She has moved up from selling cotton candy to telling fortunes, she has a gorgeous, magical boyfriend, Kingston…and no one has been murdered since the clash between the otherworldly Courts. …My Thoughts

I am so unbelievably excited to be able to share this AMAZING cover for A. R. Kahler’s THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS ACT TWO. While it’s not technically a reveal, as it was posted on Amazon the other day, I just had to create a spotlight post for it, as I think it’s stunningly beautiful.

And while I loved the cover for the first book in this awesome series, I L.O.V.E. the cover for the sequel at least one hundred times more.

The shades of blue really stand out against the dark background. The bodies draped over one another make for a very interesting and dynamic base for the solo female performer. And even with their presence on this cover, she manages to take the spotlight.

I love how both covers in the series are simple but incredibly beautiful. I love how, in both, the focus is on the performer but the bright white, simple yet elegant font used for the title also draws the eye.

I love how the light source leaves some of the performers in shadow yet highlights the main performer, making the blue in her outfit pop against the dark background even more.

But that’s what I think…. And if this cover turns out to be just as gorgeous as the cover for the first book in print, I’ll definitely have to pick up a physical copy for my collection.

    Anyway…

As I am such a huge fan of this author and his series, I wanted to offer up a copy of the first book in the series for giveaway along with my post. This way, yet another person can suffer the wait for the next installment to be released, much like I am.

And if you haven’t yet heard about this author or the first book in the series, here’s just a little bit about them both.

    THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS COVER

    About The Immortal Circus

Murdered contortionists aren’t exactly what Vivienne signed up for when she ran away to join the circus. But like most things under the big top, nothing is what it seems. With a past she can’t quite remember, Vivienne finds that running away forever might not be as appealing as it once sounded–especially not when she realizes the devilishly attractive ringleader Mab is the Faerie Queen of legend–and that she and the rest of the troupe are locked in an age-old rivalry between the otherworldly Courts.

Aided by her friends Kingston–a feisty stage magician whose magic is quickly stealing her heart–and his smart-ass assistant Melody, Vivienne finds herself racing against the clock to discover the culprit behind a series of deaths that should be impossible. However, the answer she seeks might reveal more about her own bloody past–and future–than she bargained for. The show’s just beginning.

    The Immortal Circus Blog Tour: Review, Teaser + Giveaway – Summer Court {Week Ten}

I’m kicking off the final week of the 10-week THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS Blog Tour which makes me equal parts happy and sad. Happy because I got the opportunity to read the final episode and learn just a little bit more about Lilith and Mab… and learn a lot more about the author.

About how he likes to give readers just enough to keep them wanting to know more. About how he likes to leave many questions for the sequel…. Oh, did I forget to tell you? Yes, there is going to be a sequel. And while I don’t have all the details about that, I will just say that it is topping my list of “must read now” books.

I am also happy because today kicks off the more traditional two week tour for THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS at Fantasy Book Addict with a guest post and an entirely different giveaway.

    But I’m also sad.

Sad because come next Monday I won’t have another guest post to share from the author or my favorite King of the Summer Court, Oberon. After what happened in the final episode I am, without any doubt, TEAM SUMMER.

And while I can’t reveal exactly what happened, let me just say that Oberon – and Hannah of  In the Best Worlds and I – need all of your support. Because that Mab plays dirty.

I will be posting my final mini-review for this dark and gorgeous book today, along with my overall thoughts on the serial and book. And I also have my final teaser to share. Which is awesome and chilling to say the least.

The last look at this amazing book will be revealed tomorrow at The Bookish Brunette. So be sure to stop by. Because I couldn’t agree with Vivienne’s last sentence more.

There will be two more guest posts later this week for this tour. But there will also be interviews, guest posts and reviews for the two-week tour. You can find the schedule for that tour, HERE.

And lastly, before I stop rambling and get to my review, share my favorite passage and the teaser the author provided, I just want to say THANK YOU so much to the incredibly talented and amazing Alex Kahler for writing such a fantastic book. For being such a wonderful author to work with on this tour. For creating a story that has kept me hooked week after week as I waited for each episode to download. For writing such intriguing characters. And for putting together words in such a magical way that I was transported, even for such a short time, into his Cirques des Immortels.

