Q4 Review Pile Reading Challenge Wrap-up + Giveaway

    Horizontal

    It’s a wrap!

The year has ended and so has the Q4 2015 Review Pile Reading Challenge. Thank you ALL so much for participating in the challenging. I hope you were able to reduce those review book TBR piles so that you can start off 2016 guilt-free and with a clean slate.

While my December wasn’t nearly as successful as the other two challenge months, I kind of knew it wouldn’t be. So while I am disappointed that I didn’t read and review all the books I’d hoped to, I’m not surprised.

How I Did with My December Reads

    • PASSENGER by Alexandra Bracken – releases January 5th. Read & Review TK next week.
    • THICKER THAN WATER by Brigid Kemmerer – released December 29th. Read & Review TK today.
    • THE IMPOSTOR QUEEN by Sarah Fine – releases January 5th. Not yet read.
    • FORGET TOMORROW by Pintip Dunn – released November 3rd. Not yet read.
    • THE KILLING JAR by Jennifer Bosworth – releases January 12th. Not yet read.
    • THE VIOLINIST OF VENICE by Alyssa Palombo – released December 15th. Read & Review TK next week.
    • FLAWED by Cecilia Ahern – releases April 5th, 2016. Read & Review TK closer to release.
    • BLACKHEARTS by Nicole Castroman – releases February 9th, 2016. Review TK Feb. 8th.

I managed to read just five books in December and didn’t review any of them quite yet. A couple I’d read too early to review, one I’ll be reviewing today, and the other two I’ll be reviewing next week. But none of them qualify for the challenge. So a total fail.

Judging by the review links in the December post, however, I know you all did so much better than I did. Yay! And CONGRATULATIONS!

    The Giveaway

2014 Review Pile Reading Challenge Wrap Up + Winners Announced

    ReviewPile_challenge_BIG

2014 has ended and so has the 2014 Review Pile Reading Challenge. I can’t thank my co-host Reanna of Phantasmic Reads enough for helping to make this challenge super successful. Be sure to head over to her blog to read her wrap up post!

And I also owe a huge thank you to everyone who participated during this year-long challenge. Without you all I never would have had the drive to tackle as many review books as I did.

    December Reads

    1. Sekrit Book. Read 12.4.14. Reviewed 12.4.14.
    2. SUSPICION by Alexandra Monir. Read 12.7.14. Reviewed 12.9.14.
    3. ZODIAC by Romina Russell. Read 12.9.14. Reviewed 12.12.14.
    4. IGNITE by Sara B. Larson. Read 12.10.14. Reviewed 12.30.14.
    5. TRANSCENDENT by Lesley Livingston. Read 12.16.14. Reviewed 12.23.14.
    6. MAYHEM by Jamie Shaw. Read 12.19.14. Review TK 1.5.15.
    7. THE SIN EATER’S DAUGHTER by Melinda Salisbury. Read 12.30.14. Review TK in February.

    My Totals

I read 90 review books this year which seems to comprise most of my reads. And I managed to review 54 of them which isn’t too bad given the fact that for the first six months of the challenge I hardly reviewed any books at all.

I wanted to average 8 books per month and I came up just a little bit short. But I’m not disappointed in the number of books I did read, though I would have loved to have matched that number in reviews. Hopefully I’ll be able to improve upon that in 2015.

    October Replacement Winner

I never did hear back from the winner for the October giveaway for 2 books of the winner’s choice (up to $40 USD) from Amazon or The Book Depository. So I ran the numbers from the Linky List through Random again and the winner is…

#46 Books of Love for their review of A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray.

Please email me at fiktshun [at] gmail [dot] com by January 11th with your selections and address details and I will order them for you.

    December Winner

The winner for the December giveaway for 2 books of the winner’s choice (up to $40 USD) from Amazon or The Book Depository is…

#58 In Love With Handmade for their review of Top Ten Clues You’re Clueless by Liz Czukas.

Please email me at fiktshun [at] gmail [dot] com by January 11th with your selections and address details and I will order them for you.

    Fiktshun’s Challenge Winner

While there was no end-of-challenge giveaway planned, I have decided to add one as a thanks to everyone who took part in the event this past year. The prize is for up to $60 in Books of the Winner’s Choice from Amazon or The Book Depository.

And the surprise winner for the RPRC Challenge here on Fiktshun – taken from ALL the names on the Linky Lists from January through December and run through Random – is…

The Reader Lines for their review of Panic by Lauren Oliver.

Please email me at fiktshun [at] gmail [dot] com by January 11th with your selections and address details and I will order them for you.

Thank You and That’s a Wrap

Thanks again so much to everyone who signed up and participated in the challenge this year. I like to think that the challenge was not only fun but productive. It’s always nice to have a little extra incentive and motivation to tackle those huge review piles. I hope this challenge gave you that push to read a few more review books than you might otherwise have read.

