SWEET RECKONING Blog Tour: Character Interview with Kaidan Rowe + Giveaway

    SR_BannerH

I am over-the-moon thrilled to be on the SWEET RECKONING Blog Tour hosted by Kismet Book Touring. I am madly in love with this series – have been since long before the first book’s release – I’ve crushed on Kaidan Rowe since the moment I met him and cannot believe I got the chance to interview him for my tour stop today.

SWEET RECKONING released last week, and if you haven’t read this last book in the series yet, you totally must! Go ahead… I’ll wait. It’s sexy, it’s swoon-worthy, it’s got some nail-biting action and an ending that wraps things up nicely. Though of course, if you’re as big a fan of this series as I am, you won’t be ready to say goodbye.

So if you’re not quite ready to say your goodbyes, then be sure to check out all the stops on this tour for some fabulous guest posts and interviews with the author and with some of my most favorite characters in the series. The schedule (which will be updated with direct links when the posts go “live”) is at the bottom of this post. But if you’d like a bit more info about the tour, be sure to visit Kismet Book Touring’s Tour Page for details by clicking the image above, or their logo at the end of this post.

And while I have included details about all the books in this series, and some information about the very lovely author, Wendy Higgins, I just had to post my interview with Kai first. Because it he is that awesome.

So… without any further rambles, ado or other blathering, let me welcome Kaidan Rowe to the blog…

    The Interview

Hi Kai, welcome back to the blog. I’m so excited to be able to chat with you again now that circumstances have…changed. I have a million and one questions, but as many of them might reveal too much about those circumstances, I’ll try not to ask too many.

    Q. There have been a lot of ups and downs in your life when it comes to your relationship with Anna. What is your favorite moment with her? What is your least favorite?

Hallo, Rachel. Good to chat with you again, luv. Ah, okay, let’s get the least favorite out of the way, yeah? That whole Kopano time blew like no other. The thought of them snogging still makes me insane after all this time, and I know I reacted badly. I don’t like to think about it. Moving on then. My favorite moment? I can’t go into detail, but let’s just say it involved much-anticipated introductions of me to her freckles.

    Q. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? If you could change one thing about Anna what would it be?

I would change my past, and how weak I was when I lived only for myself, without hope of anything better. I can’t say I’d change anything about Anna because then she’d be different. I want her to always be her. (Earning my sweet-points today…)

    Q. You seem to want what’s best for Anna. Do you think you’re what’s best for her? Do you think Kopano is?

No matter what happens I don’t think I’ll ever be what’s best for Anna. I’ll always feel she can do better. For a long time I believed Kope was that “better” person—that he was the only one who could ever deserve her. But that’s in the past, and I won’t let her go. All I can do is be the best man I can be right now.

    Q. Being the son of the Duke of Lust isn’t nearly as exciting as it might seem. But has it been all bad? Were there any things you were made to do that you actually enjoyed?

I enjoyed quite a bit of it in the physical sense, but it was temporary enjoyment—not the kind of enjoyment that fills you with any sort of true joy or whatever. I liked hanging with my band and playing at our gigs when I could just let go and not think, but as far as all the sexual stuff went, it’s a bit disconcerting when you constantly fear being watched and graded and pushed to “up the stakes.” My father’s tastes required me to see, hear, and know things that any normal person would deem deplorable.

    Q. If you could have chosen which Duke to work for who would it be and why?

I’d stay right where I am. Better the devil you know, and all that.

    Q. What do you think of Anna’s Dad, Duke Belial? While your father is super scary, does Anna’s father intimidate you maybe just a little?

I won’t lie. Belial scares the piss outta me. He always looks two seconds from acting on the urge to tie my knob in a knot, which would be a shame as I’m quite attached to it. He’s bloody protective of his daughter, and I think he’s finally realizing I am, as well, but that doesn’t change the fact that he doesn’t trust me with her. I suppose I wouldn’t either.

    Q. When you first met Anna did you ever think things would end up where they did? While I am not going to ask you to reveal what exactly happened, what did you think would happen?

