A summer road trip changes everything in this unforgettable new tale from acclaimed author Katie McGarry

For new high school graduate Echo Emerson, a summer road trip out west with her boyfriend means getting away and forgetting what makes her so… different. It means seeing cool sights while selling her art at galleries along the way. And most of all, it means almost three months alone with Noah Hutchins, the hot, smart, soul-battered guy who’s never judged her. Echo and Noah share everything — except the one thing Echo’s just not ready for.

But when the source of Echo’s constant nightmares comes back into her life, she has to make some tough decisions about what she really wants — even as foster kid Noah’s search for his last remaining relatives forces them both to confront some serious truths about life, love, and themselves.

Now, with one week left before college orientation, jobs and real life, Echo must decide if Noah’s more than the bad-boy fling everyone warned her he’d be. And the last leg of an amazing road trip will turn… seriously epic.

    REVIEW

The newest addition to Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series is its most powerful, emotional, heartrending and beautiful. BREAKING THE RULES reunites readers with Echo and Noah in the summer following their high school graduation, when their lives are at a turning point and they’re on the verge of adulthood facing all the challenges that come along with it.

Both Echo and Noah are still struggling with the demons from their pasts and are coming to realize that it’s not as easy to be the people they want to be. Echo is still afraid of the unknown, afraid of change, afraid of risk, afraid of being abandoned, and afraid that she might not be able to stand on her own as an artist. Noah wants to be the man that Echo needs him to be, but his insecurities and his fear of loss might cost him the one person he can’t live without.

Author Katie McGarry has taken their story to the next level. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s heartfelt and moving, it’s relatable. She tackles a point in time in the lives of this young couple where their paths could lead them in different directions. The obstacles she puts in front of them are ones that can’t always be overcome. She makes them face the hard truth that sometimes love may not be enough.

And she does it all in a way that will put readers on an emotional roller coaster, make them ache for everything that Noah and Echo have to go through, and make them wish desperately that the two get their happy ending.

BREAKING THE RULES is a road trip story told in alternating points of view that readers will be able to make a strong connection with, one that deals with real-to-life issues that most couples encounter in their relationship. It’s a story that they’ll fall instantly and madly in love with, with characters that they already adore. It’s a story that shows just how deep the author is willing to dig to add authenticity and to touch readers’ hearts with her characters’ vulnerabilities, their doubts and fears. It’s an amazing story. The very best of the series. And one that is an absolute must read.

BREAKING THE RULES Blog Tour: Echo Interviews Katie McGarry + Giveaway

BTR_BannerVI am so unbelievably excited to be a part of the BREAKING THE RULES Blog Tour hosted by Kismet Book Touring. I am a huge fan of this series by Author Katie McGarry and I cannot wait to read another story about Echo and Noah.

Of course I really, really, hope that the road trip doesn’t end in tears for either of them… or for me. But I can’t wait to find out on December 8th when it releases.

I am also super stoked to have an amazing post in which Katie McGarry is interviewed by Echo. It is actually quite an emotional interview, one which caused me to tear up and made my heart to go out to author. It’s also a total tease – I want to know what that scene is! Yes, Echo really knows how to give good interview.

This tour also includes a fab giveaway. So if you’d like the chance to win, scroll down to the Rafflecopter to enter.

And if you’d like to know more about the book and author or the other stops on this tour, the details are all below. But first, here’s…

    The Interview

    Echo-Interviews-Katie

Echo: Hi, Katie! You and I have had conversations together for a long time, but it’s weird to know that other people are going to be seeing how we talk.

Katie: Yeah, I know, but I wouldn’t have agreed to this if I didn’t think we’d make it safely to the other side.

Echo: True…anyhow…I always smile when people who know you really well mention that they hear the real you in some of me. Do people say that about all your characters or is this a special bond we share?

Katie: For the people who know me very well, they can typically find a small portion of me in all my characters. For instance, they really hear my sarcasm in Beth from Dare You To and how my brain will often search for logical answers in Haley from Take Me On.

But yes, even though you and I have a ton of differences, you are the closest to my “voice” than any of the characters I’ve written.

Echo: Why did you decide to place so much emphasis on therapy in Pushing the Limits and then decide to keep Mrs. Collins as a constant in my life in Breaking the Rules?

Katie: This is an emotional question for me.

There was a time that I would describe my life as being stuck in the middle of a snow globe and it was constantly being shaken into a blizzard. I was on the verge between being a teen and an adult and I couldn’t seem to find my footing on solid ground.

Due to some dramatic events that had taken place during this time period, I was forced into therapy and it was the best thing that ever happened to me, but at the time, I didn’t believe it.

I had one hour sessions and I either didn’t talk to the therapist or I would give whatever answer I believed the therapist wanted to hear so that he would believe that I was “fine” (whatever fine means).

My therapist saw right through me and finally, one day, after I had a run-in from someone in my past that had caused me to consider falling back into old lifestyles, I had a therapy session that changed everything.

I was doing what I normally did—evade, not answer, or give fake answers—and then my therapist said, “I’m only going to ask one more question and is it possible for you to answer this one question honestly?”

Caught off guard that the therapist knew I had been lying, my eyes snapped to his and I agreed.

The therapist asked, “If you could have anything in the world what would it be?”

It wasn’t what I expected the therapist to ask. I was expecting a million different questions that would probe into the world I was working so hard to hide and this extremely vague question rocked me. My eyes filled up with tears and I remember the anger rumbling through me because I couldn’t keep my mouth from trembling.

    “Tell me,” my therapist said.

And for the first time, I gave a completely honest answer. “If I could have anything I wish it would be six months from now.”

The therapist’s eyes widened and I could tell that wasn’t the answer he expected. “Why six months?”

“Because it won’t be now. Anything has to be better than right now.”

Because in six months there was no way the pain I was feeling in that moment would still be as horrible. There was no way my entire life would feel as hopeless as it did then.

For the first time in months, I allowed myself to cry. Tears rolled down my face and I sat and explained why my entire life was a mess and here’s the thing: the therapist listened. Never judged. Never made me feel bad—just listened.

And then, the therapist helped me figure out how I could change my life to make the six months from now be what I hoped it would be.

Therapy changed my life and I wanted to write characters whose lives were also changed by a great therapist.

Echo: So let’s go from serious to a little more fun. What was the most romantic scene for you to write for me and Noah in Breaking the Rules?

Katie: Oh, there are so many, but I have to say the rose scene is a personal favorite!

    Echo: Mine too!

    Review: TAKE ME ON

Take Me On CoverTAKE ME ON by Katie McGarry was released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 544 pages.