Mini-review: Episode Five + Serial Summation

What an explosive and epic conclusion to an absolutely amazing novel. This final episode, which encompasses chapters sixteen through nineteen plus the epilogue, is the most action-packed of the book.

It was full of surprises – about Vivienne, about Lilith, and about characters whose names alone, were I to reveal them, would be spoiler-y. It answered some, but not all, of the questions raised throughout the novel. It left the door wide open for the next book in this series. And while not leaving off on a traditional cliff, I felt like I was left hanging off the side of a mountain, without a rope.

Each episode has been building up to this conclusion, which if I were to call it “climactic” would be a major understatement. The tension has been mounting between the courts, between Lilith and Vivienne, between Kingston and Vivienne, between Mab and Vivienne. And that all comes to a head in this final episode.

Secrets that had been buried have been dragged into the light. Motives have been revealed. A war has been waged. And the casualties definitely have piled up in this final installment.

While I am left with so many questions about the fate of the Cirque des Immortels, about the Summer and Winter fae, about Mab and most of all about Vivienne, I do not feel cheated by the ending to this book. Answers were given about the “accidents,” about the Summer Fae’s appearance and about Lilith.

And some, but once again not all, information was revealed about Vivienne and her past.

THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS is a dark, captivating, and at times seductive, read. Released in serial format, each episode teases the story in a way that will keep readers riveted and make them anxious to return for the next episode.

It keeps them guessing throughout – about the characters’ pasts, about the characters themselves and about who is behind just what is going wrong. It keeps them intrigued – about the contracts, about Vivienne, about Kingston, about the Summer Court’s role, about Lilith. It keeps them wanting more.

Author A.R. Kahler has created a story that weaves together two fantastical elements – the fantasy world of the fae and the fantasy of what life is like under the big top. He has written scenes that are filled with beauty and magic and others that are dark, chilling and at time horrifying. He has given each of his characters a rather unique voice which makes them memorable week after week.

And he has introduced a world unlike any other I’ve journeyed into.

While I am curious to see just how I’d experience this book if I read it all in one sitting, I can’t imagine not having experienced it first in its episodic format. The author did a masterful job at giving just enough of the story in each episode to satisfy my curiosity until the next installment was released.

Whether in serial format or as a completed novel, THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS is a must read for those who like to dip into the world of fantasy, to read something with just a touch of darkness, to experience a story that teases its secrets from beginning to end, and to be left hanging, with as many questions as answers, for the sequel.

Now that I’ve completed this book, I can finally give it my rating.

    Reviewer gives this book….

    06menu

Like In-N-Out Burger‘s infamous secret menu this one deserves my off-the-menu 6 star rating.

    Favorite passage

I had quite a few favorites, however all but one are so very, very spoiler-y. And most all of those involve Lilith. So I chose a favorite passage that wasn’t  of the jaw-dropping, startling or “what the heck just happened” variety and went with one that made me sigh… that is before it made me so very sad.

But that part I won’t share.

Every blink, every moment of darkness, and I felt his lips on mine, tasted the cinnamon of his tongue and felt the heat of his breath. Every blink, and I was back, crushed against his chest. Every blink, and I wished it would have lasted longer.

    The Teaser

I try to swallow the blood in my mouth but the iron makes me want to gag. Lilith leans in close to my ear. “You are very lucky we are currently on the same side. Otherwise it would be so, so simple to dispose of you.”

Poe hisses by our side and Lilith jerks her attention to the field. Something rustles in the undergrowth. Something chuckles. The sun has set, the horizon fading to hues of fiery pink and orange.

Then, something takes flight, a streak of fire that arcs high overhead. We both watch it fly, watch as it curves to the other horizon. There’s a flash of light when it falls out of sight and then another flies a similar path. Then another. Arrows.

Lilith and I look at each other. Her eyes go wide and the fire inside both of us vanishes.

The Summer Fey have arrived. We’re already too late.

    The Immortal Circus Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway – Summer Court {Week NINE}

Wow, there are just two weeks left for THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS Blog Tour. The final episode was released last week and the full-length novel in print and electronic formats are now available. And starting next week the more traditional tour for the book will begin. So be sure to check that out.

