FIRST & THEN Book Superlative Blog Tour + Giveaway

    FandTBT

I am so excited to be today’s stop on the FIRST & THEN Book Superlative Blog Tour. Not only because I had such a fun superlative, but because it’s FIRST & THEN’s release day!

    HBB

This was such a fun idea for a tour, and I loved checking out all the stops to see what each of the bloggers had to say about their superlatives. If you’d like to follow along, the tour schedule with direct links to all the stops is at the bottom of this post. And if you’d like to check out the tour page on Fierce Reads, just click the banner at the top of this post or the tour graphic a bit further down.

For my stop today I get to talk about the “Friendliest Author(s) on Twitter.” And while I normally ramble endlessly about who I think is awesome and why I think they’re awesome, I decided to do so in a way that was less words, more pics. And of course there are plenty more than just the authors I chose to include, but I managed to narrow it down just a bit.

My tour stop also includes a giveaway for a copy of FIRST & THEN. This is an amazing book and a total must read. If you’d like to know what I thought about it, my review is HERE. But if you haven’t yet heard about FIRST & THEN check out the description – with a link to an excerpt – below.

And if you want to see who I think is super sweet on Twitter, scroll down just a bit further to find out!

    Description…

Devon Tennyson wouldn’t change a thing. She’s happy silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon’s cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive jock, Ezra, right where she doesn’t want them–first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life.

With wit, heart, and humor to spare, First & Then is a contemporary novel about falling in love–with the unexpected boy, with a new brother, and with yourself.

TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD Blog Tour: Interview with Jennifer L. Armentrout + Giveaway

    ttb-blogtour-New

I’m thrilled to be one of two interview stops today on the TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD Blog Tour hosted by the publisher, Brazen (an Entangled Publishing imprint). I’ve been a long-time fan of the author and was so unbelievably excited to find out that she brought her fantastic writing to, and created some amazing characters for, contemporary romance.

TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD is more than a guilty pleasure read. The dynamic between the two main characters, Alana and Chandler, is electrically-charged. There is plenty of heat, but it doesn’t overpower the romance or the storyline. It strikes the right balance.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to meet any of the Gamble brothers, now is the perfect time. TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD is Chandler Gamble’s story and his and Alana’s story sizzles. Being introduced to this Gamble brother is sure to make you want to get to know more about the others.

Of course if you prefer to read a series in order, they’re super quick reads, and it won’t be long before you’ll meet Chandler. But if you don’t mind reading out of order, you can easily read this book out of sequence.

Alana and Chandler are both strong-willed, both adventurous, and both seemingly insatiable. So if you are looking for a story that is H.O.T. then you won’t be disappointed. And if you’d like a chance to win a copy, I’m giving away a few eBook copies below.

In addition to being able to help spread the word about TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD‘s release this week, I also got the chance to ask the author a few questions about the book and series. So if you’d like to know just a little bit more about which book in the series was the most challenging to write or why it was decided that Alana and Chandler would become a couple, check out the interview immediately below.

And just in case you hadn’t yet heard of this series, I included some information about each of the books a little bit further down in this post.

    The Interview

    Q. Which couple’s story in this series was your most challenging to write about and why?

Tempting the Bodyguard was the most challenging book in the series to write because Chandler and Alana are both such controlling characters. I had to try to find a balance between their personalities that would work within the story.

    Q. What made you decide to bring Alana and Chandler together?

I thought bringing their personalities together would make them an exciting couple. It was fun for me to see how their individual and similar characteristics would mesh.

    Q. More than his brothers, Chandler Gamble has all the qualities that make him the subject of many a female (and male) fantasy – both fictional and real. The eyes, the hair, the rockin’ bod – those abs – the job, the attitude….where was I going with this question? Oh yes… Had you always planned for him to be so very, definitely male – sexy as hell, protector, bad boy?

Yes, I always imagined Chandler to be the most protective and dominant Gamble brother. I just had to find the right female to fit his personality and I thought Alana would be a good match.

    Q. Alana and Chandler have amazing chemistry. Sizzling, to be precise. On first glance they seem like complete opposites but they have certain characteristics in common. Would you say theirs is more an opposites attract or a soul mates type of connection?

Since Alana and Chandler both tend to be demanding and controlling, I don’t think of their relationship as opposites attract. But I don’t view them as having the soul mates type of connection either. I think they had to work for their relationship because of their similarities.

    Q. Have you ever crushed on, fallen for, or drooled over any or all of your characters? Has it been hard to share them with the world?

I tend to write my male characters with qualities that I find sexy and attractive, so I really crush on all of them. I don’t find it hard to share them with the world because the whole point of writing for me is to share my characters and their stories. I’m happy to have readers crushing on my characters along with me.

TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD Release Day Blast

    TTB RDL Banner 2

I am thrilled that today is the release date for TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD, the third book in the Gamble Brothers series by J. Lynn. I got the chance to read it just a little bit early and it was a steamy, sexy, totally hot romance. It was my first introduction to the series and as Alana and Chandler’s story was so awesome I just had to pick up the other two books and can’t wait to read them.

Published by Brazen, an Entangled Publishing imprint, Jennifer L. Armentrout, writing as J. Lynn, delivers a story that is smokin’ hot, so easy to get caught up in, and one that you won’t want to put down.

While I haven’t yet had the chance to get to know Chandler’s brothers very well, I can say for certain that he is and will continue to be my favorite. He’s rough, dangerous, incredibly sexy. And yes, he likes to get his kink on.

Whether you’ve read the first two books in this series or not, TEMPTING THE BODYGUARD is a great way to meet the characters. And while it may not be necessary to read TEMPTING THE BEST MAN and TEMPTING THE PLAYER first, you’ll definitely want to read all of them to get to know each of the Gamble brothers and choose your favorite.

If you’d like to know a little bit more about the books in this series, their details are below with links to places you can find them online. And if you haven’t yet had the chance to read a book by Author Jennifer L. Armentrout, be sure to check out her website for details on all the stories and series she’s written.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 416 pages.

THE FOREVER SONG is the third and final full-length book in Author Julie Kagawa’s Blood of Eden series.

    divider2

I am so excited that THE FOREVER SONG releases this week and that everyone will get to see what happens in this final book in this ahhh-mazing series. I got the chance to read it early and I thought it was the perfect series-ending book, but I still can’t wait for the finished copy to download to my Kindle.

As I already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post and wrote a review for the tour, I won’t ramble on and on about how much I loved it or how it was a must read or how there were tears. But I did love, love, love it, it is a total must read, and there were so many twisty-turny, heartach-y moments and you better believe there were tears.

The only thing I have to add is that it’s a must read NOW. Don’t wait. It’s just that good.

    Description…

    VENGEANCE WILL BE HERS

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?

With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.

    MONSTER

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions—her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost—the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

    Don't Look Back-Cover

DON’T LOOK BACK by Jennifer L. Armentrout will be released in the U.S. on April 15, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Disney-Hyperion, the print edition is 384 pages.

    divider2

I am totally stoked for the release of DON’T LOOK BACK. When I heard that Jennifer L. Armentrout was writing a mystery/suspense novel I instantly added it to my list of pre-orders. And while I have the finished copy in print and have read it, I cannot wait for the Kindle copy to download so it will be a part of my permanent collection.

I just rambled a little bit about what I thought for my tour post yesterday and hope to post a review later this week, so I won’t go on and on about this captivating standalone. I will just say that it was awesome, whether you solve the mystery early or not.

Oh and just because this is a mystery, does not mean that it’s missing any of those swoon-y bits that JLA is famous for. Carson Ortiz is totally swoon-worthy – those eyes, those eyes! – and the tension and chemistry is yummy.

    Description…

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it’s one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took “mean girl” to a whole new level, and it’s clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She’s getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she’s falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn’t just buried deep inside of Sam’s memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

    What I Thought Was True

WHAT I THOUGHT WAS TRUE by Huntley Fitzpatrick will be released in the U.S. on April 15, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Dial, the print edition is 416 pages.

    divider2

I only recently learned of WHAT I THOUGHT WAS TRUE when I received an invitation on NetGalley to take a peek inside. And after checking out the description I decided it was a must pre-order.

While I didn’t get to take an early peek, I can’t wait for my Kindle copy to download on Tuesday. I love swoon-y romance. I can’t wait to see what secrets Gwen Castle uncovers and learn more about what the truth really is. And I can’t wait to find out if her romance is with rich boy Cassidy Somers.

The description promises that this story is not only “magnetic” but has “depth” which totally appeals. So I definitely plan on reading it in the next couple of weeks while I’m on this major contemporary reading kick I’ve been on.

    Description…

From the author of My Life Next Door comes a swoony summertime romance full of expectation and regret, humor and hard questions.

Gwen Castle’s Biggest Mistake Ever, Cassidy Somers, is slumming it as a yard boy on her Nantucket-esque island this summer. He’s a rich kid from across the bridge in Stony Bay, and she hails from a family of fishermen and housecleaners who keep the island’s summer people happy. Gwen worries a life of cleaning houses will be her fate too, but just when it looks like she’ll never escape her past—or the island—Gwen’s dad gives her some shocking advice. Sparks fly and secret histories unspool as Gwen spends a gorgeous, restless summer struggling to resolve what she thought was true—about the place she lives, the people she loves, and even herself—with what really is.

A magnetic, push-me-pull-me romance with depth, this is for fans of Sarah Dessen, Jenny Han, and Deb Caletti.

Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 368 pages.

    divider2

I can’t believe I still haven’t read a novel by Jenny Han. I own quite a few of her books, and have TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE pre-ordered. But I still haven’t gotten the chance to discover her writing.

I’ve heard she’s an amazing writer and I am hoping that this book will be my first, as I love the idea that her character, Lara Jean, wrote secret letters to the boys she’s crushed on which then somehow got sent to them.

I am so curious as to how her box of letters is discovered and to find out just who mailed them. But I’m most curious about what her crushes think and how they react to receiving the letters. And I can’t wait to find out just what “good” comes out of their discovery.

    Description…

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.

I have not yet read TAKEN but I just had to pre-order FROZEN as I know I’m going to love this series. The description of the first book is so awesome and sounds like such a “me” book that I had to add this second book in the series to my collection on its release date.

And I can’t wait until it downloads tomorrow so that I can read both books back-to-back plus the novella.

While I would almost love to wait until book three’s release, I don’t think I’ll be able to wait much more than a couple of weeks to meet Gray Weathersby, learn more about the Heist and find out what lies beyond the Wall of Claysoot.

As I haven’t read book one just yet I am not going to read the description for FROZEN, though I am so very, very curious about what’s going to happen. But if I can resist for just a little while longer, I won’t possibly spoil this book, which gives me that much more incentive to dive into both books either later this month or early next month.

    Description…

The Heists were only the beginning.

Gray Weathersby escaped from the primitive town of Claysoot expecting to find answers, but what he discovered shook him to the core: A ruthless dictator with absolute power. An army of young soldiers blinded by lies. And a growing rebellion determined to fight back.

Now Gray has joined a team of rebels on a harsh, icy journey in search of allies who can help them set things right. But in a world built on lies, Gray must constantly question whether any ally—or enemy—is truly what they seem…

HOUSE OF IVY & SORROW by Natalie Whipple will be released in the U.S. on April 15, 2014 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 368 pages.

I decided to pre-order HOUSE OF IVY & SORROW entirely because of its name. Of course I’ve heard this author is awesome, I own TRANSPARENT, and after having read the description for this book I would have purchased it regardless. But I pre-ordered it because I fell in love with the title.

I am curious to learn more about this Curse and how it can possibly save everyone Josephine loves. I love that the main character’s last name is Hemlock. I love that her home is fortified by magic. And I love that the story involves dark witchcraft.

While I’m not sure when I’ll get the chance to add this to the pile, I definitely plan on taking a peek once my copy downloads on Tuesday. And if it instantly grabs I may have to go off-pile and read it this week. We shall see…

    Description…

Josephine Hemlock has spent the last 10 years hiding from the Curse that killed her mother. But when a mysterious man arrives at her ivy-covered, magic-fortified home, it’s clear her mother’s killer has finally come to destroy the rest of the Hemlock bloodline. Before Jo can even think about fighting back, she must figure out who she’s fighting in the first place. The more truth Jo uncovers, the deeper she falls into witchcraft darker than she ever imagined. Trapped and running out of time, she begins to wonder if the very Curse that killed her mother is the only way to save everyone she loves.

    Description:

The Yellowstone supervolcano nearly wiped out the human race. Now, almost a year after the eruption, the survivors seem determined to finish the job. Communities wage war on each other, gangs of cannibals roam the countryside, and what little government survived the eruption has collapsed completely. The ham radio has gone silent. Sickness, cold, and starvation are the survivors’ constant companions.

When it becomes apparent that their home is no longer safe and adults are not facing the stark realities, Alex and Darla must create a community that can survive the ongoing disaster, an almost impossible task requiring even more guts and more smarts than ever — and unthinkable sacrifice. If they fail . . . they, their loved ones, and the few remaining survivors will perish.

This epic finale has the heart of Ashfall, the action of Ashen Winter, and a depth all its own, examining questions of responsibility and bravery, civilization and society, illuminated by the story of an unshakable love that transcends a post-apocalyptic world and even life itself.

    Description:

Lucy and Owen meet somewhere between the tenth and eleventh floors of a New York City apartment building, on an elevator rendered useless by a citywide blackout. After they’re rescued, they spend a single night together, wandering the darkened streets and marveling at the rare appearance of stars above Manhattan. But once the power is restored, so is reality. Lucy soon moves to Edinburgh with her parents, while Owen heads out west with his father.

Lucy and Owen’s relationship plays out across the globe as they stay in touch through postcards, occasional e-mails, and — finally — a reunion in the city where they first met.

A carefully charted map of a long-distance relationship, Jennifer E. Smith’s new novel shows that the center of the world isn’t necessarily a place. It can be a person, too.

I seem to have missed posting last week’s releases. I wrote the post, I scheduled it. But yet it never posted and I can’t find it… I’m starting to wonder if I accidentally added it to one of my other blogs. Or accidentally deleted it.

I also might be missing a ton of other releases this week, since Google Calendar has been doing weird things. Though I hope not. I am pretty sure I only have the six books pre-ordered that I’ve listed above. Though there may be a few missing novellas….

And while I don’t have OPEN ROAD SUMMER, THERE WILL COME A TIME, SUNRISE and THE GEOGRAPHY OF YOU AND ME pre-ordered, I have a feeling I’ll be adding all of them to my collection this week. Definitely if I have any of my Amazon credit left, but most likely even if I don’t.

Anyway… I will try and update this post tomorrow if I have any other releases that download. Or I’ll add them to next week’s post as “missed.” But, as always, I hope that the wait has ended for a book or two that you’ve been pining for and that you’ll get the chance to them to your collection this week.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

DON’T LOOK BACK BLOG TOUR: Excerpt and Giveaway

    DontLookBackBT

I am totally stoked to be able to be a part of the DON’T LOOK BACK Blog Tour hosted by Mundie Moms Blog Tours. I love anything and everything Jennifer L. Armentrout writes and she kills every genre she tackles. DON’T LOOK BACK is her first YA mystery/suspense and it is awesome.

Whether you solve the puzzle early or are surprised by the outcome at the end, the story will keep you hooked from the very first moment you meet Sam. She is easy to connect with, sympathize with, and like, and you’ll be rooting for her as she tries to piece together what happened to her and her friend Cassie.

While I don’t want to give away too much about what happens, I’m thrilled to be able to share an excerpt from early in the story of a scene with Sam and her brother Scott just shortly after she’s returned that reveals a lot about who Sam was prior to her memory loss and who her best friend and boyfriend are.

All I can say is that I’m glad we get to meet the Sam we do. I’m not sure how much I’d like the other Sam.

Anyway… this very awesome tour includes a giveaway for fifteen copies of DON’T LOOK BACK – one copy for each stop on the tour – and excerpt reveals at all the stops. So be sure to check out each stop on tour for more peeks inside DON’T LOOK BACK, which releases on Tuesday, and a few reviews.

    Formats: Hardcover, eBook

    The Excerpt

Pushing the picture under the bed with my toes, I ran clammy hands down my hips.

    “What…what do you mean?”

He sauntered into the room, stopping a few feet in front me. We were the same height.

“Where have you really been, Sam?”

    “I don’t know.”

“You don’t?” He laughed, and the skin crinkled around his eyes. “Come on. What did you and Cassie get yourselves into this time?”

“Cassie’s missing,” I mumbled, glancing down at the floor. She hadn’t really looked like the girl the deputy had shown me. I bent down, grabbing the picture from underneath the bed.

    “This is Cassie, right?”

He frowned as he glanced at the picture. “Yeah, that’s Cassie.”

I quickly placed the picture on the bedside table. “I don’t know where she is.”

    “I have theories.”

Interest piqued, I rocked back on my heels. “You do?”

Scott flopped on my bed and stretched out lazily. “Shit, you probably killed her and stashed her body somewhere.” He laughed. “That’s my main theory.”

Blood drained out of my face, and I gasped.

The smile on his face faded as he watched me. “Sam, dude, I was kidding.”

“Oh.” Sweet relief shot through me, and I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at my chipped nails. In an instant, everything turned gray and white. The only color was red—vibrant, garish red under my fingernails. Soft whimpers—someone was crying.

Scott grabbed my arm. “Hey, you okay?”

I blinked, and the vision, the sounds faded away. Shoving my hands under my legs, I nodded. “Yeah, I’m okay.”

He sat up, staring at me. “Holy shit, you’re not faking it.”

    “Faking what?”

“The whole amnesia thing—because I was betting money you were off partying somewhere, got trashed for days, and couldn’t come home until you sobered up.”

Damn. “Did I do that often?”

Scott barked out a laugh. “Yeah…this is weird. You’re definitely not faking.”

Now I felt even more confused. “How can you tell?”

“Well, for starters, you haven’t kicked me out of your room or threatened to ruin my life yet.”

    “I’d do that?”

He stared at me, his eyes wide. “Yeah, and sometimes you’d even hit me. Once, I hit you back, and, well, that didn’t go over well. Dad got pissed. Mom was mortified.”

My brows pinched. “We…hit each other?”

Shaking his head, Scott leaned back. “Man, this is bizarre.”

No doubt. I pulled my hands out from under my legs and sighed. “Back to the whole killing-Cassie-and-hiding-her-body thing. Why did you say that?”

“I was kidding. You two have been best friends foreva.” He smirked. “Actually, you guys were more like frenemies in the last couple of years. There was some kind of unspoken rivalry going on between you two. It started when you made homecoming queen during sophomore year and she made court. At least that’s what you tell everyone, but I’m thinking it started when you two were freshmen and you started dating Del the Dick.”

“Del the Dick?” I tucked a strand of hair back. “That’s my boyfriend.”

    That’s your whole world.”

Not liking the sound of that, I made a face. “I don’t remember…him, either.”

    My Reading Pile #159

    myreadingpile

I didn’t receive any physical books in the mail this week, but I think I might have gone a little crazy with eGalleys. Though I did show some restraint when I saw all the amazing HarperCollins titles on Edelweiss. For now. So it’s kind of a relief that nothing arrived in the mail. Though I am expecting something in the coming week…

    nobooks2

[Credit for mailbox sharing goes to The Story Siren]

My mailbox was empty, but as an eBook junkie I can’t complain. There are so very many eARCs that I’m just dying to click to download, that I’m not in the least bit sad.

Besides, with the number of boxes that showed up this week with my gear for my overnight sailing class, I don’t think I could have squeezed in bookish packages. It’s so crowded.

So I’m glad that the six eARCs that I received this week take up only digital space. And they are…

    Courtesy of Entangled Teen…

THE WARRIOR (Dante Walker #3) by Victoria Scott (for the tour)

I cannot believe this series is ending. I feel like I just got to meet Dante and now I’m going to have to say goodbye. But I’m so excited to have received this just a little bit early and I may have to sneak it onto the pile either later this week or next week.

    Courtesy of William Morrow…

BOOMERANG (Boomerang #1) by Noelle August (via Edelweiss)

This first book in the series sounds like so much fun. I participated in the cover reveal and when I saw it on Edelweiss I just had to grab it. As I’ve been on a contemporary kick as of late, I may just end up diving into this book this week.

    Courtesy of HarperTeen…

DON’T TOUCH by Rachel M. Wilson (via Edelweiss)

FERAL by Holly Schindler (via Edelweiss)

I first learned of both books a month or two ago, when I saw their covers revealed. And both sound so incredible. A girl with a fear of being touched and a “haunting psychological thriller” are stories that are right up my alley. As both aren’t releasing until late summer, I won’t be diving in quite yet. But as my goal is to try and read eARCs much earlier than their release dates, I’m hoping to read these in June or July.

    Courtesy of Balzer + Bray…

TEASE by Amanda Maciel (via Edelweiss)

I got an invite for the tour so I grabbed a copy to read from Edelweiss. While the cover looks fun and flirty, the story is much more hard-hitting. As it’s inspired by real-life events involving bullying, harassment and suicide, I imagine it will be just as “haunting” as the description promises. And I plan on adding this to the pile next week.

CHANTRESS ALCHEMY (Chantress #2) by Amy Butler Greenfield

I can’t wait to read this second book in the Chantress series. I would love to add it to the pile right now, but this week is madness IRL. If I can sneak it in, I will, but I really shouldn’t add it to the pile for a couple of weeks.

And because this week is insane, I’m once again adding just one book to the pile. Though given the fact that I managed to read three books last week, who knows what I might read this week. But I’m only committing to…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

DON’T LOOK BACK by Jennifer L. Armentrout is the only official book I’ll be adding to the pile this week. I received a finished copy for review from the publisher Disney-Hyperion for the tour I’ll be on in a couple of weeks and I’ve been super excited to read it ever since it arrived last week.

I love the author’s writing and this story sounds creepy and amazing. And quite a bit different from the other stories I’ve read by her. But I just know it’s going to be fantastic.

I can’t wait to discover what happened to Cassie and what memories Sam is repressing. And I’m so curious what will happen to her if she does remember.

I can’t believe this title has been on NetGalley since December and I didn’t request it. But as December was a really bad month for me IRL, I completely forgot that I’d found it on there. I definitely would have requested it much, much sooner and if I was approved would have devoured it immediately. Well, I am stoked that I can devour it now.

    Wishful Thinking Reads

My wishful thinking read this week is ONLY EVERYTHING by Kieran Scott. I have been desperately trying to get this onto the pile for the longest time. I may have even chosen this as a past wishful thinking read. And I’m still wishing I could read it. It sounds like so much fun, super cute and totally romantic. I want to see if Cupid a.k.a. True succeeds, but sadly turning my “want to” into a “to” remains only just a wish.

    divider1

    Those Left Behind

I may have gotten a little bit sidetracked this past week. Instead of reading DON’T CALL ME BABY… though I did start it… I got a bit distracted by THROUGH TO YOU by Lauren Barnholdt and ON THE FENCE by Kasie West. Both of which were completely awesome.

I also picked up THE RING AND THE CROWN and should be finished with it before this posts. And my next planned read is PLUS ONE. So if I finish that before the weekend’s over, I will read last week’s book then start on this week’s read.

I’d planned on writing and posting my review for FORETOLD on Friday, but I changed my mind mid-week and thought it would be better to post it this coming Monday, when I have less stuff going on. So I’m in the middle of writing it and will hopefully have that finished and scheduled by Saturday morning. Fingers crossed.

I got a little bit waylaid by THE WALKING DEAD, though it didn’t get me set too far afield, because I still managed to read a few books and write a few posts. Just no reviews.

And as I have 19 posts I have to write by Wednesday, I don’t think I’ll be writing reviews for anything but FORETOLD and THE FOREVER SONG. So I don’t feel too guilty for not reviewing anything else.

    divider1

    NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds

I spent a little bit of time stalking Edelweiss this week, but didn’t get to poke around NetGalley, except to grab the sneak peek at WHAT I THOUGHT WAS TRUE by Huntley Fitzpatrick after I received the email notifying me of its existence. But checking for purposes of this post I found a few titles.

    Here are this week’s finds…

PUSH by Claire Wallis (Harlequin, May 1 2014) **A New Adult title**

THE LOST by Sarah Beth Durst (Harlequin, May 27 2014) **Not a YA title**

THE RECRUIT by Fiona Palmer (Harlequin Enterprises Australia, May 1 2014)

THE FOREVER SONG (AU/NZ version) by Julie Kagawa (Harlequin Enterprises Australia, May 1 2014)  **Australian reviewers preferred**

RECKONING (The Silver Blackthorn Trilogy #1) by Kerry Wilkinson (Pan Macmillan, May 22 2014) **UK reviewers preferred**

    divider1

I am heading into this weekend and next week totally stressed. I’m trying to get a bunch of posts done as I’ll be crazy busy on Thursday and then completely MIA on Friday through early Monday. Though I don’t know how on earth I’ll be able to write 19 posts in just a few days.

Plus I have to read my textbook for sailing class, study my notes from the previous courses I took, and do a couple of hours of homework.

And it’s not like I’ll be home at all on Saturday… today. So that leaves half a day on Sunday and Monday through Wednesday evenings. So yeah… totally stressed.

I probably should have taken a short blogging vacation, but between my weekly features and challenges I can’t bring myself to go AWOL. And so I stress.

Though at least I’ve finished my coastal navigation exam… I just hope I passed and don’t have to take that again. Fingers tightly crossed.

Anyway… I hope your mailbox wasn’t empty if you didn’t want it to be. And I hope you have some amazing books on the pile this week. If you’d like to share your reads and books received, leave a comment. I’d love to know!

    Happy Saturday and happy reading!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #165

    BookWatch_week

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of February 25th-March 3rd that I have pre-ordered.

    line

    White Hot Kiss

    goodreads2

WHITE HOT KISS by Jennifer L. Armentrout will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 400 pages.

WHITE HOT KISS is the first full-length novel in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s The Dark Elements series. The second full-length book, STONE COLD TOUCH, is slated for release in November 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I am so excited for this new series by author Jennifer L. Armentrout and can’t wait for my Kindle copy of WHITE HOT KISS to download on Monday Midnight. While I just recently grabbed an eARC, I wasn’t able to read it prior to its release but I will be reading the finished copy in the next couple of weeks.

I love that the main character in this story is part demon, part gargoyle. And I’m curious to learn how she manages to hide her darker nature. But I’m most interested in finding out whether a love triangle will develop between Layla, Zayne and Roth. This author really knows how to write angsty romance.

Plus, with the prospect of a demon uprising and the end of the world, this new series sounds awesome and I can’t wait to read it. I just have to decide whether or not to read the novella first.

    Description…

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

    Fire & Flood

    goodreads2

FIRE & FLOOD by Victoria Scott will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Scholastic Press, the print edition is 320 pages.

FIRE & FLOOD is the first book in Author Victoria Scott’s new series of the same name. The second book in the series is currently untitled.

    Dots_Divider

I am so excited that FIRE & FLOOD releases this week and that everyone will get the chance to read it. I can’t wait for the finished copy to download to my Kindle, especially as my eARC is a little mixed up and I’m definitely planning on reading this story again.

As I’ve already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post and I just posted my review for this earlier today, I don’t think I should ramble on and on about it. But it was a wonderful surprise. I absolutely loved the Pandoras – and Tella and Guy. And I really can’t wait for the sequel to come out.

It was such a great read that I’m hoping to be able to read it again in early April when I take my sailing class that will leave me on a boat for two nights with nothing but a Kindle to keep me company. It’s just one of those stories that you can easily get lost in and I have a feeling I’m going to need it.

    Book watch

    Description…

A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother’s life—and her own.

Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can’t determine what’s wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She’s lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she’s helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It’s an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother’s illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there’s no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can’t trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

    Grim cover

    goodreads2

GRIM by Christine Johnson, Kimberly Derting, et al will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON (HC)/AMAZON (eBook) and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 480 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I absolutely love fairy tales and can’t wait for GRIM‘s release this week. I grabbed an eARC for review for the tour I’ll be on later this week and I read the two stories I have for my stop and loved them. But I can’t wait for the finished copy to download so I can read a few more.

Part of the fun with this anthology is trying to determine which stories relate to which fairy tales. Part of it is being able to experience each of these long favored stories in a new way, with a new voice.

I don’t typically read anthologies from cover to cover, but whenever I have a few moments to spare I will definitely be picking this up and checking out one or two.

    Description…

Inspired by classic fairy tales, but with a dark and sinister twist, Grim contains short stories from some of the best voices in young adult literature today: Ellen Hopkins, Amanda Hocking, Julie Kagawa, Claudia Gray, Rachel Hawkins, Kimberly Derting, Myra McEntire, Malinda Lo, Sarah Rees-Brennan, Jackson Pearce, Christine Johnson, Jeri Smith Ready, Shaun David Hutchinson, Saundra Mitchell, Sonia Gensler, Tessa Gratton, Jon Skrovan.

    The Secret Diamond Sisters

    goodreads2

THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS by Michelle Madow will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 400 pages.

THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS is the first book in a new series by Author Michelle Madow. The second book in the series, DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH, is slated for release on October 28, 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I received an ARC for review of THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS but I also pre-ordered a copy for my Kindle to show my support for the author. It was a super quick read and a lot of fun.

As the description is very cryptic I don’t want to say too much about what happens in this book. And as I plan on writing and posting a review this week, schedule permitting, I don’t want to end up sounding too redundant.

But it was a light and entertaining read with a chance to get to know a few of the characters through a story told in multiple point’s of view. And as it’s just the first book in a series, I’m curious to see where things are headed.

    Description…

    Savannah. Courtney. Peyton.

The three sisters grew up not knowing their father and not quite catching a break. But it looks like their luck is about to change when they find out the secret identity of their long-lost dad—a billionaire Las Vegas hotel owner who wants them to come live in a gorgeous penthouse hotel suite. Suddenly the Strip’s most exclusive clubs are all-access, and with an unlimited credit card each, it should be easier than ever to fit right in. But in a town full of secrets and illusion, fitting in is nothing compared to finding out the truth about their past.

    Faking Normal

    goodreads2

FAKING NORMAL by Courtney C. Stevens will be released in the U.S. on February 25, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 336 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I have long been awaiting the release of FAKING NORMAL, ever since I first heard about it ages and ages ago. And I was so totally excited that it would be downloading to my Kindle this week until I noticed that I had apparently grabbed an eARC and could have read it already – though even if I had known, I would be just as anxiously awaiting this in its final format.

The description and this book’s title make me just so curious about what happened to Alexi and Bodee and how they are able to help each other. It promises a story that is “searing” and “poignant” which makes me even more intrigued by it. I am expecting a story with characters I will either sympathize or empathize with and possibly one that will break my heart a little.

While this next week is going to be absolutely crazy IRL, I really hope to get this on the pile during the first two weeks in March.

    Description…

An edgy, realistic, and utterly captivating novel from an exciting new voice in teen fiction.

Alexi Littrell hasn’t told anyone what happened to her over the summer. Ashamed and embarrassed, she hides in her closet and compulsively scratches the back of her neck, trying to make the outside hurt more than the inside does.

When Bodee Lennox, the quiet and awkward boy next door, comes to live with the Littrells, Alexi discovers an unlikely friend in “the Kool-Aid Kid,” who has secrets of his own. As they lean on each other for support, Alexi gives him the strength to deal with his past, and Bodee helps her find the courage to finally face the truth.

A searing, poignant book, Faking Normal is the extraordinary debut novel from an exciting new author-Courtney C. Stevens.

They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.

Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?

From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

But I’m pretty sure I’ll be grabbing books by Jessica Brody, Elizabeth Eulberg, Seth Fishman, and maybe one or two others before the week ends.

Things only get more crazy over the next month in terms of book releases, which makes me think I need to find a different way to create these posts as between researching releases, writing down my thoughts and posting all the details, they take anywhere from six to eight hours to create… more if I end up with close to ten books I’m pre-ordering.

My wallet is still not happy as I often acquire books mid-week. But at least all those charges don’t hit on one day.

I can’t wait to start reading WHITE HOT KISS by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I was hoping to get the chance to read it early, but my reading pile was just too crowded by the time I got my hands on a copy. And I can’t believe I forgot that I had an advance copy of FAKING NORMAL or I definitely would have read that pre-release.

Oh well… finished copies are always better, right?

Anyway… I hope that you get your hands on a copy of one or more of the awesome books releasing this week. There are just so many books that sound like fantastic reads that I hadn’t heard of before but I will definitely be taking a longer look at. Are any of this week’s releases new on your radar?

As always, happy bookish acquiring and reading this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
