Book Watch: Releasing This Week #183

    BWRTWIcy

Below are the (mostly) YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of July 1st-July 7th that I have pre-ordered.

    Sinner

    AddtoGRicy

SINNER by Maggie Stiefvater will be released in the U.S. on July 1, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Scholastic Press, the print edition is 368 pages.

SINNER is standalone companion novel to Maggie Stiefvater’s Shiver Trilogy.

I cannot wait for SINNER to be released and for my copy to download to my Kindle. I LOVED this series by the author and one of my most favorite characters was Cole St. Clair.

I am so excited to see what’s been happening with him. I was so sure, when reading the final book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy, that his story had come to an end. Especially with the way things seemed to be going. Of course they didn’t. Thankfully. But I’m even more excited that his story is continuing.

I can’t wait to find out why he’s in danger. I can’t wait to see what happens with Isabel. Heck… I can’t wait to read this and spend just a few more hours with Cole, in this world, which I have loved for such a long time. And I don’t think it can be avoided. I think I’m going to have to sneak this one on the pile this week.

    Description…

A standalone companion book to the internationally bestselling Shiver Trilogy.

Sinner follows Cole St. Clair, a pivotal character from the #1 New York Times bestselling Shiver Trilogy. Everybody thinks they know Cole’s story. Stardom. Addiction. Downfall. Disappearance. But only a few people know Cole’s darkest secret — his ability to shift into a wolf. One of these people is Isabel. At one point, they may have even loved each other. But that feels like a lifetime ago. Now Cole is back. Back in the spotlight. Back in the danger zone. Back in Isabel’s life. Can this sinner be saved?

    On the Fence

    AddtoGRicy

ON THE FENCE by Kasie West will be released in the U.S. on July 1, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 304 pages.

I am super excited for the release of ON THE FENCE by Kasie West. I got the chance to read this early and I took full advantage of that opportunity. Of course it’s now been ages since I read it, but I remember it and I remember falling in love with this story. It was sweet and romantic and I adored Charlie and Braden.

I loved their late night chats by the fence. I loved how she started to fall in love with him. I loved how… okay, so I’m not going to keep talking about what I loved because I will likely reveal what secrets were shared and what happened in the end. But I just have to add that it was an engaging and heartwarming story.

And while I may not be reading it again this week, I’m so thrilled to be able to finally get the finished copy for my collection because I definitely will be reading it again some day soon. Kasie West is an amazing writer, I’ve loved everything she’s written, and I can’t wait for everyone to get the chance to read this book and see just how awesome it is.

    Description…

    She’s a tomboy. He’s the boy next door…

Charlie Reynolds can outrun, outscore, and outwit every boy she knows. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn’t know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at a chichi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world. To cope with the stress of her new reality, Charlie takes to spending nights chatting with her neighbor Braden through the fence between their yards. As she grows to depend on their nightly Fence Chats, she realizes she’s got a bigger problem than speeding tickets-she’s falling for Braden. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.

Fun, original, and endearing, On the Fence is a romantic comedy about finding yourself and finding love where you least expect.

    Parting words…

Next week is insane. There are a million books releasing on July 8th. So I’m so glad that there aren’t too many books coming out this week that are on my radar. Though it’s always possible I missed a few, like I did last week.

I only have two books – and two eBook novellas – pre-ordered that I know of. But there could be one or two more. And I will be adding THE VANISHING SEASON by Jodi Lynn Anderson to the collection as it sounds so awesome, and most likely Rachel Carter’s FIND ME WHERE THE WATER ENDS, as I own the first two books in that series.

There are a few others that look really good, but as I am trying to hold to a budget for the next couple of months, I’m going to wait as long as possible before I click to buy.

Anyway… I hope that I didn’t miss any new releases. I hope that if you are awaiting one of this week’s releases it will be in your bookish hands and you won’t have to wait much longer to dive in. I hope that the books you have on your radar are every bit as amazing as you hoped they’d be.

And if it is one of your books that is releasing this week, happy book birthday to you!

