Top 10 of 2016: Books I’m Looking Forward to in 2017

Welcome to Day Five of the Top 10 of 2016

    A WEEK OF LOOKING BACK…

    …AND LOOKING FORWARD

    As mentioned previously…

I can’t believe that I’ve been co-hosting this event for six years with Jaime of Two Chicks on Books and three years with Nancy of Tales of the Ravenous Reader! And while I’m so sad that Mindy won’t be joining us this year, I’m thrilled that Bridget of Dark Faerie Tales has joined the team, as has Nancy’s blog partner, Christy.

I haven’t read a ton of books this year, or blogged very much, so I almost decided not to participate. But this event is so much fun that I just couldn’t miss out.

If you haven’t yet heard of the Top 10 of 2016 week-long event, in a nutshell it’s where we share our favorite bookish lists and invite you to share yours over the next five days by leaving your post links in the daily Linky Lists.

Yet again, we’re each hosting our own giveaways on four of the five days of this challenge – We’re taking Day One off, Dark Faerie Tales is hosting Day Two’s giveaway, I am hosting Day Three’s giveaway, Two Chicks on Books is hosting Day Four’s giveaway, and Tales of the Ravenous Reader is hosting Day Five’s giveaway. So be sure to visit each of our blogs this week to share your post links and enter the giveaways!

The Book I’m Looking Forward to in 2017

There are SO many books I can’t wait to meet in 2017 – some I don’t even yet know I want to meet – and even more books in series that I want to continue reading. But I had to choose just ten.

However, for this post it doesn’t matter how few books I read this year, so I am totally listing a few honorable mentions.

I just wish I knew whether certain series were continuing in 2017 or at all…. like Leah Clifford’s Resurrectionist seriesJenna Black’s Gifted series or Sara Shepard’s The Amateurs.

And I WISH I hadn’t read a few books in 2016 that I totally would have listed as books I’m looking forward to in 2017 – 100 HOURS by Rachel Vincent, ROSEBLOOD by A.G. Howard, FLICKER AND MIST by Mary G. Thompson, and WAYFARER by Alexandra Bracken.

    Author: Amber Smith
    Release date: March 22, 2016
    Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books
    Pages: 384
    Formats: Hardcover, audio, eBook

    Description…

Eden was always good at being good. Starting high school didn’t change who she was. But the night her brother’s best friend rapes her, Eden’s world capsizes.

What was once simple, is now complex. What Eden once loved—who she once loved—she now hates. What she thought she knew to be true, is now lies. Nothing makes sense anymore, and she knows she’s supposed to tell someone what happened but she can’t. So she buries it instead. And she buries the way she used to be.

Told in four parts—freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year—this provocative debut reveals the deep cuts of trauma. But it also demonstrates one young woman’s strength as she navigates the disappointment and unbearable pains of adolescence, of first love and first heartbreak, of friendships broken and rebuilt, and while learning to embrace a power of survival she never knew she had hidden within her heart.

Harper Anderson has always thought she should have been born somewhere more glamorous than her sleepy Northern California suburb. After all, how many water polo matches and lame parties in Bobby McKittrick’s backyard can one girl take?

Already resigned to working at a Skinny B’s Juice Press for the summer, Harper is shocked when the ultra-prestigious teen magazine, Shift, calls to say they want her to be their teen dating blogger for the summer. All she needs to do is get her butt to New York in two days.

There’s just one teeny, tiny problem: Apart from some dance floor make-outs, Harper doesn’t have a whole lot of dating experience. So when Shift’s application asked for an “edgy” personal essay, Harper might have misappropriated her best friend’s experiences for her own. But she can just learn on the job…right? Will the house of lies Harper has built around her dream job collapse all around her, or will she be able to fake it until she makes it in the big city?

    The Honorable Mention

I haven’t been doing honorable mentions this year because I read so few books in 2016. But I just couldn’t leave THE HATERS out. It was so freaking hilarious…

    Acr297196509774415983

    Add to Goodreads

    Title: THE HATERS
    Author: Jesse Andrews
    Release date: April 5, 2016
    Publisher: Amulet Books
    Pages: 336
    Formats: Hardcover, paperback, audio, eBook

    Description…

From Jesse Andrews, author of the New York Times bestselling Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and screenwriter of the Sundance award–winning motion picture of the same name, comes a groundbreaking young adult novel about music, love, friendship, and freedom as three young musicians follow a quest to escape the law long enough to play the amazing show they hope (but also doubt) they have in them.

