THE REMEDY Blog Tour: Interview with Suzanne Young + Giveaway

    theremedy

I am absolutely thrilled beyond belief to be today’s stop on THE REMEDY Blog Tour. I recently devoured this series – yes it’s totally binge-worthy – and am now officially addicted and a fan for life. This world is incredible and chilling and awesome.

And this prequel novel is every bit as amazing as THE PROGRAM, THE TREATMENT and THE RECOVERY. I gave THE REMEDY my off-the-menu 6-star rating, it was just that spectacular.

So, of course I was super excited to be able to interview Suzanne Young for my stop today and ask her about Quinn, whether she prefers to write duologies or trilogies, who her favorite character is, and what it is like to be a House Hunters celeb.

If you’d like to know what she had to say to those questions and a few others, scroll down to the interview which follows below the information about THE REMEDY. If you want to check out a few – or all – of the stops on the tour, the schedule is at the bottom of this post.

And if you’d like the chance to win some amazing bookish prizes, be sure to enter in the Rafflecopter before you go.

THE REMEDY releases next week on April 21st, so be sure to pre-order your copy so you won’t have to wait to dive in. And if you are new to the series, you don’t have to have read THE PROGRAM or THE TREATMENT to thoroughly enjoy it, though you might miss a few of those “aha” and “Oh. My. Gosh.” and “nowaynofreakingway” moments.

In a world before The Program…

Quinlan McKee is a closer. Since the age of seven, Quinn has held the responsibility of providing closure to grieving families with a special skill—she can “become” anyone.

Recommended by grief counselors, Quinn is hired by families to take on the short-term role of a deceased loved one between the ages of fifteen and twenty. She’s not an exact copy, of course, but she wears their clothes and changes her hair, studies them through pictures and videos, and soon, Quinn can act like them, smell like them, and be them for all intents and purposes. But to do her job successfully, she can’t get attached.

Now seventeen, Quinn is deft at recreating herself, sometimes confusing her own past with those of the people she’s portrayed. When she’s given her longest assignment, playing the role of Catalina Barnes, Quinn begins to bond with the deceased girl’s boyfriend. But that’s only the beginning of the complications, especially when Quinn finds out the truth about Catalina’s death. And the epidemic it could start.

    The Interview

    Q. If you had to describe THE REMEDY in 25 words or less, how would you describe it?

THE REMEDY is about identity, grief, and loss. It’s about the lengths people will go to stop feeling pain. And the cost of that kind of closure.

    Q. What was your favorite part about inventing a world prior to that in The Program and what were some of the challenges of developing the world?

I loved being able to start fresh with the characters, but keep that same sort of “other” feel to the reality. The toughest part, though, was tying it in to The Program without retelling the same story. I think I succeeded in making this its own series, but that was a challenge.

    Q. For those who haven’t yet met Quinn what would you say her best quality/qualities are? And her worst?

I think her best quality is her empathy—she uses it to help people find closure. Her worst quality is her trusting nature, at least, that’s a terrible quality if you’re a character in one of my novels.

    Q. Being a closer sounds like an incredibly difficult job. Especially with the requirement that in order to be successful you can’t become attached. What is it about Quinn that made her so successful at her job for such a long time?

I think the reason Quinn is so great at her job is because she DOES care. She believes in what she does. She truly wants to help people. I also think she’s been trained since she was a child, and she uses those techniques with skill.

    Q. Across all your books, which character was your favorite to write about and why?

I really loved writing Dallas. I thought she was terribly complicated, and I loved discovering more about her.

    Q. What do you enjoy most about writing books in a series? And when it comes to a series, do you prefer writing a duology or a trilogy? And why?

I prefer a duology because I like to write every book like it’s going to end, and with a trilogy, I find I get stuck in the middle book. It’s nice to write a series because by the second book, you know the characters so well. You can get to the meat of the story.

    Q. What was it like being on House Hunters? (You were totally amazing by the way!) Would you change anything about your TV debut? And after it aired, what has the outreach been like?

I would stop talking smack about desert landscaping! haha To be honest, it’s TV. That was an angle they could hit over and over. I don’t actually despise desert landscaping! I love my cactus! And I’m aware that I no longer live in Oregon.

The outreach has been pretty cool! I received a bunch of messages, most of them positive. Although I did have one person tell me they got my book because of the show, but stopped reading it because it wasn’t appropriate. I was like… Sorry?

Fiktshun: Okay, I have to chime in about the House Hunters response. Now, of course, I have to go back and count how often you talk about desert landscaping because I hadn’t noticed there was smack talk involved! 🙂

And it was such fun to watch, I can imagine you have quite a few new readers because of your television celebrity status. But I am totally baffled about the appropriateness comment… or why that person felt the need to share that…

Note: This review is based on an eARC received from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book.

