Book Watch: Releasing This Week #179

    BW-RTW

Below are the (mostly) YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of June 3rd-June 9th that I have pre-ordered.

    MakeItCount

    Add_to_GR

MAKE IT COUNT by Megan Erickson releases in the U.S. today, June 3, 2014, in eBook format. (A paperback edition releases on July 8th.) It is currently available to order/pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by William Morrow Impulse, the print edition is 384 pages.

MAKE IT COUNT is the first book in Author Megan Erickson’s Bowler University series. The second books in the series, MAKE IT RIGHT, is slated for release on September 9, 2014 and the third book in the series, MAKE IT LAST, releases on January 6, 2015.

I only recently discovered MAKE IT COUNT by Megan Erickson, but after reading the description I just had to pre-order a copy for my Kindle and I can’t wait to read it. It sounds like it’s going to be a lot of twisty-turny fun.

And after checking out a few of the blurbs, I think the description totally hits the nail on the head. It is fun. It’s also been called “steamy” and “addicting” and “romantic.”

While I’m currently tackling three or four books, I definitely want to get this on the pile next week. I’m really enjoying mixing in different genres, one of my favorites being New Adult. So if this book is half as good as it sounds I know I’ll totally love it.

And I may just have to take a quick peek or two at it when it downloads.

    Description…

Kat Caruso wishes her brain had a return policy, or at least a complaint hot-line. The defective organ is constantly distracted, terrible at statistics, and absolutely flooded with inappropriate thoughts about her boyfriend’s gorgeous best friend, Alec…who just so happens to be her brand new math tutor. Who knew nerd was so hot?

Kat usually goes through tutors like she does boyfriends—both always seem to bail when they realize how hopeless she is. It’s safer for her heart to keep everyone at arm’s reach. But Alec is always stepping just a little too close.

Alec Stone should not be fantasizing about Kat. She’s adorable, unbelievably witty, and completely off limits. He’d never stab his best friend in the back…

But when secrets are revealed, the lines of loyalty are blurred. To make it count, Alec must learn messy human emotions can’t be solved like a trigonometry function. And Kat has to trust Alec may be the first guy to want her for who she is, and not in spite of it.

    The Truth About Alice

    Add_to_GR

THE TRUTH ABOUT ALICE by Jennifer Mathieu releases in the U.S. today, June 3, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Roaring Brook Press, the print edition is 208 pages.

When I first read the description for THE TRUTH ABOUT ALICE in the publisher’s catalog I immediately pre-ordered it for my Kindle. This story sounds gritty and true-to-life and so very different from what I usually read. But it sounds like I story I really will enjoy diving into.

I’m curious if I’ll be surprised by the reveals, or whether I’ll find that getting older doesn’t necessarily mean becoming deluded about the realities of being a teenager. I’m curious if the truth about Alice will be revealed, or whether the character will keep her secret truths.

While I won’t get the chance to read it in the next couple of weeks, I really want to read this book some time this month. Because it is definitely a story that isn’t from one of my “go to” categories and I’m really looking to step out of my comfort zone and discover new and interesting books.

    Description…

Everyone knows Alice slept with two guys at one party. When Healy High star quarterback, Brandon Fitzsimmons, dies in a car crash, it was because he was sexting with Alice. Ask anybody. Rumor has it Alice Franklin is a slut. It’s written all over the “slut stall” in the girls’ bathroom: “Alice had sex in exchange for math test answers” and “Alice got an abortion last semester.” After Brandon dies, the rumors start to spiral out of control.

In this remarkable debut novel, four Healy High students tell all they “know” about Alice–and in doing so reveal their own secrets and motivations, painting a raw look at the realities of teen life. But in this novel from Jennifer Mathieu, exactly what is the truth about Alice? In the end there’s only one person to ask: Alice herself.

    Gasp
    Add_to_GR

GASP by Lisa McMann releases in the U.S. today, June 3, 2014, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 288 pages.

GASP is the third book in Lisa McMann’s Visions series.

I cannot believe that GASP, the third book in this series, is releasing today. I am so far behind on this series. I don’t even know whether this is the final book in the series – though I think it might be. But I am totally stoked that the finished copy will be landing on my Kindle today.

I love Lisa McMann’s writing and own every single YA and MG book she’s written. I’ve even listened to one of her books in audio format after having read it. So I can’t believe that I haven’t gotten caught up on Visions before GASP released.

I don’t know what happened or what’s going to happen. I don’t know what Jules has been up to. I don’t know whether Sawyer is okay. All I know is that now that I have these three books in my collection, I can’t wait to find out. And, hopefully, I’ll be able to dive in at the end of this month or early next month during the holiday weekend.

    Description…

The visions aren’t stopping, and neither is the danger in this third “dramatic, quick-paced thriller (Kirkus Reviews)” in a series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Wake trilogy.

After narrowly surviving two harrowing tragedies, Jules now fully understands the importance of the visions that she and people around her are experiencing. She’s convinced that if the visions passed from her to Sawyer after she saved him, then they must now have passed from Sawyer to one of the people he saved.

That means it’s up to Jules to figure out which of the school shooting survivors is now suffering from visions of another crisis. And once she realizes who it is, she has to convince that survivor that this isn’t all crazy—that the images are of something real. Something imminent.

As the danger escalates more than ever before in the conclusion to the Visions series, Jules wonders if she’ll finally find out why and how this is happening—before it’s too late to prevent disaster.

    Mr Mercedes
    Add_to_GR

MR. MERCEDES by Stephen King releases in the U.S. today, June 3, 2014, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Scribner, the print edition is 448 pages.

I don’t think by now it is any surprise that of course I’ve had MR. MERCEDES pre-ordered for ages. It shouldn’t be shocking to learn that I have been anxiously awaiting this book. And it should probably be expected that I will be taking a peek… or maybe a longer look… at this book the instant it downloads.

Because I love Stephen King’s writing. And any book of his that talks about going into the mind of an “obsessed, insane killer” is one I must read. Right away. Especially when the description calls it “chilling and unforgettable.”

This story definitely sounds a little gruesome and macabre. It sounds like it’s classic Stephen King. And while I may not end up talking about it here on the blog beyond today, I am pretty sure I’ll have read it and fallen in love with it some time this week.

    Description…

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.

In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the “perk” and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.

Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again.

Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady’s next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands.

Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

    Fall From India Place

    Add_to_GR

FALL FROM INDIA PLACE by Samantha Young releases in the U.S. today, June 3, 2014, in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in paperback and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by NAL Trade, the print edition is 384 pages.

FALL FROM INDIA PLACE is the fourth full-length book in Samantha Young’s On Dublin Street series. The fifth book in the series, slated for release in 2015, is currently untitled.

I am so excited for the release of FALL FROM INDIA PLACE. I just recently purchased all the books in this series and can’t wait to meet each of the character couples.

I have loved Samantha Young’s writing for a number of years, but I’ve yet to read this bestselling series of hers. There was just something about this particular book that demanded that I pre-order it and discover what everyone else has known for awhile about this series – that it’s awesome. Upon reflection, I think it was the very first line that talks of letting go of the past and trusting in the future that drew me in.

While I normally like to read books in a series in order, I think I’m going to start with this new book so that I can read it sooner rather than later. I want to meet Hannah and Marco and find out whether the secret tears them apart or whether they get a second chance. And I really hope to be able to do that mid-month.

    Description…

The New York Times bestselling author of On Dublin Street and Down London Road returns with a story about letting go of the past and learning to trust in the future…

When Hannah Nichols last saw Marco D’Alessandro, five long years ago, he broke her heart. The bad boy with a hidden sweet side was the only guy Hannah ever loved—and the only man she’s ever been with. After one intense night of giving into temptation, Marco took off, leaving Scotland and Hannah behind. Shattered by the consequences of their night together, Hannah has never truly moved on.

Leaving Hannah was the biggest mistake of Marco’s life, something he has deeply regretted for years. So when fate reunites them, he refuses to let her go without a fight. Determined to make her his, Marco pursues Hannah, reminding her of all the reasons they’re meant to be together.…

But just when Marco thinks they’re committed to a future together, Hannah makes a discovery that unearths the secret pain she’s been hiding from him, a secret that could tear them apart before they have a real chance to start over again….

    Missed Last Week

    Tease
    Add_to_GR

TEASE by Sophie Jordan released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by William Morrow Paperbacks, the print edition is 320 pages.

TEASE is the second full-length novel in Sophie Jordan’s Ivy Chronicles. The third book in the series, WILD, is slated for release on November 18, 2014.

I am devastated that I didn’t include the release for TEASE in last week’s post. I had it pre-ordered, it downloaded, and I didn’t even think anything of it, as I was so sure I’d rambled about it. But in checking out last week’s post in order to create this week’s, it seems that I did not.

I had the chance to read TEASE pre-release, and I took full advantage of it. I read it and I loved it and I’ve been hoping that there will be advance copies of WILD so that I won’t have to wait until November to read on. And even though I had already devoured this story, I was thrilled when the finished copy downloaded to my Kindle.

Emerson and Shaw’s story was exciting and sexy. Even more so than Pepper and Reece’s. And while I could go on and on and talk all about what happened between them, I think I’ll refrain and let you check out the description. But if you already have a copy of this book, then you’ll want to check that out instead.

As I have already read this story, I won’t be reading it again quite yet. But I might just re-read both books in this series before book three becomes available. Because I’d love to compare and find out whose story I love the best.

    Description…

What happens when a girl who always calls the shots meets a guy who’s too wild for even her?

A born flirt and good-time party girl, Emerson has never had a problem finding a willing guy. She’s always chosen her hookups carefully, and she’s never broken her three cardinal rules:

Never let them see the real you.
    Never fall in love.
Always leave them begging for more.

Then Shaw comes along. A hottie from the wrong side of the tracks, he’s immune to her flirtatious banter and come-hither smile. After rescuing her from a disastrous night at a biker bar, he doesn’t even try to take her to bed—he calls her a tease and sends her home instead. Unable to resist a challenge, or forget the sexy, dark-eyed, bad-boy biker, she vows to bring him to his knees.

But instead of making Shaw beg, Emerson finds herself craving him. For the first time in her life, she’s throwing out her rule book. Suddenly, she’s the one panting for a guy she can’t control—a guy who won’t settle for anything less than the real Emerson and who forces her to do things she’s never imagined, including facing a past she thought she’d buried.

A guy who just might leave her wanting more. . . .

Even though her parents can’t stop fighting and her ex-boyfriend can’t seem to leave her alone, Kara won’t let anything get in the way of her perfect year. Furious, Kara leaves to take a drive, and, as she’s crossing an intersection, a car comes out of nowhere and slams into the driver’s side of Kara’s car.

When Kara wakes up, she has no memory of the night before. Where is she? Why are her parents crying? And, most importantly — why can’t she feel her legs? As Kara is forced to adjust to her new life, where her friends aren’t who they seemed to be and her once-adoring boyfriend is mysteriously absent, she starts to realize that what matters in life isn’t what happens to you — it’s the choices you make and the people you love.

    Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire

    Description:

THE GIRL WHO NEVER WAS is the story of Selkie Stewart, who thinks she’s a totally normal teenager growing up in Boston. Sure, her father is in an insane asylum, her mother left her on his doorstep—literally—when she was a baby, and she’s being raised by two ancient aunts who spend their time hunting gnomes in their Beacon Hill townhouse. But other than that her life is totally normal! She’s got an adventurous best friend who’s always got her back and an unrequited crush on an older boy named Ben. Just like any other teenager, right?

When Selkie goes in search of the mother she’s never known, she gets more than she bargained for. It turns out that her mother is faerie royalty, which would make Selkie a faerie princess—except for the part where her father is an ogre, which makes her only half of anything. Even more confusing, there’s a prophecy that Selkie is going to destroy the tyrannical Seelie Court, which is why her mother actually wants to kill her. Selkie has been kept hidden all her life by her adoring aunts, with the help of a Salem wizard named Will. And Ben. Because the boy she thinks she’s in love with turns out to be a faerie whose enchantment has kept her alive, but also kept her in the dark about her own life.

Now, with enchantments dissolved and prophecies swinging into action, Selkie finds herself on a series of mad quests to save the people she’s always loved and a life she’s learning to love. But in a supernatural world of increasingly complex alliances and distressingly complicated deceptions, it’s so hard to know who to trust. Does her mother really wish to kill her? Would Will sacrifice her for the sake of the prophecy? And does Ben really love her or is it all an elaborate ruse? In order to survive, Selkie realizes that the key is learning—and accepting—who she really is.

