I am so excited and so terribly sad that UP FROM THE GRAVE is releasing this week. I’ve been waiting forever for its release and I can’t wait to see what this final installment holds for Cat and Bones. But I’m also heartbroken that it is the end for them.

I may have only just met these characters in the past few years, but I instantly fell in love with them. I could read story after story about Cat and Bones and their adventures, which makes it even harder to let go.

I refuse to read the description to see just how things might end. And I’m not sure if I’ll be devouring UP FROM THE GRAVE the instant it releases. I’m not entirely sure I’m ready to say goodbye. But I might just have to, or steer clear of Twitter for the next few weeks until the buzz dies down. We shall see.

I don’t always root for a happy ending, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for Cat and Bones. And I’m keeping my ears covered and eyes closed until I discover the end for myself.

    Description…

There’s always one more grave to dig.

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives—and those of everyone they hold dear— will be hovering on the edge of the grave.

    Uninvited

    addtogoodreads

UNINVITED by Sophie Jordan will be released in the U.S. on January 28, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 384 pages.

UNINVITED is the first book in a new series by Author Sophie Jordan. A release date has not been set for the sequel.

    Dots_Divider

I can’t wait for everyone to read UNINVITED by Sophie Jordan and I’m totally stoked that my finished copy will be downloading this week. I already read it and spotlighted it for my Book Watch post, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not just as anxious for it to hit shelves.

I was totally surprised by how awesome this book was. Not because I thought the author wasn’t awesome already, but because I didn’t expect to love this story as much as I did based upon the description.

It was amazing. And thought-provoking. And heartwarming. And nerve-wracking. And I am dying to get my hands on the sequel to see what happens next. Which is another reason why I’m anxious for its release. Because that means it’s one day closer to the sequel’s release.

While I won’t be re-reading UNINVITED this week, I will definitely be re-reading it some time in the next month or two. It’s just that fantastic of a read and I’m curious to see what other chilling thoughts re-reading will bring to mind.

    Description…

The Scarlet Letter meets Minority Report in bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s chilling new novel about a teenage girl who is ostracized when her genetic test proves she’s destined to become a murderer.

When Davy Hamilton’s tests come back positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome (HTS)-aka the kill gene-she loses everything. Her boyfriend ditches her, her parents are scared of her, and she can forget about her bright future at Juilliard. Davy doesn’t feel any different, but genes don’t lie. One day she will kill someone.

Only Sean, a fellow HTS carrier, can relate to her new life. Davy wants to trust him; maybe he’s not as dangerous as he seems. Or maybe Davy is just as deadly.

The first in a two-book series, Uninvited tackles intriguing questions about free will, identity, and human nature. Steeped in New York Times bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s trademark mix of gripping action and breathless romance, this suspenseful tale is perfect for fans of James Patterson, Michelle Hodkin, and Lisa McMann.

    Cruel Beauty

    addtogoodreads

CRUEL BEAUTY by Rosamund Hodge will be released in the U.S. on January 28, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 352 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I can’t believe that release day is just about here for CRUEL BEAUTY and my Kindle copy will be downloading on Monday Midnight. I feel like it was just yesterday when I first learned about it and added it to my list of pre-orders.

I am currently in the middle of reading this book and will hopefully be finished reading it tonight. And oh my gosh do I love it. I wasn’t entirely sure I would, as the Beauty and the Beast tale has been done quite well before. But this story is gorgeous and is surprisingly unique.

What I’ve devoured already has gotten me hooked. The description wasn’t lying when it called it a “sweeping fantasy” and I definitely do feel a bit dazzled.

As I haven’t yet reached the end, I don’t know how far it will deviate from the fairy tale’s ending. And even if I did know, I wouldn’t reveal that here. But I can’t wait to finish writing this post so I can get back to reading it. It’s wonderfully, deliciously addictive.

    Description…

Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl’s journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she’s ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 256 pages.

    Dots_Divider

The instant I read the description for Elizabeth Scott’s HEARTBEAT I added it to my list of pre-orders, and I can’t believe its release is just about here. I have an early copy and have managed to read most of it and plan on finishing it tomorrow, but I am still just as excited for the finished copy to land on my Kindle.