    DividerIcy

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

My Favorite Quote from… ON THE FENCE

    FAVORITE

As it’s going to be quite some time before I post a review for Kasie West’s ON THE FENCE, I thought I’d share a favorite quote for today’s “My Favorite Quote from…” post. Okay, I’m actually dying to share a quote from this amazing book.

And while there were all sorts of passages that tied me up in knots, one of which I plan to include with my review, there was one very specific quote that was just so perfect and gorgeous and awesome.

By way of introduction (a recap)…

The point of this feature is to share my favorite quote (or one of the many favorite quotes I have) from a recent read and share why it is a favorite, which will give me the chance to ramble just a bit about a book that I may not get the chance to review. And even if I opt to review a title, I still might create a “My Favorite Quote from…” post because, while most of my reviews do include a favorite quote it’s only just one of many and I don’t typically get to talk about the many reasons why it is a favorite.

    divider700

    My Favorite Quote

I thought about his question, wondered why I couldn’t talk about this during the day with him. “Because this is like a dream. It doesn’t have to be real. It almost feels like we’re floating just outside of consciousness and we can say whatever we want, and in the morning, like with dreams, it just slowly melts away. It’s like you’re up in your bed sleeping and I’m in mine and our subconscious minds are talking.” – Charlie Reynolds

Just typing it and reading it all over again makes me sigh. Isn’t it gorgeous? It so perfectly describes these moments between the characters. It paints this wonderful picture.

Some of my favorite scenes in this book were those when Charlie and Braden would have their late night talks on opposite sides of the fence. Sometimes they were sweet. Sometimes sad. Sometimes angst-filled. Sometimes heartbreaking. But all of them were so very memorable.

Which is another reason why I chose this quote as a favorite. Though there were a number of other quotes I loved, any one of which I could have chosen. Tear-your-heart-out quotes from Braden. Or grin-worthy quotes from him and Charlie’s brother Gage… specifically those that involve certain attributes or characteristics of boys Charlie should not date.

But I stand by my choice to go with the perfect quote.

    What about you?

If you’ve read ON THE FENCE, did you love this quote as much as I did? Or did you prefer the Braden quote, the one that made your heart break for Charlie?

I am so totally excited that in just a few hours my Kindle copy of SPLIT SECOND will download and I’ll be able to read it. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for its release and it is finally, finally, just about here.

As I have spotlighted it for my Book Watch post and I will likely be gushing about it anywhere and everywhere, I don’t want to ramble on for too long now.

But I will say again that this is my most anticipated read this week. I love, love, LOVED the first book in this series, and I am so very curious about how this sequel will end. I’m not sure whether I want the ending to be as killer as the last book’s ending. In some way I do, but in a completely other way i really don’t.

While I have another book I will be reading this week, I can’t resist moving this one immediately onto the pile and hopefully will have much of it read by Tuesday.

    Description…

Life can change in a split second.

Addie hardly recognizes her life since her parents divorced. Her boyfriend used her. Her best friend betrayed her. She can’t believe this is the future she chose. On top of that, her ability is acting up. She’s always been able to Search the future when presented with a choice. Now she can manipulate and slow down time, too . . . but not without a price.

When Addie’s dad invites her to spend her winter break with him, she jumps at the chance to escape into the Norm world of Dallas, Texas. There she meets the handsome and achingly familiar Trevor. He’s a virtual stranger to her, so why does her heart do a funny flip every time she sees him? But after witnessing secrets that were supposed to stay hidden, Trevor quickly seems more suspicious of Addie than interested in her. And she has an inexplicable desire to change that.

Meanwhile, her best friend, Laila, has a secret of her own: she can restore Addie’s memories . . . once she learns how. But there are powerful people who don’t want to see this happen. Desperate, Laila tries to manipulate Connor, a brooding bad boy from school—but he seems to be the only boy in the Compound immune to her charms. And the only one who can help her.

As Addie and Laila frantically attempt to retrieve the lost memories, Addie must piece together a world she thought she knew before she loses the love she nearly forgot . . . and a future that could change everything.

