Book Watch: Ashes on the Waves

Ashes on the Waves

ASHES ON THE WAVES by Mary Lindsey will be released in the U.S. on June 27, 2013 in hardcover and eBook formats.

It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at AMAZON and BARNES & NOBLE.

Published by Philomel, the print edition is 384 pages.

I feel just a little bit guilty for choosing ASHES ON THE WAVES as the book to watch for the week of June 25th because I have read it and I know it’s amazing. And I can’t weigh it equally against the other books releasing that week that I haven’t yet read.

But I don’t feel that guilty. Because even if I hadn’t read it and only read the description, I’m positive I would have chosen to spotlight it. Because the description mentions that it’s dark, it’s “gothic” and it’s based on Poe’s “Annabel Lee.” So while there are some awesome-sounding books releasing, ASHES ON THE WAVES is the book I’m most excited for that week.

As I did get the chance to read it early, I can’t speculate as to what will happen with Liam and Anna. I can’t guess what kinds of trials the Otherworlders will put them through. And I’m not curious about what is “in danger of being destroyed.” Because I have all of those answers and I’m not waiting anxiously for them.

But this book was so awesome. And it’s been awhile since I read it. And I have received a printed ARC, which may be just a little bit different from the version I did read. So, yeah, I’m definitely planning on reading it again before its release.

So, maybe I’m not dying to know what happens. But I am dying to read it again. And maybe the pages won’t fly as fast as they did the first time. But I just know the re-read will be every bit as riveting as the first.

And because of that, because the writing is gorgeous, because the characters are ones I adore, because the story is dark and twisty, ASHES ON THE WAVES just had to be the book to watch this week.

About the Book

Goodreads description:

Liam MacGregor is cursed. Haunted by the wails of fantastical Bean Sidhes and labeled a demon by the villagers of Dòchas, Liam has accepted that things will never get better for him—until a wealthy heiress named Annabel Leighton arrives on the island and Liam’s fate is changed forever.

With Anna, Liam finally finds the happiness he has always been denied; but, the violent, mythical Otherworlders, who inhabit the island and the sea around it, have other plans. They make a wager on the couple’s love, testing its strength through a series of cruel obstacles. But the tragedies draw Liam and Anna even closer. Frustrated, the creatures put the couple through one last trial—and this time it’s not only their love that’s in danger of being destroyed.

Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s chilling poem, “Annabel Lee,” Mary Lindsey creates a frighteningly beautiful gothic novel that glorifies the power of true love.