Inspired by the years he spent playing bass in a band himself, The Haters is Jesse Andrews’s road trip adventure about a trio of jazz-camp escapees who, against every realistic expectation, become a band.

For Wes and his best friend, Corey, jazz camp turns out to be lame. It’s pretty much all dudes talking in Jazz Voice. But then they jam with Ash, a charismatic girl with an unusual sound, and the three just click. It’s three and a half hours of pure musical magic, and Ash makes a decision: They need to hit the road. Because the road, not summer camp, is where bands get good. Before Wes and Corey know it, they’re in Ash’s SUV heading south, and The Haters Summer of Hate Tour has begun.

In his second novel, Andrews again brings his brilliant and distinctive voice to YA, in the perfect book for music lovers, fans of The Commitments and High Fidelity, or anyone who has ever loved—and hated—a song or a band. This witty, funny coming-of-age novel is contemporary fiction at its best.

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #151

    BW-RTW

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of November 19th-November 25th that I have pre-ordered.

    line2

    Horizon
    addtogoodreads

HORIZON by Alyson Noel releases in the U.S. today, November 19, 2013, in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 336 pages.

HORIZON is the fourth and final full-length book in author Alyson Noel’s Soul Seekers series.

    Dots_Divider

I can’t believe that HORIZON is the final book in this series and that it’s releasing today. I own all three previous books in this series and as soon as this final installment downloads I’ll have the complete collection on my Kindle, though I haven’t yet had the chance to start it.

I haven’t met Daire Santos and found out why she’s the last of the Soul Seekers. I don’t know how Dace became bound to the Richters. I do know that I desperately want to meet them both, to see what happens to them over the course of this series and to find out whether the question posed in the description can be answered with a “yes.”

I love Alyson Noel’s writing and her characters, and I’m hopeful I’ll be able to read all four books in this series back-to-back in the next couple of months. I think it’s awesome that this series was optioned for film and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will make it to the big screen. Of course I definitely plan on reading it long before then.

This final book promises an epic battle and hints that there may be sacrifice. But even if the story doesn’t end with a happily ever after, I can’t wait to get started and to find out more about Daire’s destiny and about the Soul Seekers.

    Description…

Fate has bound them together—and torn them apart. Now Daire and Dace face one final fight that will seal their destiny forever.

Daire Santos is the last of the Soul Seekers, and the only thing standing between the Richters and the destruction of everyone she loves. With her grandmother gone and Cade back in Enchantment, Daire must finally step into her destiny and lead the fight against the Richters. But what if that means sacrificing the person she loves most?

Bound to the Richters by blood, Dace struggles against the darkness growing inside him that threatens to claim Daire too. Though Daire refuses to give up on him, the choice may not be hers. An epic battle is on the horizon and the end of the world looms near. With such insurmountable odds stacked against them, is their love really enough to conquer all?

    The Fiery Heart
    addtogoodreads

THE FIERY HEART by Richelle Mead releases in the U.S. today, November 19, 2013, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Razorbill, the print edition is 438 pages.

THE FIERY HEART is the fourth book in Author Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines series. The fifth book in the series, SILVER SHADOWS, is slated for release in 2014 and the sixth book in the series, currently untitled, will be released in 2015.

    Dots_Divider

I am so excited that THE FIERY HEART is releasing today and that my copy will have already (hopefully) downloaded to my Kindle. I have heard some of the buzz about this fourth book in the series and it sounds totally epic. Which makes me desperate to catch up on this series.

I am such a huge fan of author Richelle Mead. And I love the characters in this spinoff series. I just hate waiting for each installment’s release. Whenever I pick up a book by this author I want the next one right away. So I’m glad that I have a few books to read, but I just know that I’ll catch up in a matter of days and will have a long, long wait for SILVER SHADOWS.

Still, I plan on getting all caught up this December and pining for the next book along with everyone else. And while I did end up reading the book’s description when creating my Book Watch post spotlighting THE FIERY HEART, I am not going to take a peek now.

So I’m not sure what’s going to happen with Sydney and Adrian Ivashkov in this book. I just hope the ending won’t be too killer a cliffhanger and that Sydney won’t break Adrian’s heart… that is, if she hasn’t already.

    Description…

In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .

But the struggle isn’t over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there’s still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure—and re-education—looms larger than ever.

Pulses will race throughout this thrilling fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where no secret is safe.

    World After
    addtogoodreads

WORLD AFTER by Susan Ee releases in the U.S. today, November 19, 2013, in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at AMAZON and in paperback and audio formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Skyscape, the print edition is 320 pages.

WORLD AFTER is the second book in author Susan Ee’s Penryn & the End of Days series. The third book in the series, currently untitled, is expected in May 2014.