    Pub. Date: June 3, 2014

    Publisher: Entangled Teen

Find it: AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE

    Description:

    OBSIDIAN: Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

ONYX: Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there’s this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that’s possible. Against all common sense, I’m falling for Daemon. Hard.

    But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Lux ConsequencesLUX CONSEQUENCES: OPAL & ORIGIN (Lux #3-4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

    Publisher: Entangled Teen

Find it: AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE

    Description:

OPAL: No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger… and they know it.

ORIGIN: Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

    Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

    Description:

This collection contains all six books in New York Times bestselling author Michael Grant’s breathtaking dystopian sci-fi Gone saga. These page-turning thrillers invoke the classic The Lord of the Flies along with the horror of Stephen King. King himself said: “I love these books.”

No way to get help. And no way to figure out what’s happened. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day. It’s a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: on your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else. . . .

    Other Releases

    DARK DAYS by Kate Ormand

LOUDER THAN WORDS by Laura Jarratt

There are just so many books releasing this week. I couldn’t keep track of them all. So there are a couple that I didn’t pre-order that I know I’ll want to add to the collection once the dust settles – VIVIAN DIVINE IS DEAD and HUNGRY.

And while I don’t have as many books pre-ordered as I did last week, there are still a ton of books releasing. Which is why I’m pretty sure I’m forgetting one or two books I’ve been curious about. It’s why I forgot to include TEASE last week.

Next week isn’t much better. At least in terms of my TBR pile. I already found at least five books I have on order. I’m sure there are (or will be by then) quite a few more.

And as this post took forever and ever, I think I’ll stop rambling and just wish those of you who have a book releasing a happy book birthday! And to those of you who read and review, I hope that you get to add a few of your anticipated reads to your collection.

    As ever… Happy Reading!

    DotsDiv2

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

REBEL SPRING is the second book in Morgan Rhodes’ Falling Kingdoms series. There are two additional books in the series planned.

    Dots_Divider

I have not yet had the chance to embark upon the journey promised in this series or to meet Cleo, Magnus, Lucia and Jonas. But I am so excited that my pre-order copy of REBEL SPRINGS downloaded to my Kindle so that I will be able to not only meet the characters but continue their adventure in this sequel.

I did end up reading the description that promises not only “love, power, and magic” but also “war.” And I am now more eager than ever to begin this series so I can find out just what King Gaius does that “will forever change the face of” the land.

I had planned on waiting until after the release of the third book before diving in. But I am now more curious than ever to discover this world, learn more about the three fallen kingdoms, and see just how everyone’s handling their union in the country known as Mytica.

Hopefully I’ll get the chance to do so early in the new year. This series sounds so unbelievably epic that the idea of waiting years for the remaining books to release before adding these first two to the pile is unthinkable.

    Description…

Love, power, and magic collide with war in the second book of the Falling Kingdoms series

Auranos has fallen and the three kingdoms—Auranos, Limeros, and Paelsia—are now united as one country called Mytica. But still, magic beckons, and with it the chance to rule not just Mytica, but the world…

When the evil King Gaius announces that a road is to be built into the Forbidden Mountains, formally linking all of Mytica together, he sets off a chain of events that will forever change the face of this land, forcing Cleo the dethroned princess, Magnus the reluctant heir, Lucia the haunted sorceress, and Jonas the desperate rebel to take steps they never could have imagined.

RACING SAVANNAH is the fourth book in Author Miranda Kenneally’s Hundred Oaks series. The fifth book, BREATHE, ANNIE, BREATHE, is slated for release on July 1, 2014. A sixth and final book, currently untitled, is planned.

    Dots_Divider

I can’t wait to read RACING SAVANNAH and I am totally stoked that my Kindle pre-order copy downloaded and that this book is now a part of my collection. I’ve been looking forward to this particular installment in the series for what feels like forever.

As I have already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post, I probably shouldn’t ramble endlessly here. But I really can’t wait to meet Savannah and Jack and to find out which is more dangerous – horse racing or dating.

I love that the description hints of forbidden love, a love story divided by class. And I love that the main character is interested in more than just dating the “out of her league” Jack Goodwin.

The world of horse racing sounds absolutely fascinating, and I can’t wait to see this world through Savannah’s eyes. Which I will hopefully get the chance to do next week.

For those that don’t yet have their copy of RACING SAVANNAH, you can check out an excerpt on the author’s website, HERE.

    Description…

    They’re from two different worlds.

He lives in the estate house, and she spends most of her time in the stables helping her father train horses. In fact, Savannah has always been much more comfortable around horses than boys. Especially boys like Jack Goodwin—cocky, popular and completely out of her league. She knows the rules: no mixing between the staff and the Goodwin family. But Jack has no such boundaries.

With her dream of becoming a horse jockey, Savannah isn’t exactly one to follow the rules either. She’s not going to let someone tell her a girl isn’t tough enough to race. Sure, it’s dangerous. Then again, so is dating Jack…

When Kellie’s sister finally meets her birth mother and her best friend starts hanging with a cooler crowd, the feeling only grows stronger.

But then she reconnects with Oliver, the sweet and sensitive college guy she had a near hookup with last year. Oliver is intense and attractive, and she’s sure he’s totally out of her league. But as she discovers that maybe intensity isn’t always a good thing, it’s yet another relationship she feels is spiraling out of her control.

It’ll take a new role on the school newspaper and a new job at her mom’s tattoo shop for Kellie to realize that defining herself both outside and within her family is what can finally allow her to feel permanent, just like a tattoo.

I can’t believe how quiet a week it is for new releases in YA. My two pre-orders downloaded but there were no surprise books for a change. Of course I still feel like I’m missing out. I don’t remember the last time I had only two pre-orders.

Though I did receive my pre-order copy of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s eNovella on December 1st, it technically should have been included among last week’s releases. And while I don’t normally list novellas, I am so excited to check out this peek into her new series about demons and gargoyles that I just had to include it in this post.

I love the look of the new boxed set of Lisa McMann’s WAKE, FADE, GONE trilogy that released this week. But as I already own all three books I probably won’t buy them again. Well… maybe.

And while I didn’t pre-order Amy Spalding’s INK IS THICKER THAN WATER, as it is a book I’m seeing everywhere these days it’s one I’m going to be checking out.

But for now I’m going to be happy with my two pre-orders and will hopefully get to read both books very, very soon.

As always, I hope that while this week may be quiet for you too, there is at least one book you’ve had on your “dying to read” list that can be switched to your “currently reading” pile.