    The Review

Amazing, surprising, heartbreaking, suspenseful, sinister. THE REMEDY is an absolutely riveting story that will draw readers into a world where closers – or replacements – are used to help those suffering from loss move past their grief. It’s a richly layered story filled with unexpected plot twists, shocking revelations, disturbing realities, conspiracies, secrets and lies.

It’s a page-turner of a read that promises chills, tears, trepidation, anticipation and excitement. It’s a must read for fans of the series and new readers alike.

Even with the heavy toll it took on her, Quinn McKee liked being a closer. She liked knowing that she could help families get over losing their loved ones. She liked being a part of those families even if it was just temporary. She liked becoming someone else even if it meant losing herself for a while.

But when her latest assignment comes so soon after her last, promises to be even more challenging, and is to be the longest one she’ll have ever been on, she’s worried about losing herself completely. Especially when she learns that it’s not just the parents of the girl she’ll be replacing that she needs to help, but the boyfriend who loves her. And that she’ll be more exposed to those who despise what she does. And that there are things about this assignment that are being kept from her – things that threaten to change everything.

Suzanne Young has brought all that was deliciously dark and disturbing and inventive and thought-provoking from her other books in this series to THE REMEDY. She introduces new characters, with fascinating new roles, places them in a world that is familiar yet different, and at a time that precedes the events in her other stories.

She puts her main character Quinn’s strength and emotional stability to the test. She drops hints that things may not be as they seem. She gives readers a sense of foreboding about what is to come. And she delivers an ending that will be jaw-dropping even to those who see it coming.

THE REMEDY is yet another incredibly imaginative story in this series where something designed to be helpful is in reality more harmful, where good intentions are corrupted by hidden motivations, and where deception and betrayal ensure that no one can be trusted.

It is a story that can be read as an introduction to the series and its characters or one that will return readers to the world before The Program, where it all began. But whether new to the series or an existing fan, it will be a captivating, thrilling, edge-of-your-seat read that will leave readers desperate for the the next installment.

    bookwatchRELEASE

Below are the (mostly) YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of April 29th-May 5th that I have pre-ordered.

    AddtoGoodreads

SWEET RECKONING by Wendy Higgins releases in the U.S. today, April 29, 2014 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 400 pages.

SWEET RECKONING is the third and final book in Author Wendy Higgins’ Sweet Trilogy.

    divider2

I am so excited that today is SWEET RECKONING‘s release date and that everyone will get the chance to read this final installment in the series. I love this series and was so sad to say goodbye to it when I read this book a few months ago. But I am happy that the finished copy arrives today in both print and eBook formats.

I know exactly how this story ends, so I can’t speculate about what happens in this book. But it has swoon-y romance, with all sorts of Kaidan Rowe yumminess, action and an exciting build to the finish.

I love that the description uses the term “sensual” to describe this book, though I might have used the word “sexy” instead. Because this book is definitely sexy and a totally delectable read.

As I have read SWEET RECKONING, I won’t be adding it to the pile in the coming months. But I definitely plan on doing a series re-read, as I’d love to be able to read it in its entirety all at once.

    Description…

    It’s time.

Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.

The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.

In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.

SLEEP NO MORE by Aprilynne Pike releases in the U.S. today, April 29, 2014, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 352 pages.

    divider2

I am so excited that SLEEP NO MORE releases today and that the finished copy (hopefully) has downloaded to my Kindle. While I had an early copy, I wasn’t able to read it pre-release, but I can’t wait to read the finished version.

I am very much in the mood for a thriller, especially one the description promises is like Inception and Wake. And as I love Aprilynne Pike’s writing, imagination and creativity, I can’t wait to meet Charlotte and find out whether she’s willing to risk everything to catch a killer.

As I currently have a few books on the pile that I must read early this month, I might not get this on the pile until mid-May, but I definitely plan on adding it then.

    Description…

The blockbuster film Inception meets Lisa McMann’s Wake trilogy in this dark paranormal thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Aprilynne Pike. This novel is also perfect for fans of Kelley Armstrong, Alyson Noel, and Kimberly Derting.

Charlotte Westing has a gift. She is an Oracle and has the ability to tell the future. But it doesn’t do her much good. Instead of using their miraculous power, modern-day Oracles are told to fight their visions—to refrain from interfering. And Charlotte knows the price of breaking the rules. She sees it every day in her wheelchair-bound mother and the absence of her father. But when a premonition of a classmate’s death is too strong for her to ignore, Charlotte is forced to make an impossible decision: continue following the rules or risk everything—even her sanity—to stop the serial killer who is stalking her town.

