“O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou, Romeo?” Apparently he’s here, in Rachel Caine’s latest novel PRINCE OF SHADOWS and oh my gosh I am so excited for my pre-order to download.

I think Rachel Caine is an amazing writer – I am madly in love with her characters – and I can’t wait to read her retelling of the tragic tale of the Capulets and Montagues.

I love that Benvolio Montague sees Rosaline and a curse falls on Verona that rewrites their fates. I am dying to see just how this story changes because of his actions. And I really hope to be able to do so next weekend… if I can wait that long.

    Description…

A thrilling retelling of the star-crossed tale of Romeo and Juliet, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Morganville Vampires series.

In the Houses of Montague and Capulet, there is only one goal: power. The boys are born to fight and die for honor and—if they survive—marry for influence and money, not love. The girls are assets, to be spent wisely. Their wishes are of no import. Their fates are written on the day they are born.

Benvolio Montague, cousin to Romeo, knows all this. He expects to die for his cousin, for his house, but a spark of rebellion still lives inside him. At night, he is the Prince of Shadows, the greatest thief in Verona—and he risks all as he steals from House Capulet. In doing so, he sets eyes on convent-bound Rosaline, and a terrible curse begins that will claim the lives of many in Verona…

…And will rewrite all their fates, forever.

    Cress

    addtogoodreads

CRESS by Marissa Meyer will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Feiwel & Friends, the print edition is 560 pages.

CRESS is the third full-length book in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles. The fourth book in the series, WINTER, is slated for release in 2015.

    Dots_Divider

I am so excited that not only will my Kindle copy of CRESS download this week but that the lovely print edition will arrive so that I can add it to my collection. I am currently mid-read and I am wildly in love with this third book in the series. It might just be my favorite yet.

I don’t know how things will end. I just know that I am totally riveted. And that I’d much rather be continuing to read CRESS instead of rambling about it here and now in this post.

Marissa Meyer is an amazing and imaginative storyteller and with each book in this series she continues to wow me. And as excited as I am to reach this story’s end, I am sad that this series will end with WINTER. Hm… maybe I should have waited to start reading CRESS so I could have further delayed the inevitable.

    Description…

Rapunzel’s tower is a satellite. She can’t let down her hair—or her guard.

In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker—unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.

The Sound of Letting Go Cover

    addtogoodreads

THE SOUND OF LETTING GO by Stasia Ward Kehoe will be released in the U.S. on February 6, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Fiking Juvenile, the print edition is 400 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I feel like I’ve been waiting for ages for THE SOUND OF LETTING GO‘s release date. And in just a few more days I’ll finally get the chance to read this amazing-sounding book when it downloads to my Kindle.

I can’t wait to discover Daisy’s story, to see whether she’ll be able to completely break away from who she used to be or whether Cal will remind her of who she was and all that she gave up. I have no idea which choices I’ll root for, whose side I’ll be on, and whether I think Daisy should hold on or decide to let go.

If time permits I’d love to get this on my reading pile next week. But if not, I definitely plan on adding it to the pile after my exam on the 16th.

    Description…

For sixteen years, Daisy has been good. A good daughter, helping out with her autistic younger brother uncomplainingly. A good friend, even when her best friend makes her feel like a third wheel. When her parents announce they’re sending her brother to an institution—without consulting her—Daisy’s furious, and decides the best way to be a good sister is to start being bad. She quits jazz band and orchestra, slacks in school, and falls for bad-boy Dave.

But one person won’t let Daisy forget who she used to be: Irish exchange student and brilliant musician Cal. Does she want the bad boy or the prodigy? Should she side with her parents or protect her brother? How can she know when to hold on and when—and how—to let go?

    Alienated

    addtogoodreads

ALIENATED by Melissa Landers will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Disney-Hyperion, the print edition is 352 pages.

ALIENATED is the first book in a new series by Author Melissa Landers. The second book in the series, INVADED, is slated for release on February 3, 2015.

    Dots_Divider

I had the chance to read ALIENATED early and I loved it and can’t wait for my Kindle copy to be added to my collection this week. Though if I spy this book in the bookstore this weekend and its cover is every bit as gorgeous as I think it will be, I may just have to add a print copy to the collection, too.

With the way things ended I’m just dying for the sequel and I can’t believe that’s 365 days from now. It’s too far away!

I loved meeting Cara and Aelyx. I loved the idea of the L’eihr exchange program. I loved discovering all the secrets… or most of them… and I am just so curious about where this story is headed in the next book. Things got pretty crazy there. Like when Cara found… oh, no that’s spoiler-y, not going to continue on with that thought.

If I haven’t lost the ability to wrangle my thoughts, I hope to be able to post a review next week. Of course I don’t plan on revealing any spoiler-y things there, either. But maybe I’ll tease just one or two of my favorite bits.

If that doesn’t happen, maybe when I add this to the pile again for a re-read – because yeah, I totally want to re-read this – I’ll be able to share just why I adore Aelyx, even though….

    Description…

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara’s classmates get swept up by anti-L’eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn’t safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara’s locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she’s fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

    Something Real Cover

    addtogoodreads

SOMETHING REAL by Heather Demetrios will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Henry Holt and Co. (BYR), the print edition is 416 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I am super excited for the release of SOMETHING REAL this week. I got the chance to read it early and I love, love, LOVED it. But it was a printed ARC and I can’t wait for the finished copy to download to my Kindle.

I am not surprised to hear that it won an award. This story was refreshingly original and such a surprise as it was quite a bit different from what I expected. But it was amazing and heartbreaking and heartwarming and so completely addictive. But not in the way that reality TV is addictive.

There is nothing mindless and empty about this book. The characters are sympathetic and likable and amazing and selfish and cruel and greedy and utterly despicable. But I loved getting to meet them all.

As I have read it recently I won’t be adding it to the pile in the next few, but this is one of those books that’s definitely re-readable and totally collection-worthy.

    Description…

Winner of the 2012 PEN New England Discovery Award!

There’s nothing real about reality TV.

