FALLING KINGDOMS Series Promo: My Favorite Kingdoms + Giveaway

    FallingKingdoms-CoverImage-2

I have owned every single one of the three currently available Falling Kingdoms books since their respective release dates but have only recently had the chance to embark upon the adventure. And all I can say is, “What have I been waiting for?”

Because… OH. MY. GOSH. I am in LOVE with this series!!!!!

I fell in love from the very first line in FALLING KINGDOMS:

    She’d never killed before tonight.

Talk about great first lines. It was instalove for me. And that love has grown exponentially as I’ve continued to read.

I will be all caught up by the time my pre-order copy of FROZEN TIDES downloads to my Kindle on December 15th. Of course that means I’ll have to suffer the agonizing wait for the final two books in the series. But it will be so worth the wait.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to discover this seriously amazing series, you can check it out on PENGUIN RANDOM HOUSE and on GOODREADS or visit the series WEBSITE.

Details on each of the books in the series are also below. And there are also links to connect with the author.

    My Favorite Kingdoms

For this promo post in anticipation of FROZEN TIDES’ release we were asked to talk about which kingdom(s), region(s), or world(s) we would conquer, rule, or live in as a merchant. Here are just a few.

    Kingdoms/Worlds I’d Conquer

The Winter Realm – a.k.a. The Unseelie Court from Julie Kagawa’s IRON FEY series. The Unseelie have always been the most interesting of the fae and I would love to take Queen Mab’s place and rule in her stead. And, hey, someone has to take Queen Mab down, why not me?

The Kingdom of Spring – one of the kingdoms from Sara Raasch’s SNOW LIKE ASHES series. Spring has caused so much trouble for the Winterians. I’d love to conquer it just ensure that its former king does not try to take power again.

    Kingdoms/Worlds I’d Rule

Auranos – from Morgan Rhodes’ FALLING KINGDOMS series. While I might change my mind as I continue my journey with these books, I’d love to rule the kingdom that has the most resources and best climate. And yes they have enemies. But I’d like to think I’d have been a smarter and more fair ruler and thus avoided some of the enmity.

Cane – from WINTERSPELL by Claire Legrand. It was and could be again a beautiful and magical place. I suppose first I’d have to have taken it from Anise, but I wouldn’t just want to conquer, I’d definitely want to rule this land.

    Kingdoms/Worlds I’d Live In

Lothlórien – one of the Elven kingdoms from LORD OF THE RINGS by J.R.R. Tolkein. Though I’d be happy to have lived in any of the Elven kingdoms, even though they fell eventually.

Gilead – from THE DARK TOWER series by Stephen King. This is not a kingdom. But this world that Roland lived in is one I would have loved to have lived in. It, too, fell. But living there when Roland did would have been amazing.

    ***

Of course I’d love to live in almost all of the fictional faerie worlds I’ve read about and even be ruler of one or two – Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series comes to mind. I’d live in any of those faerie courts.

I would love to conquer the more evil kingdoms and vanquish their rulers in any of the fantasy novels I’ve read – Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes series, Rae Carson’s Fire & Thorns series, Josephine Angelini’s Worldwalker trilogy.

And I’d love to visit any number of worlds or kingdoms, even if I were forced to be just a merchant – The Elemental Trilogy by Sherry Thomas, The Witch Hunter by Virginia Boecker, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, and the Defiance series by C.J. Redwine.

    How about you?

What are your favorite worlds or kingdoms? Would you want to be a ruler, risking your life at every moment to keep your kingdom safe? Or would you prefer to visit or live in one of the kingdoms you’re most curious about? Or are you all about conquering kingdoms to increase your power or to oust an unjust ruler?

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #102

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of December 11th-December 17th that I have pre-ordered.

FORETOLD by Jana Oliver will be released in the U.S. on December 11, 2012, in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 352 pages.

FORETOLD is the fourth and final book in author Jana Oliver’s The Demon Trappers series.

    ***

I cannot believe I hadn’t spotlighted FORETOLD for my book watch post last month. I knew that its release date was on December 11th and I had it pre-ordered for ages and ages. Yet it somehow fell off my radar. I blame NaNoWriMo and Thanksgiving.

I cannot believe that this is finally available here in the U.S…. well, just about here. I almost caved and purchased the UK edition from Amazon just to get the chance to read it early. But I didn’t. Because it’s the series-ending book and I knew I’d be just a little bit devastated that the series was coming to a close.

As it is releasing this week I finally took a peek at the description – I couldn’t bear to do it earlier for fear of suffering an even more torturous wait than I already was. And oh my gosh I can’t wait to read this book.

I’m absolutely dying to find out how things end with Riley and Beck. To see if they do finally get their HEA, especially after what happened in the previous two books in the series.

I am so hopeful that things do end happily for them and that Riley is able to defeat Sartael when he takes on Lucifer. My fingers are definitely crossed. For her. For Beck. For Atlanta. For all of humanity.

I have a feeling that this book won’t meet the same fate as most of the series-ending books I encounter. And I also have the feeling that this will be on my reading pile this week.

FALLING KINGDOMS by Morgan Rhodes will be released in the U.S. on December 11, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 400 pages.

FALLING KINGDOMS is the first book in a series of the same name. The sequel, REBEL SPRING, is slated for release in 2013.

    ***

FALLING KINGDOMS is another book I pre-ordered ages ago. And I can’t wait until it downloads this week. Of course I recently discovered that I had an ARC and could have read it even sooner.

But I’m so excited to finally have this book in my collection. The story sounds amazing and I can’t wait to meet Cleo, Jonas, Lucia and Magnus. As I’ve already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post just a few weeks ago, I won’t go on and on and on here.

Though I will just say that I can’t wait to see which of the three kingdoms ends up victorious and which kingdoms fall. And I am so excited to take this magical journey with the characters as they prepare for battle and to see just how their fates are “forever intertwined.”

This book sounds utterly riveting and I am super thrilled to be able to add this to my permanent collection. I hope to get the chance to read it over the holidays.

SHADOW DAYS by Andrea Cremer will be released in the U.S. on December 10, 2012 in eBook format only. It is currently available to pre-order online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The eBook Novella is published by Penguin.

SHADOW DAYS is a prequel novella in author Andrea Cremer’s Nightshade series.

    ***

I can’t believe I missed mentioning SHADOW DAYS last week, as its release date is December 10th. But as it hasn’t yet downloaded to my Kindle I’m technically not too late to include it with this week’s releases.

I can’t wait to read this novella told from Shay’s perspective and learn just what his life was like in his uncle’s mansion. I’m so curious to see just what the author reveals about this place “where gargoyles seem to move” and “magic seems real.” I hope it’s every bit as amazing as it sounds.

And I am so super excited that it will be in my collection on Monday.

    UPDATED to add…

    Opal cover 500px

OPAL by Jennifer L. Armentrout will be released in the U.S. on December 11, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Entangled Teen, the print edition is 452 pages.

OPAL is the third book in the author’s Lux series. ORIGIN, the fourth book in the series is slated for release in July 2013, and the fifth book, as yet untitled, is also slated for release in 2013.

    ***

I cannot believe I forgot to add OPAL to my list of releases this week. I suppose it’s because as an eBook junkie it downloaded for me on December 3rd and it wasn’t listed in my pre-orders when creating this post. Which is why I really should do as Parajunkee suggests and create an editorial calendar….

Anyway, I am so excited to read this next book in the series and find out just what happens with Katy and Daemon. Especially now that a certain character has made an appearance in the series. One I won’t reveal as I am trying so very hard not to spoil things.

But after what happened in ONYX I am desperate to find out how things progress. The description talks of secret organizations and friends who have become enemies. It also promises a potential world-shattering outcome.

I already started to read OPAL when it released for the Kindle last week, but as I accidentally read the last sentence in the book and spoiled things for myself, I’m waiting until I forget it enough so that I’m not dying with each and every page I read. But I’m thinking I’ll pick this one up over the holiday weekend at the end of the month. I can’t resist Daemon for too long.

    END of update.

Princess of the Silver Woods (Princess #3) by Jessica Day George

    Publisher: Bloomsbury USA Childrens

It may be a quiet week for releases but it’s a seriously AWESOME week. FORETOLD is a book I’ve been waiting for since the moment I started reading the series and I don’t know how I’ll be able to refrain from diving into it the second it downloads on my Kindle.

And FALLING KINGDOMS sounds totally epic. I can’t wait to get lost amidst the battles and “betrayals.”

Hopefully next week is quiet too, as I’d love to be able to tackle a few new releases before the year ends so that I could potentially count them among my favorites for the year.

But we shall see. All I know is that there are a number of books releasing on the 26th and in early January, so my plate is most definitely full.

I just hope I didn’t miss anything releasing this week that’s an absolute must have.

    Anyway…

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    Book Watch: Falling Kingdoms

FALLING KINGDOMS by Morgan Rhodes will be released in the U.S. on December 11, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 400 pages.

FALLING KINGDOMS is the first book in a new series of the same name. The second book in the series, REBEL SPRING, is slated for release in 2013.

    ***

I hadn’t heard much about this new book by Morgan Rhodes (a.k.a. Michelle Rowen) until I checked its description out on Goodreads. And when I did… Oh. My. Gosh. It sounded absolutely amazing! I may even have gotten a chill or two while reading the description. So of course I had to pre-order it. And of course I had to make FALLING KINGDOMS the book to watch this week.

This may be classified as high or epic fantasy. But to me this book just sounds epic. As if “betrayals, bargains, and battles” weren’t enough to entice me to read this book, there’s a princess, a rebel, a girl with a supernatural legacy and a boy “bred for aggression.”

I cannot WAIT to meet Cleo, Jonas, Lucia and Magnus and find out how all their paths cross and how their fates are “forever intertwined.” Each character sounds so very different and I’m excited to meet them all to see who my favorites will be.

The description and book’s title promises that kingdoms will fall. I am so super anxious to see just how that happens. I’m sure there will be nail-biting suspense a plenty in this book and that the battles will be every bit as action-packed as I anticipate they will be.

I’m so glad that I hadn’t heard about this book too early or the wait for FALLING KINGDOMS would have been way too torturous. But now that release date is almost here, I can’t wait to add this book to the top of the pile.

With three kingdoms “grappling for power” in a land where magic has been forgotten and “deadly unrest is simmering” and four wicked awesome characters to meet, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that FALLING KINGDOMS deserves the spotlight and is the book to watch for the week of December 11th.
