Consume Blog Tour: Savannah and Tristan Character Interviews + Giveaways

When I was selected to be a part of the tour for CONSUME, the third book in Melissa Darnell’s The Clann series, and given the opportunity to interview both Savannah and Tristan I was so excited.

The series is sweet and romantic and at times heartbreaking and a super quick read – I had no idea the books were as long as they were! The pages just flew by.

So getting the chance to ask both Savannah and Tristan a few of the questions I’d wanted answers to after having read COVET was amazing. I tried to keep them spoiler-free, but of course there were just certain events that took place toward the end of COVET, the second book in the series, that I just had to ask about.

And I also just had to ask them a few similar questions, as I was dying to know what each of their answers would be to questions about each other, favorite moments, happily ever afters….

I was not at all surprised by what Savannah had to say. I felt like I got to know her really well in the books. But I was totally surprised by a few of Tristan’s answers. And I also did not expect his answers to be as swoon-worthy as they were. Though I really should have, as he is most definitely swoon-worthy. But for those of you who already “met” him, I don’t need to tell you that.

Anyway. These were such fun interviews to conduct. And I’m so grateful to the author for allowing her characters to answer all of my questions and for the tour hosts to grant me an interview stop on the tour.

If you haven’t yet met Sav or Tristan, you’ll get to know a little bit about them from their answers. And for those who already do, you might just learn a few new things.

As this is the tour for the third book in the series, CONSUME, I thought I’d share the book’s description and places to find it online first. But the interviews follow immediately after that if you just want to get right to them.

I’ve also included some information about the author and places to find her online, as well as descriptions for the other books in the series if you’d like to learn a little bit more about these enchanting stories.

And the wonderful folks at Harlequin Teen have a number of awesome giveaways for this tour, so be sure to check the details below and enter for a chance to win.

The tour continues on Friday at Mundie Moms. But if you’d like to check out the two stops before this one, they are linked in the schedule at the bottom of this post. You can also find out more on Kismet Book Touring’s website linked in the banner above.

About the Book

CONSUME (The Clann #3)

Available August 27th

These violent delights have violent ends

And in their triumph die, like fire and powder,

Which, as they kiss, CONSUME

—William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Tristan Coleman has survived the change from Clann magic user to vampire, much to Savannah Colbert’s joy—and despair. By changing the Clann’s golden boy and newly elected leader, even to save him from death, she has unleashed a fury of hatred and fear that they cannot escape.

As the Clann and the vampire council go to war, Tristan and Sav face a new threat—a fracturing of the all-consuming bond they share. To fight for peace, they must forge a new trust and risk everything to take down their deadliest enemy, even as they must run for their lives. Soon they will learn that some bonds are stronger than love—and some battles cannot be won without sacrifice.

The Interviews

Q. For those who have not yet met you, how would you describe yourself in 15 words or less?

I’ve learned I’m different…really different…and that’s okay. 🙂

Q. How would you describe Tristan in 15 words or less?

Tristan is a guy with so much depth and heart, plus a whole lot of sexy!

Q. If you could give up all your dhampir abilities to be normal would you? And why?

Yes and no. I’d love to just be normal because then my life would be so much easier, the lives of everyone around me would be easier, and Tristan wouldn’t have ever been off limits to me. My dhampir abilities have been a curse in some ways and caused situations that brought me and my loved ones heartache and loss.

But on the other hand, my dhampir abilities have also given me a few advantages that have allowed me to save some people I love and eventually change the world in a couple of huge ways! I’ve learned to accept who and what I am, and that’s a big deal after hating my abilities for so long.

It really comes down to choice, though…I’ve finally figured out that just because I have these abilities doesn’t make them a curse or a blessing. It’s how I choose to use them and work with them that determines how my life turns out and what kind of person I am each day. (And yes, Mom, I know you’re reading this and muttering “I told you so!”. Okay, so you were right after all!)

Q. If you had to choose between being a vampire or one of the descendants, which would you choose and why?

Well, obviously being a descendant has some huge bonuses, like having some sway in your local community, plus the whole spell casting thing. But it also comes with a ton of rules and secrecy and others telling you what to do and how to live your life.