    Dots_Divider

I pre-ordered WORLD AFTER awhile back when I heard that the first book in this series was amazing. And while I haven’t yet read that first book, I’m super excited to have this sequel in hand when I do.

I know that people have been dying for this book’s release, so I feel just a little bit guilty that when I finally do read ANGELFALL I won’t have to suffer the wait like they did. But since a third book in this series is planned, I might be in the same exact situation they are. Hopefully the waiting will not suck, as I plan on reading ANGELFALL and WORLD AFTER in January.

As I really don’t want to risk spoiling such an amazing-sounding series I will not be reading the description for WORLD AFTER. Therefore I have not the first clue about whether the sequel includes any of the characters from the first book or whether things ended well for Penryn and Raffe at the end of that book.

Hopefully all will be answered when I turn the final page on WORLD AFTER in January… if, that is, I can wait that long.

    Description…

In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what’s left of the modern world.

When a group of people capture Penryn’s sister Paige, thinking she’s a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels’ secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can’t rejoin the angels, can’t take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

    Dots_Divider

I’m not sure how I missed THE F-IT LIST last week. I only discovered this fact after it downloaded to my Kindle as I had it pre-ordered for quite awhile. This book sounds amazing and heartbreaking and I desperately want to find some time to read it this winter. I just know the subject matter is going to make me bawl.

In terms of new releases, this week is even quieter than last. Which is a really good thing as I haven’t had much time to read lately and all of my Kindles are yelling at me for neglecting them. I may have let the battery run out on a couple of them. Bad, bad me.

All three new books getting added to my collection are ones in a series in which I am not caught up. So it’s almost like having an additional six books added to the pile because if I want to read them I’ll have to read those other books first.

While I haven’t listed it above, the final part to Jessa Holbrook’s WHILE YOU’RE AWAY is releasing this week, which I’m so excited about. If you love YA contemporary romance that is both hot and sexy and nerve-wracking and heartbreaking, then this is the perfect book to read. It will eventually be releasing as a complete novel, but for those that don’t want to wait, all six parts are available in eBook format as of today. I know I couldn’t wait – and I didn’t – but it is totally a book worth waiting for.

    Anyway…

Given the fact that I seem to be missing at least one book each week, I’m curious to see what other books that I have pre-ordered will be downloading today. I think I’ll be shocked if there aren’t any additional titles… or at least any YA titles. But maybe it is possible that this week is just super quiet for releases.

Whatever the case, I hope that at least one of the above listed titles is on your list of books you are dying to read. And I hope that you are able to get a copy to read so that you don’t have to wait any longer than you already have.

    As ever, happy bookish acquiring!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #132

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of July 9th-July 15th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    Life's a Witch

    addtogoodreads

LIFE’S A WITCH by Brittany Geragotelis will be released in the U.S. on July 9, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 320 pages.

LIFE’S A WITCH is the second book in author Brittany Geragotelis’ series of the same name. The third book in the series, THE WITCH IS BACK, is slated for release on January 21, 2014.

    Line_001

I am so excited that LIFE IS A WITCH is releasing this week. I thought the first book in the series, WHAT THE SPELL?, was absolutely adorable and I can’t wait to check out Hadley’s story when it downloads to my Kindle this week.

If I’m not mistaken, this story was actually the first one written in the series and was released on Wattpad. I did not read that version, though. So this updated version will be a brand new story to me.

With rival covens, missing witches and a “fight to avenge their elders,” this installment in the series sounds like so much fun. And I can’t wait to see what Hadley thinks of Asher Astley in this book. I loved him in that first book in the series and I’ve been anxious to learn more about him and his family.

While I won’t be able to sneak it on the pile this week, I’m hopeful of getting it on the pile in the next couple of week so that all (hopefully) my questions will be answered.

    div1

    Shadow of the Mark

    addtogoodreads

SHADOW OF THE MARK by Leigh Fallon will be released in the U.S. on July 9, 2013 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in paperback and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 320 pages.

SHADOW OF THE MARK is the second book in author Leigh Fallon’s Carrier series. The third book in the series, AGE OF THE FIFTH, does not currently have a release date listed.

    Line_001

I have no idea how the release date for SHADOW OF THE MARK snuck up on me. I had every intention of finishing CARRIER OF THE MARK so that I could read this book immediately upon its release. However, as its release date is just about here, I don’t think I’ll make it in time.

But I am excited that it will be added to my collection on Monday Midnight.

