    Best Book Boyfriends of 2015

I’ve had such an eclectic reading year that I don’t have nearly as many book boyfriends as I’ve had in the past. Many of the books I’ve read and loved didn’t even have romance as part of the storyline. And I also know that due to the number of books I have read and loved this year I am forgetting a few of them – so sorry my lovely fic boys! But I did not prep this post well in advance, as I’d hoped to, and so I am certain I’m forgetting some of my favorites.

I’m also losing a few due to the fact that they have to be from books read and released this year.

    Anyway… here they are.

    #1 Death

…from DEAD OF WINTER by Kresley Cole

    Best Contemporaries of 2015

    Today’s topic is:

    Best ________ of 2015

Today is blogger’s choice and this year I decided to break with tradition and instead of debuts I have chosen to share my favorite contemporary reads of 2015 since I read so many of them this year. And while I may be stretching things a bit I am including contemporary thrillers in this list.

If you want to know why they’re my favorites, just click their titles to check out my bookish thoughts and ratings.

My Top 10 Favorite YA Contemporaries

And instead of listing honorable mentions, though I had many of those, I am sharing…

My Top 5 Favorite Non-YA Contemporaries

I wish they didn’t have to be books I’d read in 2015 because I totally would have had MAYHEM by Jamie Shaw on this list. But while my review posted in 2015, I read it in 2014 so I can’t sneak it in.

#1 MISSING DIXIE by Caisey Quinn – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

#2 SWEET by Tammara Webber – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

#3 BOUNCE by Noelle August – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Best Books I’ve Read in 2015

BEST BOOKS I’VE READ IN 2015

I’ve read so many seriously amazing books this year, that picking just ten was a dreadfully impossible task. I’m just glad I read THE STARS NEVER RISE by Rachel Vincent in 2014 or it would have made narrowing down my list that much more horrendous. It also didn’t help that I read more books this year than last, that I’ve been in an eclectic reading mood, and that there were just so many incredible books written.

#1 MENAGERIE by Rachel Vincent – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s unique, it’s hard-hitting, the writing is beautiful, the story is phenomenal, the series potential has me desperate for the next installment.

#2 DEAD OF WINTER by Kresley Cole – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because this series is an all-time favorite, because the ending is abso-freaking-lutely killer, because it’s dark and gorgeous and the waiting is exquisite torture.

#3 SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because the story is epic, the world-building incredible, the writing gorgeous, the detail impeccable.

#4 TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU by Claudia Gray – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because the writing is stunning, the world expansive and fascinating, the series riveting.

#5 BRUTAL YOUTH by Anthony Breznican – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s dark and gritty and edgy and shocking and disturbing, the writing brilliant, the story unforgettable.

#6 SCHISM by Jenna Black – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s complex and interesting and fascinating. The world is chilling and still amazing. The characters sympathetic and scary. The story compelling.

#7 AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s thrilling and epic and gripping and unputdownable. The dual POV makes it edge-of-your-seat exciting.

#8 THE ROSE SOCIETY by Marie Lu – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s so wicked and dark and wildly entertaining. It’s about villains. Nothing more needs to be said.

#9 ROOK by Sharon Cameron – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s action-packed, nerve-wracking, suspenseful. There are twists and turns. There’s romance, betrayal and heartbreak. What’s not to love?

#10 SALT & STONE by Victoria Scott – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s awesome and amazing and adorable and nail-biting. The characters are ones you can’t help but love, love, love. Though the possibility that there might not be a next book in the series is heartbreaking.

    Honorable Mentions

I really wanted to limit honorable mentions to just five, but I couldn’t do it. Limiting it to 15 was hard enough as it was.

So those are my favorite reads for 2015. What are yours?

FIRST & THEN Book Superlative Blog Tour + Giveaway

    FandTBT

I am so excited to be today’s stop on the FIRST & THEN Book Superlative Blog Tour. Not only because I had such a fun superlative, but because it’s FIRST & THEN’s release day!

    HBB

This was such a fun idea for a tour, and I loved checking out all the stops to see what each of the bloggers had to say about their superlatives. If you’d like to follow along, the tour schedule with direct links to all the stops is at the bottom of this post. And if you’d like to check out the tour page on Fierce Reads, just click the banner at the top of this post or the tour graphic a bit further down.

For my stop today I get to talk about the “Friendliest Author(s) on Twitter.” And while I normally ramble endlessly about who I think is awesome and why I think they’re awesome, I decided to do so in a way that was less words, more pics. And of course there are plenty more than just the authors I chose to include, but I managed to narrow it down just a bit.

