    Top 10 of 2017 {Sign-up + Giveaway}

    It’s that time again…

I seriously can’t believe that it’s December 1st and that after a bit of a blogging break I’m back to help celebrate the best books of the year and those I’m most looking forward to in 2018.

As always, I am so thrilled to be joining some amazing bloggers to help co-host this year’s Top 10 of 2017 – a fun-filled week where we look back at some of the best of all things books of 2017 and look ahead to what we can’t wait for in 2018 – with the incredible Jaime of Two Chicks on BooksNancy and Christy of Tales of the Ravenous Reader, Bridget of Dark Faerie Tales, and this year we are joined by Fallon of Seeing Double in Neverland and the lovely ladies at Take Me Away To A Great Read!

For the first time ever we’re stoked to announce that we have an Instagram component for the Top 10 of 2017, headed up by Bridget @DarkFaerieTales_.

And once again I would like to send out a huge thank you to our original co-hosts and creators of this event – Lisa of A Life Bound by Books and Jessica of Confessions of a Bookaholic.

This year’s sign-up giveaway – open to those who sign up for this event and participate – is for either a $25 Amazon Gift Card (US) or $25 in books from The Book Depository (for our International participants)! So be sure to leave your link in the Linky and enter in the Rafflecopter.

    The Details

The event runs for five consecutive days, the last full week of the year – Monday, December 25th to Friday, December 29th. Five days in which we share some of our favorite lists and we invite ALL of YOU to join in on the fun and share your lists with everyone too!

Each day of the event just visit one of the hosting blogs and share your list in the Linky below each day’s post. Just make sure to match up the correct post and Linky list to get credit.

    The Schedule

    Monday, December 25th

    Tuesday, December 26th

    • Best Book Covers of 2017 (MUST be a book released in 2017. Would be best if it’s a book you’ve READ in 2017, but it’s not required)

    Wednesday, December 27th

    • Best ________ of 2017 (Reader’s/Blogger’s choice. Please fill in the blank with ONE of these topics – Villains, Contemporaries, Diverse Books, Dual POV’s, Novellas, Adult titles, New Adult titles, Love Triangles, Couples, Bad Boys or Debuts. REMEMBER: this list MUST be from books you’ve READ in 2017)

    Friday, December 29th

    • Top 10 Books I’m looking forward to in 2018. (This list should be comprised ONLY of books releasing in 2018)

How you do these posts/lists is totally up to you. What books, covers and characters you pick are all your own.

The only rule to follow is posting the topics on the dates we’ve provided.

If you think it will be impossible to keep each list to just 10, there’s always the option of breaking the lists up. For example, creating a list for your Top 10 YA favorites and a list for your Top 10 NA favorites and a list for your Top 10 Adult favorites, etc. This is absolutely fine. You can even feel free to add in a few honorable mentions if you’re having a tough time sticking to just 10.

BUT, please try to keep it to a minimum. It totally defeats the purpose if you have 10 favorites and then 150 honorable mentions.

The goal of this event is for YOU to join in and share your lists with us and for everyone to visit as many of the other participating blogs to check out THEIR lists. It’s also to have fun – so don’t stress it too much!

The event is simple. Make note of the dates and tens list topics as provided and fill out the Linky below. This will give us an idea who will be joining us for the Top 10 week. THEN, be sure to come back to one of our blogs on each of the five days and link up your post for that specific day!

Just remember, each day will have a Linky for that Top 10 topic.

You don’t want to miss a day during the event. There might even be a few giveaways, so joining in the event, keeping up with our and everyone’s lists, just might help win you a bookish prize or two! Additional giveaway details to come, so be sure to check back to find out what we’re giving away and when!

    Grab the Button

Feel free to grab either of our event buttons – THE GRAB CODE IS BELOW EACH BUTTON IN THE SIDEBAR – and help spread the word for the event. We’d love to have anyone and everyone join us this year. The more the merrier!

    The Giveaway

We have once again decided to do a sign-up giveaway for those who sign up early. The giveaway will end at 11:59 p.m. Pacific on December 31st, and we’ll be announcing the winner at the end of the event.