As with most series, I’ve been hesitant to start the final episode in this serial novel. As desperate as I am to find those answers I’ve been looking for, I am not ready to say goodbye. Of course as my stop next week must include my review of that final episode, I won’t be able to delay the inevitable for much longer.

But for now, I’m pretending that I won’t have to say goodbye to Vivienne, Kingston, Lilith, Mab and the rest of the characters I’ve grown to adore… and fear.

    Anyway….

Once again King Oberon has paid me a visit. And it appears that he’s no longer willing to play nice. The gloves had already come off. But this time he’s made things personal. This time he’s taking the offensive. A position that I’m certain Mab will not be quite so willing to let him have for long.

I seriously hope that he knows just how hard Hannah of In the Best Worlds and I have worked to try and show our readers just how important it is to VOTE for the SUMMER COURT. With less than two weeks left until the “voting” ends, we cannot stress enough just how wrong it will be to allow the Winter Court to be victorious.

They’re the court that’s violated a long-standing treaty. They’re the court that is plotting against the Summer Fae. They’re the court that are protecting someone that shouldn’t be protected. And they’re the ones who launched an attack.

So please choose SUMMER for the win! Just because they have Kingston doesn’t mean they’re the good guys.

And if you’re looking to see just how Mab responds to Oberon’s declaration of war, be sure to check out The Bookish Brunette tomorrow. But just remember. Mab is not the innocent party here.

    Friends,

It has recently come to my attention that Queen Mab has violated an ages-old treaty between the Courts. I am not at liberty to divulge the exact details of this treaty, but I can state that this violation equates to an open declaration of war.

Rumours have been confirmed. Mab is hiding a girl she is calling Lilith. This girl is extremely dangerous; do not be deceived by her youthful nature. She has caused the deaths of more than you can imagine, and she will gladly do it again. Mab has something up her sleeve. Something more dangerous than I can begin to imagine. The worlds of Fey and human can no longer be considered safe, not so long as this girl remains under Mab’s care.

As such, this is your—yes you, the reader—last opportunity to pick the winning team. After this week, there will be no more civil discourse. And after next week, the Winter Court will not exist.

    Pick your side.
You don’t have any time left.
    -Oberon

    The Immortal Circus Blog Tour: Review, Teaser + Giveaway – Summer Court {Week Eight}

It is the start of week eight of THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS Blog Tour. And I am super excited because this week the final episode releases and the book’s official birthday is on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.

With just three weeks remaining on the tour and only one more chance for Oberon to check in on just how I’m doing in support of the Summer Court, I am both saddened and relieved.

Saddened this book will be concluding. Saddened that there will be only one more teaser for me to share after this week. Saddened that I’ll only have one more peek at Kingston. And saddened that I won’t be teamed up with Hannah of  In the Best Worlds to try and defeat the seemingly all-powerful Mab and her Winter Court.

But I will be relieved that I’ll be able to rest my battle-weary self without having to worry about just what Oberon might do. And relieved that I will get to read the final episode in just a few days and I won’t have to suffer the wait for each new episode. I shall have my answers!

Of course I’ve heard some things… things best left unspoken for now. I’ll just have to share that in two weeks when I’ll be reviewing the next – and final – episode.

Today I’m reviewing Episode Four. And as there are lots and lots of things that happen in this particular episode it may be slightly vague, as I’m desperately trying to keep my reviews spoiler-free. Even the teaser I’ve been allowed to share doesn’t give away too much.

Although the teaser that will be included tomorrow at The Bookish Brunette, along with her review, is rather… how shall I say it… revealing. Yes, revealing… perhaps deliciously revealing… but revealing nonetheless. Though it’s one you won’t want to miss.

My review, as always, is an attempt at mini review. But with the way I do tend to go on… and on… and on… I hope I’ve kept it as vague as I’d intended without being too obscure, murky or otherwise unclear.

Oh, and one last thing… be sure to visit all the stops this week for more chances to win one of the four IMMORTAL CIRCUS Prize Packs and to check out this week’s guest posts.