While I was forced to set aside this book due to review deadlines, I had a lot of fun meeting Megan and Adam in that first book. I was intrigued by the setting and their immediate connection and I can’t wait to find out more. I’m just so glad that I didn’t read that first book early or I would have had a super long wait for this sequel.

As I already have a few books on the pile this week, I won’t be reading both CARRIER OF THE MARK and SHADOW OF THE MARK this week, but I’m hopeful of reading them both next week.

    div1

    Right of Way

    addtogoodreads

RIGHT OF WAY by Lauren Barnholdt will be released in the U.S. on July 9, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Simon Pulse, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Line_001

I am so glad that RIGHT OF WAY‘s release date is almost here. Finally! I’ve been just dying to read this companion novel ever since I learned of its existence and I will definitely be squeezing this onto my reading pile when it downloads to my Kindle on Tuesday.

I want to see what happens with Peyton and Jace on their road trip. I want to find out whether the trip will repair their romance or whether it will make things worse. I loved Two-way Street when I read it a few years ago and I am so excited the author has written another road trip story with two new characters.

As I already spotlighted RIGHT OF WAY for my Book Watch post a few weeks ago I won’t go on and on as to why I want to read this. But there is no doubt in my mind that I will be reading it this week just as soon as I finish my current read.

Once again I only have three books pre-ordered this week. Which makes me so very, very happy. Because I’m just inundated with books I want to read – books I have early copies of, books I’ve owned for ages and books that will be releasing later this month and next month. So having another quiet-ish week is a really good thing.

Though, technically I had four books pre-ordered last week. I totally missed AWAKEN by Meg Cabot in last week’s post, which a lovely commentator pointed out. Fortunately Amazon didn’t forget my pre-order and it downloaded to my Kindle on Monday night.

Hopefully I didn’t miss any releases this week, but I’m not exactly in the most trusting of places with Amazon’s list of upcoming books and its list of my pre-orders, so it’s very possible there is a book or a few missing. But I suppose I’ll find out on Tuesday.

While I don’t have any of the Books of Note pre-ordered, I am really interested in the Sara Grant book, HALF LIVES, and I really want to check out the ZOM-B series by Darren Shan one of these days. But I think I’ll start with book one.

I did not make it to Barnes & Noble over the holiday week, which means I’m going through major book shopping spree withdrawal. I must have my bookish fix. And as BN.com is open 24×7 I may just have to take a stroll over there this week.

But what about you? Were there any interesting books added to your collection last week? Any new books you can’t wait for that are releasing this week? Or do you know of a book or two that I missed in this post that are absolutely a must for my collection? If so, I’d love to know!

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #123

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of May 7th-May 13th that I have pre-ordered.

    05

    Reboot

    addtogoodreads

REBOOT by Amy Tintera will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 384 pages.

REBOOT is the first book in a new series of the same name by author Amy Tintera. The second book in the series, currently untitled, is slated for release in 2014.

    Line_001

I am so unbelievably excited that REBOOT is releasing this week. I fell instantly in love with it the second I read the description. And I have major cover love for it, too. So, waiting for its release has been torturous.

I cannot wait to meet Wren Connolly and Callum Reyes. I can’t wait to see just how his humanity turns the “perfect soldier” into someone willing to disobey her orders. And I cannot wait to visit this intriguing world that author Amy Tintera has created.

I have avoided all reviews, but I couldn’t help but hear the tiniest bits of chatter mentioning that this book rocked. So I’m hoping that I’ll be finished with this week’s reads early enough so that I can sneak REBOOT onto the pile this week.

    div1

    Invisibility

    addtogoodreads

INVISIBILITY by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Philomel, the print edition is 320 pages.

    Line_001

I love Andrea Cremer’s writing and I am so very curious about this joint endeavor with author David Levithan. I’ve had INVISIBILITY pre-ordered since the moment I first learned of its existence and I can’t wait to check it out.

I love books that involve curses. Of course I love stories that include romance. And I can’t wait to find out if Elizabeth and Stephen discover a way to break the curse and just what sacrifice they’ll have to make in order for Stephen to “become visible.”

While I won’t get the chance to take a peek at it this month, I am hopeful of reading INVISIBILITY early next month. Because it’s been awhile since I read anything by author Andrea Cremer and I am definitely going through withdrawal.

    div1

    The 5th Wave

    addtogoodreads

THE 5th WAVE by Rick Yancey will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 480 pages.

THE 5th WAVE is the first book in a new series of the same name by author Rick Yancey. The second and third books in the series are currently untitled and slated for release in August 2014 and August 2015, respectively.