TAKE ME ON is the fourth full-length novel in Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series.

NOTE: This review is based on an eARC received from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.

    Description…

Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she’d never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can’t stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she’d stay away from. Yet he won’t last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it’s his fault his family is falling apart. He can’t change the past, but maybe he can change Haley’s future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they’ll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.

    The Review

With each book in the Pushing the Limits series, Author Katie McGarry brings the story to a new level. In TAKE ME ON, she tackles even tougher challenges, challenges that go beyond the two main characters, West and Haley. She weaves them into her story, making them an integral part, not just an afterthought. And she gives her characters the strength to face them and the fight to overcome them.

TAKE ME ON is gritty and realistic and heartfelt and filled with emotion. Readers will easily connect with Haley and sympathize with her situation and their hearts will go out to West. The obstacles to their happy ending are ones that won’t disappear by the story’s end. They are challenges that both characters will have to continue to battle – anger, fear, guilt – in order to succeed. But they are both fighters, and they are not alone.

West is guilt-ridden and reckless and full of anger. He is also stubborn and proud and strong and dedicated. He is willing to stand up for those he loves, even if in doing so he puts himself in danger. Even if the price he’ll have to pay could cost him everything.

Haley is fearful and broken and weighed down by her guilt. She is lost, unsure of how to find her way back to the strong person she used to be. She is embarrassed by what happened to her family, ashamed of what she did and what she let happen to her. She doesn’t know who she is anymore.

But when their paths cross she’ll be forced to decide who and what she’s willing to fight for or whether fighting isn’t worth any risk at all.

TAKE ME ON is a captivating and beautifully written story that alternates between West and Haley’s perspectives. It will take readers through an emotional gauntlet as they discover Haley’s secret, learn about her family’s plight, find out what happens with West, and uncover what he learns about himself. It is romantic yet heartbreaking. It is both sad and sweet. It has depth of plot. It is exciting and riveting and is a lightning-fast read.

It is a story you won’t want to put down.

    The Rating…

    6

Like In-N-Out Burger‘s infamous secret menu this one deserves my off-the-menu 6 star rating.

    On a Personal Note…

I am forever surprised by the books in this series. I think I couldn’t love the next book any more than the last, but I do. I think the author couldn’t dig deeper, but she does. I keep thinking the format will start to feel formulaic, but it doesn’t.

Many of the issues these characters face aren’t ones I can personally relate to. But somehow the author makes her characters relatable, sympathetic, lovable. She makes it so easy to connect with them, to understand what they’re going through, to feel their pain, sorrow, anguish, despair.

These stories are love stories but they are so much more than that. They are life stories. These characters feel very real. Their situations feel real. Their happiness and their unhappiness feels real. Each and every one of their stories is so very memorable.

I wasn’t sure that TAKE ME ON could surpass CRASH INTO YOU. Isaiah is my most favorite character in this series. But this story knocked me down and picked me back up so many times I couldn’t help but fall madly in love with it.

With everything that West went through, my heart broke and shattered. With everything that Haley’s family had to endure, my heart broke over and over again. But with each and every moment where they gave each other the strength to handle all that life was throwing at them, it would mend.

While this could be read out of sequence, I wouldn’t recommend it. I loved getting to know West just a little bit in CRASH INTO YOU. And I loved seeing how different – how wrong – my first impression of him was from what it was in TAKE ME ON. If I hadn’t met him earlier, I never would have seen in what ways he changed and in what ways he was the same.

I also wouldn’t have been able to see just how much more Katie McGarry brought to this story than the last.

While the description only highlights the romance, anyone who has read this series will know it’s much more than just that. But it is romantic. It’s all sorts of swoon-worthy and sexy and hot. It made me sigh. A lot. It made me smile. A lot. And it brought tears to my eyes. Many, many tears.

    Favorite Passage…

There are two passages that are tied for my favorite. And I’d thought about revealing both here. But as they are so important to the story, I figured I should probably only tease one.

And it was so hard to choose. But I decided on the one below that made me swoon and smile and sigh, versus the one that talked of loneliness, that was just a bit more bittersweet.

“You asked me earlier what it was like to come home,” I say.

Haley nods. I lace our fingers together and raise them into the air. “I couldn’t answer you because I didn’t know, but now I do. This—” I rock our hands “—I finally found home.”

TAKE ME ON Blog Tour: West and Haley Character Interviews + Giveaway

    TakeMeOn_BannerH2

I am soooo excited to be today’s stop on the TAKE ME ON Blog Tour hosted by Kismet Book Touring. I have loved every single book in this series and with each new release I don’t think I could love the new story any more than the last. But I do.

Haley and West’s story is amazing. And sad. And heartbreaking. And nerve-wracking. And beautiful. And romantic.

And its awesomeness is not just because of the love story.

I can’t wait for everyone to read this fourth full-length book in the series and meet Haley and get to know West a whole lot better. I can’t wait to see what you think when that certain thing comes to light. And, no, I will not reveal what that is. I will just say that it was something that literally made my jaw drop.

Katie McGarry is a brilliant writer. The stories she crafts are filled with passion and emotion. The characters she creates are so very real. Their backgrounds, the situations they are faced with, the hurdles they have to overcome, and the connections they make with each other, pull you right in, keep you glued to the page, make you feel invested in the outcome, and ensure that you’ll never want to say goodbye.

TAKE ME ON does all of that. And it puts you on even more of an emotional roller coaster with everything that Haley and West have to go through. This is a story that I totally expected to fall madly in love with. What I did not expect was a story as heartrending as it was. I did not expect to love Haley and West as much as I did. I did not expect to be as surprised as I was by a story this far along into a series.

But enough about what I think. If you have read it you know exactly what I’m talking about. And if you haven’t, then you must read it. It’s a book you will definitely want to devour in one sitting.

But if you’d like to know just a little bit more about West and Haley first, I’ve asked each of them a few questions for my stop today. And if you’d like to know more about TAKE ME ON or any of the other books in this series, their details are below. There are also links to places to find the very amazing author online.

And there’s also an awesome giveaway for the chance to win a copy of the book and to be entered into the grand prize tour-wide giveaway.

But first let me introduce West and Haley….

    The Interviews

    West…

    Q. It seems you have a bit of a reputation around school when it comes to girls. Are the rumors true? Is the reputation well-deserved?

(West pulls at the collar of his shirt) Yeah, before Haley I was dating someone different every week. Parties, girls, getting high and trashed, that was my thing. I deserve every name a girl wants to call me, but after the past few months, I cleaned up my act.

I’m definitely a one girl guy now. My heart belongs to Haley.