    Happy book-ish acquiring and reading!

    line2

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    Just One Year

    addtogoodreads

JUST ONE YEAR by Gayle Forman will be released in the U.S. on October 10, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Dutton Juvenile, the print edition is 336 pages.

JUST ONE YEAR is the second and final book in the Just One Day series by author Gayle Forman.

    Dots_Divider

I have not yet read JUST ONE DAY but I pre-ordered JUST ONE YEAR the moment it was available to order for my Kindle and I cannot wait for its release this week. I wanted to read the first book in this two book series right away until I remembered that I loved reading both of Gayle Forman’s books in her If I Stay series in close proximity to one another.

And I knew that once I met the characters in this series, I wouldn’t want to have to wait. So I thought it was better to wait without having met them.

But now that both books will be available to read I cannot wait to meet Allyson and Willem and see what happens on the day they meet and in the year that follows. I have heard that both books in this series are amazing – not that I expected anything less – and I’m so excited to finally be able to find out for myself.

If it’s as beautiful and emotional and heartbreaking as the author’s other series I just know there will be lots and lots of tears. But I also know it will be so worth it and this time I will be ready with the Kleenex box close at hand.

    Description…

The heartrending conclusion—from Willem’s POV—to the romantic duet of novels that began with Allyson’s story in Just One Day

After spending an amazing day and night together in Paris, Just One Year is Willem’s story, picking up where Just One Day ended. His story of their year of quiet longing and near misses is a perfect counterpoint to Allyson’s own as Willem undergoes a transformative journey, questioning his path, finding love, and ultimately, redefining himself.

    Desert Tales

    addtogoodreads

DESERT TALES by Melissa Marr will be released in the U.S. on October 8, 2013 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in paperback and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 272 pages.

DESERT TALES is a companion novel in author Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series.

    Dots_Divider

When I heard that there would be a companion novel in Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series releasing, I nearly died. I have been desperately waiting for DESERT TALES’ release – and no, I did not read the manga – since the moment I first heard about it. And I am so unbelievably thrilled that release day is just about here.

Maybe, finally, I’ll be able to read DARKEST MERCY because I won’t have to say goodbye to this series that I’ve loved forever. Having one more book in this series means that it doesn’t all end with that other book I’ve been both desperately wanting and refusing to read ever since I first got my hands on an early copy back in… 2011?

While this won’t necessarily include all of those characters from the books I’ve known and loved, it is still in the world of. And according to the description, events from those other books are what set this faery tale in motion. So I’m really excited for its release and the possibility of reading DARKEST MERCY. Finally.

    Description…

Return to the world of Melissa Marr’s bestselling series and discover how the events of Wicked Lovely set a different faery tale in motion…

The Mojave Desert was a million miles away from the plots and schemes of the Faerie Courts—and that’s exactly why Rika chose it as her home. The once-mortal faery retreated to the desert’s isolation after decades of carrying winter’s curse inside her body. But her seclusion—and the freedom of the desert fey—are threatened by the Summer King’s newfound strength. And when the manipulations of her trickster friend, Sionnach, thrust Rika into a new romance, she finds new power within herself—and a new desire to help Sionnach protect the desert fey and mortals alike. The time for hiding is OVER.

Originally presented as a manga series, and now available for the first time as a standalone novel, Desert Tales combines tentative romance, outward strength, and inner resolve in a faery story of desert and destiny.

BANG by Lisa McMann will be released in the U.S. on October 8, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 256 pages.

BANG is the second book in author Lisa McMann’s Visions series. The third book in the series, GASP, is slated for release on June 3, 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I absolutely love Lisa McMann’s writing and am super excited for the release of BANG, the second book in this series. I have not yet read the first book, but only because I’ve been trying to wait to begin series until at least the second book has been released.

I’m not entirely sure if I’m going to try and wait for GASP to be released next spring before I dive into CRASH and BANG. I remember having to anxiously wait for GONE’s release and that was torturous. So maybe I should.

But it’s been ages since I read a book by this author and I miss that unique style she has. So I don’t think I’ll be able to wait the eight months until the third book will be available. I’m not confident I’ll even be able to wait for the end of the month. Only time will tell….

    Description…

Jules should be happy. She saved a lot of people’s lives and she’s finally with Sawyer, pretty much the guy of her dreams. But the nightmare’s not over, because she somehow managed to pass the psycho vision stuff to Sawyer. Excellent.

Feeling responsible for what he’s going through and knowing that people’s lives are at stake, Jules is determined to help him figure it all out. But Sawyer’s vision is so awful he can barely describe it, much less make sense of it. All he can tell her is there’s a gun, and eleven ear-splitting shots. Bang.

Jules and Sawyer have to work out the details fast, because the visions are getting worse and that means only one thing: time is running out. But every clue they see takes them down the wrong path. If they can’t prevent the vision from happening, lives will be lost. And they may be among the casualties…

    Resist

    addtogoodreads

RESIST by Sarah Crossan will be released in the U.S. on October 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Greenwillow Books, the print edition is 368 pages.

RESIST is the second and final book in author Sarah Crossan’s Breathe series.

    Dots_Divider

I am so upset that I didn’t get to read RESIST before its release. I received an eARC and desperately wanted to get this book on the pile ages ago, but that didn’t happen. So I will most likely end up reading the finished copy which is set to download to my Kindle on Monday Midnight instead of the eARC. But I definitely plan on readng it soon.

I’m just so sad that it’s only a two book series. I really loved getting to meet Quinn, Alina and Ben in BREATHE and would have loved to have more than just the two adventures through this oxygen deprived world.

I am super curious to see how this series ends, to find out whether all three characters will survive in the Outlands. I am anxious to find out what happens with the revolution they started and whether they’ll be able to save human society. The description promises a “thought-provoking” and “unforgettable” novel and I am so desperately in need of one of those right about now.

Hopefully I will be able to sneak it onto the pile later this week or some time next weekend.

    Description…

The sequel—and conclusion—to Sarah Crossan’s Breathe. Three teen outlaws must survive on their own in a world without air, exiled outside the glass dome that protects what’s left of human civilization. Gripping action, provocative ideas, and shocking revelations in a dystopian novel that fans of Patrick Ness and Veronica Roth will devour.

