It’s the final week of THE PERFECTIONISTS Read-Along and I’m so glad I had the chance to participate along with Me, My Shelf and I, Fictitious Delicious, Novel Novice and Good Choice Reading. Even though I was tempted every single week to read ahead and find out what was going to happen.
If this is the first you’re hearing about this four-week read-along, feel free to check out each of my previous weeks’ posts to find out what I thought about the book:
- October 7th: Prologue + Chapters 1-9
- October 14th: Chapters 10-18
- October 21st: Chapters 19-27
- October 28th (today): Chapters 28-36/”The End”
And if you’d like to know what the other participants thought (and for additional chances to win an awesome giveaway prize) be sure to visit each of the blogs linked above.
To be a part of the discussion or spread the news about the read-along and giveaway, be sure to use the hashtag #PerfectRead.
Next week, on the morning of November 6th, there will be a Twitter Chat with Author Sara Shepard where she’ll be chatting with all the hosts and YOU! Follow the #PerfectRead hashtag to participate. The time is still TBD, but once I have the details I’ll include them on my sidebar.
These final chapters were awesome and I cannot wait to get the next book – THE GOOD GIRLS – which releases in June 2015. Because with the way things left off I am dying to find out the truth.
And if you’d like to know a little bit more about what I thought of this book’s final chapters, just scroll down below the bookish details for a somewhat non-spoiler-y recap.
About The Perfectionists
From the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling series Pretty Little Liars comes a thrilling new novel about five perfect girls who are framed for a murder they didn’t commit.
In Beacon Heights, Washington, five girls—Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker—know that you don’t have to be good to be perfect. At first the girls think they have nothing in common, until they realize that they all hate Nolan Hotchkiss, who’s done terrible things to each of them. They come up with the perfect way to kill him—a hypothetical murder, of course. It’s just a joke…until Nolan turns up dead, in exactly the way they planned. Only, they didn’t do it. And unless they find the real killer, their perfect lives will come crashing down around them.
From Sara Shepard, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, comes another story of dark secrets, shocking twists, and what happens when five beautiful girls will do anything to hide the ugly truth.
About Sara Shepard
For as long as she can remember, Sara Shepard has been writing. However, when she was young she also wanted to be a soap opera star, a designer for LEGO, a filmmaker, a claymation artist, a geneticist, and a fashion magazine editor when she grew up. She and her sister have been creating joint artistic and written projects for years, except they’re pretty sure they’re the only ones who find them funny.
She got her MFA at Brooklyn College and now lives outside Philadelphia, PA with her husband and dogs. Her first adult novel is called The Visibles/ All The Things We Didn’t Say.
Sara’s bestselling young adult series, Pretty Little Liars, is loosely based on her experiences growing up on Philadelphia’s Main Line…although luckily she never had any serious stalkers. The series has also inspired the ABC Family television series of the same name.
My Thoughts on Chapters 28-36
I knew that I would be devouring this week’s chapters immediately after last week’s post went live. I couldn’t wait to see how everything ended, even though I knew that much was going to be left open for the next book. And I wasn’t wrong.
These final nine chapters were about as short as those last week, but were packed full of all kinds of shocks and surprises. And that ending has left me questioning everything I thought I knew.
A dirty secret is revealed about one of the girls by someone hell-bent on her destruction. The police take their investigation to a whole new level based on “evidence” they have against another girl. One of the girls makes a decision about her relationship that seriously complicates things and could affect her future. One discovers that getting rid of her nemesis won’t be as easy as she thought it would be. And one finds out that the person she thought she could trust is instead someone she should fear.
As the risk of being discovered for their part in Nolan’s death grows, the girls decide to take matters into their own hands and search for the evidence they need against their suspect. But their attempt to find proof doesn’t end in the way they hoped it would, leaving them in even more trouble than before.
The story ends with even more questions than at the start, with even more suspects, even more enemies, even more complications than there were when Nolan Hotchkiss was alive. And it leaves things open for an equally exciting, must read sequel. A sequel that I will definitely be reading in one sitting versus over the course of four weeks.
Thanks for stopping by to check out what I thought about THE PERFECTIONISTS. If you’ve read it – or are planning to read it – I hope you love it as much as I do. And I hope the wait for the sequel won’t be as torturous as I know it will be for me.
ONE Winner will receive THE PERFECTIONISTS tote bag and goodies + one surprise ARC of an upcoming Harper release
