    Today’s topic is…

    Best ____ of 2013

Last year I chose favorite quotes. But this year I’m going for CHARACTER COUPLES. Even though many of this year’s reads paired up characters I’d rather see paired with someone else, there were quite a few character couples I love, love, loved.

And instead of rambling about all of my reasons why I love these character couples I thought I’d let the characters speak for themselves. They do a much better job of it than I ever could. Though I’m so very tempted to chime in…

    line2

    Favorite Character Couples 2013

    1.

    Shadowfever

SHADOWFEVER (Fever #5) by Karen Marie Moning

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Mac and Barrons…

“I’m not the hero, Mac. Never have been. Never will be. Let us be perfectly clear: I’m not the antihero, either, so quit waiting to discover my hidden potential. There’s nothing to redeem me.”

    I want him anyway.

It’s what he wanted to know.

I exhale impatiently and shove hair from my face. “Are you going to talk me to death or fuck me, Jericho Barrons?”

    2.

    Endless Knight

ENDLESS KNIGHT (The Aracana Chronicles #2) by Kresley Cole

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Evie and Death…

“What are you thinking about, creature?” His words were husky.

Licking your runes? Thank God he couldn’t read my thoughts anymore. Face flushing, I grasped for something to say. “I bet you were expecting a taller Empress this time around.” Lame.

“I would change nothing about your appearance.”

When we locked eyes in the mirror, his burning gaze made even more heat cascade through my body.

Death rose with that lethal grace and strode toward me. I swallowed. Would he try to kiss me? And what would I do if he did?

    3.

    Through the Zombie Glass

THROUGH THE ZOMBIE GLASS (White Rabbit Chronicles #2) by Gena Showalter

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Alice and Cole…

“I just… I can’t seem to stay away. You’re like a magnet, and I’m drawn. And what about you? You’re supposed to yell at me, scream profanities and tell me to go and never come back. Why aren’t you yelling?” he asked almost bitterly.

Because, despite everything, I liked that he was here.

    Foolish girl.

“You want me to yell?” I said, and drew in a deep breath, preparing. “I will.”

He shook his head, looked up at me through the thick shield of those dark, dark lashes. “It’s too late for that. I’m going to kiss you, Ali.”

Kiss… Yes… No! “You made your bed.”

“I know. But I still want you in it.”

    4.

    With All My Soul

WITH ALL MY SOUL (Soul Screamers #7) by Rachel Vincent

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Kaylee and Tod…

“This is the most frighteningly beautiful mouth I have ever seen. The most terrifyingly delicious lips I have ever tasted. These lips make me hungry for more every time I kiss them. This mouth, and the tongue inside it…they speak words I hang on to. Words that make me want to be a better man. Words I would gladly build my entire afterlife around. But they also say things that terrify me. Things that send chills all the way to my heart. They speak about dangers I can’t prevent. Threats I can’t always see. They threaten to do things that could get you hurt, when every single beat of my heart tells me that I need to protect you.”

I stared at him, stunned, and he leaned in to kiss me again, softly. Almost chastely.

    5.

    Crash Into You

CRASH INTO YOU (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Isaiah and Rachel…

Rachel tries to lower her head, but I reach up and touch her chin. “Don’t.”

I tilt her head up, engulfing her line of vision. She’s going to see me and me alone. No cars, no Zach, none of the other assholes trying to win her eye during the night. The sweet scent of jasmine entwining with the salty smell of the beach rushes into my lungs. I lick my lips, wanting to kiss her, but I’m too full of energy to dare let my lips brush hers.

Beneath my fingertips, her pulse beats wildly. “I don’t understand you, Isaiah.”

“Then we have something in common, because I don’t get you at all.”

    6.

    Sweet Peril Cover

SWEET PERIL (The Sweet Trilogy #2) by Wendy Higgins

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Anna and Kaidan…

“For the record,” he ground out in a guttural whisper, “I was more myself with you during those three days than I’ve ever been with anyone in my life. It’d be easier if I could be fake with you, but you bring out everything in me, little Ann. All of it.”

His sudden fierceness frightened and excited me. He was not in his right mind. I blinked several times before taking a step back and running into the rail. I could do nothing but stare as he went on.

    7.

    Foreplay

FOREPLAY (The Ivy Chronicles #1) by Sophie Jordan

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Pepper and Reece…

He gave my sweatshirt a small tug, inexorably pulling me toward him, bit by bit, and it was like the other night again. His presence was overwhelming, the heat that emanated from him. The blue of his eyes that seemed to turn to smoke when he looked at me. I was under his spell. Maybe I had never ceased to be. I’d been spellbound since our first kiss and especially since the night I spent in his loft. Maybe this was what had brought me back here in the middle of the night. Maybe I was hoping to repeat the experience.

“I’ll never lie to you, Pepper.” That soft utterance blew through me like a sonic blast. Crazy, but I heard more than his vow to be honest. The words were full of the expectation that there would be a him and me, an us. That we were really doing this. Whatever this was.

