Gold Blog Tour: Blake Williams Character Interview + Giveaway

    Gold_banner_2

I am so excited that GOLD, the second book in Talia Vance’s Bandia series, has been released and everyone will be able to read it and find out just why I have been dying to talk about it for the many, many months since I first read it.

I am also totally stoked to be a part of the GOLD Blog Tour so that I can help spread the word about this amazing book and series. I absolutely love the mythology in each of these books. I loved the insta-hate and intense reaction Brianna and Blake had when they first met.

And I love how radically things changed in this sequel. Things that I haven’t been able to talk about with very many people. But they are things I’m just dying to talk about.

While Austin plays a bit larger of a role than Blake in this second book in the series I just couldn’t resist the chance to ask Blake a few questions. Which actually proved a bit more difficult since I didn’t want to ask any questions he couldn’t answer for fear of being too revealing about all that went down in this book.

So I tried to keep things just a little bit vague. But for those who have read GOLD I think you’ll be able to figure out just where I was going with my questions.

The interview follows the book’s details, which you’ll definitely want to take a peek at as they shed some light on what’s going on in this sequel. And following the interview is some information about the author and places you can find her online, as well as some information about SILVER, the first book in this series.

And… there is also an amazing giveaway that I desperately want to enter included as part of this tour. The author is giving away to three winners a signed copy of GOLD and there are two signed sets of SILVER and GOLD up for grabs. (US ONLY.) Just scroll on down toward the bottom of the post to enter for a chance to win.

But now, without any further too much more ado aside from some brief details about GOLD, let me share my interview with Blake Williams.

    Blake_Interview

    Q. For those who didn’t get the chance to meet you last year can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

BLAKE: I’m a pre-med student getting ready to start my sophomore year, I play a little poker on the side, and I accidentally bound my soul to the girl I was supposed to kill.  She turned out to be nothing like I expected and I would’ve done anything to keep her alive.  I thought she felt the same way about me, but things got weird after she accidently killed me and then used some ancient magic to bring me back.  Without the soul bond, it was hard to know how she really felt.  I still don’t know…

    elements69

    Q. When you first met Brianna things got just a little bit intense. Just a little…. What were your first impressions of her?

BLAKE: She was the most gorgeous and dangerous thing I’d ever seen.  I was terrified, and maybe even a little in love:

When I feel confident that I can handle it, I let my gaze shift to the dark-haired girl.

It takes all my concentration not to lunge for her.

    Focus.

She’s not going to blow me up in the middle of a party.  That’s not how it works, right?  No.  She’ll lure me in first.  Make it personal.

    I let myself breathe.

    Damn, she’s something.

Our eyes meet and I can’t stop staring.  Even without the claiming. I would know what she is.  Anyone would.  She’s a freaking angel on earth with that hair and that face, and oh my God, those lips.  But that’s not what makes me ache for her.  It’s the power.  It pulses off of her like liquid fire.  I want to wrap myself inside of it.  In her.

    Easy.

The only thing she wants is me dead.  I can’t let myself forget it.

    elements69

    Q. And after getting to know her, how did your feelings about her change?

BLAKE: I was still a little scared, but once I got to know Brianna, there was no question that I was completely in love with her.  She was smart and funny and she had no idea how to use her power, but she fought like hell for the people she cared about, even me.

    elements69

    Q. Can you talk a little bit about the Sons of Killian and what it means – for you, for your relationship with Brianna – to be one of them? And if you could not be one of them, would you choose to give it all up?

BLAKE: As a Seventh Son of Killian, a descendant of the gods who can manifest their power, I have a lot of responsibility.  We’re the last line of defense between humanity and the gods who want to return to earth to rule it.  Brianna is a bandia, one of Danu’s descendants, the last of the gods’ warriors.  We’re soldiers in a centuries’ old war we didn’t start in the first place.  I would give it all up if I could, but the fact is I never can.  The best I can hope for is to help keep her alive.

    elements69

    Q. What has been your favorite moment with Brianna?

BLAKE: There was this moment on the beach, before we were bound.  She had no reason to be with me, every reason not to, really, but she was there, not as a bandia, but as a girl who joked about electricity and looked at me like I was someone who mattered.  But I think my favorite moment was when she doused Jeremy with a wall of water and messed up his hair.  I haven’t laughed so hard since.

