Morganville: The Series: Episodes 1-4 & Exclusive Behind the Scene Photos

MV series imageIn case you haven’t heard…

Author Rachel Caine’s THE MORGANVILLE VAMPIRES SERIES has been adapted into a web series. And I’m super excited to be able to share the trailer as well as the first four episodes here on the blog today along with four exclusive behind-the-scenes photos.

The fifth episode will be out tomorrow, so be sure to check out Geek and Sundry’s YouTube Channel to watch.

If you haven’t yet visited Morganville, Texas or met any of its residents, I’ve included information on each of the books as well as links to them on Goodreads a bit further down in this post so that you can. And if you haven’t heard about this web series, the press release follows immediately below.

The episodes are a lot of fun. So if you have a few minutes or a bit more time than that, be sure to check one or all of them out.

    The Press Release

Morganville: The Series Revitalizes Vampire Genre Just in Time for Halloween

Rachel Caine’s Snarky Vampires Perfect for Geek & Sundry’s October Line-up

Geek & Sundry: Rachel Caine is adapting her Morganville Vampires books – fifteen (15) total – for a hilarious fright fest of a web series. Each episode of the first season is expected to be 8-12 minutes long, bringing the entire season to about an hour and is freely adapted by Rachel from the first novel – Glass Houses. The first season will begin airing on Geek & Sundry October 27th with a prime schedule planned out… the hope is that the first season finale lands on Halloween day.

Thanks to a passionate fanbase who fully supported the Kickstarter project (and whose funds were then matched by Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry), Morganville Vampires: Book Series became Morganville: The Series and utilized one of the fastest, most innovative platforms for upcoming shows. Through the expansive reach of Youtube, Rachel’s fans can enjoy the show without the long wait that comes through traditional television and also, reach a worldwide audience faster. All around it made the most sense for a book series of this size and caliber.

Even though web series are seen as non-traditional formats, the casting process and scouting for film locations remains normal. Auditions were held in Dallas, LA, Austin, New Orleans and some digital (to give fans of the books a chance at the spotlight too). Rachel wrote all the character monologues for the auditions. The entire show ended up being filmed on location in Dallas, Texas in four separate venues, including a coffee shop, a turn-of-last-century Victorian home, a hospital, and a university. Nearly every episode ends with Rachel’s infamous cliffhanger endings!

Switching from book to film writing was easier than Rachel expected. The very first thing she did, ended up setting the stage for the adaptation process and made it easier for her to focus on the story she wished to tell. Rachel says, “The first thing I tried to do, since I wrote the book in 2006, was to write down everything I remembered from it without re-reading it. That was fascinating, because what I wrote down was really the core story, and that turned out to be what needed to be told in the show. So while I did go back to the book, I did it for the purposes of review, not inspiration.”

Fans might be wondering how a 10-day- shoot in April 2014 could possibly yield a story they recognize, Rachel is confident the series delivers and explains, “For practical purposes, you can only have so many characters in a show with this running time, so some characters from the novel, while really interesting, ended up not being central to the plot (like Miranda). However, I did think it was important to introduce Myrnin, who is a fan favorite character, into the mix early, so he makes a short appearance this season.”

    Morganville: The Series

The show stars fan favorites Robert Picardo as Oliver (Star Trek: Voyager) and Amber Benson (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) as Amelie, as well as Lindsay Seidel (Claire), Jordan Taylor Farris (Shane), Haileigh Todd (Eve), Ben Easter (Michael), Nikki Donley (Hannah), Afomia Hailemeskel (Monica), Jessi Mechler (Gina), Taylor Murphy (Jennifer), Gregory Connors (Brandon) and Chase Ryan Jeffery (Myrnin).

It is directed by Blake Calhoun, known for his award-winning and groundbreaking digital series Pink and Continuum, the show was filmed on location in Texas on a Blackmagic camera.

    Morganville Vampires: The Books

    Morganville_Books

GLASS HOUSES (The Morganville Vampires #1)

From the author of the popular Weather Warden series comes the debut of an exciting new series set in Morganville, Texas, where you would be well advised to avoid being out after dark.

College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation. When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don’t show many signs of life, but they’ll have Claire’s back when the town’s deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood. Will she be able to face the town’s terror or will she drown like everyone else?

THE DEAD GIRLS’ DANCE (The Morganville Vampires #2)

Claire Danvers has her share of challenges—like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains, dealing with the homicidal girls in her dorm, and above all, finding out that her college town is overrun with vampires. On the up side, she has a great roommate (who tends to disappear at sunup) and a new boyfriend named Shane, whose vampire-hunting dad has called in backup: cycle punks who like the idea of killing just about anything.

Now a fraternity is throwing its annual Dead Girls’ Dance and—surprise!—Claire and her equally outcast best friend, Eve, have been invited. When they find out why, all hell is going to break loose. Because this time both the living and the dead are coming out—and everybody’s hungry for blood.

MIDNIGHT ALLEY (The Morganville Vampires #3)

When Claire Danvers learned that her college town was run by vampires, she did what any intelligent, self-preserving freshman would do: She applied for a transfer and stocked up on garlic. The transfer is no longer an option, but that garlic may come in handy.

FEAST OF FOOLS (The Morganville Vampires #4)

In the town of Morganville, vampires and humans live in relative peace. Student Claire Danvers has never been convinced, though, especially with the arrival of Mr. Bishop, an ancient, old-school vampire who cares nothing about harmony. What he wants from the town’s living and its dead is unthinkably sinister. It’s only at a formal ball, attended by vampires and their human dates, that Claire realizes the elaborately evil trap he’s set for Morganville.

LORD OF MISRULE (The Morganville Vampires #5)

In the college town of Morganville, vampires and humans coexist in (relatively) bloodless harmony. Then comes Bishop, the master vampire who threatens to abolish all order, revive the forces of the evil dead, and let chaos rule. But Bishop isn’t the only threat.

Violent black cyclone clouds hover, promising a storm of devastating proportions as student Claire Danvers and her friends prepare to defend Morganville against elements both natural and unnatural.

CARPE CORPUS (The Morganville Vampires #6)

In the small college town of Morganville, vampires and humans lived in (relative) peace-until all the rules got rewritten when the evil vampire Bishop arrived, looking for the lost book of vampire secrets. He’s kept a death grip on the town ever since. Now an underground resistance is brewing, and in order to contain it, Bishop must go to even greater lengths. He vows to obliterate the town and all its inhabitants-the living and the undead. Claire Danvers and her friends are the only ones who stand in his way. But even if they defeat Bishop, will the vampires ever be content to go back to the old rules, after having such a taste of power?

FADE OUT (The Morganville Vampires #7)

Without the evil vampire Bishop ruling over the town of Morganville, the resident vampires have made major concessions to the human population. With their newfound freedoms, Claire Danvers and her friends are almost starting to feel comfortable again…

Now Claire can actually concentrate on her studies, and her friend Eve joins the local theatre company. But when one of Eve’s castmates goes missing after starting work on a short documentary, Eve suspects the worst. Claire and Eve soon realize that this film project, whose subject is the vampires themselves, is a whole lot bigger—and way more dangerous—than anyone suspected.

KISS OF DEATH (The Morganville Vampires #8)

Vampire musician Michael Glass has attracted the attention of a big- time producer who wants to cut a demo and play some gigs-which means Michael will have to enter the human world. For this, he’s been assigned escorts that include both a dangerous immortal as well as Michael’s all-too-human friends. And with that mix of personalities, this is going to be a road trip from hell…

GHOST TOWN (The Morganville Vampires #9)

While developing a new system to maintain Morganville’s defenses, student Claire Danvers discovers a way to amplify vampire mental powers. Through this, she’s able to re-establish the field around this vampire-infested Texas college town that protects it from outsiders.