I don’t want to say too much about this story, in part because if I started rambling I might reveal too much, in part because this post is already super long, and in part because just thinking about it brings me to tears.

So I will only just say that it’s heart-wrenching and beautiful. And I can’t wait for everyone to read it, bawl and fall in love with it.

    Description…

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 304 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I love Paige Harbison’s writing and I’m totally stoked that ANYTHING TO HAVE YOU is releasing this week and the finished copy will be downloading to my Kindle on Tuesday. While I didn’t get the chance to read it early, I will definitely be reading it in the next couple of weeks.

I can’t wait to meet Natalie and Brooke and find out what the repercussions will be for the night Natalie spent with Aiden. I am super curious to know whether their friendship will be strong enough to get past what happened or if Natalie’s actions will have destroyed what they had.

The description gives absolutely no clue about just what direction this story will take, so I’m dying to find out what happens. And I hope to be able to do so in the next couple of weeks.

    Description…

Nothing should come between best friends, not even boys. ESPECIALLY not boys.

Natalie and Brooke have had each other’s backs forever. Natalie is the quiet one, college bound and happy to stay home and watch old movies. Brooke is the movie—the life of every party, the girl everyone wants to be.

Then it happens—one crazy night that Natalie can’t remember and Brooke’s boyfriend, Aiden, can’t forget. Suddenly there’s a question mark in Natalie and Brooke’s friendship that tests everything they thought they knew about each other and has both girls discovering what true friendship really means.

    And We Stay

    addtogoodreads

AND WE STAY by Jenny Hubbard will be released in the U.S. on January 28, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Delacorte Press, the print edition is 240 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I only recently discovered AND WE STAY by Jenny Hubbard but I immediately added it to my list of pre-orders because the style the story was written in sounded incredibly intriguing. And the story itself sounded heartbreaking but hopeful.

While I received an eARC for review, I haven’t had the chance to read it just yet, so I’ll likely be reading the finished copy when I do get it on the pile. But I did end up taking a peek at the first several pages and, as I hoped I would be, am intrigued by the style the story is told in.

I can’t wait to see how the author presents this tragic but hopeful story. I can’t wait to see how the spirit of Emily Dickinson is able to help. And I hope to be able to do so in just a few weeks.

    Description…

When high school senior Paul Wagoner walks into his school library with a stolen gun, he threatens his girlfriend Emily Beam, then takes his own life. In the wake of the tragedy, an angry and guilt-ridden Emily is shipped off to boarding school in Amherst, Massachusetts, where she encounters a ghostly presence who shares her name. The spirit of Emily Dickinson and two quirky girls offer helping hands, but it is up to Emily to heal her own damaged self.

This inventive story, told in verse and in prose, paints the aftermath of tragedy as a landscape where there is good behind the bad, hope inside the despair, and springtime under the snow.

    Manor of Secrets

    addtogoodreads

MANOR OF SECRETS by Katherine Longshore will be released in the U.S. on January 28, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Point, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I have been dying to read MANOR OF SECRETS but haven’t yet been able to get it on the pile, though I did read the first few chapters. I have an ARC, but as my finished copy will be landing on my Kindle on Tuesday I will likely be reading that version instead.

I can’t wait to discover all of the Manor’s secrets, get to know Lady Charlotte and Janie even more, and find out just what happens when rules are broken. The description is rather vague about the details which piques my curiosity all the more.

Katherine Longshore is a fantastic writer and I just know I’ll fall in love with her latest release. I am anticipating romance and mystery and a gorgeous setting and I can’t wait to dive back in.

    Description…

The year is 1911. And at The Manor, nothing is as it seems . . .

Lady Charlotte Edmonds: Beautiful, wealthy, and sheltered, Charlotte feels suffocated by the strictures of upper-crust society. She longs to see the world beyond The Manor, to seek out high adventure. And most of all, romance.

Janie Seward: Fiery, hardworking, and clever, Janie knows she can be more than just a kitchen maid. But she isn’t sure she possesses the courage — or the means — to break free and follow her passions.

