My Favorite Quote from… Black Ice

    myfavoritequote

I was not sure what to expect when I read BLACK ICE by Becca Fitzpatrick. This standalone promised to be quite the departure from her Hush, Hush series. And it was. And it was fan-freaking-tastic.

It was suspenseful and chilling and kept me guessing about certain things that I will not reveal. And it was action-packed and exciting, and there were even moments that were romantic and sexy as heck.

I would have loved to tease a passage that captured some of those more chilling moments – as they were my most favorite. But every time I grabbed one to post, I realized it would have spoiled that portion of the story. And so I chose this one…

    My Favorite Quote

“It started out like this,” I said in that same hushed voice. With me. Under you.

He wiped a strand of hair off my cheek. He held his hand there a moment, debating. An unfathomable look flickered in his brown eyes, and I had no idea what he was thinking, or what his next move would be.  – Britt Pfieffer

The author did a fantastic job of creating nail-biting suspense in her novel. And I would have loved to share just one of those jaw-dropping, horror-inducing moments. But they are best left discovered in the story.

Instead I chose just a portion of a very sexy exchange between Britt and another character, who I shall not name, as it, too, is one of my most favorite aspects to BLACK ICE. Becca Fitzpatrick knows just how to create those perfect, swoony-worthy scenes and she brought that skill to her latest novel.

If I were to share a longer excerpt from this particular part of the book, you’d probably need a fan. Because it gets pretty hot.

But it was that first line, the quote from Britt with the two short sentences unsaid, that grabbed me immediately. It made my breath catch. It laser-focused my attention. Because I knew that what followed would sizzle.

    And it definitely did.

So while the shocking lines that set this book apart from the author’s other series were among my most favorite, it was this moment, this quote and short passage, that brought a new dimension to this story. A story I absolutely loved.

    But what about you?

Are you excited to read Becca Fitzpatrick’s BLACK ICE? Do you love stories that will thrill and chill, that also add a touch of romance?

Have you read it already and found it to be as awesome as you’d hoped it would be? And if you have, what were some of your most favorite aspects to the story?

Was it the nail-biting suspense? Was it the danger? Was it the excitement of trying to guess who was guilty? Was it not knowing who to trust?

And was there a quote or passage that you loved that was different from the one I chose, or was it this particular sizzling scene that you bookmarked as a favorite?

My Favorite Quote from… A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU

    MyFaveQuote

I have been hitting the jackpot with my reads as of late. And one of my recent reads was so amazing that I just can’t stop thinking about it. That read is A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU by Claudia Gray.

It is my favorite book by the author. The author brought so much to the story, to her characters. She gave readers so much to think about. She gave us a story that is mind-blowing and heartbreaking and beautiful and intelligent. It’s a story that can be read again and again and there will be so many new things to discover, concepts to ponder.

She also filled her story with a huge number of amazing quotes and passages. And yet I managed to choose just one for this post.

By way of introduction (a recap)…

The point of this feature is to share my favorite quote (or one of the many favorite quotes I have) from a recent read and share why it is a favorite, which will give me the chance to ramble just a bit about a book that I may not get the chance to review. And even if I opt to review a title, I still might create a “My Favorite Quote from…” post because, while most of my reviews do include a favorite quote it’s only just one of many and I don’t typically get to talk about the many reasons why it is a favorite.

    My Favorite Quote

Now I know grief is a whetstone that sharpens all your love, all your happiest memories, into blades that tear you apart from within. Something has been torn out from inside me that will never be filled up, not ever, no matter how long I live. – Marguerite Caine

There were so many moments to choose from. So many beautifully written quotes and passages that I call favorites. But the one I chose, which was only just a thought, is the one that brought me to tears, tore me apart, and made me ache for everything that Marguerite was going through.

This quote spoke to me. I know this. I feel this. It couldn’t be more true. And it couldn’t have been said any more beautifully than it was. It was absolutely perfect.

It is my most favorite passage of them all.

Of course I really do love the one that talks about the beauty of the ordinary. And all the others that I’ve highlighted as favorites. This book has so many of them that if I were to share them all, I’d practically be reprinting the entire novel. I’d also be spoiling it majorly. So I won’t.

