Book Watch: Releasing This Week #165

    BookWatch_week

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of February 25th-March 3rd that I have pre-ordered.

    White Hot Kiss

    goodreads2

WHITE HOT KISS by Jennifer L. Armentrout will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 400 pages.

WHITE HOT KISS is the first full-length novel in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s The Dark Elements series. The second full-length book, STONE COLD TOUCH, is slated for release in November 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I am so excited for this new series by author Jennifer L. Armentrout and can’t wait for my Kindle copy of WHITE HOT KISS to download on Monday Midnight. While I just recently grabbed an eARC, I wasn’t able to read it prior to its release but I will be reading the finished copy in the next couple of weeks.

I love that the main character in this story is part demon, part gargoyle. And I’m curious to learn how she manages to hide her darker nature. But I’m most interested in finding out whether a love triangle will develop between Layla, Zayne and Roth. This author really knows how to write angsty romance.

Plus, with the prospect of a demon uprising and the end of the world, this new series sounds awesome and I can’t wait to read it. I just have to decide whether or not to read the novella first.

    Description…

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

    Fire & Flood

    goodreads2

FIRE & FLOOD by Victoria Scott will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Scholastic Press, the print edition is 320 pages.

FIRE & FLOOD is the first book in Author Victoria Scott’s new series of the same name. The second book in the series is currently untitled.

    Dots_Divider

I am so excited that FIRE & FLOOD releases this week and that everyone will get the chance to read it. I can’t wait for the finished copy to download to my Kindle, especially as my eARC is a little mixed up and I’m definitely planning on reading this story again.

As I’ve already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post and I just posted my review for this earlier today, I don’t think I should ramble on and on about it. But it was a wonderful surprise. I absolutely loved the Pandoras – and Tella and Guy. And I really can’t wait for the sequel to come out.

It was such a great read that I’m hoping to be able to read it again in early April when I take my sailing class that will leave me on a boat for two nights with nothing but a Kindle to keep me company. It’s just one of those stories that you can easily get lost in and I have a feeling I’m going to need it.

    Book watch

    Description…

A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother’s life—and her own.

Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can’t determine what’s wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She’s lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she’s helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It’s an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother’s illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there’s no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can’t trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

    Grim cover

    goodreads2

GRIM by Christine Johnson, Kimberly Derting, et al will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON (HC)/AMAZON (eBook) and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 480 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I absolutely love fairy tales and can’t wait for GRIM‘s release this week. I grabbed an eARC for review for the tour I’ll be on later this week and I read the two stories I have for my stop and loved them. But I can’t wait for the finished copy to download so I can read a few more.

Part of the fun with this anthology is trying to determine which stories relate to which fairy tales. Part of it is being able to experience each of these long favored stories in a new way, with a new voice.

I don’t typically read anthologies from cover to cover, but whenever I have a few moments to spare I will definitely be picking this up and checking out one or two.

    Description…

Inspired by classic fairy tales, but with a dark and sinister twist, Grim contains short stories from some of the best voices in young adult literature today: Ellen Hopkins, Amanda Hocking, Julie Kagawa, Claudia Gray, Rachel Hawkins, Kimberly Derting, Myra McEntire, Malinda Lo, Sarah Rees-Brennan, Jackson Pearce, Christine Johnson, Jeri Smith Ready, Shaun David Hutchinson, Saundra Mitchell, Sonia Gensler, Tessa Gratton, Jon Skrovan.

    The Secret Diamond Sisters

    goodreads2

THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS by Michelle Madow will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 400 pages.

THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS is the first book in a new series by Author Michelle Madow. The second book in the series, DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH, is slated for release on October 28, 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I received an ARC for review of THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS but I also pre-ordered a copy for my Kindle to show my support for the author. It was a super quick read and a lot of fun.

As the description is very cryptic I don’t want to say too much about what happens in this book. And as I plan on writing and posting a review this week, schedule permitting, I don’t want to end up sounding too redundant.

But it was a light and entertaining read with a chance to get to know a few of the characters through a story told in multiple point’s of view. And as it’s just the first book in a series, I’m curious to see where things are headed.

    Description…

    Savannah. Courtney. Peyton.

The three sisters grew up not knowing their father and not quite catching a break. But it looks like their luck is about to change when they find out the secret identity of their long-lost dad—a billionaire Las Vegas hotel owner who wants them to come live in a gorgeous penthouse hotel suite. Suddenly the Strip’s most exclusive clubs are all-access, and with an unlimited credit card each, it should be easier than ever to fit right in. But in a town full of secrets and illusion, fitting in is nothing compared to finding out the truth about their past.

    Faking Normal

    goodreads2

FAKING NORMAL by Courtney C. Stevens will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 336 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I have long been awaiting the release of FAKING NORMAL, ever since I first heard about it ages and ages ago. And I was so totally excited that it would be downloading to my Kindle this week until I noticed that I had apparently grabbed an eARC and could have read it already – though even if I had known, I would be just as anxiously awaiting this in its final format.