    Mini-review: Episode Four

After the cliffhanger ending of Episode Three, I didn’t think I could be any more anxious for another episode in this series. And yet, when I reached the end of Episode Four I was more desperate than ever for the fifth and final episode.

The episode begins to answer those questions about Kingston and Vivienne that have been teasing and tormenting readers throughout the series. And while certain things about Vivienne’s past are revealed, there are still more questions awaiting answers about just where she came from, just what she did and just why she entered into the contract she was given.

Each answer revealed seems to lead to more questions. With the biggest puzzle of all revolving around Lilith. About just who and what she is. About just what it is she can do. And about just what her fixation on Kingston means for Vivienne.

There are still questions about many of the characters’ motivations, questions about what the Summer Court will do in retaliation for the events that took place at the start of this episode, questions about what Mab will do after a rather damning discovery she made and questions about the future of the Cirque des Immortels.

Episode Four adds even more twists and turns to this already mysterious, dark and twisty story. It invites readers even further into this world that is full of secrets, lies, deception and betrayal. A deadly world of illusions where no one is safe. Where no one can be trusted. Where anything seems possible.

At just four chapters, this latest episode is an incredibly quick read, but packs the most information onto its pages of any of the previous episodes. And it sets the story up for what I can only imagine will be an epic conclusion.

With tensions growing between the Summer and Winter Court, between Mab and Vivienne, between Vivienne and Kingston and between Vivienne and Lilith, it doesn’t sound like things will end happily at the conclusion of this story. Someone… or many someones… are bound to lose. And it seems very likely one of those someones will be Vivienne.

And with the way the episode ended – with betrayal, a set up, and a broken heart – the fifth and final episode promises to be deadly, exciting, and heartbreaking. And it is one that I am anxiously waiting for on the very edge of my seat.

    Favorite passage

All my most favorite passages were spoiler-y. And my very most favorite one was the spoiler-y-est of them all. Because it was the last two paragraphs of this episode. The passage that made me incredibly desperate for next week’s episode.

But this very short passage is one that I also love, as it says so very much, in very few words, yet very beautifully.

I’m smiling, but I can feel it slip. Something digs in the back of my head, something pulling itself up to consciousness. It smells of brimstone and fear.

    The Teaser

“I’m three hundred and forty-one,” Kingston says.

The numbers drop like guillotines, but he doesn’t look away from me as he says them. Clearly, he’s judging my response. I try to keep my face composed, and my response is as witty as I can make it.

“You don’t look a day over two hundred,” I say. “Must be all the popcorn.”

He shakes his head, but he’s smiling nonetheless. Again, he looks at me like I’m amusing. But there’s something else behind it. Surprise?

“What did you do?” I ask. “Why did you join?” Most of our performers were in a bind, Mab had said. What could Kingston have done?

“Well,” he says. “I used to live in Salem.”

Well we’re definitely getting closer to finding out how THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS ends. Episode four (of five) released last week and all I can say right now… since it’s not my turn to review it… is that the author is such a tease. There are so many questions that I have to wait for the final episode to have answered. Talk about building up to a climatic conclusion. Episode five is going to be insane. In an amazing way, of course.

This is now the seventh (of ten) weeks of THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS Blog Tour and I really hope that Hannah of In the Best Worlds and I have managed to convince you to VOTE for the SUMMER COURT. Our reputations… and possibly our blogs… depend on it.

King Oberon is not someone I’d call forgiving. And he does control the publishing industry. So you see our predicament. We don’t want to be banished from reading – or receiving – the books we love. So, please consider casting your vote for SUMMER!

This week I have an extra special blog post from the author. It’s the first part of an interview he conducted with Annabel “Banana” Morgan of Clowns Without Borders South Africa, an organization that’s near and dear to his heart… and yes he may have used those words but I said the exact same thing.

There is a lovely note from Alex and – believe it or not – our dear King Oberon has been kind enough to make the introduction.

The second part of the interview will be revealed tomorrow at The Bookish Brunette, so be sure to stop by there to check it out. And even though that post is equally as awesome, I still highly recommend casting your vote for SUMMER!