    elements69

    Q. Things between you and Brianna got complicated. What would you say is your biggest regret?

BLAKE: That I let myself doubt her, even for a second.

    elements69

    Q. When Brianna left for Ireland what was your plan? To bring her back? To let her go?

BLAKE: When she first left, I was just going to let her go, but within a day I knew it was hopeless to think that I ever could.  Everyone was convinced that she burned down my house, and the only way to protect her was to find the bandia who did it.  Beyond that I didn’t really have a plan.  In retrospect, maybe I should have…

    elements69

    Q. What do you really think of Austin? And would you feel the same way if he didn’t seem interested in Brianna?

BLAKE: Austin and I were friends once, but the dude did try to get me killed.  There’s no going back from that as far as I’m concerned.

WatchBOOK-2GOLD by Talia Vance will be released in the U.S. on September 8, 2013 in paperback and eBook formats.

It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and in paperback format at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Flux, the print edition is 408 pages.

GOLD is the second book in author Talia Vance’s Bandia series.

    div1

There are so many books releasing the week of September 3rd that I’m incredibly excited about. One I’m currently reading, one I am dying to read and several I have pre-ordered. But of all the books releasing that week, GOLD by Talia Vance is the book I am most anxiously awaiting, so I just had to put it in the spotlight this week.

I did get the chance to read it quite a bit early, but that just makes me even more eager to get my hands on a finished copy of this book. I want to know if any major changes were made to the story from the version I’d read. I want to see if the ending remained the same. I want to re-read this book in its finished form and fall in love all over again.

I was so surprised by SILVER when I first read it. I fell madly in love with it from the very first pages. And the same was true of GOLD. It was insta-love for me. Which was also a surprise given how much things had changed between book one and book two. Changes I might normally have been devastated by.

But they were changes that just felt right for the story. And they were changes that I absolutely love, love, loved.

Of course there were other things I absolutely adored. I loved the new setting in this sequel. I loved the look back in time to what happened in the past. I loved what was happening with Brianna in the present. And I loved that Austin played a bigger role in this story.

Though I probably shouldn’t say any more. Or I might reveal just why I thought I’d be devastated. Or why Blake… no, I probably shouldn’t talk about him. At all.

As I have already read GOLD there is no guesswork as to whether I think this book will be amazing based upon its description. I know it is. It’s exciting, it’s suspense-filled, it’s heartbreaking, it’s heartwarming. It’s a story I’m just dying to re-read.

So it doesn’t matter that I already know what happened in the past before the feud began. Because I want to discover it all over again. And it doesn’t matter that I know exactly what happens, or doesn’t happen, between Brianna and Austin. Because reading about it a second time will be just as awesome as the first.

And while there are so very many books releasing the week of September 3rd, books I’ve been pining over for a long while, they don’t come with a one hundred percent guarantee that I will fall in love with them, be transported by them or make a connection to the characters. Whereas all of those things happened during the course of reading GOLD.

Which is why I had no choice but to select GOLD as the book to watch this week.

    Goodreads description:

An Irish heritage, Celtic myth, and deadly beauty

In eighth grade, Brianna did something so dreadful she was suspended and homeschooled. No one could explain what happened that night . . . except Brianna’s Irish grandmother, who gave her a silver charm bracelet and told her to wear it until she turned seventeen. Ever since she slipped it on, Brianna has felt like she’s invisible. People stare right past her as if she doesn’t exist. And that includes Blake Williams, the one boy she can’t resist.

But everything changes in one frozen, silver moment when Blake sees her–and recognizes what she’s been hiding. Brianna is descended from Danu, the legendary Bandia of Celtic myth. Yet before she can fully understand who or what she is, Brianna accidentally binds her soul to Blake–whose tribe has spent the last thousand years hunting Danu’s descendants to protect humanity.

    ***

Brianna Paxton was invisible. No matter what she did, she always remained in the shadow of her best friend Haley. Not that she minded most of the time. Because there was something from her past that she didn’t want anyone to know. Something she’d done. Something so bad even her mother seemed afraid of her.

But when it came to Blake Williams she wished he could see her. She kept count of the times that she saw him and that he acted as if she wasn’t even there. She wished that he would flirt with her like he did with Haley. She hoped he would notice her. Even if it was just once.

Then one night her wish came true. He did see her. For the very first time he saw her clearly. And in that moment everything changed.

