If I Should Die

    My Reading Pile #118

I didn’t get any print books in the mail this week, though the books I traded for will be arriving on Monday. But I did get approved for a couple of awesome titles on NetGalley this week, so it’s not a completely quiet week for books.

    My-Reading-Pile-118

[Credit for mailbox sharing goes to The Story Siren]

It had been ages since I put in the request for PHANTOM EYES (Witch Eyes #3) by Scott Tracey, so I was sure I would never be approved. But when I got the OK to download it this week from Flux I was totally stoked.

And I never thought I’d get approved to read NEVER FADE (The Darkest Minds #2) by Alexandra Bracken, but thanks to the awesome folks at Disney-Hyperion I get to add this amazing book to my review pile.

And while I’d love to be able to read either one of these books this week, as both books aren’t releasing until October I won’t be adding them to the pile just yet. Of course I could go off-pile to read them….

But there are a couple books that I will be reading – that I’m dying to read – and they are…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.
    (June 16, 2013 – June 22, 2013)

    05Boundless

    addtogoodreads

First up on the pile is BOUNDLESS by Cynthia Hand. I hadn’t intended to say goodbye to this series this week, but thanks to the way the novella, RADIANT, ended, I just have to know what happens.

And I really, really want to know now. But I won’t be able to start on this week’s reads until Monday, as Novella Reading Week doesn’t end until then. But after that last line I’m so very anxious about what’s going to happen in this final book.

I tried not to listen to the chatter, but I did hear that there may have been tears involved for those who read it. Which makes me really, really nervous. Especially since the description mentions “sacrifices and betrayal” and that Clara is being watched by a fallen angel and that a battle with the Black Wings is “looming.”

I am expecting to have my heart broken in this finale. I’m positive that not everyone will survive. And I just have a feeling that the sacrifices that will have to be made are ones that will leave me in tears.

As much as I’ve been dreading saying goodbye to this series, I just have to know. I can’t wait any longer. And as soon as Monday rolls around I will be diving into this book.

    If I Should Die

    addtogoodreads

Next up on the pile is IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum. It’s actually a back on the pile read, as I’d intended to read it a few weeks ago, but ran out of time. But now that I have read Jules’ story in the novella, I’m desperate to find out what happens with him in this final book in the series.

Between everything that happened in UNTIL I DIE and what was revealed in DIE FOR HER, I am excited to find out just what happens with Kate, Vincent, Jules and the rest of the revenants.

I am almost positive that the happily ever after I’m looking for won’t be the one at the end of this book. But I’m ever the optimist. Of course it is very possible that there won’t be a happy ending at all. Not after what happened at the end of book two.

Of course, Kate is a fighter. And the description hints that she’d be willing to “risk everything” to be with Vincent. So that particular happy ending is a possibility. Right?

As much as I want to know this instant, I suppose I’ll have to read the book first…. And I plan on doing just that on Tuesday or Wednesday.

    Line_001

    Wishful Thinking Reads:

WILD CARDS by Simone Elkeles is my wishful thinking read this week. I got approved the other week and I’m just dying to meet “bad boy” Derek Fitzpatrick. I love this author’s writing and her stories with their unconventional characters. So I’m really hoping my wish can become reality if I get a bit more reading done this week than just the two books I have on hte pile.

    Line_001

    Those Left Behind:

I put five novellas on the pile last week – GLITTER & DOOM, DESTROY ME, ORIGINS: THE FIRE, DIE FOR HER and FLIRTING WITH MAYBE. I only read two of them and I’m currently reading DESTROY ME. But I have until tomorrow to finish this week’s reads and I will be reading the remaining two stories.

I ended up choosing two other novellas to read first – UNDONE and RADIANT – but it doesn’t mean those others won’t be on my “read” pile by the end of tomorrow.

Of course I haven’t yet written any reviews for the novellas, but I also plan on working on those this weekend. They’re only “Quickie” reviews so I can’t imagine not being able to wrangle my thoughts about each read fairly quickly and posting my reviews before tomorrow’s end.

I did end up setting aside PHOENIX until the challenge was over, so I’ll have to finish that this week. And I had to postpone my review for DANCE OF THE RED DEATH due to a rather crowded blog schedule this past week. But it will be up on Tuesday.

I have some extra quiet time this week, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to write my review for INDELIBLE. But if I decide not to spend it reviewing I will be reading EARTHBOUND by Aprilynne Pike.

