Welcome to the final day of the LOST CROW CONSPIRACY Blog Tour hosted by Rockstar Book Tours.

I am so excited to be a part of the tour and to share my thoughts about this second book in Author Rosalyn Eves’ Blood Rose Rebellion series. While I absolutely loved the first book in this series, I love, love, love LOST CROW CONSPIRACY.

And while I don’t share all the reasons why in my review – because that would be way too spoiler-y – I do list a few. So if you’d like to know what I thought, my review follows a bit further below.

If you’d like to know more about the author and each of the books in series, their information is also below – though you should definitely not read the description for LOST CROW CONSPIRACY if you haven’t yet read BLOOD ROSE REBELLION.

This tour includes a tour-wide giveaway for those with U.S. addresses. So if you want a chance to win an awesome prize, head down to the Rafflecopter for more details.

And if you’d like to check out the other stops on the tour, the schedule follows at the end of the post with direct links to all the stops.

Sixteen-year old Anna Arden was once just the magically barren girl from an elite Luminate family. Now she has broken the Binding–and Praetheria, the creatures held captive by the spell, wreak havoc across Europe. Lower-class citizens have access to magic for the first time, while other Luminates lose theirs forever. Austria and Hungary are at odds once more.

Anna thought the Praetheria were on her side, grateful to be free from the Binding. She thought her cousin Matyas’s blood sacrifice would bring peace, equality, justice. She thought her future looked like a society that would let her love a Romani boy, Gabor.

But with the Monarchy breathing down her neck and the Praetheria intimidating her at every turn, it seems the conspiracies have only just begun.

As threat of war sweeps the region, Anna quickly discovers she can’t solve everything on her own. Now there’s only one other person who might be able to save the country before war breaks out. The one person Anna was sure she’d never see again. A bandit. A fellow outlaw. A man known as the King of Crows. Matyas.

NOTE: This review is based on an ARC received from the publisher in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book. A Kindle eCopy was purchased for my collection.

    The Review

LOST CROW CONSPIRACY is everything you could want in a sequel and so much more. It is action-packed, edge-of-your-seat exciting, suspense-filled, and full of surprises. Magical beings, spell-casting and spell-breaking, hidden agendas, manipulation, betrayal, injustice, fierce battles, and a touch of romance make this installment riveting.

The story picks up shortly after the events in the first book in the series. And while things may seem to have settled down following the rebellion, the reality is quite different. The shift in magic has left many uneasy or angry. The fear of the unknown and of the praetheria has the decision-makers on edge. The now-free Hungary has caused power struggles among the countries looking to expand their empires and has presented opportunities for those looking to lead. And a new, even deadlier threat is on the horizon.

Anna thought she made the right decision when she chose to break the Binding, releasing the magic and freeing the praetheria. Even with what it cost her and with the secrets she had to keep. But her Hungary wasn’t as free as she thought it was. The beings she unleashed on the world might not be as benevolent. The Congress wasn’t as open-minded as she would have hoped. And she may have put herself in a position where she’d have to choose duty, responsibility, country over love.

Author Rosalyn Eves did not let up on the intensity in this second book in her series. She added more battles, more chases and escapes, more fascinating beings, more magical abilities, and many more threats and dangers. She continued to make a connection to the events, people, and climate of the time. She touched on issues of women’s rights and equality. She developed Anna into even more of a strong female lead.

LOST CROW CONSPIRACY is the perfect follow-up to BLOOD ROSE REBELLION. It has a faster pace. It has a whole host of new and interesting issues and characters. It advances the storyline in different and unexpected ways. It offers dual points-of-view that give a peek at very separate and distinct parts of the world. And it sets things up and teases things to come in the third installment in the series.

Thrilling, nail-biting, at times inciting, and completely all-consuming, LOST CROW CONSPIRACY is an absolute must.

