    Description…

Big and sweeping, spanning from the refined palaces of Osfrid to the gold dust and untamed forests of Adoria, The Glittering Court tells the story of Adelaide, an Osfridian countess who poses as her servant to escape an arranged marriage and start a new life in Adoria, the New World. But to do that, she must join the Glittering Court.

Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies who appear destined for powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. Adelaide naturally excels in her training, and even makes a few friends: the fiery former laundress Tamsin and the beautiful Sirminican refugee Mira. She manages to keep her true identity hidden from all but one: the intriguing Cedric Thorn, son of the wealthy proprietor of the Glittering Court.

When Adelaide discovers that Cedric is hiding a dangerous secret of his own, together they hatch a scheme to make the best of Adelaide’s deception. Complications soon arise—first as they cross the treacherous seas from Osfrid to Adoria, and then when Adelaide catches the attention of a powerful governor.

But no complication will prove quite as daunting as the potent attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. An attraction that, if acted on, would scandalize the Glittering Court and make them both outcasts in wild, vastly uncharted lands…

    Why I Adore Vampire Academy

I discovered VAMPIRE ACADEMY before I started blogging about books. So this has been a long-term love affair. It wasn’t an instant love connection – yeah, it took me until page four or five to become hooked, starting from the line “And a man watching me.” And from that point on it was unputdownable and I soon fell madly in love.

Rose is an amazing heroine – she is seriously fierce and determined, and she does not give up even when the odds are against her. She is still one of my top three favorite female main characters in YA fiction. And Dimitri is still one of my favorite male protagonists. And they are one of the most memorable character couples I have “met.”

This series is filled with kick-a** fights. It is an emotional roller coaster. There is so much to swoon over. It’s nail-biting, nerve wracking and completely addictive. It checks every single box in terms of what I look for in a series.

And it’s one of the first YA series I read that brought me to ugly tears on more than one occasion which puts it in a very small but elite group.

If that isn’t enough, one of the characters said one of my most favorite and devastating lines in YA fiction – a line that I can still quote and often do. But I won’t reveal the who, or what the line is, as it is spoiler-y for those who haven’t read the series. Though it is one of the quotes I’ve long had associated with my Goodreads profile if you’re that curious.

This is such a unique series. The writing is fantastic. The secondary characters – Adrian, Lissa, Christian, Mason and Eddie, to name a few – are every bit as captivating as the mains.

I love ALL THE THINGS about this series – even the moments that broke my heart. (Yes I even wrote the series a love letter on the blog back in 2011.) I’ve read it more than once. And with this 10th Anniversary Edition and all the extras, you better believe I’ll be reading it and falling in love with it all over again, starting just as soon as I finish this post…

Calling all AN EMBER IN THE ASHES FANS: Name the Fandom + Giveaway

    Name-the-Fandom

In case you haven’t heard… Because of its success, AN EMBER IN THE ASHES is getting a sequel – yes, that’s right, there will be another story about Laia and Elias. The awesome folks at Penguin will be publishing the sequel, due out in April of next year according to Goodreads. And I am OVER THE MOOON ecstatic about this. You probably have NO idea how excited I am. Because…

AN EMBER IN THE ASHES is one of those books that left me feeling ill-equipped to voice just how much I loved it. It’s a story that I’ve majorly fangirled over. And if I were to reveal just how much I loved it, my post would be filled with all sorts of gushy ramblings vs. coherent thoughts.

Let’s just say that I am totally stoked that the story has not yet reached its end and let’s not talk about the fact that I may have done a really awkward and embarrassing version of a happy dance when I heard. Anyway…

So, of course I jumped at the chance to help spread the news that the publisher is looking for names for the AN EMBER IN THE ASHES fandom.

    The deets…

Leave a comment with YOUR name suggestions for the AN EMBER IN THE ASHES fandom. Penguin Teen will be putting together a poll with the most popular suggestions so that everyone can vote and have a say. Wouldn’t that be totally cool if the name you picked was up for a vote? An even cooler if it was chosen as the fandom name?!?

    And…

As a thank you to those that help out with a suggestion, I will put your names into Random on Friday for the chance to win a Book of Your Choice up to $20 USD from either Amazon or The Book Depository.

And yes… they did ask for me to share a few of my suggested fandom names. But I am AWFUL at titling things. No joke. I am really, really, bad at it. My ideas were too lame to put in this post. I just couldn’t reveal what I came up with and ever hope to show my face in the book blogosphere again.

If you’re having just as much of a hard time as I was, but you want to come up with something, here are a few possible (and potentially SPOILER-Y) prompts from the book:

    • Laia is a SCHOLAR. Elias is a MASK.
    • The live in the MARTIAL EMPIRE.
    • The “good guys” are part of THE RESISTANCE.
    • The school is called BLACKCLIFF MILITARY ACADEMY.
    • Elias’ last name is VETURIUS.
    • Laia’s mother was the LIONESS. Elias’ mother is the COMMANDANT.
    • Elias is the EMBER IN THE ASHES.

I hope those factoids help. They did not help me one iota. But that’s because (as I may have already mentioned) I am the worst at coming up with names and titles.

And just in case you needed more inspiration, here’s some information about the book and author.

    The Interview

    Q&A with Romina Russell

    Q. If you had to describe ZODIAC (the book or series) in 25 words or less, how would you describe it?

In a galaxy of people divided by their ZODIAC signs, Cancer’s young Guardian must unite the twelve Houses before an ancient evil destroys them all.

