From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever.

Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.

My Thoughts

Whether you’ve met Isla and Josh before or this will be your very first introduction, they will be characters you’ll instantly reconnect or connect with and completely fall in love with.

The writing in this short five chapter sneak peek is some of Author Stephanie Perkins’ best. There is a wonderful cadence and the dialogue is sweet and funny and awkward which makes Isla absolutely endearing. Right from the start.

This short peek at ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER was my very first time experiencing Stephanie Perkins’ writing. And it was perfect. It hit every one of my must haves. A start that instantly grabs. Writing that’s clever and funny and sweet. Characters I can connect with, root for, become invested in. A story that makes me not want to put it down.

And I didn’t want to. At all. I might have screamed when I reached the end, because I had become so caught up in the story that I didn’t notice it was coming to the end. Waiting until August 14th is going to be killer. Especially due to the fact that the point where the story left off is like a mini cliffhanger. Yes, the end of chapter five is guaranteed to make the wait absolutely torturous.

In just these five chapters I fell head-over-heels in love with the writing and the characters. From the very first I was hooked by both. So much so that as soon as I finished I grabbed my copy of ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS and devoured it in one sitting and I am currently reading LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR.

While I wouldn’t normally rate only five chapters of a book, I couldn’t imagine not giving this story at least an “amazing” rating. I’ll await my read of the full-length novel, however, to see if it is an “off-the-menu” six-star read. I have a feeling it will be.

Reviewer gives this sneak peek…

And for just a tease. It’s writing like this that made me fall in love.

I can’t imagine Josh falling for someone vanilla.

Not that Josh would ever fall for me.

But I wouldn’t want to ruin any chance.

Even though I don’t have a chance.

But just in case I do.

Even though I don’t.
