“I would say it’s a pleasure to meet thee, Prosperity Oceanus Redding, but truly, I only anticipate the delights of destroying thy happiness….”

Prosper is the only unexceptional Redding in his old and storied family history—that is, until he discovers the demon living inside him. Turns out Prosper’s great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather made—and then broke—a contract with a malefactor, a demon who exchanges fortune for eternal servitude. And, weirdly enough, eight-hundred-year-old Alastor isn’t exactly the forgiving type.

The fiend has reawakened with one purpose–to destroy the family whose success he ensured and who then betrayed him. With only days to break the curse and banish Alastor back to the demon realm, Prosper is playing unwilling host to the fiend, who delights in tormenting him with nasty insults and constant attempts to trick him into a contract. Yeah, Prosper will take his afterlife without a side of eternal servitude, thanks. But with the help of his long-lost uncle, Barnabas, and his daughter, Nell, a witch-in-training, it seems like Prosper has at least a fighting chance of ridding himself of Alastor before the demon escapes and wreaks havoc on his family.

Little does Prosper know, the malefactor’s control over his body grows stronger with each passing night and there’s a lot Alastor isn’t telling his dim-witted (but admittedly strong-willed) human host…

From #1 New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken comes a tale of betrayal and revenge, of old hurts passed down from generation to generation.  Can you ever fully right a wrong, ever truly escape your history? Or will Prosper and Alastor be doomed to repeat it?

In an act of desperation, Becca and her friend Marisol start posting short videos online—with the help of their adorable filmmaker neighbor, Raj—and the videos catch the attention of a TV producer. The Review

HELLO, SUNSHINE is a fun and hopeful, sweet and also bittersweet, thoroughly engaging, and incredibly entertaining read. Its heroine, Becca, is both optimistic and anxious, lovable yet maddening, completely relatable, and absolutely adorable. And with an adventure in Los Angeles that is full of highs and lows, successes and failures, financial and emotional challenges, and challenging and interesting and odd people, it promises to be a captivating and utterly delightful, one-sit read.

Becca Harrington wished she could put a positive spin on her decision to move to Los Angeles to spend a year pursuing a career in acting. But she would much rather be going to college like everyone else in her class, even if it meant going to school in the same city as her rival, Brooke.

She never thought every school she’d applied to would reject her for one mistake. She never thought her boyfriend would bail. And she never expected to be filled with such doubt and uncertainty about herself, her abilities, and her future.

Unless she can figure out how to support herself, learn to survive and get ahead in a city as cutthroat and temperamental as Los Angeles – without a car – and overcome her self-esteem issues – in an industry that is known for destroying confidence – she’ll have to go back home, reapply to college, and hope she doesn’t get turned down again.

Though with a plan, a little bit of luck, a few good ideas, a couple of friends to lend a hand, and the courage to take chances, she just might make it.

Leila Howland wrote a story that is uplifting, though not overly so. She put Becca on an emotional rollercoaster. She gave her a number of lucky breaks, but balanced them out with crushing losses. She introduced her to some wonderful people, but also those that weren’t nearly as nice or as normal. And she tested her strength, her resiliency, her adaptability, and her willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed.

HELLO, SUNSHINE is not a cotton candy read – super sweet, light and fluffy, and nothing more. While it has moments that are upbeat and hilarious, it has many more that are substantive. Becca learns a lot about what it means to be an adult, to rely on herself, to persevere, to choose her own path. She also learns what it’s like to wear a bear costume, to eat yogurt without a spoon, to get creative with shower curtains, and just how expensive juice can be in Los Angeles.

For those looking for a summer – or anytime – read that will make them laugh, keep them hooked, make them root for the heroine a bit more often than they’ll want to throttle her, and that will give them a taste of the life of an aspiring young actress in L.A., HELLO, SUNSHINE is a must.

    About NANTUCKET SUMMER

Title: NANTUCKET SUMMER [Nantucket Blue and Nantucket Red bind-up]
    Author: Leila Howland

    Description…

Follow the exploits of Cricket Thompson as she explores the alluring island of Nantucket and faces the unexpected in this collection of Leila Howland’s first two novels.

    Nantucket Blue

For Cricket, a summer on Nantucket with her best friend Jules is a life-changing dream come true. That is, until Jules and her family suffer a devastating tragedy, and Jules becomes a stranger. And instead of lying on the beach working on her tan, Cricket is making beds and cleaning bathrooms to support herself in paradise. But it’s the things she hadn’t counted on—most of all, falling hard for someone who should be completely off-limits—that turn her dreams into an exhilarating, bittersweet reality.

    Nantucket Red

Cricket is headed to Brown University in the fall, but to help pay for her living expenses, she returns to work on Nantucket for the summer, where she finds challenges she hadn’t anticipated. As her world opens up in new ways, Cricket questions the future she’s been working toward her whole life. With the pull of a love triangle complicating everything, she’ll have to learn that success isn’t just about reaching goals, but also about listening to what she’s been trying to ignore—her own heart.

    A Teaser

I looked up; he was so close. Our cheeks touched.

“You are just . . .” he said into my ear. My eyes closed, eyelashes like matches striking my cheeks, setting them on fire. He kissed me, long and sweet, on the mouth.

“Just what?” I asked when we came up for air, stunned, heart stomping like a parade, wrists aching from holding the oars. He seemed unable to finish his sentence with words. He pulled the wet oars inside the boat, wrapped his arms around me and kissed me again.

    Praise for Nantucket Blue

“[Howland] evokes the Nantucket setting vividly . . . when it comes to indulgent beach reading, sometimes it’s more fun to get pushed over by a
wave than to stay safely on your towel.” —The New York Times

“Sand, secrets, Nantucket Reds, and romance. A fresh, feel-good debut.” —The Boston Globe

“Readers should feel empowered by Cricket’s efforts to grow up into a strong, honest, and emotionally intelligent young woman, even as they are enchanted by the romantic and exclusive island setting. This is a natural beach read, but will easily win Howland year-round fans, too.” —Publishers Weekly, starred review

“Fans of Sarah Dessen will find much to like here, as the charm of this summery yarn lies in Cricket’s open appeal.” —Library Journal

“[Cricket’s] story is told in a way that is both engaging and alluring. Definitely a standout novel in its genre.” —School Library Journal

    Praise for Nantucket Red

“Enjoyable and introspective, this is more than just a summer beach read.” —Kirkus Reviews

“In this novel about finding oneself and following your heart, Howland creates a character that readers will be cheering for from beginning to end.” —VOYA

    The Review

SERAFINA AND THE SPLINTERED HEART is the suspenseful, thrilling, nail-biting, and action-filled third installment in an amazing and interesting and unputdownable series set at the end of the 19th century on and around the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, about a rather unique young girl who serves as the estate’s resident rat catcher, protector, and mystery solver. Gripping from page one to the very end, this third book in the series offers a jaw-dropping surprise, an unexpected ally, a seemingly unbeatable foe, a difficult challenge to overcome, a number of problems to solve, and an epic battle. It is an electrifying and tension-filled and utterly enthralling read.

Picking up not too long after the events that left Serafina battle-scarred and unsure of her ability to distinguish good guys from bad guys, the Biltmore Estate and its residents once again need her to be their protector, an old enemy needs her assistance, and Braeden just needs his friend. But if she can’t find a way out of her current predicament, she won’t be of any help to anyone.

With a dark force drawing nearer, growing ever more powerful, leaving destruction in its wake, Serafina doesn’t have much time to figure out who or what it is and how to stop it, let alone find a solution to her own problem. She’ll have to believe in herself, trust her instincts, and rely on her friends and their abilities if there’s to be any chance at success.

Robert Beatty takes his story to the next level in SERAFINA AND THE SPLINTERED HEART. It has more substance, more complex problems and ideas, and more complicated characters and relationships. The writing is more advanced than that of its predecessor. The author presents even more things to think about. Each of the main characters has grown and changed and become more aware of who they are.

Things wrap up nicely at the end of the tale, but the road there promises to be exciting and nerve-wracking and fraught with danger for Serafina and Braeden and Waysa. And with a shocking beginning, a couple of mysteries, a new kind of dark magic, and another chance to explore the Biltmore Estate, it is an enchanting and riveting must read installment.

    Author: Elle Cosimano
    Release date: June 13, 2017
    Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
    Pages: 368
    Foramts: Hardcover, eBook

    Description…

“It’s dark magic brings him back.”

Tori Burns and her family left D.C. for claustrophobic Chaptico, Maryland, after suddenly inheriting a house under mysterious circumstances. That inheritance puts her at odds with the entire town, especially Jesse Slaughter and his family—it’s their generations-old land the Burns have “stolen.” But none of that seems to matter after Tori witnesses a young man claw his way out of a grave under the gnarled oak in her new backyard.

Nathaniel Bishop may not understand what brought him back, but it’s clear to Tori that he hates the Slaughters for what they did to him centuries ago. Wary yet drawn to him by a shared sense of loss, she gives him shelter. But in the wake of his arrival comes a string of troubling events—including the disappearance of Jesse Slaughter’s cousin—that seem to point back to Nathaniel.

As Tori digs for the truth—and slowly begins to fall for Nathaniel—she uncovers something much darker in the tangled branches of the Slaughter family tree. In order to break the centuries-old curse that binds Nathaniel there and discover the true nature of her inheritance, Tori must unravel the Slaughter family’s oldest and most guarded secrets. But the Slaughters want to keep them buried… at any cost.

From award-winning author Elle Cosimano comes a haunting, atmospheric thriller perfect to hand to readers of the Mara Dyer trilogy and Bone Gap.

    The Review

THE SUFFERING TREE is a dark and intriguing story whose title will pique your curiosity, whose secrets will keep you riveted, whose characters will break your heart, and whose mysteries will keep you guessing. It is a tragic and romantic and thrilling tale of loss and love and greed and vengeance. It is haunting and magical and unsettling and interesting and is a read that promises to be unforgettable.

Tori Burns had no idea why Alistair Slaughter Senior had bequeathed the home and land she now resided in and on to her family. The Slaughter family had owned the land for centuries, and his descendants were not at all happy with what he’d done.

It was hard enough being a new arrival in Chaptico, Maryland. But being an enemy of the Slaughters and having a secret she is ashamed of makes her even more of an outsider. And with the nightmares she’s been having, the misfortune that suddenly befalls the Slaughters, the strange things that start happening, and the mysterious arrival of Nathaniel Bishop, there is no chance that she’ll be able to adjust to her new reality.

Not until she finds out just what Nathaniel is doing there, learns what her family’s connection is to the Slaughters, figures out how to keep the Slaughters from taking back her family’s inheritance, and uncovers the secrets they don’t want coming to light.

Elle Cosimano crafted a fascinating and different story that gives readers a glimpse at a past that is harsh and heartrending, introduces characters who are captivating and diverse, touches upon issues past and present that are tough and uncomfortable and disturbing, and offers up an enthralling puzzle to solve. Add to this a witch, a curse, blood magic, forbidden love, deception, revenge, and murder, and it is a read that will be unputdownable.

Full of twists and turns and surprises, THE SUFFERING TREE is gripping and chilling and foreboding. It doesn’t shy away from mentioning the cruelty and the injustices that were commonplace in the past or from discussing Tori’s drastic coping mechanism. But it isn’t overwhelmed by these issues. The history, the mystery, the romance, the magic, combine into a story that is absolutely spellbinding.

Note: This review is based on an ARC received from the publisher in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book. A Kindle eCopy was purchased for my collection.

    The Review

J.C. Geiger’s WILDMAN is interesting and thought-provoking and strangely compelling. With a remote setting, an unusual cast of characters, a melodic, dreamlike quality to the writing, an unhurried pace, and an uncertain destination, it is a story that will draw you in, pique your curiosity, and make you think about choices and possibilities and friendships and labels and open roads and roads not taken.

Lance Hendricks had his near future mapped out for him. He would give his valedictory speech. He would spend his summer working at the bank. He would use his full ride at OSU to get a degree in business that would guarantee him a good paying job. He would earn enough money so that someday he would have the freedom to do what made him happy.

He did not plan for his car to break down hundreds of miles from home in the middle of nowhere. He did not plan to miss the party that would finally give him and his girlfriend, Miriam, some time alone. He did not plan to blow off his mom, his friends, his job, his school, his future.

But then again he hadn’t planned on saving a life, losing a bet, getting into a fight, making new friends, getting a nickname or a few, having an adventure. And he certainly did not plan on Dakota.

