Mysterious. Magnificent. Creepy. Welcome to Rockford Manor.
“There’s something hidden in the Maze.” Seventeen-year-old Imogen has never forgotten the last words her father said to her seven years ago, before the blazing fire that consumed him, her mother, and the gardens of her family’s English country manor.
Haunted by her parents’ deaths, Imogen moves to New York City with her new guardians. But when a letter arrives with the news of her cousin’s untimely death, revealing that Imogen is now the only heir left to run the estate, she returns to England and warily accepts her role as duchess.
All is not as it seems at Rockford, and Imogen quickly learns that dark secrets lurk behind the mansion’s aristocratic exterior, hinting that the spate of deaths in her family were no accident. And at the center of the mystery is Imogen herself–and Sebastian, the childhood friend she has secretly loved for years. Just what has Imogen walked into?
Combining a fresh twist on the classic REBECCA with a spine-tingling mystery and powerful romance, SUSPICION is an action-packed thrill ride.
Alexandra Monir’s SUSPICION is more than just a gorgeous cover. Beautiful, wonderfully descriptive writing, a captivating mystery that delivers a few twists, turns and surprises to keep readers guessing, and a touch of the paranormal to add intrigue make this story an incredibly engaging page-turner.
Told in three parts, readers will be introduced to Imogen Rockford, learn of the tragedy that befell her at a young age, discover her family’s dark history, explore Rockford Manor, its gardens and maze, meet the characters whose motives and intentions are suspect, and uncover the secrets that could pose an even greater threat to Imogen, the new Duchess of Wickersham.
The prologue immediately grabs with the promise that not everyone will have a happily ever after. It piques curiosity and invites readers to step back in time in Imogen’s life to the events that set things in motion. It sets the stage for an eerie and suspense-filled tale.
The author did a fantastic job of creating a lush and idyllic yet haunting setting to serve as backdrop for her story. She constructed a fascinating and detailed history for the Rockford family. She added a number of elements throughout to create doubt, cast suspicion, build tension. And she brought to life a heroine that is likable and relatable with much more to her than meets the eye.
The light romance wasn’t this story’s strong point and felt a bit rushed in its development. But as it wasn’t a focal point, it didn’t take away from the read. The story’s paranormal aspects were some of its more interesting ones and a longer look would have been welcome. But the way they were incorporated gave this story that extra layer that made it stand out.
SUSPICION blends mystery with the supernatural in a story that is spellbinding, thrilling and throughly entertaining. And with a quick pace, a cast of both appealing and disturbing characters, moments that are dark and chilling, others that are enchanting, others that are shocking, and still others that are heartbreaking, Alexandra Monir’s latest novel is a fabulous addition to the genre.

ABOUT AUTUMN LEAVES
Alexandra is an accomplished recording artist as well as a writer (Timeless and Timekeeper) and always releases a new song that ties into her books. The song she recorded for Suspicion has special significance, and here’s why:
While she was writing Suspicion, she discovered the song “Autumn Leaves,” which is the English translation by Johnny Mercer of the French classic, “Les Feuilles Mortes.” She loved it so that she featured it in a love scene in Chapter 12. She found out much later that “Autumn Leaves” is the same song that her late grandmother – the prominent Iranian opera singer Monir Vakili – used to sing all the time. A very happy coincidence!
USA Today’s Happy Ever After blog just revealed her new song. To learn more about it click HERE or listen below.