The description and this book’s title make me just so curious about what happened to Alexi and Bodee and how they are able to help each other. It promises a story that is “searing” and “poignant” which makes me even more intrigued by it. I am expecting a story with characters I will either sympathize or empathize with and possibly one that will break my heart a little.

While this next week is going to be absolutely crazy IRL, I really hope to get this on the pile during the first two weeks in March.

    Description…

An edgy, realistic, and utterly captivating novel from an exciting new voice in teen fiction.

Alexi Littrell hasn’t told anyone what happened to her over the summer. Ashamed and embarrassed, she hides in her closet and compulsively scratches the back of her neck, trying to make the outside hurt more than the inside does.

When Bodee Lennox, the quiet and awkward boy next door, comes to live with the Littrells, Alexi discovers an unlikely friend in “the Kool-Aid Kid,” who has secrets of his own. As they lean on each other for support, Alexi gives him the strength to deal with his past, and Bodee helps her find the courage to finally face the truth.

A searing, poignant book, Faking Normal is the extraordinary debut novel from an exciting new author-Courtney C. Stevens.

They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.

Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?

From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

There are an insane number of books releasing this week, but as of right now I only have five YA titles pre-ordered and two non-YA titles (HOUSE OF GLASS and FIFTY FIRST TIMES). But I’m pretty sure I’ll be grabbing books by Jessica Brody, Elizabeth Eulberg, Seth Fishman, and maybe one or two others before the week ends.

Things only get more crazy over the next month in terms of book releases, which makes me think I need to find a different way to create these posts as between researching releases, writing down my thoughts and posting all the details, they take anywhere from six to eight hours to create… more if I end up with close to ten books I’m pre-ordering.

My wallet is still not happy as I often acquire books mid-week. But at least all those charges don’t hit on one day.

I can’t wait to start reading WHITE HOT KISS by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I was hoping to get the chance to read it early, but my reading pile was just too crowded by the time I got my hands on a copy. And I can’t believe I forgot that I had an advance copy of FAKING NORMAL or I definitely would have read that pre-release.

Oh well… finished copies are always better, right?

Anyway… I hope that you get your hands on a copy of one or more of the awesome books releasing this week. Today’s topic is…

    Best Book Covers of 2013

Last year’s picks were all about the beautiful ladies. I’m happy to say that this year’s picks are a little more varied and interesting in addition to being visually stunning. And while I named quite a few 2013 covers in my post last year, not all of them ended up being on my top ten list due to the fact that I am really trying so very hard to keep it at just the ten.

I am not even going to begin to name 2014 covers that I think are gorgeous. I will leave that for next year. But I did have to share just a few peeks in gallery form of other amazing 2013 book covers that I loved.

Now, without any further ado, here are those…

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #113

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of February 26th-March 4th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    The Goddess Inheritance

THE GODDESS INHERITANCE by Aimee Carter will be released in the U.S. on February 26, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 304 pages.

THE GODDESS INHERITANCE is the third (and final?) full-length novel in Aimee Carter’s The Goddess Test series.

    Line_001

think that THE GODDESS INHERITANCE is the final book in the Goddess Test series. I’m not sure I want it to be, but I think it is. While I may be a little behind on the series, I love the characters – yes I love Henry – and I can’t wait to read this next installment.

I did end up taking just a small peek at the description and I cannot believe the choice that Kate must face in this book. For those who are behind on this series I will say no more, as that description is super revealing about what happened in book two, GODDESS INTERRUPTED.

But I cannot wait to read both of these books back-to-back this March. As soon as I clear a couple more books off the pile I am going to reboot the series and read all three books.

If this is the final book, I hope that Kate and Henry get their happy ending. And I hope that the choice Kate makes doesn’t cost her everything. Although, as this is based on mythology, I’m not entirely certain it is even possible for it to end happily. Those stories always seemed to end tragically.

And even though I won’t get the chance to read this for a few more weeks, I’m super stoked that my copy will be downloading to my Kindle on Tuesday.

    Dualed

DUALED by Elsie Chapman will be released in the U.S. on February 26, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Random House Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 304 pages.

DUALED is the first book in author Elsie Chapman’s new series of the same name. The sequel, DIVIDED, is slated for release in February 2014.

    Line_001

I can’t believe DUALED is finally releasing this week. When I first noticed this book, which seemed like a lifetime ago, I thought release date was so incredibly far away. Well it’s here. And now I’ll finally be able to take a look at this book that caught my eye those many months ago.

As DUALED was the book I spotlighted for my Book Watch post a few weeks back, I won’t go on and on here. Because I’ve already let it be known that this was the book I was most excited for this week.

I’ll be hiding from all reviews until I’ve had the chance to read it. Because I don’t want my read of this story to be swayed by someone else’s opinion. But if the description holds true and DUALED is as suspenseful and fast-paced and thought-provoking as promised, then there is no way I won’t fall madly in love with this story of “Alternate’s” and the harsh future it imagines.

I am hopeful I’ll be able to sneak in a read of this book in early March.

    The Trouble with Flirting

THE TROUBLE WITH FLIRTING by Claire LaZebnik will be released in the U.S. on February 26, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 336 pages.

