Welcome to the final day of the LOST CROW CONSPIRACY Blog Tour hosted by Rockstar Book Tours.

I am so excited to be a part of the tour and to share my thoughts about this second book in Author Rosalyn Eves’ Blood Rose Rebellion series. While I absolutely loved the first book in this series, I love, love, love LOST CROW CONSPIRACY.

And while I don’t share all the reasons why in my review – because that would be way too spoiler-y – I do list a few. So if you’d like to know what I thought, my review follows a bit further below.

If you’d like to know more about the author and each of the books in series, their information is also below – though you should definitely not read the description for LOST CROW CONSPIRACY if you haven’t yet read BLOOD ROSE REBELLION.

This tour includes a tour-wide giveaway for those with U.S. addresses. So if you want a chance to win an awesome prize, head down to the Rafflecopter for more details.

And if you’d like to check out the other stops on the tour, the schedule follows at the end of the post with direct links to all the stops.

Sixteen-year old Anna Arden was once just the magically barren girl from an elite Luminate family. Now she has broken the Binding–and Praetheria, the creatures held captive by the spell, wreak havoc across Europe. Lower-class citizens have access to magic for the first time, while other Luminates lose theirs forever. Austria and Hungary are at odds once more.

Anna thought the Praetheria were on her side, grateful to be free from the Binding. She thought her cousin Matyas’s blood sacrifice would bring peace, equality, justice. She thought her future looked like a society that would let her love a Romani boy, Gabor.

But with the Monarchy breathing down her neck and the Praetheria intimidating her at every turn, it seems the conspiracies have only just begun.

As threat of war sweeps the region, Anna quickly discovers she can’t solve everything on her own. Now there’s only one other person who might be able to save the country before war breaks out. The one person Anna was sure she’d never see again. A bandit. A fellow outlaw. A man known as the King of Crows. Matyas.

NOTE: This review is based on an ARC received from the publisher in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book. A Kindle eCopy was purchased for my collection.

    The Review

LOST CROW CONSPIRACY is everything you could want in a sequel and so much more. It is action-packed, edge-of-your-seat exciting, suspense-filled, and full of surprises. Magical beings, spell-casting and spell-breaking, hidden agendas, manipulation, betrayal, injustice, fierce battles, and a touch of romance make this installment riveting.

The story picks up shortly after the events in the first book in the series. And while things may seem to have settled down following the rebellion, the reality is quite different. The shift in magic has left many uneasy or angry. The fear of the unknown and of the praetheria has the decision-makers on edge. The now-free Hungary has caused power struggles among the countries looking to expand their empires and has presented opportunities for those looking to lead. And a new, even deadlier threat is on the horizon.

Anna thought she made the right decision when she chose to break the Binding, releasing the magic and freeing the praetheria. Even with what it cost her and with the secrets she had to keep. But her Hungary wasn’t as free as she thought it was. The beings she unleashed on the world might not be as benevolent. The Congress wasn’t as open-minded as she would have hoped. And she may have put herself in a position where she’d have to choose duty, responsibility, country over love.

Author Rosalyn Eves did not let up on the intensity in this second book in her series. She added more battles, more chases and escapes, more fascinating beings, more magical abilities, and many more threats and dangers. She continued to make a connection to the events, people, and climate of the time. She touched on issues of women’s rights and equality. She developed Anna into even more of a strong female lead.

LOST CROW CONSPIRACY is the perfect follow-up to BLOOD ROSE REBELLION. It has a faster pace. It has a whole host of new and interesting issues and characters. It advances the storyline in different and unexpected ways. It offers dual points-of-view that give a peek at very separate and distinct parts of the world. And it sets things up and teases things to come in the third installment in the series.

Thrilling, nail-biting, at times inciting, and completely all-consuming, LOST CROW CONSPIRACY is an absolute must.

The thrilling first book in a YA fantasy trilogy for fans of Red Queen. In a world where social prestige derives from a trifecta of blood, money, and magic, one girl has the ability to break the spell that holds the social order in place.