    8.

    While You're Away

WHILE YOU’RE AWAY by Jessa Holbrook

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Sarah and Will…

It was easy to kiss Will Spencer. We moved in tandem, both turning at the same time. It was like we were machined to fit together, the right key in the right lock. Rising on my toes to meet his mouth, I looped my arms around his neck. Stretched against him, I felt long and tall, and strangely lovely. I wasn’t transformed by his touch. I was revealed.

    9.

    The Beautiful and the Cursed

THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE CURSED (The Disposessed #1) by Page Morgan

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Ingrid and Luc…

Ingrid froze as he grazed his fingers through her hair, scattering a few pins to the floor. Then he gripped the back of her head, his tangled fingers tugging at her hair, and Ingrid thought she could finally read something in the way he looked at her: a longing so tangible that it made her ache.

“I haven’t ended you because you’re my human.”

And then Luc did what he hadn’t done in the orangery. His lips found hers. It was a light sweep of a kiss, and Ingrid, who’d quit breathing, feared he was going to stop again. The idea of it knifed through her and her hands itched to reach up, latch on to him, and refuse the retreat.

    It didn’t come to that.

    10.

    The Collector

THE COLLECTOR (The Collector #1) by Victoria Scott

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

    Dante and Charlie…

“But you need to know the truth. I didn’t mean for this to happen.” I stop, considering what I just said. “Actually, I guess I did mean for this to happen. At first. But then I got to know you, Charlie. I got to see how you are, the things you do for other people. The way you smile when there’s nothing left to smile about, and the way you laugh…it hurts to even hear it. Because it reminds me what it’s like to live. To be happy.” I take a deep breath. “You are beautiful, Charlie. You’re so beautiful, and I can’t believe I let you think you weren’t.”

I turn around but focus on the ground. I can’t see her face. It’ll end me. But my eyes are deceitful, and before I can gouge them from my face, they slide up and land on her. On Charlie. And she’s crying. Tears rolling down her cheeks, sliding into a wide, happy smile.

    Wishful Thinking Character Couples

As I mentioned, there were a number of characters I’d have liked to see paired up with someone other than the character they ended up with… or the character they’re with at the moment.

So I decided to create a Top 10 Wishful Thinking Character Couples list. But instead of listing them here, since I have exactly ten, I thought I’d create a completely independent list over at The Annex.

Best Books I’ve Read in 2013

I read a ton of awesome books this year. Many from the same series by the same author. But as I was trying so very hard to keep my list to just ten, I decided to choose only one book from each series, even if I read multiple books in a particular series that I thought were amazing.

And I couldn’t list all my favorite reads this year since one or two of them were a secret. Nor could I list all the 2013 releases I love, love, loved since I read some of them in 2012. But I’m not too sad about that, because reading them last year made creating this list just a little bit easier.

There were also a few books I loved in 2013 that were not YA. But in keeping with my typical YA only “best” list, I didn’t include them in this post. Though I plan on posting my non-YA favorites on The Annex. Yes, I’m cheating just a little… as usual. But I just can’t seem to help myself.

    Anyway…

It took me ages to narrow my list down from my original picks and to keep my “honorable mentions” to only four titles, just like last year. But after much hair pulling and nail-biting I was able to get it done.

    line2

The Best I’ve Read in 2013

    1.

    With All My Soul

WITH ALL MY SOUL by Rachel Vincent

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

As sad as I was to see this series end, I still couldn’t help falling madly in love with this last installment. It was heartbreaking and nerve-wracking and exciting and heartwarming and I loved every single minute of the read.

I especially loved the fact that I was able to become intrigued by a brand new character, that the story wasn’t rushed and that the ending didn’t leave me feeling like something was missing. It was the perfect ending to an amazing series and I couldn’t have loved it any more than I did.

    2.

    Endless Knight

    ENDLESS KNIGHT by Kresley Cole

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

Kresley Cole’s Arcana Chronicles are completely and totally amazing. They are so my kind of books. From beginning to end in both books in this series I was utterly riveted.

And while I didn’t think it was possible, this second book in the series was even more exciting than the first. It was darker, it was hotter, it was all sorts of sexy. The lore was fascinating. And it made me fall head-over-heels in love with Death just like I hoped it would.

To say that I am dying for the next installment in this series would be a major understatement.

    3.

    Through the Zombie Glass

THROUGH THE ZOMBIE GLASS by Gena Showalter

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I read both books in this series in 2013 and absolutely loved both of them. They were unputdownable reads and I couldn’t have been more surprised by the fact that I fell so completely in love with zombie books that gave a nod to Alice in Wonderland.

Gena Showalter was incredibly creative with her stories. She did not skimp on the action. It was edge-of-your-seat exciting. And the love story was angst-filled and twisty-turny to the max.

And as I opted to choose just one of the two books in this series as a favorite, I had to select the one that absolutely killed me in the best possible way.

    4.