TEASE by Amanda Maciel releases in the U.S. today, April 29, 2014, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 336 pages.

    divider2

TEASE was an unexpected read, but one I absolutely loved and I’m so excited that the finished eBook will be added to my collection today. I got the chance to read it early, and then did because I was invited to be on the tour. And I’m so glad I did, because it’s a story not to be missed.

It’s not a typical bullying story where “good” and “evil” are clearly defined traits. It’s not a story where you completely love or hate the major players. And it’s not told from the POV of the character being bullied.

The writing is fantastic, the story is captivating and it really makes you think. I think it’s an important story, one that allows you to see beyond hatred or sympathy, and see that not everything is so cut and dry, but that the choices we make have consequences, whether we are the victim or the bully.

As I just recently read TEASE I’m not adding it to the pile just now, but it will definitely be a story I’ll re-read again someday.

    Description…

From debut author Amanda Maciel comes a provocative and unforgettable novel, inspired by real-life incidents, about a teenage girl who faces criminal charges for bullying after a classmate commits suicide.

Emma Putnam is dead, and it’s all Sara Wharton’s fault. At least, that’s what everyone seems to think. Sara, along with her best friend and three other classmates, has been criminally charged for the bullying and harassment that led to Emma’s shocking suicide. Now Sara is the one who’s ostracized, already guilty according to her peers, the community, and the media. In the summer before her senior year, in between meetings with lawyers and a court-recommended therapist, Sara is forced to reflect on the events that brought her to this moment—and ultimately consider her own role in an undeniable tragedy. And she’ll have to find a way to move forward, even when it feels like her own life is over.

With its powerful narrative, unconventional point of view, and strong anti-bullying theme, this coming-of-age story offers smart, insightful, and nuanced views on high school society, toxic friendships, and family relationships.

THE TAKING by Kimberly Derting releases in the U.S. today, April 29, 2014, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 368 pages.

THE TAKING is the first book in Author Kimberly Derting’s series of the same name. The second and third books in the series are currently untitled.

    divider2

I have had THE TAKING pre-ordered forever and I’m excited for its release today. While I hadn’t had the chance to finish reading it before its release, I will be picking it back up in the next couple of weeks, so I can find out exactly what happened to Kyra. Though I’ll probably switch to the finished version when I do.

The concept for this story is what drew me in. The idea that someone can go missing for years, with no memory of what happened, totally freaks me out. The fact that everything changed, except for Kyra, and that everyone moved on with their lives, is a situation I don’t think I’d ever be able to wrap my head around if I were her.

As I’m one-third of the way through, I know a little bit about what Kyra’s life is like now, but I still have no clue what happened, where she was, and where this story leads. So I am super curious to find out and plan on doing so next week or the week thereafter at the latest as I don’t want to accidentally stumble upon any spoilers.

    Description…

    A flash of white light . . . and then . . . nothing.

When sixteen-year-old Kyra Agnew wakes up behind a Dumpster at the Gas ’n’ Sip, she has no memory of how she got there. With a terrible headache and a major case of déjà vu, she heads home only to discover that five years have passed . . . yet she hasn’t aged a day.

Everything else about Kyra’s old life is different. Her parents are divorced, her boyfriend, Austin, is in college and dating her best friend, and her dad has changed from an uptight neat-freak to a drunken conspiracy theorist who blames her five-year disappearance on little green men.

Confused and lost, Kyra isn’t sure how to move forward unless she uncovers the truth. With Austin gone, she turns to Tyler, Austin’s annoying kid brother, who is now seventeen and who she has a sudden undeniable attraction to. As Tyler and Kyra retrace her steps from the fateful night of her disappearance, they discover strange phenomena that no one can explain, and they begin to wonder if Kyra’s father is not as crazy as he seems. Description:

Catherine Summer Carlson knows how to manage bands like a professional—she’s a student at the PopArts Academy at Mount Hope High, where rock legends Allegiance to North got their start. Summer knows that falling for the lead singer of her latest band is the least professional thing a manager can do. But Caleb Daniels isn’t an ordinary band boy—he’s a hot, dreamy, sweet-singing, exiled-from-his-old-band, possibly-with-a-deep-dark-side band boy. And he can do that thing. That thing when someone sings a song and it inhabits you, possesses you, and moves you like a marionette to its will.

Summer also finds herself at the center of a mystery she never saw coming. When Caleb reveals a secret about his long-lost father, one band’s past becomes another’s present, and Summer finds it harder and harder to be both band manager and girlfriend. She knows what the well-mannered Catherine side of her would do, but she also knows what her heart is telling her. Maybe it’s time to accept who she really is, even if it means becoming an exile herself. . . .