Both Charlotte and Janie are ready for change. As their paths overlap in the gilded hallways and dark corridors of The Manor, rules are broken and secrets are revealed. Secrets that will alter the course of their lives. . . forever.

    Her Dark Curiosity

    addtogoodreads

HER DARK CURIOSITY by Megan Shepherd will be released in the U.S. on January 28, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 432 pages.

HER DARK CURIOSITY is the second book in Megan Shepherd’s The Madman’s Daughter series. The third book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2015.

    Dots_Divider

I did not read the first book in Megan Shepherd’s series, but I own it and just had to pre-order HER DARK CURIOSITY. I have heard such amazing things about that first book that I couldn’t resist adding this second book in the series to my collection.

I don’t want to take a peek at the description for the sequel as I’m not sure what happened with Juliet Moreau in that first book and I don’t want to happen upon any spoilers. If it’s as amazing as everyone said it was, I can only imagine that I’ll be heartbroken if even a moment of it is spoiled.

I recall the first book’s description giving me chills – Dr. Moreau’s experimentation is so unbelievably creepy – and I can only guess that this sequel’s description is just as chilling. But as I refuse to read it I don’t know for sure.

As much as I’d love to dive into both books immediately, I’m wondering whether I should wait until closer to book three’s release. I guess it will depend upon just how long I’ll be able to live with being curious.

    Description…

To defeat the darkness, she must first embrace it.

Months have passed since Juliet Moreau returned to civilization after escaping her father’s island—and the secrets she left behind. Now, back in London once more, she is rebuilding the life she once knew and trying to forget Dr. Moreau’s horrific legacy—though someone, or something, hasn’t forgotten her.

As people close to Juliet fall victim one by one to a murderer who leaves a macabre calling card of three clawlike slashes, Juliet fears one of her father’s creations may have also escaped the island. She is determined to find the killer before Scotland Yard does, though it means awakening sides of herself she had thought long banished, and facing loves from her past she never expected to see again.

As Juliet strives to stop a killer while searching for a serum to cure her own worsening illness, she finds herself once more in the midst of a world of scandal and danger. Her heart torn in two, past bubbling to the surface, life threatened by an obsessive killer—Juliet will be lucky to escape alive.

With inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this is a tantalizing mystery about the hidden natures of those we love and how far we’ll go to save them from themselves.

    Into the Still Blue

    addtogoodreads

INTO THE STILL BLUE by Veronica Rossi will be released in the U.S. on January 28, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 400 pages.

INTO THE STILL BLUE is the third and final full-length book in Author Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky series.

    Dots_Divider

I cannot believe that this series is ending and I haven’t yet read the first book. I am absolutely heartbroken. I own each of the books in this series – including the novellas – and have INTO THE STILL BLUE pre-ordered.

I just know I’m going to love this series madly. Everyone whose opinions I trust was crazy about this series. I’ve heard that many hearts were broken knowing this series was concluding. I imagine the same will be true for me when I devour it in its entirety.

The description – yes I peeked just a tiny bit at the blurb – mentioned it was “earth-shattering” and I’m excited to find out just why that is. But I haven’t read beyond that blurb as I don’t want to know anything more.

Now that the series will be available to read back-to-back-to-back, I do plan on reading it in the very near future. And by that I mean next month.

    Description…

The earth-shattering conclusion to Veronica Rossi’s “masterpiece” Under the Never Sky trilogy and sequel to the New York Times bestselling Through the Ever Night (Examiner.com).

Their love and their leadership have been tested. Now it’s time for Perry and Aria to unite the Dwellers and the Outsiders in one last desperate attempt to bring balance to their world.

The race to the Still Blue has reached a stalemate. Aria and Perry are determined to find this last safe-haven from the Aether storms before Sable and Hess do-and they are just as determined to stay together.

Meanwhile, time is running out to rescue Cinder, who was abducted by Hess and Sable for his unique abilities. And when Roar returns to camp, he is so furious with Perry that he won’t even look at him, and Perry begins to feel like they have already lost.