Seventeen-year-old Bonnie™ Baker has grown up on TV—she and her twelve siblings are the stars of one-time hit reality show Baker’s Dozen. Since the show’s cancellation and the scandal surrounding it, Bonnie™ has tried to live a normal life, under the radar and out of the spotlight. But it’s about to fall apart…because Baker’s Dozen is going back on the air. Bonnie™’s mom and the show’s producers won’t let her quit and soon the life she has so carefully built for herself, with real friends (and maybe even a real boyfriend), is in danger of being destroyed by the show. Bonnie™ needs to do something drastic if her life is ever going to be her own—even if it means being more exposed than ever before.

    Ignite Me

    addtogoodreads

IGNITE ME by Tahereh Mafi will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 416 pages.

IGNITE ME is the third and final full-length book in Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me trilogy.

    Dots_Divider

I almost can’t believe that in just a few short hours the final book in the Shatter Me series will be downloading to my Kindle. I am so excited and nervous and anxious and scared and sad and totally terrified about what I might discover in IGNITE ME.

It was the book I chose for my Book Watch post the other week so I really am not going to take the time to ramble here. I don’t think I have the appropriate words at my disposal to talk about how [insert better world than excited here] I am.

But I’m equally as terrified about what’s going to happen. I’m just as sad that this will be the end. I do not want to say goodbye to Warner or Adam or Kenji or Juliette or… anyone. I don’t want to say goodbye to this world, the beautiful writing. I don’t want it all to end.

But I will be reading it the second I get it. I will not let my fear keep me from reaching the end. Even if it means that I will be fighting back tears for the entire read.

    Description…

The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, called “a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love”

Juliette now knows she may be the only one who can stop the Reestablishment. But to take them down, she’ll need the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew-about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam-was wrong.

In Shatter Me, Tahereh Mafi created a captivating and original story that combined the best of dystopian and paranormal and was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping read from an author who’s not afraid to take risks.” The sequel, Unravel Me, blew readers away with heart-racing twists and turns, and New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia said it was “dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense.” Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and climactic end.

    Mistwalker

    addtogoodreads

MISTWALKER by Saundra Mitchell will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HMH Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I love Saundra Mitchell’s writing and pre-order every single book she releases, which includes MISTWALKER. Though until I created this post I hadn’t even read its description.

Though now that I have, I can’t wait for its release.

I am so very curious about this idea of the Grey Man who is really a young man trapped inside a lighthouse and forced to collect a thousand souls. I really hope that Willa doesn’t opt to trade places with him to help her family. But I am super curious as to what would happen if she did.

The description piqued my curiosity but has left me in the dark about what direction this story might take. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it on the pile later this month so I can find out.

    Description…

When Willa Dixon’s brother dies on the family lobster boat, her father forbids Willa from stepping foot on the deck again. With her family suffering, she’ll do anything to help out—even visiting the Grey Man.

Everyone in her small Maine town knows of this legendary spirit who haunts the lighthouse, controlling the fog and the fate of any vessel within his reach. But what Willa finds in the lighthouse isn’t a spirit at all, but a young man trapped inside until he collects one thousand souls.

Desperate to escape his cursed existence, Grey tries to seduce Willa to take his place. With her life on land in shambles, will she sacrifice herself?

    Landry Park

    addtogoodreads

LANDRY PARK by Bethany Hagen will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Dial, the print edition is 384 pages.

LANDRY PARK is the first book in a new series of the same name by Author Bethany Hagen.

    Dots_Divider

I have heard such amazing things about LANDRY PARK and I can’t wait for my pre-order copy to download. While I haven’t yet discovered Downton Abbey, I am a fan of THE SELECTION and am loving most things dystopia these days.

I can’t wait to meet Madeline Landry, find out whether she marries and runs the family estate as her father dictates or whether what she discovers and who she finds herself drawn to make her ditch her duty and instead choose her desire.

This sounds exactly like the type of story I want to read right now. And while I have a couple of books I’m in the midst of finishing, hopefully I’ll be able to sneak it onto the pile this weekend. If not, it will definitely be on the pile next week.

    Description…

Downton Abbey meets The Selection in this dystopian tale of love and betrayal

In a fragmented future United States ruled by the lavish gentry, seventeen-year-old Madeline Landry dreams of going to the university. Unfortunately, gentry decorum and her domineering father won’t allow that. Madeline must marry, like a good Landry woman, and run the family estate. But her world is turned upside down when she discovers the devastating consequences her lifestyle is having on those less fortunate.

As Madeline begins to question everything she has ever learned, she finds herself increasingly drawn to handsome, beguiling David Dana. Soon, rumors of war and rebellion start to spread, and Madeline finds herself and David at the center of it all. Ultimately, she must make a choice between duty – her family and the estate she loves dearly – and desire.

    Wild Things

    addtogoodreads

WILD THINGS by Chloe Neill will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by New American Library, the print edition is 368 pages.

WILD THINGS is the ninth book in Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series. BLOOD GAMES, the tenth book in the series, is slated for release on August 5, 2014.

    Dots_Divider

Of course I had WILD THINGS pre-ordered. If I could pre-order every single book that remains in the series I would do it right this minute. I love these characters and this series. So I am totally stoked that WILD THINGS will be living on my Kindle in just a few short hours.

I had hoped to finish reading this story on Saturday, but I didn’t get the chance to finish it, though it is a super quick read. I may have gotten distracted by a few real-life things, but I should be finished before my Kindle copy is added to my collection.

As expected it’s an exciting addition to the series. Merit is one of my favorite non-YA heroines and I love getting caught up in her crazy life for a few hours twice a year. While I know that some day this series will end, it won’t be ending anytime soon. And I’m already excited for BLOOD GAMES’ release this summer. Though I am not going to peek at the description until I’m done reading WILD THINGS.

    Description…

Since Merit was turned into a vampire, and the protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House, it’s been a wild ride. She and Master vampire Ethan Sullivan have helped make Cadogan’s vampires the strongest in North America, and forged ties with paranormal folk of all breeds and creeds, living or dead…or both.

But now those alliances are about to be tested. A strange and twisted magic has ripped through the North American Central Pack, and Merit’s closest friends are caught in the crosshairs. Gabriel Keene, the Pack Apex, looks to Merit and Ethan for help. But who—or what—could possibly be powerful enough to out-magic a shifter?

Merit is about to go toe to toe, and cold steel to cold heart, to find out.

    Be With Me Cover

    addtogoodreads

BE WITH ME by J. Lynn will be released in the U.S. on February 4, 2014 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in paperback and eBook formats BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by William Morrow Paperbacks, the print edition is 384 pages.