It’s a fantastic week for releases this week, yet I clearly fell behind on pre-orders, otherwise I would have already purchased THE TREATMENT and IN THE SHADOWS, something I plan on doing the moment I finish writing up this post.

I am so excited for the release of SWEET RECKONING, which was a bittersweet read for me as I didn’t want to have to say goodbye to Anna and Kai. But I can’t wait to see what the author has in the pipeline.

I am also tempted to purchase SCAN, which is not my normal genre to read, but having read just a bit of the ARC, I think it’s a book I want to add to my collection.

I’m not sure if I missed any books this week or last. I haven’t had a moment to check last week’s downloads or this week’s. But hopefully I haven’t and that all the books I’ve listed above are it. Otherwise I may end up having a few more books I need to add to the collection. We shall see….

Anyway… if you haven’t yet read SWEET RECKONING, I hope saying goodbye isn’t too difficult. And if there are a few other books you’ve been pining for that are releasing this week, I’m glad the wait has finally ended.

Happy release week to some lovely books and I hope you have a very happy reading week.

    divider1

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #139

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of August 27th-September 2nd that I have pre-ordered.

    Crown of Midnight

    addtogoodreads

CROWN OF MIDNIGHT by Sarah J. Maas will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Bloomsbury USA Childrens, the print edition is 432 pages.

CROWN OF MIDNIGHT is the second full-length book in author Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series. The third through sixth full-length books, currently untitled, are slated for release in 2014 through 2017.

    Line_001

I cannot wait for the release of CROWN OF MIDNIGHT by Sarah J. Maas on Tuesday. I own all of the previous books in the series, including the novellas, and I’m totally stoked that this latest installment in the series will be added to my collection this week.

I have heard this sequel is even more amazing than the first book in the series and I’m excited to see what happens with Celaena now that she’s the new royal assassin. The description hints that she’s going to have to have to make a choice. I only hope it isn’t between Prince Dorian and Captain Westfall.

I really wanted to read this book before its release, as I had an eARC, but I wasn’t able to. Though I will definitely be reading it next week as I am dying to find out what happens in this sequel.

    The Bitter Kingdom

    addtogoodreads

THE BITTER KINGDOM by Rae Carson will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Greenwillow Books, the print edition is 448 pages.

THE BITTER KINGDOM is the third and final full-length book in author Rae Carson’s Fire and Thorns trilogy.

    Line_001

I cannot believe that release day is just about here for THE BITTER KINGDOM. I am reading the previous book in the series and hope to sneak this on the pile just after its release this week. But as it is a series-ending book I’m not trusting my ability to say goodbye to this awesome series.

The description calls this series epic, and I couldn’t agree more. I love the world that author Rae Carson built and I love Elisa and Hector.

I hope that this series has a happily ever after ending, though, given just how heartbreaking the events in book one were, I’m not entirely confident about that.

If I can’t get it on the pile later this week, I will definitely try to conquer my series-ending fears and read it next weekend. And I won’t take a peek at this book’s description until I finish THE CROWN OF EMBERS.

    Origin

    addtogoodreads

ORIGIN by Jennifer L. Armentrout will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in paperback and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Entangled Teen, the print edition is 400 pages.

ORIGIN is the fourth full-length book in author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series. The fifth book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2014.

    Line_001

I am so excited for the release of ORIGIN and can’t wait for it to download to my Kindle this week. I am a little bit behind on this series due to a mishap which involved reading the ending of book three and so I’m hoping that now that the fourth book in the series is out, the element of the unknown will motivate me to dive back in.

I love these characters and the author’s writing style. I am fascinated by the world. And as much as I want to take a peek at ORIGIN’s description, I refuse to, in the event I might potentially encounter another spoiler.

I feel like it’s been forever since I last read about Katy and Daemon and I hope that after things quiet down in mid-September I’ll be able to read both this book and the previous book, so that I can get caught up.

    The Beginning of Everything

    addtogoodreads

THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING by Robyn Schneider will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, the print edition is 352 pages.

    Line_001

I am totally stoked to finally get a copy of THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING. I’d hoped to get my hands on an early copy but then the release date changed and so did this book’s title. But the wait is almost over until I can finally take a peek at this story that’s intrigued me for quite a long while.

I am just so curious about Ezra and his theory about everyone having a tragedy waiting for them. His particular tragedy is very similar to someone I’ve known, so I already feel a connection with the story. But I cannot wait to meet Cassidy Thorpe, too.

The description calls this book “lyrical, witty, and heart-wrenching” and if it is all those things I just know I’ll fall madly in love with this story that I hope to be able to sneak onto the pile over Labor Day weekend.