Out of options, Perry and Aria assemble a team to mount an impossible rescue mission-because Cinder isn’t just the key to unlocking the Still Blue and their only hope for survival, he’s also their friend. And in a dying world, the bonds between people are what matter most.

In this final book in her stunning Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi raises the stakes to their absolute limit and brings her epic love story to an unforgettable close.

    The Unbound

    addtogoodreads

THE UNBOUND by Victoria Schwab will be released in the U.S. on January 28, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Disney-Hyperion, the print edition is 368 pages.

THE UNBOUND is the second book in Author Victoria Schwab’s The Archived series.

    Dots_Divider

I love Victoria Schwab’s writing and while I haven’t finished reading THE ARCHIVED I just had to pre-order THE UNBOUND. I just can’t believe its release date is almost here. I really had hoped to get caught up before its release.

I can’t wait to find out what happened to Mackenzie and see what happens to her in this sequel. The world the author created was so very different from any I’d read before and I’m curious to see whether this sequel takes readers back there.

As I haven’t yet finished reading the first book, and I have a feeling this sequel’s description will be spoiler-y, I haven’t taken a peek. But I am dying to know whether this will be the final book in the series or if there is a third book planned. So if anyone knows, without revealing spoilers, I would love to know.

    Description…

Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.

Last summer, Mackenzie Bishop, a Keeper tasked with stopping violent Histories from escaping the Archive, almost lost her life to one. Now, as she starts her junior year at Hyde School, she’s struggling to get her life back. But moving on isn’t easy — not when her dreams are haunted by what happened. She knows the past is past, knows it cannot hurt her, but it feels so real, and when her nightmares begin to creep into her waking hours, she starts to wonder if she’s really safe.

Meanwhile, people are vanishing without a trace, and the only thing they seem to have in common is Mackenzie. She’s sure the Archive knows more than they are letting on, but before she can prove it, she becomes the prime suspect. And unless Mac can track down the real culprit, she’ll lose everything, not only her role as Keeper, but her memories, and even her life. Can Mackenzie untangle the mystery before she herself unravels?

With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Unbound delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin.

    Infinite

    addtogoodreads

INFINITE by Jodi Meadows will be released in the U.S. on January 28, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, the print edition is 432 pages.

INFINITE is the third and final full-length book in Author Jodi Meadows’ Newsoul series.

    Dots_Divider

I own both previous books in this series and have had INFINITE pre-ordered for ages, but I haven’t yet had the chance to dive into this series that had me captivated since before book one’s release. And it wasn’t just each book’s stunning cover that drew me in.

I have wanted to meet newsoul Ana. I have been curious as to whether she has no soul. I’ve been hopeful that she doesn’t just have the one life to live. And I’ve been dying to find out whether Sam is willing to risk being with her even if she does.

I don’t know what happened in INCARNATE or ASUNDER, but I hope to be able to find out everything that did. I hope to be able to devour all three books and the novella some time next month or the month after that. I kind of love the idea of getting to spend all this time with the characters in their world. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will happen as planned.

    Description…

    DESTRUCTION
The Year of Souls begins with an earthquake—an alarming rumble from deep within the earth—and it’s only the first of greater dangers to come. The Range caldera is preparing to erupt. Ana knows that as Soul Night approaches, everything near Heart will be at risk.

    FLIGHT
Ana’s exile is frightening, but it may also be fortuitous, especially if she can convince her friends to flee Heart and Range with her. They’ll go north, seeking answers and allies to stop Janan’s ascension. And with any luck, the newsouls will be safe from harm’s reach.

    CHOICE
The oldsouls might have forgotten the choice they made to give themselves limitless lifetimes, but Ana knows the true cost of reincarnation. What she doesn’t know is whether she’ll have the chance to finish this one sweet life with Sam, especially if she returns to Heart to stop Janan once and for all.

With gorgeous romance and thrilling action, the final book in the Incarnate trilogy offers a brilliant conclusion to the compelling questions of this fascinating world, where one new girl is the key to the lives of millions.

What an absolutely insane week for new releases this is. I have eleven books pre-ordered that I know about. It’s entirely possible there will be more downloads to my Kindle than just those eleven. *GULP.* I’m not even going to check to see if there are eNovellas releasing or this post might take me another few hours to complete.