Author J.C. Geiger offers up a lot of food for thought throughout his story. He’ll make you think about luck and chance and what if. He’ll make you wonder about how much of a hand you’ve really had in the decisions you’ve made, how many clues the universe has given you that you might have missed, how often you’ve delayed gratification for the possibility of a better future instead of opting for the guarantee of a better now.

The author introduces a character who isn’t the easiest to get a read on or to connect with but who is captivating and intriguing. Lance is both predictable and a bit of a mystery. He is definable and indefinable. He is different things to different people. He knows what he wants and yet doesn’t have the first clue about what he wants. His thoughts are shifting, fluid, wavering, wandering, his moods mercurial, his actions unreliable. And still he is immensely likable.

WILDMAN is a beautiful and bittersweet and haunting and hopeful debut that will make you fall in love with the quirky inhabitants of the town, the middle of the night call of the train, a ’93 Buick, a boy who won’t be defined by stereotype, and the possibility that nothing is set in stone. It is a memorable and original and offbeat and outstanding summer must must read.

I am super excited to be offering up a copy of DREAM MAGIC by Joshua Khan, for giveaway. DREAM MAGIC is “an immersive high fantasy middle grade stand-alone novel, the second in the Shadow Magic series.”

This series looked so awesome that I just had to go out and buy both books for my Kindle and I can’t wait to read them.

And if I wasn’t already convinced, here’s what best-selling author Rick Riordan has to say –

“If you are pining for that thrill you felt when you first discovered Harry Potter […] here is a fantasy world you will lose yourself in. I defy you not to love this story.”

    A Note from the Author…

    Hi, booklovers!

I’m author Melissa Landers, and I’m so excited to launch STARFALL, the second and final book in my Starflight duology! This story picks up shortly after the first book ends, but now Cassia and Kane are the main characters, with Doran, Solara, and the rest of the Banshee crew pitching in to help take down an intergalactic mafia. (You know, just an ordinary day in space.) And while saying goodbye to characters is never easy, I think I gave the crew a proper sendoff with plenty of humor, heart, and action. I hope you love STARFALL as much as I do!

Haven’t read the first book? You’re in luck, because for a limited time, Starflight is on sale for 99 cents in all e-formats. Now you can binge read the entire duology in one sitting!

    Description…

Life in the outer realm is a lawless, dirty, hard existence, and Solara Brooks is hungry for it. Just out of the orphanage, she needs a fresh start in a place where nobody cares about the engine grease beneath her fingernails or the felony tattoos across her knuckles. She’s so desperate to reach the realm that she’s willing to indenture herself to Doran Spaulding, the rich and popular quarterback who made her life miserable all through high school, in exchange for passage aboard the spaceliner Zenith.

When a twist of fate lands them instead on the Banshee, a vessel of dubious repute, Doran learns he’s been framed on Earth for conspiracy. As he pursues a set of mysterious coordinates rumored to hold the key to clearing his name, he and Solara must get past their enmity to work together and evade those out for their arrest. Life on the Banshee may be tumultuous, but as Solara and Doran are forced to question everything they once believed about their world—and each other—the ship becomes home, and the eccentric crew family. But what Solara and Doran discover on the mysterious Planet X has the power to not only alter their lives, but the existence of everyone in the universe…

    Description…

When Princess Cassia Rose fled her home world of Eturia to escape an arranged marriage, she had no idea her sudden departure would spark a war. Now after two years hiding as a ship hand, she is finally returning to her beloved home, but not in the way she imagined. Shackled by bounty hunters, she is violently dragged back to account for her crimes. Her only solace is that the Banshee crew managed to evade capture, including Kane Arric, her best friend…with occasional benefits.

Meanwhile, Kane and the rest of the crew of the Banshee plan a desperate rescue mission. But when they arrive on Eturia, Cassia isn’t exactly in need of heroics—she’s claimed her birthright as Eturia’s queen, but has inherited a war-torn planet simmering with rebellion. Cassia must make alliances, and Kane, the bastard son of a merchant, isn’t a choice that will earn her any friends. Kane knows he will never find someone to replace Cassia—and is certain she returns his feelings—but how can he throw away his own promising future waiting on a queen?

When the outer realm is threatened by the dangerous Zhang mafia, Cassia, Kane and the rest of the Banshee crew uncover a horrifying conspiracy that endangers the entire universe. In the face of unspeakable evil, Cassia must confront her own family’s complicated legacy on Eturia and decide once and for all who her real family is.