    Consume

    addtogoodreads

CONSUME by Melissa Darnell will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 384 pages.

CONSUME is the third book in author Melissa Darnell’s Clann series.

    Line_001

Melissa Darnell’s Clann series is such a sweet and delightful read and I am thrilled to be able to add CONSUME to my collection this week. I had the chance to read this book just a bit early and it was just as entertaining as the previous books in the series.

As I have read it, I don’t want to talk about what happens with Tristan and Savannah in this installment. I won’t reveal just what happens with the Clann and the vampires. But it was a super quick and engaging read and a great addition to the series.

And with all the new YA books releasing this week, I’m so glad I had the chance to read this already and it won’t be stuck on an ever-expanding TBR pile.

    Deception

    addtogoodreads

DECEPTION by C.J. Redwine will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 480 pages.

DECEPTION is the second book in author C.J. Redwine’s Defiance series.

    Line_001

I love, love, love this series. I only just recently read DEFIANCE a month or two ago and am going to be reading DECEPTION on Monday and I cannot wait. I will probably switch from the printed ARC to my Kindle copy when it downloads at Monday Midnight so I can read that much faster.

I fell in love with Rachel and Logan’s story and the world that author C.J. Redwine created. Their story is captivating and heartbreaking and when I put DEFIANCE down I wished I’d had the sequel to dive right into.

Of course now that release day is just about here, I’m getting a bit nervous as to whether there is another book in the series and whether it will be that much more agonizing to wait an entire year for that book. Though I’m pretty sure it will.

My plan is to read this on Monday and even though it is a fairly lengthy book, I’m confident I’ll be able to finish it in one sitting, even if it means a late night read.

    DescendantCover

    addtogoodreads

DESCENDANT by Lesley Livingston will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 336 pages.

DESCENDANT is the second book in Lesley Livingston’s Starling series.

    Line_001

I am currently reading DESCENDANT and I will definitely have it read before it downloads to my Kindle on Monday Midnight. It was just so easy to fall back into this story and into this world of Norse mythologies, Mason Starling and the Fennrys Wolf.

I love Lesley Livingston’s stories and I immediately fell in love with the first book in this spin-off series that includes one of my most favorite characters from her Wondrous Strange series, Fenn. After that cliffhanger ending in STARLING, I didn’t think I’d survive the wait for DESCENDANT’s release. But thanks to a slightly early finished copy I didn’t have to wait quite as long.

Of course the longer it takes me to write this post, the longer I’ll have to wait to get back reading. So I will just say that this sequel sounds even more action-packed than the first, I am totally thrilled about the journey into the Underworld and I am super curious whether the ending of this second book in the series will leave me dangling off a cliff.

    The Liberator

    addtogoodreads

THE LIBERATOR by Victoria Scott will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Entangled Teen, the print edition is 352 pages.

THE LIBERATOR is the second book in author Victoria Scott’s Dante Walker series.

    Line_001

I am totally stoked that Dante… I mean THE LIBERATOR is releasing this week. I fell madly in love with the first book in the series and its adorable heroine and bad-boy hero – yes Dante is a hero.

I was lucky enough to get a peek at this story just a little bit early. And as I mentioned in My Reading Pile this past weekend I will be finishing this book on Tuesday. So this won’t be on the TBR pile for very long at all. Which is a good thing, as I don’t think that Dante has very much patience.

And as I spotlighted this in my Book Watch post a couple of weeks ago, I really don’t want to ramble on any longer. Especially as this post is super long with all the new releases that are being added to my collection this week and the many that are under consideration.

Besides, it’s Dante Walker, need I really say anything more?

    Don't Look Now

    addtogoodreads

DON’T LOOK NOW by Michelle Gagnon will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 336 pages.

DON’T LOOK NOW is the second full-length book in author Michelle Gagnon’s PERSEFoNE series.

    Line_001

I am super excited for the release of DON’T LOOK NOW, the second book in author Michelle Gagnon’s trilogy. While I haven’t yet had the chance to read the first book in the series, I do own it and the novella and I cannot wait to add this book to my collection this week.

This series sounds totally like my kind of read – packed with action, danger, thrills and excitement. And I cannot wait to finally meat Noa and Peter.

As I haven’t yet read the first book in the series I tried hard not to look too closely at this sequel’s description, but I did catch the very bold words “jaw-dropping” when I was grabbing the book’s link on Goodreads. Which made me that much more interested in meeting the characters and discovering this story for myself.

I am still going to try and hold out until closer to the release date for the third book in the series before I dive into these books. But I have a feeling that I’ll only last until October before my curiosity gets the best of me.