My tour stop also includes a giveaway for a copy of FIRST & THEN. This is an amazing book and a total must read. If you’d like to know what I thought about it, my review is HERE. But if you haven’t yet heard about FIRST & THEN check out the description – with a link to an excerpt – below.

And if you want to see who I think is super sweet on Twitter, scroll down just a bit further to find out!

    Description…

Devon Tennyson wouldn’t change a thing. She’s happy silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon’s cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive jock, Ezra, right where she doesn’t want them–first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life.

With wit, heart, and humor to spare, First & Then is a contemporary novel about falling in love–with the unexpected boy, with a new brother, and with yourself.

I’m a hopeful romantic who adores novels with happy endings, because there are enough sad endings in real life. My Reading Pile #163

    myreadingpile

I received just one book in the mail this week but it’s a book I’ve been dying to read since I first learned of its existence. So this is a very, very happy bookish week for me.

    My Reading Pile 163

[Credit for mailbox sharing goes to The Story Siren]

I received a copy of Tammara Webber’s BREAKABLE, the second book in her Contours of the Heart series, courtesy of the very, very amazing author and her publisher Penguin Berkley.

It releases in just over a week, so it’s going on the pile this weekend, as I can’t wait to read this story told from Lucas’ POV. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! So excited.

I also grabbed two eARCs from NetGalley – one which is for a tour and the other is a read now title.

I actually already read GRADUATION DAY (The Testing #3) by Joelle Charbonneau, but loaned my printed ARC out and wasn’t sure I’d get it back in time for the tour so I grabbed the eARC from the tour widget courtesy of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s Book Group and NetGalley. I love, love, loved this series and was so sad to see it end. But now that I have the eARC maybe it’s time for a series re-read.

I also grabbed a copy of I AM THE WEAPON (Boy Nobody #1) by Allen Zadoff, thanks to the invite to read courtesy of the publisher, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, and NetGalley. While it’s not my typical YA read, I’m very much in the mood for a thriller and this sounds like it will be the perfect action-packed read.

While it releases in a few weeks, there are a couple of other books I just have to read this week. And they are…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

    (April 27, 2014 – May 3, 2014)

    Dreams of Gods & Monsters

    AddtoGoodreads

First up on the pile is DREAMS OF GODS & MONSTERS by Laini Taylor. I had purchased each of the books in this series on its release date and only just now got them on my reading pile. And I have no idea what I was waiting for.

This series is so unbelievably amazing. I can’t even begin to describe how awesome these books are. And while I am not quite caught up to this third and final book – I’m currently reading DAYS OF BLOOD & STARLIGHT – I will be reading this final book this weekend. I have no choice in the matter. I am addicted.

I had to squint when pasting in this book’s description. Because if any part of what’s going on in book two gets spoiled I know I will cry. But the urge to peek is dangerously tempting. So I am going to stop typing so very close to the description and move on to talking about the next book on the pile.

But I just know this final book will be amazing and I have a feeling heartbreaking. And I know at some point I’m not going to want to see it end. But I will be reading this series back-to-back-to-back even if saying goodbye kills me. And I will be finished with this book by Sunday night.

    The Description…

By way of a staggering deception, Karou has taken control of the chimaera rebellion and is intent on steering its course away from dead-end vengeance. The future rests on her, if there can even be a future for the chimaera in war-ravaged Eretz.

    Common enemy, common cause.

When Jael’s brutal seraph army trespasses into the human world, the unthinkable becomes essential, and Karou and Akiva must ally their enemy armies against the threat. It is a twisted version of their long-ago dream, and they begin to hope that it might forge a way forward for their people.

And, perhaps, for themselves. Toward a new way of living, and maybe even love.

But there are bigger threats than Jael in the offing. A vicious queen is hunting Akiva, and, in the skies of Eretz … something is happening. Massive stains are spreading like bruises from horizon to horizon; the great winged stormhunters are gathering as if summoned, ceaselessly circling, and a deep sense of wrong pervades the world.

What power can bruise the sky?

From the streets of Rome to the caves of the Kirin and beyond, humans, chimaera and seraphim will fight, strive, love, and die in an epic theater that transcends good and evil, right and wrong, friend and enemy.

At the very barriers of space and time, what do gods and monsters dream of? And does anything else matter?

    Breakable

    AddtoGoodreads

Next up on the pile is BREAKABLE by Tammara Webber. I received an ARC in the mail this week thanks to the amazing author and her publisher, Penguin Berkley. And I am so excited to read this story told from Lucas’ perspective.

I loved EASY, Tammara Webber is an amazing author, and I am a huge fan of reading alternate POV stories. So I just know this read is going to be awesome.