Bea, Alina, and Quinn are on the run. They started a rebellion and were thrown out of the pod, the only place where there’s enough oxygen to breathe. Bea has lost her family. Alina has lost her home. And Quinn has lost his privileged life. Can they survive in the perilous Outlands? Can they finish the revolution they began? Especially when a young operative from the pod’s Special Forces is sent after them. Their only chance is to stand together, even when terrible circumstances force them apart. When the future of human society is in danger, these four teens must decide where their allegiances lie. Sarah Crossan has created a dangerous, and shattered society in this wrenching, thought-provoking, and unforgettable post-apocalyptic novel.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 352 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I received an eARC of THE BROKENHEARTED and am actually reading it right now and hope to have it finished before it downloads to my Kindle on Tuesday. I am on the tour for this awesome-so-far novel tomorrow and I can’t wait to see what happens with Anthem.

I don’t want to risk spoiling anything, though I’m only about one-quarter of the way into this story so there’s not too much to spoil, but it’s totally got me hooked. I’m curious about where this story is headed as the description doesn’t reveal very much. And I refuse to take a peek further into the story to find out.

The description compares it to The Dark Knight and Cinder, a film and a book that I love, love, love. So I’m totally excited to get back to reading just as soon as I finish writing this post.

And I cannot wait for it to download on Tuesday so that I can have the finished copy in my permanent collection.

    Description…

A teenage girl is transformed into a reluctant superhero and must balance her old life with the dark secret of who she has become.

Prima ballerina Anthem Fleet is closely guarded by her parents in their penthouse apartment. Published by Flux, the print edition is 408 pages.

PHANTOM EYES is the third and final full-length book in Scott Tracey’s Witch Eyes series.

    Dots_Divider

I am so unbelievably heartbroken that Scott Tracey’s Witch Eyes series has come to an end. But I am totally stoked that the final version of PHANTOM EYES will be downloading this week, as I’m dying to know if there are any differences from the eARC I read.

Because I love this series, I do not want to reveal too much in this post about what happened in this final book. I’ll just say that there were tears, there were moments that I may have screamed out loud about what went down, and there may have been a few smiles and smirks.

PHANTOM EYES was the book I spotlighted for my Book Watch post the other week, so I will try to wind this ramble down quickly by just saying that this is an epic finish to an awesome series and I wholeheartedly agree with the description when it says that “victory comes with a cost.” Yes. Yes it does.

    Description…

Every child in Belle Dam is taught about the feud from an early age. There are ‘our’ people and ‘their’ people. Friends and enemies. Associates and strangers. It’s the kind of town where eyes are always watching, and you don’t need a reason to sell out your neighbors.

But the feud is a lie. As a new wave of fury sweeps through the town, creating a third front to an already overtaxed war, Braden has been broken worse than ever. His innocence? Shattered. His heart? Crushed. His magic? Gone. His new life? Ruined. And this is only the beginning.

Beneath the city lay deep wellsprings of power. The one who controls them is the one who will win the feud. In a city filled with puppet masters, Braden must elude their strings and end the feud once and for all. But first, he must outsmart his father, evade Catherine’s dark magic, regain what was stolen from him, trick a phantom who refuses to die, and foil a demon’s master plan.

Even then, he may not survive. Because power is a problem, and victory comes with a cost…

Published by Viking Juvenile, the print edition is 496 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I received an unexpected print ARC of BLYTHEWOOD from the publisher a month or so ago, which put this book on my radar, as I hadn’t previously heard about it. And while I wasn’t able to sneak it onto the pile before its release date, I just had to pre-order it for my Kindle because this is a book I definitely plan on reading and think would make the perfect addition to my collection.

The first line after the “welcome” message totally grabbed my attention. A character who escaped from an insane asylum is one I just have to meet. A story set at an elite boarding school with a “dark secret” is one I have to visit.

And with a description that promises a “vivid and atmospheric” read “full of mystery and magic” and romance, BLYTHEWOOD is a book that I absolutely must read.

    Description…

    Welcome to Blythewood.

At seventeen, Avaline Hall has already buried her mother, survived a horrific factory fire, and escaped from an insane asylum. Now she’s on her way to Blythewood Academy, the elite boarding school in New York’s mist-shrouded Hudson Valley that her mother attended—and was expelled from. Though she’s afraid her high society classmates won’t accept a factory girl in their midst, Ava is desperate to unravel her family’s murky past, discover the identity of the father she’s never known, and perhaps finally understand her mother’s abrupt suicide. She’s also on the hunt for the identity of the mysterious boy who rescued her from the fire. And she suspects the answers she seeks lie at Blythewood.

But nothing could have prepared her for the dark secret of what Blythewood is, and what its students are being trained to do. Haunted by dreams of a winged boy and pursued by visions of a sinister man who breathes smoke, Ava isn’t sure if she’s losing her mind or getting closer to the truth. And the more rigorously Ava digs into the past, the more dangerous her present becomes.

Vivid and atmospheric, full of mystery and magic, this romantic page-turner by bestselling author Carol Goodman tells the story of a world on the brink of change and the girl who is the catalyst for it all.

    Pull Down the Night

PULL DOWN THE NIGHT by Nathan Kotecki will be released in the U.S. on October 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HMH Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 352 pages.

PULL DOWN THE NIGHT is the second book in author Nathan Kotecki’s The Suburban Strange series.

    Dots_Divider

I have not yet had the chance to read the first book in this series but have pre-ordered PULL DOWN THE NIGHT so that I can read both books back-to-back. I received an early copy of THE SUBURBAN STRANGE, but was in a bit of a quirky reading mood at the time and didn’t get the opportunity to devour it.

Now that the sequel’s release is just about here, I definitely want to try to get both books on the pile so I can meet Celia, find out more about the Rosary and learn why girls at Suburban High are having “near-fatal accidents” just as they’re about to turn sixteen.

I did end up taking a peek at the description for this second book in the series and I’m curious to see if this book is told from the POV of Bruno, a new character. I can’t wait to find out more about his supernatural abilities and to see just what “cosmic battles” he gets involved in.

But I’m also super curious to experience this series from both Celia and Bruno’s perspectives. And I hope to be able to do so some time next month.

    Description…

This year at Suburban High School is just as troubling as the last. A curly-haired girl ghost is disrupting lives with dreaded “kiss notes,” and students are inexplicably sinking into depression. Bruno—the new kid on the block—finds himself at the center of the mystery when he discovers his natural map-reading abilities are actually supernatural. When the reluctant hero isn’t engaged in cosmic battles against evil, Bruno is swooning over the mesmerizing Celia (from The Suburban Strange) and navigating the goth sensibilities and musical obsessions of the Rosary, her über-chic clique. A hypnotic coming-of-age novel that chills and thrills.