    The Eternity Cure

THE ETERNITY CURE by Julie Kagawa

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I did not expect to love the Blood of Eden series more than I loved the author’s faerie books. But oh my gosh I couldn’t help myself. Dystopia and vampires are an unexpected combination but one that the author made work so amazingly well.

The characters, the epic journey, the killer cliffhanger all worked together to make this one of my favorite books and not simply a 2013 favorite. I’m talking all-time favorite.

    5.

    Crash Into You

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I fell under Katie McGarry’s spell in 2013. She is a fan-freaking-tastic writer and her Pushing the Limits series is one of my very most favorite contemporary YA series.

I read all three books in this series, plus the novella, in 2013, which made it very hard to choose only one of the books for my top ten list. But I had to choose Isaiah and Rachel’s story, even though I adored Noah and Echo’s story so, so much.

Perhaps it was getting to know and love Isaiah before reading his story that made me love it that much more. Or perhaps it’s simply just that Isaiah is amazing. But whatever the reason, it is my favorite of the series and it’s definitely one of my favorite reads from 2013.

    6.

    Afterglow

    AFTERGLOW by Karsten Knight

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I was devastated to see this series end. The world that Karsten Knight created was so unique and fascinating and exciting. The characters were lovable and detestable and completely and totally kick-a**. And this final installment in the series was just as phenomenal as its predecessors.

And that ending. Oh. My. Gosh. That ending. While I can’t talk about that ending, I will just say that it gives me hope. For a certain character. Oh the possibilities.

    7.

    Star Cursed Cover

    STAR CURSED by Jessica Spotswood

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I was so glad that I got the chance to read both books in The Cahill Witch Chronicles this year. I was completely surprised by how much I loved each of the books. They are not stories in my typical go-to genre and yet both books are among my most favorites.

I couldn’t help but fall in love with the story, the setting, the characters. It’s a totally addictive read and one that’s definitely re-read worthy. Though even after a re-read, it’s no easier to have to wait for the next installment in the series. This I know all too well.

    8.

    The Beautiful and the Cursed

THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE CURSED by Page Morgan

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

Yet another unexpected favorite on my list is Page Morgan’s THE BEAUTIFUL AND THE CURSED. If someone told me that I could fall in love with a gargoyle I would have totally rolled my eyes at them. I might have even told them that they were crazy. I would have definitely thought it.

Well, this author made me not only fall in love with a gargoyle, but her story about them. The sequel is one of my most anticipated reads for 2014. And the wait is killing me.

    9.

    While You're Away

WHILE YOU’RE AWAY by Jessa Holbrook

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

I read this book in its serialized format, with just a few chapters available to read in one sitting. It was exquisite torture. This story was tantalizing and nerve-wracking and beautiful and nerve-wracking – yes I said it twice, but it needed to be said two times… if not more.

I was made to root for a love story that I never would have thought I’d cheer for. I was made to wish and hope for a happily ever after for two characters who, at first, I didn’t think deserved one. I was anxious, I was fearful, I was tentatively hopeful and at times I was even sad. But I was keeping my fingers crossed the entire time for the slim chance that things would work out.

    10.

    A Touch Menacing

A TOUCH MENACING by Leah Clifford

    (GOODREADS | AMAZON | BARNES & NOBLE)

Leah Clifford’s Touch Trilogy is one of my favorite series of all time. It’s so very different from anything I’ve ever read. It’s very dark. It is full of surprises. Shocking surprises. Devastating surprises. But it is wicked, wicked awesome.

The end of this final installment in the series left me in tears. And, no, I won’t say whether they’re happy or sad tears. But if you have read this book or you’ve read any of the books in this series by this author I think you will know exactly what kind of tears there were.

This last book was non-stop action, with more than a few punches to the face. I couldn’t devour it fast enough. It was that epic. And if I didn’t think it could get any better, the unpublished epilogue made this book that much more off-the-charts amazing for me. Holy-freaking-wow.

Other Books I Love, Love, Loved

    SweetPeril

    SWEET PERIL by Wendy Higgins

Exciting. Sexy as heck. Captivating from start to finish. Delicious. An absolute must.

    The Testing

    THE TESTING by Joelle Charbonneau

Gripping. Surprising. Totally addictive. A total stand-out.

    The Burning Sky

THE BURNING SKY by Sherry Thomas

Magical. Enchanting. Captivating. Epic. Fan-freaking-tastically good.

    Pivot Point

    PIVOT POINT by Kasie West

    Intriguing. Nerve-wracking. Unputdownable. Amazing.

    line3

I tried to keep my rambling to a minimum when it came to my top ten picks for 2013. But I may have gone on just a little longer than I’d planned. Oh well…

But I just couldn’t help myself. They are my favorite reads this year… well, most of them. There are a few others…

I will try to be a lot less wordy in the rest of the posts this week, but when it comes to favorite reads I always feel the need to go on… and on… and on.

But now that I’m done I can’t wait to check out what your favorite reads are, so be sure to leave a link to your posts or Goodreads shelf in the Linky List that follows just below the giveaways.