Because he knew her. He knew things about her that she didn’t know. Things she didn’t want to believe were true. Dark things. Dangerous things. Things that if they were true meant that her life would never be the same again. That she would never be safe again. Not even from him.

And he wasn’t the only one who could see her now.

    ***

Utterly captivating, deliciously dark and sexy, exciting and original, Talia Vance’s Silver is a fast-paced and immensely entertaining read that will keep those pages turning.

From a plot that is full of secrets, betrayal, danger, mystery, suspense, heartbreak and chemistry that scorches to characters that readers will love to love and love to hate, this first book in the Bandia series is the perfect escape into a world that brings Celtic myth into a modern day setting.

The writing flows beautifully and transports readers into this story of ancient powers and beliefs, age-old rivalries and long-standing enemies. A story with a likable and relatable heroine who has been kept in the dark about who she is, what she’s capable of and the dangers that await her. And a story that pits loyalty and responsibility against love and trust.

Author Talia Vance grabs readers’ attention with the intensity of the connection between Brianna and Blake. She keeps them on edge by revealing fragments of the mythology only as her main character learns about it. And she keeps them riveted by the constant threat of danger, the fear of not knowing what will happen next, the two boys that capture her heroine’s interest, and the enemies that seek to destroy her.

With a market saturated with paranormal stories for young adults, Silver explores a mythology that is different and incredibly intriguing. The author’s ability to enchant, tease and torment with her words, to tie readers in knots and to create not only interesting but very memorable characters, makes Silver an absolute must read first book in this new series.

    Reviewer gives this book…

    On a personal note:

From the moment I started reading Silver I fell in love. Yes, it was total insta-love. There was just something about the writing that I connected with immediately. Just a few sentences in and I knew that it would be a “me” book. And I was not wrong.

It was totally a “me” book. From the writing, to the characters, to the story, to the mythology, to the darkness, to the heartbreak, to the nail-biting suspense, to the chemistry.

Ahhh the chemistry. There was plenty of that. It was intense. It was electric. It held an element of danger. It sparked. It sizzled. It blazed.

But what I loved most was the writing. It was gorgeous. It gave me that twisty-turny feeling inside that I absolutely love. It kept me riveted to the story. It broke my heart. It made me nervous. It took me on a ride that I never wanted to get off of.

And then there was the mythology. I was fascinated. I wanted to know more. I still want to know more. I loved how the mythology was revealed teasingly, piece by piece. I loved how different it was. And I love that I don’t know the whole of it just yet.

This story utterly bewitched me. I had not anticipated being so enamored with it when I picked it up. But within moments I just knew it would tear me apart. And it did.

I loved getting to know Brianna. I loved trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. I loved every single moment that involved Blake Williams. And I loved trying to figure out Austin Montgomery.

The story was just so easy to read, so easy to get lost in. I don’t think I’ve devoured a story as quickly as I had this book in quite awhile. But I couldn’t slow down my pace because I wanted answers. I wanted to get to that next scene with Brianna and Blake. I wanted to learn more about the characters’ history. And I wanted to find out just how things would end.

Though when I reached the end I was devastated that I had finished. That there was no more story left to read. That I’d have to say goodbye to the characters. Especially since I wasn’t sure if there would be another book, as Silver did not end in a cliffhanger. But there was this one moment that would have been the perfect cliffhanger…a perfectly cruel cliffhanger.

Instead, the book tied up many loose ends and so I was terrified there was no more story for the characters and that this was a standalone and not a series. But thankfully there is more story and there is a sequel. Now I just have to suffer the wait.

Because not every question was answered. Not every thread tied up neatly. Not every threat removed. And not every aspect of the mythology revealed.

I love being surprised by a book. I love unexpectedly falling in love with a story. And I love finding new characters that I can so easily connect with.

Silver made all that happen. Now I just can’t wait for Gold.

    ***

I had several favorite passages and quotes. But I was able to narrow it down to two that made sense out of context and showed just how amazing this author is at painting a picture with her words.

The sounds of the party disappear, cloaking me in a shadow of absolute silence. The quiet has a distinct sound of its own, as if the sudden absence of sensation creates a void that echoes in deep, passing waves.

    And…

When he finally lets his eyes slide to mine, there is anger, yes, but something else too. A fear that claws at my neck. A sadness that floats up from nowhere and pulls me along. Desire, so strong that I want to fall into him.