Sixteen-year-old Anna Arden is barred from society by a defect of blood. Though her family is part of the Luminate, powerful users of magic, she is Barren, unable to perform the simplest spells. Anna would do anything to belong. But her fate takes another course when, after inadvertently breaking her sister’s debutante spell—an important chance for a highborn young woman to show her prowess with magic—Anna finds herself exiled to her family’s once powerful but now crumbling native Hungary.

Her life might well be over.

In Hungary, Anna discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Not the people around her, from her aloof cousin Noémi to the fierce and handsome Romani Gábor. Not the society she’s known all her life, for discontent with the Luminate is sweeping the land. And not her lack of magic. Isolated from the only world she cares about, Anna still can’t seem to stop herself from breaking spells.

As rebellion spreads across the region, Anna’s unique ability becomes the catalyst everyone is seeking. In the company of nobles, revolutionaries, and Romani, Anna must choose: deny her unique power and cling to the life she’s always wanted, or embrace her ability and change that world forever.

What Lada needs is her younger brother Radu’s subtlety and skill. But Mehmed has sent him to Constantinople—and it’s no diplomatic mission. Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines Radu longs for his sister’s fierce confidence—but for the first time in his life, he rejects her unexpected plea for help. Torn between loyalties to faith, to the Ottomans, and to Mehmed, he knows he owes Lada nothing. If she dies, he could never forgive himself—but if he fails in Constantinople, will Mehmed ever forgive him?

    The Review

NOW I RISE is the epic and gripping and action-packed sequel in this already amazing series that reimagines the history of Vlad the Impaler in a most original way. Filled to the brim with bloody battles, political maneuvering, difficult choices, devastating losses, and crushing betrayal, it is an enthralling and intense and unputdownable read.

It is not a story for the faint of heart. It blurs the lines between good and evil, right and wrong, heroes and villains. It confronts head-on a number of tough subjects – religion, equality, sexual orientation, assault. It shows that sometimes the only way to a better future is through violence, manipulation, sacrifice. But it also shows what choosing this path costs.

Lada did not regret her choice to leave Mehmed in order to attempt to take back her Wallachia. Being a part of the sultan’s harem was not an option. Constantinople was not her dream. She had to pursue her own goals, even if it meant doing so without him by her side and without her brother Radu, whose skills would have been an asset in her quest to become prince.

However much she missed them both, she would not be distracted from what she desired most. And even without Radu’s gift for diplomacy, she was determined to reclaim her land, by whatever violent means necessary.

With Lada out of the way, Radu hoped that Mehmed would finally see how he felt and would return his affections. But his use as a spy meant first distancing himself from his sultan and then leaving for Constantinople.

The danger would be great, but his loyalty to and love for Mehmed made it worth the risk. Though with every day that passed, he was less certain of the righteousness, effectiveness, and goodness of his own actions. He was less clear about his relationship with Mehmed. He was less confident about who his enemies really were.

Kiersten White did a masterful job with this second book in the series. It does not suffer from middle book syndrome in the least. It is even more riveting than its predecessor, even more thought-provoking, even more exciting.

Alternating between Lada and Radu’s points of view allows for even more action, suspense, tension. It emphasizes the differences between Lada’s ruthless and almost remorseless approach to achieving her objectives and Radu’s more balanced but conflicted approach toward reaching his.

There is no shortage of bloodshed, pride, or greed. There is no room for weakness. There are no simple solutions. There is heartbreak, defeat, devotion, faith, and undying love. All of which make NOW I RISE a significant and extraordinary and incredibly memorable must-read.

NO ONE EXPECTS A PRINCESS TO BE BRUTAL. And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets.

Lada despises the Ottomans and bides her time, planning her vengeance for the day when she can return to Wallachia and claim her birthright. Radu longs only for a place where he feels safe. And when they meet Mehmed, the defiant and lonely son of the sultan, who’s expected to rule a nation, Radu feels that he’s made a true friend—and Lada wonders if she’s finally found someone worthy of her passion.

But Mehmed is heir to the very empire that Lada has sworn to fight against—and that Radu now considers home. Together, Lada, Radu, and Mehmed form a toxic triangle that strains the bonds of love and loyalty to the breaking point.

From New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White comes the first book in a dark, sweeping new series in which heads will roll, bodies will be impaled . . . and hearts will be broken.

