This will definitely be one of those books I read on release date. Just check out the description below – chaos (yes), unhappily-ever-after (yes, yes), undeniable connection + wings (yes, yes, yes).

Plus, new author, new series, new characters. Add to that a deadly touch and this sounds like one killer read. Oh, and the cover for this is amazingly cool. I cannot wait for 2-22-11.

I did not discover this book or author from my participation in the 2011 DAC. Right around the time I started this blog back in November I was wandering around on Goodreads just looking for books to add to my TBR list and this one popped up. It fit in perfectly with my immortal/angel kick. Sadly it wasn’t yet released, but I’ve been stalking this on Amazon until it was available for pre-order for my Kindle.

    Goodreads description:

    Eden didn’t expect Az.

Not his saunter down the beach toward her. Not his unbelievable pick up line. Not the instant, undeniable connection. And not his wings.

    Yeah.

    So long happily-ever-after.

Now trapped between life and death, cursed to spread chaos with her every touch, Eden could be the key in the eternal struggle between heaven and hell. All because she gave her heart to one of the Fallen, an angel cast out of heaven.

She may lose everything she ever had. She may be betrayed by those she loves most. But Eden will not be a pawn in anyone else’s game. Her heart is her own.

And that’s only the beginning of the end

    Description from the author’s website:

The first four books in The Immortals series must be read prior to reading Night Star to truly understand the characters, their motivations, and the world that has been created in which Ever, Damen, Haven, Jude and Miles now exist.

They say that it’s always darkest before the dawn. But what if dawn never comes? After battling her own demons, overcoming her greatest enemy and finally being within reach of the antidote that will allow her and Damen to physically connect on the Earth plane and not just in Summerland, it is all ripped away and now Ever has a new, very dangerous enemy that threatens all that is left.

With Roman gone, Haven is on a mission. To destroy Ever. All it would take to destroy her is one hit to her weakest chakra. And the elixir she’s been taking, Roman’s elixir, is much more powerful than Ever’s. She’s more powerful than Ever. And she plans on using her strength, Ever’s doubts about Damen and her feelings for Jude to take Ever down.

Her former best friend now her immortal enemy and a dark secret from a former life revealed leave Ever vulnerable. Will she discover the truth about what’s hidden in her past and find forgiveness before it’s too late? And will she be able to save Haven from the cataclysmic path she is on and in doing so save herself and those she loves? Will her Night Star guide her out of the darkness and into the light?

Night Star sets the stage for the final book in this six-book series. It moves the plot forward, forcing Ever to confront her feelings, once-and-for-all, about Jude and to face her doubts about Damen, while building to the inevitable showdown between Ever and Haven.

The action in the initial pages immediately pulls readers back into this series, but it is short-lived. The tension and drama don’t pick up again until midway through the story, however from that point forward they escalate until the book’s conclusion.

Although necessary to introduce a new obstacle for Ever to conquer and lay the groundwork for the events to come, the first half of the story moves slowly and the conflicts that Ever is dealing with do not create the same levels of tension and anxiety that grab the reader, as they did in the previous books in the series. Ever’s continued indecision about her feelings for both Jude and Damen, which takes up a large part of the beginning of the story, also doesn’t create the same turmoil of emotion as in the earlier books.

Just past the halfway point, the characters and plot that make this series so alluring come to life. And, Ms. Noël’s further development of Miles’ character, giving him an intelligence and depth that he did not before possess, was a wonderful added element. From then on, the story will seize the reader and keep them engrossed until the very end.

Night Star is a must-read for those who are followers of The Immortals series and for readers looking for a book that is part love story, part tragedy and part adventure.

The final book in the series, Everlasting, is due out in summer 2011.