Calling Anna and Bennett’s romance long distance is an understatement: she’s from 1995 Chicago and he’s a time traveler from 2012 San Francisco. The two of them never should have met, but they did. They fell in love, even though they knew they shouldn’t. And they found a way to stay together, against all odds.

It’s not a perfect arrangement, though, with Bennett unable to stay in the past for more than brief visits, skipping out on big chunks of his present in order to be with Anna in hers. They each are confident that they’ll find a way to make things work…until Bennett witnesses a single event he never should have seen (and certainly never expected to). Will the decisions he makes from that point on cement a future he doesn’t want?

Rafael Angelos just got handed the greatest gift any teenage boy could ever dream of. Upon arriving at his new boarding school for senior year, he discovered that he is the ONLY male student. But what should have been a godsend isn’t exactly heaven on Earth.

Raffi’s about to learn that St. Mary’s is actually a hub for demons-and that he was summoned to the school by someone expecting him to save the day. Raffi knows he’s no angel-but it’s pretty hard to deny that there’s some higher plan at work when he wakes up one morning to discover a glowing circle around his head.

Helen Keeble’s debut novel, Fang Girl, has been praised for its pitch-perfect teen voice, and VOYA called it “refreshing and reminiscent of Louise Rennison’s Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series.” No Angel brings you angels and demons like you’ve never seen them-complete with the wry humor of Vladimir Tod, sinfully irreverent romance, and some hilariously demonic teenage dilemmas.

An all-new, edge-of-your seat adventure from James Dashner, the author of the New York Times bestselling Maze Runner series, The Eye of Mindsis the first book in The Mortality Doctrine, a series set in a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares.

Michael is a gamer. And like most gamers, he almost spends more time on the VirtNet than in the actual world. The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and it’s addictive. Thanks to technology, anyone with enough money can experience fantasy worlds, risk their life without the chance of death, or just hang around with Virt-friends. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Why bother following the rules when most of them are dumb, anyway?

But some rules were made for a reason. Some technology is too dangerous to fool with. And recent reports claim that one gamer is going beyond what any gamer has done before: he’s holding players hostage inside the VirtNet. The effects are horrific—the hostages have all been declared brain-dead. Yet the gamer’s motives are a mystery.

The government knows that to catch a hacker, you need a hacker.
And they’ve been watching Michael. They want him on their team.
But the risk is enormous. If he accepts their challenge, Michael will need to go off the VirtNet grid. There are back alleys and corners in the system human eyes have never seen and predators he can’t even fathom—and there’s the possibility that the line between game and reality will be blurred forever.

Ack, it’s another eight book week! And I am pretty sure Inara Scott’s A SLEEP SO DARK is releasing this week. So I’m keeping an eye on Amazon so that I can download it to my Kindle when it does release.

Plus I might have STRIKEFORCE, DEATH, AND THE GIRL HE LOVES and TIME AFTER TIME pre-ordered, though I refuse to check as the thought of adding eleven books to my Kindle this week is kind of freaking me out. And as I’ve only read one-and-a-quarter of the books being added to my collection, it means my TBR pile is growing. Rapidly.

I am hopeful that next week there will be fewer releases that I “must have” as this past couple of months of bookish purchases have been hugely expensive. And as my Kindle refuses to download any more books, I’m forced to archive the ones I do have so that I can download new ones from the cloud.

I probably should move off the books that I’ve already read, but I love, love, love most of those books and I want to have them with me always, not hanging out on some random cloud.

Anyway, I wish you the best of book buying weeks and I hope that at least one of this week’s releases is a must read for you. If there are any other books that I’ve missed that you think I should know about, please let me know!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

Giveaway: Crash by Lisa McMann SIGNED

    CRASH signed

As some of you may know, I think Lisa McMann is a total rockstar author. I’ve loved her writing since before I became a book blogger and will love it long after. And because I think she is awesome and I love the unique voice and style she brings to her books, I have decided to give away a signed copy of her newest release here on the blog.

While I haven’t yet read CRASH, I have every intention of doing so in the next few weeks. Although, as it’s the first in a series I’m still somewhat hesitant. Because I know what waiting for the last book in the author’s Wake trilogy did to me. It wasn’t pretty….

If you haven’t yet heard of CRASH I thought I’d include the description below, but you can click on the photo above to add it to your TBR pile on Goodreads.

    Line_001

    Goodreads description…

If what you see is what you get, Jules is in serious trouble. The suspenseful first of four books from the New York Timesbestselling author of the Wake trilogy.

Jules lives with her family above their restaurant, which means she smells like pizza most of the time and drives their double-meatball-shaped food truck to school. It’s not a recipe for popularity, but she can handle that.

What she can’t handle is the recurring vision that haunts her. Over and over, Jules sees a careening truck hit a building and explode…and nine body bags in the snow.

The vision is everywhere—on billboards, television screens, windows—and she’s the only one who sees it. And the more she sees it, the more shesees. The vision is giving her clues, and soon Jules knows what she has to do. Because now she can see the face in one of the body bags, and it’s someone she knows. Someone she has been in love with for as long as she can remember.

In this riveting start to a gripping series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa McMann, Jules has to act—and act fast—to keep her vision from becoming reality.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #106

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of January 8-January 14th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    Just One Day

JUST ONE DAY by Gayle Forman will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Dutton Juvenile, the print edition is 320 pages.

JUST ONE DAY is the first book in author Gayle Forman’s new two-book series of the same name. The second and final book in the series, JUST ONE YEAR, is also slated for release in 2013.

    ***

It has been so long since I read a book by Gayle Foreman. As one of my most favorite contemporary authors I am so unbelievably thrilled that JUST ONE YEAR will be downloading to my Kindle this week.

I am both anxious and excited to meet Lulu, to go on that journey with her over the course of the year as she looks for answers about her life and looks to find her “almost-true-love.” The description calls this a “breathtaking journey” and promises to be “sweepingly romantic.” And I cannot wait.

I am hopeful this story, and two-book series, will be every bit as gorgeous and beautifully written as If I Stay and Where She Went. But I am also nervously hopeful that this will be more of a love story with a happy ending than the heartbreaking tragedy that befell the main character and her family in that other “duet of novels.”

I may end up taking a peek and then find that I will not be able to put this down a bit later this week. Because this author’s writing is just that impossible to step away from once you’ve begun reading. At least it is for me.