    But what about you?

Have you read A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU? Do you find it as filled with quotes of awesome as I do? Is the passage I chose one of your favorites or is there another that tops your list?

And if this upcoming title by Claudia Gray is a book you’re dying to read, do you want to read it even more now that you’ve read the quote I chose? Or would you have preferred to get a peek at a quote that focuses more on the romance?

If you have read A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU, or are currently reading it, and have a favorite that’s different from the one I call my most favorite, I’d love to know what it is. Does it involve Theo? Or Paul? Or perhaps one of their alternate versions? Or is it something else that Marguerite thought or said… something involving Paul?

My Favorite Quote from… SNOW LIKE ASHES

    My-Fave-Quote

I recently read a book that completely blew me away. I probably shouldn’t have read it so early, since it won’t be releasing until the fall, but I couldn’t help myself. Now I’m stuck anxiously awaiting the sequel, which won’t be out for ages, and I’m craving all things high fantasy.

If you hadn’t guessed, that book is SNOW LIKE ASHES by Sara Raasch, the book I’m featuring for today’s “My Favorite Quote from…” – a book I am thinking about re-reading right now.

Someday we will be more than words in the dark. – The Winterians

I’d originally planned on choosing a favorite quote and posting about it last week. But because I have so many favorites I couldn’t decide. I’d love to be able to list ALL of them in this post. But this feature is about just listing one.

Why? Why? Why did I do that!?

Anyway… There was this quote about fear that I absolutely loved. And a passage that shared a sweet, swoon-worthy moment between Meira and Mather. There was this other quote that talked about charm that made me grin. And there was an absolutely amazing passage, with quotes from Meira and Theron, about wanting more.

But I chose the passage/quote above as my favorite because it spoke the loudest to me, it stuck with me the longest after the story, and it spoke of such an important part of this story beyond the romance. It talks of hope and survival and having a voice for a people who have been all but destroyed.

It was such a powerful and memorable and heartbreaking statement that I just had to choose it as my most favorite of all.

    What about you?

Whether you’ve read SNOW LIKE ASHES or it’s on your list TBR soon, what do you think of the quote I called a favorite? Might it have been a quote you would have chosen?

Or would you have chosen one that’s swoon-worthy, one that teases about the romance? Or perhaps, instead, would you have picked a grin-worthy passage that makes you laugh out loud?

And if you have read SNOW LIKE ASHES, what is your favorite quote? Is it one from Meira, Theron or Mather? Or from someone else altogether?

My Favorite Quote from… ON THE FENCE

    FAVORITE

As it’s going to be quite some time before I post a review for Kasie West’s ON THE FENCE, I thought I’d share a favorite quote for today’s “My Favorite Quote from…” post. Okay, I’m actually dying to share a quote from this amazing book.

And while there were all sorts of passages that tied me up in knots, one of which I plan to include with my review, there was one very specific quote that was just so perfect and gorgeous and awesome.

I thought about his question, wondered why I couldn’t talk about this during the day with him. “Because this is like a dream. It doesn’t have to be real. It almost feels like we’re floating just outside of consciousness and we can say whatever we want, and in the morning, like with dreams, it just slowly melts away. It’s like you’re up in your bed sleeping and I’m in mine and our subconscious minds are talking.” – Charlie Reynolds

Just typing it and reading it all over again makes me sigh. Isn’t it gorgeous? It so perfectly describes these moments between the characters. It paints this wonderful picture.

Some of my favorite scenes in this book were those when Charlie and Braden would have their late night talks on opposite sides of the fence. Sometimes they were sweet. Sometimes sad. Sometimes angst-filled. Sometimes heartbreaking. But all of them were so very memorable.

Which is another reason why I chose this quote as a favorite. Though there were a number of other quotes I loved, any one of which I could have chosen. Tear-your-heart-out quotes from Braden. Or grin-worthy quotes from him and Charlie’s brother Gage… specifically those that involve certain attributes or characteristics of boys Charlie should not date.

But I stand by my choice to go with the perfect quote.

    What about you?

If you’ve read ON THE FENCE, did you love this quote as much as I did? Or did you prefer the Braden quote, the one that made your heart break for Charlie?