The thrilling first book in a YA fantasy trilogy for fans of Red Queen. In a world where social prestige derives from a trifecta of blood, money, and magic, one girl has the ability to break the spell that holds the social order in place.

Sixteen-year-old Anna Arden is barred from society by a defect of blood. Though her family is part of the Luminate, powerful users of magic, she is Barren, unable to perform the simplest spells. Anna would do anything to belong. But her fate takes another course when, after inadvertently breaking her sister’s debutante spell—an important chance for a highborn young woman to show her prowess with magic—Anna finds herself exiled to her family’s once powerful but now crumbling native Hungary.

Her life might well be over.

In Hungary, Anna discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Not the people around her, from her aloof cousin Noémi to the fierce and handsome Romani Gábor. Not the society she’s known all her life, for discontent with the Luminate is sweeping the land. And not her lack of magic. Isolated from the only world she cares about, Anna still can’t seem to stop herself from breaking spells.

As rebellion spreads across the region, Anna’s unique ability becomes the catalyst everyone is seeking. In the company of nobles, revolutionaries, and Romani, Anna must choose: deny her unique power and cling to the life she’s always wanted, or embrace her ability and change that world forever.

BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART Blog Tour: Review, Excerpt + #Giveaway

As a huge fan of Author Amanda Hocking, I was thrilled to learn of her new book BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART and am stoked to be a part of the tour!

I also happen to love Norse mythology and think Valkyries are seriously awesome, so I couldn’t wait to read this first book in Amanda Hocking’s Valkyrie duology. And it was amazing. One of my favorites by the author. And I’m so glad the second book’s release isn’t too far away, because that ending…

So if you’d like to know what I think, my review follows below. I’m also sharing an excerpt from Chapter One if you want to meet Malin and get a peek into this incredible new world of mortals and immortals.

And if you’re in the U.S. and would like the chance to win a copy, check out the Rafflecopter below for details and to enter.

When the fate of the world is at stake
    Loyalties will be tested

Game of Thrones meets Blade Runner in this commanding new YA fantasy inspired by Norse Mythology from New York Times bestselling author Amanda Hocking.

As one of Odin’s Valkyries, Malin’s greatest responsibility is to slay immortals and return them to the underworld. But when she unearths a secret that could unravel the balance of all she knows, Malin along with her best friend and her ex-girlfriend must decide where their loyalties lie. And if helping the blue-eyed boy Asher enact his revenge is worth the risk—to the world and her heart.

Note: This review is based on an eARC received by the publisher in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book. A finished copy was purchased for my Kindle.

    The Review

BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART draws you in from its very first sentence and will keep you riveted until the story’s end. With an original and exciting world of mortals, immortals, and those somewhere in between, an interesting take on Norse myth, a fierce, flawed but immensely likable heroine, a dangerous pursuit, a question of fate versus free will, and an ending that will leave you desperately wishing for book two, it is a lightning-fast read that promises to be unputdownable.

Malin knew that the life of a Valkyrie wasn’t an easy one. Returning immortals to the underworld was challenging more often than not and even dangerous on occasion. It was also a lonely existence – the job didn’t allow for much time for friends, being hated or feared by immortals meant there weren’t many options for friends even if there was time, and not being able to fall in love made for a lot of empty and pointless relationships.

But still she couldn’t imagine becoming anything but a Valkyrie. It was in her blood. It was her destiny. She never felt more alive than when she was wielding her sword and sending the chosen immortal back to where they belonged.

She never questioned her orders. She never wondered how her assignments were chosen. She never hesitated to do her job and keep the balance. Not until things start to go wrong and she discovers that the person she trusts most has been keeping a dark secret that could change everything she believes in.

Amanda Hocking created a world that is imaginative, dark and dangerous, and utterly fascinating – where mortals and immortals live side-by-side, in a fragile balance enforced by the Valkyries. She chose a setting for the bulk of her story that is gritty and decaying and seedy and a little bit sexy. She introduced a wide variety of beings from Norse – and other – mythology and folklore.  And she gave readers characters who are captivating and intriguing and unusual and appealing.

BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART has action and romance and mystery and suspense. It has drama and heartbreak and humor and intrigue. It has heat. It has adventure. It has battles aplenty. And it has one adorable wolpertinger named Bowie. All of which make for an absolutely gripping and wildly entertaining must-read.

    Top 10 of 2017 {Sign-up + Giveaway}

    It’s that time again…

I seriously can’t believe that it’s December 1st and that after a bit of a blogging break I’m back to help celebrate the best books of the year and those I’m most looking forward to in 2018.

As always, I am so thrilled to be joining some amazing bloggers to help co-host this year’s Top 10 of 2017 – a fun-filled week where we look back at some of the best of all things books of 2017 and look ahead to what we can’t wait for in 2018 – with the incredible Jaime of Two Chicks on BooksNancy and Christy of Tales of the Ravenous Reader, Bridget of Dark Faerie Tales, and this year we are joined by Fallon of Seeing Double in Neverland and the lovely ladies at Take Me Away To A Great Read!

For the first time ever we’re stoked to announce that we have an Instagram component for the Top 10 of 2017, headed up by Bridget @DarkFaerieTales_.

And once again I would like to send out a huge thank you to our original co-hosts and creators of this event – Lisa of A Life Bound by Books and Jessica of Confessions of a Bookaholic.

This year’s sign-up giveaway – open to those who sign up for this event and participate – is for either a $25 Amazon Gift Card (US) or $25 in books from The Book Depository (for our International participants)! So be sure to leave your link in the Linky and enter in the Rafflecopter.

    The Details

The event runs for five consecutive days, the last full week of the year – Monday, December 25th to Friday, December 29th. Five days in which we share some of our favorite lists and we invite ALL of YOU to join in on the fun and share your lists with everyone too!

Each day of the event just visit one of the hosting blogs and share your list in the Linky below each day’s post. Just make sure to match up the correct post and Linky list to get credit.

    The Schedule

    Monday, December 25th

    • Best Books I’ve Read in 2017 (Doesn’t have to be released in 2017, just a book you’ve read in 2017)

    Tuesday, December 26th

    • Best Book Covers of 2017 (MUST be a book released in 2017. Would be best if it’s a book you’ve READ in 2017, but it’s not required)

    Wednesday, December 27th

    • Best ________ of 2017 (Reader’s/Blogger’s choice. Please fill in the blank with ONE of these topics – Villains, Contemporaries, Diverse Books, Dual POV’s, Novellas, Adult titles, New Adult titles, Love Triangles, Couples, Bad Boys or Debuts. REMEMBER: this list MUST be from books you’ve READ in 2017)

    Thursday, December 28th

    Friday, December 29th

    • Top 10 Books I’m looking forward to in 2018. (This list should be comprised ONLY of books releasing in 2018)

How you do these posts/lists is totally up to you. What books, covers and characters you pick are all your own.

The only rule to follow is posting the topics on the dates we’ve provided.

If you think it will be impossible to keep each list to just 10, there’s always the option of breaking the lists up. For example, creating a list for your Top 10 YA favorites and a list for your Top 10 NA favorites and a list for your Top 10 Adult favorites, etc. This is absolutely fine. You can even feel free to add in a few honorable mentions if you’re having a tough time sticking to just 10.

BUT, please try to keep it to a minimum. It totally defeats the purpose if you have 10 favorites and then 150 honorable mentions.

The goal of this event is for YOU to join in and share your lists with us and for everyone to visit as many of the other participating blogs to check out THEIR lists. It’s also to have fun – so don’t stress it too much!

The event is simple. Make note of the dates and tens list topics as provided and fill out the Linky below. This will give us an idea who will be joining us for the Top 10 week. THEN, be sure to come back to one of our blogs on each of the five days and link up your post for that specific day!

Just remember, each day will have a Linky for that Top 10 topic.

You don’t want to miss a day during the event. There might even be a few giveaways, so joining in the event, keeping up with our and everyone’s lists, just might help win you a bookish prize or two! Additional giveaway details to come, so be sure to check back to find out what we’re giving away and when!

    Grab the Button

Feel free to grab either of our event buttons – THE GRAB CODE IS BELOW EACH BUTTON IN THE SIDEBAR – and help spread the word for the event. We’d love to have anyone and everyone join us this year. The more the merrier!

Seventeen-year-old Tess Fowler has just dropped out of high school. She can barely function after learning of Jonah’s death. Jonah, the boy she’d traded banter with over texts and heartfelt e-mails.

Jonah, the first boy she’d told she loved and the first boy to say it back.

Jonah, the boy whose suicide she never saw coming.

Tess continues to write to Jonah, as a way of processing her grief and confusion. But for now she finds solace in perhaps the unlikeliest of ways: by helping her father with his new alternative funeral business, where his biggest client is . . . a prized racehorse?

As Tess’s involvement in her father’s business grows, both find comfort in the clients they serve and in each other. But love, loss, and life are so much more complicated than Tess ever thought. Especially after she receives a message that turns her life upside down.

Funny, heartbreaking, hopeful, and wondrous, in the vein of Six Feet Under and I’ll Give You the SunThings I’m Seeing Without You is a beautiful examination of what it means to love someone, to lose someone, and to love again.

Note: This review is based on an ARC received from the publisher in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book. A Kindle eCopy was purchased for my collection.

    The Review

THINGS I’M SEEING WITHOUT YOU is thoughtful and heartbreaking and amusing and melancholy, and more than a little bit romantic, all at once. It’s a story about life and death, love and loss, about finding a way to let go, and about figuring out how to keep going. And while there are a number of heavy issues, they are lightened through humor, celebration, and ideas that will make readers think.

Tess couldn’t deal with the loss of her long-distance boyfriend Jonah. So she ditched school and went to live with her Dad who wasn’t exactly her favorite person in the world. Not after he spent her college fund and had no real way to earn the money back.

But better her Dad than trying to cope with school, her roommate, her recently enlightened mother – even if it meant she’d be tasked with helping him out with his latest scheme.

And when she discovers something about her relationship with Jonah, something that changes everything she thought she knew and felt, having something else to focus on, like planning a pre-death funeral party for a former burlesque dancer, might just be enough of a distraction to keep her from feeling totally devastated.

Peter Bognanni created a main character in Tess who has a tough exterior but who is also emotionally fragile. She is grief stricken, shocked, hurt and angry. She’s in pain but she has not given up, no matter how much life threw at her. And she is blunt and to the point, but can also be kind and caring.

The author gives readers a lot of food for thought about how to best honor someone’s life and their memory. He touches upon issues involving family, friendship, depression, sorrow, deceit, betrayal. And he creates a love story that is challenging and complicated, yet sweet.

THINGS I’M SEEING WITHOUT YOU is a beautiful and moving story, peppered with moments that can’t help but make you laugh or smile. It offers an adventure, a secret, a disturbing mishap, a couple of absentee parents, an eye-opening funeral, and a love story whose outcome is not set in stone. And for those looking for a read that is contemplative and gorgeous and original, it is a must.

An unlikely teenager starts a feminist revolution at a small-town Texan high school in the new novel from Jennifer Mathieu, author of The Truth About Alice.

Vivan Carter is fed up. Fed up with a school administration at her high school that thinks the football team can do no wrong. Fed up with sexist dress codes, hallway harassment, and gross comments from guys during class. But most of all, Viv Carter is fed up with always following the rules.

Viv’s mom was a tough-as-nails, punk rock Riot Grrrl in the 90’s, and now Viv takes a page from her mother’s past and creates a feminist zine that she distributes anonymously to her classmates. She’s just blowing off steam, but other girls respond. As Viv forges friendships with other young women across the divides of cliques and popularity rankings, she realizes that what she has started is nothing short of a girl revolution.

Moxie is a book about high school life that will make you wanna riot!

Note: This review is based on an ARC received from the publisher in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book. A Kindle eCopy was purchased for my collection.

    The Review

MOXIE is an empowering and fierce and wildly entertaining read that will make you want to cheer for Grrrl Power! With a heroine who grows stronger as the story progresses, to the new girl who is anxious to join the fight, to the group of girls who are sick of the injustice, to their classmates who stand ready to rally behind them, Jennifer Mathieu’s new novel is exciting and uplifting and powerful and motivating.

For years, Vivian Carter stayed under the radar at East Rockport High. She accepted the status quo so long as it meant the spotlight wouldn’t be on her. It’s not like she could change anything in her small town where football is everything. She just needs to do her time and hope that in college things will be different.

But when Mitchell Wilson tells yet another girl to make him a sandwich, she can’t help but cringe. When her grandparents remind her just how “dutiful” she is compared to her rebellious mother, it chafes. And when another member of the football team gets a pass for wearing an offensive t-shirt but the girls in her class get called out for dress code violations, she can no longer keep quiet.

She has to fight back. And she hopes that she’s not the only one with enough moxie to stand up for what is right and stand against those who think inequality is okay.

Author Jennifer Mathieu penned a novel that is as informative and encouraging as it is captivating and heartwarming. Through her story she points out inequality, unfairness, misperceptions, and the imbalance in treatment of the sexes. She shares a more positive view of what feminism is. And she does so in a way that will open readers’ eyes and keep them open.

Her heroine, Viv, isn’t perfect and isn’t always brave, but she is conscientious, open-minded, learns from her mistakes, gains strength from the courage she instills in others, and is willing to let others lead so that they too can find their strength. And by the story’s end she becomes someone you’d be ready to go into battle with side-by-side.

MOXIE is not just an important story for girls of any age – it’s an important story for all readers. It is a call to action. It is a reminder that bias and sexism still exist. It shows us that girls do have power and can make a difference when they act together instead of against one another.

And with a cool zine (don’t call it a newsletter), a late night copy store worker who can keep a secret, a cute boy who is not afraid of a strong and rebellious girl, and a battle cry – MOXIE GIRLS FIGHT BACK! – this is an absolutely, positively, definitely must read.

“I would say it’s a pleasure to meet thee, Prosperity Oceanus Redding, but truly, I only anticipate the delights of destroying thy happiness….”

Prosper is the only unexceptional Redding in his old and storied family history—that is, until he discovers the demon living inside him. Turns out Prosper’s great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather made—and then broke—a contract with a malefactor, a demon who exchanges fortune for eternal servitude. And, weirdly enough, eight-hundred-year-old Alastor isn’t exactly the forgiving type.

The fiend has reawakened with one purpose–to destroy the family whose success he ensured and who then betrayed him. With only days to break the curse and banish Alastor back to the demon realm, Prosper is playing unwilling host to the fiend, who delights in tormenting him with nasty insults and constant attempts to trick him into a contract. Yeah, Prosper will take his afterlife without a side of eternal servitude, thanks. But with the help of his long-lost uncle, Barnabas, and his daughter, Nell, a witch-in-training, it seems like Prosper has at least a fighting chance of ridding himself of Alastor before the demon escapes and wreaks havoc on his family.

Little does Prosper know, the malefactor’s control over his body grows stronger with each passing night and there’s a lot Alastor isn’t telling his dim-witted (but admittedly strong-willed) human host…

From #1 New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken comes a tale of betrayal and revenge, of old hurts passed down from generation to generation.  Can you ever fully right a wrong, ever truly escape your history? Or will Prosper and Alastor be doomed to repeat it?