    Line_001

There has been a ton of buzz about Rick Yancey’s THE 5th WAVE, all of it positive, so I just had to pre-order it for my Kindle. Even though I haven’t read either THE PASSAGE or ENDER’S GAME, which the description compares this book to.

But any book that is billed as “epic” is one I have to check out. And when its description mentions that “only darkness remains” and “only the unlucky survive,” how could I not want to read it?

I more than want to read it. I desperately want to do so. And I’m so very hopeful of being able to meet Cassie and the “[b]eguiling and mysterious” Evan Walker in the next week or two.

    The 1st Wave…

    The 2nd Wave…

    The 3rd Wave…

    The 4th Wave…

    The End Games

    addtogoodreads

THE END GAMES by T. Michael will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Balzer + Bray, the print edition is 384 pages.

    Line_001

I cannot believe THE END GAMES is releasing this week. I had so hoped to read it early, but that didn’t happen. This book is yet another one of those books I consider must reads. It sounds so chilling and awesome.

As I’ve spotlighted it for my Book Watch post, I won’t ramble on endlessly, especially as this post is long, but I will just say that this book is one I’m so eager to dive into. I want to find out how The Game changes, how The Bellows, evolve and just what The Game Master is up to.

While I won’t get the chance to read THE END GAMES this week, there’s no way I’m going to let the month end without having read it.

    div1

    If I Should Die

    addtogoodreads

IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 416 pages.

IF I SHOULD DIE is the third, and final, book in the Revenants series by author Amy Plum.

    Line_001

After having just recently read UNTIL I DIE, I don’t think I’m more anxious for any book’s release than IF I SHOULD DIE by Amy Plum. I absolutely love the author’s stories about the Revenants and I cannot wait to find out what happened after that killer ending.

And from reading those excerpts on the IF I SHOULD DIE Blog Tour, I am even more desperate to continue the story. Which I hope to do when my eBook downloads on Monday Midnight.

Because I want to know why Jules and Kate are in New York. I want to know what happens with the traitor. And I want to know how this series ends.

ICONS by Margaret Stohl will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, large print paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE. It will be available in audiobook format on July 16, 2013.

Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 448 pages.

ICONS is the first book in author Margaret Stohl’s new series of the same name. The second book in the series, currently untitled, is expected in 2014.

ICONS is another book I wanted to read before its release, but due to the umpteen books I needed to read first, it just didn’t happen. But I have ICONS pre-ordered and I will be reading it just as soon as my schedule frees up a bit.

I am so very fascinated by the first line of the description which mentions that “[y]our heart beats only with their permission.” I’m curious to find out why Dol is so different. And I’m excited to discover this world in which Earth is at the mercy of the Icons.

The description promises a story that is “heart-pounding” in a world that is “haunting” and I cannot wait to finally get the chance to discover it for myself. Something I plan to do a bit later this month.

    Fall of Night

    addtogoodreads

FALL OF NIGHT by Rachel Caine will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE. It will be available in audiobook format on May 27, 2013 at Barnes & Noble.

Published by NAL Hardcover, the print edition is 352 pages.

FALL OF NIGHT is the fourteenth book in the Morganville Vampires series. The fifteenth book, DAYLIGHTERS, is slated for release on November 5, 2013.

    Line_001

I am seriously behind on this series. But I own every single book and I do plan on catching up on it this year. Hopefully by the time the fifteenth book is released. But I have FALL OF NIGHT pre-ordered and I’m super excited to add it to my collection when it releases this week.

Although I shouldn’t have, I couldn’t help but take a peek at the description. And now I’m even more excited to get caught up. Because in this installment it seems that Claire leaves Morganville and has an entire adventure far away from this Texas town and its resident vamps.

I’m very curious about her experiments and just what happens with her human test subjects to make her question whether leaving Morganville was such a good thing.

While I won’t be reading FALL OF NIGHT in the next few months, I am so very hopeful that I’ll have gotten caught up on this series by the end of October so that when DAYLIGHTERS releases in early November I’ll be ready to dive in.

    Dead Ever After

    addtogoodreads

DEAD EVER AFTER by Charlaine Harris will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and in hardcover, audio and eBook formats at BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Ace Hardcover, the print edition is 352 pages.

DEAD EVER AFTER is the thirteenth and final full-length book in the author’s Sookie Stackhouse series. AFTER DEAD: What Came Next in the Word of Sookie Stackhouse, is due out on October 29, 2013.

    Line_001

I’m a mix of relieved and sad to see this series end. I loved the first nine books but have fallen a bit out of love with the story for the past few installments. Though I do have DEAD EVER AFTER pre-ordered in both eBook format and a special signed edition from Barnes & Noble.