While I’ve managed to read a few of this week’s releases, there are so many releases that I haven’t read that are part of series that I’m behind on. I’m starting to think that I might never catch up.

And while I would love to keep rambling about all the amazing books releasing this week, this post is long enough. And I really would like to try and actually read one more of the books I have the opportunity to read pre-release. So I’m going to run off and do that right now.

I hope that I haven’t missed any of this week’s releases. I really, really, hope so. Because my wallet and my TBR pile couldn’t handle it if there were more. And I hope that a few of this week’s releases are books you’ve been anxiously awaiting, because it means the wait will soon be over.

As ever, a happy book birthday to each of this week’s releases and happy bookish acquiring and reading in the week ahead.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #57

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of January 31st-February 6th that I have pre-ordered.

    ***

Destiny and Deception by Shannon Delany will be released in the U.S. on January 31, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 304 pages.

Destiny and Deception is the fourth full-length book in the 13 to Life series by author Shannon Delany.

    ***

I’ve been a huge fan of this series since I discovered it after I began blogging. I love the world that Jess and the Rusakova’s exist in and can’t wait to read this fourth book in the series. I’ve had the eBook pre-ordered for awhile and I can’t believe release date is almost here.

I won’t talk too much about what I’m hoping for in this book just in case someone hasn’t caught up with the series yet. But I am dying to find out if things are really looking up for Jess and Pietr or if it’s just the calm before the storm.

And from the description there are a few things going on with Alexi that I can’t wait to discover for myself.

Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton will be released in the U.S. on January 31, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, the print edition is 528 pages.

Wings of the Wicked is the sequel to Angelfire by author Courtney Allison Moulton.

    ***

I can’t believe this book releases this week. I also can’t believe I have to wait an entire year until the next book comes out. I am so excited that I’ll have the eBook on my Kindle in less than twenty-four hours because I’m curious to see just what has changed between the ARC and the finished copy.

I just finished reading this and I’m already dying to read it again. I thought Angelfire was awesome. I thought that first book had me tied up in knots in a way that the sequel never could. I was so totally wrong.

The dangers facing Ellie and Will are even more terrifying. Cadan is even more swoon-worthy. And the ending is even more of a killer than I ever thought possible. I’m hanging on by my bitten and ragged fingernails, but only just barely.

New Girl by Paige Harbison will be released in the U.S. on January 31, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 320 pages.

    ***

I had a chance to read Here Lies Bridget by the author last year and I was excited to see she had another book coming out, so I added it to my pre-orders even without knowing exactly what it’s about.

But after reading the description I can’t wait to read more. I want to find out just how the New Girl is handling life at Manderly Academy where she landed a spot when Becca Normandy went missing. I want to find out just why everyone seems to blame her. I want to see what happens between her and Max Holloway, Becca’s “sort of” boyfriend.

And I want to see if we get to find out the New Girl’s name.

There is just something a little eerie about the description, though I can’t put my finger on it. And so I really want to read New Girl now and find out just why I feel that there is.

Incarnate by Jodi Meadows will be released in the U.S. on January 31, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and in hardcover and eBook formats at Barnes & Noble.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, the print edition is 384 pages.

Incarnate, the first book in the Newsouls series by author Jodi Meadows is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

    ***

I have had an ARC of Incarnate sitting on my shelf for a while thanks to a trade, but I haven’t had the chance to read it before release which I’m totally devastated about. I’ve heard such amazing things about this debut book and I want to find out for myself just what it’s about.

Though I’ll probably read the eBook version that will be downloading to my Kindle instead of the ARC, just in case something major changed that I wouldn’t want to miss.

I love the idea of reincarnated souls. And I love the idea that Ana is a newsoul… or possibly a nosoul. I can’t wait to find out which she is, especially if being a nosoul means she’ll only have one existence to live.

And I can’t wait to go on the journey with Ana as she tries to solve the mystery of why she may have received another’s life.

The description mentions “romance, fantasy, and danger” – all things I love – so I can’t wait to read Incarnate in February.