    The Fall of Five

    addtogoodreads

THE FALL OF FIVE by Pittacus Lore will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 416 pages.

THE FALL OF FIVE is the fourth full-length book in the Lorien Legacies.

    Line_001

I cannot believe that THE FALL OF FIVE, the fourth book in this series, is releasing this week. I pre-ordered a copy for my Kindle the second I saw it on Amazon even though I’m officially so far behind on this series that I really shouldn’t buy another installment without catching up.

And while I’ve only read the first book in this series and part of the second, I have taken a peek at each and every description. And I’m not going to change my approach for this fourth book.

I love that this installment has all six survivors banding together to defeat their enemy. I love that they’re going to try and “master their Legacies” so that they stand a chance against the Mogadorians. And I am curious to find out whether Number Five’s sign is really a trap and whether the Garde will be able to find Five “before it’s too late.”

The description promises that the Lorien will rise again. It promises that they will not lose the war. I am hoping that this installment lives up to its promises. And I’m hoping to be able to finally catch up on this series before the next installment is released.

    The Dark Between

    addtogoodreads

THE DARK BETWEEN by Sonia Gensler will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Knopf Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 352 pages.

    Line_001

When I saw Sonia Gensler’s latest release, THE DARK BETWEEN, available for pre-order I immediately clicked to order it for my Kindle. In addition to the awesome title and the super creepy cover, the book’s description sounded amazing.

I love the early twentieth century setting. I love that this story is dubbed “[a] supernatural romance about the powers that lie in the shadows of the mind.” And I can’t wait to meet Elsie, Kate and Asher and find out whether it’s a villain or something “otherworldly” that is responsible for the dead body they discover.

I am always totally creeped out by stories of ghosts and spirits, in a good way, of course. And the idea that there may be something more to this story has me intrigued.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get this on the pile in September, but this sounds like a perfect story to read at the end of October.

    Here Without You

    addtogoodreads

HERE WITHOUT YOU by Tammara Webber will be released in the U.S. on August 27, 2013 in paperback format and was previously released in eBook format on August 6th. It is currently available to pre-order online at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE in paperback format and is available to order online now in eBook format.

Self-published, the print edition is 252 pages.

HERE WITHOUT YOU is the fourth and final book in author Tammara Webber’s Between the Lines series.

    Line_001

I had no idea until the week prior to the eBook release of HERE WITHOUT YOU that Tammara Webber was concluding her Between the Lines series. And while I already have the Kindle copy in my collection, I’ve been trying to list releases based upon their print release date. Which is why I’m just posting about this now.

This series is amazing. I knew from the moment I read the first book in the series that this author was insanely talented. She had such a way with words and gave me a story – and series – that blew me away. I did not expect the layers of depth in her story, I did not expect to make such a strong emotional connection to it. But I did.

I thought it was just going to be a light and fun series, but it was dramatic and heart-wrenching and gorgeous.

I have not yet read this final installment to the series. It is one of those series I don’t want to see end. Just thinking about the fact that I’ll have to say goodbye to these characters is making me teary-eyed.

So I’m not sure when I’m going to be able to say goodbye to it. Even though I am super curious about what happens with Reid and Dori. But I am hopeful I’ll get the courage up later this fall.

As this post is insanely long already I’m going to keep this section brief. Or at least I’ll try to be brief….

I can’t believe I will be the owner of all twelve releases I’ve spotlighted by Monday Midnight. This makes me both excited and nervous about the size of my TBR pile.

And with twenty-one other books releasing this week that caught my eye, I’m thinking I should have budgeted just a little bit more for books this week, as I just know I’ll be clicking to buy a few of them.

While next week may not be as “bad” as this week, I know of at least six books I’m adding to my collection next week already. So it’s very possible I have just as many, if not more, books pre-ordered that will be releasing next week. *GULP.*

Fortunately I have read one of the books releasing this week already, and will hopefully have four others read by the end of the week. But that, for now, remains to be determined.

    Anyway….

I promised to keep this short – for me – so I will just end by saying that I hope you have a few books, or more, releasing this week that will be added to your collection. And I hope that your TBR pile won’t be quite as crazy as mine will be over the next two or three weeks.

And if there is a YA title I’ve missed, please let me know in the comments… though I’ll be a little scared if there is.

As ever, happy reading and happy book buying!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #122

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of April 30th-May 6th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    ***Not a YA title***

    Oath Bound
    addtogoodreads

OATH BOUND by Rachel Vincent will be released in the U.S. on April 30, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and in paperback format at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin MIRA, the print edition is 432 pages.

OATH BOUND is the third and final book in the Unbound series by author Rachel Vincent.

