meow!—and it was, you guessed it, perfect.

He feathered his knuckles over my cheek, the slight touch electrifying me. “I missed you.”

I am so excited to be able to reveal the amazing cover for Gena Showalter’s THE QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS on the blog today. This cover is wicked awesome and it makes me really nervous about just how insane things will get in the final book in this series.

***Prepare yourself for the cover love***

I love how all these covers have a three-dimensional feel to them with the playing card framing. I love that this cover differs from the first two with its brighter and bolder color choice for the font and accents, but yet still is visually cohesive.

I love how the cover model’s expression has gone from sweet and innocent to one that is quite mad. Which ties in perfectly with this book’s tagline. I love that in the background behind the model on this cover there is nothing but blackness.

And I just love the fact that each of the covers in this series pays homage to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and are a little bit quirky, a little bit beautiful, a little bit whimsical and a little bit lavish.

From the hairstyle to the ruffled blouse to the ornate chair Ali’s seated upon, this cover screams “mad queen.” And it makes me even more desperate for the days to pass quickly until its September 30th release.

And as these covers are even more amazing in print than on a computer screen, I cannot wait to see just how stunning and vibrant this cover will be.

There is just one thing I’m curious about… On the first book’s cover the tagline ended in a period. On the second book’s cover it ended in an exclamation point. On this third book’s cover there is no end punctuation at all. Is it meant to be unfinished – has madness done away with the need for punctuation? Or is it still to be decided as to whether that statement deserves a a period, an exclamation point, ellipses or perhaps even an interrobang? I await my finished copy to get that answer.

Do I love this cover? Absolutely. Will I love this book more? Of that I have no doubt. Has revealing this cover made me that much more desperate to read it? YES! YES! 100% YES!

    Description…

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.
    I’d tell my sister no.
I’d never beg my mother to talk to my dad.
I’d zip my lips and swallow those hateful words.
Or, barring all of that, I’d hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.
I’d tell them I love them.
    I wish… Yeah, I wish.

    Today’s topic is…

Books I’m Looking Forward to in 2014

Last year, it seems, I cheated a little and I changed the post to top ten books in a series I’m dying to continue reading. This year I’m going to do the same.

Because there are already at least 80 books I’m pining for that will be releasing next year and there’s no way I can narrow that list down to ten. So this tens list is in NO way complete. Not by far.

Of course I just had to do an “honorable mentions” section listing a few other books I’m dying to read. And I will be posting a list of Top 10 Debut Books I’m Looking Forward to in 2014 on The Annex to fill some of those gaps I’m leaving.

But, to make things easier on myself, I decided to leave off the books in 2014 that I am looking forward to but have already read or am reading. Books such as UNHINGED by A.G. Howard, INDEPENDENT STUDY by Joelle Charbonneau, EVERTRUE by Brodi Ashton, PANIC by Lauren Oliver, and A LITTLE TOO HOT by Lisa Desrochers.

While this is the hardest list I’ve had to create yet, I think I’m happy with my choices. I just wish some of those “must read” 2014 books had covers… or titles.