BE WITH ME is the second book J. Lynn’s Wait for You series. STAY WITH ME, the third book in the series, is slated for release in September 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I am thrilled that BE WITH ME is releasing this week and that it will be added to my collection some time tonight. While I have the eARC for review and devoured it in one sitting late Friday, I definitely wanted the finished copy for my collection.

It hasn’t been very long since I met these characters in the first book (and its companion) in the series, but I was thrilled to get the chance to get to know them better. And I absolutely adore them both.

And as I will be writing a review for this book this week and rambling probably a bit too much about just why this book is awesome for my post on Friday, I will just say that I never expected to love this book and characters as much as I loved WAIT FOR YOU and its characters, but I did. J. Lynn has this wonderful way of creating stories and characters that are just so easy to love.

Now I just have to survive the long, long wait for September’s release of STAY WITH ME.

It’s another crazy week for YA releases. Heck, it’s a crazy release week all around. I have eight YA books, two non-YA books and one novella (STOLEN) pre-ordered. There’s also the possibility that I have VENGEANCE on my list of pre-orders. If not, I plan on clicking to buy on its release date. That’s a lot to read.

I’m just glad I read a couple of these books and am currently reading a few. But that still leaves way too many TBR, though I will be reading IGNITE ME as soon as it downloads.

I am so glad that next week is much, much quieter. I have so much to do IRL between now and mid-February that I just know I’m going to fall behind on my reads. I am still hoping for “someday” to arrive so that I can finally get the chance to tackle a number of those books on my Kindle that are getting smooshed further and further down into the pile. I recognize, however, that “someday” isn’t going to be any day soon.

Anyway… I wish you a happy bookish acquiring week this week, and am sending out happy book birthday wishes to all the lovely books above. Here’s to another great week of book collecting and reading!

    blue_green_line2

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    My Reading Pile #151

    MYREADINGPILE

It was a much quieter week at the mailbox this week, but I’m really kind of glad. As I have barely made a dent in last week’s pile. But the one book I received by mail and the one book I received as an eGalley I’m totally stoked about.

    My Reading Pile 151

[Credit for mailbox sharing goes to The Story Siren]

I received an ARC of WILD THINGS by Chloe Neill thanks to Kt of A Book Obsession who knows what a huge fan I am of the author’s Chicagoland Vampires series. While the book releases on Tuesday, I will be reading it this weekend and getting it even just a little bit early to devour is awesome.

The cover may look a bit plain, but the stuff between the covers is anything but. And I cannot wait to dive into this on Saturday night. It’s the perfect weekend read.

    From Edelweiss

    The Art of Lainey

    Courtesy of HarperTeen…

I only grabbed one book from Edelweiss this week and it’s THE ART OF LAINEY by Paula Stokes. The author may have mentioned that it was available for review so I ran over and grabbed a copy. The story sounds like a lot of fun and I’m curious to see how the strategies from The Art of War apply to The Art of Lainey.

But that won’t be this week. As it releases in May I have just a little bit of time before I add it to the pile. With so many releases coming out this month I need to tackle some of them first.

And I’m being quite ambitious this week, because I’ve added THREE books to the pile and really plan on reading FOUR. (IGNITE ME releases this week, how can I not devour that the instant it lands on my Kindle.) So…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

    (February 2, 2014 – February 8, 2014)

The Unseemly Education of Anne Merchant

    add_purple

First up on the pile is THE UNSEEMLY EDUCATION OF ANNE MERCHANT by Joanna Wiebe. I purchased a copy on its release date and I’ve been dying to get the chance to read it ever since. And I may have gotten a bit of a jump start on it before officially adding it to the pile this week, even with the four other books I read this past week.

But at the time of this post I’m not so far along as to have determined what Cania Christy’s secrets are or what the challenges Anne will face in the Big V. I also don’t quite know why her father sent her there.

I do know that there’s definitely something creepy about the headmaster… shudder-worthy is actually probably more accurate a word. And I do know that things are not going to be easy for Anne.

And most of all I do know I want to finish with this post quickly so I can get back to reading. It’s that addictive a read.

    The Description…

So many secrets for such a small island. From the moment Anne Merchant arrives at Cania Christy, a boarding school for the world’s wealthiest teens, the hushed truths of this strange, unfamiliar land begin calling to her—sometimes as lulling drumbeats in the night, sometimes as piercing shrieks.

One by one, unanswered questions rise. No one will tell her why a line is painted across the island or why she is forbidden to cross it. Her every move—even her performance at the school dance—is graded as part of a competition to become valedictorian, a title that brings rewards no one will talk about. And Anne discovers that the parents of her peers surrender million-dollar possessions to enroll their kids in Cania Christy, leaving her to wonder what her lowly funeral director father could have paid to get her in… and why.

As a beautiful senior struggles to help Anne make sense of this cloak-and-dagger world without breaking the rules that bind him, she must summon the courage to face the impossible truth—and change it—before she and everyone she loves is destroyed by it.

    Wild Things

    add_purple

Next up on the pile is WILD THINGS by Chloe Neill. As I mentioned above, I received an ARC thanks to Kt of A Book Obsession this past week. And while WILD THINGS releases in just a few days, I will definitely have this read prior to its release date.

I love Ethan and Merit and the adventures they have to tackle in each of the books in this series. The hurdles they face just keep getting more deadly and I can’t wait to find out what happens in this next installment.

I have no idea what kind of magic can “out-magic a shifter” but before Sunday morning arrives I plan to have that answer. Not that I’m going to share that, of course. I’m not about the spoilers.

    The Description…

    Be With Me Cover

    add_purple

Third on the pile is BE WITH ME by J. Lynn. I received an eARC for review courtesy of the publisher, HarperCollins via Edelweiss, for the review tour I will be on this week. And I may have also started reading this just a bit early, too.

I have been a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout for the past few years. I’m a new fan of her writing as J. Lynn. I just recently discovered this series and devoured the first book and companion novel back-to-back and am so excited to be able to get the chance to read this next book about Tess.

Hints were dropped in TRUST IN ME about things that Jase is not saying. Peeks were given that there might have been something going on between these two. And I can’t wait to find out exactly what has been happening between them. I also hope to see Avery and Cameron again.

As I have a review stop for this tour on the 7th, I’ll definitely be finished with my read before then. I hope to be able to not only read this on Sunday but also write my review.

