Authors Are Rockstars Tour Kicks Off + Giveaway

    kick-off

We are so unbelievably thrilled to kick off the first day of the 2nd Annual Authors Are Rockstars Tour here on our blogs Fiktshun, Two Chicks on Books and Magical Urban Fantasy Reads.

This year’s event is even more packed full of awesome than last year’s event, with 166 authors on tour throughout the month of August. We’re super excited to welcome back many of last year’s favorites and get a chance to put a number of new participants in the spotlight.

The tour will officially begin in three hours where we’ll be hosting the first of our authors – Rachel Vincent (at Fiktshun), Page Morgan (at Two Chicks on Books) and Andrea Cremer (at Magical Urban Fantasy Reads).

As these three authors are some of our very most favorites, we are incredibly honored to be able to host them on our blogs and share with our readers just why we think they’re rockstars.

When we kicked off the event last year we had just 96 participating authors, but by the tour’s end we had 102. So it’s still possible that there may be some new adds along the way again this year.

Most days will have either five or six authors being hosted. Some days even have seven. Only the first and last days of the month will spotlight just three authors on our blogs.

If you’d like to check out the full schedule, CLICK HERE or click the button in the sidebar.

The month will feature some amazing guest posts and interviews by the rockstar authors on tour. Some blog hosts will even be sharing reviews along with their posts. There are also a number of awesome giveaways being hosted thanks to the authors, publishers or blog hosts. So you won’t want to miss any of the stops on tour this month.

At every stop the blog host will be talking a little bit about why they think their author is a rockstar and we can’t wait to find out just what they have to say. While we get a chance to peek at most of the authors’ posts, what the bloggers say will be a complete surprise.

Once again the generosity of the amazing team at Harlequin Teen is astounding. And we cannot thank them enough for supporting every single one of their authors on this tour.

We are also so very grateful to each of the authors who have donated their time to be a part of this event. Without them we wouldn’t even have an event. And we want to give an extra thanks to those who have offered up something for giveaway as it is above and beyond anything we’d asked for.

And last, but definitely not least, we want to thank the bloggers who will be hosting the authors throughout the month. Their participation in this event is an integral part of why this is such a success and we are so very honored that they’ve signed up to be a part of our tour.

But in order to kick this event off right we are once again hosting a few month-long giveaways. This year, however, we’ve decided to host each of the giveaways on our respective sites. So if you want to enter to win what’s up for grabs by Two Chicks on Books and Magical Urban Fantasy Reads, you’ll have to check out their kick-off posts.

But to give just a tease of what Jaime at Two Chicks on Books is offering, think late summer/early fall ARCs. And yes, there will be swag. You can check out her giveaway, HERE.

Mindy of Magical Urban Fantasy Reads also has some amazing ARCs for giveaway. To check out what she has up for grabs, CLICK HERE.

And if you want to know what I have for giveaway… well… just keep scrolling down for the pics and the deets.

Thank you so much for stopping by to help kick off the 2nd Annual Authors Are Rockstars Tour. If you’re looking to check out the first three authors on tour be sure to come back at Midnight, Pacific!

    Novella Reading Week Wraps Up!

    NRW_400

Novella Reading Week has ended. Wow that went fast! I’d been debating making it a two-week event, but it seems that one week was the perfect length in order to get a few of those novellas read and not cause too much of a backup for those review books.

And I cannot thank Mindy of Magical Urban Fantasy Reads enough for co-hosting this event with me. It was nice to know that even if no one else took part in the challenge this past week, she was joining me in my quest to clear a few novellas off my TBR pile.

But she wasn’t the only one participating in Novella Reading Week! I am totally stoked that there were so many awesome readers joining us this past week. And I cannot wait to check out each and every one of the reviews.

Mindy and I will be gathering all the participants entries – from the Linky List and from the comments on our posts – and we’ll throw them into Random to choose the winners, which will be announced in our Novella Reading Week Begins posts on Tuesday.

I hope that you got a few novellas cleared off your piles and that at the one, or ones, you did read made it worth your while. And I can’t thank you all enough for joining this event and for sharing your thoughts about those novellas you did read.

    div4

    My Novella Reading Week…

While I didn’t get every novella read that I wanted to read, I did reach my goal of reading seven novellas for this challenge. I’d originally chosen five books to read for the challenge, but decided to aim for seven and I managed to read them all.

Though I would have liked to read the other five novellas I’d earmarked, I wouldn’t have been able to read all those stories and have any time left over to write reviews. So I stuck with just my seven initial picks.

And while I only posted reviews for four of the novellas I read, I did end up writing six reviews before the challenge officially ended and hope to finish writing the last one momentarily. The three remaining reviews will be posted on Tuesday and Wednesday as I have a blog tour scheduled for today.

The novellas I read for the challenge were…

UNDONE (Unbreakable #1.5) by Elizabeth Norris. (Review)

GLITTER & DOOM (Masque of the Red Death #1.5) by Bethany Griffin. (Review to post Tuesday)

DIE FOR HER (Die for Me #2.5) by Amy Plum. (Review)

RADIANT (Unearthly #2.5) by Cynthia Hand. (Review)

DESTROY ME (Shatter Me #1.5) by Tahereh Mafi. (Review in progress)

FLIRTING WITH MAYBE by Wendy Higgins (Review to post Wednesday)

ORIGINS: THE FIRE (Mila 2.0 #0.5) by Debra Driza. (Review)

So while it wasn’t a complete success, I do consider this past week a success. I read seven novellas I’ve been wanting to read – some for quite some time. I managed to fall in love with some of my favorite series all over again. And reading a couple of the novellas gave me the push I needed to finally be willing to say goodbye to those series. Which, for me, is a win.

    div4

    Your Novella Reading Week…

But enough about me. What about your novella reading week?

Did you read all the novellas you wanted to read this week? Did you read more than you’d planned? Or did you read fewer than anticipated?

Were the novellas you did read ones that you absolutely adored or were some more of a miss than a hit?

And, whether you read one or twenty-one, do you consider this a successful novella reading week for you?

If you’d like to share your thoughts, I’d love to know!

    Quickie Review: Undone

    Undone

    addtogoodreads

UNDONE by Elizabeth Norris was released in the U.S. on March 5, 2013 in eBook format only. It is currently available to order online at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the story is 105 pages.

UNDONE is a novella in the author’s Unravelling series set between the first and second books.

    Line_001

    Description…

Before the accident. Before their universes collided. Before they fell in love.

Riveting and romantic, Undone: An Unraveling Novella contains three short stories set in the world of Unraveling, the first book in the gripping sci-fi duology by Elizabeth Norris.

Before Ben Michaels saved Janelle Tenner’s life, Janelle saved Ben when he stumbled through an interuniverse portal into a completely new world. That day, he fell in love with the girl of his dreams. And he never forgot her.

Through three stories told from Ben’s point of view, learn how Ben and his friends discovered their ability to travel between worlds, how Ben first met Janelle, and how he pined for her for years before he actually got the chance to meet her, save her life, and capture her heart. And find out what happens to Ben between the cliff-hanger conclusion to Unraveling and the beginning of its heart-stopping sequel, Unbreakable.

    Line_001

UNDONE is an exciting, fast-paced novella told from Ben Michaels’ perspective that bridges the gap between the events that took place in book one, UNRAVELING, and those that take place in UNBREAKABLE, the final book in the series.

The story also gives readers a quick peek at events in Ben’s life that took place prior to the start of UNRAVELING up through everything that readers had experienced through Janelle’s eyes in that book.

While much of the earlier part of the story had already been revealed, UNDONE let’s readers see just how Ben felt about those things that happened, how he reacted and just how important Janelle was to him.

The beginning of the story jumps rather quickly from moment to moment, only allowing for a glimpse, but the pace slows a bit to allow readers to connect to the new events, those exclusive to this novella.

Where the first part of the story offers a heartwarming and heartbreaking look at Ben’s life, the latter part of the story adds excitement and suspense to the mix. It introduces new characters, reveals that not all is as was expected for Ben and Eli, and sets the stage for things to come.

For those that read this story in sequence, the ending leaves off at a place in the story that will make them anxious to find out what happens next. For those that read it after both full-length novels, while there won’t be that same level of anticipation, it may just prompt a re-read of that next book.

UNDONE is a must for those that want to take a longer look at the world, to find out exactly what happened with Ben and Eli before Janelle’s arrival, or to get to know a little bit more about Ben – his feelings about Janelle, his attempts to return home, and his reasons for what he did after he got there.

And for those that wish to continue the story for just a little bit longer, this eNovella also includes a short two-chapter sneak peek at UNBREAKABLE.

    On a personal note…

I am always a fan of getting to see a story from another charcter’s POV. And I loved getting to experience this story through Ben’s eyes. Even if it was only a brief peek.

As I did read this out of sequence, there wasn’t quite the same tension build as there would have been had I not already read the series to its conclusion. But I still enjoyed getting to see what was going on with Ben during the time that led up to everything that happened in UNBREAKABLE.

Of course my favorite part of this novella was seeing what Ben thought of Janelle from the moment they’d first met. Yes, I may have swooned once or twice. And I loved getting to know what was happening with him during those moments from UNRAVELING as seen from Janelle’s POV.

And yes, reading the novella made me want to re-read UNRAVELING so I could match up those previously revealed moments with what I now know about Ben.

UNBREAKABLE Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

    Unbreakable-BT-Banner

I am totally psyched to be the final stop on the UNBREAKABLE Blog Tour and to be able to have the book’s amazing author, Elizabeth Norris, stop by and share a little bit about her writing process and the top ten songs she listened to while writing the Unraveling series.

As a newbie to this series – I’d only discovered UNRAVELING last fall – I am so excited to be a part of this tour and to have met her awesome characters – Janelle, Barclay, Ben, Alex, Elijah, Cecily, Struz, Janelle’s Dad and Jared. (Yes, I only listed the ones I was happy to meet. Sorry Reid!) And I’m so sad that this series has ended and that I won’t get to take another journey with them through the multiverse.

I could totally fall in love with interverse travel. Especially if I was stepping through the portals with someone like Interverse Agent Taylor Barclay. Yes, he’s awesome. If you haven’t yet met him, especially in UNBREAKABLE, be sure to check out Two Chicks on Books’ tour stop to learn just a little bit more about him.

I am a huge fan of this author and her series. And I have no idea how she writes at her “standing desk.” But clearly it works. Because this series is amazing! If you’d like to see what I thought of each of the books, here are my reviews – UNRAVELING, UNBREAKABLE.

But if you’d like to see what the author was listening to while she wrote those amazing, heartbreaking, swoon-worthy scenes, check out the guest post below. (Yes, I couldn’t resist embedding the YouTube videos.)

And if you haven’t yet entered the awesome giveaway that’s included as part of this tour, be sure to enter in the Rafflecopter which is just below that.

Now his family has been imprisoned and will be executed if Ben doesn’t turn himself over within five days.

And when Janelle learns that someone she cares about—someone from her own world—has become one of the missing, she knows that she has to help Barclay, regardless of the danger. Now Janelle has five days to track down the real culprit. Five days to locate the missing people before they’re lost forever. Five days to reunite with the boy who stole her heart. Can she uncover the truth before everyone she cares about is killed?

    GUEST POST
    On My Writing Process

I don’t need much to write. I can get pretty absorbed in what I’m doing and tune out everyone else—it’s a skill I’ve had since childhood. (My parents complained that I tuned them out quite a lot.)

Sometimes I’ll write in a notebook while I’m on the subway, or I’ve typed scenes into my iPhone, or I’ve managed to jot down notes or dialogue on the back of receipts or bills or random papers that were stuffed in my purse.

Obviously though, I do most of my writing on a computer (my editor is thankful for that).

I don’t have a desk, though. As a result, I’ve written chapters sitting on my couch or at my kitchen table, or at a coffee shop down the street. Recently though, I’ve turned my kitchen island into a standing desk.

    E Norris 1

I have a romantic picture saved to my desktop to get me in the mood.

    E Norris 2

I’ve gotten really attached to Scrivener in the last year after the fantastic Erin Bowman did a vlog explaining how it works. I especially love the outline feature, which helps me keep myself on task for a scene. (I have a tendency to wander and write much too long.) And I’m a huge fan of how many different things you can clip into the binder: pictures of characters, settings, inspirational images, etc. It all goes into the project.

    E Norris 3

But the number one thing I need most in order to write, in fact, I suppose the only thing I really need to write is music.

Here are the top ten songs that I listened to while writing the Unraveling series.

    Top Ten Songs

    10. “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele. There’s a lot of different ways to interpret this song, but to me it’s about standing up and doing something impossible when you’re at your lowest point. And what else can I say? Adele could save the world with her voice alone. She’s amazing.

    div3

    9. “With Every Heartbeat” by Robyn. This is a Ben/Janelle song. The title of the book is Unraveling because it’s really about Janelle unraveling a number of different mysteries and one of them is the mystery of Ben.

    div3

    8. “Only if for a Night” by Florence + the Machine. I’m a huge Florence + the Machine fan, and I love the lines in this song: “You’re the only life/Only if for a night.”

    div3

    7. “Untitled” by Simple Plan. This is a Ben song. For seven years prior to the books, there have been a lot of things that he blamed himself for and it just keeps getting worse.

    div3

    6. “Stay With You” by Goo Goo Dolls. This song I listened to a lot (on repeat) when I wrote emotional scenes in the series. It’s another Ben/Janelle song.

    div3

    5. “Blackout” by Breathe Carolina. This song is so upbeat and I played it a lot whenever I had to write something that was fast paced. It also made this chapter in Unbreakable happen: 03:11:05:00.

    div3

    4. “Stay” by Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko. This song wasn’t out until I was editing and writing Undone but it’s a definite Ben/Janelle. Especially in the very last scene of Unbreakable.

    div3

    3. “All I Need” by Within Temptation. This Ben/Janelle song became my makeout song whenever I needed a makeout moment, I listened to this. Here’s why.

    div3

    2. “Already Gone” by Kelly Clarkson. There’s a line in the beginning of this song, “We were always meant to say goodbye.” That’s sort of how I always envisioned Ben and Janelle—they have so much stacked up against them.  Plus, I love how heartbreaking this song is.

    div3

    1. “We Are Broken” by Paramore. I’m a huge Paramore fan in general, but this is one of my favorite songs. I love the piano, the sort of haunting tone to the music, and of course I love Hayley Williams’ voice. But it’s the lyrics that really stuck with me while I was writing Unravelling. This is the song that inspired one of the big plot twists in the novel.

UNBREAKABLE by Elizabeth Norris was released in the U.S. on April 23, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins, the print edition is 496 pages.

UNBREAKABLE is the second and final full-length book in the Unraveling series by author Elizabeth Norris.

    div5 Description…

Four months after Ben disappeared through the portal to his home universe, Janelle believes she’ll never see him again. Her world is still devastated, but life is finally starting to resume some kind of normalcy. Until Interverse Agent Taylor Barclay shows up. Somebody from an alternate universe is running a human trafficking ring, kidnapping people and selling them on different Earths—and Ben is the prime suspect.

But as the clues begin to add up, Janelle realizes that she’s in way over her head—and that she may not have known Ben as well as she thought. Can she uncover the truth before everyone she cares about is killed?

    div5

UNBREAKABLE is the intense, action-packed and bittersweet conclusion to this stunning two book series that takes readers on an exciting and harrowing journey through multiple universes to solve a mystery, to stop a criminal enterprise, to stay an execution and to save someone whose life is in peril. It is a journey that is filled with danger and suspense. One with a ticking clock. And one that not everyone will survive.

In the aftermath of the catastrophic events that left Janelle Tenner’s life and universe devastated, she is trying to pick up the pieces and move on. But with so much lost and so much she blames herself for, finding a way to do more than survive hasn’t been easy. Especially with a broken heart.

But when more and more people go missing in the wake of the disaster that left her world in shambles, including someone she cares about, she can’t just sit on the sidelines. Even if it means partnering with Agent Taylor Barclay in order to find them and find answers.

And when she discovers the truth about their disappearances and that Ben is being accused, as dangerous as it may be for her to get involved and to put her trust in Barclay, it’s a risk she’s willing to take. Because all they have are just five days. To find out the truth. To solve the crime. To prove his innocence. And even with her help it may not be enough and they may run out of time.

Elizabeth Norris wrote a sequel that is every bit as tension-filled as the first book in her series. While a much different story than the first, UNBREAKABLE has all the elements that made UNRAVELING an exciting and riveting read – a strong main character, a thrilling storyline full of surprises and nail-biting suspense, a captivating mystery and crushing heartbreak.

But the author takes readers on a much different adventure, develops a character whose role hadn’t previously been as significant and creates a new dynamic between two of her characters. All of which come together in a story that feels at once familiar and refreshingly different, a story that is gripping and that will keep readers on the edge of their seats as the clock once again counts down.

With its fast pace, action that is daring and danger-filled, a plot that twists and turns, characters that are incredibly appealing and a love story that is both sad and sweet, UNBREAKABLE is an outstanding must-read conclusion to this amazing series.

    Reviewer gives this book…

    Rate05 On a personal note…

There are a million and one things I want to talk about. Most of which I can’t without ruining everything. I almost wish I waited until this book had been out for months before reading it so I could be a bit more revealing about why I’m torn into shreds by what happened in this book.

I loved this follow-up. In some ways I loved it more than the first book. Okay… well… one way, in particular. Barclay. Oh my gosh. While I just barely liked him in the first book in this series, I fell madly in love with him in this sequel.

Maybe more so than Ben…. Yep. I said it. It’s true. After reading UNBREAKABLE I am officially Team Barclay. He’s just… and after what he did… and after what Ben did….

While I can’t reveal all the reasons why… or really any of the reasons why… I will just say that there were times during this book that I completely forgot about Ben. There were even one or two moments that I wished Janelle forgot about him, too. Yeah, Barclay was just that awesome.

But Janelle was, too. She was totally kick-a**. She was brave and heroic and smart and loyal. She was my kind of heroine. She was practical and so completely the opposite of an idiot. And while she did let her heart make some of the decisions for her, she didn’t let it make her weak.

There was this one passage that I loved, right toward the end, that totally summed up who she was. Of course I can’t say what it was without spoilers, but it reminded me of just why she is one of my favorite heroines in YA.

I’m glad that this story didn’t take the same path that the first book did. As much as I loved the looming disaster aspect, I think it would have been way too over-the-top if this story followed suit.

But I did love that there was a time limit again. It definitely made this read riveting. I was obsessed with that countdown clock. Completely and totally obsessed. Every new chapter made me that much more anxious about whether Janelle and Barclay would succeed in their mission. I got more nervous with each passing hour as to whether they would find the proof they needed.

And while I didn’t tear up as often as I did in that first book, there was this moment in UNBREAKABLE that tore my heart out. It was so heartbreaking that I literally stopped reading and closed the book before making it to the end of the sentence. I couldn’t even read on to find out what actually happened. I had to stop. Catch my breath. Let the “Noooooooooo!” stop echoing through my head. Let a few tears fall. And then pick the book back up to find out just what really happened.

Of course I won’t reveal that. But, yes, there were more tears.

And I was so totally surprised.

Actually, I was surprised by just how much I loved this book given the fact that one of my favorite characters didn’t have a large role to play. And by the fact that when they were present, I wasn’t entirely sure I wanted them to be.

But this book was insanely good. I totally have to go back and re-read UNRAVELING. I must read UNDONE, which will hopefully make me fall back in love with Ben. And I definitely plan on re-reading UNBREAKABLE. I only wish this was a trilogy because I already miss these characters. Fiercely.

    div5

    Favorite passage…

Almost all the passages in this book that I earmarked as favorites are hugely spoiler-y. Most of them also make me tear up. So I decided to choose just a snippet from this one scene… one of my favorite scenes, actually.

Even still, I had a tough time choosing which passage to select from this particular scene – I went back and forth at least five times – but I decided on….

Barclay shifts slightly next to me and my left knee slides in between his. I can feel the soft cotton threads of his shirt under my fingertips, the tense muscles tight underneath the fabric. And I can feel his heartbeat thumping in his chest.

I hadn’t heard of ARCLIGHT until Jaime of Two Chicks on Books told me it was amazing and that I had to read it. She sent me the ARC, which I am definitely going to read, but I just had to pre-order the eBook so that I could have this for my permanent collection.

When Jaime recommends a book that strongly I know it’ll be one I enjoy. And as the description sounds really cool and very different, I think it’ll be a book I’ll enjoy a lot.

I can’t wait to find out how Marina ended up in the Grey, with no memory of her family or her time in the Fade. And I can’t wait to learn just how she even managed to survive the Fade, something no one has ever done before.

The description mentions that she could be either humanity’s hope or its destruction and I’m so curious to find out which she’ll be.

While I won’t get the chance to read ARCLIGHT this week, I’ll definitely be picking it up in early May.

UNBREAKABLE by Elizabeth Norris will be released in the U.S. on April 23, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 496 pages.

UNBREAKABLE is the second and final book in author Elizabeth Norris’Unraveling series.

    Line_001

I cannot believe that UNBREAKABLE is releasing this week. One moment it seemed like the release date was ages away and now it’s finally here and everyone will get to see how awesome this sequel is. The moment I finished reading UNRAVELING last fall I ran to Amazon to pre-order UNBREAKABLE because this series was one I knew I’d want to keep reading.

Of course I had no idea this was only a two book series, which still makes me a little bit sad. But I am so happy that I did get the chance to read UNBREAKABLE, even if it was only a week or so early.

Yes, as soon as I heard there wasn’t going to be a book three I completely panicked and couldn’t bring myself to say goodbye to this series that I’d only just met. Everyone who’d met these characters when UNRAVELING released had some time with them before this book’s release when they’d have to say goodbye. Whereas I’d just met them and was most definitely not ready.

Though I did finally read it. And it was amazing. And there were lots and lots and lots of tears.

And I won’t say anything more since I already rambled about UNBREAKABLE in my Book Watch post the other week, I will be posting my review soon and my stop on the UNBREAKABLE Blog Tour is coming up. So my lips are sealed.

But yes this is a must read series and yes this final book is fan-freaking-tastic!

    The Rules

    addtogoodreads

THE RULES by Stacey Kade will be released in the U.S. on April 23, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON (the eBook is available HERE) and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Disney-Hyperion, the print edition is 416 pages.

THE RULES is the first book in author Stacey Kade’s Project Paper Doll series. No details on the sequel are yet available.

    Line_001

I haven’t listened to any of the chatter about THE RULES, but when I saw that author Stacey Kade was releasing a new title I just had to pre-order it for my Kindle. And while I was so tempted to request it on NetGalley, I refrained due to an overcrowded review pile. But I’m totally stoked that release date is just about here and that I’ll be able to check out this awesome-sounding book.

I am super curious to find out just what having a mix of human and extraterrestrial DNA means for Ariane. And I’m also curious as to just what her creators were planning on doing with her if she hadn’t escaped.

The five rules she’s chosen to live by seem fairly straightforward. But of course they don’t take into account the fact that it’s almost impossible to stop yourself from falling in love. Love doesn’t play by the rules.

But I am hopeful that falling for Zane Bradshaw doesn’t complicate things too much. Though I’m guessing it just might.

THE RULES sounds so very exciting and I cannot wait to get the chance to check it out.

    Chosen at Nightfall

    addtogoodreads

CHOSEN AT NIGHTFALL by C.C. Hunter will be released in the U.S. on April 23, 2013 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in paperback and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 416 pages.

CHOSEN AT NIGHTFALL is fifth and final full-length book in the author’s Shadow Falls series.

    Line_001
I just saw that CHOSEN AT NIGHTFALL will be the final book in this series and I’m absolutely devastated. I’ve fallen quite far behind and I’d hoped to catch up before the series ended. And yet it’s ending and I’m still behind.

I have all previously released book in the series – and the novellas – on my Kindle. And I’ve had CHOSEN AT NIGHTFALL pre-ordered for ages. So when it downloads on Monday Midnight I will have the complete Shadow Falls collection. I just need to get caught up.

I have not read beyond the fist paragraph of the description but it does hint that there is still a love triangle… though not who the two boys are…. And it mentions that the conclusion will be epic, which is something I’m all for.

I hope that things work out for Kylie but if she still must decide between two boys – pick Lucas, pick Lucas! – I think this series ending will be a bittersweet one.

And as I am so far behind I won’t get the chance to catch up this spring, but I definitely want to devour the entire series this summer.

    Exile

    addtogoodreads

EXILE by Rebecca Lim will be released in the U.S. on April 23, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Disney-Hyperion, the print edition is 288 pages.

EXILE is the second book in author Rebecca Lim’s Mercy series. The third book in the series, MUSE, and the fourth book, FURY, are not yet slated for release in the U.S.

    Line_001
I never thought they’d release EXILE in the U.S. I’ve been waiting not so patiently for almost two years for its release. Actually, longer than that, since I read an eGalley through NetGalley prior to its release in May 2011.

It’s been so long that only the tiniest of fragments remain in my memory – the writing had a very unique cadence to it. And there was a bus.

But I’m not one to give up on a series that makes me wait ages and ages – I waited more than a decade for all the books in Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. In comparison, two years isn’t too terrible.

So when I discovered that EXILE was available to pre-order for the Kindle I jumped all over it. Even though my memories are fuzzy, I do remember enjoying it and wanting to see where this story was headed. But if there is going to be another two year wait between books in the U.S., I think I’ll just order the foreign editions of the remaining two books if this sequel turns out to be awesome.

Why wait if I don’t have to?

I did end up taking a peek at the description, which is bringing back some memories of Mercy’s story. I do remember being fascinated by the fact that Mercy was doomed to return to Earth in a different human form over and over. And I do remember that she suffered from memory loss. But I don’t remember much about the love story, so I’m excited to have my own lost memories of this series restored.

I am also super curious to find out if the author reveals why Mercy’s been exiled and whether she’ll be able to break the cycle she’s forced to repeat. As this is a four book series, I don’t know how much will be unveiled, but I’m hopeful of getting a few answers in this installment.

    Natural Born Angel

    addtogoodreads

NATURAL BORN ANGEL by Scott Speer will be released in the U.S. on April 23, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 368 pages.

NATURAL BORN ANGEL is the second book in Scott Speer’s Immortal City series. No information is yet available about a sequel.

    Line_001
I am so thrilled that the second book in Scott Speer’s Immortal City, NATURAL BORN ANGEL, is releasing this week. I have loved the sound of this series since before the first book was released, and I’ve actually read about half of book one before being forced to set it aside for a review book or two.

I’ve had NATURAL BORN ANGEL pre-ordered for my Kindle since very soon after it was made available to order online. But I have not checked out this book’s description as I do not want to spoil the ending for IMMORTAL CITY.

I cannot wait to continue this series and hopefully Maddy’s story. But as I don’t know the outcome of that first book or whether this sequel switches to another character’s perspective, I can only hope… and wonder….

I would love to read the two books in this series back-to-back. Hopefully early this summer. And as it has been awhile since I read the first-half of book one, I am going to start over and read it from the beginning.

I’ve never been a fan of picking a book back up from where I’ve left off when I’ve been away from it for several months, as I never reconnect in quite the same way. And I want to be able to connect with these characters, with this world and with this story.

    The Elite

    addtogoodreads

THE ELITE by Kiera Cass will be released in the U.S. on April 23, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 336 pages.

THE ELITE is the second book in author Kiera Cass’ Selection series. The third book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2014.

    Line_001
I haven’t yet read the first book in the series, THE SELECTION, but I own it and it sounds like it will be a fun read. I did cave and check out a review just the other week, which made me think that it definitely will be something I’ll enjoy when I get the chance to read it. So I headed over to Amazon to pre-order THE ELITE for my Kindle and it seems I’ve had it pre-ordered since October 24, 2012.

Clearly I’d planned on continuing this series for awhile. Even without having checked out another blogger’s views on book one. It’s very possible I was lured in by the pretty covers.

And it’s very likely that I was hooked by the fact that this story involves a competition with a Prince as its prize.

I couldn’t help but peek at this book’s description, which thankfully isn’t too revealing. And it’s made me curious to find out who I’d choose for America – Prince Maxon or Aspen. But it’s also made me wonder just what “devastating loss” America suffers that makes her “question everything.”

As this is a trilogy any possibility for a happily ever after ending won’t be in this book, but I am hopeful this won’t end on too big of a cliff as I do plan on reading these first two books in the series early this summer.

I didn’t realize I had seven books pre-ordered. I knew there were a ton of books releasing this week, I just didn’t realize that I’d have seven books scheduled to download on Tuesday.

What’s worse… or better depending on how you look at it… is that there are a couple books releasing that I didn’t pre-order but I know I will be buying on release day. Such as manicpixiedreamgirl and HOW I LOST YOU. So the reality is there are likely nine books getting added to my collection, of which eight of them are TBR books.

And with the number of books releasing the weeks of April 30th and May 7th, I am a little bit terrified of how deep a hole I’m digging for myself. I may seriously have to start putting the blinders on when it comes to new releases. Or seriously look into taking that speed-reading course I’ve been curious about.

Or discover a way to have a book’s contents implanted into my brain – with all the feels – so that it will cut down on reading time by at least one thousand percent. Now that would be awesome.

    Anyway….

I don’t think I missed any titles that I’ve ordered, even if I might have missed one or two books of note that are releasing this week. But maybe that isn’t such a bad thing. The not discovering, that is. I can only read so many books in this lifetime. And I have enough already on my Kindle to last me for years and years.

Still… I’d love to hear which of the books releasing this week are books you’ve had your eye on and are most excited to add to your collection. If you’d like to share your favorite releases, feel free to leave a comment!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    Book Watch: Unbreakable

UnbreakableUNBREAKABLE by Elizabeth Norris will be released in the U.S. on April 23, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats.

It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 496 pages.

UNBREAKABLE is the second and final book in author Elizabeth Norris’ Unraveling series.

    ***

There are a TON of awesome books releasing the week of April 23rd, many of which I have pre-ordered and cannot wait to read. But there is no book releasing on the 23rd that I am more thrilled about than UNBREAKABLE by Elizabeth Norris. Though as I am reading it now, finally, I won’t have to wait three more weeks before I can find out just how this series ends.

I only recently discovered just how awesome the characters and world are that author Elizabeth Norris created in the first book in this duology, UNRAVELING. It’s only been six months since I found out just how suspenseful and heartbreaking her story was.

From what I’ve heard, this sequel has even more tension than its predecessor and the read will result in many more tears. And as it is a series-ending book, the end will really be the end for the characters. So it’s made it that much more nerve-wracking to take the plunge.

But finding out just what happens with Janelle and Ben is totally worth the tears and all the feels. Seeing just what truths Janelle uncovers is worth being forced to say goodbye early. And getting the chance to spend a little bit more time with Agent Barclay makes me forget every single reason I had for delaying the read.

The description hints at another ticking clock. It promises a story that will be filled with action, danger and heartache. And if I wasn’t already anxiously awaiting its release before having read the description, just knowing that this story may not end happily for Janelle fills me with that much more nervous anticipation.

So, while I am excited to read Stacey Kade’s THE RULES and I’ve been told Josin McQuein’s ARCLIGHT is out-of-this-world good, I didn’t even pause for a second before putting UNBREAKABLE in the spotlight this week, because it is the most highly anticipated read for me for the week of April 23rd. And I am just so very glad I don’t have to wait that long to actually read it.

    About the Book

    Goodreads description:

Four months after Ben disappeared through the portal to his home universe, Janelle believes she’ll never see him again. Her world is still devastated, but life is finally starting to resume some kind of normalcy. Until Interverse Agent Taylor Barclay shows up. Somebody from an alternate universe is running a human trafficking ring, kidnapping people and selling them on different Earths—and Ben is the prime suspect.

But as the clues begin to add up, Janelle realizes that she’s in way over her head—and that she may not have known Ben as well as she thought. Can she uncover the truth before everyone she cares about is killed?