Article 5 by Kristen Simmons will be released in the U.S. on January 31, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Tor Teen, the print edition is 368 pages.

Article 5 is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

    ***

This book sounds like a super cool dystopian that I can’t wait to read. I hadn’t heard of it before I traded for a copy, but when I checked it out, it sounded like a book I’d really love to devour so I added it to my pre-orders.

The future society the author created sounds very strict and very harsh. Compliance with the Moral Statutes sounds like it will be impossible. And the punishments sound far worse than the crimes.

I can’t wait to meet Ember and discover what life is like in her world. And to find out just how horrible it is to learn that the boy she loves is the very one who arrests her mother.

I’m curious to see just how dark things will get for her after her mom’s arrest and to see if she is able to save her or if there will be no happy ending for either of them. I wish I could add it to the top of the pile now, but at the very least, I really hope I can read this new release in March.

Lenobia’s Vow by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast will be released in the U.S. on January 31, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 160 pages.

Lenobia’s Vow is the second novella in the House of Night series by author’s P.C. and Kristin Cast.

    ***

I have the first novella in this off-shoot series from the authors’ House of Night novels, although I haven’t yet read it. But as I own all books in the series I decided to pre-order this next one for my Kindle.

I like the idea of meeting these other characters and getting a chance to learn their story prior to the events in House of Night. Lenobia was always a very likable character and I can’t wait to meet her when she was much younger and hear how she first fell in love.

As it is a fairly short novella, I hope to be able to sneak this one on top of my reading pile really soon.

Shift by M.R. Merrick will be released in the U.S. on February 1, 2012 in eBook format and will be releasing soon in paperback format. It is not available to pre-order, but it will be available to purchase at Amazon and Barnes & Noble on release date.

Shift is the second book in The Protector series by the author.

    ***

I did receive an eARC from the author for review, but I will be purchasing the finished eBook for my Kindle on release date and I can’t wait. I recently read the first book in the series and it was every bit as awesome as I’d hoped it would be.

I can’t wait to get back into the world the author created and unravel more of the mystery. I am super curious to find out what will happen next with Chase and Rayna, if they’ll find the answers they’ve been looking for, and just what it means to be a Protector.

And I’m dying to know just how tough they’ll need to be in order to win the battle against their enemies. While I will be reading the eARC, I am excited to have the finished eBook as part of my permanent collection.

The Rivals by Daisy Whitney will be released in the U.S. on February 6, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 352 pages.

The Rivals is the sequel to The Mockingbirds by author Daisy Whitney.

    ***

I have not yet read The Mockingbirds, the first book in the series, but everyone said that I had to read it and so I bought it for my Kindle. And because I own book one, I just had to pre-order the sequel when I learned that it was going to be releasing soon.

I refuse to look at the Goodreads description for fear of spoiling book one, but it is linked in the cover art for anyone who wants to check it out.

The Mockingbirds caught my eye because idea of a secret society that takes action to right the wrongs done to the students at Themis Academy intrigued me. And even though the subject matter is harsh – the main character was assaulted – the idea that she is willing to fight back makes her sound like someone that I’d like to meet.

I had no idea until recently that it was a series. But now, more than ever, I want to read both books and find out exactly how the Mockingbirds help those who need it. Even if it means that I find out that their brand of help is nothing more than vigilante justice.

UPDATE: I did have one other book pre-ordered….

    Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne

    Pub. Date: February 2, 2012

    (Amazon, Barnes & Noble)

    ***

Drowning Instinct by Ilsa J. Bick

    Pub. Date: February 1, 2012

    (Amazon, Barnes & Noble)

    ***

    {Note: All covers link to the books on Goodreads}

    ***

It’s definitely not a quiet week for releases this week. I had no idea I had quite so many books pre-ordered. Fortunately I’ve read Wings of the Wicked and will be reading Shift in the next day or two, so I won’t have quite so many books to add to the TBR pile.

As much as I love it, I think participating in the Debut Author Challenge is a dangerous thing for my reading pile and for my wallet, but I can’t resist the chance to discover a new book or author that I might not have otherwise discovered. Even if I don’t always get to read their books immediately….