    Q. You may be easygoing, but you also are known to enjoy a fight. Just how many fights have you gotten into lately? What is it about fighting that you’re drawn to? And what makes walking away such a challenge?

I got into enough fights that I was expelled from school.

Whenever some guy called me out or when my anger got the best of me, I would go into this dangerous zone. I possess no fear. The only thing I can think about is righting whatever I feel is wronged.

Haley’s taught me a lot about what it means to be strong and that the biggest part of being a man is knowing when to walk away and knowing when to stay and fight.

    Q. What was your first impression of Haley when you met her? And did you ever imagine that she’d be a girl worth fighting for?

First impression of Haley? The girl is a walking, talking inferno and I wanted to be burned by her flames. It was obvious from day one that Haley is definitely worth fighting for.

    Q. Why did you choose to keep a secret from Haley about who you are?

Haley has a lot of problems and on the night we met, I got wrapped up into some of those problems. We had enough stacked against us that she didn’t need to deal with the mess I had going on at home.

    Q. What did you think about Rachel and Isaiah when you first found out about them? What do you think about the two of them being together now? And can you tell us what’s been going on with them lately?

I couldn’t stand the thought of Isaiah anywhere near Rachel. In my mind, he was some street thug who was leading Rachel down a dangerous path. He’s proved to me over the past few months how much he loves her. What’s impressive is how he’s been able to shove past his dislike of me in order to help me out.

Rachel and Isaiah have a long road in front of them, but I think they love each other enough to make it.

    …Haley

    Q. If you had to describe yourself to someone who never met you, what would you say?

I’m a fighter—a kick boxer and someone who stands strong for the people she loves.

    Q. What did you think about West Young when you first met him? Has your impression of him changed since you got to know him?

When I first met West, I thought he was cocky. We’ve been together for a bit and I still think he’s cocky, but he’s my type of cocky. West is the best type of guy—the type that has heart.

    Q. Did you really think that you’d be able to keep things “all business” between the two of you? Or did you know that was impossible from the start?

Yes, I really thought I could keep things strictly business between us. I had absolutely no intentions of West and me ever getting emotionally involved, but he was determined and well…it’s hard to not fall for him.

    Q. What has it been like, getting back into the ring to train West when you never never thought that life was a permanent part of your past?

It was terrifying to step back into the ring again and it was even more terrifying stepping into it with someone like West. I had a lot of emotional baggage when it came to the ring and guys and it was tough to tackle both issues, but I’m glad that I did.

    BW-RTWnew

Below are the (mostly) YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of May 27th-June 2nd that I have pre-ordered.

    City of Heavenly Fire

    Add_to_GR

CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE by Cassandra Clare will be released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Margaret K. McElderry Books, the print edition is 752 pages.

CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE is the sixth and final full-length book in Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series.

CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE is my most anticipated read this week. I have been waiting forever and ever for this book’s release and I cannot wait until it downloads to my Kindle on Monday Midnight. I will be reading it the moment it arrives.

I love this series, and I am totally heartbroken that it will be ending. But at the same time I can’t wait, as I feel like I’ve been waiting forever.

I have not read the description, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t want to know until I read about it in the book. And while I normally take forever and ever to read a series-ending book, I don’t want to have this series’ ending spoiled for me, so I hope to be able to read it in one sitting. No matter how late I’ll have to stay up to do so.

    Description…

    ΕRCHOMAI, SEBASTIAN HAD SAID.

    I am coming.

Darkness returns to the Shadowhunter world. As their society falls apart around them, Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends must band together to fight the greatest evil the Nephilim have ever faced: Clary’s own brother. Nothing in the world can defeat him — must they journey to another world to find the chance? Lives will be lost, love sacrificed, and the whole world changed in the sixth and last installment of the Mortal Instruments series!

    Take Me On

    Add_to_GR

TAKE ME ON by Katie McGarry will be released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 544 pages.

TAKE ME ON is the fourth full-length novel in Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series. A novella, BREAKING THE RULES, is slated for release on December 30, 2014.

love this series by Katie McGarry. I hope it never ends. I got the chance to read TAKE ME ON just a little bit early and I love, love, loved it. So of course I can’t wait for the finished copy to download and get added to my permanent collection.

I would love to talk about West and Haley but as I plan on posting a review just after my tour stop next week, I don’t want to ramble on here. But I will just quickly say that Katie McGarry brings her amazing writing and characters to this fourth book in the series. And it’s every bit as awesome as I’d hoped it would be.

I adored West before I read this book, but now I adore Haley too. And while I won’t be re-reading it just yet, I will definitely be re-reading all the books in this series some day soon.

The Girl with the Windup Heart
    Add_to_GR

THE GIRL WITH THE WINDUP HEART by Kady Cross will be released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 400 pages.

THE GIRL WITH THE WINDUP HEART is the fourth full-length novel in Author Kady Cross’ Steampunk Chronicles.

I had the opportunity to read THE GIRL WITH THE WINDUP HEART early but I just couldn’t bring myself to (possibly) say goodbye. As much as I want to know what’s going to happen with Finley, Griffin, Jack, Emily, Sam, Jasper and even The Machinist, I am just not ready for these characters’ stories to end.

The finished version will be downloading to my Kindle this week and I am planning on buying a print copy for my collection. But it may take a few more weeks for me to be ready to part with this series.

I am excited about learning more about Mila who we briefly got the chance to meet in the previous book. I’m not sure whether I’ll like her, given that Jack seems to have taken a fancy to her. But if this is really the series-ending book, I hope he gets a happily ever after. I just kind of still wish for it to be with Finley.

I know I won’t be reading it this week, but I hope to read it in June. I really don’t want to risk having this ending spoiled for me. So I might just have to be brave. We shall see.

    Description…

In 1897 London, a final showdown is about to begin.

London’s underworld is no place for a young woman, even one who is strong, smart and part-automaton like Mila. But when master criminal Jack Dandy inadvertently breaks her heart, she takes off, determined to find an independent life, one entirely her own. Her search takes her to the spangled shadows of the West End’s most dazzling circus.

Meanwhile, taken captive in the Aether, Griffin King is trapped in an inescapable prison, and at the mercy of his archenemy, The Machinist. If he breaks under the hellish torment, The Machinist will claim his powers and control of the Aether itself, and no one in either world will be safe-especially not Finley Jayne and her misfit band of friends.

Finley plunges headlong into the Aether the only way she knows how, by temporarily dying. But she cannot parry The Machinist’s maneuvers for long. To defeat him for good, Griffin will have to confront his greatest fear and finally come face-to-face with the destructive power he wields.

