Description…

The magic and suspense of Graceling meet the political intrigue and unrest of Game of Thrones in this riveting fantasy debut.

Your greatest enemy isn’t what you fight, but what you fear.

Elizabeth Grey is one of the king’s best witch hunters, devoted to rooting out witchcraft and doling out justice. But when she’s accused of being a witch herself, Elizabeth is arrested and sentenced to burn at the stake.

Salvation comes from a man she thought was her enemy. Nicholas Perevil, the most powerful and dangerous wizard in the kingdom, offers her a deal: he will save her from execution if she can break the deadly curse that’s been laid upon him.

But Nicholas and his followers know nothing of Elizabeth’s witch hunting past–if they find out, the stake will be the least of her worries. And as she’s thrust into the magical world of witches, ghosts, pirates, and one all-too-handsome healer, Elizabeth is forced to redefine her ideas of right and wrong, of friends and enemies, and of love and hate.

Virginia Boecker weaves a riveting tale of magic, betrayal, and sacrifice in this unforgettable fantasy debut.

The Review

Virginia Boecker’s THE WITCH HUNTER is an instantly captivating, action-packed, and immensely entertaining read with a lightning fast pace, an incredibly likable main character, light and dark magic, secrets, lies, deception, betrayal, a number of twists and turns, a touch of romance, and plenty of humor to keep readers enchanted, fascinated, riveted.

Elizabeth Grey never thought the day would come that she’d be helping the enemy. She loved being a witch hunter. She believed in what she did. She was good at what she did. But when she was accused of being a witch and sentenced to death, she realized that her survival was much more important to her than taking down her enemy.

And when her quest to find a cure for the most powerful wizard in Anglia, and leader of the Reformists, reveals that what she’d always believed to be true may not be true and that those she trusted might not have been worthy of her trust, she’ll have to find a way to get the answers she needs if she ever hopes to do what’s right.

THE WITCH HUNTER is a suspense-filled story that promises to keep readers on edge. With a number of characters whose motives are questionable, the price for failure so very high, the threats to Elizabeth mounting, and her secrets becoming harder to keep, it is a complete nail-biter of a read.

Author Virginia Boecker mixes things up a bit with her story, creating an interesting and different and thoroughly engaging read. Set in the 1500s, the author managed to make the story feel modern through her characters’ dialogue. She turned her heroine from hunter to the hunted. She added a number of different paranormal beings and elements to expand her world beyond that of just witches and wizards. And she introduced myth and legend to her tale.

This is an amazing start to a series that is sure to be filled with even more deadly battles and dangerous foes. With epic adventures. With heartbreak and romance. With shocks and surprises. It’s a must read story that will grab hold, take readers on a wild ride, and leave them anxious to find out what comes next.
