I am so totally excited that in just a few hours my Kindle copy of SPLIT SECOND will download and I’ll be able to read it. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for its release and it is finally, finally, just about here.

As I have spotlighted it for my Book Watch post and I will likely be gushing about it anywhere and everywhere, I don’t want to ramble on for too long now.

But I will say again that this is my most anticipated read this week. I love, love, LOVED the first book in this series, and I am so very curious about how this sequel will end. I’m not sure whether I want the ending to be as killer as the last book’s ending. In some way I do, but in a completely other way i really don’t.

While I have another book I will be reading this week, I can’t resist moving this one immediately onto the pile and hopefully will have much of it read by Tuesday.

    Description…

Life can change in a split second.

Addie hardly recognizes her life since her parents divorced. Her boyfriend used her. Her best friend betrayed her. She can’t believe this is the future she chose. On top of that, her ability is acting up. She’s always been able to Search the future when presented with a choice. Now she can manipulate and slow down time, too . . . but not without a price.

When Addie’s dad invites her to spend her winter break with him, she jumps at the chance to escape into the Norm world of Dallas, Texas. There she meets the handsome and achingly familiar Trevor. He’s a virtual stranger to her, so why does her heart do a funny flip every time she sees him? But after witnessing secrets that were supposed to stay hidden, Trevor quickly seems more suspicious of Addie than interested in her. And she has an inexplicable desire to change that.

Meanwhile, her best friend, Laila, has a secret of her own: she can restore Addie’s memories . . . once she learns how. But there are powerful people who don’t want to see this happen. Desperate, Laila tries to manipulate Connor, a brooding bad boy from school—but he seems to be the only boy in the Compound immune to her charms. And the only one who can help her.

As Addie and Laila frantically attempt to retrieve the lost memories, Addie must piece together a world she thought she knew before she loses the love she nearly forgot . . . and a future that could change everything.

ALL THAT GLOWS by Ryan Graudin will be released in the U.S. on February 11, 2014 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 480 pages.

    Dots_Divider

I can’t believe I didn’t grab an early copy of ALL THAT GLOWS but I am stoked that my Kindle pre-order will be downloading soon. As I just rambled about this book’s release on my tour stop earlier today, I really don’t want to be too repetitive.

But I am really excited about discovering a story that I’m told is totally sweet and romantic. It will be the perfect Valentine’s Day read if I can sneak it onto the pile at the end of the week.

I love stories of magic, the Fae and princes. The fact that this particular prince is a “partying bad boy” makes me even more thrilled to meet him. And the fact that there is a touch of darkness in this story makes this a definite must read for me.

I hope to sneak this onto the pile at week’s end, but if I actually spend time studying like I should be doing, then I might not get this on the pile until next week.

    Description…

Emrys—a fiery, red-headed Fae—always embraced her life in the Highlands, far from the city’s draining technology, until she’s sent to London to rejoin the Faery Guard. But this isn’t any normal assignment—she’s sent to guard Prince Richard: Britain’s notorious, partying bad boy and soon-to-be King. The prince’s careless ways and royal blood make him the irresistible for the dark spirits that feed on mortals. Sweet, disheveled, and alive with adventure—Richard is one charge who will put Emrys’s magic and heart to the test.

When an ancient force begins preying on the monarchy, Emrys must hunt through the London’s magical underworld, facing down Banshees, Black Dogs and Green Women to find the one who threatens Richard’s life. In this chaos of dark magic, palace murders and paparazzi, Emrys finds herself facing an impossible choice. For despite all her powers, Emrys has discovered a force that burns brighter than magic: love.

    Three

    addtogoodreads

THREE by Kristen Simmons will be released in the U.S. on February 11, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Tor Teen, the print edition is 384 pages.

THREE is the third book in Author Kristen Simmons’ Article 5 series.

