Book Watch: Releasing This Week #53

Below are the YA books coming out this week that I am spotlighting for my “Book Watch: Releasing This Week” post.

These are books for the week of January 3rd-January 9th that I have pre-ordered.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 384 pages.

It is the first book in a new series of the same name by author Veronica Rossi.

Under the Never Sky is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

I received an ARC of this book thanks to Jaime from Two Chicks on Books who grabbed one for me at a conference she attended. I haven’t yet had a chance to read it, but I will definitely be reading it as it is one of my 2012 DAC books. I’m not sure whether I’ll be reading the ARC or the eBook I pre-ordered, but I’ve heard the book is amazing and I can’t wait.

The title of this book is what first drew me to it. And after checking out the description it became one of those books I was dying to read. The futuristic world in Under the Never Sky sounds intense. With “violent energy storms” and predators and cannibals (eek!), it’s no wonder Aria spends time in virtual environments called Realms.

I can’t wait to see what happens when Aria meets Outsider Perry and has to rely on him to return to her city, Reverie, from the dangerous outside world of The Death Shop. That name alone makes me want to find out more.

And I can’t wait to meet Perry who already sounds awesome with his “exceptional abilities.” The world reminds me a little bit of Mad Max and I’m hoping I can finally read it this month because it’s been calling to me from my book tower.

Charmfall by Chloe Neill will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by NAL Trade, the print edition is 288 pages.

Charmfall is the third book in the Dark Elite series by author Chloe Neill

I am so excited this book is finally coming out. I discovered this series before I started blogging and I was immediately hooked. I have been waiting for this third book to come out for what feels like forever.

I am thinking of trying to sneak it in as a read this week even if I don’t end up reviewing it immediately, because I just know it will be a one-sit-read. I want to see what’s in store for Lily Parker. Things at St. Sophia’s haven’t been easy and from what is revealed in the description, they’re not going to get any easier.

Apparently everyone has lost their ability to use magic. Which is not great timing as a Reaper arrives at the school. And without magic, Lily won’t be able to protect anyone.

To get her magic back she decides it’s worth risking going “behind enemy lines,” which has me even more worried about how things will end.

So, waiting another month to read this might not be an option for me. But maybe I can wait until next week. We’ll see….

Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available online to pre-order in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Philomel, the print edition is 416 pages.

Bloodrose is the third book in the Nightshade series by author Andrea Cremer.

I had a copy of Bloodrose on loan from Mindy of Magical Urban Fantasy Reads, but I was not able to get to it before release. I have the eBook pre-ordered, so I’ll be returning that copy to her and reading the finished copy.

I probably never should have borrowed the ARC as I tend to have issues reading the final books in series and I am terrified of just how things will end in this one. I am not certain that things will end happily. I’m not sure what will happen with Calla, Ren and Shay or if it will end as I hope it will. (I am Team Ren.)

The description promises “twists and turns” and an “edge of your seat” read and I am both excited and nervous to find out how the final battle will be resolved. But I will be reading it in February, along with my other end-of-series books I’ve been putting off for awhile.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in hardcover, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Feiwel & Friends, an imprint of Macmillan, the print edition is 400 pages.

It is the first book in the Lunar Chronicles by author Marissa Meyer.

Cinder is one of the books that can be chosen for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge hosted by Kristi at TheStorySiren.com.

I am so excited about this book’s release. I had this on pre-order for awhile, even though I was slightly skeptical when I first saw the cover and read the description. I am not a huge fan of science fiction, nor am I an immediate fan of fairytale retellings. But I wanted to give this a chance.

It was amazing. I don’t want to talk about it too much as I will have my review up tomorrow or the next day. But the fairytale aspect worked perfectly with the futuristic setting.

Cinder is a cyborg and a mechanic who lives in New Beijing in a future that has seen four world wars. And one in which a plague is ravaging the population around the globe.

Just like in the fairytale there is an evil stepmother, a not so great stepsister and a handsome Prince. But there are many more dangers in this story, the Prince has much more to worry about than finding a wife and there are so many more interesting characters in this first book in the series.

All I will say is that for fans of SciFi there is an intergalactic aspect and there are androids and cyborgs. But for those who aren’t captivated by those things, there is a handsome prince, a love story, danger, lovable characters and an easy to get caught up in story that is unputdownable.

Yeah, I loved this book. Perfect way to start the new year.

Dreaming Awake by Gwen Hayes will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by NAL Trade, the print edition is 336 pages.

Dreaming Awake is the second book in the Falling Under series by author Gwen Hayes.

I fell in love with the cover for Falling Under last year when it was released and bought it immediately. Although it’s still on my TBR pile, I just had to pre-order this second book in the series.