    BW-RTW

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of November 26th-December 2nd that I have pre-ordered.

    Crash Into You

    addtogoodreads

CRASH INTO YOU by Katie McGarry releases in the U.S. today, November 26, 2013, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 496 pages.

CRASH INTO YOU is the third full-length book in Author Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series. The fourth book, TAKE ME ON, is slated to release on May 20, 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I am so excited that CRASH INTO YOU releases today and that I have the finished copy on my Kindle and my print copy will be arriving at some point (hopefully) later today. This was my favorite story in the series so far. I loved reading about Isaiah and Rachel and I can’t wait to do so again.

I was super lucky to get the chance to read this early, but I am so glad that it’s finally available so that everyone will get the chance to read this amazing book. I am just so curious to see if Isaiah will take the place of Noah in other readers’ hearts as he did for me.

As I have read this story and know how the love story begins and ends I won’t ramble on about it here. But the description, while fantastic, doesn’t come close to doing it justice – it was sweet and romantic and heartbreaking and amazing. It is my favorite book yet by the author. And it is a book I definitely plan on reading again.

    Description…

From acclaimed author Katie McGarry comes an explosive new tale of a good girl with a reckless streak, a street-smart guy with nothing to lose, and a romance forged in the fast lane

The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life-that’s who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers…and she’s just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker-a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can’t get him out of her mind.

Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks-no matter how angelic she might look.

But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they’ll go to save each other.

    Pawn

    addtogoodreads

PAWN by Aimée Carter releases in the U.S. today, November 26, 2013, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 352 pages.

PAWN is the first book in the author’s The Blackcoat Rebellion series. The second book in the series, CAPTIVE, is slated for release in 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I can’t believe that PAWN hits shelves today, that my Kindle copy downloaded last night and I still haven’t had the chance to finish it and find out what happens in this first book in the series. This is a book whose release I’ve been anxiously awaiting, was so excited to have received an eARC of early, and still wasn’t able to get it read in its entirety prior to release, which just kills me.

PAWN was my choice for a book to spotlight for my Book Watch post, I was so excited to read it, and here it is release date and I haven’t found out what happens to Kitty at the end of this story. I haven’t found out whether she was able to stop the rebellion. I haven’t found out… hardly anything.

But I am still totally stoked about this book. I still plan on finishing it. I still expect to fall in love with it like everyone whose read it and buzzed it has. It will just have to be next weekend, after I clear a few IRL stuffs off my plate.

Though I plan on continuing to read it from the finished eBook instead of the eARC as finished copies are always better.

    Description…

YOU CAN BE A VII IF YOU GIVE EVERYTHING.

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.

If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked – surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister’s niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

There’s only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed, and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that’s not her own, she must decide which path to choose and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she’s only beginning to understand.

    Crystal Fire
    addtogoodreads

CRYSTAL FIRE by Jordan Dane releases in the U.S. today, November 26, 2013, in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 336 pages.

CRYSTAL FIRE is the second book in Author Jordan Dane’s The Hunted series.

    Dots_Divider

I loved the first book in Jordan Dane’s The Hunted series and I’m so excited that CRYSTAL FIRE released today and that I have the sequel on my Kindle. I didn’t request the eARC though I was so very tempted to do so, but I knew my schedule was insane.

But now it has released and now it’s mine, mine, all mine and I can read it at my leisure. Though as I’m desperately curious about what will happen in this follow-up, I plan on reading it sooner rather than later.

After checking out the description I’m anxious to find out whether the Believers will succeed in taking Gabe down. I’m curious to find out what is in Gabe’s past. And I’m hopeful that the Indigo and Crystal children will be able to defeat them before too many are forced to suffer from their cruel experiments.

I love Jordan Dane’s unique voice and I can’t wait to read this next book in her series. I am hopeful, schedule permitting, that I’ll be able to do so some time in December.

    Description…

Because of what you are, the Believers will hunt you down.

A storm is brewing on the streets of LA, one that has intensified since a tragic and deadly confrontation claimed an innocent life.

While Gabriel Stewart trains his army of teen psychics to stop Alexander Reese–the obsessed leader of the Believers–the fanatical church becomes more bent on the annihilation of all Indigo and Crystal children. They’re silencing the voices of the telepathic hive, one soul at a time, with frightening experiments cruelly executed on vulnerable minds.

When the Believers torture a mysterious homeless boy, Oliver Blue, they brainwash him into betraying his own. The boy becomes a deadly pawn to take Gabriel down. Dots_Divider

I am super excited that ANGEL FEVER released in the U.S. today. I’ve been in love with this series since before the first book was released in the U.S. and I was so excited when I got the opportunity to read book one just a bit early courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley.

While I haven’t had the chance to read book two, ANGEL FIRE, yet, I definitely plan on reading both books back-to-back. I actually planned on waiting as the wait for each book’s release has been maddening and this is one of those stories that you just want to dive into and not stop reading until the end.