But after having the ending spoiled for me by a commentator on my other blog, I’m not sure when I will be reading this last installment. I may just pretend that this series ended with book nine.

Eric the Northman is one of my favorite vampire characters and I’ve adored Sookie for many of the books she’s been in. Even with the head-shaking decisions she’s made. And while I am a fan of the True Blood series on HBO, that series has not in any way changed my feelings about Mr. Bill Compton, [insert derogatory term here], vampire extraordinaire.

So learning, just yesterday, that the author originally planned for a different fate for him and altered that due to pressures because of that show, it has made me a little less enthusiastic toward the series. Because I would have loved for the author’s original idea to have been a part of her story.

My feelings are definitely conflicted, so I don’t plan on reading DEAD EVER AFTER until the chatter dies down. But I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to read it and find out just how the story ends for these characters I’ve known and loved for years, eventually. Even if the ending isn’t one I’d wished for Sookie.

    Mystic

MYSTIC by Alyson Noel will be released in the U.S. on May 7, 2013 in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 320 pages.

MYSTIC is the third book in Alyson Noel’s Soul Seekers series. The fourth book in the series, HORIZON, is slated for release on November 19, 2013

    Line_001

I have yet to get started on Alyson Noel’s Soul Seekers series but I’ve purchased each of the books so that I eventually can read them all at once. As I’m not sure how many books are planned in the series, it might be awhile before MYSTIC ends up on my reading pile. But it will definitely be part of my collection when it downloads on Tuesday.

I very much enjoyed the author’s The Immortals series. And I thought her middle grade spin-off series was absolutely delightful. So I’m very excited about reading her latest endeavor and meeting Daire Santos.

I did take a peek at the description since I figure that by the time I do read it, I’ll have forgotten what I’ve read. And it sounds incredibly exciting. With someone’s fate hanging in the balance and someone else who plans on destroying the world and everyone Daire loves, this third book in the series sounds so very suspenseful.

Which makes me glad that I will be waiting until each of the books has released before reading them so that I won’t have to wait to continue the story.

This week is absolutely INSANE! There are just way too many amazing books releasing this week, that I have no idea how I’m going to clear them all off the pile without a reading marathon of some kind.

I am so excited for THE 5th WAVE, REBOOT, THE END GAMES, ICONS and IF I SHOULD DIE. And there are a few books that are on my radar that I haven’t yet purchased, like TREMBLE, THE S-WORD, THE ORIGINALS, CHANTRESS and THE LUCY VARIATIONS. All of which I am so very tempted by.

As this post is excessively long I just have to keep this sign-off brief. Because with nine books downloading on Monday Midnight, none of which I’ve yet read, I need to get to the books currently on pile so that I can make some room.

Besides, with all the bookish information above, I doubt you’re interested in hearing me ramble.

    So….

I hope you have some amazing titles to add to your collection this week. And I hope that if you’ve missed a few, this post has put them back on your radar.

If any of the books are ones you’ve been anxiously awaiting, I’d love to hear which ones they are! And if, for some reason, there is another book releasing this week that I’ve missed, please let me know. Because I hate missing out on awesome new releases, even if there are a ton of books already being added to my collection.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!

Book Watch: Releasing This Week #98

Below are the YA books releasing this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of November 13th-November 19th that I have pre-ordered.

SOUL SCREAMERS VOLUME TWO by Rachel Vincent was released in the U.S. today, November 13, 2012, in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Harlequin Teen, the print edition is 704 pages.

SOUL SCREAMERS VOLUME TWO includes the full-length novels MY SOUL TO KEEP and MY SOUL TO STEAL along with the novella REAPER.

    ***

Okay, so I’ve read all the stories that are contained in SOUL SCREAMERS VOLUME TWO. More than once. But it’s so gorgeous I just had to pre-order a copy… or two. I have all the other books in print and I just know it will look amazing tucked between SSV1 and IF I DIE.

This is one of my favorite series of all time and my heart is already breaking that I will have to say goodbye to it next year. But I hope that there will be a third and fourth volume with perhaps a new novella added to that final volume. My fingers are already crossed.

As I know just how both books and the novella end in this volume I can’t possibly pretend to guess. But between Avari’s wicked ways and Sabine’s evil scheming, both full-length novels are the stuff of awesome.

And finally getting the chance to see REAPER in print is something I’ve been waiting, wishing and hoping for, for a long, long time. Now if that delivery man would only get here soon….

RENEGADE by J.A. Souders was released in the U.S. today, November 13, 2012, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Tor Teen, the print edition is 368 pages.