    Dots_Divider

I’ve had THREE pre-ordered since last summer and I’m super excited that it will finally be added to my collection this week. While I am seriously behind on this series by Author Kristen Simmons, I just had to pre-order this newest installment.

But I don’t want to take a peek at the description to find out where this story picks up. I don’t want to know what’s been happening with Ember and Chase. I don’t want to know if this is the final book in the Article 5 series.

And I really don’t want to accidentally spoil something major. So, yes, I am squinting as I type this so I don’t inadvertently read what I’ve pasted just below.

As I am a bit behind on this series, I won’t be adding THREE to my reading pile in the next couple of weeks. But if things slow down just a bit I hope to get caught up some time in April.

    Description…

Ember Miller and Chase Jennings are ready to stop running. After weeks spent in hiding as two of the Bureau of Reformation’s most wanted criminals, they have finally arrived at the safe house, where they hope to live a safe and quiet existence.

And all that’s left is smoking ruins.

Devastated by the demolition of their last hope, Ember and Chase follow the only thing left to them—tracks leading away from the wreckage. The only sign that there may have been survivors.

With their high profile, they know they can’t stay out in the open for long. They take shelter in the wilderness and amidst the ruins of abandoned cities as they follow the tracks down the coast, eventually finding refugees from the destroyed safe house. Among them is someone from Chase’s past—someone he never thought he’d see again.

Banding together, they search for a place to hide, aiming for a settlement a few of them have heard about…a settlement that is rumored to house the nebulous organization known as Three. The very group that has provided Ember with a tiny ray of hope ever since she was first forced on the run.

Three is responsible for the huge network of underground safe houses and resistance groups across the country. And they may offer Ember her only chance at telling the world her story.

    At fighting back.

    White Space

    addtogoodreads

WHITE SPACE by Ilsa J. Bick will be released in the U.S. on February 11, 2014 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by EgmontUSA, the print edition is 560 pages.

WHITE SPACE is the first book in Author Ilsa J. Bick’s new Dark Passages series. The second book in the series, THE DICKENS MIRROR, is slated for release in 2015.

    Dots_Divider

Oh. My. Gosh. I have been waiting forever for WHITE SPACE to release. And I can’t believe it will be in my collection in a matter of hours. The description for this book is completely and totally epic and I can’t wait to discover its dark amazingness.

This sounds totally chilling, totally dark, totally creepy. I love, love, love Memento and Inception which this book’s description references. I was completely sold when I read the words “deadly and horrifying world exists in the space between the written lines” – how perfect is that!?!

And I am just dying to be able to finally get the chance to read this book.

As this is a fairly lengthy tome and I have got to spend some time studying this week and I just know I would end up staying up all night reading this story, I have got to wait until next week to dive in. But I really, really want to read it the instant it downloads. It sounds like a total mind… bender.

    Description…

In the tradition of Memento and Inception comes a thrilling and scary young adult novel about blurred reality where characters in a story find that a deadly and horrifying world exists in the space between the written lines.

Seventeen-year-old Emma Lindsay has problems: a head full of metal, no parents, a crazy artist for a guardian whom a stroke has turned into a vegetable, and all those times when she blinks away, dropping into other lives so ghostly and surreal it’s as if the story of her life bleeds into theirs. But one thing Emma has never doubted is that she’s real.

Then she writes “White Space,” a story about these kids stranded in a spooky house during a blizzard.

Unfortunately, “White Space” turns out to be a dead ringer for part of an unfinished novel by a long-dead writer. The manuscript, which she’s never seen, is a loopy Matrix meets Inkheart story in which characters fall out of different books and jump off the page. Thing is, when Emma blinks, she might be doing the same and, before long, she’s dropped into the very story she thought she’d written. Trapped in a weird, snow-choked valley, Emma meets other kids with dark secrets and strange abilities: Eric, Casey, Bode, Rima, and a very special little girl, Lizzie. What they discover is that they–and Emma–may be nothing more than characters written into being from an alternative universe for a very specific purpose.