I couldn’t help but take a peek at the description – and now hope that I’ll forget about the spoilers for book two – as I was curious to see if this was, in fact, the final book. It is, which makes me happy, and a little bit sad, but more happy because I won’t have to wait for answers.

Answers to the questions about what will happen with Willow, Seb and Alex, about how, or whether, the human race will survive, and just what consequences each of them will have to face. Answers I plan on getting when I read both books in January.

    Description…

As half-angel Willow strives to save the world from her parasitic otherworldly kin, romance and tension heat up to a climactic finale.

In the devastated remains of the world, millions of people live in “refugee” camps provided by the angels who have all but enslaved humanity. As this angelic stranglehold tightens, Willow and Alex are recruiting and training new Angel Killers while struggling to hold ground on the celestial battlefield. But Willow continues to have feelings for Seb, and her love and resolve are tested as a shattering revelation sends Alex on a separate journey.

Now that the final battle versus the angels is about to begin-and the fate of the world hangs in the balance-each of them must face the consequences of their own choices. Will love endure? Will the human race survive?

It may be a fairly quiet week for releases, what with it being Thanksgiving week here in the U.S. But it’s a freaking AWESOME week for releases which more than makes up for the fact that I only have four full-length books getting added to my collection.

While I have read CRASH INTO YOU, it is a book I plan on reading again, which means I have four new books for the TBR pile. But I am not going to complain, as I am desperate to read them all. And I’m just so happy that they’re mine and that I can read them whenever the mood strikes.

I don’t think I forgot anything last week. I don’t list novellas – though I’m thinking I really should – so I didn’t include the various novellas that downloaded in the past two weeks – like Claudia Gray’s THE FIRST MIDNIGHT, Veronica Rossi’s BROOKE, Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan’s WHAT TO BUY THE SHADOWHUNTER WHO HAS EVERYTHING. But I own all of those and I’m excited to read them all one of these days.

And as I don’t always list New Adult purchases, I may have neglected to include REDEMPTION (Defiance #2) by Stephanie Tyler, which I can’t wait to read, that released on November 18th.

But I don’t think there were any YA titles that I just had to have last week or that are releasing this week, that I forgot to mention. Of course I’m happy to stand corrected. So if there are any “must own” titles I missed, please feel free to let me know.

I hope that a few of this weeks releases are ones you have been anxiously awaiting and that the wait has finally come to an end. Whether they were delivered to your door, to your eReader or you were able to grab a copy at your local bookstore or from your library, I hope that any one of this week’s releases mean that you have a very happy reading week ahead.

    line2

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Crash Into You Blog Tour: Interview with Jenny of Supernatural Snark + Giveaways

    Crash Into You Banner 1

When I was chosen to not only be a part of the CRASH INTO YOU Blog Tour hosted by Kismet Book Touring, but to kick the tour off, I was ecstatic. I absolutely love Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series and CRASH INTO YOU is my new favorite.

Noah and Echo are amazing, but Isaiah and Rachel are so unbelievably awesome together. I could not have been happier to learn that Isaiah was getting his very own story. And the story that Katie McGarry wrote for him was abso-freaking-lutely perfect.

I did get the chance to read CRASH INTO YOU, and I plan to read it again before it releases. Yes, I loved it that much. So when I learned that I was going to be interviewed and get the chance to share my thoughts about this book and get the chance to interview Jenny of Supernatural Snark for this tour I was super excited.

And while I’d love to share all those thoughts right now, since I probably shared a bit too much in my interview I will just say that I fell madly in love with this story, I adore Isaiah even more than I ever thought would be possible, and I cannot wait until everyone gets the chance to read this book so that I can talk about all those heartache-y, swoon-worthy, and totally yummy things that happened.

But for now I have an interview with the very awesome Jenny of Supernatural Snark to share. I could not agree more with almost every single one of her answers. And for those of you who have read CRASH INTO YOU, I’m curious if you agree, too.

As a part of this tour there are a couple of giveaways with some seriously amazing prizes – the most amazing being a copy of CRASH INTO YOU, IMO.

And… if you’d like to learn a little bit more about CRASH INTO YOU, the insanely talented author, or the other books in the series, I’ve included some information below along with places to find them online.

So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers…and she’s just added two more to the list.

    About Katie McGarry

    Katie McGarry

Katie was a teenager during the age of grunge and boy bands and remembers those years as the best and worst of her life. She is a lover of music, happy endings, reality television, and is a secret University of Kentucky basketball fan.

Katie is the author of the full-length Young Adult novels PUSHING THE LIMITS and DARE YOU TO, and the e-novella CROSSING THE LINE. Her debut novel, PUSHING THE LIMITS, is a 2012 Goodreads Choice Finalist for YA Fiction and an RT Book Reviews 2012 Reviewer’s Choice Awards Nominee for Young Adult Contemporary Novel.

Writing has given Katie an excuse to pursue her passions. Research for her books has provided her with the amazing opportunity to train with baseball players, ride along in a drag car at ninety-six miles per hour and experience boxing and mixed martial arts. The most memorable moments for Katie are when she speaks to groups of teenagers about her research, writing and the truth that no dream is out of reach. Katie would love to hear from her readers.

    The Interview

I am so happy to welcome Jenny of Supernatural Snark to the blog today to answer a few questions about Katie McGarry, her Pushing the Limits series and especially CRASH INTO YOU.

    Supernatural_Snark

    Q.

How did you first come to hear about Katie McGarry’s series and what made you decide to add it to your reading pile?

    A.

I actually first heard about PUSHING THE LIMITS at BEA 2012. There was a lot of buzz about it, but I’m typically not much of a contemporary reader and will almost always pick up something paranormal instead, so I hadn’t planned on reading it. A friend managed to snag an extra copy of it though and gave it to me, and once the positive reviews started pouring in I figured I’d give it a try and then promptly fell in love. 🙂

    Q.

What is it you love most about this series, in general, or each of the books – PUSHING THE LIMITS, CROSSING THE LINE, DARE YOU TO, CRASH INTO YOU – in specific?

    A.

I’m a character girl. I live for characters when I’m reading and tend to be way less interested in a story that’s more plot driven than character driven, and Katie’s characters suck me in every single time. I’m also mildly obsessed with romance and this series never fails to thoroughly satisfy in that area. *dreamy sigh*

    Q.

What was your reaction when you first heard that Isaiah would be getting his very own book and love story?

    A.

HAPPY DANCE!!!!!! Any announcement about books-to-come from Katie are usually met with spastic flailing, and Isaiah’s story was no different.

    Q.

If you had to describe CRASH INTO YOU in five words or less how would you describe it?

    A.

    Dark. Hopeful. Thrilling. Complex. Tragic.

    Q.

What did you love most about CRASH INTO YOU? Was it the love story? Was it learning more about Isaiah? Was it getting to meet Rachel? Was it the writing? Or was it everything?

    A.

My first instinctual response to this question is to say the love story given my aforementioned obsession with romance, but I think the relationships in Katie’s books only work so beautifully as a result of many other things: The backstory and rich character development, the supporting characters (Rachel’s family in particular in this book), and the emotional and physical challenges the protagonists each face. So basically, everything. 🙂

    Q.

What is your favorite quote/passage from CRASH INTO YOU?

    A.

I’m not typically a reader who marks passages or highlights favorite quotes so I pretty much fail this question. I will say one of my very favorite scenes though is one of the very last ones between Rachel and Isaiah where there’s some physical distance between them that they’re attempting to close. I don’t want to say more due to spoilers, but I’ve reread that moment an embarrassing number of times!

    Q.

After having met Isaiah earlier in the series and then getting to know him better in CRASH INTO YOU, have your opinions/thoughts about him changed? If so, how?

    A.

He just about ripped my heart out in DARE YOU TO. I so desperately wanted him to be with Beth after PUSHING THE LIMITS, and while it became clear in her book why Ryan was a better fit, my heart just broke for him. This book then was a treat for me, seeing Rachel catch him off guard and smooth some of his sharp edges. I wouldn’t say my opinion of him has changed at all since I first “met” him in book one; I simply love him even more now.

    Q.

Was there a specific moment in this story or in a previous book in the series when you fell for Isaiah? If so, what was that moment?

    A.

For me there are sometimes characters who just leap right off the page and worm their way into my heart with very little effort. Isaiah was definitely one of those characters. There’s nothing specific he did or didn’t do that made me fall for him, I just sort of blinked and he snuck his way in before I even knew it.

    Q.

What do you think about Isaiah and Rachel vs. Isaiah and Beth?

    A.

At first when Katie announced Beth’s story and I found out her love interest wasn’t Isaiah I was hugely disappointed. I thought for sure the two of them would be together, but I absolutely loved Rachel in this book and now can’t imagine him with anyone else. Rachel complements him, a light to Beth’s dark, and I think Isaiah desperately needed a little light in his life.

    Q.

Whose story is your favorite so far? Which character do you wish had a story?

    A.

I think this series gets better as it goes, so while Noah and Echo will always have a special place in my heart since they came first and proved to me that I could fall in love with contemporary books, Isaiah’s is my favorite to date.

I found Rachel’s family to be fascinating and appalling at the same time, so I’m crazy excited for her brother West’s story next. There’s a lot we don’t know about that family yet, and I can’t wait to dig even deeper with him.

Or_Dots_DividerI just have to say thank you again so much to Jenny for answering all of my questions. This was such a fun interview to conduct. And I love knowing that this was her favorite book in the series too, that she is just as drawn in by Katie McGarry’s characters as I am, that Isaiah snuck up on her, and that she agrees that Isaiah needed a little light in his life – that light being Rachel.