    The Dark World Cover
    Add_to_GR

THE DARK WORLD by Cara Lynn Shultz will be released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 384 pages.

THE DARK WORLD is the first book in Cara Lynn Shultz’s series of the same name.

I love Cara Lynn Shultz’s writing and can’t wait for THE DARK WORLD to download to my Kindle on Tuesday. When I first heard that the author was writing a new series and that it involved demons and demon slayers, I immediately pre-ordered a copy.

The description, which is somewhat vague, totally piqued my curiosity. But it revealed enough to make this read a must. Magic and warlocks and demons and a Dark World sound so totally awesome.

It sounds like such a “me” book. And I can’t wait to dive in. So I hope I can manage to sneak it in next week. If not, it will definitely be the week thereafter.

    Description…

Paige Kelly is used to weird–in fact, she probably corners the market on weird, considering that her best friend, Dottie, has been dead since the 1950s. But when a fire demon attacks Paige in detention, she has to admit that things have gotten out of her league. Luckily, the cute new boy in school, Logan Bradley, is a practiced demon slayer-and he isn’t fazed by Paige’s propensity to chat with the dead. Suddenly, Paige is smack in the middle of a centuries-old battle between warlocks and demons, learning to fight with a magic sword so that she can defend herself. And if she makes one wrong move, she’ll be pulled into the Dark World, an alternate version of our world that’s overrun by demons-and she might never make it home.

    Guardian
    Add_to_GR

GUARDIAN by Alex London will be released in the U.S. on May 29, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Philomel, the print edition is 352 pages.

GUARDIAN is the second book in Alex London’s Proxy series.

I can’t believe that GUARDIAN, the sequel to PROXY, releases this week. I had every intention of reading the first book just before its release so that I could read both books back to back when this book downloads to my Kindle on Monday Midnight.

I definitely have some catching up to do.

As I don’t want to risk spoilers by reading the description, I don’t know what happened with Knox and Syd. I don’t know what happens during their flight across the country. I haven’t met the rebels.

But I can’t wait to do so, especially now that this sequel is out. And I hope to be able to read both books in a couple of weeks.

    Description…

The pulse-pounding sequel to Proxy! Inspired by The Whipping Boy and Feed, this adrenaline-fueled thriller will appeal to fans of The Hunger Games and Divergent.

In the new world led by the Rebooters, former Proxy Syd is the figurehead of the Revolution, beloved by some and hated by others. Liam, a seventeen-year-old Rebooter, is Syd’s bodyguard and must protect him with his life. But armed Machinists aren’t the only danger.

People are falling ill—their veins show through their skin, they find it hard to speak, and sores erupt all over their bodies. Guardians, the violent enforcers of the old system, are hit first, and the government does nothing to help. The old elites fall next, and in the face of an indifferent government, Syd decides it’s up to him to find a cure . . . and what he discovers leaves him stunned.

This heart-stopping thriller is packed with action, adventure, and heroics. Guardian will leave you breathless until the final page.

A fast-paced, thrill-ride of novel full of non-stop action, heart-hammering suspense and true friendship—just as moving as it is exhilarating. Fans of Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider series, James Dashner’s Maze Runner, Patrick Ness’s Chaos Walking series, and Marie Lu’s Legend trilogy will be swept away by this story.

    The Lost
    Add_to_GR

THE LOST by Sarah Beth Durst will be released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin MIRA, the print edition is

THE LOST is the first book in Sarah Beth Durst’s series of the same name. The second and third books in the series, releasing in 2014 and 2015, are entitled THE MISSING and THE FOUND.

I am so excited about this new series by Author Sarah Beth Durst. I love her writing and can’t wait to read THE LOST when it downloads to my Kindle on Tuesday.

While this isn’t a YA series, it sounds every bit as fascinating and thrilling as the books she’s written for the genre. I can’t wait to find out more about this town called Lost. I can’t wait to see whether Lauren is able to escape.

The setting sounds amazing and I love stories that involve fate. And if all goes as planned, I’ll be able to get this on the pile next week.

    Description…

    Brilliantly riveting. * Thought-provoking and stirring. *

Award-winning author Sarah Beth Durst has been praised for her captivating novels that merge the darkly imagined with very real themes of self-discovery and destiny. In The Lost, we’ll discover just what it means to lose one’s way….

It was only meant to be a brief detour. But then Lauren finds herself trapped in a town called Lost on the edge of a desert, filled with things abandoned, broken and thrown away. And when she tries to escape, impassible dust storms and something unexplainable lead her back to Lost again and again. The residents she meets there tell her she’s going to have to figure out just what she’s missing—and what she’s running from—before she can leave. So now Lauren’s on a new search for a purpose and a destiny. And maybe, just maybe, she’ll be found….

Against the backdrop of this desolate and mystical town, Sarah Beth Durst writes an arresting, fantastical novel of one woman’s impossible journey…and her quest to find her fate.

    Meridian
    Add_to_GR

MERIDIAN by Josin L. McQuein will be released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Greenwillow Books, the print edition is 464 pages.

MERIDIAN is the second book in Josin McQuein’s Arclight series.

I was told that I must read the first book in the series, so I added it to my collection and pre-ordered MERIDIAN. Now that both books are out I will definitely be reading them back-to-back.

I haven’t yet met Marina, Tobin or Anne-Marie, so I don’t know whether they all survive an encounter with the Fade. And while it seems that Marina might have, I don’t know what she has become.

I refuse to peek at the description for this book, though I am super curious. I’ll just have to wait until I can get both books on the pile to find out. I’ll just have to be patient.

As things are a little crazy IRL and with required reads for the blog, I will have to wait just a bit before I can try to get this on the pile. But I hope to be able to do so before the end of June.

    Description…

Marina thought that she had solved all of the Arclight’s mysteries. She had found her own history—that she was one of the Fade, that she never should have been human. She knows that the Fade who surround the Arclight don’t want to be the humans’ enemies at all. She knows that the leader of those inside the Arc, Honoria Whit, never told the whole truth. But there is so much more that Marina is just discovering. There are more survivors out there. Only Marina—and her friends, all of whom have connections to the Fade they’d never known about—can lead her people to them. But there are also darker dangers, things that even the Fade fear. And Marina slowly realizes she may never have been “cured,” after all.

The sequel to Arclight, Meridian is an intense, action-packed page-turner about the lines we draw between right and wrong, light and dark . . . and the way nothing is ever that black and white.

    Divided
    Add_to_GR

DIVIDED by Elsie Chapman will be released in the U.S. on May 27, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Random House Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

DIVIDED is the second book in Elsie Chapman’s Dualed series.