    Line_001

I loved reading EPIC FAIL by Claire LaZebnik and so I’m super excited for the release of THE TROUBLE WITH FLIRTING. Of course I’ve had this pre-ordered since the moment I heard about it and I’m hoping to take a peek when it downloads on Tuesday.

This sounds like such a fun and delightful story. The description promises “mixed messages and romantic near-misses” and I cannot wait to see which messages are mixed and just who is sending them. Franny? Alex? Or is it Henry?

I have a feeling that Franny will get herself into just a little bit of trouble in this story, as the title hints. But I’m curious to see if there is a happy ending to her summer romance.

If I don’t get to devour this book in the next couple of weeks, I may take it on vacation with me at the end of March/beginning of April. It sounds like the perfect vacation read.

    Pulse

PULSE by Patrick Carman will be released in the U.S. on February 26, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, the print edition is 384 pages.

PULSE is the first book in author Patrick Carman’s new trilogy of the same name.

    Line_001

I was immediately drawn in by the cover for PULSE and when I received an early copy for review my curiosity was definitely piqued by the description. While I didn’t get the chance to read it prior to its release, I knew I had to pre-order a copy so that I could have this book in my collection.

I love stories dubbed “fantasy-adventure” and ones that promise to be “of epic proportions” are ones that will always find their way onto my radar. I am also, and have been for as long as I can remember, fascinated by telekinesis. So this story sounds like my kind of book.

I can’t wait to meet Dylan and Faith. I can’t wait to see how they both use their abilities. The description hints at action and a love story, but little else, so I’m dying to know just what happens in this first book in the series.

I am going to try and read this next week, especially as a reviewer I trust recommended it to me. Though, if not next week, then definitely the week after.

    The Madness Underneath

THE MADNESS UNDERNEATH by Maureen Johnson will be released in the U.S. on February 26, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 304 pages.

THE MADNESS UNDERNEATH is the second book in author Maureen Johnson’s Shades of London series. The third book in the series is entitled THE SHADOW CABINET.

    Line_001

I have not yet read the first book in this series but I’ve had THE MADNESS UNDERNEATH pre-ordered for quite some time. I don’t know how many books are going to be a part of this series, but I wanted to have this sequel in my collection before I even considered beginning the Shades of London.

I loved getting the chance to read two of Maureen Johnson’s books back-to-back in 2011. And I wanted to be able to do the same with this series which sounds very different from that other one but equally as entertaining… if not more so.

I took a peek at the description – yeah, I can’t seem to help myself this week, can I? – and of course I’m fascinated by the fact that this sequel promises to be filled with “spectacularly gruesome details” and will “keep [me] on the edge of [my] seat until the very end.” I love books that make me cringe, shudder and want to race through them to see just what happens.

So, yeah… I am so unbelievably excited to finally get the chance to read THE NAME OF THE STAR and follow it up instantly with THE MADNESS UNDERNEATH. Even the title of this sequel is wicked, wicked awesome.

If I can’t squeeze these books onto my crowded reading pile in March, then they will definitely top the pile in early April.

    Fragments

FRAGMENTS by Dan Wells will be released in the U.S. on February 26, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 576 pages.

FRAGMENTS is the second book in author Dan Wells’ Partials Sequence series.

    Line_001

I have not read PARTIALS by Dan Wells, but I have heard so many amazing things about it that I had to order the sequel, FRAGMENTS. Not only am I am majorly in love with both covers, but the story itself sounds incredible.

A society on the brink of extinction. A character, Kira, who must make a “desperate decision” to save her race. And not one but two books in this series the descriptions call “pulse-pounding.”

I cannot wait to meet Kira and find out what decision she made. And I cannot wait to see just what will happen to Kira, to the humans, to the Partials, in FRAGMENTS.

I am really, really hoping to be able to devour this series – including the novella, which I also own – this April, even though it sounds like there will be additional books in the series that will force me to wait as anxiously as others have had to wait for FRAGMENTS to be released.

    The Watcher

THE WATCHER by Lisa Voisin officially releases in the U.S. on March 4, 2013 in paperback format. And it is currently available to order online at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Inkspell Publishing, the print edition is 508 pages.

    Line_001

I am so excited for the upcoming release of THE WATCHER by Lisa Voisin next Monday. While the paperback edition is already shipping, I’m hoping that it will be available electronically on March 4th so that I can read it on my Kindle.

If not, I suppose I’ll cave and buy the print edition because this book sounds seriously awesome. And with two of my favorite angel series having ended, I am desperate for a new story to fill the void.

I especially love stories about fallen angels. And a story where an angel fell because of someone sounds all sorts of amazing. If it was for love, that’s the ultimate in swoon-worthiness. If it was for revenge, that’s totally epic.

I cannot wait to meet Mia and Michael. I cannot wait to learn about this “past life of forbidden love, jealousy and revenge.” And I cannot wait to find out whether her story will end happily or end in destruction.

If it does release in eBook format I will definitely be reading this some time next week. If it is only releasing in print, then it’ll be the week thereafter. Either way I cannot wait.

