Much to my surprise, not one, but three boxes of Lemony Snicket’s THE BAD BEGINNING showed up at my doorstep. How unfortunate for me! Tomorrow is definitely going to be a most #DireDay thanks to Harper Collins Children’s Books and Lemony Snicket.
Most dire indeed.
And I thought the fact that it was Friday the 13th was the only thing unfortunate about tomorrow. How wrong I was.
It will be so dire, in fact, that not only will I be dropping many of these copies of THE BAD BEGINNING at various locations in my area, I will be giving many away here on the blog for a ONE DAY ONLY giveaway.
I was warned that I would be one of the unfortunate bloggers should I accept this book into my home. But clearly I did not heed that warning and now I have 95 copies of THE BAD BEGINNING to pass along to 95 incredibly unfortunate readers. Yes, it seems that one unfortunate box was missing one of these most dire books and so the misfortune has already begun, even before tomorrow’s #DireDay.
If you have not yet had the misfortune of meeting Lemony Snicket or learning about this first book in his A SERIES OF MOST UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, you can read all about Lemony Snicket on his FACEBOOK page, on his WEBSITE or by checking out this most “bothersome book” on GOODREADS.
Feel free to stop back tomorrow for my #DireDay giveaway. But be warned, if the book’s description is accurate – and I believe it to be most accurate – then the book you will be entering to win will be “extremely unpleasant.”
And be sure to keep watch for the #DireDay tweets on TWITTER tomorrow, because some of these pitiful books may be falling in your area.
A Most Bothersome Book
I’m sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news, continuing on through the entire story, disaster lurks at their heels. One might say they are magnets for misfortune.
In this short book alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, and cold porridge for breakfast.
It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy, if you prefer that sort of thing.
With all due respect,
A Most Unfortunate Video