    The Description…

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

    Wishful Thinking Reads

My wishful thinking read is really less a wish and more a wish I could read it this minute. Because I definitely plan on reading IGNITE ME by Tahereh Mafi the moment it downloads to my Kindle. Even though I typically have “don’t let it end” syndrome (okay, so it’s not really a syndrome…) I will not have it for this series-ending book. Because I’m dying to know what happens. And I don’t want even a moment of it spoiled. I just wish I could read it right now. *SIGH.*

    line3_purple

    Those Left Behind

I had a great reading week this past week, though I didn’t yet finish THE SECRET DIAMOND SISTERS. As I have to review it, and have a little time to do so, I plan on finishing it later this week. After I get over my reviewer’s block and at the very least write my tour review for BE WITH ME.

I did read SWEET RECKONING by Wendy Higgins and finished CRUEL BEAUTY, HEARTBEAT and SOMETHING REAL. And, as I mentioned earlier, I started reading both BE WITH ME and THE UNSEEMLY EDUCATION OF ANNE MERCHANT.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be as successful this week. Though I really want to write a number of reviews. So we shall see.

Mid-week I have to start studying, so hopefully all reading and reviewing will be completed. Next weekend and the following week will be all about studying for the Coastal Navigation exam I have, so I definitely want to get some reading and reviewing done this week.

    NetGalley Pile Adds & Finds

I really tried to stay away from the online eGalley sites and I managed to do a decent job of it. Mostly. Aside from the one book I grabbed from Edelweiss, I did not spending time searching for potential new review books. (I think last week’s haul helped make that happen.)

But for the purposes of this post I did check out NetGalley and found a few new titles available to request. And they are…

NANTUCKET RED by Leila Howland (Disney Book Group, May 13 2014)

BURN (Pure #3) by Julianna Baggott (Headline, Feb 4 2014)

ENMITY by E.J. Andrews (Harlequin Enterprises Australia, Apr 1 2014) ***For Australian Reviewers ONLY***

    line3_purple

I think I managed to get back on track with my reading challenge this year… reads-wise anyway. I haven’t yet actually written a review, which is majorly disappointing. I have half-completed reviews for A LITTLE TOO HOT and UNINVITED and have thoughts mapped out in my head for DEFY, CRUEL BEAUTY, SOMETHING REAL and HEARTBEAT, but I can’t seem to focus when I sit down in front of my computer and start to write.

But it’s not just reviewer’s block I’m having. I’m struggling with all writing at the moment. I’m actually surprised I’m semi-coherent in these posts as my stream of consciousness rambling has been more than a bit all over the place lately. Even my rambles over on The Annex are a big fail. I stall out mid-post and just leave them in drafts. Or I find that I’m a bit too mean-sounding, like with my ramble about epilogues, which in my head sounded logical, but on the page sounds cruel.

I am hopeful of being able to write a few reviews this week, and I definitely have to review BE WITH ME for the tour, so I’m hoping that pressure kicks me in the a** enough to get over whatever block I’m having. I’m just so glad that it doesn’t extend to reading.

Because I am able to once again tumble easily into the books I’m reading, fall madly in love with most of them, and am ready to immediately jump into the next one without feeling a moment’s hesitation. So, that’s a good thing, right?

Anyway… I hope you had a non-quiet week at the mailbox and have a few books on the pile that you’ve been excited to read for awhile. As ever, I wish you a fantastic reading week ahead.

    Happy reading!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #158

    BookWatchRTWnew

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of January 7th-January 13th that I have pre-ordered.

    line2

    Unhinged

    addtogoodreads

UNHINGED by A.G. Howard will be released in the U.S. on January 7, 2014 in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Amulet Books, the print edition is 400 pages.

UNHINGED is the second book in Author A.G. Howard’s Splintered series. The third full-length book, ENSNARED, is slated for release in 2015.

    Dots_Divider

Ack! So excited that UNHINGED is releasing in just a couple days and everyone will get the chance to read this awesome sequel. A sequel that includes such amazing lines as, “Nothing can break the chains you have on my heart. For you are Wonderland.” A sequel that is all sorts of imaginative and unique and every bit as fan-freaking-tastic as I’d hoped it would be.

A sequel that I had to spotlight for my Book Watch post, even with all the amazing books releasing this week. A sequel I have pre-ordered in both eBook format and in print.

While I would love to go on and on about this magical and enchanting and captivating book, I already rambled about it a little in that post and I hope to talk more about it in my review. And since there are 36 other YA releases this week, eight more of which I have pre-ordered and plan to talk about, I am going to try to keep my rambling to a minimum.

But whether you are a fan of Morpheus or Jeb or Alyssa, there are all sorts of things to love, love, love about this book that will keep you completely and totally riveted from beginning to end.

    Description…

Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she’s always dreamed of.

That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.

As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.

If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she’ll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head.

INDEPENDENT STUDY by Joelle Charbonneau will be released in the U.S. on January 7, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

INDEPENDENT STUDY is the second book in Author Joelle Charbonneau’s The Testing series. The third and final full-length book in the series, GRADUATION DAY, is slated for release on June 3, 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I am super excited for the upcoming release of INDEPENDENT STUDY because I’m dying to talk to everyone about the thing that happened at the end. I was totally stoked to have had the chance to read it early thanks to Jaime of Two Chicks on Books after I was rejected for a review copy from Edelweiss and thought I’d have to wait for my Kindle pre-order to download on January 7th.

This was one of my favorite series last year to discover and the sequel did not disappoint. It kept me glued to each and every page before it practically annihilated me at the end. Wow. I did not see that coming. At all.

I am currently devouring GRADUATION DAY, hoping to finish it before the release of INDEPENDENT STUDY on Tuesday. I’ve heard the final book in the series is awesome and I can’t wait to see how things end.

As I’m on the blog tour for INDEPENDENT STUDY and my post should go up shortly after this one, there will be a few more rambles about this book in that next post, so I’ll just end this short ramble by saying this is a must read series.

    Description…

In the series debut The Testing, sixteen-year-old Cia Vale was chosen by the United Commonwealth government as one of the best and brightest graduates of all the colonies . . . a promising leader in the effort to revitalize postwar civilization. In Independent Study, Cia is a freshman at the University in Tosu City with her hometown sweetheart, Tomas—and though the government has tried to erase her memory of the brutal horrors of The Testing, Cia remembers. Her attempts to expose the ugly truth behind the government’s murderous programs put her—and her loved ones—in a world of danger. But the future of the Commonwealth depends on her.

    Defy

DEFY by Sara B. Larson will be released in the U.S. on January 7, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Scholastic Press, the print edition is 336 pages.

DEFY is the first book in Author Sara B. Larson’s series of the same name. The second book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release next year.

    Dots_Divider

I was totally thrilled to be able to grab an eARC of DEFY through NetGalley. I had heard this book was amazing so I pre-ordered it for my Kindle collection to have forever whether I got the chance to read it early or not. And while I’m not quite finished at the time of preparing this post – I’m at the 85% mark at the moment – I am loving it so far.

Secrets, assassins, sorcerers, hidden motives and plenty of action make this one heck of an exciting read. A main character who is fierce but also sympathetic and likable makes this a must read. And a prince who is quite the surprise is a total bonus.

So… yeah… I guess you could say that I love this book. So far.

With just 15% left to read, I want to get finished with this post so I can do just that. Because it’s just so good I really did not want to have to put it down.

    Description…

A lush and gorgeously written debut, packed with action, intrigue, and a thrilling love triangle.

Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king’s army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince’s guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can’t prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.

The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she’s sworn to protect?

Published by Walker Childrens, the print edition is 496 pages.

A BREATH OF FROST is the first book in Author Alyxandra Harvey’s The Lovegrove Legacy.

    Dots_Divider

I am such a huge fan of Author Alyxandra Harvey’s and I am super excited for the release of A BREATH OF FROST on Tuesday. I have had it pre-ordered for my Kindle for ages and ages and I cannot wait until the finished copy downloads.

While I have an eARC that I am also in the middle of reading – yes I’m reading a few books all at once this weekend – this is a book I want to have for my collection. Scratch that. Must have for my collection. I have every one of this author’s books on my Kindle and have read most of them. So there’s no way I wouldn’t have ordered the finished copy.

But I love this setting and the idea of the story. I love the characters I’ve gotten the chance to meet so far. I can’t wait to see how this story develops and how it ends, which should happen before its release on Monday Midnight.

I’m just super curious to find out whether I’ll be stuck on the edge of a cliff until the sequel.

    Description…

In 1814, three cousins-Gretchen, Emma, and Penelope-discover their unknown family lineage of witchcraft. Beyond the familiar manicured gardens and ballrooms of Regency London, a dangerous, alluring new underworld visible only to those with power is now open to the cousins.

But unbeknownst to them, by claiming their power, the three cousins have inadvertently opened the gates to the Underworld.

Now the dead, ghouls, hellhounds-and the most terrifying of all: the spirits of dark witches known as the Greymalkin Sisters-are hunting and killing young debutante witches for their powers.

And, somehow, Emma is connected to the murders…because she keeps finding the bodies.

Can the cousins unravel the clues and mystery behind their heritage and power before their gifts are stripped away …or even worse, another witch is killed?

    Erased

    addtogoodreads

ERASED by Jennifer Rush will be released in the U.S. on January 7, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 288 pages.

ERASED is the second full-length book in Author Jennifer Rush’s Altered series. The third book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2015.

    Dots_Divider

ALTERED was a book I was desperate to get my hands on and tried to read the moment it downloaded to my Kindle. While I wasn’t able to dive into a book that wasn’t a review book at that time, it’s one of those books I regret not having read from 2013. Yet.

So of course I had to purchase the novella and pre-order ERASED, even without having read book one. I just know I’m going to love it and want to have each one of the stories in this series on hand when I’m done reading it.

And as much as I’m dying to take a sneak peek at this book’s description, to find out what might be revealed about the events in ALTERED, I am not going to look. So I don’t know what’s going to happen in this sequel, what happened in the first book and whether all the characters – Anna, Nick, Cas, Trev and Sam – survived.

If things settle down toward the end of the month, I am hopeful that I’ll be able to read both books and the novella. Though I really wish they were a little quieter right now. Waiting sucks.

    Description…

They thought they had escaped. They were wrong.

After fleeing the Branch with Sam, Cas, and Nick, Anna is trying to make sense of the memories resurfacing from her old life. At the same time, she’s learning how to survive in hiding, following Sam’s rules: Don’t draw attention to yourself. Always carry a weapon. Know your surroundings. Watch your back.

Then a figure from Anna’s childhood reappears. Is it a Branch setup, or could it be the reunion Anna has hoped for? Uncertain of where her loyalties lie, Anna must fight to learn the truth — before she is betrayed again. Ultimately, the answers hinge on one question: What was the real reason her memories were erased?

Jennifer Rush delivers a thrilling sequel to Altered in a novel packed with mysteries, lies, and surprises that are sure to keep readers guessing until the last age is turned.

    Where You'll Find Me

WHERE YOU’LL FIND ME by Erin Fletcher will be released in the U.S. on January 7, 2014 in eBook format only. It is currently available to pre-order online at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Entangled Teen, the story is 211 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I only recently learned of WHERE YOU’LL FIND ME when I saw the cover for this book for the reveal put together by Rockstar Book Tours. I loved the cover, but when I read the description I love, love, loved the story and immediately pre-ordered it for my Kindle.

And I can’t wait for its release this week. I want to meet Hanley and Nate. I want to find out why Nate is hiding in her garage. I want to know what she’s running from. And I want to know whether their love story is one that ends happily or tragically or somewhere in between.

I’ve been on such a contemporary kick as of late and this book sounds like just the kind of book I’m desperately in the mood to read. If all goes well this week, and I finish all the various books I’m currently reading and the next one up on the pile, I hope I’ll be able to squeeze this in.

When Hanley Helton discovers a boy living in her garage, she knows she should kick him out. But Nate is too charming to be dangerous. He just needs a place to get away, which Hanley understands. Her own escape methods (vodka, black hair dye, and pretending the past didn’t happen) are more traditional, but who is she to judge?

Nate doesn’t tell her why he’s in her garage, and she doesn’t tell him what she’s running from. Soon, Hanley’s trading her late-night escapades for all-night conversations and stolen kisses. But when Nate’s recognized as the missing teen from the news, Hanley isn’t sure which is worse: that she’s harboring a fugitive, or that she’s in love with one.