But the new upgrades have an unexpected consequence: people inside the town begin to slowly forget who they are-even the vampires. Soon, the town’s little memory problem has turned into a full-on epidemic. Now Claire needs to figure out a way to pull the plug on her experiment- before she forgets how to save Morganville…

BITE CLUB (The Morganville Vampires #10)

After discovering that vampires populate her town, college student Claire Danvers knows that the undead just want to live their lives. But someone else wants them to get ready to rumble.

There’s a new extreme sport getting picked up on the Internet: bare—knuckle fights pitting captured vampires against each other—or humans. Tracking the remote signal leads Claire—accompanied by her friends and frenemies—to discover that what started as an online brawl will soon threaten everyone in Morganville…

LAST BREATH (The Morganville Vampires #11)

With her boss preoccupied researching the Founder Houses in Morganville, student Claire Danvers is left to her own devices when she learns that three vampires have vanished without a trace. She soon discovers that the last person seen with one of the missing vampires is someone new to town-a mysterious individual named Magnus. After an uneasy encounter with Morganville’s latest resident, Claire is certain Magnus isn’t merely human. But is he a vampire-or something else entirely?

BLACK DAWN (The Morganville Vampires #12)

With its eclectic mix of vampire and human citizens, Morganville, Texas, has always been a risky place to call home. But with the invasion of the vampire’s deadliest enemy, Morganville isn’t just in danger—it’s dying…

Ever since the draug—mysterious creatures that prey on vampires—took over Morganville, the lives of student Claire Danvers and her friends have been thrown into turmoil. Most of the town’s residents have evacuated, but Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael have chosen to stay and fight.Using the city’s water system to spread, the draug have rapidly multiplied. Things in Morganville look grim, especially since vampire Amelie—the town founder—has been infected by the master draug’s bite.

Now, if Claire and her friends don’t figure out how to cure Amelie and defeat the draug, it looks like Morganville will become little more than a ghost town…

BITTER BLOOD (The Morganville Vampires #13)

For years, the human and vampire residents of Morganville, Texas, have managed to co-exist in peace. But now that the threat to the vampires has been defeated, the human residents are learning that the gravest danger they face is the enemy within…

Thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires.

To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news… or worse.

FALL OF NIGHT (The Morganville Vampires #14)

Thanks to its unique combination of human and vampire residents, Morganville, Texas, is a small college town with big-time problems. When student Claire Danvers gets the chance to experience life on the outside, she takes it. But Morganville isn’t the only town with vampire trouble…

Claire never thought she’d leave Morganville, but when she gets accepted into the graduate program at MIT, she can’t pass up the opportunity. Saying good-bye to her friends is bittersweet, especially since things are still raw and unsettled between Claire and her boyfriend, Shane.

Her new life at MIT is scary and exciting, but Morganville is never really far from Claire’s mind. Enrolled in a special advanced study program with Professor Irene Anderson, a former Morganville native, Claire is able to work on her machine, which is designed to cancel the mental abilities of vampires.

But when she begins testing her machine on live subjects, things quickly spiral out of control, and Claire starts to wonder whether leaving Morganville was the last mistake she’ll ever make…

    DAYLIGHTERS (The Morganville Vampires #15)

While Morganville, Texas, is often a troubled town, Claire Danvers and her friends are looking forward to coming home. But the Morganville they return to isn’t the one they know; it’s become a different place—a deadly one…

Something drastic has happened in Morganville while Claire and her friends were away. The town looks cleaner and happier than they’ve ever seen it before, but when their incoming group is arrested and separated—vampires from humans—they realize that the changes definitely aren’t for the better.

It seems that an organization called the Daylight Foundation has offered the population of Morganville something they’ve never had: hope of a vampire-free future. And while it sounds like salvation—even for the vampires themselves—the truth is far more sinister and deadly.

Now, Claire, Shane and Eve need to find a way to break their friends out of Daylighter custody, before the vampires of Morganville meet their untimely end.

“O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou, Romeo?” Apparently he’s here, in Rachel Caine’s latest novel PRINCE OF SHADOWS and oh my gosh I am so excited for my pre-order to download.

I think Rachel Caine is an amazing writer – I am madly in love with her characters – and I can’t wait to read her retelling of the tragic tale of the Capulets and Montagues.

I love that Benvolio Montague sees Rosaline and a curse falls on Verona that rewrites their fates. I am dying to see just how this story changes because of his actions. And I really hope to be able to do so next weekend… if I can wait that long.

    Description…

A thrilling retelling of the star-crossed tale of Romeo and Juliet, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Morganville Vampires series.

In the Houses of Montague and Capulet, there is only one goal: power. The boys are born to fight and die for honor and—if they survive—marry for influence and money, not love. The girls are assets, to be spent wisely. Their wishes are of no import. Their fates are written on the day they are born.

Benvolio Montague, cousin to Romeo, knows all this. He expects to die for his cousin, for his house, but a spark of rebellion still lives inside him. At night, he is the Prince of Shadows, the greatest thief in Verona—and he risks all as he steals from House Capulet. In doing so, he sets eyes on convent-bound Rosaline, and a terrible curse begins that will claim the lives of many in Verona…

…And will rewrite all their fates, forever.

    Dots_Divider

I am so excited that not only will my Kindle copy of CRESS download this week but that the lovely print edition will arrive so that I can add it to my collection. I am currently mid-read and I am wildly in love with this third book in the series. It might just be my favorite yet.

I don’t know how things will end. I just know that I am totally riveted. And that I’d much rather be continuing to read CRESS instead of rambling about it here and now in this post.

Marissa Meyer is an amazing and imaginative storyteller and with each book in this series she continues to wow me. And as excited as I am to reach this story’s end, I am sad that this series will end with WINTER. Hm… maybe I should have waited to start reading CRESS so I could have further delayed the inevitable.

    Description…

Rapunzel’s tower is a satellite. She can’t let down her hair—or her guard.

In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker—unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.

THE SOUND OF LETTING GO by Stasia Ward Kehoe will be released in the U.S. on February 6, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Fiking Juvenile, the print edition is 400 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I feel like I’ve been waiting for ages for THE SOUND OF LETTING GO‘s release date. And in just a few more days I’ll finally get the chance to read this amazing-sounding book when it downloads to my Kindle.

I can’t wait to discover Daisy’s story, to see whether she’ll be able to completely break away from who she used to be or whether Cal will remind her of who she was and all that she gave up. I have no idea which choices I’ll root for, whose side I’ll be on, and whether I think Daisy should hold on or decide to let go.

If time permits I’d love to get this on my reading pile next week. But if not, I definitely plan on adding it to the pile after my exam on the 16th.

    Description…

For sixteen years, Daisy has been good. A good daughter, helping out with her autistic younger brother uncomplainingly. A good friend, even when her best friend makes her feel like a third wheel. When her parents announce they’re sending her brother to an institution—without consulting her—Daisy’s furious, and decides the best way to be a good sister is to start being bad. She quits jazz band and orchestra, slacks in school, and falls for bad-boy Dave.

But one person won’t let Daisy forget who she used to be: Irish exchange student and brilliant musician Cal. Does she want the bad boy or the prodigy? Should she side with her parents or protect her brother? How can she know when to hold on and when—and how—to let go?

    Alienated

    addtogoodreads

ALIENATED by Melissa Landers will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Disney-Hyperion, the print edition is 352 pages.

ALIENATED is the first book in a new series by Author Melissa Landers. The second book in the series, INVADED, is slated for release on February 3, 2015.

    Dots_Divider

I had the chance to read ALIENATED early and I loved it and can’t wait for my Kindle copy to be added to my collection this week. Though if I spy this book in the bookstore this weekend and its cover is every bit as gorgeous as I think it will be, I may just have to add a print copy to the collection, too.

With the way things ended I’m just dying for the sequel and I can’t believe that’s 365 days from now. It’s too far away!

I loved meeting Cara and Aelyx. I loved the idea of the L’eihr exchange program. I loved discovering all the secrets… or most of them… and I am just so curious about where this story is headed in the next book. Things got pretty crazy there. Like when Cara found… oh, no that’s spoiler-y, not going to continue on with that thought.

