Best Books I’ve Read in 2015

    Today’s topic is:

BEST BOOKS I’VE READ IN 2015

I’ve read so many seriously amazing books this year, that picking just ten was a dreadfully impossible task. I’m just glad I read THE STARS NEVER RISE by Rachel Vincent in 2014 or it would have made narrowing down my list that much more horrendous. It also didn’t help that I read more books this year than last, that I’ve been in an eclectic reading mood, and that there were just so many incredible books written.

#1 MENAGERIE by Rachel Vincent – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s unique, it’s hard-hitting, the writing is beautiful, the story is phenomenal, the series potential has me desperate for the next installment.

#2 DEAD OF WINTER by Kresley Cole – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because this series is an all-time favorite, because the ending is abso-freaking-lutely killer, because it’s dark and gorgeous and the waiting is exquisite torture.

#3 SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because the story is epic, the world-building incredible, the writing gorgeous, the detail impeccable.

#4 TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU by Claudia Gray – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because the writing is stunning, the world expansive and fascinating, the series riveting.

#5 BRUTAL YOUTH by Anthony Breznican – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s dark and gritty and edgy and shocking and disturbing, the writing brilliant, the story unforgettable.

#6 SCHISM by Jenna Black – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s complex and interesting and fascinating. The world is chilling and still amazing. The characters sympathetic and scary. The story compelling.

#7 AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s thrilling and epic and gripping and unputdownable. The dual POV makes it edge-of-your-seat exciting.

#8 THE ROSE SOCIETY by Marie Lu – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s so wicked and dark and wildly entertaining. It’s about villains. Nothing more needs to be said.

#9 ROOK by Sharon Cameron – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s action-packed, nerve-wracking, suspenseful. There are twists and turns. There’s romance, betrayal and heartbreak. What’s not to love?

#10 SALT & STONE by Victoria Scott – AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

Why? Because it’s awesome and amazing and adorable and nail-biting. The characters are ones you can’t help but love, love, love. Though the possibility that there might not be a next book in the series is heartbreaking.

    Honorable Mentions

I really wanted to limit honorable mentions to just five, but I couldn’t do it. Limiting it to 15 was hard enough as it was.

So those are my favorite reads for 2015. What are yours?

    Review: LION’S SHARE

    Lion's Share Final
    Add to Goodreads

    Title & Series: LION’S SHARE (Wildcats #1)
    Author: Rachel Vincent
    Release date: February 23, 2015
    Pages: 256
    Formats: Paperback, eBook

    Description…

Abby Wade has a dangerous secret.

Two months ago, she disobeyed an order, but instead of kicking her out of the Pride, Jace offered her a job. Since then, she’s been battling a completely inappropriate crush on the young, hot Alpha. But when accepting his job offer seems like the only way to keep her skeletons safely in their closet, Abby doesn’t hesitate.

Jace Hammond has a big problem.

A rogue is slaughtering humans in his territory, and he must eliminate the threat before the entire shifter species is exposed. There could not be a worse time for Abby to accept a job he only offered as a boost to her confidence. Abby is smart, beautiful, and resilient—more than enough to distract any man from the mission. Unfortunately, she may just be the worst enforcer ever to hold the title.

As they hunt the killer, Abby’s secret becomes a threat to Jace’s authority and to her own life. But the real danger is the grip she has on his twice-shy heart.

    AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE | GOODREADS

NOTE: While this review is based on a purchased eCopy of the book, I had received an early copy from the author to beta read.

    The Review

LION’S SHARE is an incredible start to Rachel Vincent’s spinoff series Wildcats. It has the perfect mix of action, mystery, tension and suspense, and steamy sexy romance. Told from both Abby Wade’s and Jace Hammond’s points of view, readers will get to experience the sizzling chemistry, the search for the killer, get teased about the secrets being kept, and uncover the shocking and horrifying truth about the victims from each character’s perspective.

With a killer on the loose in his territory, Jace Hammond has to bring Abby back to the safety of the Pride. He can’t risk her remaining at school unprotected, especially after what happened on the camping trip she took with her roommate during fall break. And while he might have expected Abby to put up a fight about leaving, he did not expect her to insist on joining the hunt. Or to keep secrets from him about why she really wanted to come along. And he certainly didn’t expect to feel things about her that he had absolutely no business feeling.

Abby Wade never imagined how much trouble she would get into by demanding Jace keep his promise and allow her to become an enforcer. She just needed to ensure that her secrets remained secret. She didn’t think the price would be as high as it was. Or that her decision would affect anyone other than herself. And she never thought it could mean losing the one person she was willing to give her heart to.

Author Rachel Vincent brings together two characters that readers of her Shifters series already know and love and new readers will instantly adore in her novel LION’S SHARE. She gives readers the chance to get to know some of their thoughts and feelings and secrets by telling the story from each of their perspectives. And she allows bits and pieces of the mystery to unfold in the alternating chapters, prolonging the anticipation and suspense, until most everything is revealed – except for what remains to be uncovered in future books in the series – by the story’s end.

The author keeps the pace steady, the flow smooth, and the tension building through each of the viewpoint transitions. She teases readers with the secrets Abby’s keeping, with the growing attraction between the characters, and with the mystery behind the deaths of the locals in Jace’s territory. And she adds in just the right amount of heat to make their romance sinfully delicious.

LION’S SHARE goes beyond the basic framework of a new adult romance. It incorporates all the elements of urban fantasy and paranormal romance that readers have come to expect from the author and it melds them seamlessly together into a story that is exciting and gripping and enticing and unputdownable and the start of a series that promises to be amazing.

    The Rating

Darkness06 Like In-N-Out Burger‘s infamous secret menu this one deserves my off-the-menu 6 star rating.

Giveaway: LION’S SHARE by Rachel Vincent

    giveaway

I am a huge fan of Author Rachel Vincent’s Shifters series and am so excited that Jace and Abby got their very own story in LION’S SHARE. I LOVE this new spinoff and cannot wait to read all the books. And because I love it so much I just had to offer up a few eBook copies for giveaway and plan on hosting another giveaway once it’s available in print.

LION’S SHARE is an amazing read, told from both Jace and Abby’s POV. It’s sexy, it has action, a bit of a mystery, and captures all the awesomeness of Shifters and brings something new to the world.

If I haven’t completely lost my mind due to my upcoming move, I’ll be sharing my review next Wednesday. But for now here’s some information about the book that’s up for grabs.

cover-revealPINK_darkenessI am so unbelievably thrilled to be able to participate in the cover reveal for Rachel Vincent’s LION’S SHARE, the first novel in her spinoff series Wildcats. I absolutely love, love, LOVED her Shifters series and am so excited about this new series with one of my favorite characters from that series.

    Jace Hammond… *SIGH*… *SIGH*… *SIGH*…

And I adore Abby Wade, too. And I just know this series is going to be every bit as amazing as all of Rachel Vincent’s other series.

But enough about what I think about this book. Today it’s all about the cover. And it’s a cover I think is gorgeous, and sexy, and captures these characters and fits this story perfectly.
