The Immortal Circus Final Act Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

I am so excited to be a part of THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS: FINAL ACT Blog Tour on its release date! I love, love, love this series and I’m thrilled and totally nervous to take this weekly journey through the FINAL ACT.

After everything that happened – and a LOT happened – in ACT TWO, I was already anxious about what was in store for Vivienne in this final installment. Now, after reading Alex’s guest post for my stop, I am crazy nervous – and so totally curious – about what will happen and how this will all come to a close.

If you haven’t yet embarked upon the wild ride that is the Cirque des Immortels series then you might not want to read the guest post too closely as there are some vague spoilers for the second book in the series. But if you have, then you’ll definitely want to read it to see just what the author hints at as regards Vivienne, and choices… and endings.

THE IMMORTAL CIRCUS: FINAL ACT is releasing in six episodes over the next six weeks and I am so very tempted to wait to start reading until five of the episodes have downloaded. But who am I kidding? I know I won’t be able to wait. I know I’ll want to find out just what happens next after that killer ending in ACT TWO. Even if it means I’ll be teased and tormented week after week.

Because this series is just that amazing it will be totally worth it.

If you’d like to learn more about all the books in this series, keep reading below and be sure to check out the other four stops on this week-long tour. There is also a tour-wide giveaway for an awesome prize pack. All the details are just a bit further below.

And if you’d like to read a short excerpt with an introduction from Mab and enter a different Prize Pack Giveaway, check out the Release Day Book Blast for a chance to win.

But now, for the final time on this blog for this series, let me present to you the very brilliant and amazing author, Alex Kahler.

The Guest Post

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for once more hosting me—it’s great to back.

One of the questions that you asked has stuck with me, and I wanted to chat about Vivienne.

The question being: If there was one character whose fate you could change, who would it be and why?

Vivienne has always been a difficult character for me. On the one hand, she’s witty and sarcastic and I love her inner dialogues. On the other, her personality is always developing and changing as new pieces of her past snap back into place. She started out as a doll, and over the course of three books, she’s become more and more of a human. (That is the word, right? Human, not monster?)

She’s also the character whose fate has given me a lot of trouble. Does she get a happy ending? How can she even have a happy ending with all the crap from her past? She’s killed. She’s lost the love of her life. She has a show to run. But she’s still walking toward a destination. She still needs a resolution.

I don’t want to give anything away, but at one point in the Final Act, Vivienne is shown a few possible futures. And each is great in its own way, but she can’t have her cake and eat it too. No matter what, she has to sacrifice something. And that something is almost always her happiness.

I feel for her. I would have loved to change the course of her life. But she was an arrow shot from Mab’s bow, and I couldn’t really change that arc if I tried. (I did try, I swear.)

At the end of the book, she makes a choice. And I know that choice will divide people—that’s honestly kind of the point. But she chose, and she lives with it, and the world is shaped accordingly.

I’m just interested to see what people would have wanted her to choose, if they were in her shoes…

About A.R. Kahler

AR Kahler

Alex is many things, but first and foremost, he’s a Sagittarius.

Born in Iowa and educated across the States, he’s taught circus in Amsterdam and Madrid, gotten madly lost in the Scottish wilderness, received his Masters in Creative Writing from Glasgow University, and drummed with Norse shamans. Sometimes he also walks about on stilts. Or sews. Or hammers tiny pieces of metal into pretty shapes.

When he’s not writing or climbing in the rafters, he’s probably drinking coffee. And seeing as he currently resides in Seattle, there’s coffee aplenty.

He is represented by Laurie McLean of Foreword Literary.

Murdered contortionists aren’t exactly what Vivienne signed up for when she ran away to join the circus. But like most things under the big top, nothing is what it seems. With a past she can’t quite remember, Vivienne finds that running away forever might not be as appealing as it once sounded—especially not when she realizes the devilishly attractive ringleader, Mab, is the Faerie Queen of legend—and that she and the rest of the troupe are locked in an age-old rivalry between the otherworldly Courts.

Aided by her friends Kingston—a feisty stage magician whose magic is quickly stealing her heart—and his smart-ass assistant, Melody, Vivienne finds herself racing against the clock to discover the culprit behind a series of deaths that should be impossible. However, the answer she seeks might reveal more about her own bloody past—and future—than she bargained for.

Vivienne is almost content with her new life in the Cirque des Immortels. She has moved up from selling cotton candy to telling fortunes, she has a gorgeous, magical boyfriend, Kingston…and no one has been murdered since the clash between the otherworldly Courts. Her life under the faerie big top would be perfect, in fact, if not for the nightmares and visions that compel her to seek and confront her half-remembered past. But for Viv, not knowing her past may well be a blessing. There’s a reason she ran away. But can she truly escape herself?

The second act of the fantastically evocative Cirque des Immortels series, The Immortal Circus: Act Two draws readers further into a world that’s at once wonderful, seductive…and deadly.