ALL THAT GLOWS by Ryan Graudin will be released in the U.S. on February 11, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 480 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I can’t believe I didn’t grab an early copy of ALL THAT GLOWS but I am stoked that my Kindle pre-order will be downloading soon. As I just rambled about this book’s release on my tour stop earlier today, I really don’t want to be too repetitive.

But I am really excited about discovering a story that I’m told is totally sweet and romantic. It will be the perfect Valentine’s Day read if I can sneak it onto the pile at the end of the week.

I love stories of magic, the Fae and princes. The fact that this particular prince is a “partying bad boy” makes me even more thrilled to meet him. And the fact that there is a touch of darkness in this story makes this a definite must read for me.

I hope to sneak this onto the pile at week’s end, but if I actually spend time studying like I should be doing, then I might not get this on the pile until next week.

    Description…

Emrys—a fiery, red-headed Fae—always embraced her life in the Highlands, far from the city’s draining technology, until she’s sent to London to rejoin the Faery Guard. But this isn’t any normal assignment—she’s sent to guard Prince Richard: Britain’s notorious, partying bad boy and soon-to-be King. The prince’s careless ways and royal blood make him the irresistible for the dark spirits that feed on mortals. Sweet, disheveled, and alive with adventure—Richard is one charge who will put Emrys’s magic and heart to the test.

When an ancient force begins preying on the monarchy, Emrys must hunt through the London’s magical underworld, facing down Banshees, Black Dogs and Green Women to find the one who threatens Richard’s life. In this chaos of dark magic, palace murders and paparazzi, Emrys finds herself facing an impossible choice. For despite all her powers, Emrys has discovered a force that burns brighter than magic: love.

    Three

THREE by Kristen Simmons will be released in the U.S. on February 11, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Tor Teen, the print edition is 384 pages.

THREE is the third book in Author Kristen Simmons’ Article 5 series.

    Dots_Divider

I’ve had THREE pre-ordered since last summer and I’m super excited that it will finally be added to my collection this week. While I am seriously behind on this series by Author Kristen Simmons, I just had to pre-order this newest installment.

But I don’t want to take a peek at the description to find out where this story picks up. I don’t want to know what’s been happening with Ember and Chase. I don’t want to know if this is the final book in the Article 5 series.

And I really don’t want to accidentally spoil something major. So, yes, I am squinting as I type this so I don’t inadvertently read what I’ve pasted just below.

As I am a bit behind on this series, I won’t be adding THREE to my reading pile in the next couple of weeks. But if things slow down just a bit I hope to get caught up some time in April.

    Description…

Ember Miller and Chase Jennings are ready to stop running. After weeks spent in hiding as two of the Bureau of Reformation’s most wanted criminals, they have finally arrived at the safe house, where they hope to live a safe and quiet existence.

And all that’s left is smoking ruins.

Devastated by the demolition of their last hope, Ember and Chase follow the only thing left to them—tracks leading away from the wreckage. The only sign that there may have been survivors.

With their high profile, they know they can’t stay out in the open for long. They take shelter in the wilderness and amidst the ruins of abandoned cities as they follow the tracks down the coast, eventually finding refugees from the destroyed safe house. Among them is someone from Chase’s past—someone he never thought he’d see again.

Banding together, they search for a place to hide, aiming for a settlement a few of them have heard about…a settlement that is rumored to house the nebulous organization known as Three. The very group that has provided Ember with a tiny ray of hope ever since she was first forced on the run.

Three is responsible for the huge network of underground safe houses and resistance groups across the country. And they may offer Ember her only chance at telling the world her story.

    At fighting back.

Published by EgmontUSA, the print edition is 560 pages.

WHITE SPACE is the first book in Author Ilsa J. Bick’s new Dark Passages series. The second book in the series, THE DICKENS MIRROR, is slated for release in 2015.

    Dots_Divider

Oh. My. Gosh. I have been waiting forever for WHITE SPACE to release. And I can’t believe it will be in my collection in a matter of hours. The description for this book is completely and totally epic and I can’t wait to discover its dark amazingness.