    • ONE (1) winner will receive EITHER a $25 Amazon Gift Card (US) or $25 in books from The Book Depository (US & International)

    Giveaway Deets

    • Giveaway is ONLY open to those who’ve signed up and who participate
    • Must be 13 or older to enter
    • Giveaway is International
    • Giveaway is open until December 31st at 11:59 p.m. Pacific

FIRST THERE WAS FOREVER Blog Tour: ‘Friendship vs. Love’ Guest Post + Giveaway

    First-there-was-forever-BT

I am thrilled to welcome Juliana Romano to the blog today for my stop on the FIRST THERE WAS FOREVER Blog Tour. I absolutely loved this amazing book, which is filled with such wonderful imagery in addition to great characters, a captivating story, and all sorts of feels.

I’ll be sharing my review this weekend on the blog if you’d like to know what else I thought about the book. But for my stop on the tour today I have an awesome guest post by the author on Friendship vs. Love. I’d asked her which she’d choose, and as you’ll see from her post, it’s not an easy choice to make.

And if you’d like to know what choice Lima makes, you’ll have to read FIRST THERE WAS FOREVER. But in the meantime, there’s some information about the book just below. I’m also offering up a copy for giveaway. So if you don’t yet have one and would like the chance to win one, enter in the Rafflecopter a bit further down.

I’ve also included links to some of the other stops on the tour. So if you’d like to check out a few interviews and reviews, scroll down to the bottom of the post.

    Title: FIRST THERE WAS FOREVER
    Author: Juliana Romano
    Release date: April 14, 2015
    Publisher: Dial Books
    Pages: 400
    Formats: Hardcover, eBook

    Description…

Perfect for fans of Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty and Huntley Fitzpatrick’s My Life Next Door, Juliana Romano’s expressive debut is an absorbing and bittersweet story about first love, first loss, and the friends that carry us through it all.

Lima and Hailey have always been best friends: Lima shy and sensitive, Hailey funny and free-spirited. But Hailey abandons Lima to party with the popular kids and pursue Nate, her disinterested crush. As their friendship falters, Lima and Nate begin spending more time together. And before Lima knows what she’s feeling, she and Nate do something irreversible. Something that would hurt Hailey….if she knew it happened.

Lima thinks she’s saving her friendship by lying, but she’s only buying time. As the secrets stack up, Lima is forced to make a choice: between her best friend forever, and the boy who wasn’t meant to be hers.

    The Guest Post

    Friendship vs. Love

    by Juliana Romano

Friendship or love? What an impossible choice! It’s funny, because in some ways, my whole book, First There Was Forever, explores this question and still doesn’t come down clearly on one side or the other, which I guess just shows that I think this is a really interesting, challenging question.

In First There Was Forever, Lima has to make a choice between her best friend from childhood, Hailey, and the boy that they both like, Nate Reed. I think one of the biggest challenges for Lima, and something that leads to her bad behavior, is that she really, really, really doesn’t want to choose. And I really sympathize with her about that! She never stops loving Hailey. If she did, the choice would be simple. Also, Lima and Nate connect on a friendship level as well as a sexual level, and I think that makes the romance between them deeper. I think romantic love is more intense when there is an element of friendship in it!

Looking back at my own high school years, I thought what I wanted was love, but now I can see that my friendships were way more important than my experiences with guys. It was my friendships with other girls that persisted and that shaped me as a person. It was with my friends that I learned my emotional boundaries, how to really love someone, and how to express frustration or hurt! And also, we spent SO MUCH time talking about what sex would be like, that in some ways, I think it was also with my friends that I really learned about sex.

Also, I’m a romantic. I don’t believe we choose who we fall in love with or when. Desire points us towards people and we don’t always know why. If we could choose who to love, we would only choose people who were appropriate matches and really good for us and, and who were guaranteed to love us back the exact amount that we love them. And that’s not at all how it works in reality.

In Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy wrote, “if it is true that there are as many minds as there are heads, then there are as many kinds of love as there are hearts.” I think ultimately, that’s the truest thing I can say on this topic! There are a million kinds of love and a million kinds of friendship, and a million ways in which they overlap. True love is true love – whether it’s platonic or romantic doesn’t have to matter!