    [End of Update]

    02

And so begins the storm. The calm is over. I have six books pre-ordered, one book I’m definitely ordering on release date, one book I’m waiting for the eBook release of and two other books I just know I’m going to end up buying – SCANDAL, as I own the other books in the series, and ALSO KNOWN AS, because that book looks like a lot of fun.

The fact that I got not one bit of reading done this past weekend has made me very, very, very nervous about the toppling pile of books I already have. With a potential ten… or more… new adds this week alone and I’m freaking out. BIG TIME!

Well, I suppose I’ll just have to keep taking it one book at a time and hope that some day I’ll have all the time in the world to just keep reading. Something I want to do right now. Instead of rambling any further on this post.

    So….

I hope a few of those titles above are ones you have been waiting on and now have less than a day to wait for their release. And I hope that if they are books in a series the wait for the very next installment isn’t too torturous.

And… if you are heading to the bookstore to buy those lovely tomes in print, I wish you luck in finding the reads you want and not getting too carried away with those “impulse buys.”

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #69

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of April 24th-April 30th that I have pre-ordered.

    ***

Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 336 pages.

Masque of the Red Death is the first book in a new series by author Bethany Griffin. The second book, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2013.

    ***

Masque of the Red Death was so unbelievably awesome. Somewhat different from what I expected but way better than what I hoped it would be and just so super cool. I have the ARC but I can’t wait for the finished version to download onto my Kindle so I can re-read it. And I just have to buy a print edition because I know that cover will be amazing.

As I’ve already read it I can’t guess what it will be about, because I already know. But it’s a dark future. The characters are mysterious. Not everything is as it seems. There is a bit of a mystery, a touch of heartbreak and an ending will leave you dying to get your hands on that sequel.

So yeah, as I said… awesome. Araby is fascinating, Elliott is intriguing and Will is so easy to adore. Though I will say no more, other than that I am so excited for this book’s release. I can’t believe release date is finally here.

Ascend by Amanda Hocking will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 336 pages.

Ascend is the final book in the Trylle trilogy by author Amanda Hocking.

    ***

I am still so thrilled with each book’s release in this trilogy. I am such a huge fan of this author and I love seeing her books on the shelves at my local bookstore. While I have read the self-published version, I have a print copy of Ascend pre-ordered. It was my favorite of the series, even though the ending was a topic of much debate among her fans.

Wendy is forced to make a difficult decision in this final book in the series. She has her heart and the Trylle to think about and no matter what way she decides it will cost her. The description is absolutely right when it says that the “stakes have never been higher” and that the “future of her entire world rests in her hands….”

I thought this was the perfect end to an absolutely delightful series. And I thought that Wendy was an amazing heroine who grew stronger with each book. I can’t wait to get this new version of the story to see just how much of a change there is from the original and to check out any extras this book includes. And I can’t wait for it to be delivered on Tuesday!

Social Suicide by Gemma Halliday will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 288 pages.

Social Suicide is the second book in author Gemma Halliday’s Deadly Cool series.

    ***

Although I received a surprise ARC from the publisher I wasn’t able to get caught up on the series in time to read it prior to release. But I do plan on reading both books back to back in the next few weeks. This sequel sounds just every bit as awesome as the first and I can’t wait for my pre-order to download to my Kindle.

I love mystery stories and Social Suicide grabbed me just from its title. But when I read the description, I couldn’t help but be super curious to read this next book in the author’s series. Although dealing with a murder, the idea of solving a crime where the victim was electrocuted while Tweeting sounds kind of hilarious. And from the tone of the description it appears to be just that with a touch or two of sarcasm added to the mix.

The Selection by Kiera Cass will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 336 pages.

The Selection is the first book in a new trilogy by author Kiera Cass and is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

    ***

I fell in love with this cover instantly. It’s why I added The Selection to my pile when choosing books for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge. Well, that and the description. It sounds like it will have all the drama of a reality television show mixed in with the glamour of all things royalty, the magic of a fairytale story and the heartbreak of star-crossed love.

I had received an ARC early on through a trade but knew I wouldn’t get to read it before release date, but I am thrilled that my Kindle pre-order will be downloading this week and that I’ll be able to take a peek at this story that seems to have it all. Excitement, danger, heartbreak, competition and ultimately love.

I can’t wait to meet America Singer and Prince Maxon and see just what never-before-dreamed-of future she could possibly have.

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 512 pages.

The Immortal Rules is the first book in author Julie Kagawa’s Blood of Eden series.

    ***

The Immortal Rules sounds like it has everything I could love in a story and more – an amazing author, a strong heroine, a dark urban/dystopian setting and vampires. The bloodthirsty and deadly kind.

I am heartbroken that I couldn’t read one of the three early copies that landed in my mailbox, but I won’t be waiting too long to read this book that everyone is talking about. Now it’ll just be the finished version I pre-ordered for my Kindle.

I cannot wait to meet Allison Sekomoto and see just what life is like for the people living in the Fringe. And I am just so curious to see how turning into what she hates most will change Allison. I hope she is able to find a cure and I hope that she can pass as human until she does. And I especially can’t wait to meet Zeke.

And once I do, I will definitely check out the Blood of Eden website to find out more.

Eve of Destruction by Patrick Carman will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 288 pages.