If I haven’t lost the ability to wrangle my thoughts, I hope to be able to post a review next week. Of course I don’t plan on revealing any spoiler-y things there, either. But maybe I’ll tease just one or two of my favorite bits.

If that doesn’t happen, maybe when I add this to the pile again for a re-read – because yeah, I totally want to re-read this – I’ll be able to share just why I adore Aelyx, even though….

    Description…

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara’s classmates get swept up by anti-L’eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn’t safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara’s locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she’s fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

    Something Real Cover

SOMETHING REAL by Heather Demetrios will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), the print edition is 416 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I am super excited for the release of SOMETHING REAL this week. I got the chance to read it early and I love, love, LOVED it. But it was a printed ARC and I can’t wait for the finished copy to download to my Kindle.

I am not surprised to hear that it won an award. This story was refreshingly original and such a surprise as it was quite a bit different from what I expected. But it was amazing and heartbreaking and heartwarming and so completely addictive. But not in the way that reality TV is addictive.

There is nothing mindless and empty about this book. The characters are sympathetic and likable and amazing and selfish and cruel and greedy and utterly despicable. But I loved getting to meet them all.

As I have read it recently I won’t be adding it to the pile in the next few, but this is one of those books that’s definitely re-readable and totally collection-worthy.

    Description…

Winner of the 2012 PEN New England Discovery Award!

There’s nothing real about reality TV.

Seventeen-year-old Bonnie™ Baker has grown up on TV—she and her twelve siblings are the stars of one-time hit reality show Baker’s Dozen. Since the show’s cancellation and the scandal surrounding it, Bonnie™ has tried to live a normal life, under the radar and out of the spotlight. But it’s about to fall apart…because Baker’s Dozen is going back on the air. Bonnie™’s mom and the show’s producers won’t let her quit and soon the life she has so carefully built for herself, with real friends (and maybe even a real boyfriend), is in danger of being destroyed by the show. Bonnie™ needs to do something drastic if her life is ever going to be her own—even if it means being more exposed than ever before.

    Ignite Me

    addtogoodreads

IGNITE ME by Tahereh Mafi will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 416 pages.

IGNITE ME is the third and final full-length book in Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me trilogy.

    Dots_Divider

I almost can’t believe that in just a few short hours the final book in the Shatter Me series will be downloading to my Kindle. I am so excited and nervous and anxious and scared and sad and totally terrified about what I might discover in IGNITE ME.

It was the book I chose for my Book Watch post the other week so I really am not going to take the time to ramble here. I don’t think I have the appropriate words at my disposal to talk about how [insert better world than excited here] I am.

But I’m equally as terrified about what’s going to happen. I’m just as sad that this will be the end. I do not want to say goodbye to Warner or Adam or Kenji or Juliette or… anyone. I don’t want to say goodbye to this world, the beautiful writing. I don’t want it all to end.

But I will be reading it the second I get it. I will not let my fear keep me from reaching the end. Even if it means that I will be fighting back tears for the entire read.

    Description…

The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, called “a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love”

Juliette now knows she may be the only one who can stop the Reestablishment. But to take them down, she’ll need the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew-about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam-was wrong.

In Shatter Me, Tahereh Mafi created a captivating and original story that combined the best of dystopian and paranormal and was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping read from an author who’s not afraid to take risks.” The sequel, Unravel Me, blew readers away with heart-racing twists and turns, and New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia said it was “dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense.” Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and climactic end.

Published by HMH Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I love Saundra Mitchell’s writing and pre-order every single book she releases, which includes MISTWALKER. Though until I created this post I hadn’t even read its description.

Though now that I have, I can’t wait for its release.

I am so very curious about this idea of the Grey Man who is really a young man trapped inside a lighthouse and forced to collect a thousand souls. I really hope that Willa doesn’t opt to trade places with him to help her family. But I am super curious as to what would happen if she did.

The description piqued my curiosity but has left me in the dark about what direction this story might take. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it on the pile later this month so I can find out.

    Description…

When Willa Dixon’s brother dies on the family lobster boat, her father forbids Willa from stepping foot on the deck again. With her family suffering, she’ll do anything to help out—even visiting the Grey Man.

Everyone in her small Maine town knows of this legendary spirit who haunts the lighthouse, controlling the fog and the fate of any vessel within his reach. But what Willa finds in the lighthouse isn’t a spirit at all, but a young man trapped inside until he collects one thousand souls.

Desperate to escape his cursed existence, Grey tries to seduce Willa to take his place. With her life on land in shambles, will she sacrifice herself?

Published by Dial, the print edition is 384 pages.

LANDRY PARK is the first book in a new series of the same name by Author Bethany Hagen.

I have heard such amazing things about LANDRY PARK and I can’t wait for my pre-order copy to download. While I haven’t yet discovered Downton Abbey, I am a fan of THE SELECTION and am loving most things dystopia these days.

I can’t wait to meet Madeline Landry, find out whether she marries and runs the family estate as her father dictates or whether what she discovers and who she finds herself drawn to make her ditch her duty and instead choose her desire.

This sounds exactly like the type of story I want to read right now. And while I have a couple of books I’m in the midst of finishing, hopefully I’ll be able to sneak it onto the pile this weekend. If not, it will definitely be on the pile next week.

    Description…

Downton Abbey meets The Selection in this dystopian tale of love and betrayal

In a fragmented future United States ruled by the lavish gentry, seventeen-year-old Madeline Landry dreams of going to the university. Unfortunately, gentry decorum and her domineering father won’t allow that. Madeline must marry, like a good Landry woman, and run the family estate. But her world is turned upside down when she discovers the devastating consequences her lifestyle is having on those less fortunate.

As Madeline begins to question everything she has ever learned, she finds herself increasingly drawn to handsome, beguiling David Dana. Soon, rumors of war and rebellion start to spread, and Madeline finds herself and David at the center of it all. Ultimately, she must make a choice between duty – her family and the estate she loves dearly – and desire.

WILD THINGS is the ninth book in Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series. BLOOD GAMES, the tenth book in the series, is slated for release on August 5, 2014.

    Dots_Divider

Of course I had WILD THINGS pre-ordered. If I could pre-order every single book that remains in the series I would do it right this minute. I love these characters and this series. So I am totally stoked that WILD THINGS will be living on my Kindle in just a few short hours.

I had hoped to finish reading this story on Saturday, but I didn’t get the chance to finish it, though it is a super quick read. I may have gotten distracted by a few real-life things, but I should be finished before my Kindle copy is added to my collection.

As expected it’s an exciting addition to the series. Merit is one of my favorite non-YA heroines and I love getting caught up in her crazy life for a few hours twice a year. While I know that some day this series will end, it won’t be ending anytime soon. And I’m already excited for BLOOD GAMES’ release this summer. Though I am not going to peek at the description until I’m done reading WILD THINGS.

    Description…

Since Merit was turned into a vampire, and the protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House, it’s been a wild ride. She and Master vampire Ethan Sullivan have helped make Cadogan’s vampires the strongest in North America, and forged ties with paranormal folk of all breeds and creeds, living or dead…or both.

But now those alliances are about to be tested. A strange and twisted magic has ripped through the North American Central Pack, and Merit’s closest friends are caught in the crosshairs. Gabriel Keene, the Pack Apex, looks to Merit and Ethan for help. But who—or what—could possibly be powerful enough to out-magic a shifter?

Merit is about to go toe to toe, and cold steel to cold heart, to find out.

    Be With Me Cover

BE WITH ME by J. Lynn will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in paperback and eBook formats BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by William Morrow Paperbacks, the print edition is 384 pages.

BE WITH ME is the second book J. Lynn’s Wait for You series. STAY WITH ME, the third book in the series, is slated for release in September 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I am thrilled that BE WITH ME is releasing this week and that it will be added to my collection some time tonight. While I have the eARC for review and devoured it in one sitting late Friday, I definitely wanted the finished copy for my collection.