Here’s to a fantastic 2015 in which those review piles get just a little bit smaller because the books on those piles are just so amazing that you can’t resist the opportunity to read them all.

    October & November Reads

As previously mentioned, since I’d been posting every other month, I have two months worth of bookish reads to share. I managed to read most of my planned October reads, but did not read one of the two books I’d hoped to read in November. And while I did not review all of the titles I did read, I managed to review most of them and review a couple of books I’d read earlier – LAILAH and EXQUISITE CAPTIVE. Hopefully I’ll be able to review the remaining books early this month. (Fingers are crossed. Tightly.)

And while December is typically a crazy month, I am hoping to tackle eight review books instead of my usual four. Though I won’t be posting reviews for a few of them until closer to their release dates.

    Anyway…

My reads in October & November were…

    1. LOVE ME TO DEATH by Marissa Clarke. Read 10.2.14. Review 10.18.14.
    2. THE FALL by Bethany Griffin. Read 10.5.14. Review 10.12.14.
    3. THE STARS NEVER RISE by Rachel Vincent. Re-read 10.9.14. Review 10.17.14.
    4. CHASING POWER by Sarah Beth Durst. Read 10.11.14. Review 10.14.14.
    5. LOOP by Karen Akins. Read 10.19.14. Review 10.22.14.
    6. TRIAL BY FIRE by Josephine Angelini. Re-read 10.21.14. Review 11.4.14.
    7. THE PERFECTIONISTS by Sara Shepard. Read 10.21.14. Review 10.28.14.
    8. BEAUTIFUL GIRL by Lida James. Read 10.26.14. Review 10.28.14.
    9. UNBREAKABLE by C.C. Hunter. Read 10.27.14. Review 10.31.14.
    10. ETERNAL by C.C. Hunter. Read 10.29.14. Review 10.31.14.
    11. THE WALLED CITY by Ryan Graudin. Read 10.28.14.
    12. WILD by Sophie Jordan. Re-read 10.31.14. Review 11.10.14.
    13. LETTING GO by Molly McAdams. Read 10.31.14. Review 11.4.14.
    14. FORESWORN by Rinda Elliott. Read 11.16.14. Review TK 12.2.14.
    15. BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE by Maggie Stiefvater. Read 11.20.14.
    16. THE DARKEST TOUCH by Gena Showalter. Read 11.23.14. Review 11.26.14.
    17. ENSNARED by A.G. Howard. Read 11.27.14. Review TK in January.
    18. NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE by Amy K. Nichols. Read 11.28.14. Review TK 12.2.14.
    19. SUBLIME by Christina Lauren. Read 11.30.14. Review TK by 12.5.14.

I am surprised that I read 19 review books in the past couple of months. Especially as I also read a few non-review books, too. November was almost a total dud. I did manage to read a few review books but barely got any reviews written. My technology-free week the first week in November kind of spilled over into the second week, leaving me very little time to actually read and blog and review. And with an unexpected visitor in town the third week of November, it basically left me with the week of Thanksgiving. So, no. Not much time at all.

    December Reads

I was doing fairly well with the whole read and review thing on the new blog in October. Not so much November, as mentioned above. But I am hoping to get back on track this December, though I will have family in town for the holidays, so I’m going to have to try and tackle everything planned during the first three-and-a-half weeks of this month.

I’m kind of not really in the mood to read anything in particular. Once I start reading a book, I end up getting drawn in, but finding a genre that grabs me has been tough. I blame The Raven Cycle series. There’s just something about reading books by Maggie Stiefvater that puts me in the mood for different, quirky, bizarre, haunting, original, unusual.

So I’m not entirely sure I’ll be able to stay on plan. But here goes. And yes, I have quite a few reads planned that are not December releases.

    My planned reads are…

I am going for eight books this month, instead of four. It’s ambitious, I know, but what the heck.

TRANSCENDENT by Lesley Livingston (releases December 23 2014)

IGNITE by Sara B. Larson (releases December 30 2014)

THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST by Holly Black (releases January 13 2015)

RED QUEEN by Victoria Aveyard (releases February 10 2015)

THE WINNER’S CRIME by Marie Rutkoski (releases March 3 2015)

HALF WILD by Sally Green (releases March 24 2015)

FALL WITH ME by Jennifer L. Armentrout (releases March 31 2015)

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM by Kerstin Gier (releases April 14 2015)

    What about you?

    August & September Reads

As previously mentioned, since I’m posting every other month, I have two months worth of bookish reads to share. (And since I won’t be posting again until December, I’m sharing the books which I hope to read in October and November.)

I did not read all eight books I planned on reading (surprise, surprise) – though I still plan on reading a few of those releasing in October and November. But I just haven’t read them yet.