I can’t wait to find out what Lucas was thinking and feeling and doing during those moments that I could only just speculate about before. I can’t wait to get to know him better and learn more about his life and his past. And if it’s even close to as heartbreaking as the description sounds, I just know there will be tears.

So, if things go as planned this weekend with my reading, I hope to be able to start and finish this on Monday.

    The Description…

He was lost and alone. Then he found her.

And the future seemed more fragile than ever.

As a child, Landon Lucas Maxfield believed his life was perfect and looked forward to a future filled with promise — until tragedy tore his family apart and made him doubt everything he ever believed.

All he wanted was to leave the past behind. When he met Jacqueline Wallace, his desire to be everything she needed came so easy…

As easy as it could be for a man who learned that the soul is breakable and that everything you hoped for could be ripped away in a heartbeat.

    Wishful Thinking Reads

My wishful thinking read this week is SECOND STAR by Alyssa B. Sheinmel. I requested a copy for review and have had it on my “soon to be read” pile for ages. And I really, really wish I could have read it already. But between odd reading moods, and Kindle vs. print book ease of reading, I haven’t yet had the chance. And while I’d love to say that I could sneak it on the pile this week, as I have a ton of stuff to do IRL, it is likely only going to be a wish.

    divider1

    Those Left Behind

I started reading THE TAKING by Kimberly Derting, which was last week’s only read. And I very much enjoyed the writing style and liked the story, but I got a bit hung up on a couple of things as regards all the characters’ reactions. So after reading 35% of the story I set it aside for a bit to come back to later. It’s very possible that there is a reason for what I felt were odd reactions to the disappearance, so I plan on continuing this story, perhaps later this week, but I decided to leave it behind for now.

And I picked up a book that is absolutely incredible. I could not find a review book on my Kindle that called to me late one night this past week. All the potential reads I might have been in the mood for were downstairs in print. Then I happened upon DREAMS OF GODS & MONSTERS and I thought, why not start this series.

So I opened up DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE and immediately got sucked into this magical, imaginative, exciting and different world and fell madly in love. Which is why I’m currently reading the sequel and plan on reading the final book this weekend.

And as soon as I finish BREAKABLE I will be reading MY LAST KISS. And maybe writing one or two reviews. But we shall see. I do have to take an exam this weekend… one I really need to study for. So maybe next week will be the better week to catch up.

    divider1

    NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds

Once again I didn’t spend too much time on NetGalley, though I have been stalking a certain publisher’s books in hopes of discovering a YA contemporary title in a series that I’m really looking forward to reading. It’s not there yet, but I can be patient… maybe.

And while I haven’t requested any new titles, though I did grab the two that were offered to me, I did find a few that are definitely worth requesting.

    Here are this week’s finds…

THE STEPSISTER’S TALE by Tracy Barrett (Harlequin Teen, Jun 24 2014)

THE WARRIOR (Dante Walker #3) by Victoria Scott (Entangled Publishing LLC, May 6 2014)

MARY: THE SUMMONING (Bloody Mary #1) by Hillary Monahan (Disney Book Group, Sep 2 2014)

    FROSTBORN (Thrones & Bones #1) by Lou Anders (Random House Children’s, Aug 5 2014) – a MG/YA title

THE VAST AND BRUTAL SEA (The Vicious Deep #3) by Zoraida Cordova (Sourcebooks Fire, Jul 1 2014)

SIX FEET OVER IT by Jennifer Longo (Random House Children’s, Aug 26 2014)

THE HUNTED by Charlie Higson (Penguin Books UK, Sep 4 2014) **UK Reviewers Preferred**

CONVERSION by Katherine Howe (Penguin Young Readers Group, Jul 1 2014)

FIREBUG by Lish McBride (Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, Sep 23 2014)

EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN by Lindsey Lane (Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, Sep 23 2014)

I have not yet begun studying for my exam… but maybe by the time this posts I will have. While I loved having my Dad come to visit, I missed my quiet evenings reading and blogging. I don’t remember the last time I ate out for every single meal of the day for like a week. Ugh… so full. Still.

And while I didn’t end up making a total fool out of myself while sailing the other week with him, things could have gone just a bit smoother… and might have if I opted for the larger boat. *SIGH* lesson learned.

Anyway… once this test has been taken I’ll pretty much be done with tests for sailing… at least until I take Advanced Coastal Cruising, which is a four night/five day trip up the coast and involves round-the-clock sailing. And oh how I would love to be taking that class right about now. There is nothing better IMO.