I have had DIVIDED pre-ordered since the moment I noticed it was available to order it for the Kindle. While I haven’t yet read DUALED, it was one of my most anticipated releases. So of course I had to order the sequel.

And while I received an invite for an eARC of DIVIDED, I wasn’t able to get both books on the pile prior to DIVIDED’s release. But this is another series where I definitely plan on reading both books back-to-back, and I hope to do so mid-June.

I can’t wait to discover this world, meet West and find out whether she’s met her Alt. I can’t wait to learn what misstep caused her to lose confidence. And I can’t wait to find out why not only her Alt, but love, can destroy her.

    Description…

The hunter becomes the hunted. . . .

West Grayer is done killing. She defeated her Alternate, a twin raised by another family, and proved she’s worthy of a future. She’s ready to move on with her life.

The Board has other plans. They want her to kill one last time, and offer her a deal worth killing for. But when West recognizes her target as a ghost from her past, she realizes she’s in over her head. The Board is lying, and West will have to uncover the truth of the past to secure her future.

How far will the Board go to keep their secrets safe? And how far will West go to save those she loves? With nonstop action and surprising twists, Elsie Chapman’s intoxicating sequel to Dualed reveals everything.

    Description:

Lisa McMann’s Dead to You meets Kate Ellison’s The Butterfly Clues in a psychological thriller full of romance, intrigue, and mystery.

One year ago, Callie was found in an abandoned apartment, scrawling words on the wall: “I KILLED HIM. His blood is on my hands. His heart is in my soul. I KILLED HIM.” But she remembers nothing of that night or of the previous thirty-six hours. All she knows is that her father, the reverend at the Church of the Holy Promise, is missing, as is Hannah, a young girl from the parish. Their disappearances have to be connected and Callie knows that her father was not a righteous man.

Since that fateful night, she’s been plagued by graphomania — an unending and debilitating compulsion to write. The words that flow from Callie’s mind and through her pen don’t seem to make sense — until now.

As the anniversary of Hannah’s vanishing approaches, more words and memories bubble to the surface and a new guy in school might be the key to Callie putting together the puzzle. But digging up the secrets she’s buried for so long might be her biggest mistake.

It is another insane week for releases and it seems that I have eight books and two novellas pre-ordered. Only one of which I’ve read pre-release. Plus there are a couple of other books of note that I really want to add to my collection, which means even more dollars and an even bigger TBR Pile.

And with a ton of releases coming out through early June, I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to read them all. Ack!

Anyway… as this post is long enough already, and it is a holiday weekend and a gorgeous day outside, I’ll stop rambling. But I hope that one or two of your long anticipated reads is releasing this week and that you’ll get the chance to add them to your collection.

And I hope that if one of those books is a series-ending book, it won’t be too tough to say goodbye.

Happy release week and happy reading week!

    DotsDiv2

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    My Reading Pile #164

    myreadingpile

I got three totally awesome books in the mail this week. One I’ve been pining for since I first heard about it, one I hadn’t heard of but am totally excited to check out, and one whose description totally sold me on it.

I received an ARC of MORTAL DANGER (Immortal Game #1) by Ann Aguirre courtesy of the publisher, Feiwel & Friends. It was one of the books I’d selected to receive after reading the description and falling in love. I have some time off in just over a week, and this will definitely be devoured then.

I received a surprise ARC of END TIMES by Anna Schumacher thanks to the publisher, Razorbill. I hadn’t heard of this book before it showed up this week but having read the description and the promotional insert about it, I can’t wait to check it out. It releases this month, and I hope to be able to sneak this onto the pile in the next couple of weeks.

I received a review copy of THE ART OF FLOATING by Kristin Bair O’Keefe from the author’s publicist and I can’t wait to read it. It’s contemporary fiction, not my usual genre, but is a story that grabbed me from the moment I read the description, one that really speaks to me right now. And I will be adding this to the top of the pile next week.

In addition to the three printed review books/ARCs I received, I also received (and grabbed) a few eARCs from NetGalley and Edelweiss. And they are…

TAKE ME ON (Pushing the Limits #4) by Katie McGarry

I received a copy of TAKE ME ON for review for the blog tour I’ll be on hosted by Kismet Book Touring. While I don’t have a review stop, there’s no way I won’t be reading this. In fact, it’s the first book on the pile this week.

BLACKBIRD (Blackbird Duology #1) by Anna Carey

THE INVISIBLE (Brokenhearted #2) by Amelia Kahaney

I have been anxiously awaiting the release of BLACKBIRD and I was so excited to see it on Edelweiss this week that I just had to grab a copy. There’s no way I’ll be waiting until closer to September to read this book. If all goes as planned I will be reading this next week. And I can’t wait to continue Author Amelia Kahaney’s Brokenhearted series. I loved the first book and can’t wait to see what happens in THE INVISIBLE.

SNOW LIKE ASHES (Snow Like Ashes #1) by Sara Raasch

EXQUISITE CAPTIVE (Dark Caravan Cycle #1) by Heather Demetrios

The first three sentences sold me on SNOW LIKE ASHES. I don’t think I actually read any further before this book became a “must read” for me. And as I want to keep it a surprise I don’t plan on looking at the description in full until after I’ve read it. Which will (hopefully) be later this month. I also grabbed a copy of EXQUISITE CAPTIVE which I knew would be available for review in eARC form. After receiving (and sharing) the details of the author’s new series I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to get a copy to take a peek at.

DIVIDED (Dualed #2) by Elsie Chapman

I received the invitation to grab DIVIDED for review and couldn’t resist. DUALED was one of those books I was desperately excited for prior to its release, and while I haven’t yet had the chance to dive into this series, I am even more excited about the prospect of reading the two books back-to-back.

    Courtesy of Entangled’s Brazen

    Tempting the Bodyguard

I received an eARC of TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD (Gamble Brothers #3) by J. Lynn as I’ll be on the book’s tour later this month. I am such a huge fan of the author’s that I might have held my breath and crossed my fingers hoping I’d be picked. I was kind of surprised that I was. But so excited.

I’d not yet read the other two books in this series, though I knew I could read this book on its own. And planned on doing just that this week. It was actually in this post as the “next up on the pile” book. But I may have picked it up on Friday morning, read half of it before work, part of it during my lunch break, and finished it before the sun set. So… yeah… I loved it. Now I want to read all the other books.

And now I’ve had to select another book and change this week’s post. So…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

    Take Me On

    AddtoGoodreads

First up on the pile is TAKE ME ON by Katie McGarry. I received an eARC this week – thanks to Kismet Book Touring and the publisher Harlequin Teen – as I’ll be on the tour this June. While I don’t have to read it for the tour, of course I planned on reading it. And because I just can’t wait until closer to then, it will be my first read this week.