But if I don’t get the chance to take a look this week, then I will definitely be diving in next week. JUST ONE YEAR is not just a must read, but a must read now.

    Through the Ever Night

THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT by Veronica Rossi will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 352 pages.

THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT is the second full-length book in author Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky series. The third book in the series, INTO THE STILL BLUE, is expected in 2014.

    ***

One of my saddest bookish moments of 2012 was the fact that I did not get to devour UNDER THE NEVER SKY. I will be reading it this year. In the very near future, actually. But I would have loved to have read it already so I could devour book two immediately upon its release.

While I haven’t yet read book one, I did buy the novella recently and THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT will be downloading on my Kindle on Tuesday. So, all three stories will be ready to read the moment I can squeeze them in this winter.

I did make the mistake of taking a peek at the description and now I’m trying desperately to forget what I read about Perry and Aria. Well, everything except for the fact that this book promises to be a “captivating love story” that is “as perilous as it is unforgettable.”

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can start reading the first book in the series at the end of this month so I can read this sequel immediately thereafter. I have heard nothing but amazing things about this author and this series and I cannot wait to finally discover that for myself.

    Crash

CRASH by Lisa McMann will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 256 pages.

CRASH is the first book in Lisa McMann’s Visions series. The second book, BANG, is slated for release on October 8, 2013.

    ***

I cannot believe that Lisa McMann’s CRASH is releasing this week and will be living on my Kindle in just a matter of days. It seemed like only yesterday I was spotlighting it for my Book Watch post and in just a few days it will be mine, mine all  mine.

Mine to devour. Mine to love. Mine to have forever and ever.

And, as always, I won’t ramble on too much about this book – again – but I cannot wait to meet Jules and see just what she does to” keep her vision from becoming reality.” And I am so excited to finally have another series by this author to devour over the next few years.

The author’s WAKE trilogy is one that is still so memorable and CRYER’S CROSS is and will forever be a favorite. So I’m really hoping to sneak this one in next week, although I’m listening to DEAD TO YOU in audiobook format right now. So maybe this will have to wait just a bit longer…. or not.

    Timekeeper

TIMEKEEPER by Alexandra Monir will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 288 pages.

TIMEKEEPER is the second full-length book in Alexandra Monir’s Timeless series.

    ***

I own but still have yet to read TIMELESS. But I am super excited this sequel will be downloading on Tuesday to my Kindle. Because I think these books will be perfect to read back-to-back with no wait between them.

I totally took a peek at the description for TIMEKEEPER and while it does reveal some information of what happened before, it doesn’t feel spoiler-y. What it does do is make me want to read this sequel right now… and its predecessor.

I want to know why Philip has lost his memory and I want to learn more about this Time Society. I’m a bit anxious about why there’s a “vengeful Windsor ancestor” and why this more than century-old “rift” could have “life-or-death consequences.” And for whom.

The description promises a “breathtaking romance” that combines with “complex magic” and I cannot wait to be enchanted by this love story. As I’ve been very much in the mood as of late to read contemporary and historical YA romances I think this series that also involves time travel will be added to the pile very soon.

    Paper Valentine

PAPER VALENTINE by Brenna Yovanoff will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 368 pages.

    ***

I have yet to read a book by author Brenna Yovanoff and yet I own both THE REPLACEMENT and THE SPACE BETWEEN and now PAPER VALENTINE will be joining the collection this week.

I’d first noticed this book because of this cover which is definitely unique and yet I find it so incredibly unsettling. I’m not sure why, but as I look at it, I get a sense of unease.

And that’s not even having read the description. Which I only just did now that I’m creating this post.

I had no idea that this story was a ghost story and a murder mystery. But now that I do I’m even more thrilled to be adding this to my collection. This book of a “city in panic” and a world of “ghost girls and horrifying secrets” sounds absolutely enthralling.

I cannot wait to meet Hannah and find out if I can solve the mystery of who this Valentine Killer is or if I’ll be kept in the dark with only my suspicions.

And even though I have those two other books by the author on my pile, I think this one sounds like the perfect book to be introduced to her writing. And I hope to do so early this spring.

    Rise

RISE by Andrea Cremer will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Philomel, the print edition is 416 pages.

RISE is the second book in author Andrea Cremer’s Nightshade Prequel series

    ***

Yes I own the first book in this prequel series and yes it’s still sitting on my TBR pile. But I just had to pre-order this second book in the series because I really, really want to read both books. Even though I haven’t read the final book int the author’s Nightshade series.

I want to dive into this series that is set before the events that took place in Nightshade. I want to meet Ember and Barrow. The description promises dark magic, “supernatural horrors,” mysterious characters and “shocking revelations.” How could I not want to dive in?

Andrea Cremer has a wonderful writing style and has created characters that I loved in that first series. While I’m still not ready to let that series end, I don’t see why I can’t read RIFT and RISE and meet these new characters and discover this new world.

And I really hope to do so in the next month. Especially as it’s dubbed as being “richly sensual” and “full of magic, action and danger.”

    **UPDATE**

    Blood Prophecy

BLOOD PROPHECY by Alyxandra Harvey released in the U.S. today, January 8, 2013, in hardcover and paperback formats. (The eBook had an earlier release date of December 24, 2012.)

It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Walker Childrens, the print edition is 496 pages.

BLOOD PROPHECY is the sixth and final book in the author’s Drake Chronicles.

    ***

As I’d already briefly mentioned BLOOD PROPHECY in my Book Watch post the week it was releasing in eBook format – and it was added to my collection – I completely forgot to mention it this week as I’d intended.

As release date is now upon us, and as I’ve had the eBook in my possession for over two weeks, I am just going to list it here in order to be thorough, rather than ramble on endlessly after-the-fact about how much I love this series, its characters and this author’s writing.

I do have to add – because I just can’t say nothing – that I cannot believe this series is ending and that I am so far behind on it. But I suppose that now that it has ended I will be able to catch up… though I’m not sure I’ll be ready to say goodbye when I do.

There are so many awesome books releasing this week and I’m trying so hard not to add the three “of note” books to my collection before their release date. But I’m one click away from hitting “pre-order” as I write this post.

I haven’t yet read any of the six books I have pre-ordered and in some case haven’t read the first book in the series. So there are a LOT of new books for the TBR pile this week. Which is a good and bad thing.