Though I did end up writing and posting my reviews for earlier reads – THE VAULT OF DREAMERS, BLACK ICE, DARK SKYE, FORECAST – in August and September. And I plan on posting reviews for A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU, #scandal, STAY WITH ME, SNOW LIKE ASHES, and TRIAL BY FIRE this month… hopefully.

    Anyway…

My reads in August & September were…

    1. WILD by Sophie Jordan. Read 8.1.14.
    2. BLIND by Rachel DeWoskin. Read 8.14.14. Reviewed 9.13.14.
    3. FEUDS by Avery Hastings. Read 8.28.14. Reviewed 9.2.14.
    4. GET EVEN by Gretchen McNeil. Read 9.1.14. Reviewed 9.15.14.
    5. FALLING INTO PLACE by Amy Zhang. Read 9.7.14. Reviewed 9.9.14.
    6. THE PERILOUS SEA by Sherry Thomas. Read 9.9.14.
    7. THE GIFTED DEAD by Jenna Black. Read 9.13.14.
    8. INVISIBLE by Dawn MetCalf. Read 9.14.14. Review 9.27.14.
    9. MADE FOR YOU by Melissa Marr. Read 9.18.14. Review 9.22.14.
    10. ROOMS by Lauren Oliver. Read 9.18.14. Review 9.19.14.
    11. ADRENALINE CRUSH by Laurie Boyle Crompton. Read 9.22.14. Review 9.23.14.
    12. WINTERSPELL by Claire Legrand. Read 9.26.14. Review 9.30.14.
    13. EXQUISITE CAPTIVE by Heather Demetrios. Read 9.30.14. Review TK 10.3.14.

I didn’t quite manage to read as many review books as I did last time. But I did manage to review a lot more of the books I had read these past couple of months and ones from earlier in the challenge. And while I still have a number of reviews to catch up on this month, I am definitely more hopeful than I have been in a long while.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed because October is insane with new release awesomeness and I’ll be completely technology-free for the first week in November.

    October & November Reads

Now that I’ve scaled things back started a new blog with the hope of changing things up following that drama I mentioned last time around, I’m definitely set on writing more reviews for the books I have already received for review.

But given the fact that November is always tricky – though I won’t be participating in NaNoWriMo this year – I am not going to up the number of books on my planned reads list. Though I am going to try and finish reading some of those earlier planned reads before their release date.

And once again my mood is all over the place. One minute I’m up for a YA contemp, the next it’s post-apocalyptic, the next it’s vamps, the next it’s non-YA PNR. I dive into books over and over and over again until I can find the one that sticks. So we’ll just have to see how on target I am with the next two months’ reads.

    My planned reads are…

I’m going to change things up a bit and opt for six review books in October and just two in November. It sort-of-kind-of worked out that I read most of my review books in one month last time, so I’m going to make October the review-heavy month. And it better work this time around since I have a number of review stops on the various tours I’m participating on where it’s not a choice.

Besides, I’d really love (for once) to be eight for eight when I post in December.

    Fingers crossed.

In October I hope to read:

THE PERFECTIONISTS by Sara Shepard (releases October 7th)

FIGURES OF BEAUTY by David Macfarlane (releases October 7th)

THE FALL by Bethany Griffin (releases October 7th)

CHASING POWER by Sarah Beth Durst (releases October 14th)

LOOP by Karen Akins (releases October 21st)

ETERNAL by C.C. Hunter (releases October 28th)

In November I hope to read:

SUBLIME by Christina Lauren (releases October 14th)

ALL BROKE DOWN by Cora Carmack (releases October 28th)

    What about you?

    June & July Reads

As I mentioned last time, since I’m posting every other month, I have two months worth of bookish reads to share. (And since I won’t be posting again until October, I’m sharing the books which books I hope to read in August and September.)

Once again I didn’t read all eight books I hoped to read, though I did read three along with a number of others. And with the change in status here on the blog I’m not entirely sure how on track I’ll be with my planned reads for the next two months.

I’m still hoping to review a number of the review books I’ve read so far during this challenge, it just hasn’t quite happened yet. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

    My reads were…

    1. THE VAULT OF DREAMERS by Caragh M. O’Brien. Read 6.8.14.
    2. TRIAL BY FIRE by Josephine Angelini. Read 6.9.14.
    3. 17 FIRST KISSES by Rachael Allen. Read 6.11.14.
    4. A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU by Claudia Gray. Read 6.13.14.
    5. I AM THE WEAPON by Allen Zadoff. Read 6.14.14.
    6. I AM THE MISSION by Allen Zadoff. Read 6.15.14.
    7. #scandal by Sarah Ockler. Read 6.19.14.
    8. BRAZEN by Katherine Longshore. Read 6.20.14.
    9. BOOMERANG by Noelle August. Read 6.23.14.
    10. BLACK ICE by Becca Fitzpatrick. Read 6.26.14.
    11. STAY WITH ME by J. Lynn. Read 6.27.14.
    12. WAYFARING STRANGER by James Lee Burke. Read 7.15.14.
    13. DARK SKYE by Kresley Cole. Read 7.18.14. Review TK on Monday, August 4th.
    14. THIS SUMMER by Katlyn Dunca. Read 7.23.14.
    15. FORECAST by Rinda Elliott. Read 7.29.14. Review TK on Tuesday, August 5th.