Eve of Destruction is the second full-length book in the Dark Eden series by the author.

    ***

I absolutely loved how the first book in the series offered a multimedia experience rather than just the reading experience. I found that discovering the world of Dark Eden through videos and the app injected a whole new level of chills and thrills to the story.

I am super curious to see what the author and publisher do for this next full-length book in the series, Eve of Destruction. I have the book pre-ordered and will definitely try to track down the other media once I’m ready to read it.

I can’t believe that Will Besting and the others who were treated for their fears at Fort Eden are headed back. I hope that they’re able to find a cure and defeat Rainsford. The description promises a “terrifying journey” with an ending that offers the characters redemption. And I am super excited for this next installment. I hope to read it in the next few weeks.

Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 464 pages.

Unraveling is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

    ***

Until I heard the chatter and checked out a few reviews for Unraveling it hadn’t been on my radar, though I did receive a surprise copy for review in the mail. I had heard that this was SciFi, a genre I don’t typically read, but this sounds totally awesome so I just had to add it to my pre-orders.

The description has me intrigued. A girl who is killed and brought back to life. A boy who is responsible for saving her. And the possibility of the world coming to an end. Seriously awesome. Love stories and doomsday are always high on my list of books to be read.

If I can’t sneak this in next week, I will definitely be adding this to the pile before the end of May. I’m just not sure whether I’ll read the ARC or the finished copy on my Kindle.

Thumped by Megan McCafferty will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 304 pages.

Thumped is the sequel to Bumped by author Megan McCafferty.

    ***

I am sad to see this series end. I loved both Bumped and Thumped. I had hoped it would be a trilogy but am happy that a sequel was written that has answers to all of my questions.

When I found out it was available to pre-order, I immediately added Thumped to the list. Long before the ARC showed up in my mailbox. And even though I have read it early, I want the finished copy to add to my collection.

This series surprised me in all the best possible ways. It wasn’t anything like what I expected. It was so much fun but at the same time such a scary possibility for the future.

As I already read it and have written my review, I won’t ramble on for too long. But this sequel answers all those questions that were left hanging about Jondoe, Harmony and Melody and is the perfect sendoff to the series. It’s fun, it’s incredibly entertaining and the pace is super-quick, even with the heavy subject matter.

I can’t wait for the finished copy to download to my Kindle. I definitely plan on re-reading both books back-to-back this summer.

The Temptation by Alisa Valdes will be released in the U.S. in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 320 pages.

The Temptation is the first book in author Alisa Valdes’ The Kindred series.

    ***

Until the ARC showed up in my mailbox I hadn’t heard of The Temptation by Alisa Valdes. But when I read the description I knew that this would be one of those “me” books. Just those first four sentences had me hooked. So, I instantly decided to pre-order it for my Kindle so that I’d have it for my collection.

I didn’t have a chance to read this one early, but I hope to read it in the next couple of weeks. I want to meet Shane and Travis. I want to see just what kind of temptation this “mysterious cowboy” from the Underworld is. I want to find out if they’re willing to risk destroying their souls to break the rules and be together. And I want to find out just how tough it is to resist temptation. Especially if they are kindred souls.

The description promises this first book in the series “will leave readers lusting for more” and I am anxiously anticipating that very thing happening. I can’t wait to finally devour this book that’s been calling out to me from my bookshelf. Though I just might end up reading the finished version on my Kindle when it downloads this week.

The Wind Through the Keyhole by Stephen King will be released in the U.S. on April 24, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Scribner, the print edition is 320 pages.

The Wind Through the Keyhole is a story in the author’s Dark Tower series.

    ***

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King is and always will be my favorite series of all time. When it ended I was devastated. And not just because of that absolutely tormenting ending. So when I heard that there was going to be another book in this world, because the author couldn’t get the world out of his mind, or the world wouldn’t let him, I was ecstatic.

I pre-ordered not only a copy for my Kindle with all the extra features, I pre-ordered the Grant slipcased edition. And while I did receive that copy before release it was just too gorgeous to open. So I’ve had to wait.

Well, deadlines be damned, because I will be reading it on release date. And I won’t be writing a review, though I may post my thoughts about it on one of the blogs. Unless those thoughts are too incoherent to voice.

The only thing I know is that the story will be returning to Mid-World and that Roland will be sharing two stories about his past with the rest of his ka-tet – Susannah, Jake, Eddie and Oy. As visiting Roland’s past was one of my favorite things about this series, I can’t wait to do so again.

I have ten books pre-ordered this week and a couple of them in more than one format. So, it’s a huge week for releases and a tough week for my wallet. Fortunately I have read a few of them or my TBR pile would be suffering just as much.

With a large number of books on next week’s pre-order list, I have a feeling I’ll never be able to dig my way out from under this large stack of books to be read. But maybe if I go on a six month book buying ban in 2013 I could at least make a small dent. Not sure if I can do that, though.

I know there are a few other books releasing this week, two of which I’ve noted above, but I just couldn’t buy more than ten books in one week. Of course if I see another book I must have….

    ***

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    The Extras: October & November

Yes we’re back with this month’s and last month’s “Extras” post. As some of you may already know…

Whenever I find either a legal free download, an excerpt or sneak peek of a book online, I try to link to it in a related post or include the link in my sidebar (to your right).

But once a month I’ll pop them into a post for a “one-stop shop” with a brief description. You may have previously seen some of these in my sidebar and one or two may still be lingering, well here they are once more in case you missed them. (My sidebar tends to have a LOT of info.)

We have a few peeks at upcoming releases, just released books and some of them are just items that have been offered for free for awhile but you might have missed.

    ***

I know I’m a month late with this post, so I’m doing one LONG post combining this month and last month, but better late than never. Especially for free stuff!

    November Peeks

Kiss of Frost by Jennifer Estep will be released in the U.S. on November 29, 2011.

Kiss of Frost is the second full-length book in the Mythos Academy series by the author. Dark Frost, the third book in the series, is slated for release in 2012.

This sounds like an exciting series. Gwen Frost is a warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, a school for “myths, magic and warrior whiz kids.” In this sequel, Gwen is in her second year and there is a new mystery or two to solve. It seems two people – an invisible archer and a Reaper – want Gwen dead. And she’ll have to team up with Logan Quinn in order to figure out how to stop them and hopefully survive.

Legend by Marie Lu will be released in the U.S. on November 29, 2011.

Legend is the first book in a new dystopian series by the debut author, set in a militaristic nation, now occupying the western portion of the United States.

The story revolves around June, who is from a well-to-do family, and Day, who is not. Day becomes the suspect in June’s brother’s murder and she is seeking vengeance against his killer. With a description that promises “nonstop action, suspense, and romance,” Legend looks to be an exciting read.

Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie will be released in the U.S. on November 22, 2011.

Unleashed is the first book in the new Wolf Springs Chronicles by the authors.

This new series sounds absolutely intriguing. Katelyn McBride is sent to live in the small town of Wolf Springs, nestled in the Ozarks of Arkansas. The town’s secrets are centuries-old and “sinister” according to the description and Katelyn is the catalyst for some sort of change – for good or bad we do not know.

The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler will be released in the U.S. on November 15, 2011.

The premise of The Future of Us is absolutely fascinating. This story takes readers to back 1996 when fewer than half of high schoolers in the U.S. had used the Internet. Emma gets her first computer and she and her best friend Josh log on to find themselves on Facebook in 2011. Like the title says, they get a glimpse at their future selves and it will be exciting to see what it holds for these two characters.

The authors wrote alternating chapters, according to Carolyn Mackler’s website. She wrote Emma’s first draft and he wrote Josh’s. Then they swapped and edited each other’s work. It sounds like an exciting concept where two different voices are made cohesive through the editorial process and I’m excited to see just how well it all comes together.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi will be released in the U.S. on November 15, 2011.

Shatter Me is the first book in a new dystopian/paranormal series by debut author Tahereh Mafi.

I normally give a little summary based on the Goodreads description for each book. But I’ve read Shatter Me and I loved, loved, loved it, so I first have to say, just read the excerpt. You won’t be disappointed. This book is written so unbelievably beautifully. Any description won’t do it justice.

If you must know the basics and believe me, they don’t even touch on the amazing-ness of this book, Shatter Me is being called a dystopian novel with a paranormal twist. The Reestablishment has imprisoned Juliette for murder. Her touch is lethal and because of that she’s been in isolation for a very long time. After being in captivity for so long, without any human contact, they decide that her deadly touch could be an asset. She could be their weapon. And Shatter Me is Juliette’s story.

To get a sneak peek at chapter one on the book’s Facebook page, CLICK HERE.

The Pledge by Kimberly Derting will be released in the U.S. on November 15, 2011.

The Pledge is a dystopian novel set in Ludania, a violent country where language determines class. The main character Charlaina has the ability to understand all languages, which in Ludania can be very dangerous. And from the description, life in Ludania is harsh and its citizens are fearful, but Charlie seems to be the key to ousting the “oppressive” leadership and changing things for everyone.

The Ripper: The Vampire Diaries: Stefan’s Diaries by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on L.J. Smith’s The Vampire Diaries novel and the CW’s The Vampire Diaries television show, will be released in the U.S. on November 8, 2011.

The Ripper is the fourth volume of Stefan’s Diaries and interestingly, its release corresponds to the appearance of Stefan as “The Ripper” on this season’s show, although this book is about the original serial killer, Jack the Ripper.

This installment takes readers to London in 1888 where Stefan is drawn to the investigation that follows Jack the Ripper, the famous serial killer, and Stefan thinks the killer is a vampire and someone he knows.

Prized by Caragh M. O’Brien will be released in the U.S. on November 8, 2011.

Prized is the second book in the Birthmarked series by the author. Birthmarked was the author’s debut novel.

The second book in this dystopian series follows sixteen-year-old Gaia Stone as she leaves the Enclave and heads out into the wasteland. She’s is captured by another society, where the women outnumber the men, whose rules state that kissing is a crime. And from the description it seems that in order to be reunited with her sister, she must follow their rules and not her heart.

    November Peeks: Already Released

Tiger’s Voyage by Colleen Houck was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

Tiger’s Voyage is the third book in the Tiger’s Curse series by the author. Tiger’s Destiny, the fourth book in the series, and Tiger’s Dream, the fifth book, are both scheduled for release in 2012.

As I haven’t yet read this series, but own the first two books, I’ve been trying to avoid the Goodreads description for this book. But I did get a glimpse. And it seems that this book will bring Kelsey and the tiger princes closer to breaking the curse.

To get a long look inside at the first four chapters from the series website, CLICK HERE.

Reckoning by Lili St. Crow was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

Reckoning is the fifth and final book in the Strange Angels series by the author.

Strange Angels is a favorite series that I’ve fallen quite behind on, so I absolutely will not look at its description on Goodreads. But I know that the first two books in this series, which follows Dru Anderson, a girl with “the touch” who has to constantly battle to survive, were incredibly exciting.

To get a preview at the first chapter of Reckoning, CLICK HERE.

Crossed by Ally Condie was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

Crossed is the second book in the Matched trilogy by the author. The third book, slated for release next year, is currently untitled.

I have yet to read Matched, but it is in my collection. In this installment, Cassia journeys to the Outer Providences to find Ky and according to the description, she still hasn’t decided about a future with Ky or one with Xander. It also promises that twists and turns can be expected for this sequel in a series I can’t wait to devour.

To read an excerpt of the first two chapters of Crossed from EW’s Shelf Life,CLICK HERE.

Last Breath by Rachel Caine was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

Last Breath is the eleventh book in the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. The twelfth book, Black Dawn, will be released in 2012.

In this installment, there are three missing vampires and a new arrival in town named Magnus. Claire Danvers is certain that he he isn’t human, but she’s not sure just what he is. Could there be a new paranormal in Morganville?

Last Breath has already been released, but for those who don’t have it quite yet, but don’t want to wait, CLICK HERE for an excerpt from Penguin’s website.

Dark Eden by Patrick Carman was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

A sequel, Eve of Destruction, is slated for release on April 24, 2012.

Seven teens are sent to Fort Eden in a last-ditch attempt to overcome their fears. But while Fort Eden may hold the cure, the price might not be worth paying. And with an unusual twist at the end about just what’s really going on at Fort Eden and a complete multimedia experience to supplement the story, this is definitely worth checking out.

I have only read a few of the above October and November releases. That’s just how far behind I am with my reading. And I haven’t checked out any of the excerpts.

But I do own most of the books in the above list or have them pre-ordered, so I hope to get to them soon.

I know I’ve missed quite a few Amazon freebie downloads in this post, but if they’re still available when I do my December Extras post in a few weeks, I’ll add them to that, much shorter list.

I hope there are a few excerpts for books that you might enjoy. Happy freebie reading!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #44

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of November 1st-November 7th that I have pre-ordered.

    ***

Reckoning by Lili St. Crow will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in paperback format. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group, the print edition is 30y pages.

Reckoning is the fifth and final book in the Strange Angels series by author Lili St. Crow

    ***

I have been a fan of this series for ages, although since I started blogging I have fallen way behind. I didn’t even realize that this was the final book in the series, though its release has been on my radar for months.

While it’s not yet available for me to pre-order for my Kindle or Nook now, I expect it to be released electronically soon. I own all the other books in the series, have read the first two, and can’t wait for this book to join my permanent collection.

I only took a tiny peek at the Goodreads description, just enough of one to let me know it was the final book, because I didn’t want it to spoil Jealousy or Defiance, which are still on my TBR list. But for those who want to check it out, there is a link to the book page on Goodreads in the cover image.

I can’t believe this series is ending. I would love the opportunity to re-read the series from the beginning so that I can have all four books fresh in my mind when I read this last book. I am hoping for a happy ending, but as I don’t know what happened in Jealousy or Defiance, I’m not certain where things stand for Dru Anderson.

I wish this was already downloadable as an eBook, but this is a book and series that is worth waiting for. Of course if I do get the chance to re-read the series prior to it being made available electronically, I will purchase a print copy of this book to read.

Crossed by Ally Condie will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Dutton Juvenile, a division of the Penguin Group, the print edition is 367 pages.

Crossed is the second book in the Matched series by author Ally Condie.

    ***

Crossed is another book I’ve been anxiously anticipating. I had hoped to read Matched – which I own and which has been on my TBR pile since it was first released – prior to Crossed’s release date, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.

Even though I’m not caught up, I still have this pre-ordered for my Kindle and I hope to get to both books soon. I heard such amazing things about Matched, and the few whispers I’ve listened to about Crossed have been positive, so of course I’ve been dying to dive into this series.

Once again, as I don’t want to read the Goodreads description for fear of spoilers, I’ve linked it through the cover image. But I did check out the Goodreads description for Matched and I’m so super curious about this dystopian novel.

I’ve loved both covers, but I think I love the cover for Crossed a little bit more. The first book’s cover had the girl trapped in the bubble, in this book the girl is breaking free, so I can’t wait to find out just how that relates to the story.

To read an excerpt of the first two chapters of Crossed from EW’s Shelf Life, CLICK HERE.