This sounds totally chilling, totally dark, totally creepy. I love, love, love Memento and Inception which this book’s description references. I was completely sold when I read the words “deadly and horrifying world exists in the space between the written lines” – how perfect is that!?!

And I am just dying to be able to finally get the chance to read this book.

As this is a fairly lengthy tome and I have got to spend some time studying this week and I just know I would end up staying up all night reading this story, I have got to wait until next week to dive in. But I really, really want to read it the instant it downloads. It sounds like a total mind… bender.

    Description…

In the tradition of Memento and Inception comes a thrilling and scary young adult novel about blurred reality where characters in a story find that a deadly and horrifying world exists in the space between the written lines.

Seventeen-year-old Emma Lindsay has problems: a head full of metal, no parents, a crazy artist for a guardian whom a stroke has turned into a vegetable, and all those times when she blinks away, dropping into other lives so ghostly and surreal it’s as if the story of her life bleeds into theirs. But one thing Emma has never doubted is that she’s real.

Then she writes “White Space,” a story about these kids stranded in a spooky house during a blizzard.

Unfortunately, “White Space” turns out to be a dead ringer for part of an unfinished novel by a long-dead writer. The manuscript, which she’s never seen, is a loopy Matrix meets Inkheart story in which characters fall out of different books and jump off the page. Thing is, when Emma blinks, she might be doing the same and, before long, she’s dropped into the very story she thought she’d written. Trapped in a weird, snow-choked valley, Emma meets other kids with dark secrets and strange abilities: Eric, Casey, Bode, Rima, and a very special little girl, Lizzie. What they discover is that they–and Emma–may be nothing more than characters written into being from an alternative universe for a very specific purpose.

Now what they must uncover is why they’ve been brought to this place–a world between the lines where parallel realities are created and destroyed and nightmares are written–before someone pens their end.

    Pieces of Me

    addtogoodreads

PIECES OF ME by Amber Kizer will be released in the U.S. on February 11, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Delacorte Press, the print edition is 304 pages.

    Dots_Divider

When I read the description for PIECES OF ME I was totally intrigued and because I love the author’s writing I added it to my list of pre-orders. And I’m thrilled that it is releasing this week.

I am curious to find out whether this story is about posthumous self-discovery or whether it has more of a sci-fi bent… or whether it has a bit of both. The only types of stories I have heard of that involve the concept of cell memory are all horror stories, so I’m very interested in seeing if this story is just a bit different.

The tagline leads me to believe it’s something new, something heartwarming. So I can’t wait to get the chance to get this on the pile and find out. And if I don’t take on any more review books in the next couple of weeks, I hope to be able to add this to the pile in early April.

    Description…

When high school oddball and introvert Jessica Chai is killed in a car accident, her parents decide that Jessica would have wanted her organs donated to those who so desperately need these gifts of life. But Jessica is angry about dying and being dismembered.

Taking the idea of cell memory to the next level, not only do the recipients get pieces of Jessica, but gets pieces of their memories and lives moving forward—she knows what they know and keeps tabs on their growth, recovery, and development. This begins her journey to learn her purpose as she begins to grasp that her ties to these teenagers goes beyond random weirdness. It’s through their lives that Jessica learns about herself, as she watches the lives she literally touched continue to interlock.

I’m pretty sure I only have the five books and two novellas pre-ordered this week. Which makes me really happy, even though I haven’t read any of them. While all five novels may be TBR pile adds, for the first time in a long while my wallet will get a bit of a break. Though I am eyeing at least three books on the “Other Books of Note” list….

THE GLASS CASKET has been just begging me to click to buy, as has been ARCADIA FALLS and THE WORLDS WE MAKE. I’m not sure I’ll have the strength to resist. Especially as next weekend is a long weekend and I potentially have jury duty to sit through the following week.

And the longer I look at FATES the more my resistance begins to crumble. *SIGH.*

But for now I just have five books and two novellas pre-ordered. So that’s not such a bad thing. Even if I totally cave and add those other four books to the pile this week. Right?

