AN EMBER IN THE ASHES Blog Tour: ‘Would You Rather?’ Guest Post + Giveaway

I am so unbelievably excited to be a part of the AN EMBER IN THE ASHES Blog Tour and to have been able to ask the very, very amazing and talented Sabaa Tahir a few “Would You Rather?” questions for my stop today. I love her answers – especially the ones involving her characters and her book – and I am so happy I finally get to share them.

I am also super excited that AN EMBER IN THE ASHES releases in less than a week – yes, it’s finally, finally, finally, almost here. And I can’t wait until everyone reads it and falls as madly in love with it as I did. It is EPIC. And AWESOME. It’s a story you don’t want ever to end. It’s a world you’ll never want to leave, even if it is dangerous for just about everyone who is a part of it. And Laia and Elias are two characters you’ll love getting to know.

If you haven’t yet pre-ordered your copy so that it lands in your mailbox as close to release date as possible, there’s still time! There are a few links below for places you can pre-order your copy online. And if you want to see where else you can purchase a copy, be sure to visit the AN EMBER IN THE ASHES website – which also has a ton of information about the book and its author.

As you may have already guessed, I love this book. It is one of my all-time favorite high fantasy novels. I couldn’t devour it fast enough. And with every switch between Laia and Elais’s POV I was both thrilled to be back with the character I’d been missing for the one chapter and eager to get back to the character I just left.

Yeah… it’s just that amazing and brilliant and riveting and stunning… and so, so, so very epic. The pre-release buzz for this book is well-deserved and doesn’t even begin to do this story justice.

So while I can’t make release day come any faster, I can offer up a copy of the book for giveaway so that one reader will have a copy of AN EMBER IN THE ASHES headed their way after its release next week.

This tour runs for four weeks and has some awesome posts – posts I can’t wait to check out – scheduled. So if you’d like to visit all the stops, scroll down to the bottom of the post for the schedule which will be updated daily with direct links to each stop. This is an epic tour for an epic book and you won’t want to miss a single one!

Set in a terrifyingly brutal Rome-like world, An Ember in the Ashes is an epic fantasy debut about an orphan fighting for her family and a soldier fighting for his freedom. It’s a story that’s literally burning to be told.

LAIA is a Scholar living under the iron-fisted rule of the Martial Empire. When her brother is arrested for treason, Laia goes undercover as a slave at the empire’s greatest military academy in exchange for assistance from rebel Scholars who claim that they will help to save her brother from execution.

ELIAS is the academy’s finest soldier— and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias is considering deserting the military, but before he can, he’s ordered to participate in a ruthless contest to choose the next Martial emperor.

When Laia and Elias’s paths cross at the academy, they find that their destinies are more intertwined than either could have imagined and that their choices will change the future of the empire itself.

The Guest Post

‘Would You Rather?’ with Sabaa Tahir

Would you rather write a series or a standalone?

  • A series. More story that way.

Would you rather write on a Mac, PC or by hand?

  • A Mac. I can’t live without mine. *clutches Mac*

Would you rather write during the day or at night?

  • At night.

Would you rather write in first-, second- or third-person narrative?

  • First person.

Would you rather write for a female or male POV?

  • I love both. If forced to pick, probably male. More challenging for me.

Would you rather read a hardcover, paperback, audio or eBook?

  • Hardcover, always.

Would you rather read fiction or non-fiction?

  • Fiction.

Would you rather be under the rule of the Martial Empire or have a role in the Martial Empire?

  • I’d rather have a role in the Empire, which I could then use to, you know, sow revolution.

Would you rather live in Laia and Elias’s world – the world that you created – or in the world you live in – the real world?

  • I like the real world.

Would you rather be Laia, Elias, Helene or The Commandant?

  • I’d rather be Elias.

Would you rather meet Laia, Elias, Helene or The Commandant?

  • I’d love to meet Laia.

Would you rather leave readers on the edge of a cliff or give them a story that is all wrapped up?

  • I like stories where the character arcs are wrapped up, but there’s still a hook for more story.

Would you rather give readers the unexpected or give them what they expect?

  • The unexpected.

Would you rather give readers a heroine who is fierce or one who becomes so as the story progresses?

  • Someone who becomes so as the story progresses.

Would you rather give readers a love story that is immediate and intense or one with a slow burn that eventually becomes an inferno?

  • I think both have their charms, but if forced to pick, slow burn.