I read four more review books than I did last time around and I reviewed four books during the past two months. But to be fair, five of the books aren’t releasing for awhile so I had no intention of writing and posting reviews this past two months, one review was accidentally deleted and has yet to be rewritten, and two of them will be reviewed here on the blog next week. So that’s just three potentially unreviewed books.

I’m sure it’s not nearly as impressive as what most of the participants have been doing this past couple of months, but it’s definitely an improvement for me.

    August & September Reads

I’m not sure how many review books I’ll be receiving over the next two months, given the fact that I am scaling things back due to my latest drama. But my goal is to try and read only review books so that I can write as many reviews as possible.

But I don’t want to over commit. And my mood is still all over the place so I have no idea what books might call to me in August and September. So I’m just going to guess at what might interest me.

    My planned reads are…

As I’ve done for the last few months of the challenge, I’m going to list just eight books for the next two months and my goal is to review them all. And as I am currently reading a few review books right now, I’m not going list them below in my count of hopeful reads as I know I’ll finish them.

In August I hope to read:

BLIND by Rachel DeWoskin (releases August 7th)

THE AFTERMATH by Jen Alexander (releases August 26th)

FALLING INTO PLACE by Amy Zhang (releases September 9th)

GET EVEN by Gretchen McNeil (releases September 16th)

In September I hope to read:

RITES OF PASSAGE by Joy N. Hensley (releases September 9th)

WINTERSPELL by Claire Legrand (releases September 30th)

EXQUISITE CAPTIVE by Heather Demetrios (releases October 7th)

THE WALLED CITY by Ryan Graudin (releases November 4th)

    What about you?

    ***END OF UPDATE***

    April & May Reads

Since I’m posting every other month, I have two months worth of bookish reads to share. And since I won’t be posting again until August, I thought I’d share which books I hope to read in June and July.

And while I didn’t read all of my planned reads, I did read many of them. Which isn’t too bad, especially since I’ve already passed the number of books I’d hoped to read for this entire challenge.

Of course I didn’t get to review them all just yet.

My April & May reads were…
    1. TEASE by Amanda Maciel. Read 4.9.14.
    2. DON’T LOOK BACK by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Read 4.11.14.
    3. TEASE by Sophie Jordan. Read 4.14.14.
    4. ALL LINED UP by Cora Carmack. Read 4.18.14.
    5. THE LOVELY AND THE LOST by Page Morgan. Read 4.30.14.
    6. TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD by J. Lynn. Read 5.2.14.
    7. DON’T CALL ME BABY by Gwendolyn Heasley. Read 5.4.14.
    8. BREAKABLE by Tammara Webber. Read 5.6.14.
    9. TAKE ME ON by Katie McGarry. Read 5.11.14.
    10. THE STEPSISTER’S TALE by Tracy Barrett. Read 5.18.14.
    11. SNOW LIKE ASHES by Sara Raasch. Read 5.26.14.

While it’s four fewer books than I read last time around, that’s because I read a few less review books and a few more books I had in my collection over the past couple of months. Not many. Just a few. But still, I loved reading every single one of those non-review books.

    June & July Reads

I’m terrible at planning ahead. Especially since I haven’t had a moment to think about what’s coming up over the next couple of months. And as my mood has been shifting like crazy, I just don’t know what I’ll end up reading. I just hope I get the chance to review a few more than I did over the last couple of months.

    My reads…

If I’m staying on plan, I hope to read eight books during the months of June and July and I hope to review at least four of them.

In June I hope to read:

TRIAL BY FIRE by Josephine Angelini (releases September 2nd)

THE PERILOUS SEA by Sherry Thomas (releases September 16th)

WINGS by Elizabeth Richards (releases June 12th)

#scandal by Sarah Ockler (releases June 17th)

In July I hope to read:

THE HALF LIFE OF MOLLY PIERCE by Katrina Leno (releases July 8th)

MORTAL DANGER by Ann Aguirre (releases August 5th)

DELIVERANCE by C.J. Redwine (releases August 26th)

A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU by Claudia Gray (releases November 4th)

    What about you?

If I’m staying on plan, I hope to read eight books during the months of April and May and I hope to review at least four of them.

In April I hope to read:
