Book Watch: Releasing This Week #166

    bookwatchRELEASE

Below are the (mostly) YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of March 4th-March 10th that I have pre-ordered.

PANIC by Lauren Oliver will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 416 pages.

    divider2

I am so excited for PANIC‘s release this week. I love Lauren Oliver’s writing and I can’t wait for everyone to get the chance to read her latest release. I was stoked to get the chance to read this early, which I did ages ago. But it’s been awhile, so I’m thinking it’s time for a re-read.

I’ve had this pre-ordered from the moment it was available to buy for the Kindle and I’m anxiously awaiting its download. I’m curious to see if there were any changes to the story from the eARC. Especially as regards the way things ended.

This book was every bit as awesome as what I’d expected from the author. However I was totally surprised by just how the story ends. Of course I won’t reveal in what way I was surprised, just that I was.

But I will say that it was a fantastic read, and I hope to be able to re-read it this month.

    Description…

Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn’t know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

    The Winner's Curse

    AddtoGoodreads

THE WINNER’S CURSE by Marie Rutkoski will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR), the print edition is 368 pages.

THE WINNER’S CURSE is the first book in Author Marie Rutkoski’s The Winner’s Trilogy. A prequel novella, BRIDGE OF SNOW, was released on January 28th. The second and third books in the series are currently untitled.

    divider2

I just recently read and love, love, loved THE WINNER’S CURSE and am now eagerly awaiting the finished copy to download to my Kindle. This is one of the books I was excited for long before I got the chance to read it, and now that I have, I’m that much more anxious for its release.

As I spotlighted it for my Book Watch post the other week and I’m hoping to post a review this week, I won’t ramble on too much about what I loved about it. But I can say that it was even better than I hoped it would be. I loved the world the author created. I can’t believe the way things ended. And I’m dying to read the sequel.

Since I just finished reading it last week, I won’t be re-reading it when my copy arrives, but I will definitely be re-reading it. It’s one of my favorite reads this year and I am kind of madly in love with it right now.

    Description…

Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

    Steadfast

    AddtoGoodreads

STEADFAST by Claudia Gray will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 352 pages.

STEADFAST is the second book in Author Claudia Gray’s Spellcaster series. The release date for the third book in the series, SORCERESS, is not yet set.

    divider2

I love Author Claudia Gray’s writing and I love the Spellcaster series, so I am totally stoked that STEADFAST is releasing this week and that the finished copy will be downloading to my Kindle.

I got the chance to read this sequel pre-release and I loved it even more than the first book in the series and hope to post a review later this week or next week. So I don’t want to talk too much about what happens with Nadia, Verlaine and Mateo. And as the description is just a tiny bit spoiler-y for the first book in the series as regards a certain character, I don’t want to talk ramble about it here.

But I’ll just quickly say it’s a little bit darker, a whole lot more twisty-turny and a totally exciting addition to this crazy addictive series. Of course waiting for the next book in the series is going to annihilate me.

    Description…

Nadia, Mateo, and Verlaine have saved Captive’s Sound from the dark Sorceress Elizabeth…or so they thought. Despite their best efforts, a crack opened and a new, greater evil seeped through. With Mateo as her Steadfast, Nadia’s magic is magnified and she is more powerful than ever. But there is still so much she doesn’t know about the craft, leaving her open and vulnerable to a darker magic…which has begun to call Nadia’s name.

    Death Sworn

DEATH SWORN by Leah Cypess will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Greenwillow Books, the print edition is 352 pages.

DEATH SWORN is the first book in a new series of the same name by Author Leah Cypess. The second book in the series is currently untitled.

    divider2

I am super excited for DEATH SWORN‘s release this week. I fell in love with the cover and was totally lured in by the description that I just had to pre-order it for my Kindle.

And as I got the chance to read this early and already know that I love it, I’m even more stoked to have the finished copy for my collection. But I really can’t wait to see what is going to happen in the sequel, so the wait’s not quite over.

As I have read DEATH SWORN and already shared my review, I don’t want to ramble on and on and on here. But I loved this first book in Leah Cypess’ new series, I can’t wait to see what happens with Ileni and Sorin and while I won’t be re-reading DEATH SWORN in the coming weeks, I hope to be able to re-read it closer to the sequel’s release.

    Description…

When Ileni lost her magic, she lost everything: her place in society, her purpose in life, and the man she had expected to spend her life with. So when the Elders sent her to be magic tutor to a secret sect of assassins, she went willingly, even though the last two tutors had died under mysterious circumstances.

But beneath the assassins’ caves, Ileni will discover a new place and a new purpose… and a new and dangerous love. She will struggle to keep her lost magic a secret while teaching it to her deadly students, and to find out what happened to the two tutors who preceded her. But what she discovers will change not only her future, but the future of her people, the assassins… and possibly the entire world.

    AddtoGoodreads

WAYFARER by Lili St. Crow will be released in the U.S. on March 6, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 304 pages.

WAYFARER is the second book in Author Lili St. Crow’s Tales of Beauty & Madness series.

    divider2

I cannot believe that WAYFARER is releasing this week and will be downloading to my Kindle on Monday Midnight. I also cannot believe I haven’t yet had the chance to read the first volume in this trilogy.

Though, as this book is a Cinderella story, I may just have to dive into this one first. Because I can’t wait to learn about Ellie Sinder’s abilities as a Charmer. I can’t wait to meet her “prince” Avery Fletcher. I can’t wait to read this story the description calls “stirringly romantic” and “deliciously spooky.”

And I can’t wait to see just what happens with Ellie’s soul. Something I will hopefully have time to discover during the second half of this month. Because I love this author’s writing and it’s been ages since I had the chance to read something she’s written.

    Description…

New York Times bestselling author Lili St. Crow thrilled legions of fans with her dark paranormal series Strange Angels. Now she has created a stirringly romantic, deliciously spooky update of Cinderella, the alluring second volume in her trilogy Tales of Beauty and Madness.

Ellie Sinder is a Charmer—the most powerful of her age that St. Juno’s Academy has ever seen. But Ellie’s stepmother, Laurissa, wields manipulation and abuse to force Ellie to work her spells ever more intensely, for Laurissa’s profit.

Then a train from over the Wastelands arrives in New Haven, bearing on it golden boy Avery Fletcher, newly returned from prep school, wearing a sweater Ellie’d love to bury her face in and a smile as bright as his blond hair. Avery’s arrival sets Laurissa off on a dark and dangerous scheme—and this time the soul up for grabs is Ellie’s.

    Nil

    AddtoGoodreads

NIL by Lynne Matson will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), the print edition is 384 pages.

    divider2

From the very first moment I read the description for NIL I knew I must have this book. And I’m so excited for it to download to my Kindle so that I will not only own it but finally get the chance to read it. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever and ever.

I’ve been very much in the mood for this sort of book as of late – stories that are action-packed, suspenseful, nail-biting. And I can’t wait to meet Charley and Thad and see whether they’ll be able to escape the island of Nil.

While I really shouldn’t read this book right away, as I have so many books I need to read for review, I just don’t think I’ll be able to wait. Scratch that. I know I won’t be able to. Though I will have to wait until this weekend to sneak it onto the pile as I am currently reading three books I need to finish.

    Description…

On the mysterious island of Nil, the rules are set. You have one year. Exactly 365 days–to escape, or you die.

Seventeen-year-old Charley doesn’t know the rules. She doesn’t even know where she is. The last thing she remembers is blacking out, and when she wakes up, she’s lying naked in an empty rock field.

Lost and alone, Charley finds no sign of other people until she meets Thad, the gorgeous leader of a clan of teenage refugees. Soon Charley learns that leaving the island is harder than she thought . . . and so is falling in love. With Thad’s time running out, Charley realizes that to save their future, Charley must first save him. And on an island rife with dangers, their greatest threat is time.

    Half Bad

    AddtoGoodreads

HALF BAD by Sally Green will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Viking Juvenile, the print edition is 416 pages.

HALF BAD is the first book in Author Sally Green’s Half Life trilogy. The second book in the series, HALF WILD, is slated for release in 2015 and the third book is currently untitled.

    divider2

I hadn’t heard of HALF BAD until a copy showed up for review. But when I read the description on the back of the ARC I knew this would be a book I’d want in my collection and so I pre-ordered it. And while I have it on the pile to read this week, I haven’t decided whether to read the ARC or the finished copy or both.

Either way, I can’t wait to meet Nathan and see just how being half bad affects his life. I’m curious to see whether he’s able to escape from his imprisonment and whether being treated cruelly will turn him toward the darker or lighter side of his nature.

The description promises a gripping story of a character whose will to survive is strong and I can’t wait to dive in on Tuesday.

    Description…

A stunning, magical debut. An international sensation.

In modern-day England, witches live alongside humans: White witches, who are good; Black witches, who are evil; and fifteen-year-old Nathan, who is both. Nathan’s father is the world’s most powerful and cruel Black witch, and his mother is dead. He is hunted from all sides. Trapped in a cage, beaten and handcuffed, Nathan must escape before his sixteenth birthday, at which point he will receive three gifts from his father and come into his own as a witch—or else he will die. But how can Nathan find his father when his every action is tracked, when there is no one safe to trust—not even family, not even the girl he loves?

In the tradition of Patrick Ness and Markus Zusak, Half Bad is a gripping tale of alienation and the indomitable will to survive, a story that will grab hold of you and not let go until the very last page.

    Let the Storm Break

    AddtoGoodreads

LET THE STORM BREAK by Shannon Messenger will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 400 pages.

LET THE STORM BREAK is the second book in Author Shannon Messenger’s Let the Sky Fall series. The third book in the series is currently untitled.

    divider2

I feel like it was just yesterday that the first book in this series was releasing, so I’m totally surprised that LET THE STORM BREAK is releasing this week and that my copy will be downloading to my Kindle on Tuesday. LET THE SKY FALL was one of the books I was anxiously awaiting and I’m heartbroken that I haven’t had the chance to read it yet.

But now that the sequel is releasing there’s no way I’m going to wait much longer to read both of these books. I want to meet Vane and Audra. I want to find out whether Audra is able to keep him safe from their enemy. I want to find out what the consequences of their forbidden romance are.

Even though I have this book pre-ordered, I have not read the description for fear of spoilers. But if it sounds half as exciting as the first book does, then I will be totally stoked to be able to read both books back-to-back later this month.

    Description…

Whirlwind romance and breathtaking action continues in the sequel to Let the Sky Fall, which Becca Fitzpatrick called “charged and romantic.”

Vane Weston is haunted. By the searing pull of his bond to Audra. By the lies he’s told to cover for her disappearance. By the treacherous winds that slip into his mind, trying to trap him in his worst nightmares. And as his enemies grow stronger, Vane doesn’t know how much longer he can last on his own.

But Audra’s still running. From her past. From the Gales. Even from Vane, who she doesn’t believe she deserves. And the farther she flees, the more danger she finds. She possesses the secret power her enemy craves, and protecting it might be more than she can handle—especially when she discovers Raiden’s newest weapon.

With the Gale Force weakened by recent attacks, and the power of four collapsing, Vane and Audra are forced to make a choice: keep trusting the failing winds, or turn to the people who’ve betrayed them before. But even if they survive the storms sent to destroy them, will they have anything left to hold on to?

    16ThingsIThoughtWereTrue

    AddtoGoodreads

16 Things I Thought Were True by Janet Gurtler will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Sourcebooks Fire, the print edition is 304 pages.

    divider2

I only recently learned that Janet Gurtler’s latest novel, 16 THINGS I THOUGHT WERE TRUE was releasing this week. But when I did, I immediately ran to Amazon to pre-order it for my Kindle.

This story sounds absolutely delightful and sweet and a little bit sad. I love the hashtag and am curious to learn what 13 other things Morgan thought were true.

It’s been awhile since I read a road trip story and I’m so in the mood to do so right now. Plus, I’m really curious to find out about this “fake girlfriend” the description mentions. So I hope I’ll be able to sneak this onto the pile next week.

    Description…

Heart attacks happen to other people #thingsIthoughtweretrue

When Morgan’s mom gets sick, it’s hard not to panic. Without her mother, she would have no one—until she finds out the dad who walked out on her as a baby isn’t as far away as she thought…

    Adam is a stuck-up, uptight jerk #thingsIthoughtweretrue

Now that they have a summer job together, Morgan’s getting to know the real Adam, and he’s actually pretty sweet…in a nerdy-hot kind of way. He even offers to go with her to find her dad. Road trip, anyone?

5000 Twitter followers are all the friends I need #thingsIthoughtweretrue

With Adam in the back seat, a hyper chatterbox named Amy behind the wheel, and plenty of Cheetos to fuel their trip, Morgan feels ready for anything. She’s not expecting a flat tire, a missed ferry, a fake girlfriend…and that these two people she barely knew before the summer started will become the people she can’t imagine living without.

    Dangerous

    AddtoGoodreads

DANGEROUS by Shannon Hale will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Bloomsbury USA Childrens, the print edition is 416 pages.

    divider2

DANGEROUS is a book I only just discovered is releasing but one I just had to pre-order for my collection. While I haven’t yet read anything by Author Shannon Hale, I was intrigued by this book’s title and its description.

I am curious about just what this plot is that killed Maisie’s friends, that threatens her life and that is “changing life on Earth as we know it.” I want to know what role she plays and why she’s the only thing keeping “danger and annihilation” at bay.

The description is very cryptic, which is probably the main reason this has piqued my interest. But the fact that Maisie’s middle name is Danger is also something that has made me super curious about this story. Of course, the cover being really awesome plays more than a small part in why I just had to have this book, knowing so very little about it.

I hope to change that early next month when I think I have some time to sneak this onto the pile.

    Description…

Maisie Danger Brown just wanted to get away from home for a bit, see something new. She never intended to fall in love. And she never imagined stumbling into a frightening plot that kills her friends and just might kill her, too. A plot that is already changing life on Earth as we know it. There’s no going back. She is the only thing standing between danger and annihilation.

From NY Times bestselling author Shannon Hale comes a novel that asks, How far would you go to save the ones you love? And how far would you go to save everyone else?

    The Assassin's Blade

    AddtoGoodreads

THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE by Sarah J. Maas will be released in the U.S. on March 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Bloomsbury USA Childrens, the print edition is 464 pages.

THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE is a bind-up of all five of the Throne of Glass novellas. HEIR OF FIRE, the third full-length novel in the series, is slated for release on September 2, 2014.

    divider2

I probably own all five of the Throne of Glass novellas already, but I just had to pre-order this bind-up, THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE, for my Kindle. Because I haven’t yet had a chance to read them all, and this way I’ll be able to read them all back-to-back without having to search.

Which also means I’ll be more likely to read all of them.

I love this series by Author Sarah J. Maas. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, which is coming this September. But this release of the novellas in one full volume, which is apparently over 450 pages, will be the perfect way to tide me over until then… or make me more anxious for its release. The latter statement being more likely.

And while I would love to read these the instant they download, I think I should probably wait just a bit longer, so that the wait for the next book in this series won’t be nearly as torturous. Though with the eclectic reading mood I’ve been in, I have a feeling this will be on the pile very, very soon.

    Description…

Celaena Sardothien is Adarlan’s most feared assassin. As part of the Assassin’s Guild, she’s sworn to her master, Arobynn Hamel, yet Celaena listens to no one and trusts only her fellow killer for hire, Sam.

In these action-packed prequel novellas to Throne of Glass, Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and avenge tyranny. But by acting on her own terms, will Celaena truly free herself from her master, or will she suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery?

This bind-up features all five e-novellas, available in print for the first time!

    Description:

Anne Dowling becomes entangled in a web of secrets involving a missing student and a conspiracy at Wheatley Prep in this fast-paced, juicy follow-up to Prep School Confidential

Anne Dowling—a fresh, original, and funny new YA heroine whose knowing, irreverent voice will remind readers of Pretty Little Liars and Private—is back for her second semester at Wheatley Prep. Although things have settled (somewhat) since her roommate Isabella’s death, Anne’s still kind of obsessed with the disappearance of Wheatley student Matthew Weaver thirty years ago, since she found a picture of him and his crewmates with the words “they killed him” scrawled on the back among Isabella’s things.

When Anne learns that her boyfriend Brent’s dad is one of the now-powerful Wheatley alumni who rowed crew with Matthew, and that the crew team continues to induct new members with a creepy-sounding ritual called “The Drop,” she knows further investigation could put her relationship with Brent in danger. Determined to discover the truth, she reaches out to Anthony, Isabella’s townie brother, who helps her delve deeper into the secrets in Wheatley’s past. Secrets someone would kill to keep hidden. As the school’s Spring Formal—and its notorious afterparty—approaches, Anne sees the perfect opportunity to do some off-campus digging into the lives of Wheatley’s VIPs in this thrilling, unputdownable read—but if she’s not careful, she’ll be the next student who never comes back.

    Description:

A deadly pandemic, a budding romance, and the heartache of loss make for a stunning coming-of-age teen debut about the struggle to survive during the 1918 flu.

For Cleo Berry, the people dying of the Spanish Influenza in cities like New York and Philadelphia may as well be in another country–that’s how far away they feel from the safety of Portland, Oregon. And then cases start being reported in the Pacific Northwest. Schools, churches, and theaters shut down. The entire city is thrust into survival mode–and into a panic. Headstrong and foolish, seventeen-year-old Cleo is determined to ride out the pandemic in the comfort of her own home, rather than in her quarantined boarding school dorms. But when the Red Cross pleads for volunteers, she can’t ignore the call. As Cleo struggles to navigate the world around her, she is surprised by how much she finds herself caring about near-strangers. Strangers like Edmund, a handsome medical student and war vet. Strangers who could be gone tomorrow. And as the bodies begin to pile up, Cleo can’t help but wonder: when will her own luck run out?

Riveting and well-researched, A Death-Struck Year is based on the real-life pandemic considered the most devastating in recorded world history. Readers will be captured by the suspenseful storytelling and the lingering questions of: what would I do for a neighbor? At what risk to myself?
An afterword explains the Spanish flu phenomenon, placing it within the historical context of the early 20th century. Source notes are extensive and interesting.

I have eleven books and two novellas pre-ordered this week. So it’s another insane week for releases and a cruel week for my wallet. But at least this week I’ve read four of the books being added to my collection. So that’s just six full-length novels, a five novella bind-up and two novellas for the TBR. That’s not too bad… right?

Of course, as THE HAVEN sounds amazing and I’m really curious about A DEATH-STRUCK YEAR, I think I’ll be adding at least two more books to the collection this week. So… maybe not so good for the TBR. Oh well.

Anyway, as this post is crazy long already and is more than a little bit late getting posted, I will stop rambling now. But as ever, I wish you a happy bookish acquiring and reading week this week!

    divider1

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #118

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of April 2nd-April 8th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    Nameless Cover
    addtogoodreads

NAMELESS by Lili St. Crow will be released in the U.S. on April 4, 2013 in hardcover and ebook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 336.

NAMELESS is the first book in author Lili St. Crow’s new series Tales of Beauty and Madness.

    Line_001

NAMELESS sounds just so amazing and I’m so excited it’s releasing on Thursday. While I won a signed copy in a charitable auction, I didn’t want to read it because it was signed and I try to never read them if I can help it. So, I’m anxiously awaiting its download to my Kindle on Wednesday Midnight. And I plan on finding some time at the end of this week to dive in.

I am just so curious how this tale is an “evocative update of Snow White” given the book’s description which makes it sound like a completely unique story. Well, aside from the fact that Cami is taken in and cared for by the head of one of seven Families, much like Snow White who was “adopted” by those seven dwarves.

I can’t wait to meet Cami and find out just what her secrets are and why she was scarred and mute when she was found. I’m also very interested in meeting the mysterious Tor and finding out about his past.

I love that this story has the addition of “A Tale of Beauty and Madness” as part of its title, as it makes me all the more intrigued by it. And if I manage to get just a bit more caught up with my must read for review books, I will definitely be diving into NAMELESS later this week.

    The Collector

    addtogoodreads

THE COLLECTOR by Victoria Scott will be released in the U.S. on April 2, 2013 in paperback format – the eBook was released on March 25th. It is currently available to pre-order (and order) online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Entangled Teen, the print edition is 400 pages.

THE COLLECTOR is the first book in the Dante Walker series by author Victoria Scott. The sequel, THE LIBERATOR, is slated for release on August 27, 2013.

    Line_001

I actually already have a copy of THE  COLLECTOR on my Kindle from when it downloaded last week. But I decided to order a print copy to add to my collection, too, and I will hopefully get it on Tuesday.

I’ve already read THE COLLECTOR and fell madly in love with it so there will be no guessing about what Dante Walker was up to in this book. Because I already know. Of course I won’t say what he was up to. That would be spoiler-y. But as you can imagine, if you’ve heard anything about this book, not all of what he’s up to is good.  He is a collector after all.

I will just say that the book lived up to its hype. Dante may not have been at all what I expected, but I loved who he actually was much more than the hyped version. Of course I may just have to re-read it now that I’ll have a couple copies of the finished version. Especially since the release date for the sequel is almost five months away. And that’s way too long to be without Dante Walker.

    Vengeance Bound

    addtogoodreads

VENGEANCE BOUND by Justina Ireland will be released in the U.S. on April 2, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Line_001
I have been dying to read VENGEANCE BOUND since the moment I checked out the description ages ago. It sounds so completely awesome – bloodlust, the Furies, justice… revenge. And I cannot wait for its release on Tuesday.

I can’t wait to meet Cory and learn just how she managed to escape the asylum. But more, I want to know how she can live with the Furies constantly in her head. And I also can’t wait to meet Niko and find out why the Furies are quiet around him and what it all means.

The description calls this book “edgy” and I am so excited to finally be able to go along on Cory’s “quest for revenge.” Even if it means there won’t be a happily ever after in her future.

If I can’t find the time to read it this week, I definitely hope to add VENGEANCE BOUND to the pile next week.

    Dark Triumph

    addtogoodreads

DARK TRIUMPH by Robin LaFevers will be released in the U.S. on April 2, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Houghton Mifflin Books for Children, the print edition is 400 pages.

DARK TRIUMPH is the second book in the His Fair Assassin series by author Robin LaFevers. The third book, MORTAL HEART, is slated for release in 2014.

    Line_001

I am so excited that DARK TRIUMPH releases on Tuesday and that everyone will have a chance to read this amazing book, which I am currently reading. Sybella is awesome. Seriously, seriously awesome.

As I already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post a couple of weeks ago, I will be brief. But I just have to say that I love that this second book in the series follows a new character, even though I totally adore Ismae. I think the world that author Robin LaFevers created is so richly detailed and so easy to get lost in that I have no idea why I didn’t read this book the moment I had a copy in hand.

And I think Sybella’s story is just as exciting as Ismae’s…. maybe a bit more so because I already know I love the world and its characters.

If I hadn’t already wanted to read this book, the description would have completely sold me on it when it mentioned that DARK TRIUMPH “serves betrayal, treachery, and danger in equal measure….”

But I already very much wanted to read it. So the fact that I had pre-ordered a copy for my Kindle should come as no surprise. To anyone.

    The Rising

    addtogoodreads

THE RISING by Kelley Armstrong will be released in the U.S. on April 2, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 416 pages.

THE RISING is the third and final book in author Kelley Armstrong’s Darkness Rising trilogy.

    Line_001

While I am a little bit behind on this series – I still must read book two – I have THE RISING pre-ordered and cannot wait to read it later this month. After the major cliffhanger at the end of THE GATHERING I was slightly hesitant to pick up the next book in the series without having the final book on hand.

Well all that changes this week as the end of the trilogy is upon us. And I am so stoked that I will be able to read the rest of the series without having an excruciating wait. And, I don’t have to re-read the first book as it is still totally fresh in my mind… most likely due to the killer cliffhanger ending.

But I am so excited to get back into this series and see just which of the characters from the author’s other series make their appearance in this one. But I also cannot wait to find out what’s going to happen with Maya… though I refuse to read the description since I haven’t found out exactly what happens in THE CALLING.

I am so sad that this, too, is a short series as I’d love to see a longer YA series by the author. Her paranormal series for adults is quite a bit longer, and as I love all of her characters in this series and her Darkest Powers series, I wish these series would be longer, too.

At least this final book will be releasing this week and I won’t have to wait to conclude this series…. Still not sure I’m ready to see it end, though.

    The Sweetest Dark

    addtogoodreads

THE SWEETEST DARK by Shana Abe will be released in the U.S. on April 2, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Bantam, the print edition is 352 pages.

THE SWEETEST DARK is the first book in author Shana Abe’s series of the same name. The sequel, THE DEEPEST NIGHT, is slated for release on August 13, 2013.

    Line_001

I fell for THE SWEETEST DARK because of its cover and the last two lines of the description, so of course I had to add it to my list of pre-orders. And I cannot believe that it’s releasing on Tuesday. Especially with the sequel releasing just four months from now.

No. No, I’m not complaining about that.

But I cannot wait to get lost in post-Victorian England and in a “love story that defies time.” I cannot wait to discover Lora’s secrets and see just what powers she does have.

And I can’t wait to choose whether I’ll be rooting for Jesse or Armand to be a part of that love story. As both boys seem to be equally appealing from the description, I haven’t the first clue who I’d choose.

I really hope to get the chance to visit Iverson and meet these most intriguing characters later this week.

    Moonset

    addtogoodreads

MOONSET by Scott Tracey will be released in the U.S. on April 8, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both forats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Flux, the print edition is 384 pages.

MOONSET is the first book in author Scott Tracey’s The Legacy of Moonset series. Information on the second book in the series is not yet available.

    Line_001

MOONSET releases next Monday. Wow. I cannot believe it is really going to be on shelves in less than a week. After such a long, long wait, it’s finally almost here! And while I may have read it more than a few times, that fact makes me no less excited for its release which will hopefully download on Sunday night.

Of course I will be stalking the bookstore next weekend in the hope that it will be on shelves a few days early. Fingers most definitely crossed.

And while I could have included MOONSET with next week’s releases, as I follow release weeks from Tuesday through Monday, I just had to list it among this week’s releases.

As I have read it, and talked about it on the blog A LOT, my lips will be sealed from any further praise. Until my review, that is. But I just have to quickly say that I love this book. I love the fact that the story surrounds a coven of witches and that there is dark magic and a dark past. And I cannot wait to see this story continue in the sequel.

    Rise

    addtogoodreads

RISE by Anna Carey will be released in the U.S. on April 2, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 320 pages.

RISE is the third and final book in Anna Carey’s Eve trilogy.

    Line_001

I am so excited that RISE is releasing on Tuesday. Even though I only recently met Eve and Caleb, both already released books have lived on my Kindle since their respective release dates. And so I feel like I’ve known them forever.

And as I am reading ONCE, I am not going to even glimpse at the Goodreads description. Because I have been burned by spoiler-y descriptions in the past and don’t want to have the ending spoiled when I’m so closed to reaching it.

So, I will just say that while I only started reading this series the other week, I am incredibly excited to be finishing it up this week. I love not having to wait between each book, because it allows me to stay immersed in the world, to remain connected to the characters and their plight, and to feel like I’m on this incredible adventure with them.

There is no question that I will be reading RISE on release date, even though it is a series ending book. Because I am not ready to leave the world just yet. I only hope I’ll be ready to say goodbye when the time comes….

    White Lines

    addtogoodreads

WHITE LINES by Jennifer Banash will be released in the U.S. on April 4, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 304 pages.

    Line_001

WHITE LINES will be releasing on Thursday and I cannot wait for my copy to download. I did receive a couple early copies, which I just had to take a peek at. And from what I read so far I absolutely loved the author’s writing style and was intrigued by her main character, Cat. So I had just to pre-order a copy of this book for my collection.

But it was the description that first grabbed my attention. The setting – New York City in the 1980’s – is one that immediately made this a must read. And the fact that the main character tries to escape into NYC’s nightlife makes this story one that is very relatable to me.

The description promises a “gritty, atmospheric” story and I cannot wait to find out if that is true and whether I’ll be held captivate from start to finish.

My plan is to read my early copy before release date. But if I don’t finish reading it by Thursday, I will definitely switch to the finished eBook copy in my collection once it downloads.

    02

I knew the week of April 2nd was a big release week. I just don’t think I knew I had nine books on order. Wow. Plus, I really want to buy IN THE SHADOW OF BLACKBIRDS, but as it isn’t available to pre-order in electronic format, I’m doing a wait-see and will hopefully buy it on release date if it is.

I already read two of the books I have pre-ordered and plan on finishing four more this week – RISE, THE SWEETEST DARK, DARK TRIUMPH and WHITE LINES. Though I really want to be able to read NAMELESS, too. But I think four books are more than I can handle, so I’d say my plan is overly ambitious. But who knows….

And I don’t think next week is quite as packed full of new titles as this week is. But if it is, I hope I’ll be able to read most of them and avoid making my TBR pile grow any larger.

    Anyway…

I hope that you found some amazing titles to add to your collection this week. And if I’ve missed anything, please let me know so that I can check it out and potentially add it to my collection, too.

And if you have a favorite title releasing this week, I’d love to know which one it is you’re most excited for and whether you’ll be moving it immediately to the “currently reading” pile.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    The Extras: October & November

Yes we’re back with this month’s and last month’s “Extras” post. As some of you may already know…

Whenever I find either a legal free download, an excerpt or sneak peek of a book online, I try to link to it in a related post or include the link in my sidebar (to your right).

But once a month I’ll pop them into a post for a “one-stop shop” with a brief description. You may have previously seen some of these in my sidebar and one or two may still be lingering, well here they are once more in case you missed them. (My sidebar tends to have a LOT of info.)

We have a few peeks at upcoming releases, just released books and some of them are just items that have been offered for free for awhile but you might have missed.

I know I’m a month late with this post, so I’m doing one LONG post combining this month and last month, but better late than never. Especially for free stuff!

    November Peeks

Kiss of Frost by Jennifer Estep will be released in the U.S. on November 29, 2011.

Kiss of Frost is the second full-length book in the Mythos Academy series by the author. Dark Frost, the third book in the series, is slated for release in 2012.

This sounds like an exciting series. Gwen Frost is a warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, a school for “myths, magic and warrior whiz kids.” In this sequel, Gwen is in her second year and there is a new mystery or two to solve. It seems two people – an invisible archer and a Reaper – want Gwen dead. And she’ll have to team up with Logan Quinn in order to figure out how to stop them and hopefully survive.

Legend by Marie Lu will be released in the U.S. on November 29, 2011.

Legend is the first book in a new dystopian series by the debut author, set in a militaristic nation, now occupying the western portion of the United States.

The story revolves around June, who is from a well-to-do family, and Day, who is not. Day becomes the suspect in June’s brother’s murder and she is seeking vengeance against his killer. With a description that promises “nonstop action, suspense, and romance,” Legend looks to be an exciting read.

Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie will be released in the U.S. on November 22, 2011.

Unleashed is the first book in the new Wolf Springs Chronicles by the authors.

This new series sounds absolutely intriguing. Katelyn McBride is sent to live in the small town of Wolf Springs, nestled in the Ozarks of Arkansas. The town’s secrets are centuries-old and “sinister” according to the description and Katelyn is the catalyst for some sort of change – for good or bad we do not know.

The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler will be released in the U.S. on November 15, 2011.

The premise of The Future of Us is absolutely fascinating. This story takes readers to back 1996 when fewer than half of high schoolers in the U.S. had used the Internet. Emma gets her first computer and she and her best friend Josh log on to find themselves on Facebook in 2011. Like the title says, they get a glimpse at their future selves and it will be exciting to see what it holds for these two characters.

The authors wrote alternating chapters, according to Carolyn Mackler’s website. She wrote Emma’s first draft and he wrote Josh’s. Then they swapped and edited each other’s work. It sounds like an exciting concept where two different voices are made cohesive through the editorial process and I’m excited to see just how well it all comes together.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi will be released in the U.S. on November 15, 2011.

Shatter Me is the first book in a new dystopian/paranormal series by debut author Tahereh Mafi.

I normally give a little summary based on the Goodreads description for each book. But I’ve read Shatter Me and I loved, loved, loved it, so I first have to say, just read the excerpt. You won’t be disappointed. This book is written so unbelievably beautifully. Any description won’t do it justice.

If you must know the basics and believe me, they don’t even touch on the amazing-ness of this book, Shatter Me is being called a dystopian novel with a paranormal twist. The Reestablishment has imprisoned Juliette for murder. Her touch is lethal and because of that she’s been in isolation for a very long time. After being in captivity for so long, without any human contact, they decide that her deadly touch could be an asset. She could be their weapon. And Shatter Me is Juliette’s story.

The Pledge by Kimberly Derting will be released in the U.S. on November 15, 2011.

The Pledge is a dystopian novel set in Ludania, a violent country where language determines class. The main character Charlaina has the ability to understand all languages, which in Ludania can be very dangerous. And from the description, life in Ludania is harsh and its citizens are fearful, but Charlie seems to be the key to ousting the “oppressive” leadership and changing things for everyone.

The Ripper: The Vampire Diaries: Stefan’s Diaries by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on L.J. Smith’s The Vampire Diaries novel and the CW’s The Vampire Diaries television show, will be released in the U.S. on November 8, 2011.

The Ripper is the fourth volume of Stefan’s Diaries and interestingly, its release corresponds to the appearance of Stefan as “The Ripper” on this season’s show, although this book is about the original serial killer, Jack the Ripper.

This installment takes readers to London in 1888 where Stefan is drawn to the investigation that follows Jack the Ripper, the famous serial killer, and Stefan thinks the killer is a vampire and someone he knows.

Prized by Caragh M. O’Brien will be released in the U.S. on November 8, 2011.

Prized is the second book in the Birthmarked series by the author. Birthmarked was the author’s debut novel.

The second book in this dystopian series follows sixteen-year-old Gaia Stone as she leaves the Enclave and heads out into the wasteland. She’s is captured by another society, where the women outnumber the men, whose rules state that kissing is a crime. And from the description it seems that in order to be reunited with her sister, she must follow their rules and not her heart.

    November Peeks: Already Released

Tiger’s Voyage by Colleen Houck was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

Tiger’s Voyage is the third book in the Tiger’s Curse series by the author. Tiger’s Destiny, the fourth book in the series, and Tiger’s Dream, the fifth book, are both scheduled for release in 2012.

As I haven’t yet read this series, but own the first two books, I’ve been trying to avoid the Goodreads description for this book. But I did get a glimpse. And it seems that this book will bring Kelsey and the tiger princes closer to breaking the curse.

To get a long look inside at the first four chapters from the series website, CLICK HERE.

Reckoning by Lili St. Crow was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

Reckoning is the fifth and final book in the Strange Angels series by the author.

Strange Angels is a favorite series that I’ve fallen quite behind on, so I absolutely will not look at its description on Goodreads. But I know that the first two books in this series, which follows Dru Anderson, a girl with “the touch” who has to constantly battle to survive, were incredibly exciting.

To get a preview at the first chapter of Reckoning, CLICK HERE.

Crossed by Ally Condie was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

Crossed is the second book in the Matched trilogy by the author. The third book, slated for release next year, is currently untitled.

I have yet to read Matched, but it is in my collection. In this installment, Cassia journeys to the Outer Providences to find Ky and according to the description, she still hasn’t decided about a future with Ky or one with Xander. It also promises that twists and turns can be expected for this sequel in a series I can’t wait to devour.

To read an excerpt of the first two chapters of Crossed from EW’s Shelf Life,CLICK HERE.

Last Breath by Rachel Caine was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

Last Breath is the eleventh book in the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. The twelfth book, Black Dawn, will be released in 2012.

In this installment, there are three missing vampires and a new arrival in town named Magnus. Claire Danvers is certain that he he isn’t human, but she’s not sure just what he is. Could there be a new paranormal in Morganville?

Last Breath has already been released, but for those who don’t have it quite yet, but don’t want to wait, CLICK HERE for an excerpt from Penguin’s website.

Dark Eden by Patrick Carman was released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011.

A sequel, Eve of Destruction, is slated for release on April 24, 2012.

Seven teens are sent to Fort Eden in a last-ditch attempt to overcome their fears. But while Fort Eden may hold the cure, the price might not be worth paying. And with an unusual twist at the end about just what’s really going on at Fort Eden and a complete multimedia experience to supplement the story, this is definitely worth checking out.

I have only read a few of the above October and November releases. That’s just how far behind I am with my reading. And I haven’t checked out any of the excerpts.

But I do own most of the books in the above list or have them pre-ordered, so I hope to get to them soon.

I know I’ve missed quite a few Amazon freebie downloads in this post, but if they’re still available when I do my December Extras post in a few weeks, I’ll add them to that, much shorter list.

I hope there are a few excerpts for books that you might enjoy. Happy freebie reading!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #44

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of November 1st-November 7th that I have pre-ordered.

    ***

Reckoning by Lili St. Crow will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in paperback format. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group, the print edition is 30y pages.

Reckoning is the fifth and final book in the Strange Angels series by author Lili St. Crow

    ***

I have been a fan of this series for ages, although since I started blogging I have fallen way behind. I didn’t even realize that this was the final book in the series, though its release has been on my radar for months.

While it’s not yet available for me to pre-order for my Kindle or Nook now, I expect it to be released electronically soon. I own all the other books in the series, have read the first two, and can’t wait for this book to join my permanent collection.

I only took a tiny peek at the Goodreads description, just enough of one to let me know it was the final book, because I didn’t want it to spoil Jealousy or Defiance, which are still on my TBR list. But for those who want to check it out, there is a link to the book page on Goodreads in the cover image.

I can’t believe this series is ending. I would love the opportunity to re-read the series from the beginning so that I can have all four books fresh in my mind when I read this last book. I am hoping for a happy ending, but as I don’t know what happened in Jealousy or Defiance, I’m not certain where things stand for Dru Anderson.

I wish this was already downloadable as an eBook, but this is a book and series that is worth waiting for. Of course if I do get the chance to re-read the series prior to it being made available electronically, I will purchase a print copy of this book to read.

Crossed by Ally Condie will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Dutton Juvenile, a division of the Penguin Group, the print edition is 367 pages.

Crossed is the second book in the Matched series by author Ally Condie.

    ***

Crossed is another book I’ve been anxiously anticipating. I had hoped to read Matched – which I own and which has been on my TBR pile since it was first released – prior to Crossed’s release date, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.

Even though I’m not caught up, I still have this pre-ordered for my Kindle and I hope to get to both books soon. I heard such amazing things about Matched, and the few whispers I’ve listened to about Crossed have been positive, so of course I’ve been dying to dive into this series.

Once again, as I don’t want to read the Goodreads description for fear of spoilers, I’ve linked it through the cover image. But I did check out the Goodreads description for Matched and I’m so super curious about this dystopian novel.

I’ve loved both covers, but I think I love the cover for Crossed a little bit more. The first book’s cover had the girl trapped in the bubble, in this book the girl is breaking free, so I can’t wait to find out just how that relates to the story.

To read an excerpt of the first two chapters of Crossed from EW’s Shelf Life, CLICK HERE.

Touch by Jus Accardo’s official release date in the U.S. is November 1, 2011, although the eBook was made available on October 9, 2011. It is currently available to order online in print and eBook formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Entangled Publishing, the print edition is 251 pages.

Touch is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

Touch is the first book in the Denazen series by author Jus Accardo.

    ***

I heard about this book on author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s blog. I decided to check it out, and after I read the book’s description I just knew that this would be a book I’d love to read. And while I did download the eBook for my Kindle earlier this month, I waited until its official release date to mention it in my Releasing This Week post.

I heard really great things from the bloggers I know who already read this book, so I’m even more excited to start reading this soon. I am super curious to find out just what happens at the Denazen Corporation, why Kale’s touch is deadly and what secret he’s keeping..

I am also dying to find out just who or what the Sixes are and what kinds of weapons they’re being used as.

I’m thrilled that this is already in my permanent collection and I can’t wait to add it to the top of my reading pile, hopefully next month.

Last Breath by Rachel Caine will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by NAL, the print edition is 352 pages.

Last Breath is the eleventh book in the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine.

    ***

This is another series I love but am seriously behind on. I haven’t had a chance to read Ghost Town or Bite Club, which were both released after I started blogging.

I love this series, the world, the characters and the book covers and am excited whenever each book releases so that I can add them to my permanent collection, I just haven’t had the time to read the last few books.

As I already spotlighted this book for my Book Watch post, I will only say that this is just such a fun and easy-to-read series and I can’t wait to get caught up and find out who this new character is in Last Breath.

To get a long look inside Last Breath on the book’s website,  CLICK HERE.

Dark Eden by Patrick Carman will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in hardcover, eBook and audio formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and in hardcover and eBook formats at Barnes & Noble.

Published by Katherine Tegen Books, a division of HarperCollins, the print edition is 336 pages.

Dark Eden is the first book in a new series by the same name from author Patrick Carman.

    ***

While I’ve already read and reviewed Dark Eden and checked out many of the online additions like the “Fear Test” and downloaded the App from iTunes, I do have the eBook pre-ordered for my Kindle.

I gave away my ARC and I want the eBook in my permanent collection. Especially as there will be a book two, which I did not know about when I read it.

Eve of Destruction is slated for release on April 24, 2012 from Katherine Tegen Books, and is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in hardcover format only.

I just have to know where this series is headed after the rather surprising twist at the end. And I’m glad that Eve of Destruction will be released in less than six months.

As I did just recently review Dark Eden, here, and got all sorts of extras as part of my blog tour stop, here, I won’t go rambling on and on. But this is an exciting story that is a bit of a mystery and even more of a chilling thriller. And I’m curious to see if the final version deviates in any major way from the ARC I read for review.

To get a long look inside Dark Eden courtesy of HarperTeen, CLICK HERE.

Tiger’s Voyage by Colleen Houck will be released in the U.S. on November 1, 2011 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats.

It’s currently available to pre-order online in hardcover and audio formats at Amazon, and in eBook and audio formats and an exclusive hardcover edition with an extra chapter, at Barnes & Noble. [To find the audiobook edition at B&N, CLICK HERE.]

Published by Splinter, the print edition is 560 pages.

Tiger’s Voyage is the third book in the Tiger’s Saga series by author Colleen Houck.

    ***

I don’t remember how I first learned of this series, but the cover for the first book in the series was so beautiful I had to buy it. I also purchased the second book in the series and now have the third book in the series pre-ordered at Barnes & Noble.

While I haven’t yet read any of this series, it’s one I’m really looking forward to discovering. Aside from the beautiful covers – and this one’s my favorite – the story sounds absolutely amazing. According to the description of the first book, it’s an epic story that has magic, spells, romance and adventure – all things I love to read about.

As I haven’t yet started the series, I have avoided the Goodreads description for this third book, but I have linked it in the cover image for those who want to know more.

And for an even longer look at the first four chapters of Tiger’s Voyage from the series website, CLICK HERE.

And if you haven’t yet read any of the series, be sure to check out the Tiger’s Curse website, as the first seven chapters of Tiger’s Curse are available to read online as are the first four chapters of Tiger’s Quest.

    ***

Once again it’s another six book week. But there are not too many books that I actually can add to the top of my reading pile. Four of the books are from series that I have earlier books I must read in order to get caught up. One book I’ve already read.

So that just leaves Touch, which I am dying to read just as soon as I get a little more caught up with promised reads.

But those four series books are ones that I’m just dying to get caught up on so that I can read these latest releases. I just hope that I can get to at least one or two of them before the year ends.

    ***

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #16

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of April 19th-April 25th that I have pre-ordered.

Defiance is the fourth book in the Strange Angels series by Lili St. Crow. It will be released in the U.S. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in paperback and eBook formats.

It is currently available for pre-order from Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both formats.

Published by Razorbill, a division of the Penguin Group, the print edition is 259 pages.

I have had this book on my watch list for awhile and continued to check back week after week until I could pre-order it for my Kindle. I love the author’s writing and her young adult series has me hooked. And, of all the books in this series, this one has my favorite cover.

I am slightly ashamed to admit that I haven’t yet read the third book in the series, Jealousy, as I started to read it and discovered that I definitely needed to go back and re-read the first two books as I felt a bit lost. Although I have a clear memory of the characters and the major events, some of the minor details slipped my mind and I didn’t want to lose anything important by reading it without having all details firmly in place.

Of course I ended up reading the description for this book, which I will not put here, as it does have spoilers. Drat! But this definitely sounds like an exciting adventure filled with danger for Dru, so I am going to attempt a four book read-a-thon soon so that I can get all caught up.

Book trailer for Defiance: (Definitely has that kick a**, hard-edge background music which fits the story perfectly)

The Coven’s Daughter is the debut young adult novel for author Lucy Jago. It will be released in the U.S. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in hardcover format and was previously published in the UK in May 2010 by Bloomsbury under the title Montacute House.

It is currently available for pre-order from Amazon and Barnes & Noble in hardcover format only.

Published by Hyperion Books for Children, the print edition is 256 pages.

The Coven’s Daughter is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

Although I don’t have this book on pre-order since it’s not yet available in eBook format, I am expecting to receive an advance copy this week that I acquired through a trade. I am always looking for new debut author’s to discover and the description I’d read made this sound like something I’d be interested in.

It is certainly something different from what I’ve been reading lately and at only two hundred and fifty plus pages it looks to be a quick read. The story is set in Elizabethan times in the 1500’s and promises “[w]itchcraft, politics and religious ambition” which sound like a very dangerous mix. Plus, apparently Montacute House is a real place, which I had not known when I first added this book to my TBR pile. Check out the details here on the author’s website.

I can’t wait to take a peek at this book and I’m so glad they re-titled it for an American audience. I would definitely have passed it by with the UK title as it immediately conjured up a vision of Dickens’ Bleak House which I can say – loved it, but been there, done that and not ready for a third read.

The first chapter of The Coven’s Daughter is available to read on the author’s website, HERE.

The Goddess Test is the debut novel for Aimée Carter. It is scheduled for release in the U.S. on April 19, 2011 in paperback and eBook formats. It is available for pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and in paperback at Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin TEEN the print edition is 304 pages.

The Goddess Test is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

I’ve already spotlighted this for my Book Watch post so I won’t go into endless detail here. Also, I’ve recently finished reading this book and it’s as amazing as everyone has been saying and since my review will be up soon – either on release date on the 19th or the wider distribution date on the 26th – I don’t want to reveal too much here. But this is definitely not a book to miss.

Even before I read it, this was on my watch list, but I only just added it as a pre-order because it wasn’t available for the Kindle until very recently.

As with most books I read based on advance copies, I wonder just how different the finished copy is and hope I get a chance to re-read it soon.

Invincible Summer by Hannah Moskowitz will be released in the U.S. on April 19, 2011 in paperback and eBook formats. It is available for pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both formats.

Published by Simon Pulse, a division of Simon & Schuster, the print edition is 288 pages.

This was another book that had a lot of buzz so I decided to pre-order it quite awhile ago. I then noticed it on Simon & Schuster’s Galley Grab program and downloaded it to read and review. I’m in the middle of reading this book as I write this post, so I’m trying not to let my opinion after-the-fact influence why I wanted to purchase this book in the first place.

Aside from what I heard about Invincible Summer through the blogosphere, I am a huge fan of contemporary YA fiction – almost as much as paranormal YA stories – and I wanted to check out this book, written by a young author, to see what her viewpoint and style are. I hadn’t yet read anything by the author, so I thought this would be a great introduction.

I like summer stories, and ones that take place over time as the characters grow and change always appeal to me. The author mentions that her stories tackle familial relationships, which are also always of interest. So I knew before even starting to read the eARC that I’d definitely want this one for my collection.

I haven’t seen a trailer, but the author talks a bit about Invincible Summer in this video from Simon & Schuster:

    ***

Thankfully – for both my wallet and my TBR pile – this is another fairly quiet week for releases. It seems that HarperTeen is waiting for April 26th to release a slew of new “must reads,” so I have a bit more time to catch up on my reading.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And please let me know if I missed purchasing something that is a “must read.”