RENEGADE is the first book in the author’s The Elysium Chronicles.

    ***

I hadn’t heard much about RENEGADE until Jaime of Two Chicks on Books insisted this was amazing and that I had to read it asap. While it was available on NetGalley, as I knew I wouldn’t be able to read it early I immediately headed to Amazon to pre-order it for my Kindle.

I’m now so very curious to meet Evelyn Winters and see what life is like in Elysium, an “underwater utopia.” Especially as this may not be a utopian society at all, since the description mentions “everything she knows is a lie.”

I’m dying to find out why her memories have been altered and just who she’s under the control of. And I want to find out just what secret her mother has that “will destroy them all.”

This book was moved to the top of my reading pile and I hope to be able to dive into it tonight.

EXECUTION by Alexander Gordon Smith was released in the U.S. today, November 13, 2012, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR), the print edition is 320 pages.

EXECUTION is the fifth and final book in the author’s Escape from Furnace series.

    ***

I have been waiting for what seems like forever for EXECUTION to be released. It finally downloaded to my Kindle some time after midnight but I didn’t get the chance to read it yet. And I’m a little terrified of starting it.

I am almost positive I’m going to be heartbroken when this series ends. I am still so unbelievably sad about what has happened to certain of the characters and about what Alex has become.

I spotlighted this for my Book Watch post last month but I’m now terrified to find out who wins in the end. The world has taken a darker turn with each installment in the series. And with a title like EXECUTION, I can only imagine things will get even darker.

I am hopeful the “executed” will be who I want it to be. But even if that happens, I’m not at all confident that means a happy ending for Alex or his friends. And I’m more than nervous about checking out the series epilogue on the author’s website.

Now I just have to get over my “series ending” fears and pick this book up later this week. If only it downloaded last night when I was feeling daring.

BLACK CITY by Elizabeth Richards was released in the U.S. today, November 13, 2012, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Putnam Juvenile, the print edition is 384 pages.

BLACK CITY is the first book in the author’s Black City Chronicles. The second book in the series, PHOENIX, is slated for release on June 4, 2013 and the third book, currently untitled, will release in 2014.

    ***

I only fairly recently – in the past three months or so – heard about BLACK CITY. I’d seen it around the blogosphere but hadn’t realized it was a YA release until I saw it on Parajunkee’s blog. And my curiosity was piqued.

I received an ARC of BLACK CITY from the awesome Jaime of Two Chicks on Books, but haven’t yet had the chance to read it. Though I do now also have the eBook happily residing on my Kindle from my pre-order. Decisions… decisions….

I love the first line of the description for this book – “A dark and tender post-apocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war.” It’s gotten me so interested in finding out more about both the love story and the war.

I am dying to find out what a Darkling is and why they are at war with the humans. I am so curious as to what this “mysterious connection” is that bonds Natalie and Ash, causing Ash’s heart to beat. And I’m hopeful that the choices they make don’t result in either or both of their deaths.

I had hoped to read this early, but as that didn’t happen as planned, I am now hoping to put this back on top of the pile next week.

BAD HAIR DAY by Carrie Harris was released in the U.S. today, November 13, 2012, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 240 pages.

BAD HAIR DAY is the second book in the author’s Kate Grable series. Also releasing today is a short story in the series entitled BAD YETI.

    ***

I have not yet read the first book in Carrie Harris’ series but I desperately want to. So, of course I had to pre-order BAD HAIR DAY, since I already own book one.

I was so tempted to start the series last night before this sequel downloaded to my Kindle. Because, though I probably shouldn’t have, I did end up taking a peek at the description.

And I love that this sequel takes on a new, hairy, paranormal element… possibly… rather than continuing the zombie menace.

I can’t wait to meet Kate Grable and find out whether she’s just as good at sleuthing other types of attacks as she is zombie attacks. I really hope she is for her sake and for her peers’ sakes.

And I love the last line in the description that says – “It’s scary. It’s twisted. It’s sick. It’s high school.” Yep, that about sums it up.

Hopefully I’ll get to read this series over the long holiday weekend here in the U.S.

REACHED by Ally Condie was released in the U.S. today, November 13, 2012, in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Dutton Juvenile, the print edition is 384 pages.

REACHED is the third and final book in author Ally Condie’s Matched trilogy.

    ***

I have not started this series and now it’s ending with REACHED. I can’t believe it! I officially now own all the books in this series so there’s no reason why I shouldn’t start reading them. Because now I don’t have to wait to find answers.