    Greetings Mortals,

I have been in conference with Queen Mab, and we have decided to take a week off from our quarrel to invite Alex back to discuss something of great importance to both our Courts. Unheard of, I understand, especially so close to the end of our tour. But worry not! Next week we will be back to our competition.

    Sincerely,

    Oberon

    A Note from Alex…

    Hey guys,

As Oberon said, this week we’re doing things a little differently. Summer and Winter are pairing up to fully cover something rather near and dear to my heart: giving back.

When I first started writing, I made the promise to myself that I’d give a percentage of whatever I made from my books to some sort of charity. Preferably, a charity somewhat related to the book’s topic. But what charity relates to the circus?

Thankfully, this past summer I met with a girl working for an amazing orgnization that blends humanitarian outreach with circus arts. The group? Clowns Without Borders South Africa. There are many chapters all over the world, and when she shared what she did, I knew I wanted to help out.

So, today and tomorrow I’m sharing the interview I had with her. It’s definitely worth a read to learn more about this amazing foundation, and I highly recommend visiting their site and helping the cause. They make real change in the lives of the children and adults they work with, and all of their money goes directly to the dedicated performers/workers in the field.

I’m grateful to be able to support their cause. Because of your awesomeness, I was able to donate $500 to this group, and I plan on giving more as time moves forward. Keep an eye on my site (www.arkahler.com) to learn more about the various charities your support of my work is aiding. Let’s keep the good energy flowing!

    Best,

    Alex

Interview with Annabel “Banana” Morgan (Pt 1)

During my time with The Circus Village, I had the opportunity to get to know Annabel, an amazing girl from South Africa who works for a very special relief organization, Clowns Without Borders South Africa (CWBSA). One afternoon, she graciously sat down with me in the cafe tent and allowed me to interview her.

Alex: First off, thanks for talking with me about CWBSA. Could you briefly tell us about the organization and how you became involved?

Annabel: Gladly! CWBSA is a humanitarian organization dedicated to bringing emotional relief through laughter and play to communities in crisis in southern Africa. I was ‘clowning around’ in Swaziland when I heard about CWBSA and I thought it brought together everything that I love; the performance and healing aspects through creative expression, playing, and working with children. I came from a performance background, but it wasn’t enough to just perform onstage. CWBSA was my perfect job. It was very serendipitous; I mentioned to a colleague that I wanted to work with them and he said they were doing an audition the next day. I dropped everything and went—I knew this was the work I was destined to do. This was early 2010, I believe.

Alex: From your experiences, what are the effects CWBSA has on the local communities?

Annabel: It’s hard to measure the effects. You just feel it; when the clowns enter a community to do a show, there is an excitement in the village—it’s a time of celebration. We have to be really organized otherwise it becomes chaos; sometimes we perform for over 2k children. I think the best way to describe the effect it has is to just share a few stories.

There was one show we did in the eastern Cape last year, and there was a routine where we needed a volunteer. I picked an 8y/o boy, and during the routine he was one of those volunteers who really just made us look like clowns. It was fantastic. Afterward, the principal came to talk to us and he wanted to thank us, not only for relieving the stress of the teachers, but he said that the young boy was HIV positive and suffered from severe headaches. He’d been out of school the last two weeks and showed up just that day—when the principal asked the boy how he felt after the performance, the kid was all smiles and said he felt amazing.

Those are the kind of stories you hear. Apart from the obvious effect of crowds laughing and jumping off their seats, it’s those individual stories that make you realize you’re just dropping a stone in the water; the ripples are huge. So many of these places are torn apart by poverty or HIV and there is no relief—especially not emotionally. We’re sometimes the only time these people—kids and adults—have to laugh or play or just be happy together.

Sometimes we go back to communities and find out that our songs and skits have spread for kilometers in these rural areas—out there, people don’t have cars, they always walk. It shows our work is really reaching the community in big ways.

Obviously, that’s the performances. When we go back (for ten days in the Njabulo program) we can talk about how things are or are not changing. If they aren’t changing, we problem solve and open up to group discussions so the community can find solutions. For example, one of the most powerful things I’ve heard was a 54 y/old woman caregiver saying ‘ before you came, we thought it was our time to die. Now, we feel alive again.’

For a fantastic video of what they do, check this out:

Make sure to check out the rest of the interview over at The Bookish Brunette tomorrow!

