THIS SUMMER Blog Tour: ‘Favorite Scene’ Guest Post, Review + Giveaway

This-Summer-Tour-Banner (1)

I am so excited to be one of today’s final stops on the THIS SUMMER Blog Tour in which I have an awesome guest post by Author Katlyn Duncan on her favorite scene to write and where I share a few of my thoughts about the book.

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this book with its super cute cover and its promise of romance. It sounded like the perfect summer read. And if you’d like to get just a peek at what this book has to offer, be sure to check out the guest post below to read a short passage.

The author picked the lake scene as her favorite to write and while I adore that scene, my favorite involved a party, rain, a wet t-shirt and a locked door. Beyond that I’ll say no more.

In addition to some awesome guest posts, interviews and reviews – which you can find by clicking the links in the tour schedule at the bottom of this post – this tour includes a giveaway for an Amazon eGift Card. If you’d like to enter for a chance to win, just follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter.

Some information about the book and author are also included, along with the places you can find them online. So if you haven’t yet heard of THIS SUMMER or “met” Katlyn Duncan, just follow the links to learn more.

And if you’d like to hear just a little bit about what I thought about THIS SUMMER, my bookish thoughts are are also below.

Before college, before responsibilities, Hadley Beauman and best friend Lily are determined to have a summer to remember. There will be all the usual dramas – ex-boyfriends who don’t seem to know what ‘ex’ means, pesky younger brothers with unrequited crushes, but what Hadley didn’t anticipate was the out-of-the-blue return of the seriously hot boy-next-door, Will Carson. The boy who broke her heart when he skipped town two years ago.

Will may have shot up a foot and filled out (oh yes), but inside he carries the weight of guilt – for leaving, for coming back… Now he’s just passing through to tie up loose ends but it’s clear the old chemistry still crackles between him and Hadley. Trouble is, it’s built on two years of lies…

This summer might just be the best time of their lives, but is Hadley ready for everything to change – again?

Favorite Scene to Write in THIS SUMMER

My favorite scene to write from THIS SUMMER is the lake scene. I am not going to spoil it for anyone so I will be quite vague, but this scene took me a while to navigate because I wanted to get it just right.

At this point Will and Hadley have been dancing around their chemistry and when they are taken away from their hometown they are given a chance to breathe and the sparks crackle. Neither are able to deny their attraction to the other (especially with bathing suits involved!) and this is their final tipping point. It’s a question of “will they?” or “won’t they?” and I really enjoyed the push and pull of this scene in particular.

I was able to visualize the scene playing out as if on a movie screen right in front of me, which is something I look for in every scene. But this one in particular sticks out to me. Will is a bit more playful and the flirty banter between the two was really fun to write. It shows the reader a bit more of how they used to act with each other prior to that fateful summer.

And my hope for the end of the scene is to have the reader on the edge of his or her seat wondering what’s going to happen next!

Here is a little taste:

“Well you can’t come into the water and expect not to get wet,” he says in a low voice.

“And here I thought you were a Southern gentleman.”

He inhales sharply, wading his body around mine. “It seems you have the wrong impression of me. I’m not as nice as I seem.”

I roll my eyes. “You might think you’re a rugged cowboy, but I still see you underneath the surface.”

“Do you now?” His hand brushes across my arm.

“Yup,” I say quickly, my breath catching in my throat.

“I might have to work on my rugged cowboy persona a little more then?”

I inhale sharply. “Well, I do like the accent.”

Our bodies brush up against each other again as he swims around to my front. “Is that all?”

“That’s pretty much it,” I say with a grin.

“When did you become so superficial?” he teases.

“Oh come on. We both know how gorgeous you are.”

“And here I thought I was a rugged cowboy. Gorgeous is reserved for those of the female persuasion.”

His hand breaks the surface and brushes against my cheek.

My breath hitches and I’m frozen in place. His eyes move over my lips, up my nose and finally reach my eyes. Neither of us breathe. His other hand reaches out to my hand, the touch scorching me.

“Hadley.” My name on his lips is filled with the same want and need that’s inside of me.

About Katlyn Duncan

Katlyn_Duncan-2Katlyn Duncan was born and raised in a small town in western Massachusetts. Her overactive imagination involved invisible friends, wanting to be a Disney Princess and making up her own stories. Her bibliophile mom always encouraged her love of reading and that stayed with her since. Katlyn now lives in southern Connecticut with her husband and adorable Wheaten Terrier and she is thrilled to finally share her stories with the world.

My Thoughts

THIS SUMMER is a light, fun and sweet romance with a dash of heat. It’s a love story that reignites a spark that had only just begun to burn between Hadley and Will before his sudden departure from Hadley’s life. Told from both Hadley and Will’s perspectives, readers will get to see just what Will’s secrets are, whether Hadley has the “summer to remember” she wanted, and whether they’re both looking for a summer fling or hoping for something more.

When Will left two years ago, with no explanation and no calls, texts or emails since, Hadley was nearly destroyed. And just when she thought she’d picked up the pieces of her shattered self, as suddenly as he left he comes back into her life threatening to tear her apart all over again.

But she’s not the same girl he left behind. She’s not about to let her heart get broken again. She planned on having an amazing summer, creating memories to last a lifetime. And it’s still what she intends to do, no matter how good he looks, how easy it is to reconnect with him or how electric that connection is.

THIS SUMMER was a super quick and delightful read that made me smile. I enjoyed the dual POVs as it gave me insight into both characters about their pasts together and separately, their presents, and what they thought and felt about one another. I loved that the author used the camp setting as the backdrop to her story as it made it a little different, made it feel very much like a summer romance, and provided another connection between the characters’ presents and their pasts. And I adored the romance. It was charming and a little bit sexy and a little bit heartbreaking.

All the major loose ends are tied up at the end of the story, though I was left with a few questions about some of the secondary characters and wished a few pages were dedicated to fleshing out their stories. But Will and Hadley’s story ended on just the right note… what that note is, I won’t reveal.

For readers looking for an engaging, lightning fast and heartwarming love story, THIS SUMMER is a wonderful way to spend a few hours.