And while I have a few review books I need to be reading, after diving into some awesome novellas this past week, I just have to continue those series. The short peeks at the worlds and characters were enough to lure me back in and make me want more, more, more.

But I will be back to the review pile next week as there are a few titles I need to read before the month’s end. But for now I’m happy to read purely for pleasure. And no, I don’t feel guilty…. Well, not that guilty.

    Line_001

    NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds:

I did end up requesting one book from NetGalley this week….

    Consume

CONSUME (The Clann #3) by Melissa Darnell (Harlequin Teen, Aug 27 2013)

I’ve read the first two books in the series and I’m curious to see what happens with Tristan and Savannah in this third book. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be approved.

But that was my only request from NetGalley this week, though I also requested a book from Edelweiss.

And, as mentioned above, I was approved for NEVER FADE by Alexandra Bracken and PHANTOM EYES by Scott Tracey, so I’m super stoked about that.

    ***

But there are a couple of other books I am really tempted to request. However, as I have so many eBooks for review right now, I’m going to wait. I just don’t know for how long….

HEREAFTER by Kate Brian (Disney Book Group, Oct 1 2013)

TIME AFTER TIME by Tamara Ireland Stone (Disney Book Group, Oct 8 2013)

THE INFINITE MOMENT OF US by Lauren Myracle (Abrams, Aug 20 2013)

TASTE TEST by Kelly Fiore (Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books, Aug 27 2013)

SICK by Tom Leveen (Abrams, Oct 1 2013)

BANISH by Nicola Marsh (Harlequin Enterprise Australia, Aug 1 2013) ***Australian Reviewers Only***

LOVE DISGUISED by Lisa Klein (Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books, Jul 30 2013)

THE WEIGHT OF WATER by Sarah Crossan (Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books, Jul 23 2013)

RED by Alison Cherry (Random House Children’s, Oct 8 2013)

TANDEM (The Many-Worlds Trilogy #1) by Anna Jarzab (Random House Children’s, Oct 8 2013)

NOT YOUR ORDINARY WOLF GIRL by Emily Pohl-Weary (Penguin Canada, Sep 24 2013)

CONTAMINATED by Em Garner (Egmont USA, Jul 23 2013)

And… there is also a CHAPTER SAMPLER from UNHINGED by A.G. Howard (Abrams, Jan 7 2014) which I did request and was approved for.

I am trying so hard not to request any more titles, though I really am interested in requesting HEREAFTER by Kate Brian and TIME AFTER TIME by Tamara Ireland Stone. I love, love, love time travel stories so I think it’s very likely I will be requesting at least that one title.

And TANDEM sounds so unbelievably good as does THE INFINITE MOMENT OF US.

I will not request any more books. I will not request any more books. I will not….

    Div01

Things are a bit up in the air with me this week. Because I have some quiet time to myself I may end up doing a little bit of writing instead of reading. Though I’m desperately in the mood to sink into a book or two or three.

My mood keeps shifting so it’s hard for me to decide upon a book to read in advance of reading it. But I’m certain I want to read the two books I have on the pile this week.

I did not expect the novellas to get me as excited about continuing the series as they did. Fortunately a few of the novellas are from series I am already caught up on. But I may end up skipping over the Throne of Glass novellas as I should wait just a little longer before diving into CROWN OF MIDNIGHT. And I just know the temptation will be too hard to resist if I start reading those short stories.

I hope to get a few more novellas read and maybe even a few of them reviewed before the end of the weekend, because I have a couple of reviews to post on the blog this week. And with a tour stop and my Novella Reading Week wrap-up posts on Monday, a giveaway and a review scheduled for Tuesday, another review set for Wednesday and my Book Watch post slated for Thursday, I don’t exactly have too many free days to try and post those Quickie Reviews.

And I really do want to spend more time reading. So, we’ll see….

As ever, I hope you had an amazing reading week, that you fell in love with a book or two, found a new “team” to cheer for and will meet one or two more this week. So, if you’d like to share what you’re planning on reading this week, what you’ve just moved off your reading pile or what amazing books you’ve received this week, leave a comment. I’d love to know.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #123

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of May 7th-May 13th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    Reboot

    addtogoodreads

REBOOT by Amy Tintera will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 384 pages.

REBOOT is the first book in a new series of the same name by author Amy Tintera. The second book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2014.