Firstly, what a generous and amazing thing to be doing, Alex. The cause sounds so worthy and valuable! And what a beautiful story. Being able to bring joy to children alone would be a great gift, but to open up communication in the community to find solutions gives those citizens power over their lives. And that’s a truly special gift.

Thank you Alex and Annabel for sharing.

This interview continues over at The Bookish Brunette tomorrow, so be sure to head over there to check it out.

Murdered contortionists aren’t exactly what Vivienne signed up for when she ran away to join the circus. But like most things under the big top, nothing is what it seems. With a past she can’t quite remember, Vivienne finds that running away forever might not be as appealing as it once sounded—especially not when she realizes the devilishly attractive ringleader Mab is the Faerie Queen of legend…and that she and the rest of the troupe are locked in an age-old rivalry between the otherworldly Courts.

Aided by her friends Kingston—a feisty stage magician whose magic is quickly stealing her heart—and his smart-ass assistant Melody, Vivienne finds herself racing against the clock to discover the culprit behind a series of deaths that should be impossible. However, the answer she seeks might reveal more about her own bloody past—and future—than she bargains for.

    The Immortal Circus Blog Tour: Review, Teaser + Giveaway – Summer Court {Week Six}

I never knew ten weeks could pass by so quickly! Okay, so we’re only in week six of THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS Blog Tour. But the previous five weeks absolutely flew by.

And with only five weeks left and only two episodes to go until we discover just how this book will end, what’s going on with Vivienne, what secret Mab is keeping from her about her past and which court will be the victor, it doesn’t seem like a lot of time.

Both Hannah of  In the Best Worlds and I have been fighting the good fight for our beloved Summer Court… but with what has been revealed so far in the guest posts, teasers and episodes, it’s not looking good.

    Especially not when….

Okay, okay, I won’t say a thing. It, I believe, is in my contract to remain silent. Anyway….

Today I’m sharing a short review and teaser of Episode Three. The final peek at this episode will be revealed tomorrow at The Bookish Brunette. Then you’ll have to wait until next week to get two more sneak peeks. But don’t forget to check out all the stops this week for more chances to win and to check out this week’s guest posts.

As always, my reviews are of the mini variety so that I don’t reveal too much or give away any spoilers. But with the way things ended… and with just what happened to…..

    Mini-review: Episode Three

As each week passes and more is uncovered about THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS, the more I wish I had the entire novel to devour. Because I know that this would be a book I’d sit down and read in one sitting if I had the opportunity.

But I don’t. And so, each week I have to wait to become immersed in this dark and strange and wonderful world. One that is described so beautifully by the author. With a main character who I’ve grown to adore, even if she is a complete mystery.

This week’s episode of THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS was a total tease on so many fronts. It revealed just a hint about Vivienne’s past, about her agreement with Mab and about who she might be. It was a bit more revealing about Kingston, however. But that reveal was even more of a tease.

In this episode, things are becoming rather dire for the Cirque des Immortels, a beloved character’s future is uncertain, and the mystery is deepening about just who, aside from their obvious enemy, is conspiring against them – and why. Even Mab may not be all too sure about who they are and why they are. Or if she is, she certainly isn’t telling.

Author A.R. Kahler really knows how to build suspense into each week’s short peek at his novel. With every episode, I find myself even more anxious for the next. And this week’s episode, which encompassed chapters eight through eleven, was no exception.

In fact, the cliffhanger ending this week had me desperately trying to flip to the next digital page, even when I knew there wasn’t another.

THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS is enchanting and enticing, dark and inviting. The author’s expert use of imagery makes his story leap off the page. His words create the most captivating and vivid pictures that excite the imagination. And while much of this story as yet remains a mystery, it is one that will keep readers coming back for more.

    Favorite passage

I actually had a favorite passage, but it was included in one of the teasers last week. Of course it wasn’t my only favorite passage… just my most favorite one. And yes, it was about Kingston.

Though there were actually nine other favorites that I noted… here’s just one.