From early on I believed Anna would end up dead. She did not seem maleable to our way of life. I thought surely that her damn morals would get her killed, and get me killed by association. I never dreamed I’d come to admire her refusal to conform. Turns out I was wrong about her. When the pressure was on, she did what she had to do to stay alive and fight the fight. Did I ever think things would end up where they did? No. Never. It was far beyond my capacity to think in those terms. Each day is a shock for me when I wake to see what’s become of my life because of that once-naïve girl.

    Q. How would you describe Anna to someone who never met her?

Compassionate to a fault. Easily excited. Loyal. Bleedin’ adorable, and sexy as hell.

    Q. Do you think you are redeemable? And if so, do you feel you deserve redemption?

This is, and probably always will be, a difficult topic for me. Deep down I say no—I’m not redeemable and don’t deserve anything. Anna tells me otherwise, but I will always be haunted by the memories of the people I’ve hurt or witnessed being hurt without intervening.

Lovely note to end this interview, yeah?

*runs hand through hair*  Sorry ‘bout that. Shall I play “Talk Dirty”on my iPod to lighten the mood? Always works for Blake when things get awkward, haha.

    Thanks for having me. Cheers.

Any note from you is a lovely note, Kai. Happy, sad, wicked, sexy… *sigh.*

Although I am maybe just a little bit heartbroken that I won’t get another peek into your and Anna’s life. However, I am keeping my fingers crossed. Because ya never know….

Anyway… thank you so much for stopping by and answering my many questions. So sorry for what you had to go through with regard to Anna + Kope. Sorry to hear that Belial scares you more than just a little. And yes, you totally earned your sweet points.

    Description…

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Line_001

An incredibly enthralling and wickedly delicious sequel, SWEET PERIL takes readers on an emotional roller coaster ride that will leave them breathless. Full of surprises and heart-stopping thrills, this second book in the series turns up the heat, ratchets up the danger and intensifies the chemistry between its characters, making this installment an even more electrifying and riveting read than its predecessor.

With the Dukes still on edge, Anna Whitt has been playing the role she needs to play in order to keep their suspicions at bay. She’s also been keeping her distance from Kaidan Rowe, a challenge that makes pretending to be a party girl look easy.

But when she learns of a prophecy that allows for the possibility that someday the Nephilim could finally be free, she is eager to make that possibility a reality.

Finding allies willing to stand with her against the Dukes is a huge risk, but one she’s prepared to take if it means that there could be a future for her and Kai. It’s a task that requires time and an enormous amount of patience. Because tracking down Neph that can be trusted is not something she can do on her own. Not if she wants to stay off the Dukes’ radar.

Which means she’ll have to enlist the help of her father, Belial. She’ll have to work closely with Kopano, the only other Neph whose father won’t be keeping a close watch.

And she’ll have to deal with the fact that doing this on her own, without Kai, could increase the distance between them, a distance made up of much more than just miles.

Author Wendy Higgins knows just how to captivate readers and draw them into her wonderfully dark and incredibly suspenseful story. She builds on the existing tension between her two main characters. She introduces obstacles that not only keep them apart but that could make that separation permanent. She elevates the dangers they must face.

And she infuses her story with all the elements that will make readers swoon, sigh, scream in frustration, bite their nails and hold their breath in anticipation for what is to come – heartbreak, loss, love, jealousy, angst.

Her characters are diverse. Their interactions tantalizing, terrifying, comforting, intense or some combination thereof. And their individuality, their uniqueness and the dynamic they bring serve to set this story apart.

SWEET PERIL is even more exhilarating, nerve-wracking and heartbreaking than the first book in the trilogy. And with the explosive chemistry the author built up between Anna and Kaidan in this sequel, it is far more steamy.

Dark. Danger-filled. Intoxicating. SWEET PERIL is an absolute must-read in author Wendy Higgins’ Sweet Trilogy.

    Reviewer gives this book…

    06menu

Like In-N-Out Burger‘s infamous secret menu this one deserves my off-the-menu 6 star rating.