I still have not had the chance to meet Theia Alderson or Haden, but I really want to. I want to find out what Haden is and why she met him first in her dreams. And I am dying to find out if she sacrificed her soul to be with him.

But I decided I didn’t want to risk spoilers, so I haven’t taken a peek at the Goodreads description and don’t know what’s in store for Theia in this sequel. It is linked in the book cover image above for those who have read book one.

I am hoping to get caught up on this series some time this spring.

Don’t Breathe a Word by Holly Cupala will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in paperback and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by HarperTeen, the print edition is 320 pages.

I had an ARC of Don’t Breathe a Word this past fall, but passed it along because I knew I wouldn’t get a chance to read it. I did pre-order it when I gave it away and it will be downloading to my eReader tomorrow.

I was intrigued when the cover was revealed in pieces on several blogs. And I have heard such amazing things about this author and book that I just had to add it to my TBR. It sounds like a different story from ones I usually read and I can’t wait to dive in.

From the description, Don’t Breathe a Word seems like it will be a “powerful” book. Stories with real issues like abuse and survival and finding one’s strength can be deeply affecting.

Chances are this won’t be an easy read, but one that is important. And I can’t wait to meet Joy Delamere and take the journey with her as she tries to get away from her family and from the dangerous and abusive Asher.

Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Simon Pulse, a division of Simon & Schuster, the print edition is 384 pages.

I own both of Sarah Ockler’s other books, though I only read half of Twenty Boy Summer. I started blogging and never got a chance to finish it. But I was a fan of what I’d read and so I just had to pre-order this book.

This book definitely sounds bittersweet. I’m curious to see if Hudson is able to escape her small town to pursue her dream of become a skater rather than getting stuck waiting tables. I hope she does make it out.

I love that her name is Hudson and I think I’m going to enjoy reading about the love triangle with the two cute hockey players. I hope this will have a hopeful, if not happy, ending. And I think this will be a great spring read.

Switched by Amanda Hocking will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in paperback, audio and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order online in all formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by St. Martin’s Press, a division of Macmillan, the print edition is 336 pages.

Switched is the first book in the Trylle series by author Amanda Hocking. Torn, the second book in the series is scheduled for release on February 28, 2012 and Ascend, the third book, is scheduled for release on April 24, 2012.

***

I am so super thrilled that Amanda Hocking’s book Switched is going to be on shelves tomorrow. I have this pre-ordered in print and in eBook format even though I have read the original version that the author self-published.

I never thought I’d ever want to read a book about trolls, but Amanda Hocking totally changed my mind. I love Wendy Everly and the Trylle society the author created. I will definitely be reading this version of the series and I can’t wait to see what changes there are.

I won’t say too much, as I already read the entire series, but Wendy is a changeling. She only discovers this fact when Finn Holmes comes to take her back to the Trylle. And while she isn’t thrilled about returning with him, she never really fit in where she was. Wendy’s return is the start of an adventure that will test her strength and her commitment to her people and her responsibilities.

This is an exciting and unique series with a strong heroine who has some difficult and heartbreaking choices to make in world that is filled with danger.

Unraveling Isobel by Eileen Cook will be released in the U.S. on January 3, 2012 in hardcover and eBook formats. It is currently available to pre-order in both formats at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Published by Simon Pulse, a division of Simon & Schuster, the print edition is 304 pages.

***

I first saw this book on Simon & Schuster’s Galley Grab newsletter. While I haven’t had a chance to read it, I did end up pre-ordering it for my eReader because of Lisa McMann’s blurb saying that it is: “Thrilling and creepy, super sexy, and so very hilarious.”

These are all qualities I love in books.

According to the description, everything seems to be going wrong for Isobel. Her mom gets remarried and they are forced to move, leaving behind her friends. Her stepfather is creepy and their new home is a gothic mansion.

And either she is going crazy or seeing ghosts. Neither of which is ideal.

I really can’t wait to read this and find out. I hope to add it to the pile next month.

Wow! I had no idea that 2012 would start off with such an awesome selection of new reads. I mean, I knew there were a few, but I didn’t realize that I’d have nine books pre-ordered. That’s a LOT of reading. Especially since I’ve only read one of the books releasing – Cinder. All the rest go on my TBR pile.

I had also read Switched, but not the version by St. Martin’s, and so I will be reading that to see just what has been changed. But so many of these are books that I’m just dying to read.

I am hoping to catch up on some of these during my February month of “me” reads, but it is already a super crowded month, so we’ll see. But I will definitely be adding Charmfall to that month’s reads if I don’t get to it sooner.

All I can say that if the rest of the year has as many awesome releases as are coming out this week, it’s going to be a great year.

As always, I would love to hear what you’re hoping to add to your collection this week!

And if you have any great suggestions of “must read” books to buy that are releasing this week, please let me know!