I love, love, love this series and every single one of the characters I’ve met. I adored West in CRASH INTO YOU and couldn’t wait to read his story. And I can’t wait to meet Haley and find out how she and West met, find out what happened to end her future in kickboxing, and find out when they realize they’re in love.

If I hadn’t had to study this past week I totally would have already read it. But now that I’m done with all of that, I can’t wait to get it on the pile on Sunday.

    The Description…

    The One

    AddtoGoodreads

Next up on the pile is THE ONE by Kiera Cass. While I don’t have an early copy, it is releasing this week and I cannot wait to get it on the pile on Tuesday. I only just read the first two books in this series this past year, but I absolutely loved both books and am dying to find out how everything ends.

I have heard whispers about how things might end. But I haven’t listened too closely as I want to find out for myself. I’m still not sure who I’m rooting for. I adore Prince Maxon, I’m just not sure America is the right one for him. Though I think the two of them would be great together as leaders.

The description promises a “satisfying and unforgettable conclusion” and I am desperately hoping that’s true. But I will definitely find out when my copy downloads on Monday Midnight as I will be starting it the instant it does.

    The Description…

The Selection changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. And now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen.

America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon’s heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she’ll have to fight for the future she wants.

From the very first page of The Selection, this #1 New York Times bestselling series has captured readers’ hearts and swept them away on a captivating journey… Now, in The One, Kiera Cass delivers a satisfying and unforgettable conclusion that will keep readers sighing over this electrifying fairy-tale long after the final page is turned.

    Wishful Thinking Reads

My wishful thinking read this week – thanks Jaime! – is SHADOW KISS by Richelle Mead. I’d started a series re-read a couple of years ago and left off mid-read. And I really, really want to pick up where I left off. Especially as this is one of my most favorite of the series books. But as I have so many review books that I really must tackle, I just can’t take the time to do any sort of re-reading right now. So for the near future, reading this will just have to remain a wish.

    divider1

    Those Left Behind

I had an awful reading week last week. While I finished DAYS OF BLOOD & STARLIGHT, I did not get started on DREAMS OF GODS & MONSTERS. I just couldn’t bring myself to say goodbye to the series. I needed time to process everything that went down in book two. But I’m hoping I’ll be able to get the courage up later this week.

And while I did read the book I needed to read for my sailing course exam, it meant I didn’t get the chance to finish BREAKABLE. Though I will be done later today. I am madly in love with this sequel.

But I wasn’t a total fail. I did end up reading TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD on Friday. I just happened to have my Kindle at my bedside and ended up reading so much of it before work that I just couldn’t set it aside for later. And so I ended up reading it in its entirety.

While I had wanted to finish THE TAKING and read MY LAST KISS, it just wasn’t possible. I was barely able to blog this week, as I was totally worn out and completely brain dead between working and studying.

But as things should be a little bit less hectic this week, I’m hopeful of keeping on track with this week’s reads and catching up on one or two of the past couple of week’s reads. And maybe a review or two.

    divider1

    NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds

I didn’t really investigate the new adds on NetGalley this week. Though, if Goodreads is up and running, I’ll be able to check out a couple of them and maybe request one or two of them this weekend.

I just didn’t have the time or energy and I was totally riddled with guilt about how many books I grabbed from Edelweiss. But just from their titles a few of the new finds have piqued my curiosity. So we shall see.

    Here are this week’s finds…

JUST LIKE THE MOVIES by Kelly Fiore (Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books, Jul 22 2014)

I’LL GIVE YOU THE SUN by Jandy Nelson (Penguin Young Readers Group, Sep 16 2014)

ONE PAST MIDNIGHT by Jessica Shirvington (Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books, Jul 22 2014)

WICKEDPEDIA by Chris Van Etten (Scholastic Inc., Jun 24 2014)

SKINK-NO SURRENDER by Carl Hiaasen (Random House Children’s, Sep 23 2014)

BELZHAR by Meg Wolitzer (Penguin Young Readers Group, Sep 30 2014)

FOLLOWERS by Anna Davies (Scholastic Inc., Jun 24 2014)

OF SCARS AND STARDUST by Andrea Hannah (Flux, Oct 8 2014)

SWEET UNREST by Lisa Maxwell (Flux, Oct 8 2014)

    divider1

I did end up studying for my exam. Sort of. While I did run out of time, at least I was able to read the book, take half a notebook worth of notes and retain some of what I’d read.

But what slowed me down and kept me from racing through the book and reviewing my notes was the fact that the information I was learning totally stressed me out. The idea that if I were to charter my own boat for more than a day sail I’d have to know all sorts of things about the boat – its engine, water delivery system, fuel, etc. – how to anchor without any help from an experienced crew, and how to appropriately navigate to an unfamiliar cove, terrified me.

Which sent my brain into overload, thinking about some date in the future when I’d have to know this stuff cold. And which was so not helpful in terms of learning, studying, retaining for the test.

Fortunately I’m now officially done with my studies for awhile. The next class that’s on offer is one I won’t be eligible to take until the fall (at least). While I will have the requisite certifications and days on the water, I need those extra months to practice, practice, practice and get comfortable with all I’ve learned. Because the next class involves learning to sail at night, being on the move 24 hours of the day, with no nice cove to moor and chillax in.

But I cannot wait. I am so excited.

For now, though, I’ll just be sailing on Saturdays, taking the occasional on-the-water seminar, and perhaps spending a little more time reading these books that I love.

Anyway… sorry about that totally long non-bookish ramble.

I am totally stoked about all ten of the books I received this week. I can’t wait to tackle one of them this week, and am stoked I already devoured another. And if all goes well I just might have to sneak MORTAL DANGER onto the pile because… wow… that book sounds amazing.

I wish you the happiest of reading weeks this week. I hope that you got a few awesome books in your mail – or email – box this past week. And if you’d like to share what books you received and are planning on reading, I’d love to know!

    Dorothy Must Die

    AddtoGoodreads

DOROTHY MUST DIE by Danielle Paige releases in the U.S. today, April 1, 2014, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 464 pages.

DOROTHY MUST DIE is the first book in a new series of the same name by Author Danielle Paige. The second and third books in the series are currently untitled. But a prequel novella, NO PLACE LIKE OZ, was released on November 12, 2013.

    divider2

I heard that DORTHY MUST DIE was amazing and that I had to pre-order it. So I did. And then I checked out the description and I kind of have to agree that it does sound awesome.