    Line_001

I am so excited for the release of OATH BOUND. I feel like I’ve waited for ages and ages to read Sera and Kris’ story. And I will be reading it the second my pre-order copy downloads to my Kindle.

As much as I would love this series to go on for a couple more books… at least… I can’t wait to see how everything wraps up for Liv and Cam, Kori and Ian. I’m curious to see just what happens to the Syndicates. And I’m super curious about what Skill Sera has.

And as difficult as it will be to say goodbye to yet another series by author Rachel Vincent, I can’t make myself wait to read it. I am such a huge fan of this series and its characters. I love the fact that with each book I get a different view of the world, get to meet new characters and learn about their different abilities. And I love that with each book the overarching plot moves just a little bit farther forward.

The wait has been torturous. Especially with the author’s Facebook comments throughout the writing process. But I am so glad to finally get the chance to dive into this last installment in this amazing series.

    The Eternity Cure

    addtogoodreads

THE ETERNITY CURE by Julie Kagawa will be released in the U.S. on April 30, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 448 pages.

THE ETERNITY CURE is the second book in author Julie Kagawa’s Blood of Eden series. No information is yet available about the third book in the series.

    Line_001

I may be a new fan of this series, but I am officially an obsessed fan. And I am so unbelievably excited for THE ETERNITY CURE’s release this week. Because that means that the next book in this series is that much closer to its release date.

I got the chance to read THE ETERNITY CURE just a little bit early thanks to the publisher and NetGalley and I thought it was totally amazing. (My Review.) I loved the first book in the series but this sequel was seriously epic. And now I am dying to continue the story and find out just what happens after that killer ending.

The world was even darker in this sequel. The threats were even more deadly. And the love story was way more heartbreaking.

While I won’t be re-reading this book on release day, I do plan on re-reading it. And I’m so thrilled that the finished copy will be downloading to my Kindle this week and that it will join THE IMMORTAL RULES as part of my permanent collection.

    Sweet Peril Cover

    addtogoodreads

SWEET PERIL by Wendy Higgins will be released in the U.S. on April 30, 2013 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in print and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 384 pages.

SWEET PERIL is the second book in Wendy Higgins’ The Sweet Trilogy. The third book in the series, SWEET RECKONING, is slated for release in June 2014.

    Line_001

I cannot believe that the release date for SWEET PERIL is finally almost here. I held off reading the early review copy I had for as long as possible because I know just how torturous the wait is for the next book’s release.

Well I read it. And it’s all sorts of awesome. And I desperately want to re-read it right this minute. Or when my finished copy downloads to my Kindle on Monday Midnight. Because I am definitely not ready to disconnect from the story and leave the world. And I am absolutely not ready to begin suffering the agonizingly long wait for the final book in this series.

As I will be posting my review in the next couple of days and I already spotlighted SWEET PERIL for my Book Watch post a few weeks ago, I won’t go on and on here. But I will just quickly say that this book was every bit as exciting as the first book in the series. There was just as much heat… okay, there was a lot more…. The suspense was killer. And the chemistry sizzled.

Yes, I am still swooning over Kaidan Rowe.

    Life After Theft

    addtogoodreads

LIFE AFTER THEFT by Aprilynne Pike will be released in the U.S. on April 30, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 352 pages.

    Line_001

I am a huge fan of author Aprilynne Pike and when I heard about her standalone novel, LIFE AFTER THEFT, I just had to pre-order a copy. While I did receive an eARC for review, I didn’t get the chance to read it before release date, so I will be reading my finished copy instead.

But this book sounds like so much fun. I love modern retellings. And I am so very curious to see what the author did with The Scarlet Pimpernel in her novel.

I can’t wait to meet Jeff and Kimberlee and see just what her “unfinished business” is. And the fact that her haunting is dubbed snarky makes me that much more excited to read it.

While I won’t get the chance to add it to the pile this week or next, I will be reading it in May.

    The Program

    addtogoodreads

THE PROGRAM by Suzanne Young will be released in the U.S. on April 30, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 416 pages.

THE PROGRAM is the first book in a new series of the same name by author Suzanne Young.

    Line_001
I cannot believe I almost forgot to pre-order THE PROGRAM for my Kindle. I’d heard about this series months ago when it was making the rounds on the blogs and I thought it sounded awesome. But as it wasn’t yet available to pre-order in electronic format I had to wait.

Fortunately I didn’t miss its release and I cannot wait for it to download this week.

I’m so totally curious about this book. Sloane’s world sounds chilling. And the fact that The Program wipes people’s memories makes that solution to the suicide epidemic seem even more horrific than the problem.

A life where feelings have to be buried does not sound appealing. And the fact that Sloane and James are both beginning to suffer from depression makes their future seem bleak. Especially if they do have to enter The Program.

I definitely want to check this book out this week. Even if I don’t get the chance to move it to the top of the pile I just have to take a peek. And I hope to be able to read it in June if I can’t manage to sneak it in sooner.

And I’m still really curious about THE WARD. But for now I’m trying to show a little restraint and not impulse buy books that I won’t immediately get the chance to read.

Fortunately, even with five books pre-ordered, I won’t be adding too many books to the TBR pile since I’ve already read SWEET PERIL and THE ETERNITY CURE and I will be reading OATH BOUND when it releases. But as next week promises just as many new releases, if not more, and I haven’t read any of the books I have pre-ordered, it’s a good thing my reading pile gets a little bit of a respite this week.

Many of the books “of note” that I’ve listed are ones I hadn’t heard very much about. But those Point Horror books have piqued my curiosity so I’ll definitely have to stalk a few reviews to see if they’re books I should have in my collection.

    Anyway…

I hope I haven’t missed any amazing titles releasing this week. And I hope that if you are a fan of Rachel Vincent’s Unbound series, you won’t have as tough a time saying goodbye as I know I will.

But if there are a few books I should have on my radar, feel free to let me know in the comments. I’m always up for learning about new “must read” and “must buy” books.

And I’d love to hear what books releasing this week are ones you just have to have.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #78

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of June 26th-July 2nd that I have pre-ordered.

Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent will be released in the U.S. on June 26, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 352 pages.

Before I Wake is the sixth book in author Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series. The seventh and final book in the series, With All My Soul is slated for release on April 1, 2013.

The wait is almost over! Before I Wake releases on Tuesday. I’ve been waiting for the release date for this sixth book in the Soul Screamers series since June of 2011. And while I’ve already read this book twice, it doesn’t mean I’m not thrilled that it will officially be available on June 26th.

As I know what happens, I am not anxiously wondering about just what will. I am, however, already anxious about what will happen in the final book in the series. So as not to accidentally spoil anything, I will only say that the description for Before I Wake doesn’t even hint at the awesomeness of this book.

Yes, there is an old foe. Yes, the game most definitely has changed. Yes, safety is a huge problem. And no, I won’t reveal to which characters, especially as it might spoil If I Die for those who aren’t yet caught up on the series.

So you can bet that I’m thrilled that this book will be releasing tomorrow. I will be much happier reading it on my Kindle versus risking damaging the print edition any further. And I do plan on re-reading it. Maybe even later this week.

And it also means that I’ll officially be able to start the countdown for the final book in the series, With All My Soul.

A Want So Wicked by Suzanne Young will be released int he U.S. on June 26, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 288 pages.

A Want So Wicked is the sequel to author Suzanne Young’s A Need So Beautiful.

I really love the cover for A Want So Wicked, but that’s not why I have this sequel pre-ordered even though I haven’t yet read A Need So Beautiful. I heard that Suzanne Young’s first book in this series was amazing. I own it, I just haven’t had the chance to read it yet.

But as it’s gotten such high praise, I am confident I will love it and will want to immediately pick up this next book. And I wanted to have both in my collection to be able to do so.

I decided to take a peek at the description for this sequel since I won’t be reading it immediately and I heard the main character isn’t the same as in the first book. Thankfully my sources were right.

I’m definitely curious to meet Elise. The description makes what happens to her sound very intriguing. Waking up “with no idea who she is,” getting “flashes” of strangers’ lives, receiving warnings about “Shadows,” and getting caught in a love triangle.

And, with the possibility of her having a soul mate and some connection with the main character from the first book, I can’t wait to read A Want So Wicked to get answers. I really hope to get caught up on the series in August so that I can.

Wow, it’s another quiet release week. I thought I had more books pre-ordered for this week, but it seems I don’t. I think I thought it was a crazy release week because I am so super excited for Before I Wake’s release.

I am fairly certain I’m missing a few titles releasing this week as I haven’t been as up-to-date about pre-ordering books these past couple months as I have been in the past. Though I do have books pre-ordered into 2013 already.

I was right last week, too, that This Is Not a Test wouldn’t be sitting on my TBR pile too long. While I didn’t read it on Tuesday night, I did read it on Thursday and review it on Friday.

And while I have two books pre-ordered this week, only one is for the TBR pile, as I already read Before I Wake twice. Though it is on the TBRR pile. Because I think I need just one more read to get it out of my system. We’ll see….

I hope you have some exciting new books to add to your collection and will finally get to read those books you’ve been waiting an eternity to read. Happy reading!