    On a personal note…

Oh. My. Gosh. Ohmygosh. ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh. Oh my gosh!

I knew I shouldn’t have read this early. I knew I should have waited until the night before the third book in this series was going to be released before I picked up SWEET PERIL. I knew I would be driven crazy if I had to wait for the final book in the series. I KNEW IT!

I waited as long as I possibly could. I really tried. But I finally caved. I didn’t even make it until SWEET PERIL’s release date. And now I’m living in a state of complete and utter torment. I must know what’s going to happen next. I don’t know how I can possibly survive the long wait for June 2014 to roll around to find out how this series ends.

    Because, oh my gosh. Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh.

And no, I’m not being overly dramatic. I am in fact dying to know just what is going to happen in SWEET RECKNONING. Especially after the Dukes’ little pow wow. Especially after what Kaidan said… non-verbally. Especially after everything that happened and everything that the next book promises will happen.

SWEET PERIL was amazing. I didn’t think the author could top what she did with the road trip, but she did. With that one scene where… okay, no spoilers. But it was H.O.T. And if I thought she reached her maximum ability to make me all twisty inside in SWEET EVIL I was so very wrong.

I spent most of the entire book in knots. On a roller coaster. Without a safety belt. Yeah. It was that awesome. And a whole lot more.

Because its awesomeness wasn’t just due to the sizzling chemistry. For starters, there was the suspense. Oh my gosh the suspense. The suspense nearly did away with me. And it wasn’t just because of what was going on with Anna and Kaidan.

I was in suspense about what might happen between Anna and Kope. I was in suspense about what would happen with that piece of information Anna received. I was in suspense about what the Dukes might do at any given time.

But what nearly killed me was that very long, incredibly suspenseful scene toward the end of the book that had me holding my breath. For nearly the entire scene. Yes, I had to read quickly. Really quickly.

And then there was the heartbreak. Which also didn’t just involve Anna and Kai. I completely lost it after one particularly heartbreaking scene. A scene I read with fingers and toes crossed, hoping until the very end that all would be well, only to have my heart crushed.

So, yes, there was tension, suspense, heartbreak. And there was an exciting storyline to tie all of those deliciously torturous elements together. Which made this sequel a must, must, must read.

I could go on. And on. And on. But I probably shouldn’t. I already feel as if I revealed every detail of this story. Hopefully I’ve been vague.

I will just say that I love the direction this story took. It definitely moved the plot forward. And it definitely feels like it was setting this series up for a dramatic finish in the next book.

All the pieces are in place for an epic conclusion. All that remains to be determined is who will end up victorious and who will fall along the way. It sounds so simple, but I just know the ride will be a crazy one. And I am terrified the author will break my heart into a million pieces.

Though she already broke it a few times in SWEET PERIL, she was successful in mending it by the story’s end.

I didn’t think I could love her main characters more than I did, but I do. I didn’t think I could detest the Dukes more than I had, but they became even more despicable in this sequel. And I didn’t think I could become as engrossed in this story when a large part of it didn’t include Kaidan Rowe.

But I was. I was totally consumed by this story. Because even though Kai might not have been in every scene, somehow he was. His presence could always be felt. In every decision Anna made, every thought, every action.

I fell in love with this series the moment I met its characters and my love for it has only grown stronger after reading SWEET PERIL. To say that I’m mildly obsessed would be an understatement.

    Favorite passage…

Okay, there’s no way I could include any of my most favorite passages here. They’re all best discovered in the story itself. If I were to give a peek at just what happened on ARC pgs. 218, 246, 254, 261, 278 and 336 I’d ruin everything.

But there were two passages toward the beginning that I loved. One of which is swoon-y, the other just makes me grin. And nod my head fiercely.

I found myself wondering if Kaidan ever went to the movies. Did he take girls and sit in the very back where it was dark and private? I crossed my legs and arms, then glared at the screen. Sometimes an imagination was an impediment.

This review is based on an ARC I received from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