    Dots_Divider

I first learned about THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY when I received an ARC for review a couple of months back. And while I haven’t yet had the chance to read it, I did pre-order a copy for my Kindle because I know this author is a fantastic writer and I wanted to have a copy of her next book in my collection.

I had every intention of reading this book prior to its release and was excited to have received the chance to do so early. But due to some real life difficult stuffs going on I wasn’t able to read for awhile and am still a bit I was wary about reading books with anything but light storylines.

But I definitely plan on reading this story and meeting Hayley and her father Andy. I want to find out whether Andy’s return home will be a positive experience rather than a negative one. And I want to know whether there will be a love story with Finn and Hayley.

The description promises a read that is “compelling, surprising, and impossible to put down” and I am hopeful of being able to discover this for myself later this month.

    Description…

For the past five years, Hayley Kincaid and her father, Andy, have been on the road, never staying long in one place as he struggles to escape the demons that have tortured him since his return from Iraq. Now they are back in the town where he grew up so Hayley can attend school. Perhaps, for the first time, Hayley can have a normal life, put aside her own painful memories, even have a relationship with Finn, the hot guy who obviously likes her but is hiding secrets of his own.

Will being back home help Andy’s PTSD, or will his terrible memories drag him to the edge of hell, and drugs push him over? The Impossible Knife of Memory is Laurie Halse Anderson at her finest: compelling, surprising, and impossible to put down.

    SALT-COVER-FINAL-500

SALT by Danielle Ellison will be released in the U.S. on January 7, 2014 in eBook format only. It is currently available to pre-order online at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Entangled Teen, the book is 250 pages.

SALT is the first book in a new series by the same name by Author Danielle Ellison.

    Dots_Divider

SALT is another book I got the chance to learn more about when I revealed its cover just last month. And when I did and also heard that this book was awesome I decided to pre-order a copy for my Kindle.

I am very curious about this book and what its title means to the story. I am curious about how Penelope can use her sister’s magic to hide the loss of her own. And I’m curious to find out what Carter’s secret is.

But I’m most curious about what the demons want with Penelope and what their agenda really is.

If my reading pile isn’t too crowded in early February, I hope to be able to read SALT then. Though as it is the first book in a series, I really should try and wait until closer to the sequel’s release to read it in order to make things easier on myself. But that’s not going to happen.

    Description…

Penelope is a witch, part of a secret society protecting humans from demon attacks. But when she was a child, a demon killed her parents—and stole her magic. Since then, she’s been pretending to be something she’s not, using her sister’s magic to hide her own loss, to prevent being sent away.

When she’s finally given the chance to join the elite demon-hunting force, Penelope thinks that will finally change. With her sister’s help, she can squeeze through the tests and get access to the information she needs to find “her” demon. To take back what was stolen.

Then she meets Carter. He’s cute, smart, and she can borrow his magic, too. He knows her secret—but he also has one of his own.

Suddenly, Penelope’s impossible quest becomes far more complicated. Because Carter’s not telling her everything, and it’s starting to seem like the demons have their own agenda…and they’re far too interested in her.

    The Killing Woods

THE KILLING WOODS by Lucy Christopher will be released in the U.S. on January 7, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Chicken House, the print edition is 387 pages.

    Dots_Divider

Lucy Christoper is an amazing writer and when I learned of THE KILLING WOODS’ release I instantly added it to my list of pre-orders for my Kindle. I was totally envious that it got released over three months ago in the UK and I was so very tempted to see if I could get a print copy of the UK edition so I wouldn’t have to wait.

But now the wait is almost over and I’ll be able to find out what happened to Ashlee Parker, find out whether Emily’s dad is innocent, find out whether Ashlee’s boyfriend knows something or whether he’s playing deadly games with Emily.

I am super curious to see how the author approaches this story, whether her writing will pull me immediately in, and whether I’ll be able to discover the truth about what happened before the story reaches its end.

    Description…

Fatal attraction, primal fear, survival in the forest: From the author of the Printz Honor Book STOLEN, the highly anticipated thriller about deadly games played in the dark.

Ashlee Parker is dead, and Emily Shepherd’s dad is accused of the crime. A former soldier suffering from PTSD, he emerges from the woods carrying the girl’s broken body. “Gone,” he says, then retreats into silence.

What really happened that wild night? Emily knows in her bones that her father is innocent — isn’t he? Before he’s convicted, she’s got to find out the truth. Does Damon Hilary, Ashlee’s charismatic boyfriend, have the answers? Or is he only playing games with her — the kinds of games that can kill?

    Giveaway: Biting Bad

    Biting Bad

    addtogoodreads

Today is the book birthday for BITING BAD, the eighth book in Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series and I’m super excited for its release. I absolutely love this series and this eighth installment was the perfect addition to the series.

Merit is such a kick-a** heroine and she’s every bit as awesome in this book as she has been in every single book. But I think I adore her even more because of the choice she made in BITING BAD. And no, I am not going to say what that was.

I know this isn’t a YA book, and I probably should be offering this up for giveaway on FAD, but I couldn’t resist offering this new release book in a series that I find so very addictive for giveaway here on Fiktshun.

For those readers who have already met Merit, Ethan, the Cadogan House Vampires and the rest of the characters in this series, BITING BAD is a book not to be missed. And for those readers who haven’t yet “met” these characters, what are you waiting for? This series ROCKS!

It’s got a fierce heroine in Merit, a very yummy Master Vampire named Ethan, a supporting cast of characters that are always entertaining, sometimes frustrating and incredibly likable. And each book has mystery, action and a touch of heat. Perfect.

Merit has been a vampire for only a short while, but she’s already seen a lifetime’s worth of trouble. She and her Master, centuries-old Ethan Sullivan, have risked their lives time and again to save the city they love. But not all of Chicago is loving them back.

Anti-vampire riots are erupting all over town, striking vampires where it hurts the most. A splinter group armed with Molotov cocktails and deep-seated hate is intent on clearing the fanged from the Windy City come hell or high water.

Merit and her allies rush to figure out who’s behind the attacks, who will be targeted next, and whether there’s any way to stop the wanton destruction. The battle for Chicago is just beginning, and Merit is running out of time.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #136

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of August 6th-August 12th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    Elegy

    addtogoodreads

ELEGY by Amanda Hocking will be released in the U.S. on August 6, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 560 pages.

