FINDING MR. BRIGHTSIDE Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway

FindingMrBrightside BlogTourBanner

I am so excited to be a stop on the FINDING MR. BRIGHTSIDE Blog Tour. I was immediately drawn to this book by its title and cover, but it was the description that reeled me in – the tone totally set the mood for the story.

I loved meeting and getting to know Abram and Juliette. The way they were introduced, their voices, the way they fell in love, all made for a fun, interesting and totally engaging read.

My stop today is a review stop, so I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the book. But there is also a fab giveaway for a copy of FINDING MR. BRIGHTSIDE thanks to the publisher. Just scroll down to the Rafflecopter to enter.

If you’d like to check out the other stops on tour – head over to Mac Teen Books’ website for the schedule.

Sharing the same subdivision is uncomfortable, to say the least. They don’t speak.

Fast-forward to the neighborhood pharmacy, a year later. Abram decides to say hello. Then he decides to invite Juliette to Taco Bell.

The Review

FINDING MR. BRIGHTSIDE is different and quriky and sad and sweet with a not-in-the-least-bit convential love story and interesting and flawed and more than a little self-destructive main characters who readers will be hoping get a happily ever after ending.

Abram and Juliette have each had to cope with losing a parent. They each had to accept the fact that their parent let them down spectacularly. And they each chose to rely on prescription medications to help them get by. But that’s where their similarities end.

Where Abram is easygoing, Juliette is pricky, demanding, difficult. Where Abram’s mom seems to have gotten over her husband’s infidelity and moved on from his death, Juliette’s dad is still in mourning for all that he lost. Where Abram seems like he’ll eventually get it together, Juliette seems on the verge of losing it completely. They never should have worked. And yet they did.

Author Jay Clark took a chance when introducing readers to Abram and Juliette, his chemically dependent, not always likable, sometimes relatable, but other times off-the-wall characters. Their quirks, their behaviors, their personalities make them not the easiest to connect with or understand. But his gamble paid off. He made them work as a couple. He made them a complement to one another. He made them appealing and engaging. Flaws and all.

Abram is clever and charming and adorable. Juliette is sympathetic and snarky and funny. He made them better together than they ever were apart.

FINDING MR. BRIGHTSIDE is an unexpected surprise of a read. It’s more than just a love story. It delves deeper. It touches on issues of infidelity, loss, addiction. It shows the importance of healthy relationships and how much of a difference they can make. And it reveals how one person’s actions can have a ripple effect.

Told from the perspectives of two hurting, lost, broken, peculiar, but immensely entertaining characters, this story, full of ups and downs, setbacks, and heartache, is a must for readers looking for something more than just romance, for characters who don’t fit into the typical YA mold, and for a story that will make them think.