Now what they must uncover is why they’ve been brought to this place–a world between the lines where parallel realities are created and destroyed and nightmares are written–before someone pens their end.

    Pieces of Me

    addtogoodreads

PIECES OF ME by Amber Kizer will be released in the U.S. on February 11, 2014 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Delacorte Press, the print edition is 304 pages.

    Dots_Divider

When I read the description for PIECES OF ME I was totally intrigued and because I love the author’s writing I added it to my list of pre-orders. And I’m thrilled that it is releasing this week.

I am curious to find out whether this story is about posthumous self-discovery or whether it has more of a sci-fi bent… or whether it has a bit of both. The only types of stories I have heard of that involve the concept of cell memory are all horror stories, so I’m very interested in seeing if this story is just a bit different.

The tagline leads me to believe it’s something new, something heartwarming. So I can’t wait to get the chance to get this on the pile and find out. And if I don’t take on any more review books in the next couple of weeks, I hope to be able to add this to the pile in early April.

    Description…

When high school oddball and introvert Jessica Chai is killed in a car accident, her parents decide that Jessica would have wanted her organs donated to those who so desperately need these gifts of life. But Jessica is angry about dying and being dismembered.

Taking the idea of cell memory to the next level, not only do the recipients get pieces of Jessica, but gets pieces of their memories and lives moving forward—she knows what they know and keeps tabs on their growth, recovery, and development. This begins her journey to learn her purpose as she begins to grasp that her ties to these teenagers goes beyond random weirdness. It’s through their lives that Jessica learns about herself, as she watches the lives she literally touched continue to interlock.

I’m pretty sure I only have the five books and two novellas pre-ordered this week. Which makes me really happy, even though I haven’t read any of them. While all five novels may be TBR pile adds, for the first time in a long while my wallet will get a bit of a break. Though I am eyeing at least three books on the “Other Books of Note” list….

THE GLASS CASKET has been just begging me to click to buy, as has been ARCADIA FALLS and THE WORLDS WE MAKE. I’m not sure I’ll have the strength to resist. Especially as next weekend is a long weekend and I potentially have jury duty to sit through the following week.

And the longer I look at FATES the more my resistance begins to crumble. *SIGH.*

But for now I just have five books and two novellas pre-ordered. So that’s not such a bad thing. Even if I totally cave and add those other four books to the pile this week. Right?

    Anyway…

I hope that there are a number of books releasing this week that you’ve had on your radar and will now have in your collection. And I hope that when you do get to take them off the TBR pile that they are every bit as amazing as you’d hoped they’d be.

And if they’re just temporarily being loaned to you, I hope you don’t have to wait too long to devour them. Because I know just how much waiting sucks. So I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

    Happy reading!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

    My Reading Pile #24

Well, although my mail is still MIA with a few of the books I’m expecting, I did get a bunch of my much anticipated books this week. Especially those that I bought for giveaway.

I was so excited to hear my signed copies of Bloodlines by Richelle Mead had shipped from University Bookstore. The one on the bottom of the pile is mine, then one for a friend, and finally the one in today’s giveaway is on top.

Also, I received three of my early copies of Witch Eyes by Scott Tracey, which I ordered from Flux. Amazon used UPS so I won’t get the rest until Monday. But I love the finished copy, it’s absolutely gorgeous. And way prettier than the ARC was.

I received a copy of Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi from the publisher, HarperTeen, for review and I love the shiny cover. I’ve heard such amazing things about this book and I can’t wait to read it. I also received a finished copy of Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik from HarperTeen for review and I’m excited to see if this modernized version of Pride and Prejudice will pique my interest in the Victorian Era classics. Plus, I love the title.

Finally up is my very first audiobook I received for review by Macmillan Audio. It’s Dreamland by Alyson Noel. It wasn’t the audiobook I was expecting, but I’m excited to check this out, though I haven’t yet read the first two books in the series.