ELEGY is the fourth and final full-length book in author Amanda Hocking’s Watersong series.

    Line_001

I am super excited that the final book in Amanda Hocking’s Watersong series releases this week and will be added to my collection in just a few short hours. I loved the first book in the series and have been dying to get the remaining books on the pile so that I could read them all at once.

One of the things I adore about this author is that she doesn’t go the stereotypical route with her books. Especially when it comes to her series-ending books. The choices she has her characters make are the right ones for them, even if they’re not the most popular with her readers. So I’m very curious to find out what happens with Gemma at the end of this series.

I refuse to read the description for this final book, as it will spoil the two previous books in the series that I haven’t yet read. But I can’t wait to find out whether Gemma will be able to return home and to see how everything ends.

I hope to be able to start – and finish – the remaining books in this series some time next week. So the wait for answers shouldn’t be much longer.

    Biting Bad

    addtogoodreads

BITING BAD by Chloe Neill will be released in the U.S. on August 6, 2013 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by NAL Trade, the print edition is 368 pages.

BITING BAD is the eighth book in Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series. The ninth book in the series, WILD THINGS, is slated for release on February 4, 2014. A novella set between books eight and nine, HOWLING FOR YOU, is due out on January 7th of next year. And the tenth installment in the series, BLOOD GAMES, will be releasing in August 2014.

    Line_001

I cannot wait for everyone to read BITING BAD. I loved this installment in the series, which I got the chance to read a bit early thanks to Kt of A Book Obsession. And I want to be able to talk to everyone about what happened right there at the end.

As I already spotlighted it for my Book Watch post a couple weeks ago, and I plan on posting my thoughts about this installment in the next couple of days, I don’t want to say much more other than that this was such an awesome installment. It had everything I’ve come to expect in this series. The mystery element kept me guessing. And I couldn’t get enough of Ethan and Merit.

Of course I want to know what happens next, as I’m sure those who haven’t yet read BITING BAD do. But the ending of this book leaves the door open for so very many possibilities, way more than the end of book seven. Which makes me even more eager for WILD THINGS.

And it really makes me want to go back and re-read the series from the beginning. Which is something I hope to do this summer.

    Infinityglass

    addtogoodreads

INFINITYGLASS by Myra McEntire will be released in the U.S. on August 6, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by EgmontUSA, the print edition is

INFINITYGLASS is the third book in author Myra McEntire’s Hourglass series.

    Line_001

When INFINITYGLASS releases in just a few short hours I will own each of the books in the series. What I can’t believe is that I haven’t yet read any of them. Because I know for a fact that this book is amazing. Trusted blogger friends told me so.

And I know that I’ve wanted to read this series and meet Emerson and Michael and learn about the Hourglass since before the first book was released.

I have no idea whether this third book in the series is the last, but I’m thinking about diving in and reading all three books even if there are plans for more. Because I feel at such a huge disadvantage for not having read these books. And I feel a sense of loss for not having met these characters.

I have no plans to read the description for this book, and while I recall having read the description for the second book at some point after its release, it has been almost a year. So I’m fortunate that I don’t remember exactly what it said. Because I much prefer to read without knowing a thing about where the story may lead.

As much as I’d love to read all three books this week, it will probably be a few weeks before I can add all three to the pile. But I definitely plan on reading them before my TBR Pile Reading Challenge post on September 20th. Even if I don’t get the chance to review them.

    [END OF UPDATE]

    div1

I was so sure I had a ton of books pre-ordered this week. But it seems I only have two YA titles and one UF title getting added to my collection. Of course I may have a couple more books on order, but I won’t know until they download on Tuesday.

And while I don’t have A TALE OF TWO CENTURIES pre-ordered, I do own the first book in that series and will likely add it to my collection later this week. I also think I’ll be adding OUT OF PLAY to my collection as that tagline has me intrigued.

I’ve just been trying to keep my book buying budget down, especially with jam-packed release weeks coming up on August 27th and September 3rd. But I am an impulse shopper when it comes to books. So I don’t think I’ll be able to resist one-click ordering both of these books.

But what about you? Are there any books you’ve pre-ordered or have on your wish list that are releasing this week? Are there any books you hadn’t realized were releasing but now can’t wait to rush out and buy?

And are you a Chicagoland Vampires fan like I am? Are you absolutely dying to find out what happens in BITING BAD? Are you so incredibly excited that the wait is finally over, after having been tormented mercilessly by Chloe Neill’s teasers and comments on her Facebook page these past few months?

If you have been suffering the wait for any of the books releasing this week, I would love to know!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    Book Watch: Biting Bad

    Biting Bad

    addtogoodreads

    WatchBOOK-2

BITING BAD by Chloe Neill will be released in the U.S. on August 6, 2013 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE. (The audiobook at B&N.)

Published by NAL Trade, the print edition is 368 pages.

BITING BAD is the eighth book in Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series. The ninth book, WILD THINGS, is slated for release on February 4, 2014, and the tenth book, as yet untitled, will also be available in 2014.

A novella, HOWLING FOR YOU, about Jeff Christopher, is available for pre-order in eBook format, and will be released on January 7, 2014.

    div1

I know BITING BAD is not a YA release and that I should probably be spotlighting one of the two YA releases that I’m super excited for instead. But I’m a die-hard fan of Ethan and Merit and I just had to choose BITING BAD as the book to watch for the week of August 6th. Because it is the book whose release I am most excited for.

Although, thanks to the very awesome Kt at A Book Obsession, I don’t have to wait until its release day to read it. In fact I’ll likely have finished reading BITING BAD before this post goes live. But that doesn’t mean I’m any less excited for my pre-order to download to my Kindle so that it can join the rest of the Chicagoland Vampires series.

I absolutely loved the author’s YA series, it’s what drew me to her urban fantasy/paranormal romance series in the first place. Her writing is so very incredibly addictive. Her stories are exciting and just so easy to devour. And her characters are wildly appealing. Merit is a kick-a** heroine and Ethan is… well, he’s Ethan. What is not to love about Darth Sullivan?

While it is a book aimed at an adult audience, the story focuses on the Urban Fantasy aspect more than on the romance. Which means that I can read these books anywhere without blushing and furtively glancing over my shoulder, even during the sexy times. And which means that every time I dive into the next installment I know it’s going to be action-packed.