It hasn’t been very long since I met these characters in the first book (and its companion) in the series, but I was thrilled to get the chance to get to know them better. And I absolutely adore them both.

And as I will be writing a review for this book this week and rambling probably a bit too much about just why this book is awesome for my post on Friday, I will just say that I never expected to love this book and characters as much as I loved WAIT FOR YOU and its characters, but I did. J. Lynn has this wonderful way of creating stories and characters that are just so easy to love.

Now I just have to survive the long, long wait for September’s release of STAY WITH ME.

It’s another crazy week for YA releases. Heck, it’s a crazy release week all around. I have eight YA books, two non-YA books and one novella (STOLEN) pre-ordered. There’s also the possibility that I have VENGEANCE on my list of pre-orders. If not, I plan on clicking to buy on its release date. That’s a lot to read.

I’m just glad I read a couple of these books and am currently reading a few. But that still leaves way too many TBR, though I will be reading IGNITE ME as soon as it downloads.

I am so glad that next week is much, much quieter. I have so much to do IRL between now and mid-February that I just know I’m going to fall behind on my reads. I am still hoping for “someday” to arrive so that I can finally get the chance to tackle a number of those books on my Kindle that are getting smooshed further and further down into the pile. I recognize, however, that “someday” isn’t going to be any day soon.

Anyway… I wish you a happy bookish acquiring week this week, and am sending out happy book birthday wishes to all the lovely books above. Here’s to another great week of book collecting and reading!

    blue_green_line2

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

DAYLIGHTERS by Rachel Caine will be released in the U.S. on November 5, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by NAL Hardcover, the print edition is 368 pages.

DAYLIGHTERS is the fifteenth and final book in Author Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series.

    Dots_Divider

I cannot believe this series is coming to end with DAYLIGHTERS. I had fallen in love with this series before I started blogging, and once I started blogging it seemed I wasn’t able to keep up with it. But I’ve been buying every single new release in the series with the hope of one day catching up.

Now it’s time to say goodbye. And I’m more than a little bit heartbroken.

I love Rachel Caine’s writing and I love the story and characters in this series. I am so curious as to what’s been happening with them since I last connected with them in GHOST TOWN. And now that this series is coming to an end this Tuesday I’m so very tempted to just start from the beginning and read each of the books until I reach the last one.

Of course I took a peek at this final book’s description. And I’m curious as to what the Daylight Foundation has done to change things so drastically for the Morganville Vampires. It mentions that the truth is “sinister and deadly” and I can’t wait to know just what that means for the vampires.

While I won’t get the chance to catch up on things this fall, I am really hopeful of making this series read (and re-read) a top priority during the holiday season in late December. But even if I can’t get this on the pile at the end of this year, I’m so excited for my Kindle pre-order to download on Tuesday.

    Description…

I feel like I’ve been waiting ages for THE NATURALS by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. And now it’s just a matter of hours before my Kindle pre-order downloads at Monday Midnight. This is the book I’ve been most looking forward to that is releasing this week and I’m so excited for its release.

As I already spotlighted in for my Book Watch post I won’t prattle on about it too much longer. But I will say once more that I adore the author’s writing and I can’t wait to meet Cassie and the other gifted teens in this mystery/thriller.

While I won’t get the chance to get this on the pile this week, I am really hoping I’ll have the chance to add it to my list next week as I don’t want too much time to go by before I meet everyone in the Naturals program and find out just what dangerous game of “cat and mouse” is in store for Cassie.

    Description…

Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come knocking: they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.

What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides— especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own.

Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head—and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.

Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.

    Dots_Divider

I am totally stoked for the release of CURTSIES & CONSPIRACIES. I have the eBook version slated to download on its release date, but I’m thinking of getting the print copy of this book and the first book in the series for my collection because they’re gorgeous in print.

While I haven’t yet finished reading book one, ETIQUETTE & ESPIONAGE, I have started reading it and I think it’s amazing. So I’m already super excited to continue the story in this sequel.

I tried not to take too much of a peek at the description, but I couldn’t help but read the italicized part and it makes me smile. I love that the writing includes a touch of humor and I can’t wait to see just how much is mixed into this next book.

If I do get the chance to finish book one in the next couple of weeks, I will immediately add this sequel to the pile. And my fingers are most definitely crossed that it will happen.

    Description…

Does one need four fully grown foxgloves for decorating a dinner table for six guests? Or is it six foxgloves to kill four fully grown guests?

Sophronia’s first year at Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality has certainly been rousing! For one thing, finishing school is training her to be a spy (won’t Mumsy be surprised?). Furthermore, Sophronia got mixed up in an intrigue over a stolen device and had a cheese pie thrown at her in a most horrid display of poor manners.

Now, as she sneaks around the dirigible school, eavesdropping on the teachers’ quarters and making clandestine climbs to the ship’s boiler room, she learns that there may be more to a school trip to London than is apparent at first. A conspiracy is afoot–one with dire implications for both supernaturals and humans. Sophronia must rely on her training to discover who is behind the dangerous plot-and survive the London Season with a full dance card.

In this sequel to bestselling author Gail Carriger’s YA debut Etiquette & Espionage, class is back in session with more petticoats and poison, tea trays and treason. Gail’s distinctive voice, signature humor, and lush steampunk setting are sure to be the height of fashion this season.

COLD SPELL is the fourth book in the author’s Fairytale Retellings series.

    Dots_Divider

While I own a few of the books in Jackson Pearce’s Fairytale Retellings, I haven’t yet read them. But I’m really excited for COLD SPELL‘s release on Tuesday and for it to download to my Kindle.

I absolutely love Andersen’s “The Snow Queen” and I’m really excited to see what this author has done with the story. The description calls her vision “unique” and it has made me incredibly curious.

I am excited to meet Kai and Ginny and find out whether their love will survive. As I don’t know how closely this story will follow the original, I don’t know whether there will be a happy ending to this tale.

But I’m dying to find out. And hopefully I’ll be able to do so later this month.

    Description…

Kai and Ginny grew up together–best friends since they could toddle around their building’s rooftop rose garden. Now they’re seventeen, and their relationship has developed into something sweeter, complete with stolen kisses and plans to someday run away together.

But one night, Kai disappears with a mysterious stranger named Mora–a beautiful girl with a dark past and a heart of ice. Refusing to be cast aside, Ginny goes after them and is thrust into a world she never imagined, one filled with monsters and thieves and the idea that love is not enough.

If Ginny and Kai survive the journey, will she still be the girl he loved–and moreover, will she still be the girl who loved him?

Jackson Pearce, author of the acclaimed SISTERS RED and FATHOMLESS, has returned with a unique vision of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen,” one about power and redemption, failure and hope, and the true meaning of strength.

I am really excited for CHAMPION‘s release this Tuesday. I have this final book in the series pre-ordered and can’t wait until it downloads to my Kindle. While I haven’t yet read the other two books in the series my plan is to read all three books in the next couple of weeks.

I can’t wait to meet the Legend and the Prodigy and I am super curious to find out who will be Champion. Based on the description and from what I saw in the book’s trailer, I’m not entirely sure this series will end happily. But it sounds like it’s going to be epic. And I’m really in the mood for epic.

I have heard nothing but amazing things about this series and as I’m also desperately in the mood for dystopia, this will be the perfect series to add to the pile. Especially since I won’t have to suffer the long wait between each book’s release and can read them all at once back-to-back-to-back.

    Description…

The explosive finale to Marie Lu’s New York Times bestselling LEGEND trilogy—perfect for fans of THE HUNGER GAMES and DIVERGENT!

    He is a Legend.
    She is a Prodigy.
    Who will be Champion?

June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic—and each other—and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the government’s elite circles as Princeps Elect while Day has been assigned a high level military position. But neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them once again. Just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republic’s border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her country’s defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything he has. With heart-pounding action and suspense, Marie Lu’s bestselling trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion.

