Kayla of The Thousand Lives
I am very excited to welcome Kayla of The Thousand Lives to the blog this week for “Playing 20 Questions with…”
Kayla has an awesome blog – and not just because of the nautical rating system. So be sure to check it out!
Once again I’ve kept the questions book-related, but I have mixed them up a bit. Though I have to confess I just had to keep the question in about favorite covers because I am always just so curious about which covers are bloggers’ favorites. And I love the three covers Kayla chose and that she couldn’t just choose one.
Anyway… if you haven’t a clue about what this feature is about it’s pretty simple…
Instead of being a traditional Q&A or Interview with in-depth questions and wordy answers, the goal of “Playing 20 Questions with…” is the opposite. They will all be quickie – and hopefully fun – questions, and I’m limiting answers to 15 words or less.
So, with that in mind, if you’d like to get to know Kayla, learn which books she most enjoyed reading this year, who her blogger BFFs are, and more, just keep reading below.
Now, without any further ado…
The 20 Questions
1. Favorite blogging moment?
When I decided to enjoy blogging for the fun of it, and not for stats. I’ve never loved blogging more!
2. Favorite post comment in 2014?
Probably when Chiara and I discussed whether my ability to bend over and put my palms on the floor makes me an alien or not.
3. Favorite type of blog post to read?
Either discussions or personal posts – it’s the best way to learn more about other bloggers.
4. Favorite 2014 post on your blog?
Probably my longer-than-my-college-essays post about Ignite Me and the resolution of the love triangle. I had A LOT to say apparently!
You can read it HERE.
5. Favorite place to read?
I have an L-shaped couch, so right in the point of the L (very easy to make a blanket cocoon.)
6. Favorite time of day to read?
At night, after everyone’s gone to bed (so I can cry alone!)
7. Favorite read of 2014 (must be a 2014 release)?
8. Favorite book cover (must be a 2014 release)?
Already released – IGNITE ME!
To be released – PLUS ONE by Elizabeth Fama (STUNNING.)
Or THE PERILOUS SEA by Sherry Thomas (hello – water dragon. There is nothing better.)
9. Favorite book you received for review (mail/eGalley) in 2014?
ME SINCE YOU by Laura Wiess
10. Most unexpected read of 2014 (good or bad) and why?
FANGIRL by Rainbow Rowell. I knew I’d enjoy it, but I wasn’t expecting to find a new favorite!
11. Favorite book quote/short passage of 2014?
I have an entire collection of quotes from IGNITE ME, but my favorite is:
“No gun, no sword, no army or king will ever be more powerful than a sentence.”
And I’m going to break the rules here, but here’s another:
“You could rattle the stars. You could do anything, if only you dared.”
…from THRONE OF GLASS (read in 2014!) I’m actually thinking of getting it as a tattoo. 😉
12. Name one new blog/blogger you met/discovered in 2014?
Not really met, per se, since we’ve been mutual follows for a while, but Miranda from Tempest Books and I have gotten pretty close this year. 🙂
13. Favorite non-blogging, but book-related moment of 2014?
Buying my ticket for the LA Book Festival in April!
14. Favorite genre of book to read?
High fantasy and science fiction, mostly YA.
15. Favorite format of book (print, audio, eBook)?
Print for sure, and hardback if possible. Kindle screens hurt my eyes.
Read about it HERE.
16. Favorite book to film?
CATCHING FIRE – I was only missing the scene where Katniss asks Finnick how it feels to be ugly after the fog attack (my babies <3).
17. Favorite 2014 review you’ve written?
18. Favorite bookish event you’ve attended (signing, convention, conference)?
My first ever and favorite author event was with Leigh Bardugo, Jessica Brody, Gennifer Albin, and Ann Aguirre. Those ladies are HILARIOUS together!
19. Blogger BFF?
20. What is your favorite kind of post to write on your blog?
Probably my weekly updates; I do the stacking the shelves meme, and then ramble about whatever is going on in life or what I’m excited about in the coming weeks. It’s really relaxed, and gives me a chance to have more personal conversations with others.
Thank you so much Kayla for participating in my feature this week. I love all your answers! Attending an event with four amazing authors – Leigh Bardugo, Jessica Brody, Gennifer Albin and Ann Aguirre – just had to be awesome. And I can’t wait to hear about the LA Book Festival. I’m hoping to go next year.
I really have to read FANGIRL, it seems everyone thinks it’s amazing. Am definitely going to move that up in the pile.
And so sorry about your eReader issues. The older Kindle models are harder to read than the new ones for sure. I read on my phone with the Kindle App, and that does make my eyes hurt, too. Hopefully you get more print books than eBooks to read!
Now I’m off to check out your blogger BFFs blogs. Until next week-ish.