But back to BITING BAD and why I just had to put it in the spotlight this week. Things are really heating up for the Cadogan Vampires in this installment. Chicago is becoming even more of a battleground. Tensions between humans and vampires are at an all-time high. And with a mystery as to who’s behind the attacks, this installment has it all.

So, of course I can’t wait to find out how it all ends. Of course I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble Merit finds herself in, and whether she’s able to pull herself out before something really bad happens. Of course I can’t wait to see if Mallory succumbs to the dark magic. And of course I can’t wait to read more about the always delectable, at times infuriating, and on occasion “stodgy” Master Vampire of Cadogan House.

And while I am incredibly excited to see how the Watersong series ends and to finally meet the characters in Myra McEntire’s Hourglass series, I couldn’t resist putting BITING BAD in the spotlight this week. Because it is the series that I have loved the longest. It is the series that has left me emotionally destroyed like I’ve been in no other series but Vampire Academy and Soul Screamers.

And it is the series that has one of most my favorite character couples in fiction. The fact that they’re vampires is a major plus. The fact that one of them carries a katana also adds to the appeal. The fact that their chemistry is electric, makes them irresistible.

With all of that, how could I not choose BITING BAD as the book to watch for the week of August 6th? There’s just no way.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #110

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of February 5th-February 11th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    Scarlet

SCARLET by Marissa Meyer will be released in the U.S. on February 5, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Feiwel & Friends, the print edition is 464 pages.

SCARLET is the second book in author Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles. The third book in the series, CRESS, is slated for release in 2014, and the fourth book in the series, WINTER, is slated for release in 2015.

    Line_001

I cannot believe that SCARLET is releasing this week. I had it on my pile to be read. Twice. And I didn’t get a chance to read it early. And now, of course, I’ll have the finished copy downloading to my Kindle on Tuesday.

I’ve been dying to read this second book in the author’s The Lunar Chronicles since the moment I finished reading – and listening to – CINDER. I was so surprised and amazed by that book that I couldn’t believe I had to wait for over a year for the second installment. Well, apparently I did survive the long wait. No one could be more shocked than I am.

But now that it’s releasing I’m even more desperate for the chance to meet Scarlet Benoit and Wolf and see just what’s been happening with Cinder. And I am anxious to find out whether or not the Lunar Queen has managed to entrap Prince Kai.

SCARLET sounds like another awesome story in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and I cannot wait to see what the author does with her versions of these characters in this book.

While I won’t get the chance to add SCARLET to the pile this week, I’m hoping to read it at the end of the month.

    Unravel Me

UNRAVEL ME by Tahereh Mafi will be released in the U.S. on February 5, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperCollins, the print edition is 480 pages.

UNRAVEL ME is the second full-length book in author Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me series. The third book in the series, as yet untitled, is slated for release in November 2013.

    Line_001

I am so unbelievably psyched for UNRAVEL ME to download to my Kindle this week. I’d given away my ARC months ago and I desperately want to re-read this story. I miss Warner and Adam and I want to see if my memory of everything that happened in this second book in the series is correct or if it got somehow skewed with the passage of time.

As I read this book ages ago I can’t pretend to guess at what happened. I know what happened. And I know just how things ended. I also know just how torturous the wait will be for the next installment in the series. Because there are just so many directions that third book can take. So. Many. Directions.

I could go on. And on. And on about just what happened in this book, how I have all the words to talk about what went on with… and how I have all the feels about….

But it would spoil the entire read. Especially if I were to talk about this one particular scene…. Yeah, I probably shouldn’t do that.

And as I already spotlighted UNRAVEL ME for my Book Watch post a couple of weeks ago, I won’t ramble on about just how excited I am for its release. How Juliette’s decisions might very well “involve choosing between her heart–and Adam’s life.” And how much of a role Warner plays in this sequel.

And, even though I read UNRAVEL ME, there is no question I will be re-reading it this month. And possibly again next month. And the one after that. And on. And on. And on….

    Etiquette and Espionage

ETIQUETTE & ESPIONAGE by Gail Carriger will be released in the U.S. on February 5, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

ETIQUETTE & ESPIONAGE is the first book in the author’s Finishing School series. The second book in the series, CURTSIES & CONSPIRACIES, is slated for release in November 2013.

    Line_001

I have ETIQUETTE & ESPIONAGE on my reading pile this week. But I am so tempted to read the finished eBook copy when it downloads to my Kindle so I don’t accidentally bend one of the pages in the very gorgeous ARC I have.

I am so glad to finally be able to read this awesome-sounding book, to meet Sophronia, to step inside the Finishing School, and to see just how prepared she will be for a life of “deceit” and “espionage.”

I cannot imagine this world that seems to teach two diametrically opposing things to these young girls. But I can’t wait to immerse myself in it and find out just how they do it.

I haven’t read the author’s Parasol Protectorate series, but it seems that this series can stand on its own. And I cannot wait to start reading this book in the next couple of days.

    02

There are a ton of new books releasing this week, but I’ve only pre-ordered three of them… and the one non-YA read I’ve listed, HOUSE RULES. So, I suppose, that’s technically four.

I’m trying so very hard to reduce my book binging, but it’s not easy. Especially when there are books like HYSTERIA just begging to be added to my collection. Or the latest book in The Lying Game series. Or even Ally Carter’s Heist Society, whose earlier books I own but have yet to read.

But as I’ve purchased a ton of new books these past few weeks, I’m hoping to wait until after release date before I make any new bookish purchases beyond the four pre-orders. I want to give myself a little more time to decide if they’re books I must have in my collection, ones I want to have in my collection, or if they’re simply ones I’m just mildly curious about.

Still… I’m almost positive I will be adding HYSTERIA to my collection this week. In fact, I may end up pre-ordering it as soon as I finish writing this post….

    Anyway….

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting UNRAVEL ME’s release date, I hope you’ll be able to add it to your collection this week and that you won’t have to wait weeks and weeks for it to show up.

It is every bit as amazing as it sounds… and then some… and some more after that.

But I should probably wrap this up before I go on another gush-fest like I did back in July on The Annex. I will just say that any fears I had about its awesomeness were quickly set aside as soon as I started reading.

So… I hope you have an amazing reading and book buying week this week and that you have a few titles you’re adding to your collection. If there are any I missed, please let me know!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