    Q. If you could meet one of your characters from the Zodiac series in real life, who would it be?

I’d love to answer, but my ship would be showing… 😉

    Q. For those anxiously awaiting the sequel, WANDERING STAR, can you tease a favorite quote or short passage from it?

Oooh, I don’t know if I’m officially allowed to do this, but I’m not strong enough to refuse! Here are Wandering Star’s opening lines, from the prologue:

WHEN I THINK OF MOM, I think of the day she abandoned us. There are dozens of memories that still haunt me, but that one always shoves its way to the surface first, submerging all other thoughts with its power.

    Q. What can readers expect from future books in the Zodiac series?

ZODIAC explores the evolution of a young leader who’s been thrust into the galactic spotlight before she’s had a chance to figure herself out. Rho’s rise to power takes place in tragic and turbulent times, so she must learn the lessons of leadership on the job, and always on the run. In subsequent books, readers can expect Rho to try even harder to unite her universe, which means traveling to new Houses and exploring new and wildly different cultures, technologies, and worlds. <3

Thanks so much for having me! xoxoxo

Rhoma Grace is a 16-year-old student from House Cancer with an unusual way of reading the stars. While her classmates use measurements to make accurate astrological predictions, Rho can’t solve for ‘x’ to save her life—so instead, she looks up at the night sky and makes up stories.

When a violent blast strikes the moons of Cancer, sending its ocean planet off-kilter and killing thousands of citizens—including its beloved Guardian—Rho is more surprised than anyone when she is named the House’s new leader. But, a true Cancerian who loves her home fiercely and will protect her people no matter what, Rho accepts.

Then, when more Houses fall victim to freak weather catastrophes, Rho starts seeing a pattern in the stars. She suspects Ophiuchus—the exiled 13th Guardian of Zodiac legend—has returned to exact his revenge across the Galaxy. Now Rho—along with Hysan Dax, a young envoy from House Libra, and Mathias, her guide and a member of her Royal Guard—must travel through the Zodiac to warn the other Guardians.

But who will believe anything this young novice says? Whom can Rho trust in a universe defined by differences? And how can she convince twelve worlds to unite as one Zodiac?

Embark on a dazzling journey with ZODIAC, the first novel in an epic sci-fi-meets-high-fantasy series set in a galaxy inspired by the astrological signs.

AN EMBER IN THE ASHES Blog Tour: ‘Would You Rather?’ Guest Post + Giveaway

    AnEmberintheAshesBT

I am so unbelievably excited to be a part of the AN EMBER IN THE ASHES Blog Tour and to have been able to ask the very, very amazing and talented Sabaa Tahir a few “Would You Rather?” questions for my stop today. I love her answers – especially the ones involving her characters and her book – and I am so happy I finally get to share them.

I am also super excited that AN EMBER IN THE ASHES releases in less than a week – yes, it’s finally, finally, finally, almost here. And I can’t wait until everyone reads it and falls as madly in love with it as I did. It is EPIC. And AWESOME. It’s a story you don’t want ever to end. It’s a world you’ll never want to leave, even if it is dangerous for just about everyone who is a part of it. And Laia and Elias are two characters you’ll love getting to know.

If you haven’t yet pre-ordered your copy so that it lands in your mailbox as close to release date as possible, there’s still time! There are a few links below for places you can pre-order your copy online. And if you want to see where else you can purchase a copy, be sure to visit the AN EMBER IN THE ASHES website – which also has a ton of information about the book and its author.

As you may have already guessed, I love this book. It is one of my all-time favorite high fantasy novels. I couldn’t devour it fast enough. And with every switch between Laia and Elais’s POV I was both thrilled to be back with the character I’d been missing for the one chapter and eager to get back to the character I just left.

Yeah… it’s just that amazing and brilliant and riveting and stunning… and so, so, so very epic. The pre-release buzz for this book is well-deserved and doesn’t even begin to do this story justice.

So while I can’t make release day come any faster, I can offer up a copy of the book for giveaway so that one reader will have a copy of AN EMBER IN THE ASHES headed their way after its release next week.

This tour runs for four weeks and has some awesome posts – posts I can’t wait to check out – scheduled. So if you’d like to visit all the stops, scroll down to the bottom of the post for the schedule which will be updated daily with direct links to each stop. This is an epic tour for an epic book and you won’t want to miss a single one!

    • Hardcover, always.

Would you rather read fiction or non-fiction?

    • Fiction.

Would you rather be under the rule of the Martial Empire or have a role in the Martial Empire?

    • I’d rather have a role in the Empire, which I could then use to, you know, sow revolution.

Would you rather live in Laia and Elias’s world – the world that you created – or in the world you live in – the real world?

    • I like the real world.

Would you rather be Laia, Elias, Helene or The Commandant?

    • I’d rather be Elias.

Would you rather meet Laia, Elias, Helene or The Commandant?

    • I’d love to meet Laia.

Would you rather leave readers on the edge of a cliff or give them a story that is all wrapped up?

    • I like stories where the character arcs are wrapped up, but there’s still a hook for more story.

Would you rather give readers the unexpected or give them what they expect?

    • The unexpected.

Would you rather give readers a heroine who is fierce or one who becomes so as the story progresses?

    • Someone who becomes so as the story progresses.

Would you rather give readers a love story that is immediate and intense or one with a slow burn that eventually becomes an inferno?

    • I think both have their charms, but if forced to pick, slow burn.