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    Review: Here Lies Bridget

Here Lies Bridget is the debut novel for author Paige Harbison. It was released as a paperback on January 18, 2011 and was released today, February 1, 2011, in eBook format. Both formats are available online from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Published by Harlequin TEEN, the print edition is 224 pages.

Here Lies Bridget is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

    Goodreads description:

What do you do when the five people you meet in limbo all want you to go to hell?

Bridget Duke is the uncontested ruler of her school. The meanest girl with the biggest secret insecurities. And when new girl Anna Judge arrives, things start to fall apart for Bridget: friends don’t worship as attentively, teachers don’t fall for her wide-eyed “who me?” look, expulsion looms ahead and the one boy she’s always loved—Liam Ward—can barely even look at her anymore.

When a desperate Bridget drives too fast and crashes her car, she ends up in limbo, facing everyone she’s wronged and walking a few uncomfortable miles in their shoes. Now she has only one chance to make a last impression. Though she might end up dead, she has one last shot at redemption and the chance to right the wrongs she’s inflicted on the people who mean the most to her.

And Bridget’s about to learn that, sometimes, saying you’re sorry just isn’t enough.…

Bridget Duke wasn’t always a mean girl. She can even remember the time before. The time before her father stopped spending time at home. The time before her mother was gone. Back when she had friends who liked her. Back when she was a nice girl.

One of the early lessons that Bridget learned was that all that being nice got you was to be left crying in the playground with a face full of bananas. And Bridget vowed to never let that happen again.

As a mean girl she had the power. People got out of her way when she walked through the halls, they listened to what she had to say, wanted to wear what she wore and wanted to be where she was. But that all changed the day that Anna Judge showed up and showed everyone that you can have it all and be nice too.

After an accident that leaves her in limbo will Bridget be able to convince everyone she’s wronged that she can change? With the clock ticking down will the jury pardon her for her crimes?

    ***

Here Lies Bridget is a fun, sweet, cruel and wonderfully delightful story that is part Mean Girls and part A Christmas Carol.

Bridget Duke is absolutely diabolical. Her level of cruelty and cluelessness combine to make her very unlikable. For readers she is saved from being a complete “B” because the author includes little bursts of Bridget’s conscience when she acts as she does. And Bridget’s high level of insecurity, while not excusing her actions, helps to explain them.

Bridget is made to confront what she has done, and it is up to a jury of those she’s wronged to determine her fate.

This is a debut novel for Author Paige Harbison. The story is well paced and the author’s writing has a nice flow that keeps you engaged even when you want to pull away from the contemptible actions of her main character, Bridget.

The story shifts about midway through as Bridget is taken on her Christmas Carol-esque journey through her past and shown just what effect her actions had on those who have put up with her. From here through the end, the story moves quickly and will keep you engaged as you learn whether or not Bridget is worthy of redemption.

While the concept of this story is nothing new – individuals forced to face the harm they’ve done and given a chance to make things right – the author has given this story its own flair and identity. From the in limbo boardroom to the very believable characters that have each had to suffer in some way through their acquaintance with Bridget, the story is most definitely memorable.

This story is a “must read” and is recommended for anyone who enjoys “mean girl” stories and books where lessons can be learned about actions and consequences.

    Reviewer gives this book [rating=4]

    On a personal note:

I wasn’t sure at first, but by the end I loved this story. And I mean, really loved this story. Yes, I’m a sap, but a tear or two was definitely shed.

I have read A Christmas Carol more than once and read many stories and seen many films that basically follow this same premise. But there was something really touching about Bridget’s look into her past from the different p.o.v.’s of the characters she was so awful to.

While I don’t think I ever fell in love with Bridget herself, her friends and family that have been by her side all these years were very sympathetic. And as we learn, through Bridget, just who they are and what they have been going through, it made me really feel for them. And any time I can feel something for a character or connect with them I know it’s all due to the writer’s ability to create.

Paige Harbison is definitely an author I’m going to follow and can’t wait to see what’s next.