DARK BREAKS THE DAWN Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway

Welcome to today’s stop on the DARK BREAKS THE DAWN blog tour. If you haven’t yet heard of this awesome new series by Sara B. Larson, you should definitely check out the all the stops on the tour to learn more.

For my stop today I’m sharing my thoughts about this amazing first book in the duology. Though I am keeping my lips sealed about its similarities to Swan Lake. And even though I would love to talk about just what happened. Especially right there at the end.

Whether you are a fan of Swan Lake or are unfamiliar with it, DARK BREAKS THE DAWN is a story that promises to captivate and will leave you desperate for the next installment.

So if you’re in the U.S. and would like the chance to win a copy, be sure to enter in the Rafflecopter below. And if you’d like to know what I thought, scroll down for my review.

On her eighteenth birthday, Princess Evelayn of Eadrolan, the Light Kingdom, can finally access the full range of her magical powers. The light looks brighter, the air is sharper, and the energy she can draw when fighting feels almost limitless.

But while her mother, the queen, remains busy at the war front, in the Dark Kingdom of Dorjhalon, the corrupt king is plotting. King Bain wants control of both kingdoms, and his plan will fling Evelayn into the throne much sooner than she expected.

In order to defeat Bain and his sons, Evelayn will quickly have to come into her ability to shapeshift, and rely on the alluring Lord Tanvir. But not everyone is what they seem, and the balance between the Light and Dark comes at a steep price.

In the first book of a remarkable duology, Sara B. Larson sets the stage for her reimagining of Swan Lake — a lush romance packed with betrayal, intrigue, magic, and adventure.

NOTE: This review is based on an eARC received from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book. A Kindle eCopy was purchased for my collection.

    The Review

DARK BREAKS THE DAWN is an enchanting and magical and riveting tale that introduces a princess who is just about to come into her abilities, a people who are divided by their powers of darkness and light, and two warring kingdoms kept embroiled in battle by a ruthless king who wants to rule them both. It is an exciting and suspenseful story that will keep readers guessing and will leave them anxiously awaiting the sequel.

Evelayn spent years training in anticipation of the day she would finally have access to her full powers. But nothing could have prepared her for what it would feel like to have them. And she never would have expected to have to master them as quickly as she needed to.

But when, after ten years of fighting valiantly against King Bain’s onslaughts, the Light Kingdom of Éadrolan’s defenses are breached, Evelayn will have to become the queen that her people need her to be and find a way to defeat the Dark Kingdom. Even if it means taking risks her mother never did. Because with no experience and no time to hone her skills, there are no safer options that could lead to victory.

Sara B. Larson penned a captivating and imaginative story that goes well beyond the confines of Swan Lake. She delivers the beauty, romance, magic, tragedy and betrayal that readers will expect, but adds adventure and mystery, creates tension, offers a number of characters to adore and despise, and teases secrets that will be revealed in the next installment.

DARK BREAKS THE DAWN is a mix of fairytale and fantasy. It is fascinating. It is thrilling. It is heartbreaking. It is bewitching. And with a beautiful princess, a handsome lord, two gorgeous but deadly princes, an evil king, a wicked queen, a dangerous quest, amazing abilities, and a killer cliffhanger ending, it promises to be a wonderfully gripping read.

    Character Profile: Jianyu Lee

    Jianyu Lee

I have not been in this country for very long, but it did not take more than a few months to realize that I never should never have come to this city. I was smuggled through Canada on a journey paid for by Tom Lee, the mayor of Chinatown. But no one warned me about the Brink. No one warned me that Tom Lee’s organization, the On Leong Tong, was more than a benevolent society. But I had no interest in being his weapon against those who could not defend themselves. This city is not kind to outsiders, but Dolph Saunders offered me a place with his crew. I am not sure that I can trust him. I am not sure I can trust anyone, but what are my choices? I might have become one of The Devil’s Own, but I remain watchful and wear a face the world does not question as I wait and hope for something more.

The heat of well-peppered dishes. The sunlight at daybreak. The sense of invincibility I have when I pull light around myself and walk like a ghost, unseen, in the city streets.

Living under a name that is not my own.

My affinity is for light, and my magic calls to that which illuminates this world. I can bend the light around myself and disappear.

Patience. The right opportunity will present itself.