While I’m sure Jenny needs no introduction, for those of you who may not be aware of all of the places she hangs out online, here are some of the places you can…

    My Reading Pile #133

    MyReadingPileText

I was totally surprised when a hardcover copy of a book I received in eARC format for review showed up this week. It was totally unexpected. And it wasn’t the only happy surprise in the mailbox. A book I was hoping was on its way showed up, too.

    MRP133

[Credit for mailbox sharing goes to The Story Siren]

I did not at all expect to receive a print copy of ENDLESS KNIGHT by Kresley Cole in the mail this week thanks to the author and the publisher, Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. I had received an eARC for review which was more than I could have hoped for. But receiving a hardcover copy was such a wonderful surprise.

I also received an ARC of UNHINGED by A.G. Howard for review thanks to the author and the publisher, Amulet Books. I will be on the book’s tour this November, but as my stop isn’t a review stop it was totally awesome to be able to receive an early copy to read.

And I really, really, really, want to read it right now. But I’m going to wait until next week, until I catch up on my reviews, so that there won’t be any distractions. Or rather so that Alyssa, Morpheus and Jeb won’t distract me from writing those reviews.

I also received a number of eARCs for review that I’m just dying to read:

I received CRASH INTO YOU (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Teen. When I headed over earlier in the week to check out the site and stumbled upon this amazing book I couldn’t help but immediately click to send it to my Kindle. I can’t wait to read Isaiah and Rachel’s story. The sneak peek I read in my copy of DARE YOU TO was awesome and I’ve been dying to read it ever since.

I also received a copy of Aimée Carter’s PAWN (The Blackcoat Rebellion #1) thanks to the always awesome Harlequin Teen and NetGalley. This new series sounds seriously epic and I cannot wait to check it out – threats, conspiracies and a twisted game. Yeah, definitely epic.

I was totally surprised and totally stoked when I was approved for Ann Redisch Stampler’s AFTERPARTY thanks to Simon Pulse and Edelweiss. I can’t wait to dive into WHERE IT BEGAN and see just what happens after in this follow-up book that promises to be “explosive, sexy, and harrowing.”

When I saw SEA OF SHADOWS (Age of Legends #1) by Kelley Armstrong on Edelweiss I nearly died. I could not believe that HarperCollins was offering it in eARC format and I just had to grab a copy for review. This book sounds unbelievably awesome. It’s a Kelley Armstrong book so it has to be. But oh my gosh I would love to read this right now and head out on that adventure with Moria and Ashyn. Soon. I will be reading this very, very soon.

And last, but definitely not least, thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Teen, I received an eARC of OLIVIA TWISTED by Vivi Barnes for review. I have been anxiously awaiting this book’s release so I can meet Olivia and the intriguing Z and see just how this author reinvents a classic that’s one of my most favorites.

Yes, that image gallery is just begging for me to grab a sixth book and after seeing Jordan Dane’s CRYSTAL FIRE on NetGalley I may just have to do just that. But as I technically did get six books (counting the print ARC I received) I am a little too overwhelmed to request seven.

But I’m about one hundred percent sure that it will be in next week’s post. The temptation is one I don’t plan on resisting.

    But for now…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

    (September 29, 2013 – October 5, 2013)

    His Dark Ways

    add

First up on the pile is HIS DARK WAYS by Naomi Canale. I received an eBook for review from the author and I’d hoped to get this on the pile a couple weeks ago. But I’m totally stoked to be able to get it on the pile this week.

I love dark books and this story sounds like it will be dark, eerie and more than a little bit chilling. It’s been awhile since I read a book about paranormal hauntings and I cannot wait to check this out.

I’m curious about just what happens after the addiction is triggered between Savanna and Daniel. I have a feeling that things will not end well for at least one of them. And I’m dying to find out just whose dark ways the book’s title is referring to. Daniel’s or someone else’s?

If all goes as planned I’ll be reading – and hopefully finishing – HIS DARK WAYS on Tuesday.

    The Description…

Savanna Christy, a pastor’s daughter, is on a rebellion. Once her Dad told her the Bible warns of opening doors that shouldn’t be opened. She’s become obsessed with finding out if those doors are just as invisible as the God she’s been raised to know.

One night, during another thrill-seeking adventure, Savanna and her friends Amy and Lucky, head thirty minutes out of their small town of Tonopah, to check out the Goldfield Hotel, known to be one of the most highly active places for paranormal activity in the nation. Together the three of them break in, hoping to open one of the doors the Bible speaks of, and in the middle of a satanic séance the three of them are dragged to various places of the hotel. But when the door shuts before Savanna’s cornered, something saves her. As footsteps slowly make their way to where Savanna is under a window, she reaches out her hand. Daniel, an entity who’s been locked away between space and time, becomes just as visible as Savanna. And her energy can give him life again, only when they touch (which triggers an addiction).

    line3

    Crash Into You

    add

Next up on the pile is CRASH INTO YOU by Katie McGarry. I received the eARC this week thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Teen and it has been a total battle trying to keep myself from reading it.