    Revelations

    addtogoodreads

REVELATIONS by J.A. Souders will be released in the U.S. on November 5, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Tor Teen, the print edition is 352 pages.

REVELATIONS is the second full-length book in Author J.A. Souders’ The Elysium Chronicles.

    Dots_Divider

I have not yet read the first book in J.A. Souders’ The Elysium Chronicles, but as this series came so highly recommended I decided to pre-order REVELATIONS, which will be downloading to my Kindle on its release date. So I have not yet met Evelyn Winters or Gavin Hunter, but from reading both books’ descriptions I really want to.

I can’t wait to find out why Evie’s memories are gone and why she doesn’t feel like she fits in on the Surface. I am curious as to what caused Gavin’s scars and what will happen to both of them when they journey across the Outlands. The description mentions it may lead them back to where everything started, and I wonder if they’re referring to Elysium.

As I have to read the first book in the series, RENEGADE, before I can read this sequel, I won’t get the chance to get it on the pile for a bit. But I am hopeful I’ll get the chance to read both books before the year ends, and I’m curious as to whether there is a third book planned in this series, or if this is just a duology.

    Description…

Six weeks after her arrival on the Surface, Evelyn Winters is no closer to unlocking the memories lost in her subconscious than she was when she first came. Isolated in a strange new society, Evie has only Gavin Hunter to remind her of who she once was.

But even with a clean slate, it’s easy to see that Evie doesn’t fit in on the Surface. And as her differences make her feel more and more alone, she can’t help but yearn for that place she doesn’t remember: the isolated city hidden in the depths of the ocean. Elysium. Home.

But she can’t exactly tell Gavin what she’s feeling. Not when he’s the one who helped her escape Elysium in the first place, and has the scars to prove it. Though the doctors say otherwise, Gavin believes that Evie just needs time. And if her memories don’t come back, well, maybe she’s better off not remembering her past.

But the decision may be out of their hands when Evie’s ever-elusive memories begin to collide with reality. People and images from her past appear in the most unlikely places, haunting her, provoking her…and making her seem not only strange but dangerous.

Evie and Gavin can’t wait around for her memories to return. They’ll have to journey across the Outlands of the Surface to find help, and in the end, their search may just lead them back to the place it all started…

OLIVIA TWISTED by Vivi Barnes will be released in the U.S. on November 5, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Entangled Teen, the print edition is 352 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I cannot believe that OLIVIA TWISTED is releasing this week and I haven’t yet had the chance to finish reading it. I started reading it ages ago, but due to deadlines with other books and such I wasn’t able to finish it.

But I have the finished version pre-ordered, so I think I will continue reading that version versus the eGalley, which is a bit screwy with the formatting. And I hope that I’ll get to do that this week once the final copy downloads.

What I have read, though, I absolutely loved. And I can’t wait to continue the story, get to find out more about Liv and Z and see exactly how similar in personality some of the characters are to their counterparts in the classic tale.

As Oliver Twist is one of my most favorite classics of all time, I have high expectations for this modernization. So I’m super excited to be able to read the finished version when it downloads to my Kindle on Tuesday.

    Description…

    Olivia

He tilts my chin up so my eyes meet his, his thumb brushing lightly across my lips. I close my eyes. I know Z is trouble. I know that being with him is going to get me into trouble. I don’t care.

At least at this moment, I don’t care.

Tossed from foster home to foster home, Olivia’s seen a lot in her sixteen years. She’s hardened, sure, though mostly just wants to fly under the radar until graduation. But her natural ability with computers catches the eye of Z, a mysterious guy at her new school. Soon, Z has brought Liv into his team of hacker elite—break into a few bank accounts, and voila, he drives a motorcycle. Follow his lead, and Olivia might even be able to escape from her oppressive foster parents. As Olivia and Z grow closer, though, so does the watchful eye of Bill Sykes, Z’s boss. And he’s got bigger plans for Liv…

    Z

I can picture Liv’s face: wide-eyed, trusting. Her smooth lips that taste like strawberry Fanta.

It was just a kiss. That’s all. She’s just like any other girl.

    Except that she’s not.

Thanks to Z, Olivia’s about to get twisted.

There are quite a few more books releasing this week that I have pre-ordered than I remembered ordering. And I think I might also have one or two of the “books of note” pre-ordered, too – PALACE OF SPIES and THE TRAP. But as I’m still in shock that I have seven books pre-ordered, I refuse to check to see if I’ve pre-ordered those too.

I don’t think I missed any books I had on order last week. But I am so excited that SENTINEL is finally available for the Kindle. I think I checked every day until it was available to download and I really hope to get caught up on that series in the next few.

I have been trying to keep my book buying to a minimum given the number of expenses I have IRL at the moment. But it hasn’t been working out so well as I can’t seem to pass up any of the amazing books releasing each week that I want to buy. I currently have over 90 books on my list of pre-orders, but I refuse to cancel a single one. So that’s not exactly helping my finances either.

I think maybe, just maybe, I will need to find a book addicts anonymous group. Though my addiction is not exactly anonymous, is it?

Anyway… I hope the wait for some of these books hasn’t killed you and that saying goodbye to a few of them won’t. This does seem like a tough week for goodbyes, so I hope they’re not too painful.

As always, if you know of a book that I should know about, please let me know. And as ever… Happy bookish buying!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #123

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of May 7th-May 13th that I have pre-ordered.

    addtogoodreads

REBOOT by Amy Tintera will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 384 pages.

REBOOT is the first book in a new series of the same name by author Amy Tintera. The second book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2014.

    Line_001

I am so unbelievably excited that REBOOT is releasing this week. I fell instantly in love with it the second I read the description. And I have major cover love for it, too. So, waiting for its release has been torturous.

I cannot wait to meet Wren Connolly and Callum Reyes. I can’t wait to see just how his humanity turns the “perfect soldier” into someone willing to disobey her orders. And I cannot wait to visit this intriguing world that author Amy Tintera has created.

I have avoided all reviews, but I couldn’t help but hear the tiniest bits of chatter mentioning that this book rocked. So I’m hoping that I’ll be finished with this week’s reads early enough so that I can sneak REBOOT onto the pile this week.

INVISIBILITY by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Philomel, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Line_001

I love Andrea Cremer’s writing and I am so very curious about this joint endeavor with author David Levithan. I’ve had INVISIBILITY pre-ordered since the moment I first learned of its existence and I can’t wait to check it out.

I love books that involve curses. Of course I love stories that include romance. And I can’t wait to find out if Elizabeth and Stephen discover a way to break the curse and just what sacrifice they’ll have to make in order for Stephen to “become visible.”

While I won’t get the chance to take a peek at it this month, I am hopeful of reading INVISIBILITY early next month. Because it’s been awhile since I read anything by author Andrea Cremer and I am definitely going through withdrawal.

THE 5th WAVE is the first book in a new series of the same name by author Rick Yancey. The second and third books in the series are currently untitled and slated for release in August 2014 and August 2015, respectively.

    Line_001

There has been a ton of buzz about Rick Yancey’s THE 5th WAVE, all of it positive, so I just had to pre-order it for my Kindle. Even though I haven’t read either THE PASSAGE or ENDER’S GAME, which the description compares this book to.

But any book that is billed as “epic” is one I have to check out. And when its description mentions that “only darkness remains” and “only the unlucky survive,” how could I not want to read it?

I more than want to read it. I desperately want to do so. And I’m so very hopeful of being able to meet Cassie and the “[b]eguiling and mysterious” Evan Walker in the next week or two.

I cannot believe THE END GAMES is releasing this week. I had so hoped to read it early, but that didn’t happen. This book is yet another one of those books I consider must reads. It sounds so chilling and awesome.

As I’ve spotlighted it for my Book Watch post, I won’t ramble on endlessly, especially as this post is long, but I will just say that this book is one I’m so eager to dive into. I want to find out how The Game changes, how The Bellows, evolve and just what The Game Master is up to.

While I won’t get the chance to read THE END GAMES this week, there’s no way I’m going to let the month end without having read it.