I can’t wait to read Bloodlines and re-read (for the third time) Witch Eyes, but they’ll have to wait, as…

Here are the books I have in my reading pile this week.

    (August 28-September 3 2011)

    ***

First up is Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik. I received a finished copy from the publisher, HarperTeen, last week for review and I’m excited to dive into this story which modernizes Pride and Prejudice.

I’m not a huge fan of stories from the Victorian Era, so I’m trying to read updated versions of them and this sounds adorable. Plus, I love the title Epic Fail.

Epic Fail sounds like a super fast and fun read. Elise, the main character, is attending the prep school in Los Angeles where her father is the principal and has to deal with all that entails. She meets Derek Edwards, the son of a Hollywood celeb and the arrogant boy who basically owns the school. And instead of setting her sights on him, she goes after Webster Grant, a social pariah.

From the description on Goodreads, this looks to be a charming story filled with all the drama, angst and excitement that comes with falling in love in high school.

Next up is Lie by Caroline Bock. I received a printed ARC from the publisher, St. Martin’s Griffin, for review a while back. As it’s coming out this week, I’ve added it to the pile.

When I first heard about this book, I checked out the description and was immediately captivated by this story. While this is not a long book, only 224 pages, it is a heavy story dealing with a serious subject.

The main character, Skylar Thompson, was witness to an assault. Her boyfriend, Jimmy, who she has always seen as her protector, stands accused, and his accomplice, Sean, is given the opportunity to accept a plea and to testify against him.

Both Sean and Skylar must decide whether or not to remain silent or to testify against Jimmy, but they must first discover why they haven’t come forward with what they know.

This story sounds really grabbing. I’m not sure whether or not Jimmy is guilty, but it seems like he must be. I’m curious to see just how much I’ll love or hate the main character for her decision to stand by the boy she loves or to keep quiet and let a crime go unpunished and a criminal go free.

Once again, I decided to add only two books to my pile as I still have a scattered mix of books to be read from the previous few weeks’ reading piles. I’m definitely making progress, but it’s not going as quickly as I’d like. I’m still hopeful for a mid-September catch-up, but by then there will be those October releases to contend with.

Since I haven’t requested any new books from publishers and I have stayed hidden from NetGalley, I really hope to catch up by end of October with all my reading.

I am still devastated that I can’t read Bloodlines this week as it looks absolutely way more gorgeous in person than it looked like online.

    Wishful Thinking reads:

Shatter Me is my only wishful thinking read this week. I still can’t afford to be wishfully thinking about anything right now, but I can’t help it. I’ve managed to get my hands on a few copies of this book, which I’ve passed along to other readers, but now that I have a copy for myself, with its shiny, beautiful cover, I can’t wait to finally find out what the story is about.

All I’ve heard is that it’s amazing. I actually haven’t read the description (that I can remember) or any reviews, but I will allow myself to be swayed to move this up toward the top of the pile based on the high praise it’s received.

    Those left behind:

Just The Power of Six from last week. I was still working on some of the books from my previous piles, one of which I had to set down mid-way through, which I absolutely hate to do. I am also behind on a review, which was due yesterday, but I will have it up on the blog on Sunday.

I’m really liking this committing to two books only each week, though that just means I’m falling behind more and more on my personal reading challenge. Still, it takes the pressure way off. I shouldn’t have set such a lofty goal when adding in the fact that I would be reviewing these books and blogging about them in addition to simply reading them.

There are three books on NetGalley that I’ve been dying to request, and at least two that I’d love to reach out to the publisher for, but I’ve kept firm in my decision to stay away from any new requests for at least a few weeks until I get caught up.

I am still hoping to discover the secret that will allow me to keep ahead of my stack of books. Sadly, I think the only way that will happen is if I were able to do this full-time and that’s not going to happen anytime soon.

If so, what’s in your pile this week?