I fell in love with this author’s writing and her series just a few months back and when I browsed inside CRASH INTO YOU and briefly met Rachel I couldn’t wait for this book’s release. And I’m so glad that I don’t have to.

I love the alternating point’s of view in the author’s series. And I am so glad that Isaiah gets his own story, one that hopefully will have a happily-ever-after. But I’m even more excited about this story because of the element of danger from the street racing and the ticking clock that gives them just six weeks to find a way out of whatever bad situation they’ve gotten themselves into.

I plan to read this on Wednesday so that I can sneak UNHINGED onto the pile, but as I’m dying to read this right now, I may end up reading it this weekend.

    Wishful Thinking Reads

OLIVIA TWISTED by Vivi Barnes is my wishful thinking read this week. I have wanted to read this book for ages, ever since I first learned of its existence, and now I finally have it in hand. But as I have a bunch of books I really need to read first, I will have to wait until at least next week. But I really, really wish I could read this right now.

    Those Left Behind

I am all sorts of behind this week. Things got absolutely crazy with work and I had next to no time to read. And no energy to write the reviews I’d hoped to post this week. Plus, I think I feel like I’m coming down with something, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to spend the weekend catching up. But we’ll see.

At least I finally got my review written and posted for THROUGH THE ZOMBIE GLASS and unless I’m totally taken down and out for the count my reviews for FIND ME and ENDLESS KNIGHT will be completed and scheduled this weekend. I just need to write those reviews for WILD CARDS, THE BURNING SKY and ALL OUR YESTERDAYS.

I think that’s a little way too ambitious, though. So I’m shooting for WILD CARDS. Fingers crossed.

I’m also behind on my reading, but by the time this post goes live I should be finished with FROZEN and will hopefully have started STIR ME UP. If I get finished with both by Sunday I’ll be on track with the books from last week’s pile and can finally finish THE BROKENHEARTED, which I’d started and did not finish before I felt the urgency to tackle this week’s reads take hold.

I know I should have added one or two of the more pressing review books to the pile this week – RESIST or A SLEEP SO DARK – but I am in the mood for something angsty and contemporary and I just know that if I put any other type of book on the pile it would be left behind. So, CRASH INTO YOU it is.

And if all goes well, I will not have any books left behind next week, though there will likely be a couple reviews still to write.

    NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds

I went a little bit crazy on NetGalley this week. It really couldn’t be helped, though, as Harlequin Teen had some seriously awesome books up for grabs as did Entangled Teen.

While I typically list my NetGalley requests here, as I received all of them for review already, I just listed them above. This post is long enough this week, I didn’t feel the need to be too redundant. Though, speaking of redundancy, I did include links to each of the versions of PAWN and CRASH INTO YOU below.

And while I have requested and received three of the titles I found, and plan on requesting CRYSTAL FIRE, there are a few other eARCs I discovered in my search that look interesting.

OLIVIA TWISTED by Vivi Barnes (Entangled Teen,  Nov 5 2013)

CRYSTAL FIRE (The Hunted #2) by Jordan Dane (Harlequin Teen, Nov 26 2013)

PAWN by Aimée Carter (Harlequin Teen, Nov 26 2013)

PAWN by Aimée Carter (Harlequin Enterprises Australia, Dec 1 2013) **ONLY Australian bloggers and reviewers**

PAWN by Aimée Carter (Harlequin (UK) Ltd, Jan 3 2014)

CRASH INTO YOU (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry (Harlequin Teen, Nov 26, 2013)

CRASH INTO YOU (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry (Harlequin Enterprises Australia, Dec 1 2013) **ONLY Australian bloggers and reviewers**

CRASH INTO YOU (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry (Harlequin (UK) Ltd, Dec 6 2013)

INFINITY (The Chronicles of Nerissette #3) by Andria Buchanan (Entangled Teen, Nov 5 2013)

THE VIGILANTE POETS OF SELWYN ACADEMY by Kate Hattemer (Random House Children’s, April 8 2014)

THE STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL SORROWS OF AVA LAVENDER by Leslye Walton (Candlewick Press, Mar 25 2014)

As I expected, I didn’t get much reading done last weekend due to Bloggiesta. Though I did get quite a few of my planned blog-related tasks done. Of course none of them helped with my reading pile, which now has six more books than it did last week, since I received six and didn’t quite finish the two from last week. But I do expect to finish STIR ME UP by the end of the day on Saturday and hope to have finished FROZEN before this post goes live. We shall see….

While I only have two new books planned for this week’s reading pile I definitely intend on reading UNHINGED and really want to finish reading THE BROKENHEARTED. If I manage to get ahead with a couple of my posts and write a couple of reviews this weekend I think I can read three or four books this week, at least.

This all depends on whether or not I end up being taken down by the flu.

But anyway… as I am feeling a little bit off and I want to get back to one of the three books I’m currently reading, I will cut this short and just wish you the happiest of reading weeks ahead.

And, as always, if you’d like to share what books you have on your reading pile or the books you received this week, leave a comment as I’d love to know!