Being a vampire is both harder and easier…it’s easier because you only have a few basic rules to follow in terms of hiding your abilities and needs from the humans and you don’t have a bunch of fellow vamps judging you and telling you what to do everywhere you go. But being a vamp is harder because your needs are physical and can’t be escaped or ignored for long without some serious and potentially horrible consequences, plus you’re a constant danger to every human and descendant around you. And did I mention that whole blood memory thing? Awful, really awful.

But I still think I’d prefer being a vamp to a descendant, because at least as a vamp I can learn to adjust to my basically unchanging physical needs without all that political Clann stuff to have to deal with. Adjusting to the changing rules and political demands of the Clann as a descendant would take more constant mental effort, and I’m not the greatest at dealing with other people’s unreasonable and ever-changing demands!

Q. Tristan is gorgeous, obviously, but what is the one thing about him that made you fall in love with him?

Before we fell in love, we started off as best friends when we were little kids. He’s always been the easiest person for me to talk to (other than my mom and Nanna), and he always finds a way to make me laugh somehow even when my life seems like a nightmare. So I guess I’d have to say that it’s his personality and heart that I fell in love with, even if that’s a cliche. It’s true that he’s gorgeous, but there are lots of hot guys who can flash a great smile. Tristan’s different. Underneath the looks is a guy with so much depth and heart and really amazing courage that I can’t help but be inspired by him sometimes.

Q. What is your most favorite moment that you spent with Tristan?

This is a tough one. Through all the ups and downs and tough times, we’ve also had a lot of really great moments together, especially while dream connecting. But probably our first date would be the best because it was before I was aware of all the consequences of every moment we spent together and the danger I put him in just by kissing him.

Q. If you could change one thing that happened in your life, what would that be?

That day in the woods with Nanna.

Q. What is your happily ever after?

Finding a way to be with Tristan forever without having the vamp council and Clann chasing after us or afraid of us! And I’d really like to see my parents, each of my friends and Tristan’s sister Emily all find their own happily ever afters too (because it’s really hard to enjoy your own happily ever after if the people you love aren’t happy too!).

Q. You were forced into a tough situation – change Tristan or watch him die. Do you regret changing him? If you had it all to do over again, would you?

No, I refuse to regret that. I’ve learned the hard way that you just have to make the best decisions you can in the moment, because we can’t see the future and know ahead of time how everything will turn out. And I never could have gone on living for a literal eternity if he had died. So yes, I would absolutely do it all over again.

Q. For those who have not yet met you, how would you describe yourself in 15 words or less?

Oh man, I hate questions like these. No, wait, I know! I’m the guy who loves Savannah Colbert the best! 😉

Q. How would you describe Savannah in 15 words or less?

Beautiful inside and out. Amazing dancer. Best laugh ever. The only girl I’ve ever loved or ever will love.

Q. You and Savannah were friends once, and are more than friends now. Do you wish that you’d never stopped being friends for all those years or are you glad to have had the time apart so that you could have more than friendship now?

I hate that I let my parents tear us apart for years. Even back then I think I kinda knew she was the one. But you know, I was just a kid, so what was I supposed to do?

Q. What is the one thing about Savannah that made you fall in love with her?

You want me to pick just one thing? Nope, can’t do it. It’s a long list, and we’d be here all day if I got going on it. Let’s just say she’s the whole package…her smile, her laugh, the way she makes me feel when I’m around her (and I’m not just talking about the dhampir stuff).

Q. What is your most favorite moment that you spent with Savannah?

Every moment I’m with her. Except for when we were broken up, because all of those sucked big time.

Q. If you could change one thing that happened in your life, what would that be?

Losing Dad.

Q. What is your happily ever after?

Getting to spend the rest of my life with Sav without being on the run from something or someone.

Q. Do you regret what happened to you, or are you glad that Savannah changed you and now you can both share your thoughts, kiss without fear, go public with your relationship?

How can I possibly regret being turned by the only woman I’ll ever love? It’s the best thing that’s happened to me…well, other than that whole part where I need to drink blood. Because that sucks (get it? lol).

Q. If you had to choose between being a vampire or going back to being just one of the descendants, which would you choose and why?

This one’s easy…I’d be a vamp. Being a descendant comes with too many rules and expectations and people watching you all the time and telling you what to do and how to live your life. At least being a vamp I can live my life how I want as long as I don’t reveal the existence of vamps to the human world or attack a descendant. And did I mention being a vamp means I can be with Savannah now without her being afraid to kiss me?