Or maybe you liked those quotes that made you smile, or laugh, or cry just a little?

If you haven’t yet read ON THE FENCE, what do you think of the quote I chose? Does it make you want to read it to find out just what Charlie and Braden were talking about that was so much easier to do at night?

Or would you have loved to read something heartbreaking, humorous or swoon-worthy?

My Favorite Quote from… THE FOREVER SONG

    FAVORITE

I debated whether or not to reveal a quote from THE FOREVER SONG for today’s “My Favorite Quote from…” post. Especially as the quote that is my most favorite of them all is one I can’t possibly reveal as it’s a mega spoiler. But oh my gosh it’s so amazing.

And while I will be reviewing this very, very awesome series-ending book, as I am posting it for the book’s tour, it won’t be for ages.  So I decided that I just had to share a favorite quote, even if it isn’t my most favorite one.

By way of introduction (a recap)…

The point of this feature is to share my favorite quote (or one of the many favorite quotes I have) from a recent read and share why it is a favorite, which will give me the chance to ramble just a bit about a book that I may not get the chance to review. And even if I opt to review a title, I still might create a “My Favorite Quote from…” post because, while most of my reviews do include a favorite quote it’s only just one of many and I don’t typically get to talk about the many reasons why it is a favorite.

    divider700

    My Favorite Quote

“You know it’s the end of the world when Jackal starts making sense.”

There were three heart-shredding quotes I would love to have included in this post, but as I can’t share any of them without revealing too much, I thought I’d share this quote, which was also a favorite, because a) it’s about Jackal and b) it made me grin.

It was also from this really great scene that involved… well hmm… nope, too spoiler-y.

From the moment I was introduced to Jackal I loved him. Even when he was being evil, insufferable, obnoxious, I adored him. He made me roll my eyes more times than he made Allie bear her fangs. But that is all part of the charm that is him.

In THE FOREVER SONG he took over as my favorite male character – sorry Kanin. And it was possibly due to the fact that he was the most practical and made the most sense… though if I’m being completely honest with myself, it was because he was the most charming, maddening, frustrating.

I would also have loved to share what Jackal said that prompted that quote, but that, too, is spoiler-y. I can say that it involved words and phrases like “bleeding heart” and “uptight stick in the mud” and nailing “bloodbags to walls.” And I can say that what he said did make a whole heck of a lot of sense.

So, while some of those heartbreakers that Author Julie Kagawa is a master at writing and delivering are my most favorite ones – because I love that emotional roller coaster – it’s quotes like these that just give a book that extra something.

    But that’s what I think…

    What about you?

If you’ve read THE FOREVER SONG, was it lines like this, lines that make you smile, that are your favorites? Or are your favorite quotes ones that break your heart into an infinite number of pieces? Or are they ones that make you smile through the tears?

Was your favorite the quote that talks about time not mattering or the one that speaks of regrets? Or perhaps the one that talks of forever, or of oblivion, or of darkness?

Or do you have so many favorite quotes from this final installment in the series that you couldn’t possibly pick just one?

My Favorite Quote from… SWEET RECKONING

By way of introduction (a recap)…

The point of this feature is to share my favorite quote (or one of the many favorite quotes I have) from a recent read and share why it is a favorite, which will give me the chance to ramble just a bit about a book that I may not get the chance to review. And even if I opt to review a title, I still might create a “My Favorite Quote from…” post because, while most of my reviews do include a favorite quote, I don’t typically get to talk about the many reasons why it is a favorite.

Oh… and I should warn you… in many most instances there will be gushing.

    My Favorite Quote

He held his face an inch from mine. “This is our home tonight. Anywhere with you is my home.” — Kaidan Rowe

I know it’s a super short quote. I would have loved to include just a bit of the lead up to it and a bit of what follows, but it’s from a very, very spoiler-y part of the story so I won’t.

But even though it is short, it is still my favorite quote. It is the line in the book that made me melt. Completely. Nothing but a puddle of me was left behind after reading that quote.

There’s just something about a bad boy not only admitting that “home” is a good thing, but that a girl is his home. Though it’s almost as swoon-worthy when said by any boy.