    Anyway…

I hope that there are a number of books releasing this week that you’ve had on your radar and will now have in your collection. And I hope that when you do get to take them off the TBR pile that they are every bit as amazing as you’d hoped they’d be.

And if they’re just temporarily being loaned to you, I hope you don’t have to wait too long to devour them. Because I know just how much waiting sucks. So I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

    Happy reading!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    Split Second

    add

SPLIT SECOND by Kasie West will be released in the U.S. on February 11, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 368 pages.

SPLIT SECOND is the second book in Kasie West’s Pivot Point series.

    line

Oh my gosh, ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh I am SO excited that SPLIT SECOND by Kasie West is releasing in less than two weeks. Wait… that’s not how I usually start off these posts. But ohmygosh I cannot help it. I am so completely and totally stoked about this news.

    Okay… deep breaths… take two.

The week of February 11th has some fantastic books releasing, but the book that jumps to the tip top of the list for me is SPLIT SECOND, the sequel to PIVOT POINT. It feels like forever and ever since I read PIVOT POINT – has it really only been a year? – but I’m just dying to find out what’s going to happen next with Addie and Laila.

As I really don’t want to spoil the first book in the series, for those who might not have read it yet, I’m going to try to keep my rambling, and gushing, vague. But ohmygosh what are you waiting for? That book is awesome. And that ending is KILLER.

I am so nervous about why Addie’s powers are acting up. I’m even more nervous about her going to see her Dad and running into Trevor. And I’m so very anxious about what Laila is trying to do and how it might change things…. But that’s all I’m going to say out loud. Even though I’m curious about so many other things.

PIVOT POINT was every bit as amazing as I thought it might be. And from the description it appears that this sequel will be just as amazing, if not more so. SPLIT SECOND will be a D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) book for me on its release date and I’m getting really, really excited – if you couldn’t tell – for its upcoming release.

So, while I am also excited about the other four titles listed below, I am the most thrilled about SPLIT SECOND‘s release. I have loved the two books I’ve read by Author Kasie West and I just know I’m going to be crazy about this sequel. Which is why I had to shine the spotlight on it and why I’m calling it the book to watch this week.

    What about you?

Of all the books releasing the week of February 11th, is SPLIT SECOND the one you’ve been pining for the most or longest? Have you been counting down the days since PIVOT POINT’s release to find out what happens next?

I’d love to ask about Trevor, but those of you who “met” him know any talk of all things Trevor would be seriously spoiler-y. So I’ll just ask whether you’re as intrigued by Connor as I am?

    About the Book

    Goodreads description:

    Today’s topic is…

Best Books I’ve Read in 2013

I read a ton of awesome books this year. Many from the same series by the same author. But as I was trying so very hard to keep my list to just ten, I decided to choose only one book from each series, even if I read multiple books in a particular series that I thought were amazing.

And I couldn’t list all my favorite reads this year since one or two of them were a secret. Nor could I list all the 2013 releases I love, love, loved since I read some of them in 2012. But I’m not too sad about that, because reading them last year made creating this list just a little bit easier.

There were also a few books I loved in 2013 that were not YA. But in keeping with my typical YA only “best” list, I didn’t include them in this post. Though I plan on posting my non-YA favorites on The Annex. Yes, I’m cheating just a little… as usual. But I just can’t seem to help myself.

    Anyway…

It took me ages to narrow my list down from my original picks and to keep my “honorable mentions” to only four titles, just like last year. But after much hair pulling and nail-biting I was able to get it done.

    line2

The Best I’ve Read in 2013

    1.

    With All My Soul

WITH ALL MY SOUL by Rachel Vincent

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

As sad as I was to see this series end, I still couldn’t help falling madly in love with this last installment. It was heartbreaking and nerve-wracking and exciting and heartwarming and I loved every single minute of the read.