I love the idea that Oz is a bit twisted compared to the Oz we’ve come to know and love. I love that the good guys are the bad guys and vice versa… Maybe. I love that Dorothy is a power hungry B.

And I love that the main character, Amy Gumm, must unravel everything that Dorothy helped build and then try and take Dorothy out.

While things are a bit crazy with my schedule over the next few weeks, if I can find some time to sneak this onto the pile I am definitely going to.

    Description…

I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero.

But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still the yellow brick road, though—but even that’s crumbling.

    What happened?

Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I’m the other girl from Kansas.
I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
    I’ve been trained to fight.
    And I have a mission:
    Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart.
    Steal the Scarecrow’s brain.
    Take the Lion’s courage.
Then and only then—Dorothy must die!

THE RING & THE CROWN by Melissa de la Cruz releases in the U.S. today, April 1, 2014, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Disney-Hyperion, the print edition is 384 pages.

THE RING & THE CROWN is the first book in a new series of the same name by Melissa de la Cruz.

    divider2

I am so excited that THE RING & THE CROWN is releasing today and that everyone will get the chance to read this first book in the series. I got the chance to read an eARC and I fell madly in love with this book.

I did not realize when I started reading that there would be multiple POVs. But I loved getting the inside scoop on Marie, Aelwyn, Ronan, Wolf and even Isabelle.

And I loved the alternate version of history the author created in her book where magic trumps technology.

As I just finished reading this a few days ago, I won’t be re-reading it right away. But I’m so excited to have the finished copy on my Kindle and I’m hoping to pick up a print copy as the cover is so amazing.

    Description…

Princess Marie-Victoria, heir to the Lily Throne, and Aelwyn Myrddn, bastard daughter of the Mage of England, grew up together. But who will rule, and who will serve?

Quiet and gentle, Marie has never lived up to the ambitions of her mother, Queen Eleanor the Second, Supreme Ruler of the Franco-British Empire. With the help of her Head Merlin, Emrys, Eleanor has maintained her stranglehold on the world’s only source of magic. She rules the most powerful empire the world has ever seen.

But even with the aid of Emrys’ magic, Eleanor’s extended lifespan is nearing its end. The princess must marry and produce an heir or the Empire will be vulnerable to its greatest enemy, Prussia. The two kingdoms must unite to end the war, and the only solution is a match between Marie and Prince Leopold VII, heir to the Prussian throne. But Marie has always loved Gill, her childhood friend and soldier of the Queen’s Guard.

Together, Marie and Aelwyn, a powerful magician in her own right, come up with a plan. Aelwyn will take on Marie’s face, allowing the princess to escape with Gill and live the quiet life she’s always wanted. And Aelwyn will get what she’s always dreamed of–the chance to rule. But the court intrigue and hunger for power in Lenoran England run deeper than anyone could imagine. In the end, there is only rule that matters in Eleanor’s court: trust no one.

FORETOLD by Rinda Elliott releases in the U.S. today, April 1, 2014, in eBook format. It is currently available to order online at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the story is 167 pages.

FORETOLD is the first book in a new series by Author Rinda Elliott entitled Sisters of Fate. The second book in the trilogy, FORECAST, is slated for release on August 4, 2014 and the third book in the series is entitled FORESWORN.

    divider2

I am totally stoked that FORETOLD releases today because it means that the second book in the trilogy is that much closer to being available. I got the chance to read FORETOLD just a little bit early, but as I now have the finished copy residing on my Kindle, I definitely plan on re-reading this soon.

I would love to talk about the characters, the mythology and where things left off, but as I already rambled about FORETOLD in my Book Watch post the other week and I plan on posting my review later today, I am just going to say that this book is a definite must.

And I will just add that I am so curious which characters I’ll end up loving the most by the time this series has ended.

    Description…

It is written that three Sisters of Fate have the power to change the world’s destiny. But only if they survive…

The Lockwood triplets have had the prophecy drummed into their heads since birth. Still, Raven, the eldest of the sisters, can’t believe it’s really happening. She’s the reincarnation of a Norse goddess? One of the sisters is destined to die? When it starts snowing in summer in Florida, the sisters fear the worst has come to pass. Ragnarok, the Norse end of the world, has begun.

Raven finds herself the secret protector of Vanir, a boy with two wolves, a knowledge of Norse magic and a sense of destiny he can’t quite explain. He’s intense, sexy and equally determined to save her when it becomes clear someone is endangering them. Raven doesn’t know if getting closer to him will make a difference in the coming battle, but her heart isn’t giving her a choice.

Ahead of the sisters is the possibility of death at the hand of a warrior, death by snow, death by water or death by fire. Or even from something else…

    Sisters of Fate

The prophecy doesn’t lie: one is doomed to die.

SALVAGE by Alexandra Duncan releases in the U.S. today, April 1, 2014, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Greenwillow Books, the print edition is 528 pages.

    divider2

I am thrilled that SALVAGE releases today and that everyone will have the opportunity to discover this engaging and fascinating book. While sci-fi isn’t typically a “go to” genre of mine, after being lured in by the cover and reading the description, I just had to pre-order it for my Kindle.

I love that this book has a message and that its main character has difficult choices to make. Her situation is not an easy one so neither are the decisions she’s faced with.

While this might not have been the type of read I normally gravitate toward, I found myself drawn in by the author’s writing and by this world that’s quite different from any I’ve read about in recent years.

And while I have the Kindle copy happily living on my eReader, I am just so curious to see whether the cover on the physical book looks even more awesome than the digital version… and whether I’ll end up with both formats in my collection.

    Description…

Salvage is a thrilling, surprising, and thought-provoking debut novel that will appeal to fans of Across the Universe, by Beth Revis, and The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood. This is literary science fiction with a feminist twist, and it explores themes of choice, agency, rebellion, and family.

Ava, a teenage girl living aboard the male-dominated, conservative deep space merchant ship Parastrata, faces betrayal, banishment, and death. Taking her fate into her own hands, she flees to the Gyre, a floating continent of garbage and scrap in the Pacific Ocean. This is a sweeping and harrowing novel about a girl who can’t read or write or even withstand the forces of gravity. What choices will she make? How will she build a future on an earth ravaged by climate change? Named by the American Booksellers Association as a Spring 2014 Indies Introduce Pick.

ILLUSION by Sherrilyn Kenyon releases in the U.S. today, April 1, 2014, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 464 pages.

ILLUSION is the fifth book in Author Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Chronicles of Nick series. The sixth book in the series, DEFIANT, is slated for release on April 7, 2015.

    divider2

I am seriously behind on the Chronicles of Nick series but I just keep acquiring each of the new releases. And I am thrilled to no end that ILLUSION, the fifth book in the series, is now a part of my permanent eBook collection.

