Title & Series: FORESWORN (Sisters of Fate #3)
Author: Rinda Elliott
Release date: December 2, 2014
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
It is written that three Sisters of Fate have the power to change the world’s destiny.
But only if they survive…
Kat Lockwood grew up listening to her unhinged mother’s stories about the Norse goddess souls she and her triplet sisters carry, about fiery deaths and a prophecy foretelling the world’s end. Now, to save that world, Kat must find a guy who hosts the soul of a Norse god–a warrior with the lightest blond hair and the darkest brown eyes.
But at a truck stop on her road trip, Kat freezes time while she writes out a cryptic message in runes. The only other person able to see this happen? A gorgeous guy with the lightest blond hair and the darkest brown eyes.
Kat’s not convinced peaceful Arun is the future warrior who will turn the tide in the final battle. Yet, Arun turns out to be a lot tougher than he seems. As soul-carrying teens and underworld creatures gather over the world’s deadliest volcano, Kat finds that no one, including her sisters and mother, is exactly who she thought they were….
Sisters of Fate
The prophecy doesn’t lie: one is doomed to die.
Note: The review is based on an eARC received from the author in exchange for my honest thoughts about the book.
Saying goodbye to a series is always hard. Especially when the stories are epic, the heroines are fierce, the heroes are swoon-worthy and the world is one you don’t want to leave. But when the final book in the series is as riveting, nail-biting, action-filled and all-consuming as FORESWORN, then it’s a series you won’t want to wait until “later” to finish.
This final book in the trilogy introduces readers to Kat Lockwood, the most guarded and cautious yet temperamental of the three sisters, and Arun, her modern-day warrior whose Norse god has a rather eyebrow-raising ability. It brings the sisters back together. It builds to the highly anticipated climactic finish. And it answers the question of whether the prophecy comes to pass.
The trickster is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the things that Kat, her sisters, and all those who contain the soul of a Norse god must face. Giants, elves, pandemonium, a looming battle, a betrayal and a sacrifice are just a sampling of what’s in store for them as they fight to change their fates and the fate of the world.
Kat is the perfect sister to carry this series to its end. She’s protective, loyal and incredibly brave and her strength is what is needed most when everything comes to a head. Even with her bond with Arun, whose personality complements hers so well, her sisters are the most important thing in the world to her. She may not be as easy to connect with as Raven or Coral, as she isn’t as nurturing or as sweet as they are, but once a connection is made it will be a strong one.
Rinda Elliott managed to create three very distinct female main characters whose stories, while interwoven, are strong enough, engaging enough and exciting enough to stand on their own. While nearly identical in appearance, each sister has a very different personality and voice, making each book in this series a thrilling new adventure.
FORESWORN is suspenseful. Its fast pace makes it easily readable in one sitting. Its promise of romance, of deadly battles, of heartbreaking loss make it unputdownable. Its new characters, with new abilities and new challenges, make for a wildly entertaining read. It’s intense. It’s enthralling. It puts you on an emotional roller coaster. It keeps you glued to the page until the very end.
It is a must, must, must read installment in this absolutely amazing and unforgettable series that should only be devoured after the first two books.
Like In-N-Out Burger‘s infamous secret menu this one deserves my off-the-menu 6 star rating.
About Rinda Elliott
I love unusual stories and credit growing up in a family of curious life-lovers who moved all over the country. Books and movies full of fantasy, science fiction and romance kept us amused, especially in some of the stranger places. For years, I tried to separate my darker side with my humorous and romantic one. I published short fiction, but things really started happening when I gave in and mixed it up. When not lost in fiction, I love making wine, collecting music, gaming and spending time with my husband and two children.
I’m represented by Miriam Kriss of the Irene Goodman Agency.
Right now, I have an urban fantasy series out with Samhain Publishing (Beri O’Dell series) and a Norse paranormal romance trilogy out with Harlequin Teen (Sisters of Fate) and hopefully, I’ll have more news soon.
