About The Perfectionists
Title: THE PERFECTIONISTS
Author: Sara Shepard
Release date: October 7, 2014
Formats: Hardcover, audio, eBook
From the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling series Pretty Little Liars comes a thrilling new novel about five perfect girls who are framed for a murder they didn’t commit.
In Beacon Heights, Washington, five girls—Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker—know that you don’t have to be good to be perfect. At first the girls think they have nothing in common, until they realize that they all hate Nolan Hotchkiss, who’s done terrible things to each of them. They come up with the perfect way to kill him—a hypothetical murder, of course. It’s just a joke…until Nolan turns up dead, in exactly the way they planned. Only, they didn’t do it. And unless they find the real killer, their perfect lives will come crashing down around them.
From Sara Shepard, author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Pretty Little Liars series, comes another story of dark secrets, shocking twists, and what happens when five beautiful girls will do anything to hide the ugly truth.
About Sara Shepard
For as long as she can remember, Sara Shepard has been writing. However, when she was young she also wanted to be a soap opera star, a designer for LEGO, a filmmaker, a claymation artist, a geneticist, and a fashion magazine editor when she grew up. She and her sister have been creating joint artistic and written projects for years, except they’re pretty sure they’re the only ones who find them funny.
She got her MFA at Brooklyn College and now lives outside Philadelphia, PA with her husband and dogs. Her first adult novel is called The Visibles/ All The Things We Didn’t Say.
Sara’s bestselling young adult series, Pretty Little Liars, is loosely based on her experiences growing up on Philadelphia’s Main Line…although luckily she never had any serious stalkers. The series has also inspired the ABC Family television series of the same name.
My Thoughts on Chapters 10-18
I thought the first nine chapters were a quick read, but they were nothing compared to how fast I managed to blaze through this week’s chapters.
We learn more about Julie’s shameful secret. We get a peek into Parker’s less than stellar life. We discover that a certain character, who has appeared to be less than honest, has in fact been telling lies and is the very opposite of a friend.
And we find out that there is a total creeper at Beacon Heights High.
The girls find a potential suspect, though it’s not who the police have in their sights. And with some new information revealed to them about the cause of Nolan’s death, they’ll have to find proof to back up their suspicions.
So far, THE PERFECTIONISTS is an insanely good and wildly entertaining read. I adore each of the characters whose POVs we get to see and I love learning more about them as the story unfolds. Though I don’t quite trust these narrators fully. Everyone has a motive, including Julie, Ava, Mackenzie, Parker and Caitlin. And they all have a totally legit reason to have taken that next step from prank to murder.
But then it seems that everyone in Beacon Hills has reason to want Nolan Hotchkiss dead.
I am officially addicted to and totally invested in Sara Shepard’s newest novel. And setting it down in order to share my thoughts for this week’s post and in order not to read ahead is torturous. The eighty-four pages for this week’s read is not nearly enough time to spend with this story and these characters. I have a feeling I may end up caving mid-week and getting a jump on next week’s read.
I don’t know what’s in store for the girls, whether their sleuthing will get them in more trouble than they’re already in, whether the police will find something that definitively leads back to them, whether a new suspect will come to light, whether they’ll all start to turn on one another in the next nine chapters.
But I cannot wait to find out.
Until next Tuesday….