I especially loved the fact that I was able to become intrigued by a brand new character, that the story wasn’t rushed and that the ending didn’t leave me feeling like something was missing. It was the perfect ending to an amazing series and I couldn’t have loved it any more than I did.

    2.

    Endless Knight

    ENDLESS KNIGHT by Kresley Cole

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

Kresley Cole’s Arcana Chronicles are completely and totally amazing. They are so my kind of books. From beginning to end in both books in this series I was utterly riveted.

And while I didn’t think it was possible, this second book in the series was even more exciting than the first. It was darker, it was hotter, it was all sorts of sexy. The lore was fascinating. And it made me fall head-over-heels in love with Death just like I hoped it would.

To say that I am dying for the next installment in this series would be a major understatement.

    3.

    Through the Zombie Glass

THROUGH THE ZOMBIE GLASS by Gena Showalter

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I read both books in this series in 2013 and absolutely loved both of them. They were unputdownable reads and I couldn’t have been more surprised by the fact that I fell so completely in love with zombie books that gave a nod to Alice in Wonderland.

Gena Showalter was incredibly creative with her stories. She did not skimp on the action. It was edge-of-your-seat exciting. And the love story was angst-filled and twisty-turny to the max.

And as I opted to choose just one of the two books in this series as a favorite, I had to select the one that absolutely killed me in the best possible way.

    4.

    The Eternity Cure

THE ETERNITY CURE by Julie Kagawa

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I did not expect to love the Blood of Eden series more than I loved the author’s faerie books. But oh my gosh I couldn’t help myself. Dystopia and vampires are an unexpected combination but one that the author made work so amazingly well.

The characters, the epic journey, the killer cliffhanger all worked together to make this one of my favorite books and not simply a 2013 favorite. I’m talking all-time favorite.

    5.

    Crash Into You

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I fell under Katie McGarry’s spell in 2013. She is a fan-freaking-tastic writer and her Pushing the Limits series is one of my very most favorite contemporary YA series.

I read all three books in this series, plus the novella, in 2013, which made it very hard to choose only one of the books for my top ten list. But I had to choose Isaiah and Rachel’s story, even though I adored Noah and Echo’s story so, so much.

Perhaps it was getting to know and love Isaiah before reading his story that made me love it that much more. Or perhaps it’s simply just that Isaiah is amazing. But whatever the reason, it is my favorite of the series and it’s definitely one of my favorite reads from 2013.

    6.

    Afterglow

    AFTERGLOW by Karsten Knight

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I was devastated to see this series end. The world that Karsten Knight created was so unique and fascinating and exciting. The characters were lovable and detestable and completely and totally kick-a**. And this final installment in the series was just as phenomenal as its predecessors.

And that ending. Oh. My. Gosh. That ending. While I can’t talk about that ending, I will just say that it gives me hope. For a certain character. Oh the possibilities.

    7.

    Star Cursed Cover

    STAR CURSED by Jessica Spotswood

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I was so glad that I got the chance to read both books in The Cahill Witch Chronicles this year. I was completely surprised by how much I loved each of the books. They are not stories in my typical go-to genre and yet both books are among my most favorites.

I couldn’t help but fall in love with the story, the setting, the characters. It’s a totally addictive read and one that’s definitely re-read worthy. Though even after a re-read, it’s no easier to have to wait for the next installment in the series. This I know all too well.

    8.

    The Beautiful and the Cursed

THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE CURSED by Page Morgan

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

Yet another unexpected favorite on my list is Page Morgan’s THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE CURSED. If someone told me that I could fall in love with a gargoyle I would have totally rolled my eyes at them. I might have even told them that they were crazy. I would have definitely thought it.

Well, this author made me not only fall in love with a gargoyle, but her story about them. The sequel is one of my most anticipated reads for 2014. And the wait is killing me.

    9.

    While You're Away

WHILE YOU’RE AWAY by Jessa Holbrook

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I read this book in its serialized format, with just a few chapters available to read in one sitting. It was exquisite torture. This story was tantalizing and nerve-wracking and beautiful and nerve-wracking – yes I said it twice, but it needed to be said two times… if not more.