I want to meet Cassia and Ky and find out just what happens with these characters – whether they get a happy ending or whether their story ends in heartbreaking loss.

I have not taken too close a look at the descriptions for these last two books because I want the story to be a surprise. But I am so curious to see how things play out.

This series is touted as a best-selling series. And the covers are totally amazing. And now that I’ve become a fan of dystopian novels this one ranks at the top of my list of must-reads. I hope I can read all three books this December.

ECHO by Alyson Noel was released in the U.S. today, November 13, 2012, in hardcover, paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Griffin, the print edition is 352 pages.

ECHO is the second book in author Alyson Noel’s Soul Seekers series. The third book in the series, MYSTIC, releases on May 7, 2013 and the fourth book, currently untitled, is slated for release in the fall of 2013.

    ***

I love Alyson Noel’s writing and the enchanting worlds she creates. And while I haven’t yet started this series I do own the first book and had pre-ordered ECHO which downloaded to my Kindle today.

I am so very curious to meet the girl who can “navigate between the worlds of the living and the dead.” Although it sounds like things take a bit of a dark turn in this second book in the series. Dark sorcerers. An evil brother whose power is growing. The balance between good and evil at risk. The entire world in jeopardy. A horrifying prophecy. And an unthinkable sacrifice.

Yes, this definitely sounds like it takes a turn. And with characters with super awesome names like Daire, Dace and Cade, this series is one I can’t wait to read about really, really soon.

SPEED OF LIGHT by Amber Kizer was released in the U.S. today, November 13, 2012, in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, the print edition is 544 pages.

SPEED OF LIGHT is the third book in the author’s Fenestra series. Originally dubbed a trilogy, a fourth book, COUNTING TENS is slated for release in the spring of 2013.

    ***

I am so devastated I’ve fallen so far behind on this series. I pre-ordered SPEED OF LIGHT as soon as it was made available for the Kindle and I had hoped to be caught up with the series before this third book released. But sadly that did not happen.

I loved getting to know Meridian in the first book in the series. I’d waited for ages until book two was released but got so busy on the blog I didn’t have time to read it when it finally was available. And now book three is out. Which means I have much catching up to do.

Especially as it seems there will be a fourth book in the series, according to Goodreads. Though I’m wondering if it is a spinoff book from Tens’ perspective. I suppose I’ll have to wait just a bit longer to find out as the author’s website didn’t clue me in.

I am not checking out the description as I want zero spoilers when I finally get the chance to read this book. But I loved the author’s writing in book one, I loved the idea of the Fenestra and I loved the characters she created. And I really, really hope to be able to catch up on this series before COUNTING TENS is available next spring.

WOLF PACT Part 3 by Melissa de la Cruz was released today, November 13, 2012, in eBook format only. It is currently available to order online as an eBook at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The eBook is published by Disney Hyperion.

WOLF PACT Part 3 is the third of four installments from author Melissa de la Cruz’s WOLF PACT. Part 4 is due out on December 4th.

    ***

I am waiting for all four parts of WOLF PACT to download before I start reading it. Because I don’t want to have to wait between each installment’s release. Though I probably then should have just purchased the completed eBook when it does release instead of pre-ordering each installment. Oh well.

I did take a look at the description and it has piqued my curiosity. I want to know just what kind of trap Lawson lures Bliss into. And I want to know if they do fall in love. But as the description is vague about just what happens in this installment, I suppose I’ll have to read it to find out more.

And once the final installment releases this December, I hope to find the answers I’ve been waiting for. But I can’t wait to read about Bliss in her very own novel, though I will always be partial to Schuyler and Jack and the rest of the Blue Bloods.

Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers

    (AMAZONBARNES & NOBLE)

    ***

This was a huge week for releases. I don’t even know how I’ll be able to catch up on all these new books let alone the series that I’m so behind on. But I will be reading RENEGADE and EXECUTION and BLACK CITY in the next week or two.

And I will be gently petting SOUL SCREAMERS VOLUME TWO. No, I will not be breaking the spine on that book. The pretteh is only for looking at.

Of course Amazon had to be difficult and instead of downloading all my books at nine o’clock local time, they waited until Midnight, at which time I was just about out cold and couldn’t possibly have read a thing.

But I really must, must, must get caught up on Carrie Harris’s Kate Grable series and Amber Kizer’s Fenestra series. And if I don’t end up reading the Matched trilogy by year’s end, I’ll feel like a total fail.

And though it’s not listed, I did end up pre-ordering Night’s Darkest Embrace by Jeaniene Frost which I am so very interested in reading later this week.

    Anyway…

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