I am most excited for Gayle Forman and Lisa McMann’s books as I have been a huge fan of both authors for quite some time now. But I’m equally excited to finally “meet” Veronica Rossi, Brenna Yovanoff and Alexandra Monir’s characters.

I really hope to be able to sneak both JUST ONE DAY and CRASH onto my reading pile or go “off-pile” to read either or both of them in the next couple of weeks. Because I don’t want either book to get buried as the year moves forward.

So there are six new books for the pile with three potential adds on release date. I’m pretty sure next week is equally as packed-full, if not, I know that the weeks of the 22nd and 29th will be. So I’m really hoping to get a jump on some of my reading by then.

    Anyway…

As always, I hope there are one or two titles you can finally scratch off your list of to be read with this week’s releases. And if there is anything I forgot to list… or buy… I would love a heads up.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    Book Watch: Crash

CrashCRASH by Lisa McMann will be released in the U.S. on January 8, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, the print edition is 256 pages.

CRASH is the first book in a new series, Visions, by author Lisa McMann.

    ***

There are a TON of awesome books releasing on January 8, 2013. A few that I’ve been waiting ages and ages and ages for. But when it came down to picking which book to put in the spotlight this week, I just had to choose CRASH by Lisa McMann. There really was no other option for me.

Because I love Lisa McMann’s writing. I think she always brings something just a little bit different to her stories. And it has been ages since she’s written a series for a YA audience and I’ve missed being able to continue her stories from book to book to book. And in this case, there will be not three, but FOUR books in her Visions series.

This book sounds eerie. It sounds dark. It sounds heartbreaking. And it most definitely has me intrigued.

I am so curious to find out why Jules is having visions, just what she will have to do to prevent them from becoming a reality, and just how she plans on figuring everything out.

With nine lives on the line, one of whom is someone she’s been in love with, I can only imagine that this book will be nail-biting and as “gripping” and “riveting” as the description promises.

I am so excited to embark upon this journey and to meet Jules who may have this “gift” but is just a regular girl who on occasion gets stuck driving her family’s food truck to school. I just know the main character is going to be someone I relate to, and with the author’s unique but always captivating writing style, I cannot wait to dive right in.

CRASH keeps some pretty amazing company with some of the other books releasing on January 8th, but for me it is the book to watch this week.

    About the Book

    Goodreads description:

If what you see is what you get, Jules is in serious trouble. The suspenseful first of four books from the New York Times bestselling author of the Wake trilogy.

And the more she sees it, the more she sees.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #58

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of February 7th-February 13th that I have pre-ordered.

Dead to You by Lisa McMann will be released in the U.S. on February 7, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 256 pages.

I can’t believe Dead to You is releasing this week and that my Kindle pre-order will be downloading in just a few short hours. I’ve been dying to read this book ever since I heard about it and when I received the ARC a few weeks ago I wanted to shove everything off the pile to read it, but I couldn’t.

I won’t go on endlessly since I did spotlight this last month for my Book Watch post, but Lisa McMann is an amazing writer, with a very unique writing style that I always love. And I can’t wait to read this next book of hers, which sounds incredibly dark and mysterious, about a boy, Ethan, who had been kidnapped, has somehow gotten free and has been reunited with his family only to find that something “unspeakable” is blocking his memory.

It sounds chilling and I just can’t wait to uncover the mystery.

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood will be released in the U.S. on February 7, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and in hardcover and eBook formats at Barnes & Noble.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 272 pages.

Born Wicked is the first book in The Cahill Witch Chronicles by author Jessica Spotswood and is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

I have been excited for the release of Born Wicked for what seems like ever. I have an early copy, but haven’t had a chance to read it, but I will be reading it very soon. I’m just not sure if I’ll read the ARC or the eBook I have pre-ordered.

This cover is absolutely stunning and it and its title are what drew me to this book in the first place. But once I read the description, the story itself ensnared me. This story about witches sounds totally intriguing, filled with secrets upon secrets – the girls being witches, whatever Cate discovers about her mother, a “forbidden romance,” and what sounds like a dark fate that the Cahill girls have waiting for them.

I cannot wait to get this on my reading pile because Born Wicked sounds like a debut that I definitely shouldn’t miss out on reading right now.

Two Truths and a Lie by Sara Shepard will be released in the U.S. on February 7, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 304 pages.

Two Truths and a Lie is the third book in the Lying Game series by author Sara Shepard. The fourth book in the series, Hide and Seek, is slated for release on July 31, 2012.

I read the first book in this series by author Sara Shepard and loved it. I bought the sequel, Never Have I Ever, but haven’t been able to read it yet. I decided to order this third book in the series, Two Truths and a Lie, with the idea I’ll be able to read both book two and this book back-to-back before the next book comes out in July.

I have not read the description for this book because I do not want to accidentally discover any spoilers from book two, but it is linked in the cover above. I am so super curious as to what’s happened to Sutton and Emma, how much of the mystery was revealed so far in this series and what new questions have arisen since I last checked in with them.

These aren’t typically the kind of books I read, but after reading book one I can’t help but want to find out where this story will lead. It’s definitely an addictive series and I can’t wait to get caught up on it soon.

The Wood Queen by Karen Mahoney will be released in the U.S. on February 8, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Flux, the print edition is 336 pages.

The Wood Queen is the second book in The Iron Witch series by author Karen Mahoney.

    ***

I loved the first book in Karen Mahoney’s The Iron Witch series. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of this second book in the series. I thought the story was incredibly entertaining and I’ve been wanting to know a lot more about Donna and the world she is a part of. And I fell completely in love with the cover for book one.

The description doesn’t reveal much about what’s in store for Donna in this next book in the series, but it definitely doesn’t sound good. The Wood Queen is seeking vengeance against her and the alchemists aren’t exactly her biggest fans for what she’s done. But I get the feeling that this second installment in the series will be action-packed and I can’t wait to see what happens.

I only have four books pre-ordered this week because the Jennifer Echols book, The One That I Want, that I have listed in Other Books of Note is one I already purchased in eBook format, though the paperback edition is releasing this week.

Even though it is a fairly slow release week for books I’m purchasing, I am really excited to read all four books I have on order. And I really hope to be able to do so before the end of the month when I have quite a few books pre-ordered so that they don’t fall too far down in my reading pile.

While I love release weeks when I have at least six books pre-ordered, I am happy when there are a few slower weeks so that I can pretend that I’m keeping up with my ever-growing TBR pile.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