    Line_001

I am so unbelievably excited that REBOOT is releasing this week. I fell instantly in love with it the second I read the description. And I have major cover love for it, too. So, waiting for its release has been torturous.

I cannot wait to meet Wren Connolly and Callum Reyes. I can’t wait to see just how his humanity turns the “perfect soldier” into someone willing to disobey her orders. And I cannot wait to visit this intriguing world that author Amy Tintera has created.

I have avoided all reviews, but I couldn’t help but hear the tiniest bits of chatter mentioning that this book rocked. So I’m hoping that I’ll be finished with this week’s reads early enough so that I can sneak REBOOT onto the pile this week.

    Invisibility

    addtogoodreads

INVISIBILITY by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Philomel, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Line_001

I love Andrea Cremer’s writing and I am so very curious about this joint endeavor with author David Levithan. I’ve had INVISIBILITY pre-ordered since the moment I first learned of its existence and I can’t wait to check it out.

I love books that involve curses. Of course I love stories that include romance. And I can’t wait to find out if Elizabeth and Stephen discover a way to break the curse and just what sacrifice they’ll have to make in order for Stephen to “become visible.”

While I won’t get the chance to take a peek at it this month, I am hopeful of reading INVISIBILITY early next month. Because it’s been awhile since I read anything by author Andrea Cremer and I am definitely going through withdrawal.

    The 5th Wave

    addtogoodreads

THE 5th WAVE by Rick Yancey will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 480 pages.

THE 5th WAVE is the first book in a new series of the same name by author Rick Yancey. The second and third books in the series are currently untitled and slated for release in August 2014 and August 2015, respectively.

    Line_001

There has been a ton of buzz about Rick Yancey’s THE 5th WAVE, all of it positive, so I just had to pre-order it for my Kindle. Even though I haven’t read either THE PASSAGE or ENDER’S GAME, which the description compares this book to.

But any book that is billed as “epic” is one I have to check out. And when its description mentions that “only darkness remains” and “only the unlucky survive,” how could I not want to read it?

I more than want to read it. I desperately want to do so. And I’m so very hopeful of being able to meet Cassie and the “[b]eguiling and mysterious” Evan Walker in the next week or two.

    The 1st Wave…

    The 2nd Wave…

    The 3rd Wave…

    The End Games

    addtogoodreads

THE END GAMES by T. Michael will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 384 pages.

    Line_001

I cannot believe THE END GAMES is releasing this week. I had so hoped to read it early, but that didn’t happen. This book is yet another one of those books I consider must reads. It sounds so chilling and awesome.

As I’ve spotlighted it for my Book Watch post, I won’t ramble on endlessly, especially as this post is long, but I will just say that this book is one I’m so eager to dive into. I want to find out how The Game changes, how The Bellows, evolve and just what The Game Master is up to.

While I won’t get the chance to read THE END GAMES this week, there’s no way I’m going to let the month end without having read it.

    If I Should Die

    addtogoodreads

IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 416 pages.

IF I SHOULD DIE is the third, and final, book in the Revenants series by author Amy Plum.

    Line_001

After having just recently read UNTIL I DIE, I don’t think I’m more anxious for any book’s release than IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum. I absolutely love the author’s stories about the Revenants and I cannot wait to find out what happened after that killer ending.

And from reading those excerpts on the IF I SHOULD DIE Blog Tour, I am even more desperate to continue the story. Which I hope to do when my eBook downloads on Monday Midnight.

Because I want to know why Jules and Kate are in New York. I want to know what happens with the traitor. And I want to know how this series ends.

    div1

    Icons

    addtogoodreads

ICONS by Margaret Stohl will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, large print paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE. It will be available in audiobook format on July 16, 2013.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 448 pages.

ICONS is the first book in author Margaret Stohl’s new series of the same name. The second book in the series, currently untitled, is expected in 2014.

    Line_001

ICONS is another book I wanted to read before its release, but due to the umpteen books I needed to read first, it just didn’t happen. But I have ICONS pre-ordered and I will be reading it just as soon as my schedule frees up a bit.

I am so very fascinated by the first line of the description which mentions that “[y]our heart beats only with their permission.” I’m curious to find out why Dol is so different. And I’m excited to discover this world in which Earth is at the mercy of the Icons.

The description promises a story that is “heart-pounding” in a world that is “haunting” and I cannot wait to finally get the chance to discover it for myself. Something I plan to do a bit later this month.

    Fall of Night

    addtogoodreads

FALL OF NIGHT by Rachel Caine will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE. It will be available in audiobook format on May 27, 2013 at Barnes & Noble.

Published by NAL Hardcover, the print edition is 352 pages.

FALL OF NIGHT is the fourteenth book in the Morganville Vampires series. The fifteenth book, DAYLIGHTERS, is slated for release on November 5, 2013.

    Line_001

I am seriously behind on this series. But I own every single book and I do plan on catching up on it this year. Hopefully by the time the fifteenth book is released. But I have FALL OF NIGHT pre-ordered and I’m super excited to add it to my collection when it releases this week.

Although I shouldn’t have, I couldn’t help but take a peek at the description. And now I’m even more excited to get caught up. Because in this installment it seems that Claire leaves Morganville and has an entire adventure far away from this Texas town and its resident vamps.

I’m very curious about her experiments and just what happens with her human test subjects to make her question whether leaving Morganville was such a good thing.

While I won’t be reading FALL OF NIGHT in the next few months, I am so very hopeful that I’ll have gotten caught up on this series by the end of October so that when DAYLIGHTERS releases in early November I’ll be ready to dive in.

    *** NOT a YA Title***

    Dead Ever After

    addtogoodreads

DEAD EVER AFTER by Charlaine Harris will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover, audio and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Ace Hardcover, the print edition is 352 pages.

DEAD EVER AFTER is the thirteenth and final full-length book in the author’s Sookie Stackhouse series. AFTER DEAD: What Came Next in the Word of Sookie Stackhouse, is due out on October 29, 2013.

    Line_001

I’m a mix of relieved and sad to see this series end. I loved the first nine books but have fallen a bit out of love with the story for the past few installments. Though I do have DEAD EVER AFTER pre-ordered in both eBook format and a special signed edition from Barnes & Noble.

But after having the ending spoiled for me by a commentator on my other blog, I’m not sure when I will be reading this last installment. I may just pretend that this series ended with book nine.

Eric the Northman is one of my favorite vampire characters and I’ve adored Sookie for many of the books she’s been in. Even with the head-shaking decisions she’s made. And while I am a fan of the True Blood series on HBO, that series has not in any way changed my feelings about Mr. Bill Compton, [insert derogatory term here], vampire extraordinaire.

So learning, just yesterday, that the author originally planned for a different fate for him and altered that due to pressures because of that show, it has made me a little less enthusiastic toward the series. Because I would have loved for the author’s original idea to have been a part of her story.

My feelings are definitely conflicted, so I don’t plan on reading DEAD EVER AFTER until the chatter dies down. But I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to read it and find out just how the story ends for these characters I’ve known and loved for years, eventually. Even if the ending isn’t one I’d wished for Sookie.

    Mystic

    addtogoodreads

MYSTIC by Alyson Noel will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 320 pages.

MYSTIC is the third book in Alyson Noel’s Soul Seekers series. The fourth book in the series, HORIZON, is slated for release on November 19, 2013

    Line_001

I have yet to get started on Alyson Noel’s Soul Seekers series but I’ve purchased each of the books so that I eventually can read them all at once. As I’m not sure how many books are planned in the series, it might be awhile before MYSTIC ends up on my reading pile. But it will definitely be part of my collection when it downloads on Tuesday.

I very much enjoyed the author’s The Immortals series. And I thought her middle grade spin-off series was absolutely delightful. So I’m very excited about reading her latest endeavor and meeting Daire Santos.

I did take a peek at the description since I figure that by the time I do read it, I’ll have forgotten what I’ve read. And it sounds incredibly exciting. With someone’s fate hanging in the balance and someone else who plans on destroying the world and everyone Daire loves, this third book in the series sounds so very suspenseful.

Which makes me glad that I will be waiting until each of the books has released before reading them so that I won’t have to wait to continue the story.

This week is absolutely INSANE! There are just way too many amazing books releasing this week, that I have no idea how I’m going to clear them all off the pile without a reading marathon of some kind.

I am so excited for THE 5th WAVE, REBOOT, THE END GAMES, ICONS and IF I SHOULD DIE. And there are a few books that are on my radar that I haven’t yet purchased, like TREMBLE, THE S-WORD, THE ORIGINALS, CHANTRESS and THE LUCY VARIATIONS. All of which I am so very tempted by.

As this post is excessively long I just have to keep this sign-off brief. Because with nine books downloading on Monday Midnight, none of which I’ve yet read, I need to get to the books currently on pile so that I can make some room.

Besides, with all the bookish information above, I doubt you’re interested in hearing me ramble.

    So….

I hope you have some amazing titles to add to your collection this week. And I hope that if you’ve missed a few, this post has put them back on your radar.

If any of the books are ones you’ve been anxiously awaiting, I’d love to hear which ones they are! And if, for some reason, there is another book releasing this week that I’ve missed, please let me know. Because I hate missing out on awesome new releases, even if there are a ton of books already being added to my collection.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    My Reading Pile #112

The book that I was hoping would arrive in the mailbox this week did arrive. I didn’t necessarily expect that it would show up before this post, but it was in my mailbox Friday evening, so I’m totally stoked to have been able to take a snap and include it.

    My Reading Pile 112

[Credit for mailbox sharing goes to The Story Siren]

I received an ARC of THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE CURSED by Page Morgan from the publisher, Delacorte Books for Young Readers, in anticipation of a tour that I’m going to be on next week. And I’m so unbelievably excited to get it just a bit early so that I can finally meet the characters and discover for myself just how awesome this book really is.

Another Little PieceAs I wasn’t necessarily expecting anything in the mail, I found myself going a little eGalley request crazy this past week. Of course most of that was on NetGalley, while creating this post. But there were a couple titles I requested from Edelweiss, one of which was approved.

It’s a book I’ve been dying to read since I first heard about it. It sounds so eerie and unbelievably awesome. And thanks to HarperTeen via Edelweiss I have an eARC of ANOTHER LITTLE PIECE by Kate Karyus Quinn to devour.

But as I have a few books I need to read… or finish reading… first, it won’t be going on the pile this week. Even though I did start reading it the second it downloaded….

However, I do have two amazing books that I will be reading. And so…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.
    (May 5, 2013 – May 11, 2013)

    05The Beautiful and the Cursed

    addtogoodreads

First up on the pile is THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE CURSED by Page Morgan. Yes, I just received this in the mail from the publisher, Delacorte Books for Young Readers, but as I will be reading it and reviewing it for a tour stop, it goes immediately to the top of the pile.

But that’s not the only reason. I’ve heard this book is all sorts of amazing. With a fascinating storyline and swoon-worthy boys. So, yeah. It’s definitely a book that I’m super thrilled to dive into. Just as soon as I finish writing this post.

As I spotlighted it for my Book Watch post a couple weeks back and I will be reviewing it next week, I won’t say another word about it. However, if you want to take a longer look, there is a chapter sampler available thanks to Random Buzzers.

I hope to finish this book before the weekend’s over. And if it’s as awesome as it promises to be, I will definitely have finished reading it before the next book on the pile releases on Tuesday.

After a bizarre accident, Ingrid Waverly is forced to leave London with her mother and younger sister, Gabby, trading a world full of fancy dresses and society events for the unfamiliar city of Paris.

In Paris there are no grand balls or glittering parties, and, disturbingly, the house Ingrid’s twin brother, Grayson, found for them isn’t a house at all. It’s an abandoned abbey, its roof lined with stone gargoyles that could almost be mistaken for living, breathing creatures.

    And Grayson has gone missing.

No one seems to know of his whereabouts but Luc, a devastatingly handsome servant at their new home.

Ingrid is sure her twin isn’t dead—she can feel it deep in her soul—but she knows he’s in grave danger. It will be up to her and Gabby to navigate the twisted path to Grayson, a path that will lead Ingrid on a discovery of dark secrets and otherworldly truths. And she’ll learn that once they are uncovered, they can never again be buried.

    If I Should Die

    addtogoodreads

Next up on the pile is IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum. While it isn’t available yet, it will be releasing on the 7th and I’m very hopeful my pre-ordered eBook copy will have downloaded on Monday Midnight so I can find out just what happens in this next book in the series.

I only just finished reading UNTIL I DIE this past week and I cannot fathom how everyone managed to wait an entire year for this sequel’s release. That ending killed me. Everything was left up in the air. I have no idea how what happened at the end can possibly be resolved. But I’m desperate to find out.

I’m pretty sure this is the final book in the series, but I will have no problem diving into IF I SHOULD DIE when it releases. I’m so anxious to find out what happens next that it totally overshadows the fact that this might be the last book in this series.

I love all the characters in this series and cannot wait to continue their adventure in this next book. I may be partial to Jules at the moment, but I cannot wait to see how I feel at the series’ end. Which should be some time on Wednesday.

I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

    Wishful Thinking Reads:

The only books I wish I were reading right now are the ones I should have already read – PHOENIX by Elizabeth Richards and GODDESS by Josephine Angelini. I am desperate to read both those books, but for some reason other books keep getting piled on top of them.

So while I know I am going to be way too busy during the first part of the week, I am so very hopeful I will have time during the latter part of the week to read at least one of them.

Of course, for now, that remains just a wish.

    Line_001

    Those Left Behind:

I only left one of the two books from last week’s pile behind – FLICKER & BURN. I did read UNTIL I DIE but have yet to write my review. Which I’ll have to do quickly, and soon, because I am desperate to read IF I SHOULD DIE when it releases this Tuesday and I can’t do that if I haven’t reviewed the previous book.

Surprisingly, I spent quite a bit of time early this week getting reviews written. I’m still not caught up, but I’ve managed to write reviews for SWEET PERIL by Wendy Higgins, which I did end up sneaking onto the pile the other week, THE GIRL IN THE CLOCKWORK COLLAR  by Kady Cross and BLACK CITY by Elizabeth Richards.

Which means I can finally read THE GIRL WITH THE IRON TOUCH, which I started reading, and PHOENIX, which I desperately want to read. So I just have three past due reviews and one recently read review to write.

Hopefully I’ll be able to tackle two of those this week. Yes, I’m hopeful, but not wholly confident.

This is because I’ll be beta reading a book this weekend and I have my own WIP to complete. So review writing has slipped a little farther down my list of priorities. At least for the next few days, anyway.

Furthermore, I’m still in that “I’d rather be reading” mood. So, we’ll see how things ended up in next week’s MRP post.

    NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds:

I don’t know what possessed me to go searching around NetGalley during the wee hours of the morning earlier this week. Whatever it was, it made me request a book…

    Awaken

AWAKEN (Abandon #3) by Meg Cabot (Scholastic Inc., Jul 2 2013)

I couldn’t resist. I may not exactly be caught up with this series… I haven’t yet read either of the two previous books… but I own both and desperately want to read all three books back-to-back.

So when I got approved for AWAKEN I was ecstatic.

And when searching for books for this post, I may have found and requested a few others. All three are pending approval.

    Carniepunk

CARNIEPUNK by Rachel Caine, Rob Thurman, Kevin Hearne, Seanan McGuire, Jennifer Estep (Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books, Jul 23 2013)

    Hidden Marianne Curley

HIDDEN by Marianne Curley (Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books Jun 25 2013)

    Phantom Eyes

PHANTOM EYES (Witch Eyes #3) by Scott Tracey (Flux Oct 8 2013)

I’m not sure whether or not I’ll get approved for CARNIEPUNK as it isn’t a YA title, but the authors are amazing and I’m very curious about this book. It is one of the books I have pre-ordered so if I don’t get to read it for review, I will be reading it when it releases.

There are also some other really exciting books available on NetGalley this week. The first of which I’m so very tempted to request.

STRIKEFORCE (Skyship Academy #3) by Nick James (Flux, Oct 8 2013)

THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR by Dawn Klehr (Flux, Oct 8 2013)

BACKWARD GLASS by David Lomax (Flux, Nov 8 2013)

CONFESSIONS OF AN ALMOST GIRLFRIEND by Louise Rozett (Harlequin UK Limited, Jul 5 2013) **The UK edition, no restrictions**

TERMINATED (Revivalist #3) by Rachel Caine (Penguin Books Australia, Jul 24 2013) ++Not YA++ ***Australian Book Reviewers Only***

TRUE by Erin McCarthy (Penguin, Berkley, NAL/Signet Romance NAW May 7 2013) ++Not YA++

I’ve been trying for a better blog-work-life balance this past week, and I’ve been fairly successful. But sleep seems to have become the necessary sacrifice. As there’s just not room for everything.

But I’ve chosen to wake up early each morning so that I can sneak in an hour to an hour-and-a-half of reading time before I have to start my day. Which makes me oh so happy. Even if it does make me a little sleepy.

And while I haven’t yet had the chance to read all the books I’ve wanted to read as of late, at least I feel like some of those titles are nearing the top of the pile. Well, as long as I don’t heap a few more on top of them before they actually do make it to “currently reading” status.

But with my own writing and editing to do and a beta read, I have a feeling that it may be a few more weeks before I actually get to read most of them. Which saddens me just a little bit. Even though I’m totally looking forward to the beta.

    Anyway…

I hope your trip to the mailbox was happy and that the titles you received were ones you’ve been pining for. I’d love to know what they are and what you plan on reading this week. So, feel free to leave a comment if you’d like to share.

And if you do create a book haul post or one in which you share your upcoming reads, leave a link to your post so that I can check it out..

IF I SHOULD DIE Blog Tour: Excerpt + Giveaway

    IfIShouldDieban

I am so excited to be a part of this tour for IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum, organized by the very lovely Mundie Moms. I fell madly in love with the characters and this series when I first met them in DIE FOR ME back in May 2011. Yes, DIE FOR ME was one of those books that I gave my off-the-menu six-star rating I loved it that much.

I had every intention of reading UNTIL I DIE the moment it released, but when I heard that the ending was killer I decided to wait until closer to the third book’s release before I dove in. Because I did not want to have to suffer the long wait for IF I SHOULD DIE. Not when….

No… I won’t reveal what happened at the end of UNTIL I DIE. If you haven’t yet read it and you still really want to know, you can get more than a hint from reading the description below for IF I SHOULD DIE.

And yes, I am soooo glad I waited. Because I just finished reading UNTIL I DIE and having to wait until May 7th for IF I SHOULD DIE‘s release is torturous enough. Waiting just the one week to find out what happens and how this series ends is going to be agony, I cannot imagine how those readers who finished UNTIL I DIE last year survived.

Of course I am heartbroken that this series is ending. I would have loved it to go on longer than a trilogy. Even with DIE FOR HER, a novella about Jules, to keep me entertained it will not be enough.

    And….

Once again I’ve rambled on and on about a book and series I adore in a post that shouldn’t be about my thoughts. I just can’t seem to help myself. I love the Revenants. I love Kate and Vincent and Jules. I love the Parisian setting… and I’m super curious to find out just what happens with Kate and Jules in New York in IF I SHOULD DIE.

For my stop on today’s tour I have a very short excerpt, which follows immediately below, that if you spend a little too much time thinking about, your imagination will run wild. There is also some information about the book, series and author and places to find them all online.

This tour also includes an awesome giveaway, which follows just a bit further down in this post. And yes it is international.

And if you have managed to read this far into my long intro, I am offering up for giveaway, to one commentator, one of the books in the Revenants series which I’ll order from Amazon or The Book Depository. Just leave a comment with which of the books you’d like to win and I’ll throw the names into Random on May 7th and announce the winner in the comments to this post.

Oh and one last thing… if you haven’t yet had the chance to meet Vincent, last year the author provided a character profile of her swoon-worthy character for a blog tour I was on. If you’d like to check that him out, it’s here.

    The Excerpt

“Wanna take a walk?” Jules said, pushing himself up off the couch and walking toward me. “It’s my first time in New York, and if I don’t pass out from blood loss, I’d like to see a little bit. Would you do me the honor of being my tour guide?”

    “But I shouldn’t leave….,” I began.

He took my hand and pulled me toward the door.

    About the Author

Amy Plum is author of the International Bestsellers DIE FOR ME (an Indie Next List pick, Romance Times top pick, and recipient of a starred review from School Library Journal), UNTIL I DIE, and digital novella DIE FOR HER. The final book in the series, IF I SHOULD DIE, will be released in May 2013.

After being raised in Birmingham, Alabama, in a rather restrictive environment, AMY PLUM escaped to Chicago to an even more restrictive environment at a university that expelled people for dancing. (And where she was called to the dean’s office for “wearing too much black”.) After all of that restrictiveness, she was forced to run far far away, specifically to Paris, France, where she only wore black and danced all she wanted.

After five years in Paris, she ventured to London, where she got an M.A. in Medieval Art History, specializing in Early Sienese Painting (1260-1348) mainly because it promised almost no hope of finding a paying job afterward.

Amy managed to find work in the world of art and antiques in New York. But after almost a decade of high-pressure lifestyle in the Big Apple, she swapped her American city for a French village of 1300 inhabitants.

After signing with HarperCollins for the DIE FOR ME series, Amy left her job as an English professor at Tours University to write full-time. She now lives in Paris with her two kids and big red dog Ella.
