EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

I am totally thrilled to be today’s stop on the EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU Blog Tour with a guest post by the author on her novel’s cover. I am currently reading and seriously loving this absolutely gorgeous story with its incredibly beautiful cover. And I think the cover is the perfect fit for this story.

I am very picky about book covers, from the color palette, to the fonts, to the images, to the balance, to the scale. A cover can completely sell me on a book before I’ve ever read its description and it can turn me off so completely I won’t read what might be a pretty fantastic book.

From the moment I saw the cover for EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU I love, love, loved it. I wanted to know this story. I wanted to know more about this girl and the city in the background. I wanted to know what this title meant to this character’s story.

The colors are soft and feminine and pretty. I absolutely love the creative way the fonts are laid out, as if they, too, are leading to someone… or somewhere, or something. The font is whimsical, but it’s so well balanced that it doesn’t overpower the images.

It’s a cover that makes me not only want to read this book, but to stare at it during those moments when the book is closed.

But that’s what I think. If you’d like to know what Author Nina LaCour thinks about her book’s cover, she shares her thoughts below.

And if you’d like the chance to win a copy of this fantastic book with it’s stunning cover, enter in Rafflecopter a bit further down in this post.

So you can check out the other stops on tour, I’ve included the schedule at the end of this post which I’ll be updating with the new stops each day.

Nina LaCour gives the inside scoop on the cover of EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU

I love the cover of Everything Leads to You so much, and I’ve been excited to see the overwhelmingly positive feedback about it that’s been going around. Theresa Evangelista at Penguin Young Readers designed it. She also designed the hardcover editions of my first two novels and the paperback edition of Hold Still.

The cover journey took us in quite a few different directions. After all, the novel is about visual imagery. The narrator’s job is to create sets, and she’s constantly looking at things, noticing what many people wouldn’t. Hollywood, too, is rich with iconography.

One of the major images in the novel is a green sofa that Emi searches for to complement a set she’s designing. I don’t want to give too much away, but the sofa ends up being important to her journey. Many of the initial covers used a green couch as the main image, and though I liked that it was true to the book, I felt strongly that this novel should have a romantic cover, and also one that evoked Los Angeles. I couldn’t have been more pleased when I saw what Theresa ultimately came up with. I love the lettering and the photograph and the cityscape, the fading of the colors and the subtle details . . .. This cover matches the feeling of the book perfectly.