I hope that the books on your pile are as awesome as the ones on mine. I am so excited to have finally discovered Laini Taylor’s series. I’m just worried that the next fantasy/urban fantasy/angels and demons story I read will pale in comparison. It is just that mind-blowing.

While I may be out sailing or at the movies or taking a test or sleeping right now, I still want to wish you a very happy reading week this week!

    Giveaway: Between the Lines Series

In my early days of blogging I had the good fortune to be introduced to an amazing writer with a book that was not only beautifully written but surprised me by its depth. Having read the description I assumed I was picking up a book that was fun and flirty but what I got was a book that was layered, dramatic and made me feel a strong emotional connection with its characters.

And that book was BETWEEN THE LINES by Tammara Webber.

I knew immediately that this author was one of those writers that was insanely talented at her craft and that I would buy every single book that she wrote. And I have. And I will continue to do so.

In addition to being an amazing author she’s also an amazing person. I was at an incredibly low point, on the verge of quitting blogging, when she sent me an email that completely turned things around. And I will forever be grateful. It meant the world to me.

And now, out of the blue, she generously offered to send me a set of her Between the Lines books signed. Which I just had to accept because… oh come on, do I really need to say? It’s Tammara Webber. It’s Between the Lines. It’s Reid and Emma and Graham.

Since the author was so incredibly generous to gift me this lovely series I want to do the same. Though the books won’t be signed. And as they’re not yet available from The Book Depository, I can only offer the print versions to a winner if they’re in the U.S. But anyone who can accept Kindle eGifts internationally can enter for a chance to win the series in eBook format for their Kindle.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to discover this series I’ve included descriptions of each of the books below along with places you can find them online so that you can learn more about them. But if you’ve already heard about these amazing books and they’re already on your wishlist, then just skip to the giveaway at the bottom of this post.

I haven’t yet said goodbye to this series, so I can’t tell you how it all ends – as if I would. But even if everything ends with a happily ever after, I know I’m going to be heartbroken when the time comes to say goodbye.

Emma Pierce just got her big break after years of filming commercials and made-for-TV movies. Winning the lead role in a wide-release film – opposite the very hot Reid Alexander – should be a dream come true. But Emma’s heart is hiding a secret fantasy: she wants to be a normal girl.

WHERE YOU ARE (Between the Lines #2)

Where You ArePublication Date: October 20, 2011
    Pages: 250
    Formats: Paperback, Audio, eBook

    GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE

    Description:

Graham Douglas doesn’t do romantic relationships, but he was knocked for a loop when he met Emma Pierce on the set of his last film. As they grew closer, he did everything in his power to keep from falling for a girl being pursued by superstar Reid Alexander. Now home in New York, his life is once again under control, until Emma appears and shows him hownot over her he is.

Emma Pierce is forsaking an up-and-coming Hollywood career to embark on a life she’s only dreamed of—the life of a regular girl. After spending months burying her feelings for the two night-and-day guys who vied for her heart while filming her last movie, a twist of fate puts her in a coffee shop in the middle of Manhattan with the one she still misses.

Brooke Cameron was a fresh-faced Texas girl when she arrived in LA. Now she’s a beach sitcom star turned conceited heiress on the big screen. Having just survived three months on location with her ex—Hollywood’s reigning golden boy—she’s older and wiser and has set her sights on her close friend Graham. The only thing standing in her way is the girl he can’t forget.

Reid Alexander can sum up his life in one word: boring. Between film projects, there’s little going on outside of interviews, photo shoots, and the premiere of the film he finished last fall. The next-to-last thing he expects is to get a second chance with Emma, the girl who rejected him. The last thing he expects is for his still-bitter-ex to be the one to offer it to him on a platter.

    Description:

Reid Alexander’s celebrity life is an open book. Every relationship, every error in judgment is analyzed by strangers. His latest mistake totaled his car, destroyed a house and landed him in the hospital. As his PR team works overtime to salvage his image, one thing is clear—this is one predicament he won’t escape without paying for it.

Dori Cantrell is a genuine humanitarian—the outward opposite of everything Reid represents. When his DUI plea bargain lands him under her community service supervision, she proves unimpressed with his status and indifferent to his proximity, and he soon wants nothing more than to knock her off of her pedestal and prove she’s human.

Counting the days until his month of service ends, Dori struggles to ignore Reid’s wicked pull while challenging him to recognize his own wasted potential. But Dori has secrets of her own, safely locked away until one night turns her entire world upside down. Suddenly their only hope for connection and redemption hinges on one choice: whether or not to have faith in each other.

    Poison.

Reid’s in love with Dori, though she hasn’t told her parents that she’s fallen hard for the guy they’d forbidden her to see.