The fire inside is flash and thunder and everything is roaring, roaring, the world ripping apart and filing itself back together. It’s nails on concrete fire in water trees on fire burning through suns and stars and emptiness circling the tunnel of falling, falling, falling into white. Then there’s someone’s words cutting through it all.

“I call upon line 23C. Forget.”

    The Teaser

A pair of tiny scissors appears in his hands. The blades glint in the candlelight. He reaches down into the basket and snips, pulling out a tiny square of cloth. It’s barely the size of a thumbnail.

“This,” he says, holding the square with the scissor blades like a tiny morsel, “would sell in the Night Market for a minor favor or a day’s worth of subjugation.” He holds it out. “But I’ll give you a taste for free.”

    “It’s a scrap of fabric.”

“Just touch it,” he says. I reach out. He drops the tiny blue square of cloth in my palm.

Lights explode across my vision and suddenly I’m no longer in the trailer; I’m soaring through the clouds, light shining from the heavens. My arms are stretched out to the sides and I’m giddy, laughing, bubbling with happiness. I swoop down, break cloud cover and smile at the brilliant green fields that stretch all the way to the horizon. I bank right, coast into a beam of soft sunlight—

    The Immortal Circus Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway – Summer Court {Week FIVE}

It’s hard to believe that we’re already in week five of THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS Blog Tour and that three of the book’s amazing episodes have been released. I’ve been fighting the urge to start reading Episode Three because I already know just how torturous the wait has been between each episode and how much more agonizing it will be as the story goes on.

I’ve also been warned of a killer cliffhanger. Which makes me even more nervous….

This is not my first serial experience. And with each installment the wait gets that much harder to bear. But that will be next week’s post. The one in which you will see just how much I loved the latest episode and how much I’m pining for the next. This week, I have a guest post to share as I continue to show my ever-loving support for King Oberon and the Summer Court along with Hannah of In the Best Worlds.

Oberon, Warlord extraordinaire, does a brilliant job of pleading his case and planting a seed of doubt in my mind about just how good a leader Mab really is. The workers at the Cirque du Soleil really do seem to be having fun and sharing the workload in the referenced video. And after witnessing just how tired Mab’s workers were after breaking down their Big Top in last week’s episode, I wonder if she does have any compassion at all.

Oh gosh, I really hope she doesn’t stop by to read my commentary. She will be visiting The Bookish Brunette tomorrow to rebut these claims that Oberon has made. If you want to hear her side of things be sure to check it out.

But before that, here’s what King Oberon has to say….

    Greetings mortals,

We now find ourselves in the middle of this tour. I hope by now your minds and hearts have been won over by the light of Summer. But if not, I still have a few tricks up my sleeve for the coming weeks. Be sure to comment and cast your vote! More than you know depends on the victor.

Today, I wanted to share yet one more reason why you should vote for Summer. In the Summer Court, we value safety and regulation. Ruling over wily fey requires a great deal of structure. And so, I thought it would be wise to share with you yet another reason why Mab is failing not only as a ringleader, but as a queen. It is but a small example, but one that I hope will help sway your heart. Below, you will find a video of her rival circus setting up their own big top. Please do watch it.

Do you see how well they work? They wear hard hats and work in unison, they listen to uplifting music. There are so many of them to help ease the burden of the job.

I know for a fact that within Mab’s troupe, she has only a dozen or so tent crew to manage raising and lowering the tent. And they do not wear hard hats.

Mab clearly places great physical stresses on her performers. They are endangered by the very work they choose to do. Why would you support such malpractice? It is akin to visiting a zoo where the creatures are kept in very small cages. It is cruelty to stare and support.

Let us end Mab’s reign for good. It starts with your vote.

    Sincerely,

    Oberon

OSHA Certified Warlord and Publishing Guru

    ***

You make a very compelling argument, Oberon. The workers do appear to love their jobs and I know for a fact, after reading last week’s episode, that things are a bit strained for Mab’s team. However, there are other factors that may be causing that strain.

Oh and no! I’m not implying that it’s our court that’s at fault or in any way involved with that. Really. I’m not. I meant nothing by that comment. At all.

    Please believe me. Please!

    *Ahem* So anyway….

Until next week…. I really hope there’s a next week for me… think TEAM SUMMER and hope that my insolence doesn’t cost me.
