I am totally stoked to be able to share these Character Bios from Author Sara B. Larson for the DEFY Blog Tour. I have had the chance to meet Alexa, Marcel, Prince Damian, Rylan – all of whom I adore – and a few others who are amazing and one or two who are utterly dastardly.
While not too revealing, especially the ones for Damian and Marcel, the bios perfectly describe these rather important characters. But the best way to get to know each one of them is to pick up a copy of DEFY, which released just yesterday.
It is an exciting adventure. It is a story that is filled with heartbreak and sorrow but also joy and hope. There are battles. Deadly threats. Sorcery. Trickery. Cruelty. But there is also love and loyalty. Bravery. Honor. And there are some incredibly positive messages to take away.
And yes, there is a love story. But with whom? Well, that I’ll never tell.
If I had to list one negative, it would be only that I don’t have the sequel to dive into right now. I have no idea when to start counting down to its release. And I have no clue about what to expect in DEFY‘s sequel.
While I know it’s going to be every bit as epic as this first book in the series, it’s what I don’t know that’s torturous!
Anyway… you’re not here to listen to my random ramblings about this awesome first book in a series that already promises to be amazing. You’re here to get to know ALEXA, MARCEL, DAMIAN and RYLAN just a little bit better.
And you’re here to learn more about the book and author and perhaps to enter the giveaway for a chance to win a copy.
Of course if you want to know a little bit more than what I get to reveal, and you’re not quite ready to read DEFY, be sure to stop by some – or all – of the other stops on tour.
But first, thanks to Author Sara B. Larson, let me introduce you to the characters of DEFY.
The Guest Post
Character Bios by Sara B. Larson
Her father was from Blevon, her mother was from Antion, but she is born and raised in Antion. She is tough and extremely talented at fighting. She’s stubborn and determined. But she also has a very vulnerable side that she’s had to suppress to pull off her disguise as a boy. She’s learned to lower her voice and subdue her emotions for her deception. As DEFY unfolds, Alex/Alexa struggles to reconcile the persona she’s had to adopt with who she truly is. She comes to discover the depths of her strength and courage—as her true self.
Alexa’s twin brother. They are almost identical in looks, which helps convince everyone of her disguise. He’s always giving Alexa a hard time, and he’s very competitive with her. But when it comes down to it, he’s incredibly protective of her and does everything he can to guard over her and keep her secret. He’s one of my favorite characters in DEFY.
His mother was Blevonese and his father is Dansiian (but invaded Antion with his brother Armando and made himself king of Antion). Damian acts like a spoiled-rotten royal jerk. He’s very condescending and everyone believes he’s lazy and rude and selfish. He also tends to be very sarcastic. He’s had an incredibly hard life due to his mother dying when he was young and his father’s demanding personality. Not everything is quite what meets the eye with him. He’s a very complex character.
Is full Antionese. He’s loyal and strong and fun-loving, but he also has a serious side and he’s the only guard who’s come close to beating Alexa in a sparring match. He is Alexa’s closest friend besides her brother.
Thanks for having me on the blog today, and I hope you enjoy getting to know these characters (and many more!) better in the pages of DEFY!
A lush and gorgeously written debut, packed with action, intrigue, and a thrilling love triangle.
Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king’s army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince’s guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can’t prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.
The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she’s sworn to protect?

About Sara B. Larson
Sara loves writing, reading, and dessert–but the order varies by the day. She wrote her first book in second grade about a woman who had a premature baby, complete with a “to scale” drawing of the baby’s size–while her mom was pregnant. To say she was a bit precocious is putting it lightly. Now that she’s an adult, she writes books for teens that have magic and romance and kick-butt girls (and very few premature babies).
She lives in Utah with her husband, two young sons and baby girl. She writes during naptime and the hours when most people are sleeping. Her husband claims that she should have a degree in “the art of multitasking.” On occasion you will find her hiding in a bubble bath with a book and some Swedish Fish.
She is represented by Josh Adams of Adams Literary and her YA debut DEFY is coming January ’14 from Scholastic!