IF I SHOULD DIE is the third, and final, book in the Revenants series by author Amy Plum.

    Line_001

After having just recently read UNTIL I DIE, I don’t think I’m more anxious for any book’s release than IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum. I absolutely love the author’s stories about the Revenants and I cannot wait to find out what happened after that killer ending.

And from reading those excerpts on the IF I SHOULD DIE Blog Tour, I am even more desperate to continue the story. Which I hope to do when my eBook downloads on Monday Midnight.

Because I want to know why Jules and Kate are in New York. I want to know what happens with the traitor. And I want to know how this series ends.

ICONS by Margaret Stohl will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, large print paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE. It will be available in audiobook format on July 16, 2013.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 448 pages.

ICONS is the first book in author Margaret Stohl’s new series of the same name. The second book in the series, currently untitled, is expected in 2014.

    Line_001

ICONS is another book I wanted to read before its release, but due to the umpteen books I needed to read first, it just didn’t happen. But I have ICONS pre-ordered and I will be reading it just as soon as my schedule frees up a bit.

I am so very fascinated by the first line of the description which mentions that “[y]our heart beats only with their permission.” I’m curious to find out why Dol is so different. And I’m excited to discover this world in which Earth is at the mercy of the Icons.

The description promises a story that is “heart-pounding” in a world that is “haunting” and I cannot wait to finally get the chance to discover it for myself. Something I plan to do a bit later this month.

Published by NAL Hardcover, the print edition is 352 pages.

FALL OF NIGHT is the fourteenth book in the Morganville Vampires series. The fifteenth book, DAYLIGHTERS, is slated for release on November 5, 2013.

    Line_001

I am seriously behind on this series. But I own every single book and I do plan on catching up on it this year. Hopefully by the time the fifteenth book is released. But I have FALL OF NIGHT pre-ordered and I’m super excited to add it to my collection when it releases this week.

Although I shouldn’t have, I couldn’t help but take a peek at the description. And now I’m even more excited to get caught up. Because in this installment it seems that Claire leaves Morganville and has an entire adventure far away from this Texas town and its resident vamps.

I’m very curious about her experiments and just what happens with her human test subjects to make her question whether leaving Morganville was such a good thing.

While I won’t be reading FALL OF NIGHT in the next few months, I am so very hopeful that I’ll have gotten caught up on this series by the end of October so that when DAYLIGHTERS releases in early November I’ll be ready to dive in.

    Dead Ever After

    addtogoodreads

DEAD EVER AFTER by Charlaine Harris will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover, audio and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Ace Hardcover, the print edition is 352 pages.

DEAD EVER AFTER is the thirteenth and final full-length book in the author’s Sookie Stackhouse series. AFTER DEAD: What Came Next in the Word of Sookie Stackhouse, is due out on October 29, 2013.

    Line_001

I’m a mix of relieved and sad to see this series end. I loved the first nine books but have fallen a bit out of love with the story for the past few installments. Though I do have DEAD EVER AFTER pre-ordered in both eBook format and a special signed edition from Barnes & Noble.

But after having the ending spoiled for me by a commentator on my other blog, I’m not sure when I will be reading this last installment. I may just pretend that this series ended with book nine.

Eric the Northman is one of my favorite vampire characters and I’ve adored Sookie for many of the books she’s been in. Even with the head-shaking decisions she’s made. And while I am a fan of the True Blood series on HBO, that series has not in any way changed my feelings about Mr. Bill Compton, [insert derogatory term here], vampire extraordinaire.

So learning, just yesterday, that the author originally planned for a different fate for him and altered that due to pressures because of that show, it has made me a little less enthusiastic toward the series. Because I would have loved for the author’s original idea to have been a part of her story.

My feelings are definitely conflicted, so I don’t plan on reading DEAD EVER AFTER until the chatter dies down. But I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to read it and find out just how the story ends for these characters I’ve known and loved for years, eventually. Even if the ending isn’t one I’d wished for Sookie.

MYSTIC by Alyson Noel will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 320 pages.

MYSTIC is the third book in Alyson Noel’s Soul Seekers series. The fourth book in the series, HORIZON, is slated for release on November 19, 2013

    Line_001

I have yet to get started on Alyson Noel’s Soul Seekers series but I’ve purchased each of the books so that I eventually can read them all at once. As I’m not sure how many books are planned in the series, it might be awhile before MYSTIC ends up on my reading pile. But it will definitely be part of my collection when it downloads on Tuesday.

I very much enjoyed the author’s The Immortals series. And I thought her middle grade spin-off series was absolutely delightful. So I’m very excited about reading her latest endeavor and meeting Daire Santos.

I did take a peek at the description since I figure that by the time I do read it, I’ll have forgotten what I’ve read. And it sounds incredibly exciting. With someone’s fate hanging in the balance and someone else who plans on destroying the world and everyone Daire loves, this third book in the series sounds so very suspenseful.

Which makes me glad that I will be waiting until each of the books has released before reading them so that I won’t have to wait to continue the story.

This week is absolutely INSANE! There are just way too many amazing books releasing this week, that I have no idea how I’m going to clear them all off the pile without a reading marathon of some kind.

I am so excited for THE 5th WAVE, REBOOT, THE END GAMES, ICONS and IF I SHOULD DIE. And there are a few books that are on my radar that I haven’t yet purchased, like TREMBLE, THE S-WORD, THE ORIGINALS, CHANTRESS and THE LUCY VARIATIONS. All of which I am so very tempted by.

As this post is excessively long I just have to keep this sign-off brief. Because with nine books downloading on Monday Midnight, none of which I’ve yet read, I need to get to the books currently on pile so that I can make some room.

Besides, with all the bookish information above, I doubt you’re interested in hearing me ramble.

    So….

I hope you have some amazing titles to add to your collection this week. And I hope that if you’ve missed a few, this post has put them back on your radar.

If any of the books are ones you’ve been anxiously awaiting, I’d love to hear which ones they are! And if, for some reason, there is another book releasing this week that I’ve missed, please let me know. Because I hate missing out on awesome new releases, even if there are a ton of books already being added to my collection.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Blogoversary Guest Post: Amy of My Overstuffed Bookshelf

It’s almost over. Of course now I’m getting a little sentimental about it being almost over. I mean, who knows if I’ll be one of those lucky bloggers that makes it to a third blogoversary? A lot can happen in one year….

Well, today’s post was going to be the final one as I was going to combine the remaining bloggers’ posts. But then I wouldn’t be able to wrap things up in the way I wanted to without the post getting way too long…. I do so love to ramble.

So I decided to extend things just one more day so that I could ramble and feature the remaining bloggers without the post seeming endless. And so today I’m turning the blog over to the super awesome Amy of the very stunningly gorgeous blog My Overstuffed Bookshelf to share a couple of tips.

But as always, before I do that, for just a little background….

I can’t remember when I first “met” amy online. I’d seen her blog long before we first said “hi!” But I know we talked a bit during the 2011 YA Crush Tourney when I was filling up my timeline on Twitter with my numerous “Vote for Tod” tweets. I’m actually surprised she didn’t give me an “unfollow.”

Of course I’m even more surprised that she agreed to be a part of my blogoversary.

But I was amazed by her blog, My Overstuffed Bookshelf. It was so pretty. And purple. And rich with content. She’d been around so much longer than I had and I was in awe. I still am. Because I don’t know how she could do this for as long as she has.

So, I’ll leave that to her to answer….

When Fiktshun, aka Rachel, invited me to join in the celebration for her blog’s anniversary, I was thrilled. I admit, I was slow getting back to her, but I think she forgives me since she is posting this. 🙂

    Do not second guess yourself!

One piece of advice that even after 3 1/2 years blogging, I still struggle with.

You are doing your blog for your own reasons. My blog was established because I was tired of my family rolling their eyes at me when I went on and on about a new book I had read. I found out about blogs, and decided to at least tell my computer screen about the books. What would it hurt right? Then I found other bloggers. Blogs who had thousands of readers. I wanted to reach those readers as well, but I would have been happy with just one person reading my thoughts.

Now that my blog has been around for a few years, I sometimes second guess myself about many things. Are my reviews good enough? What am I doing wrong and what am I doing right? Then I take a deep breath and realize my blog is just that. Mine. I have to remember that I started it for myself and to share my emotions about a book. While there are still times I second guess myself, there are times like this that let me know that friendships mean even more. Thank you for reading my blog. Thank you for keeping me sane while I flip out over a book. Simply put – thank you.

Do not let a genre define who you are on your blog!

Limiting yourself to just one genre of books is like limiting yourself to only one type of food.

On my blog, I review all across the board. My reading taste is ever changing. I could read a young adult book about vampires one minute, then turn around and read a sexy erotic book the next. I like to read reviews from others who aren’t afraid to widen their reading ranges. That is why when I started my blog, I made sure not to imply in the title or catch phrase targeting one specific genre. There is a whole world of books out there. Why stay in only one place?

Thank you to Rachel for inviting me to join in the fun.

To help celebrate, I am giving away a $10 Amazon gift card to one lucky person.

It is almost impossible not to second guess yourself. It’s something I do frequently…. Well, maybe a little more often than that. Try, all the time! Should I publish this post? Should I change my review style? Should I word something differently? Should I just keep my mouth shut? Should I shut down a few of my blogs? Should I not?

I would have hoped by year two that I’d feel like I knew what I was doing. I’m so relieved to know that even beyond the three year mark there can still be doubts.

And you picked such a great title for you blog. While it does confine you to talking books and bookish things, it is a book blog after all. But you definitely didn’t restrict the types of reads you can discuss. So if your reading tastes do vary or change you don’t have to rebrand your blog!

While I’m stuck talking fiction on my blog, I don’t see myself reviewing books in non-fiction so fortunately it’s not a problem. At least not yet….

But thank you so much Amy for sharing your advice and expertise! You have been around longer than almost any blogger I know. And the fact that you not only have stuck around, but you’ve been at it successfully for as long as you have is amazing!

    Anyway….

If for some odd reason you haven’t yet “met” Amy, you can find her here!

So I asked Amy what her favorite read was these past couple of months and she mentioned EASY by Tammara Webber. But as I am already giving that away this blogoversary, she chose another one of my favorite author’s books.

So, I am offering up for giveaway – to be ordered from Amazon or The Book Depository depending upon location – to two winners a copy of BITTER BLOOD by Rachel Caine.

Enter in the Rafflecopter below, and all my usual giveaway rules apply. (See my giveaway policy if you have any questions.)

AND… If you’d like to enter Amy’s giveaway for the $10 Amazon Gift Card, say so in the comments and I’ll run your names through Random to choose a winner when the bookish giveaway closes.

The winner for the AMAZON GC is Christina K. Christina, I’ll contact you to confirm the email address you’d like to provide to Amy to send the Amazon giftcard. Thanks so much for leaving a comment for Amy and stopping by my blogoversary event!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #97

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of November 6th-November 12th that I have pre-ordered.

Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor released in the U.S. today, November 6, 2012, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 528 pages.

Days of Blood & Starlight is the second book in author Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke & Bone series. The third book in the series, as yet untitled, is due out in 2013.

    ***

I am so excited that DAYS OF BLOOD & STARLIGHT is finally available. I waited to read the first book in the series just so I wouldn’t have to suffer the wait between books and now I don’t.

This sequel is one of the books I spotlighted for my Book Watch post last month because it sounds so amazing and because I’ve been anxiously awaiting its release for the past twelve months or so.

I am so curious to see just what happens with Karou in this sequel, though I do have somewhat of an idea as I couldn’t help but read an awesome review. I want to meet these characters, I want to be “filled with heartbreak” and I want to read this book the description says is intense and rich and colorful.

And even though I had another book on my reading pile this week, I’m going to have to go off pile to start this awesome series. Because I just can’t wait anymore.

Bitter Blood by Rachel Caine released in the U.S. today, November 6, 2012, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by NAL Hardcover, the print edition is 416 pages.

Bitter Blood is the 13th book in the author’s The Morganville Vampires series. The 14th book is entitled Fall of Night and is slated for release on May 7, 2013. The 15th book in the series, due out in November 2013, is currently untitled.

    ***

This latest installment in The Morganville Vampires series sounds so awesome that I was super thrilled when it downloaded to my Kindle. While I am a bit behind on this series, there is no way I could resist the chance to pre-order BITTER BLOOD when it was made available.

And while I am not caught up on this series, I plan on getting caught up in the next few months. Because I have to know just how things ended up as they have in this installment, with the vamps and humans practically ready to do battle. Even if it means they could end up on the news.

I want to know just what Claire and her friends have to do to “keep the peace” and I want to find out if they’ll be able to keep things hidden from the TV show that arrived in town to search for ghosts.

I can’t wait to get back to this world that I love and see what latest challenge Claire Danvers has to face. And if all goes as planned, I hope to find out this winter.

Sirens by Janet Fox will be released in the U.S. on November 8, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Speak, the print edition is 384 pages.

Sirens is the third book in author’s Faithful series. The fourth book in the series is entitled Paradise.

    ***

I was only recently made aware of the release date for this third book in author Janet Fox’s Faithful series, SIRENS. But when I read its description last month I instantly pre-ordered it. Though if I had seen the tagline first, it would have completely sold me before I even read one word of the description.

I love that each book in this series has a different main character. And I can’t wait to meet Jo and be taken back in time to her world, to Manhattan in the Prohibition Era with bootleggers, gangsters and molls.

I want to find out just what secrets Jo uncovers that would “threaten an empire” and I can’t wait to find out whether her story will end happily or in ruin. As SIRENS releases later this week, fortunately I don’t have much longer to wait.

    [UPDATE]

Easy by Tammara Webber was released in the U.S. today, November 6, 2012, in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Berkley Trade, the print edition is 336 pages.

Easy was originally self-published on May 24, 2012.

    ***

I was so unbelievably thrilled when I found out that EASY by Tammara Webber was being published by Berkley Trade. While I already had the self-published version on my Kindle, I just had to pre-order the traditionally published version. And since it wouldn’t let me get the new version for the Kindle, I decided to pre-order the print edition.

And it showed up in my mailbox today. A total surprise. Which is why I forgot to include it in my list of pre-ordered books earlier, as I only check my digital pre-orders when creating this post. But I’m so glad I bought the print edition as it’s so unbelievably gorgeous.

And I can’t wait to read it… or I should say finish reading it. Because I know this book is amazing. I know the author is a gorgeous and brilliant writer. I know this story is beautiful and painful and heartbreaking. And that this will be one of those books that stick with me forever.

I am so happy that it’s a quiet week for releases. Maybe it was planned that way so us Wrimos won’t fail when tempted with all sorts of yummy new releases. Or maybe not. Because I am really dying to read DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE so I can read DAYS OF BLOOD & STARLIGHT. Ugh. So tempted.

I am also super sad I’ve fallen so far behind on all the books in The Morganville Vampires series as I love that series. I’m thinking I may do a re-read of the first nine books and catch up with all the rest this winter just for fun. Because I miss those marathon reads where I don’t stress about reviews. And that series is absolutely adorable.

And I must check out this book I recently discovered, Flash Point by Nancy Kress. While I haven’t pre-ordered it, I may end up buying it this week as it sounds really cool.

    Anyway…

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #70

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of May 1st-May 7th that I have pre-ordered.

    ***

Black Dawn by Rachel Caine will be released in the U.S. on May 1, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by New American Library (NAL), the print edition is 384 pages.

Black Dawn is the twelfth book in author Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series.

    ***

I just keep falling farther and farther behind on this series! I think I have to have a Morganville Vampires readathon just to get caught up. I absolutely love this series and I keep buying all the books with the hope of reading them and yet I haven’t been able to. Must remedy that.