Touch by Jus Accardo’s official release date in the U.S. is November 1, 2011, although the eBook was made available on October 9, 2011. It is currently available to order online in print and eBook formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Entangled Publishing, the print edition is 251 pages.

Touch is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

Touch is the first book in the Denazen series by author Jus Accardo.

    ***

I heard about this book on author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s blog. I decided to check it out, and after I read the book’s description I just knew that this would be a book I’d love to read. And while I did download the eBook for my Kindle earlier this month, I waited until its official release date to mention it in my Releasing This Week post.

I heard really great things from the bloggers I know who already read this book, so I’m even more excited to start reading this soon. I am super curious to find out just what happens at the Denazen Corporation, why Kale’s touch is deadly and what secret he’s keeping..

I am also dying to find out just who or what the Sixes are and what kinds of weapons they’re being used as.

I’m thrilled that this is already in my permanent collection and I can’t wait to add it to the top of my reading pile, hopefully next month.

Last Breath by Rachel Caine will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by NAL, the print edition is 352 pages.

Last Breath is the eleventh book in the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine.

    ***

This is another series I love but am seriously behind on. I haven’t had a chance to read Ghost Town or Bite Club, which were both released after I started blogging.

I love this series, the world, the characters and the book covers and am excited whenever each book releases so that I can add them to my permanent collection, I just haven’t had the time to read the last few books.

As I already spotlighted this book for my Book Watch post, I will only say that this is just such a fun and easy-to-read series and I can’t wait to get caught up and find out who this new character is in Last Breath.

To get a long look inside Last Breath on the book’s website,  CLICK HERE.

Dark Eden by Patrick Carman will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in hardcover, eBook and audio formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and in hardcover and eBook formats at Barnes & Noble.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, a division of HarperCollins, the print edition is 336 pages.

Dark Eden is the first book in a new series by the same name from author Patrick Carman.

    ***

While I’ve already read and reviewed Dark Eden and checked out many of the online additions like the “Fear Test” and downloaded the App from iTunes, I do have the eBook pre-ordered for my Kindle.

I gave away my ARC and I want the eBook in my permanent collection. Especially as there will be a book two, which I did not know about when I read it.

Eve of Destruction is slated for release on April 24, 2012 from Katherine Tegen Books, and is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in hardcover format only.

I just have to know where this series is headed after the rather surprising twist at the end. And I’m glad that Eve of Destruction will be released in less than six months.

As I did just recently review Dark Eden, here, and got all sorts of extras as part of my blog tour stop, here, I won’t go rambling on and on. But this is an exciting story that is a bit of a mystery and even more of a chilling thriller. And I’m curious to see if the final version deviates in any major way from the ARC I read for review.

Tiger’s Voyage by Colleen Houck will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats.

It’s currently available to pre-order online in hardcover and audio formats at Amazon, and in eBook and audio formats and an exclusive hardcover edition with an extra chapter, at Barnes & Noble. [To find the audiobook edition at B&N, CLICK HERE.]

Published by Splinter, the print edition is 560 pages.

Tiger’s Voyage is the third book in the Tiger’s Saga series by author Colleen Houck.

    ***

I don’t remember how I first learned of this series, but the cover for the first book in the series was so beautiful I had to buy it. I also purchased the second book in the series and now have the third book in the series pre-ordered at Barnes & Noble.

While I haven’t yet read any of this series, it’s one I’m really looking forward to discovering. Aside from the beautiful covers – and this one’s my favorite – the story sounds absolutely amazing. According to the description of the first book, it’s an epic story that has magic, spells, romance and adventure – all things I love to read about.

As I haven’t yet started the series, I have avoided the Goodreads description for this third book, but I have linked it in the cover image for those who want to know more.

And for an even longer look at the first four chapters of Tiger’s Voyage from the series website, CLICK HERE.

And if you haven’t yet read any of the series, be sure to check out the Tiger’s Curse website, as the first seven chapters of Tiger’s Curse are available to read online as are the first four chapters of Tiger’s Quest.

Once again it’s another six book week. But there are not too many books that I actually can add to the top of my reading pile. Four of the books are from series that I have earlier books I must read in order to get caught up. One book I’ve already read.

So that just leaves Touch, which I am dying to read just as soon as I get a little more caught up with promised reads.

But those four series books are ones that I’m just dying to get caught up on so that I can read these latest releases. I just hope that I can get to at least one or two of them before the year ends.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    The Trailers: November

They’re back! For those times when you just need a short break from reading. Here, for your viewing pleasure, are a few amazing book trailers for just some of the upcoming books releasing in November, the trailer for a much anticipated book releasing today, and a few late arrivals that I just couldn’t leave behind.

There are quite a few November releases that either don’t have trailers, or don’t have them yet, but I hope to include those with next month’s “The Trailers” post.

I anticipate the trailers for Tiger’s Voyage by Colleen Houck and Reckoning by Lili St. Crow, whose Strange Angels series always has had such kick-a** amazing ones.

And I am really hoping that there will be a trailer for Rachel Caine’s Last Breath, one for The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler, and one for Kimberly Derting’s The Pledge.