I was made to root for a love story that I never would have thought I’d cheer for. I was made to wish and hope for a happily ever after for two characters who, at first, I didn’t think deserved one. I was anxious, I was fearful, I was tentatively hopeful and at times I was even sad. But I was keeping my fingers crossed the entire time for the slim chance that things would work out.

    10.

    A Touch Menacing

A TOUCH MENACING by Leah Clifford

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

Leah Clifford’s Touch Trilogy is one of my favorite series of all time. It’s so very different from anything I’ve ever read. It’s very dark. It is full of surprises. Shocking surprises. Devastating surprises. But it is wicked, wicked awesome.

The end of this final installment in the series left me in tears. And, no, I won’t say whether they’re happy or sad tears. But if you have read this book or you’ve read any of the books in this series by this author I think you will know exactly what kind of tears there were.

This last book was non-stop action, with more than a few punches to the face. I couldn’t devour it fast enough. It was that epic. And if I didn’t think it could get any better, the unpublished epilogue made this book that much more off-the-charts amazing for me. Holy-freaking-wow.

Other Books I Love, Love, Loved

    SweetPeril

    SWEET PERIL by Wendy Higgins

Exciting. Sexy as heck. Captivating from start to finish. Delicious. An absolute must.

    The Testing

    THE TESTING by Joelle Charbonneau

Gripping. Surprising. Totally addictive. A total stand-out.

    The Burning Sky

THE BURNING SKY by Sherry Thomas

Magical. Enchanting. Captivating. Epic. Fan-freaking-tastically good.

    Pivot Point

    PIVOT POINT by Kasie West

    Intriguing. Nerve-wracking. Unputdownable. Amazing.

    line3

I tried to keep my rambling to a minimum when it came to my top ten picks for 2013. But I may have gone on just a little longer than I’d planned. Oh well…

But I just couldn’t help myself. They are my favorite reads this year… well, most of them. There are a few others…

I will try to be a lot less wordy in the rest of the posts this week, but when it comes to favorite reads I always feel the need to go on… and on… and on.

But now that I’m done I can’t wait to check out what your favorite reads are, so be sure to leave a link to your posts or Goodreads shelf in the Linky List that follows just below the giveaways.

    The Giveaways

We have decided to combine the giveaways into one Rafflecopter form that is shared on all three host blogs and will be posted in each of the Top 10 posts this week.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #131

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of July 2nd-July 8th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    The Distance Between Us

    addtogoodreads

THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US by Kasie West will be released in the U.S. on July 2, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Line_001

I am so unbelievably thrilled that THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US is finally releasing this week. I’ve been so excited about this book ever since I read author Kasie West’s PIVOT POINT. I loved the author’s writing style in that book and can’t wait to see what she does with a contemporary novel.

As I already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post I won’t ramble on about all the reasons why I want to read this book. But I will just say that I’m dying to know who Caymen should be worried about aside from Xander. And that I love that this story doesn’t appear to be just a love story where money is the only thing keeping these two apart.

I think the author is an amazing writer and I can’t wait to meet these two new characters she’s created. And I just know that I will be reading it the instant it downloads to my Kindle on Monday Midnight.

    Some Quiet Place

    addtogoodreads

SOME QUIET PLACE by Kelsey Sutton will be released in the U.S. in paperback format on July 8, 2013. An eBook edition was previously released on June 1, 2013.

It is currently available to pre-order in paperback format at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Flux, the print edition is 336 pages.

    Line_001

I actually own the eBook of SOME QUIET PLACE already. When I went to pre-order the print copy – because that cover is so amazing I just had to – I saw that the eBook was already available and I couldn’t resist adding it to my collection.

But I can’t wait for the print edition to be delivered later this week so I can see if that fascinating, beautiful and somewhat eerie cover is every bit as awesome in real life. But I also can’t wait to read this book.

I’d first seen SOME QUIET PLACE on NetGalley awhile back and I was totally intrigued by the idea that the main character couldn’t feel emotions and so they became real people in order to sway her. I love the idea that Fear is intrigued by her and works with her to uncover her hidden past. And I’m so curious to find out what “shadowy menace” is stalking her and whether Fear will be able to save her.

With such an interesting premise and a fascinating cover, I can’t wait to dive into this book. Something I hope to do later this week if I finish this week’s reads a little bit early.

    This Strange and Familiar Place

    addtogoodreads

THIS STRANGE AND FAMILIAR PLACE by Rachel Carter will be released in the U.S. on July 2, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 272 pages.

THIS STRANGE AND FAMILIAR PLACE is the second book in author Rachel Carter’s So Close to You series. The third and final book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in summer 2014.

    Line_001

I have not yet read the first book in Rachel Carter’s series but I own it and just had to pre-order THIS STRANGE AND FAMILIAR PLACE for my eReader. I love stories about time travel and I really want to meet Lydia and find out more about the “dark secrets” involving the Montauk Project.

I did not end up peeking at the description because I’m hoping to be able to read both books back-to-back in the next few weeks. So I have no idea what Lydia uncovers in that first book. I have no idea where this story is headed.

And I have no idea whether Wes is someone that she can trust. But I can’t wait to find out.

While I only have three books pre-ordered this week, there are actually a few of the books of note that I’m definitely thinking of adding to the collection, including A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S SCREAM, TRULY, MADLY, DEADLY, SHUTDOWN and VIRAL NATION.

As I have such a huge backlog of books on the TBR pile, I’m desperately trying to curtail my spending on books that I won’t be reading immediately. That hasn’t worked out very well so far. Because each week there are so many amazing books that I am so afraid I’ll forget about if I don’t get them right now.

    But at least I’m not pre-ordering them. That’s a start… right?

Anyway… with the holiday week this week I can’t think of a better way to spend one of the days than perusing my local Barnes & Noble. I am actually enjoying reading books in print and I’d love to grab a few paperbacks and head to the beach with them.

And with so many interesting books releasing this week I don’t think I’ll have any problem finding a few new adds.

It feels like I’ve been waiting for this Book Watch post forever, because ever since I read Kasie West’s PIVOT POINT I’ve been dying to get my hands on THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US. So when it came time to choose the book to watch for the week of July 2nd there was no other book I could dream of spotlighting but this amazing-sounding book.

I just love the way this author tells a story and develops her characters and I cannot wait to see how she weaves her words in this contemporary tale which has been described as “Pretty in Pink meets Pride and Prejudice.” And I can’t wait to see if Caymen and Xander are able to overcome the distance between them or if the divide is just too great.

Aside from the fact that Caymen is wary about those with money and that her mother has warned her against rich boys’ attention spans, the description hints that there’s something more than just her mother’s disapproval that Caymen “should’ve been worried about” or rather someone. Which makes me really curious to find out just who that is.

I love stories where the characters are from different worlds, especially ones that involve differences in socioeconomic status. I mean, who doesn’t love a Cinderella story or a love story where one of those in love is from the wrong side of the tracks?

There’s nothing quite like class distinctions or biases to keep two people apart… or at the very least put some pretty big obstacles in the way of a happily-ever-after. And I’m super curious to see if what else, if anything, comes between Caymen and Xander.

I loved “Pretty in Pink.” It’s one of my favorite films. And I even loved the book that was clearly based on an earlier version of the script with a very, very different ending. So, if the framework for this story is anything like that movie I just know I’m going to love the DISTANCE BETWEEN US, even if the ending is a bittersweet or tragic one.

Of course, if the story is nothing like that movie, I still couldn’t imagine not loving it. A cautious and biased main character. A persistent, charming and wealthy love interest. A disapproving parent. And a love story that’s far from insta-love. How could I not love it?

So… because of its awesomeness, because the author is amazing and because I’m just dying to read this book, even though there are some other fantastic-sounding books releasing the week of July 2nd, for me, THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US is the book to watch this week.

    About the Book

    Goodreads description:

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she’s beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.