I miss Claire and Shane and Michael. And I want to head back to Morganville to find out what adventures they’ve been on, what enemies they’ve had to face and what has changed since I last visited.

Even though I’m not caught up on the series, I still can’t wait for Black Dawn to download to my Kindle on Monday Midnight. And yes, I did take a peek at the description. And yes, I think this one sounds amazing. It promises that “…intrigue, romance and nail-biting suspense” will be taken to new heights. I’m already intrigued and I love all of those things.

I really hope to catch up on the series through this latest installment before the next book in the series, Bitter Blood, is released later this year.

Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready will be released in the U.S. on May 1, 2012 in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in all formats.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 416 pages.

Shine is the third and final book in the Shade trilogy by author Jeri Smith-Ready.

    ***

I had the chance to read Shine just a little bit early and I tried. I really, really tried. But I’m absolutely terrified of how this series is going to end. Just having read the beginning had me all tied up in knots with worry.

I’m horrible at reading series ending books. I’m almost never ready to say goodbye to my favorite characters. And I really, really don’t want to say goodbye to Logan Keeley. Shine will be downloading to my Kindle and I hope to muster up the courage to read it shortly after release, but I may try to prolong the inevitable for just a bit longer.

Although I really want to find out about Aura’s past. I want to know more about the Shift. I want to see just what happens to Zach. And I want to find out just what the description means when it says that Aura will have to betray her own heart.

I have heard this book is absolutely amazing by everyone who’s read it. So, if I can prepare myself for heartbreak, tears and an exciting but incredibly nerve-wracking read, I will be adding Shine back onto the pile in May.

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins will be released in the U.S. on May 1, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 464 pages.

Sweet Evil is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren and is one of my original picks.

    ***

I can’t believe it’s finally here! Sweet Evil will be releasing on Tuesday, which means I’ll have my eBook available to re-read on my Kindle on Monday Midnight. Though I really hope to receive my print copy on Tuesday, too.

Sweet Evil was my most anticipated 2012 debut and having read it (twice) and reviewed it, I already know just how awesome and well worth the wait it is. Anna Whitt and Kaidan Rowe are the characters to meet. She’s just so good and he’s just so very, very bad. And their story is wicked, addictive, exciting, nerve-wracking and riveting. All those things and so much more.

As I have already spotlighted Sweet Evil for my Book Watch post I won’t go on and on and on and on. Though I really, really want to. But I will just say that this story about children of the fallen is so very different and tantalizing and utterly fascinating. And I can’t wait to read it again.

Insurgent by Veronica Roth will be released in the U.S. on May 1, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 544 pages.

Insurgent is the second book in the Divergent series by author Veronica Roth. The third book in the series, as yet untitled, is slated for release in 2013.

    ***

I had the great fortune to read Insurgent just a bit early thanks to Jaime and Patricia of Two Chicks On Books, who loaned me their ARC. I’m still recovering. Still. And I will be for quite awhile.

I have the eBook pre-ordered to download from Amazon but I may have ordered a print copy to help free Four also. I guess I’ll find out on Tuesday.

This follow up is absolutely amazing. I don’t think the author could have done a better job building upon her characters and her world for this sequel. As I have already reviewed it, I won’t continue to ramble too much. But yes, war is looming as the description promises. Yes, it is a “thrill ride.” And yes, there are most definitely “heartbreaks” and “twists.” Oh those twists. They’re killer.

I can’t wait to re-read Insurgent when I get my finished copy. I’d love to sneak it in later this week if I can somehow find the time. Because I am not quite ready to say goodbye for another year until book three’s release.

Destined by Aprilynne Pike will be released in the U.S. on May 1, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 320 pages.

Destined is the fourth and final book in the Wings series by author Aprilynne Pike.

    ***

I hated saying goodbye to the Wings series by Aprilynne Pike. I hadn’t known that Destined was the last book in the series when I first added it to my reading pile. But I am happy to have the finished copy scheduled to download to my Kindle to join the first three books in the series this week. I just wish there were a few more books as I’m sad to see this series end.

This has been such a magical series. And Destined is no exception, though it was much more action-packed than the earlier books. Which I loved. I was fortunate to get an ARC through a trade, which I just had to read and review early because I just couldn’t wait to find out how this series ended.

As I have read it and can’t guess as to what might happen with Tamani, David and Laurel and just what Avalon’s fate is, since I already know what happened, I will simply reveal what I can about Destined….

It’s bittersweet. Definitely bittersweet. There is loss. There is heartbreak. There is action, action and so much more action. And there’s an ending that wraps things up without any real loose ends. I thought it ended perfectly. But tormenting? Oh yes. The entire read puts your emotions on one huge roller coaster. And the ending, well… I’ll leave that a mystery.

I agree with the description that it’s a “stunning conclusion” and I can’t wait to re-read this entire series in the near future.

Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris will be released in the U.S. on May 1, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Ace, the print edition is 336 pages.

Deadlocked is the twelfth book in the Southern Vampires series by author Charlaine Harris.

I’m sneaking in a non-YA title into the post because I am such a fan of this series, though I don’t always list my non-YA book purchases on the blog. But I am so excited this next book in the Southern Vampires series is releasing this week I just couldn’t help myself.

I will be reading Deadlocked on release day when it downloads to my eReader because I have to find out just what happens next with… you guessed it… Eric Northman. Especially since he seems to be in some trouble in this next installment with a body turning up in his yard.

I’m even more worried that Sookie and Bill seem to be teaming up to solve the crime. Very, very worried, actually.

I can’t wait to find out who Sookie’s newest enemy is, or if it’s an old enemy that’s come back into the picture. I can’t wait to see where things go with Sookie and Eric and I hope, hope, hope that nothing rekindles between her and Bill.

This series has gotten a bit darker with each book, so I can’t wait to find out if this one is even more grim. And I will most definitely be devouring it this week.

Wanted by Heidi Ayarbe will be released in the U.S. on May 1, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 400 pages.

I am so curious about this book. I first heard about Wanted when I was offered a copy in a trade. And even though I haven’t yet read the ARC, I still decided to pre-order it for my Kindle. Because it sounds awesome.

I don’t believe I’ve ever read a story about a teenage bookie. And I most certainly have not read one that has elements of a Robin Hood story thrown into the mix. I can’t wait to meet Michal, the bookie who goes against her better judgment and places a bet. A losing bet which pushes her to crime in order to repay it.

This book sounds dark, it sounds exciting, it sounds thrilling. And I can’t wait to check it out this month.

Revived by Cat Patrick will be released in the U.S. on May 1, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 352 pages.

I received an early copy of Revived as a gift from another blogger. I thought I had all the time in the world to read it, but apparently I didn’t. I haven’t yet read it and with release date right around the corner I may end up reading the Kindle version I have pre-ordered instead.

I think this story sounds absolutely creepy, though I have a feeling it will also be quite thought provoking. A government manufacturing a drug that will bring people back from the dead is totally creepy and it gives me the chills. And just knowing that the main character, Daisy Appleby, has been Revived several times in the past few years makes me a little bit horrified for her.

I can’t wait to find out what the bigger picture is and whether morality will win out in the end. I’m not too hopeful, but I am curious. And I’m dying to find out just what will happen to Daisy who’s had to reinvent herself time and time again.

I really hope to read this in the coming weeks, though I haven’t decided whether or not to read the ARC or the finished copy.

This is the second of three huge release weeks in a row. I don’t know how I’m going to make a dent in my TBR pile if I continue adding this many books each week. While I only have eight books pre-ordered, the two books of note I’ve mentioned in this post are books that I will be buying, I just haven’t pre-ordered them.

Fortunately I have read a few of the books releasing this week. The only problem is that while they’re not technically TBR, a couple of them are books I want to re-read. So that means the pile is still pretty high.

Maybe I should take a short break from making any new bookish purchases. Though I don’t think it’s a very realistic goal for me. I suppose I’ll just have to read faster….

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