The screen rights to Here Lies Bridget were acquired so we may end up seeing this made into a movie in the near (or not so near) future.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #5

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

I am posting this a day earlier than usual as I have a couple reviews that I will be posting on Monday and also there are so many books this week to choose from that you may need an extra day to shop!

As is the case each week, these are all books I’ve either got on pre-order or plan on buying when released.

The Demon Trapper’s Daughter is a debut novel by author Jana Oliver. It will be released in the U.S. on February 1, 2011 in paperback and eBook formats. It is available for pre-order from Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both formats.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 368 pages. In the U.K., released on January 7, 2011, the book is titled Forsaken.

The Demon Trapper’s Daughter is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

I had the good fortune to win an ARC of this book from Goodreads and read and reviewed it back in December. I gave away the ARC copy to another reviewer and immediately pre-ordered the eBook for my Kindle. I’ve also pre-ordered a copy for comparison for my Nook.

This is a such a great book. It’s gritty, edgy and very original. No sexy demons in this one, but a great heroine who is not afraid of a little demon slime.

To learn more about the book, visit the book’s website.

A short prequel story, Retro Demonology, is still available for free from Amazon in Kindle format. If you’d like to read my quickie review, click here.

Delirium is the first book in a new trilogy by Lauren Oliver. It will also be released in the U.S. on February 1, 2011 and is available for pre-order in hardcover and eBook formats from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The print edition, published by HarperTeen, is 448 pages.

This was another book that I had the opportunity to read in advance of release. I received an electronic ARC courtesy of NetGalley and HarperTeen and read and reviewed it back in December. If you’d like to check out my review, click here.

This is a dystopian novel you will not want to miss. Author Lauren Oliver is an exquisite writer. She has such a magical way of creating a world with her words. I have this book on pre-order for my Kindle so I can own the final copy and plan on re-reading this closer to the release of the second book in the series.

To read an excerpt from HarperTeen click here.

Haunted by Joy Preble is second book in the Dreaming Anastasia series. It too will be released in the U.S. on February 1, 2011. It is currently available from both Amazon and Barnes & Noble in eBook and paperback formats. Published by Sourcebooks Fire the paperback is 304 pages.

I pre-ordered this book solely based on the beautiful cover. (Although there are some similarities to the face in the background that remind me of the cover of Brightly Woven.) Only when creating this post did I realize this is the second book of the series. So, I’ve just downloaded the first book in the series, Dreaming Anastasia. The cover on that first book is just as beautiful.

But books about magic and love are subjects I’m always happy to read and with author Cynthia Leitich Smith calling it, “Spooky, sassy, sinister, and sexy!” I am sold.

If you haven’t yet read the first book in the series, click here to read an excerpt of Dreaming Anastasia from Scribd.

Here Lies Bridget is the debut novel for author Paige Harbison. It was released in paperback format on January 18, 2011 but the eBook format will be releasing this week on February 1, 2011. The print edition is available now and the eBook is available for pre-order from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Published by HarlequinTEEN the print edition is 224 pages.

Here Lies Bridget is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

This is a story of a mean girl looking for redemption before it’s too late. I received a copy of this as an electronic ARC from NetGalley and HarlequinTEEN just over a week ago and my review will post on Monday. I have purchased the eBook version for my Kindle so I can have the final copy for my collection.

The screen rights to Here Lies Bridget were acquired so we may end up seeing this made into a movie in the near (or not so near) future.

Waterfall is the debut YA novel for best-selling and award-winning author Lisa T. Bergren. It is the first book in the River of Time series. It is releasing in the U.S. on February 1, 2011 and is currently available for pre-order in paperback only from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Published by David C. Cook, the paperback edition is 384 pages.

Waterfall is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

I’ve decided to bite the bullet and order this one in paperback format. Time travel, lost cities, knights and castles make this one sound like a magical adventure and I don’t want to have to wait for the eBook’s release.

To read the prologue and first chapter at Scribd, click here.

For those interested in a great contest, click here for details on the author’s website.

The second book in the series, Cascade, is available for pre-order also and will be released on June 1, 2011.

Because I really liked this one, here is the trailer for Waterfall:
