2014 Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge Begins

    dontletitend_banner

    And so it begins…

I cannot believe I’m hosting this challenge again this year. Especially as I did so poorly last year. While I did manage to read a few more series-ending books than I might have if I hadn’t started this challenge, I still haven’t read a couple of the books I swore I’d read. Books like CLOCKWORK PRINCESS and DARKEST MERCY.

    Maybe this year…

If you haven’t yet signed up, check out the SIGN-UP POST for details.

If you have, then GOOD LUCK on this, the first, month of the challenge.

And they should ONLY be reviews for books that are the final book in the series.

If you forget to leave a link and this Linky List has closed, you may leave it in next month’s Linky List. But you can ONLY link up a review once.

At the end of the month I will throw the Linky List numbers into Random and select ONE WINNER for a series-ending book of their choice not to exceed $25 USD.

    dotsGood Luck!

Thank you so much for signing up for this five-month reading challenge. I hope that saying goodbye to some of your favorite series isn’t too painful. If you’re coming back for a second year, I just have to say that you’re AWESOME!

I am going to pretend that none of my favorite series are ending during the challenge months and maybe participating in the challenge this year will be less painful. We shall see.

Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge… Ends

    DONTbanner

I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who decided to participate in the Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge with me these past five months. Given my issues with finishing series, I wasn’t sure anyone would be interested in joining me in my quest to tackle those series-ending books.

You are all so amazing! So, thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

And you did so much better than I did. I tried. I really did. But I couldn’t seem to overcome the hurdle and say goodbye to a few series I wanted to say goodbye to. Though I did say goodbye to eight others. Even though I’ve only managed to review half of them.

WITH ALL MY SOUL by Rachel Vincent

    AFTERGLOW by Karsten Knight

A TOUCH MENACING by Leah Clifford

    RISE by Anna Carey

    UNBREAKABLE by Elizabeth Norris

    GODDESS by Josephine Angelini

DANCE OF THE RED DEATH by Bethany Griffin

IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum

I would have liked to have read ten series-ending books. And that almost happened. But I’d read FINALE by Becca Fitzpatrick two days before the challenge began. I couldn’t wait. And a book I thought was a series-ending book turns out not to have been – THE GIRL WITH THE IRON TOUCH by Kady Cross.

Some day I’ll have to challenge myself again so that I finally do read DARKEST MERCY by Melissa Marr, FORETOLD by Jana Oliver, CLOCKWORK PRINCESS by Cassandra Clare and BOUNDLESS by Cynthia Hand. Maybe that day will be next February, with a new challenge. Though I really hope I get the courage to read those books sooner.

    Anyway….

While my challenge wasn’t the ginormous success I’d wanted it to be, it wasn’t a total fail. But for some of you, it was an amazing success.

    Aleksandra of Aleksandra’s Corner – 21 books

Lena Reve of Between Fantasy and Reality – 13 books

Lis @ The Reader Lines – 12 books

    Jen @ Book Exhibitionism – 10 books

Katrina of Bookish Things and More – 9 books

    p7 of Bookeater/Booklover – 8 books

    Jennifer K on Goodreads – 7 books

Haraiah of Random Things in Action – 6 books

I cannot thank each and every one of you enough for joining in with me over the past five months to tackle those series-ending books. You totally rock!

But, much likes series must end, so must challenges. And this challenge has officially reached its end. Which means that all that’s left is announcing the two winners.

    So without further ado….

    Winner2_FKT

Random has spoken and the winners are…

1st Place for $50 (USD) in Books of Your Choice – Katrina at Bookish Things and More

2nd Place for $25 (USD) in Books of Your Choice – Aleksandra at Aleksandra’s Corner

Congratulations!!!! Please email me with your choices of books at either Amazon (US) or The Book Depository (Int’l) and your address details!

Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge – Month Five

    Line_001

Well, it’s the final month of the challenge. And for those of you who have managed to read at least one series-ending book during each month of the challenge, you are totally amazing.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

As this is the last month, if there are those lingering books you want to read, now’s the time. Of course you could read them after the challenge. But if you’re anything like me you’ll end up putting it off “for later.” And if you are like me, “later” never seems to roll around.

This past month no book was a clear winner like in previous months of the challenge. But BOUNDLESS seems to have been a popular read… one I really should be reading this month, now that I’m reading the novella, RADIANT, that is set just before this final book.

During the fourth month of the challenge it was Aleksandra of Aleksandra’s Corner that totally killed the challenge with four series-ending books read and reviewed. Wow. That is amazing!

I, on the other hand, did terribly. I only read one series-ending book. Just one. This past month the only series-ending book I read was:

DANCE OF THE RED DEATH (Masque of the Red Death #2) by Bethany Griffin

And I can’t even link it to my review because it’s not posted yet. Neither is my review for GODDESS which I read last month.

But they will be posted on the blog this week. And I will definitely be reading IF I SHOULD DIE this month. After just having finished the novella, DIE FOR HER, I am desperate to read that final book right now.

And I think it’s finally time to take the plunge and read DARKEST MERCY. It’s been a long time coming and I’m still not certain I’m ready to find out how that series ends… but I must. It’s one of the first books I thought of when I decided to start this challenge.

So, I think that means I’m going to have to wait just a little bit longer to say goodbye to CLOCKWORK PRINCESS. Because I refuse to say goodbye to both of these books this month.

While I am just a little bit disappointed that I haven’t read many series-ending books this month, it seems that I actually didn’t read very many books at all. So I don’t feel quite as bad for only reading one series-ending book. Though I feel terrible for only reading four books in the last month.

I am ever hopeful that will change during this last month of the challenge.

But what books are you “hoping” to read this last month of the challenge? I’d love to know!

    florals_001

Just a reminder of what to do….

When you’ve read the book and shared your thoughts online – whether on Goodreads, Facebook or your blog – stop back and leave a link in the Linky. As this is the final month of the challenge, however, the giveaway will be just a little bit different.

At the end of the challenge, I will be adding up all the linked reviews from the entire challenge. Each review link will count as one entry into this end-of-challenge giveaway. And there will be two winners. The second place winner will get one book of their choice, not to exceed $25 US. The first place winner will get $50 (US) in books of their choice.

And they do not have to be series-ending books.

So, if you haven’t read that many books for the challenge yet, there’s still time to earn a few more entries into the challenge-ending giveaway. But more importantly it’s not too late to say farewell to a series you wanted to say goodbye to ages ago.

The winner for this month’s Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge Book of Your Choice is….

    Aleksandra @ Aleksandra’s Corner

Congratulations! You’ve won a series-ending books of your choice. Please email me – or fill out my contact form – with your book of choice and your address and I’ll order it from Amazon or The Book Depository – or pre-order it if it’s not yet released.

    florals_001

As the Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge nears its end, I wish you the very best of luck in saying your goodbyes. I hope that saying goodbye has gotten easier and that you’ve managed to say goodbye to a few series that you’ve been wanting to say goodbye to for months or years.

While this past month wasn’t the most successful for me in terms of the number of books I had to say goodbye to, it wasn’t hard to pick up the series-ending book I did read and dive in. Though when I reached the story’s end I was incredibly sad that there would be no further books to anticipate. I just hope that won’t be the case for the two books I plan to read this month.

The challenge ends on July 13th at 11:59 p.m. Pacific and the Wrap Up post will go up on July 14th and will announce the two challenge winners. Even though saying goodbye to stories and characters we love is always a bit sad, I at least hope that this challenge has been just a little bit fun.

Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge – Month Four

    DONTbanner

If you’re just visiting here now and have no idea what this challenge is about, CLICK HERE for the post with all the details. It’s not too late to sign up!

To be a participant in this challenge you don’t have to read a series-ending book each month of the challenge. But if you do, and leave your links, you’ll have that many fewer series-ending books on your TBR pile and you’ll get an entry for each review link into the current month’s giveaway for a book of your choice to one winner.

    Line_001

If you have been actively participating in this challenge and managed to make it through the first three months, it means you’re more than halfway through this challenge.

    YAY!

There are just two months left, including this one, in the Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge. Which is good – as there is still time to take the plunge and finish those series that should have already been finished – and bad… for the very same reason. Especially if you really don’t want to see those favorite series end.

Once again, both WITH ALL MY SOUL and CLOCKWORK PRINCESS seem to have been the favorite series-ending books to read last month. Of course, I still haven’t managed to say goodbye to Cassandra Clare’s series….

And during this past month, it was Haraiah of Random Things in Action that totally rocked the challenge.

While I didn’t do as poorly as I did the previous month of the challenge, I still didn’t get to finish all the series I wanted to.

This past month I managed to read:

UNBREAKABLE (Unraveling #2) by Elizabeth Norris

    [UPDATE]

THE GIRL WITH THE IRON TOUCH (The Steampunk Chronicles #3) by Kady Cross – review scheduled

I thought it was a little odd that THE GIRL WITH THE IRON TOUCH was to be the final book in the series. Especially as there was definitely more story to tell. With the way things ended and all…. Well I’ve heard chatter that there will be another book or two in the series. Though I can’t confirm it. So I’m removing this from my challenge list for now. Even though I read it thinking it was the final book.

    [END OF UPDATE}

GODDESS (Starcrossed #3) by Josephine Angelini – review to be written

But I had hoped to read IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum and I had hoped to finish reading DANCE OF THE RED DEATH by Bethany Griffin in time to list them for the third month of the challenge. That didn’t happen. But both books better be in next month’s post listing or I’ll be so disappointed in myself.

And no, I still couldn’t bring myself to read FORETOLD or SPELL BOUND, but I will read them before July 14th… I hope.

In this fourth month of the challenge my plan is to finally read CLOCKWORK PRINCESS. I also think it might be time to finish Alyson Noel’s The Immortals series or Melissa de la Cruz’s Blue Bloods. Though I’m not sure I’m ready to say goodbye to either just yet.

But what books are you “hoping” to read this month? I’d love to know!

    florals_001

Just a reminder of what to do….

When you’ve read the book and shared your thoughts online – whether on Goodreads, Facebook or your blog – stop back and leave a link in the Linky. At the end of this third month of the challenge I’ll throw the names into Random and choose a winner for ONE series ending book of your choice.

The more books you link up each month means more chances to win. And it also means you’ve managed to overcome any fears of seeing your favorite series end. Which is a good thing. Right?!?

As ever, I wish you luck in tackling those series-ending books during this fourth month of the Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge. And I hope that things have gotten a bit easier.

For me, it wasn’t so hard to say goodbye this third month of the challenge… but then again I wasn’t focusing on the fact that they were series-ending books. I just wanted to see where the story was headed. I hope you found a way to make saying goodbye easier, too.

This month’s challenge ends on June 13th and the Month Five post will go up on June 14th. And I hope that with over half the challenge completed, saying goodbye will be as easy as saying hello.

But for those of you who have signed up and made it through month TWO…

    CONGRATULATIONS!

I am so happy to see that a couple of you took the plunge and read WITH ALL MY SOUL by Rachel Vincent. And I can’t believe that BOUNDLESS and CLOCKWORK PRINCESS made a few of your reading lists this month. Both books are ones I haven’t been able to bring myself to say goodbye to. And believe me, I’ve tried!

And wow, Lena and Lis did so amazing this month! I’m more than a little bit jealous. Especially as, for me, this month wasn’t so great. I didn’t think it would be, but I hoped….

Many of the books on my pile were first and second books in a series, not series-enders. But to be fair, I had to read the Eve Trilogy for the Epic Reads event, so I couldn’t get to all the series ending books I’d wanted to.

Of course, the main reason I wasn’t able to read all three titles I’d hoped to read this month was that I just couldn’t say goodbye. It’s so hard! Especially with books you know will involve many tears. Like CLOCKWORK PRINCESS and FORETOLD.

But I hope I’ll be able to muster up the courage this month for both those books. I’m not wholly confident, but I’m going to try.

    Anyway…

The only series-ending book I read (and reviewed) this month is…

RISE (Eve #3) by Anna Carey

And while I did manage to post my review for WITH ALL MY SOUL, I still need to post my review for A TOUCH MENACING.

So while I’d planned on reading CLOCKWORK PRINCESS and FORETOLD last month, this month I’m going to try and read GODDESS by Josephine Angelini and SPELLBOUND by Rachel Hawkins in addition to those other two.

Hey, I did say try not will….

But what books are you looking forward to dreading the ending of during this third month of the challenge? I’d love to know!

I wish you all the very best of luck, once again, for this third month of the Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge. If you’re like me, this is getting harder rather than easier, but if not… YAY!

This month’s challenge ends on May 13th and the Month Four post will go up on May 14th. As ever, I wish all your series-ending reads to end happily… or at least be bitter-sweet… and most definitely not end on the edge of a cliff.

But if you do, and leave your links, you’ll have that many fewer series-ending books on your TBR pile and you’ll get an entry for each review link into the current month’s giveaway for a book of your choice to one winner.

And for those of you who have signed up and made it through month one…

    CONGRATULATIONS!

I am so excited to see that there are a few brave readers who managed to dive into those series-ending books. And at least one who managed to read SIX series-ending books. Wow. That is awesome!

While I may have only done half that number, I know it won’t continue for the four remaining months of this challenge. Because with each book’s ending it is getting harder and harder for me to go on tackling those series concluding books.

And I really don’t want any of these series to end. Ever.

Okay, well may not ever, but for a long, long time. Especially not The Infernal Devices which is ending next week. Which I will force myself to read. Because, while I don’t want the series to end, I don’t want to risk hearing about how it ends before I’ve had a chance to discover it for myself. So I plan on taking the plunge next week.

    Anyway…

The three books I’ve read for the challenge so far are…

WITH ALL MY SOUL (Soul Screamers #7) by Rachel Vincent
AFTERGLOW (Wildefire #3) by Karsten Knight
A TOUCH MENACING (Touch Trilogy #3) by Leah Clifford

And while I haven’t posted reviews for any of them just yet, my review for A TOUCH MENACING will be posted next week, my review for WITH ALL MY SOUL will be posted on its release date and my review for AFTERGLOW will be written after a second read and posted closer to its release.

The books I hope to read in this second month of the challenge are CLOCKWORK PRINCESS by Cassandra Clare and FORETOLD by Jana Oliver. And depending on when I receive RISE by Anna Carey for the Epic Reads Challenge, I might be reading that series-ending book too.

What books are you looking forward to dreading the ending of during this second month of the challenge? I’d love to know!

The best of luck to you in this second month of the Don’t Let It End Reading Challenge. I hope the challenge is getting easier, not harder. And I hope you’re not as terrified of seeing how The Infernal Devices ends as I am.

This month’s challenge ends on April 13th and the Month Three post will go up on April 14th. I wish all your series-ending reads to end happily… or at least be bitter-sweet… and most definitely not end on the edge of a cliff.

If you’re just visiting here now and have no idea what this challenge is about, CLICK HERE for the post with all the details. It’s not too late to sign up!

For those of you who have signed up to be a part of the challenge with me THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are very, very brave. Way braver than I am.

I am still kicking myself for coming up with this idea… and we’ll see just how well I do by the time Bastille Day rolls around. I have a feeling it will be a lot harder to say goodbye the more times I do it over these next five months. In fact, I tested the waters and read a series ending book just last week and it was HARD to say goodbye. I know it won’t get any easier.

But I am committed to this challenge, even if I only end up finishing five series over the next five months. I have a feeling those of you who have signed up will be WAY more successful than I am.

    Anyway….

The challenge starts today, so it’s now officially time to pick up those final books in the series you’ve been reluctant to read and start reading. Any books read prior to today can’t be counted. But I would love to hear which book you’re starting the challenge with, so feel free to leave a comment!

My plan is to start off this challenge with Rachel Vincent’s WITH ALL MY SOUL, which may just destroy me before this challenge has barely begun. I am so not ready to say goodbye to Tod, Kaylee, Nash or Avari. Sabine? Yeah, I’m okay with saying goodbye to her… though I actually grew to like her in BEFORE I WAKE.

When you’ve read the book and shared your thoughts online – whether on Goodreads, Facebook or your blog, stop back and leave a link in the Linky. At the end of the month I’ll throw those names into Random and choose ONE WINNER for TWO Series Ending Books of YOUR Choice.

The more books you link up each month means the more chances to win. But more than that it means you’ve finally mustered up the courage to say goodbye to a favorite series!

    florals_001

For those of you who signed up prior to the start of the event, as I mentioned in the sign-up post, there was a giveaway for a Series Ending Book of Your Choice to THREE Winners. I’ve thrown all the names into Random, with the extra entries for those who created a post and…

    Winners

Congratulations to Tizzy @ Creative Therapy, Lis @ The Reader Lines and Jen & Patricia @ Book Exhibitionism. You’ve each won a Series Ending Book of Your Choice that I’ll order from Amazon or The Book Depository depending upon your location.

Please send me an email with your book of choice and address details!

    florals_001

I wish you the best of luck in this challenge. I know it won’t be easy… believe me I know! And I hope that finally saying goodbye to some of those series that linger, or taking a chance and saying goodbye to a series that is ending now, will be easier than you thought, that the goodbye won’t be filled with too much pain and sorrow and that it will free you up to discover brand new series you’ve been just dying to dive into!

    Happy… I hope… reading!