ROOK Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway

    rook

I am super excited to be a part of the ROOK Blog Tour and to have been able to read this ahhhh-mazing book just a little bit early. I have not read The Scarlet Pimpernel, which I understand this story is somewhat a retelling of, but having read that book’s description I know I would have loved this story more.

It is epic and awesome and suspenseful – I’m talking of the nail-biting variety – and nerve-wracking and chilling and romantic and heartbreaking and sad and full of all sorts of twists and turns. And if you’d like to know a little bit more about what I thought, my review is below.

The tour includes a few guest posts, interviews and reviews. So if you want to get to know the author and story a bit more, be sure to check out all the stops.

This tour also includes an awesome giveaway for a copy of the book to five winners. So if you’d like a chance to win, scroll down to the Rafflecopter.

And if you want to connect with the author online, links to her website and social media outlets are below.

History has a way of repeating itself. In the Sunken City that was once Paris, all who oppose the new revolution are being put to the blade. Except for those who disappear from their prison cells, a red-tipped rook feather left in their place. Is the mysterious Red Rook a savior of the innocent or a criminal?

Meanwhile, across the sea in the Commonwealth, Sophia Bellamy’s arranged marriage to the wealthy René Hasard is the last chance to save her family from ruin. But when the search for the Red Rook comes straight to her doorstep, Sophia discovers that her fiancé is not all he seems. Which is only fair, because neither is she.

As the Red Rook grows bolder and the stakes grow higher, Sophia and René find themselves locked in a tantalizing game of cat and mouse.

    The Review

ROOK is an epic and thrilling and absolutely riveting, action- and suspense-filled story packed with hidden agendas, twists and turns, chilling punishments, lethal foes, romance, betrayal and heartbreak. It’s a story that takes readers into a future that is reminiscent of the past, with ruthless and bloodthirsty rulers, where madness, slaughter, mobs and treachery abound, and where rebellion is the only way to effect change.

With everything that’s been happening in the Sunken City – the mass executions, the mobs, families and friends turning on one another – Sophia Bellamy can hardly be bothered by the fact that she will have to marry René Hasard, a boy she’s never met, in order to save her family’s land and her father from debtor’s prison. Especially when she’s the one freeing as many of those imprisoned in the Tombs as she can before they have to face the Razor.

But when the boy she’s to become wed to turns out to be more than just the shallow, simplistic socialite she first thought him to be, she’ll have to make sure to cover her tracks, guard her secrets, keep an eye on him, and find out what his motivations are. Because if he were ever to discover what she’s done, what part her family and friends have played, and who she really is, she would be the next one to face the Ministre of Security’s justice. And those who need a savior cannot afford to lose the Red Rook.

Author Sharon Cameron has created a story, that while loosely based on another, feels very much an original. It is interesting, exciting and full of the unexpected. It introduces a wide array of characters to like, despise, mistrust, be charmed by, be fearful of, be heartbroken by. It is set in a distant future where little is known about the past, where many are fearful of technology and the harm it may have caused, where artifacts are revered or destroyed, where fate serves as a guide to some, and where many of history’s mistakes seem to be repeating themselves.

Told from multiple points of view, the author gives peeks at what’s happening with several key characters – sometimes just teasing their thoughts and actions, plans and schemes, building tension and suspense. She gives readers a heroine in Sophia Bellamy who is fierce, loyal, daring, and at times reckless. Sophie is someone who defies convention, who craves excitement, and who has a need to do what’s right, even if it’s dangerous. And she puts her in a number of volatile situations that could either destroy her and everyone she loves or turn her into a leader and savior.

ROOK is a nerve-wracking and nail-biting and gripping read. It pays homage to the past while envisioning a new and fascinating, if somewhat scary, future. It is imaginative and captivating and dramatic and enthralling. It delivers a touch of romance, along with plenty of action and deception and heartache. It is a must for readers who love to be transported into a story that grabs hold and won’t let go until the very last page.