Home isn’t just a place to lay your head. It’s a place that’s yours. It’s a place where you go to retreat from the world. It’s a place where you feel safe, comfortable.

So the idea that this boy, Kaidan, who probably never had a place that felt like home, saw Anna as his home, completely undid me. He could have told her he loved her a million times and it wouldn’t have made me fall to pieces in the way that seeing her as “home” did.

    {Teaser Time}

While this was my favorite quote, I had a lot of favorite quotes and passages in this chapter. And while I’d love to reveal just one or two more, I really shouldn’t. But I can say I absolutely adored the bit about the promise of “introductions.” And for those of you in the know, I have just one word: limes.

    What about you?

Have you read SWEET RECKONING? If so, what is your favorite quote and why? (If it is spoiler-y, hints or page numbers only, please.)

Or if you haven’t, what quotes or passages are the most memorable for you in The Sweet Trilogy? Are they all about Kaidan? Or do one or two of them involve Kope or Blake or Jay? Are they quotes (or passages) that have a little – or a lot of – heat?

Or, like me, are they the quotes that make you sigh? Do you sigh for Kai?

My Favorite Quote from… WAIT FOR YOU

    MyFavoriteQuote

    By way of introduction…

As this will be my first ever “My Favorite Quote from…” post I thought I’d just introduce the feature that I’d mentioned briefly during Parajunkee’s Book Blogger New Year’s Challenge. And while I originally thought I’d start the feature on The Annex, I decided I’d much rather post here on the main blog.

So… the point of this feature is to share my favorite quote (or one of the many favorite quotes I have) from a recent read and share why it is a favorite, which will give me the chance to ramble just a bit about a book that I may not get the chance to review. And even if I opt to review a title, I still might create a “My Favorite Quote from…” post because, while most of my reviews do include a favorite quote, I don’t typically get to talk about the many reasons why it is a favorite.

Oh… and I should warn you… in many instances there will be gushing.

    My Favorite Quote

“You don’t have to want to be in a relationship for a little bow-chicka-bow-wow.” — Jacob

So that quote probably wasn’t what you were expecting. In a novel filled with heart-stopping, swoon-worthy, breathtaking romance, you were probably expecting me to quote something from Avery and Cam. Something more like:

    “You’re a good guy, Cam.”

“No, I’m not.” He exhaled deeply and his breath was warm against my cheek. “I’m only good with you.”

    Am I right?

    I am, aren’t I?

    Thought so.

But it was the sometimes laugh out loud, sometimes grin-worthy humor the author peppered throughout her story that made me love this story hard. Whether from the secondary characters – Jacob, Brit, Ollie – or from Cam, with his charming arrogance and dogged persistence, it didn’t matter. It made this story more than just a fun, flirty, gut-twisty, and super sexy romance.

But it wasn’t just because I love humor that I looked forward to every scene with Jacob – especially – or Brit or Ollie. It was because I loved what these characters did for Avery. They showed her kindness, they brought her out of her shell, they made her feel wanted and accepted and… normal.

While it may have been Cam that helped her the most, if it weren’t for her other friends, she might never have gotten the courage to go to the party, to let Cam in, to finally say “yes.”

Of course it didn’t at all hurt that Jacob Massey made me laugh so hard I snorted soda… okay maybe it hurt a little… when he surmised just what Cam might have been referring to when he talked about “cookies.” And I can’t say that the nickname Señor Fucktard or the señor’s strange obsession with Cam’s turtle didn’t bring a grin or two to my face.

While I loved every moment of the swoon-y romance, every bit of sizzly-frizzly sexual tension between Avery and Cam, it was quotes like the one I chose as a favorite that served as so much more than filler between sexy-times scenes that made this book great.

And it’s quotes like the one above that I will remember long after the memory of Cam’s whispered words fade.

    What about you?

Have you read WAIT FOR YOU? If so, what is your favorite quote and why?

Or if you haven’t, what types of quotes or passages are the most memorable for you in New Adult contemporary romance novels? Are they the quotes that make you sigh? Are they quotes that have a little heat?

Or, like me, are they those random quotes that just make you smile?

    Description…

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

    Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…