I have no idea what’s been going on with Nick as of late, though I did take a peek at the description. And it sounds like things have not been at all easy. Which explains why he just wants to be normal.

I am super curious about the concept of an alternate reality and whether it will fit in with the series or feel like a bizarre detour. But as I am so far behind – I’ve only read the first two books in the series – I won’t get any answers anytime soon. Though I am hopeful of catching up at some point this summer.

    Description…

Be careful what you wish for…

    You just might get it.

Nick Gautier is tired of his destiny. He doesn’t want to be the son of a demon who’s fated to end the world. Nor does he want to see another demon or other preternatural creature who wants to kill or enslave him. He just wants to be normal and have normal problems like everyone else.

But normality isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. When he gets sucked into an alternate reality where his mother has married his mentor and his Atlantean god best friend has become a human geek, he begins to understand that no life is free of pain, and that every person has a specific place in the universe… Even the son of a hated demon.

Most of all, he sees that his powers aren’t the curse he thought they were, and that the world needs a champion, especially one its enemies can’t imagine rising up to defend the ones he should destroy.

Old enemies and new friends square off for a major battle that will either restore Nick to his real world, or end him forever.

I can’t believe that LOVE LETTERS TO THE DEAD released today, that the finished copy has downloaded to my Kindle, and that I haven’t yet read it. I received an ARC of this amazing-sounding book and I’ve been wanting to read it ever since I received it.

But, as of today, I still haven’t had the opportunity to do so. And it’s killing me.

I love the idea of this book, writing love letters to the dead. I love that Laurel uses her assignment to write about all sorts of things that are important to her life. The exercise is sort of like a forced journal.

This story sounds sad and sweet and seems to be about understanding and overcoming loss. So even though I didn’t get to read it early, and I’m seriously bummed out that I didn’t, I am super excited for the chance to read the finished version on my Kindle some time this month.

    Description…

It begins as an assignment for English class: Write a letter to a dead person.

Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain because her sister, May, loved him. And he died young, just like May did. Soon, Laurel has a notebook full of letters to people like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Amelia Earhart, Heath Ledger, and more; though she never gives a single one of them to her teacher. She writes about starting high school, navigating new friendships, falling in love for the first time, learning to live with her splintering family. And, finally, about the abuse she suffered while May was supposed to be looking out for her.

Only then, once Laurel has written down the truth about what happened to herself, can she truly begin to accept what happened to May. And only when Laurel has begun to see her sister as the person she was; lovely and amazing and deeply flawed; can she begin to discover her own path.

I can’t remember exactly where I first heard about TIME AFTER TIME. Whether it was on NetGalley, or whether someone had buzzed it. But I have had TIME AFTER TIME pre-ordered since early last month. So I must have heard about it recently.

I love the idea of dreams of past lives. I am curious about why Abbie’s dream of a past life as Penelope Broadhurst bleeds into her present in ways that are “sinister and familiar.” I’m even more curious to meet Heath Lockwood and Marcus and Rem Knight.

I am also super curious about just what ancient love story has a puzzle that must be solved. So I really hope that I can add TIME AFTER TIME to the pile very soon.

    Description…

She has died countless times before, and she is not going to let it happen again.

Abbie Harper dies just before her eighteenth birthday. It has happened before, more times than she can remember — and always at the hands of the same man. Her dreams are plagued with past lives, cut short.

But this latest dream feels different. Her past life as Penelope Broadhurst — an English pastor’s daughter in 1806 — keeps bleeding into her present life in ways both sinister and familiar. As Penelope meets and falls in love with the dashing Heath Lockwood, so too does Abbie meet the brothers Marcus and Rem Knight. One wants to love her; the other to kill her.

Time is running out for Penelope, but as Abbie mourns her inability to change the past, she chases the slim chance to save her future. To survive, she must solve the puzzle of an ancient love story…and Penelope just might be able to help.

THIS SIDE OF SALVATION by Jeri Smith-Ready releases in the U.S. today, April 1, 2014, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 384 pages.

I have been very curious about THIS SIDE OF SALVATION since the moment I first read the description. So of course I had to pre-order a copy for my Kindle. And I can’t wait to read it.

I am curious to see just how big of a part religion plays in this story. I’m curious as to why Bailey makes David feel “better, brighter, happier.” And I’m curious why David needs salvation.

I don’t typically enjoy books with too heavy a religious focus that aren’t books specifically about religion. So I am eager to find out just what kind of a balance is struck in this story. And I hope to be able to do so in the next month.

    Description…

Everyone mourns differently. When his older brother was killed, David got angry. As in, fist-meets-someone-else’s-face furious. But his parents? They got religious. David’s still figuring out his relationship with a higher power, but there’s one thing he does know for sure: The closer he gets to new-girl Bailey, the better, brighter, happier, more he feels.

Then his parents start cutting all their worldly ties in to prepare for the Rush, the divine moment when the faithful will be whisked off to Heaven…and they want David to do the same. David’s torn. There’s a big difference between living in the moment and giving up his best friend, varsity baseball, and Bailey—especially Bailey—in hope of salvation.

But when he comes home late from prom, and late for the Rush, to find that his parents have vanished, David is in more trouble than he ever could have imagined…

I knew things were going to start getting crazy this week. And I’m pretty sure next week is even worse, but I accidentally deleted the list of releases from my calendar for the next two weeks – eek! – so I can’t be entirely sure.

And by “worse” I mean awesome. Maybe not so much for my TBR pile, but there are a ton of amazing books releasing over the next few weeks.

So I have eight books and three novellas pre-ordered this week that have already downloaded to my Kindle. And I just know I’ll be buying DEAR KILLER and SEKRET as soon as they switch status to order from pre-order. Plus COLD CALLS sounds really good, so I might just have to check that one out, too. *SIGH.* Too many books, so very little time to read them.

As I did end up wiping out a chunk of the list of releases on my calendar, I’m kind of worried about just how many books I’m missing that are releasing this week. But I suppose I’ll find out in just a few short hours and then I’ll have to scramble to update this post.

I’ve heard DOROTHY MUST DIE is amazing and I can’t wait to get the chance to read it. It’s one of the books I’m most looking forward to this week that I haven’t already read. And I really hope to – one of these days – catch up on The Chronicles of Nick before I end up a gazillion books behind.

Anyway… I hope that you have a few new books for your collection this week and if you have a book releasing this week, then… Happy Book Birthday!

    divider1

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
